The best travel investment is not always the upgrade. Sometimes it is the sleep mask in the carry-on.

Sometimes the most luxurious thing you can do on a trip is actually rest.

Rest is the point. Not the scenery. Not the room. Not the photo. The version of you that shows up rested on day three of the trip is the version that actually remembers it.

Let’s start with the record-breaker herself.

First World Hotel has 7,351 rooms, making it one of the largest hotels in the world by room count. It is part of Resorts World Genting, a mountain resort perched in Malaysia’s Genting Highlands.

And this is not a “hotel with a few things nearby” situation.

First World Hotel sits in the middle of the action, with access to First World Plaza, SkyAvenue, Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, dining, shopping, entertainment, and transportation links through the resort.

The vibe is colorful. Busy. High-energy.

Think bright towers. Massive lobbies. Long corridors. Families moving toward the theme park. Tour groups checking in. Travelers grabbing a quick bite before heading back out.

It is less about intimate boutique service and more about convenience at an almost comical scale.

You can sleep here, eat here, shop here, play here, and spend an entire day indoors if the mountain weather decides to act up.

That altitude matters, too. Genting Highlands gives the resort a cooler mountain feel than Malaysia’s coastal cities. After the heat and humidity of Kuala Lumpur, the change can feel refreshing.

Ambassador City Jomtien sits along Jomtien Beach near Pattaya. The property spans more than 40 acres and includes over 4,000 guest rooms and suites across five buildings.

That is not a hotel campus.

That is a small hospitality ecosystem.

The five wings include Ocean Wing, Garden Wing, Inn Wing, Marina Tower Wing, and Ambassador Tower Wing. Different buildings. Different room categories. Different moods.

The resort also offers a private beach, restaurants, tennis courts, a fitness center, squash, convention facilities, and one of the largest outdoor swimming pools in Thailand.

Older travel references frequently describe the pool as one of the largest in Asia. The exact superlative has shifted across sources, but the visual is still the same: a huge resort pool surrounded by palms, towers, and plenty of room to claim your vacation personality.

Pool lounger person? Beach walk person? Tennis before breakfast person? You have options.

Ambassador City Jomtien is particularly built for groups. Conferences. Family holidays. Large tour parties. Events with hundreds or thousands of people.

The Sheraton Grand Macao was historically known for approximately 4,001 rooms and suites, making it one of the largest hotels in Macau and one of the biggest Sheraton properties ever built.

But here is where the travel tea gets interesting.

The former Sheraton towers were renovated and rebranded as Londoner Grand, A Luxury Collection Hotel, with the total inventory reduced to approximately 2,405 rooms and suites. Many rooms were converted into larger suites.

So the Sheraton name belongs to the property’s mega-hotel era. The current experience is more elevated and suite-focused.

Either way, the scale is still impressive.

This is Cotai resort living. Shopping malls. Restaurants. Entertainment. Convention facilities. Casino access. Elaborate interiors. Indoor walkways that let you move through the resort district without immediately meeting the weather outside.

It is the kind of place where “we’ll just walk over there” can turn into a twenty-minute architectural expedition.

Macau itself is already a destination with layers: Portuguese-influenced streets, historic neighborhoods, major entertainment venues, Cantonese cuisine, and a skyline built for spectacle. Staying in Cotai gives you the polished mega-resort version of the city.

4. Marina Bay Sands , Singapore

Marina Bay Sands is not the largest hotel on this list by room count.

It may be the most instantly recognizable.

Three towers. One dramatic SkyPark. A rooftop infinity pool that appears to float above Singapore’s skyline.

The hotel has been listed with thousands of rooms and suites across its three towers, while the broader integrated resort includes shopping, dining, entertainment, convention facilities, and the casino.

Tuesday morning started with a live class.

Claude 101, taught to a room full of women who came in convinced AI was for somebody else. Somebody more technical. Somebody with more time. Somebody who already had it figured out.

By the end of the hour, most of them had built their first real prompt.

Wednesday, the recap got clipped and posted. Thursday, the onboarding piece went out, the one about building a welcome system that greets a client before doubt has time to set in. Two AI wins in one week. On paper, that looked like the good kind of momentum.

Underneath it, the same question from Tuesday’s burnout piece was still sitting there, unanswered.

The system was never really about the tasks

Somewhere in building out that onboarding system, a pattern showed up that had nothing to do with Zapier or intake forms.

Every task handed to a system was a task that stopped requiring a body to be present for it. Not just time. Presence. The kind of attention that gets spent whether or not anybody notices it leaving.

That is the part burnout actually costs. Not hours. Presence.

The automation was supposed to save time. What it actually protected was the version of the week that still had something left in it by Friday.

Teaching the class and living the lesson in the same week

Standing in front of that Claude 101 class Tuesday, watching somebody build a working prompt for the first time, there was a version of this whole week visible from the front of the room.

A room full of women asking the same underlying question the burnout piece asked. Not “how do I use this tool.” Something closer to, “can I actually build a life around this business without it costing me everything else.”

The honest answer, taught in the room and relearned outside of it. The tool is not the fix. The tool just clears enough space to ask better questions.

What actually changed

Rest stopped being something scheduled for after the launch, the class, the newsletter, the next thing on the calendar. It became part of what the system was built to protect, not a reward for surviving the system.

The class got taught rested instead of running on fumes. The onboarding piece got written from a place that had actually slept, not from the version of this business that treats exhaustion as proof of commitment.

That is the whole shift. Not doing less. Building enough underneath the business that doing the work does not require abandoning the person doing it.

The thread this week was really pulling on

Tuesday named the cost of a life built around urgency. Thursday built a system meant to soften exactly that. Saturday is where those two things finally admit they were always the same conversation.

The Empire runs on seven lanes because that is honestly who this business is. The systems exist so carrying all seven does not require disappearing inside any of them.

Still figuring out where the edges of that actually are. Still catching moments where old urgency creeps back in like it never left.

But the class got taught rested this week. The system is running. And the version of this business that used to prove its worth through exhaustion is slowly getting replaced by one that does not have to.

Let’s be honest for a second. You’ve worked hard to land that dream client. You’ve had the discovery call, you’ve felt the alignment, and they’ve finally said “yes.” But then, the dread sets in. You realize you now have to manually send the contract, chase the invoice, dig through your notes to create a welcome guide, and set up a new project folder for the tenth time this month.

Instead of celebrating the win, you’re drowning in “administrative drag.”

Most entrepreneurs treat onboarding like a frantic game of catch-up. You are reacting to the client rather than leading them. To fix this, we have to move through what I call the AI Skill Suite framework: Capture, Clarify, Build, and Launch.

Before you touch a single tool, you need to Clarify what a perfect experience looks like. What do you need from them? What do they need from you to feel safe and excited? Once we have that, we can use AI to Build the systems that do the heavy lifting for you.

Step 1: Mapping the Journey (The “Clarify” Phase)

The biggest mistake you can make is “automating chaos.” If your manual process is broken, automation just breaks it faster.

Take a notebook: I prefer something with a little weight and texture, something that makes the act of planning feel intentional: and map out every touchpoint from the moment the invoice is paid.

Your typical journey might look like this:

1. Trigger: Payment received.

2. Action: Contract sent and signed.

3. Action: Welcome email with a “Get Started” link.

4. Action: Intake form to collect brand assets or data.

5. Action: Project portal setup (Slack, Notion, or HoneyBook).

6. Action: Kickoff call scheduled.

AI excels at the connective tissue between these steps. Instead of you manually moving data, we’re going to build a “digital bridge” using tools like Zapier or Make.

Step 2: The “Instant Win” Welcome

The moment a client pays, their dopamine levels are high. They are excited! If they wait 24 hours to hear from you, that excitement turns into “buyer’s remorse.”

The Automation: Set up a trigger in your CRM (like Dubsado or HoneyBook) or your payment processor (Stripe) that talks to ChatGPT via Zapier.

The AI Twist: Instead of a generic “Thanks for your payment” email, use an AI agent to draft a Personalized Welcome Note. By feeding the AI the notes from your discovery call (which you can transcribe using tools like Otter.ai or Descript), the AI can reference their specific goals in the welcome email.

“Hi Sarah, I’m so excited to start working on your brand’s expansion into the luxury market. Based on our chat about your 2026 goals, I’ve already started outlining a strategy for your new launch...”

This level of detail makes the client feel seen, but it took you zero minutes to write.

Step 3: AI-Powered Intake and Data Collection

We’ve all been there: chasing a client for their logo files, their hex codes, or their login credentials for three weeks. It’s exhausting.

Use an “intelligent” form for your intake. Instead of a static PDF, use a tool like Typeform or Fillout that uses conditional logic. If a client selects “Package A,” the form only asks questions relevant to that package.

How AI makes this better:

You can use AI to review the intake form submissions automatically. An AI agent can scan the answers and flag if something is missing or inconsistent. For example, if a client says their budget is $5,000 but their goals require a $20,000 investment, the AI can “flag” this for you to address before the kickoff call.

This is the “technical precision” we teach at The Empire. It’s about building smarter systems that protect your time and your peace.

Step 4: Centralizing the Hub (The “Empire Vault” Strategy)

Clients don’t want to dig through their inbox for links. They want a sanctuary.

I recommend creating a dedicated Client Portal. This could be a streamlined Notion page or a folder in your Empire Vault.

The Automation: When the intake form is submitted, have Zapier automatically create a new folder in Google Drive, a new project in Asana, and a personalized Notion dashboard.

Inside that dashboard, the AI can pre-populate a “90-Day Roadmap” based on the service package they purchased. You’re not starting from a blank page; you’re starting with a high-level draft that you just need to polish.

Step 5: Keeping the Human Connection (The Kickoff)

Automation is not about removing the human; it’s about freeing the human to do what only they can do.

In my AI Consulting work, I tell my clients: Automate the logistics, humanize the strategy.

Your AI system should handle the scheduling of the kickoff call and send out the pre-call brief. This brief, generated by AI from the client’s intake data, tells you exactly what they are worried about, what they are excited about, and what you need to cover.

You walk into that call feeling prepared, calm, and visionary, rather than frazzled and asking “So, what was your business name again?”

There is a version of burnout we know how to explain.

You are tired. You have been doing too much. You need a few days off.

So you close the laptop. Sleep in. Drink some water. Stop checking your email. Maybe take a weekend away.

And you expect to come back feeling like yourself again.

But what happens when you do all of that and you still do not feel better?

What happens when you finally have time to sleep, but your body will not settle down?

When your back hurts for no obvious reason. Your patience is gone. Your chest feels tight. One simple request feels like somebody has added another ten pounds to what you were already carrying.

Then you open the laptop.

And there is nothing.

No excitement.

No ideas rushing in.

Not even enough energy to be annoyed about it.

Just nothing.

That is usually when the fear starts.

What if I cannot do this anymore?

What if I lost whatever made me good at this?

What if the part of me that knew how to make something out of nothing is gone?

That is the part of creative burnout we do not talk about enough.

Because burnout does not always feel like being tired of your job.

Sometimes it feels like you have disappeared inside the life you worked so hard to build.

Sometimes your body knows before you do

A lot of us are very good at overriding ourselves.

We keep going because the deadline is real.

Because the client already paid.

Because people are waiting.

Because the launch date is on the calendar.

Because this is our business and there is nobody else coming to handle it.

So we tell ourselves we are fine long after our bodies have started disagreeing.

Burnout and prolonged stress can show up physically. You might have trouble sleeping even though you are exhausted. You might notice headaches, muscle tension, stomach problems, changes in appetite, trouble concentrating, or a constant feeling that your body is bracing for something.

You may feel tired after a full night of sleep.

You may notice your heart racing when nothing particularly urgent is happening.

You may feel like you cannot fully come down from the day.

That does not mean every symptom is burnout.

Physical symptoms can have many causes, and burnout itself is not a medical diagnosis. Chest pain, severe sleep problems, panic attacks, or symptoms that scare you deserve medical attention, not a self-diagnosis from the internet.

But I do think we have to get better at listening before our bodies are forced to yell.

Sometimes your body is not getting in the way of the work.

Sometimes it is telling you that the way you have been working is no longer sustainable.

Burnout does not always look like sadness

Burnout can look like crying in the bathroom.

But it can also look like snapping at someone you love because they asked one harmless question at the wrong time.

It can look like staring at a text for three days because you cannot figure out how to answer it.

It can look like avoiding people you genuinely like because conversation suddenly feels like another responsibility.

It can even look like being strangely calm about things that used to matter to you.

Not peaceful.

Just empty.

You stop caring about the post.

The launch.

The numbers.

The comments.

The opportunity you would have been thrilled about six months ago.

And then, because apparently exhaustion was not enough, guilt joins the conversation.

You tell yourself other people have more on their plates.

You remind yourself that this is what you wanted.

You think about all the times you prayed for the business, the audience, the opportunities, the freedom.

And now that some version of it is here, you cannot understand why you are not happier.

But guilt does not make exhaustion productive.

It just gives you one more thing to carry.

A weekend off cannot fix a life built around urgency

This is one of the hardest things to accept.

Rest matters.

A vacation can help.

Logging off can help.

Sleep can help.

But none of those things automatically change the conditions that exhausted you in the first place.

You can take a beautiful trip and come home to the exact same workload.

You can delete Instagram for seven days and return with the same belief that disappearing from the internet will make people forget you.

You can sleep all weekend and wake up Monday morning to a business that still requires you to make every decision.

You can take a month away and still come back afraid that slowing down means falling behind.

That is why recovery can be frustrating.

We expect rest to make us capable of returning to the exact same life.

Sometimes the life is part of the problem.

Maybe the workload has to change.

Maybe the offer has to change.

Maybe you need fewer clients.

Maybe every idea cannot become content.

Maybe the business model you built when you had more energy does not fit the person you are now.

Maybe you have been calling something freedom because you own it, even though it requires more from you than the job you wanted freedom from.

Those are harder questions than, “Do I need a vacation?”

But they are usually more useful ones.

When creativity becomes proof of who you are

Creative burnout gets complicated when creativity is not simply something you do.

It is part of how you know yourself.

You are the writer.

The designer.

The photographer.

The strategist.

The builder.

The one people call when an idea needs to become something real.

And when that ability suddenly feels inaccessible, it can mess with more than your productivity.

Because if you have spent years using what you create as evidence that you are talented, valuable, interesting, capable, or worthy of being seen, what happens when you cannot create?

Who are you when there is nothing to post?

Who are you when you do not have another idea?

Who are you when the thing that used to energize you suddenly feels like work?

That is why “just take a break” can feel terrifying.

The break is not only from the task.

It can feel like a break from yourself.

But maybe creativity was never supposed to carry the entire weight of your identity.

Maybe every good idea does not need to become a product.

Maybe every meaningful experience does not need to become a lesson for your audience.

Maybe you are allowed to enjoy something without immediately asking whether it can be monetized, packaged, posted, taught, or sold.

Your creativity can belong to you, too.

Being the person who always handles it gets lonely

Burnout can be especially isolating when everybody knows you as the capable one.

You find the answer.

Remember the deadline.

Fix the mistake.

Figure it out.

Make the call.

Keep things moving.

Eventually, people start assuming that is simply who you are.

And because you have always found a way, they may not notice when finding a way starts costing you too much.

You may not tell them either.

Maybe you do not want clients questioning whether you can handle the work.

Maybe you do not want family members giving you advice that ignores the reality of your finances.

Maybe you do not want to admit that answering an email feels impossible when you used to run an entire launch while barely sleeping.

Maybe you do not even know how to explain what is happening.

You just know you are tired in a way sleep has not fixed.

But trying to recover alone can make everything heavier.

Support does not have to mean announcing your breakdown to everybody you know.

Sometimes it is one honest conversation.

One doctor’s appointment.

One therapist.

One friend who can hear what you are saying without immediately turning it into a five-step plan.

One collaborator who takes something completely off your plate instead of asking you to explain how to help.

The right kind of support should reduce what you are carrying.

It should not become another thing you have to manage well.

You may not create the same way after burnout

This part can feel like a loss.

Maybe you used to be able to work all night and still function the next morning.

Maybe urgency made you feel alive.

Maybe you could turn around ideas quickly, launch constantly, post daily, answer everybody, and somehow keep all the plates spinning.

And maybe now you cannot.

Or you simply do not want to.

You may need more time between the idea and the execution.

You may need longer deadlines.

You may need fewer projects.

You may stop romanticizing exhaustion.

You may become much less impressed by opportunities that come with unnecessary chaos attached.

You may stop treating every request as urgent simply because somebody else wants an answer quickly.

That can feel like losing your edge.

But it can also be discernment.

You start noticing the difference between excitement and adrenaline.

You notice which opportunities grow your business and which ones only grow your workload.

You stop calling fear a deadline.

You stop acting like rest is something you earn after the work has taken everything else.

Your creativity may become less available on command.

But maybe it becomes more honest.

More intentional.

More yours.

Stepping back does not always mean you are quitting

Sometimes protecting yourself looks unimpressive from the outside.

You cancel the thing.

Move the date.

Close enrollment.

Take fewer clients.

Stop posting every day.

Pause the membership.

Say no to something you would have forced yourself to say yes to before.

People may interpret that however they want.

But there is a difference between:

“I do not want this anymore.”

and

“I do not want to keep doing this in a way that harms me.”

Those are not the same decision.

You are allowed to protect the person creating the work.

You are allowed to stop before the damage becomes more expensive.

You are allowed to disappoint an expectation that was built around a version of you who no longer exists.

Maybe success needs a new definition

Burnout has a way of making old measures of success feel less impressive.

More money.

More launches.

More clients.

More subscribers.

More people knowing your name.

More opportunities.

More access to you.

Eventually, you have to ask whether “more” is actually getting you closer to the life you wanted.

Can I maintain this without living in constant urgency?

Does this income require me to become somebody I do not enjoy being?

Does this opportunity respect my actual capacity?

Can I make good work without turning my whole life into inventory?

Do I still recognize myself inside the thing I built?

Those questions matter.

Because the goal was never supposed to be building a business so successful that there was no life left around it.

The work matters.

So does the person doing it.

Burnout is not proof that you were never meant to create.

It may be evidence that the version of your creative life you built is charging more than you are willing to keep paying.

Maybe the answer is fewer emergencies disguised as opportunities.

Maybe it is a business with more margin.

Maybe it is a life where rest happens before your body forces the issue.

Maybe creativity gets to be part of your life without becoming the price you pay to have one.

You do not have to get back to the old version of yourself.

Maybe the better question is:

What would you build now that you know what abandoning yourself costs?

A necessary health note

Burnout can overlap with anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, chronic pain, and other physical or mental health conditions. It is not safe to assume that persistent or frightening symptoms are caused by stress alone.

If you are experiencing panic attacks, persistent insomnia, chest pain, severe depression, thoughts of harming yourself, or symptoms that interfere with daily life, contact a qualified healthcare professional.

In the United States, you can call or text 988 for immediate crisis support. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

And somehow, the exact same thing was happening in my business.

This week made me realize that overbuilding doesn’t always look like perfectionism. Sometimes it looks like productivity.

You tell yourself you’re researching. Preparing. Improving the system. Comparing your options. Adding one more feature. Taking one more class.

Meanwhile, the trip isn’t booked, the product isn’t launched, and the thing you’ve been “working on” still hasn’t met the real world.

Being intentional doesn’t mean planning every possible detail. Building something valuable doesn’t mean giving it every possible feature. And being prepared doesn’t mean waiting until uncertainty disappears.

Sometimes you know enough to take the next step.

Take it.

Then curate from there.

Five tabs open. Four destinations compared. Still no trip booked.

That was supposed to be research. Really, it was the same thing that almost killed the video pipeline, refusing to ship anything less than perfect.

This week’s newsletter covered two threads that looked unrelated on the surface. Tuesday was about choosing a trip based on the season that actually fits you instead of the one everybody defaults to. Thursday was about the AI system built to keep seven content lanes from turning into nine separate jobs. Different topics. Same problem hiding underneath both.

Overbuilding.

The pipeline didn’t break because the idea was wrong. It broke because there was a version in my head that had to be flawless before it was allowed to launch. Every fix uncovered another thing that could be better, which meant another reason to keep building instead of shipping.

Turns out that’s exactly what I’ve been doing to my own trips too.

Somewhere between a decade of curating other people’s travel and running an AI business on top of it, booking something for myself quietly turned into a project. Compare five destinations. Read every review twice. Build the perfect itinerary before committing to a single date. Call it being thorough when really it’s the same refusal to ship the rough version, just wearing a different outfit.

A rough version of a trip is just a booked flight and somewhere to sleep. Everything else figures itself out along the way. Try telling that to the woman who curates other people’s trips for a living, though. She has opinions about everything, including her own vacation.

What finally shifted it wasn’t some big epiphany. It was noticing the same three things that got the pipeline out the door were true here too. Trust myself enough to book something before it’s perfect. Be patient with the parts that aren’t planned yet instead of needing it all solved upfront. And admit that the version of me who just goes is exactly who needed this trip, not the version still comparing tabs.

So the flight got booked before the itinerary existed. No spreadsheet. No five-tab comparison. Just a date that worked and a place worth seeing, picked because it sounded good, not because it tested well against four other options.

That’s the same shift Tuesday’s piece was really about, even dressed up as a seasonal travel tip. Choosing based on how you want to feel instead of defaulting to whatever everyone else is doing. Thursday’s piece was the same lesson in a different outfit, shipping the system that works instead of the one that’s theoretically perfect.

Building The Empire across seven lanes means everything eventually touches everything else. Whatever gets a piece of software out the door is usually the same thing that gets me on a plane.

Still don’t have this fully figured out. There’s probably a version of this very essay that got overbuilt before it was finally allowed to be done.

But the flight is booked. The pipeline is running. And the woman who used to need everything perfect before committing is learning, slowly, that ready is a decision, not a feeling.

That math used to break me every single week.

Record something once, sure. Then reformat it for Substack, clip it for LinkedIn, chop it down for YouTube, pull a caption for Lemon8, and somehow still have energy left to run the actual business the content was supposed to be about.

Something had to give. This time it wasn’t going to be my rest, and it wasn’t going to be the content either. So the video pipeline got built.

It’s an AI system that takes one piece of raw content and does the heavy lifting of turning it into everything else it needs to become. The drafts. The captions. The formats. The whole trail down the content pyramid, without me babysitting every single step of it.

Typed out like that, it sounds simple. Building it was not simple.

There were versions that broke. Versions that technically worked but still took longer than just doing it by hand. A stretch where it felt easier to quit and go back to recording, posting, recording, posting, and hoping the whole thing didn’t collapse on a week the calendar got tight.

But here’s what kept me at it. Every time the pipeline got a little better, a little more of my week came back to me. Not in some dramatic “I got my life back” way. Just quietly. An hour here. An afternoon there. Room to actually think instead of just produce.

And somewhere in the middle of all that troubleshooting, three things became true that had nothing to do with the tech at all.

Trust myself. If the first version breaks, that doesn’t mean the idea was wrong, it means the build isn’t finished yet.

Be patient. A system worth having doesn’t arrive on the first try, and rushing it just means rebuilding it twice.

Someone needs what I have. Not the finished pipeline itself necessarily, but the version of me who figured out how to stop doing everything the hard way.

That last one is the one that surprised me. Building something for myself first was supposed to be the private, boring, behind the scenes part. Instead it became proof that the problem I was solving for me wasn’t just mine.

The AI Shoppe runs on seven lanes because that’s honestly who I am, not because a content calendar told me to be multidimensional. The pipeline is what makes carrying all seven sustainable instead of exhausting.

It’s not finished. It’s probably never going to be finished, because the second it stops needing improvement is probably the second I stop growing.

But it works. It gets content out the door on weeks it would have otherwise sat in my camera roll dying a slow death. And it taught me something no course ever could, that the tool you build to save yourself is usually the same tool somebody else has been waiting on.

If you’ve been sitting on a system that only exists in your head right now, what’s actually stopping you from building the rough version this week?

Let me say something that might get me kicked out of the summer vacation group chat.

Summer is not automatically the best time to travel.

I know. The kids are out of school. Everybody is posting beach pictures. Your group chat suddenly remembers that passports exist. It feels like the obvious time to go somewhere.

But summer also comes with packed airports, crowded attractions, heat that can make sightseeing feel like a personal attack, and prices that will have you staring at your cart wondering if you really need a vacation after all.

Meanwhile, fall and winter are sitting right there.

Depending on where you’re going, traveling later in the year can give you better weather, fewer crowds, seasonal experiences you completely miss in summer, and sometimes better value for your money.

And for the traveler who wants the trip to actually feel good, not just look good on Instagram, that matters.

What Makes Fall and Winter Travel So Good?

First, let’s clear something up.

Late-year travel does not mean spending November freezing somewhere in a parka.

While one part of the world is pulling out winter coats, another is entering warm weather. Even in destinations where temperatures are dropping, the change in season can completely change the experience.

The real advantage is timing your trip around the destination instead of automatically timing it around summer.

For many destinations, September and October fall within what’s known as shoulder season, the period between peak season and the true off-season. Depending on the destination, that can mean pleasant weather, lighter crowds, and better value.

The important part is that we’re not chasing cheap.

We’re chasing value.

And those are not always the same thing.

1. You May Get More Trip for Your Money

Let’s start with the obvious one.

Travel is expensive.

But traveling outside peak season can sometimes mean less competition for the same hotel rooms, tours, restaurant reservations, and experiences.

Maybe the hotel category you wanted is finally within budget.

Maybe you can upgrade the room.

Maybe you can afford the private food tour instead of skipping it.

Maybe your money goes toward an experience you’ll remember instead of paying peak-season pricing just because everybody else decided July was the only month available on the calendar.

That’s how I want you thinking about travel.

Not: “How cheap can I make this?”

But: “How much experience can I get from the money I’m already comfortable spending?”

And remember, fall does not automatically mean cheap. Demand, holidays, festivals, flight availability, and the destination itself all affect pricing.

The goal is to find the season when your destination gives you the experience and value you’re looking for.

2. Fewer Crowds Can Completely Change a Destination

Listen.

Some places are beautiful in summer.

They’re also beautiful without somebody’s entire family standing in front of you.

One of my favorite things about traveling outside peak season is simply having more room to experience where you are.

That can mean:

• shorter lines at major attractions

• easier restaurant reservations

• calmer museums and historical sites

• more relaxed streets and public spaces

• fewer strangers accidentally starring in every picture you take

And that last one matters. I’m sorry. 😂

For solo travelers and women who prefer intentional small-group travel, that breathing room can change the whole mood of a trip.

You’re not racing through the destination trying to beat crowds.

You’re actually in it.

Having coffee without watching the clock.

Sitting through another glass of wine because nobody is rushing you.

That’s the kind of travel I want more of.

3. The Weather Might Actually Be Better

Baby, sightseeing in extreme heat is not luxurious.

I don’t care how expensive the hotel was.

If I’m sweating through my clothes while standing in a two-hour line, we need to reevaluate some decisions.

This is one reason fall travel has become increasingly attractive, especially in destinations where summer temperatures can make full sightseeing days exhausting. Recent travel-industry reporting has also noted growing September and October demand from travelers looking to avoid peak summer heat and crowds.

Depending on the destination, fall can give you comfortable walking weather without sacrificing the experiences you actually came for.

Winter creates another opportunity entirely.

Instead of escaping your hometown for another hot place in July, why not save that tropical getaway for January or February when you’re genuinely tired of looking at gray skies?

Suddenly that Caribbean water hits a little differently.

4. You Get Experiences Summer Travelers Completely Miss

This is where people mess up.

They think traveling outside summer means getting some watered-down version of the destination.

Sometimes you’re actually getting a completely different version.

Fall can bring:

• wine harvests

• food festivals

• seasonal menus

• harvest markets

• cultural celebrations

Winter can bring:

• Christmas markets

• ski destinations

• northern lights experiences

• tropical escapes

• cozy mountain stays

• holiday cruises

You aren’t necessarily missing the “real” destination by traveling later.

You may be seeing a side of it summer travelers never experience.

And THAT is the kind of travel I love.

I don’t just want to say I went somewhere.

Friend, I want the trip to have a personality.

5. A Late-Year Trip Hits Different

By September, the year has been year-ing.

You’ve worked.

You’ve handled everybody’s emergencies.

You’ve attended birthdays, weddings, graduations, meetings, appointments, and whatever else life decided belonged on your calendar.

Then suddenly it’s October and we’re discussing Thanksgiving like January wasn’t twelve minutes ago.

That’s why I love the idea of having something waiting for you toward the end of the year.

And it doesn’t need to be some huge two-week international production.

It could be:

• four nights somewhere warm

• a cruise

• a mountain cabin

• a solo food trip

• a small-group getaway

• a few quiet days somewhere you’ve never been

Sometimes you don’t need another productivity system.

You need to go somewhere.

So, Is Fall Actually Cheaper for Travel?

Sometimes, but not always. Fall can offer better pricing in destinations entering shoulder season, but airfare and hotel rates still depend on demand, events, holidays, and your exact travel dates.

That’s why I don’t want you automatically assuming October equals cheap.

Compare dates.

Look at the destination’s actual seasons.

And don’t forget that Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, school breaks, festivals, and major events can send prices right back up.

The better question is:

When does this particular destination offer the best combination of weather, crowds, experiences, and price for me?

Is Winter a Good Time to Take a Vacation?

Absolutely, if the destination matches the experience you want. Winter can be perfect for escaping somewhere tropical, embracing ski season, chasing the northern lights, exploring festive cities, or simply getting away during a quieter part of the year.

Just research before you fall in love with the pictures.

Some destinations reduce attraction hours, tours, ferries, or restaurant schedules during their true off-season.

Where Should You Travel in Fall or Winter?

Don’t start with somebody else’s “Top 10 Fall Destinations” list.

Start with what you want.

If you want culture and comfortable sightseeing

Think about destinations like:

• Portugal

• Spain

• Italy

• France

• Ireland

If you want warmth

Look toward:

• the Caribbean

• Mexico

• Hawaii

• warm-weather cruises

If you want to embrace the season

Consider:

• European Christmas markets

• mountain retreats

• ski destinations

• northern lights trips

But here’s the part I care about most:

Don’t pick a destination because everybody else says it’s where you should go.

Ask yourself what you’re craving.

Rest? Food? Culture? Warmth? Adventure? Quiet? A little bit of everything?

Start there.

Then choose the destination.

Before You Book Your Late-Year Vacation

Before you fall in love with the pictures and start mentally packing outfits, check a few things.

• Look at the actual weather. Average temperatures and rainfall matter more than somebody’s perfectly edited Reel.

• Check seasonal closures. Some tours, restaurants, ferries, and attractions reduce their schedules outside peak season.

• Watch the holiday calendar. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, school breaks, festivals, and major local events can dramatically affect availability and pricing.

• Compare flexible dates. Moving your trip by even a few days can sometimes change your options.

• Book what matters most first. If there’s one hotel, restaurant, tour, or experience that would make the trip for you, don’t build the entire vacation and then discover it’s unavailable.

Most importantly, stop assuming vacation season begins in June and ends in August.

It doesn’t.

Final Thoughts: Maybe Summer Doesn’t Get All Your PTO

Summer will always have its moment.

But it doesn’t deserve custody of every vacation day you have.

Fall and winter can give you fewer crowds, comfortable weather, completely different seasonal experiences, and sometimes more room in your budget for the parts of travel you actually care about.

More importantly, you get to choose a trip based on how you want to feel, instead of automatically traveling when everybody else does.

You learn how to keep going. You figure it out. You become the person who can carry a lot. And after a while, carrying a lot starts to feel normal.

That is where things get dangerous.

Because you might not realize you are burned out when you are still getting things done. You just know everything feels heavier than it used to. Solo entrepreneurs are especially good at turning rest into something we have to earn. Finish the launch first. Hit the revenue goal first. Catch up on emails first. Then you can rest. Except there is always another first.

Rest is not what you get after proving how exhausted you are. It is part of how you remain connected to the person doing the work. Sometimes the most responsible thing you can do for your business is close the laptop before resentment sets in.

You do not have to abandon yourself to build something successful. You do not have to exhaust yourself to prove you want it.
