the loud funny guy at the bar with three friends laughing passes the test.

this has nothing to do with his personality.

it is her nervous system. it is asking one thing only.

“is this one likely to separate me from my friends and bury me in the woods?”

this is NOT about being nice. if anything being overly NICE is what flags the murderer circuit.

once you understand this. you can critique almost every post that you read about game.

every pickup artist method that builds tension is not getting her want to fuck you. its making her want to run and cry in the bathroom.

when the guy leans into her face and narrows his eyes and talks to her like an army sargent. her nervous system is not registering seduction. moreso registering “he is a rapist”

she is smiling politely because smiling is the female freeze response, the social equivalent of a rabbit going still in grass. she will remove herself from the room the first time the bathroom line thins.

so, what actually drops her guard?

they cry and ask themselves why women like the “players”

its a simple mechanism. and you’ve likely heard it’s gene signalling. but it’s deeper than that. we’re not actual monkeys.

she thinks “if he has others girls around him, they must feel safe with him, he can’t be a murderer”

that’s the only way for her to jump on your lap within the 5 mins of meeting her.

but this is unrealistic. you’re not walking around your day to day life with 5 bitches circling you. its moreso for club and social settings.

what is a daily use is calm motion. a man who sits when she is standing registers as lower threat. a man who ties his shoe when talking to her disappears from her threat radar entirely. which is why the giggle appears when you do it.

“omg he’s bowing down to me heheh it’s like he’s my boyfriend”

“oh he’s standing back up… he’s cold now? wait, he’s not my boyfriend. oh”

next is the absence of interrogation. a man asking her detailed questions about her route home, her schedule, her living situation quite literally sound like a murderer. and why would you want to know more about her job anyway? nobody cares.

a man who talks about himself for an hour with real ambition… and doesn’t ask her anything except from silly stupid older brother comedic type questions.

there is really zero chance for you to NOT get a second meet with her. truly.

she wants to be in YOUR pocket. cozy. warm. safe. laughing. she doesn’t want to feel like she's the one putting you in her pocket.

a man who is making her laugh is releasing the specific neurochemistry that cannot coexist with threat detection. if you can keep her laughing for an hour you have created a state inside her where the test has gone fully offline. a state she has not been in with most men in her life. including the one she’s probably dating as you speak to her.

when shes encapsulated by laughter… its all joy… she feels like a little girl playing with her father and laughing until she’s teary.

“he makes me feel young. i don’t want him to go, i don’t want to go back”

she will tell herself the reason she went home with the drunk loud funny guy is that he was fun. she will tell herself the reason she has no interest in the stable sweet steady man is that he is boring. she does not know she is saying the stable sweet steady man triggered her check and the drunk loud funny one didn’t.

this does not mean to be the drunk funny guy.

he gets the pussy for the night. he’s renting it. simply no point in that.

the game is to keep her. on a leash. she can never leave. and telling her to leave makes her want to stay more.

if the dynamic is SHE wants to be your girlfriend and you REJECT it. you’re doing it right.

other way round… you’re eating crumbs. you’ll get her when she’s drunk and she’ll only remember the morning after.

after that. they found that sugar only makes you fat because of PUFAs. seed oils and nuts

she went still.

still. the way an animal goes still when it hears a branch snap. her whole system just stopped.

mid sentence. mid breath. eyes locked on mine but not looking at me anymore. looking at something behind me. or behind herself.

she said “how do you know that.”

not a question. but a statement. flat. almost angry.

like i’d walked into a room i wasn’t supposed to be in and turned the lights on and she was standing there in something she never intended anyone to see.

that moment. that exact moment. is the most powerful thing that can happen between two people. between a writer and a reader. between a brand and a buyer. between you and anyone you’ll ever try to move.

and nobody in copywriting has ever explained what it actually is. because nobody in copywriting has read freud’s 1919 paper on it.

i have. so.

let’s go.

the uncanny.

freud published a paper called das unheimliche. the uncanny.

it’s one of those papers that makes you sit back and just stare at the wall for a while because the implications are so large they don’t fit inside normal thinking.

the word itself is german. unheimlich. literally “un-homely.” not of the home. not of the familiar. but here’s where freud does the thing that makes him the coked up jew that he is.

he doesn’t define the uncanny as “the strange.” every horror writer knows the strange. monster jumps out. you scream.

that’s not “uncanny”

that’s more like “surprise”

surprise wears off. the uncanny doesn’t wear off. it stays in the body. it lives there.

freud defines the uncanny as the familiar made strange. the thing you already know. appearing where it shouldn’t. in a form you didn’t expect. from a source that has no right to possess it.

jentsch wrote about it before freud. jentsch said the uncanny comes from intellectual uncertainty.

you can’t tell if something is alive or dead. real or fake. a wax figure that looks too human. a doll with eyes that follow you. that’s “uncanny”

that’s what jentschs conlusion was.

freud read jentsch and said that’s the surface.

what’s underneath is the return of the repressed.

you have thoughts you’ve buried. impulses you’ve denied. truths about yourself that you’ve pushed so far down they don’t register as thoughts anymore. they register as mood. as tension. as the feeling you get at 3am when you’re lying in bed and something surfaces and you don’t let it finish surfacing. you roll over. check your phone. push it back down.

that material doesn’t disappear. it’s simply repressed. forgotten. but still there. you just can’t see it. which is what “skeletons in the closet” means.

the stored material is always looking for an exit.

the uncanny is what happens when it finds one.

when someone else’s words describe the thing you buried. when a stranger articulates the thought you wouldn’t let yourself finish. when a sentence in an email names the exact shape of the thing you pushed down at 3am.

your system goes still. the way that girl went still. because the familiar just appeared in an impossible location. inside a stranger’s mouth. and your nervous system cannot reconcile how that’s possible.

that’s the uncanny.

recognition. of something that was supposed to stay hidden. surfacing in someone else’s words.

and it is, by a margin nobody in marketing has ever measured, the most converting emotional state a human being can experience.

what “i feel seen” actually is.

people throw this phrase around like it’s a compliment. “i feel seen.” like the writer did a good job. like the targeting was accurate. like the avatar research paid off.

and it’s not actually good.

the neurological event is not pleasant. it’s not warm. it’s the same event that happens when you see your reflection move when you didn’t.

four systems fire simultaneously.

the amygdala. threat detection. the oldest part of your brain. it processes emotional significance before your conscious mind even knows something happened. when someone’s words describe your internal landscape with specificity that shouldn’t be possible, the amygdala reads it as a boundary violation. someone is inside a room that should be locked. the amygdala fires the way it fires when you hear footsteps in an empty house.

the anterior insula. this is the part of your brain that maps your body.

awareness. the felt sense of what’s happening inside you right now. when the words on the page describe a specific emotional texture you carry.

the anterior insula maps those external words onto your internal body state. the language on the screen becomes the feeling in your chest.

the insula is literally translating someone else’s words into a bodily experience.

the medial prefrontal cortex. the part that activates when you think about yourself.

your beliefs. your identity. when accurate description of your repressed self hits this region, there’s a collision.

the information is self referential. it’s about you. but it arrived from outside.

from a stranger. the system that processes “me” is being fed data from “not me.” and that contradiction is what produces the weird “uncanny” feeling.

and theory of mind. the temporoparietal junction. the system that models other people’s mental states.

when you read someone’s words and they describe you with accuracy that exceeds your own conscious self knowledge, your theory of mind system produces a conclusion that feels impossible: this person understands me better than i understand myself.

four systems. simultaneously. threat detection. body mapping. self reference. mind reading. all firing at once.

that’s the neurological signature of the uncanny. and it produces a physical response ‚breath catching, chills down the spine, a moment of absolute stillness.

that girl i told you about at the start. when she felt “seen”.

what actually happened is her amygdala detected an intruder. her insula mapped my words onto her body. her prefrontal cortex said “this is about me” while simultaneously saying “this came from outside me.” and her theory of mind concluded that i had access to information i shouldn’t have.

she said “how do you know that.” and what she meant was: how are you inside a room that i locked.

the barnum line.

every copywriter who thinks “knowing your avatar” means writing “you’ve always felt different from everyone else.”

that’s the barnum effect.

normally identified by a psychologist called forer in 1949. he gave students a personality assessment. told each one it was customised. it wasn’t. everyone got the same paragraph. vague statements.

“you have a great need for other people to like and admire you.”

“you have a tendency to be critical of yourself.”

“at times you have serious doubts as to whether you have made the right decision.”

every student rated the assessment as highly accurate. because the statements were vague enough that anyone could pour themselves into them. that’s barnum. the horoscope trick. the cold read. it works. barely. it produces mild positive affect. “that’s so me.” she nods. shares the quiz. moves on with her day. forgets about it by lunch.

the barnum statement activates self-referential processing. “this is about me.” and then nothing else. no threat detection. no body mapping. no chills. no stillness. because the statement is safe. it challenges nothing. it names nothing that was hidden. it just describes the general shape of being human and lets the reader fill in the blanks.

every copywriter who writes “you’re tired of the same old advice” is writing barnum. every landing page that says “you know there’s a better way” is barnum. it converts at whatever a horoscope converts at. which is enough to keep the lights on. but it will never make someone go still.

the other side of the line is the uncanny.

the uncanny statement is specific. it describes a particular texture of internal experience that the reader has not articulated to themselves. it names the exact shape of something they buried. and the specificity is what prevents the brain from dismissing it.

barnum: “you sometimes feel misunderstood.”

uncanny: “you perform a version of yourself so consistently that you’ve forgotten which version is real. and the exhaustion you feel isn’t from the performance. it’s from the fact that nobody has ever asked for the version underneath it. so you stopped offering. and now you’re not sure it still exists.”

one produces a nod. the other produces stillness. the neurological events are not even in the same category.

barnum activates one system. self reference. mild. warm.

the uncanny activates four systems simultaneously. self reference. threat. body. theory of mind. and the physical sensation is not warmth. it’s a kind of arrest. like gravity just doubled for half a second. like the room got quieter. like your lungs forgot what they were doing.

why i keep telling you about the bodily sensations is because in business you need to get familiar with them. the body sensations is what gets people to MOVE. to move to the buy button.

that’s the line. and most people in this space have never crossed it because they’ve never understood what’s on the other side. they think “good copy” means “relatable copy.” relatable is barnum. the uncanny is not relatable. the uncanny is the moment someone reads your words and their hands go cold.

told a girl “when you come over tonight we’ll figure out what to watch.”

she said okay.

assuming the sale.

“come over tonight” is an imperative.

an order.

but it’s wrapped inside a softer sentence so her conscious mind processed a suggestion while her subconscious received a directive.

two channels. one she’s aware of. one she’s not.

she gets dressed before she’d finished thinking about whether she wanted to.

the sentence made the decision. her conscious mind just watched it happen and rationalised it.

you’re speaking to the part of her mind that actually gets her to move. and that’s the subconscious.

that’s an embedded command. a standalone order hidden inside a normal sentence.

call it the trojan horse.

it’s in a conversational wrapper. but inside is the command.

that’s a subliminal.

her conscious mind is too busy processing the conversation to notice the directive being installed underneath it.

was reading up on copywriting case studies.

and here was a case of using auto suggestion to make money :

rewriting someones sales page.

the original said “our program helps you build a profitable business.”

converts at 1.2%.

change it to “when you join this program you’ll start building a profitable business within the first month. and then you’ll spend the profits to buy more ads"

conversions triple. 3.5%-4%

the sentence was the only variable.

and there’s layers here.

it makes it seem more “believable” when you add what happens AFTER. “and then you’ll spend the profits to buy more ads”

that’s suggesting the hard work is already done. that’s conveying “easy” and “safe”

it slips right past the conscious into the subconscious.

“when you join this program” and “start building” are orders. wrapped in a statement.

the subconscious took the order while her conscious mind read the statement.

you can mark the command with subtle formatting. italics. bold. slight shift. the conscious mind registers emphasis.

the subconscious registers separation. priority. filed differently. processed differently. acted on without knowing why.

presuppositions.

this one’s quieter.

you cannot defend against it.

the defence would require disassembling the sentence before you process it.

and your brain doesn’t do that. it processes left to right. sequentially.

which means the assumption installs as a CONDITION of comprehension. you accept it in order to understand me.

and by the time you’ve understood me the assumption is already filed.

“when we hang out next week, remind me to show you this place i found.”

she has to accept all three to understand what i was saying.

she says “what place?”

not “who said we’re hanging out.” because the hanging out was structural. it was baked into the grammar.

questioning it would mean dismantling the sentence. and the brain doesn’t dismantle sentences. it just... processes them. and files the assumptions. and moves on.

i do this constantly.

“when you start using these on your sales page.” presupposes you will.

“before you decide which tactic you should use” presupposes you’ll decide.

and now you’ll see it. you’ll subconsciously start using these in real life.
