The weather is as [mostly] expected. Florida summers are no joke...vicious mosquitos that are tearing me up, extremely warm, followed almost daily by a storm that rolls in like clockwork. Honestly, I’m grateful for it. It’s really the only thing that cools things down. And I love it, especially that I find myself outside so much more to enjoy the sun…now if I’ll just get better about wearing my sunscreen to prevent more freckles lol

I’ve had to rebuild my entire “who do I trust with this” list from scratch. Nails, doctors, the vet, you name it. You don’t realize how much invisible trust you’ve built with people back home until you have to start over and test everyone out one by one.

Finding a grocery store shouldn’t feel like a whole identity crisis, but here we are. I’m a Whole Foods girl through and through, but I’d be lying if I said Fresh Market hasn’t been seeing me a little more than expected. Some habits are apparently more negotiable than I thought…

And the biggest thing I’m actually working through right now: figuring out my routine. I had a rhythm for the version of me that visited over the past year. But actually living here is different. It’s this real-time mix of what already exists and what I’m envisioning as my ideal day, and slowly building toward that instead of defaulting to what’s familiar.

A few things that have genuinely helped along the way:

• Give yourself permission to ‘test drive’ service providers instead of expecting to get it right the first time

• Let your routine be a work in progress, not something you have to have figured out on day one

• Small, ordinary wins (finding your grocery store, remembering how to get somewhere without your phone) count for more than they seem like they should

But, if I’m honest, the biggest thing I’ve learned so far isn’t about Florida at all. It’s that I can do big things. I always knew that, practically of course...but knowing something and actually living it are different. I’ve never done something like this before. Leaving the only life, people and places I’ve ever known was never really about logistics. It was about stepping away from the people who ground me, who I ground in return and trusting that I could build something steady without them right next to me.

Turns out, getting comfortable with the uncomfortable is something i’ve been perfecting these last few years and it really does teach you more about yourself than staying comfortable ever could.

I’ve always felt called to someplace new and wondered what it would feel like to live somewhere else. Not in some big dramatic way, just a quiet curiosity that never really got to go anywhere...because school, life, relationships, family, all of it kept me exactly where I was. DC is where I built my whole life. My career, my identity, almost 39 years of this beautiful city. It’s a city and community that shaped me and one I’ve always known. And for a long time, that felt like enough…it was enough.

But a few years ago, something in me started pulling away from what was safe and familiar. Not because anything was wrong, necessarily...more like I could feel myself wanting a change, but a change I actually chose, on my own terms. That part mattered a lot to me, because so much of what was happening around me at the time felt completely out of my control. I didn’t want the next shift in my life to be one more thing that just happened to me…instead one that I get to choose.

So I went looking. Traveled more. Went on retreats. Started actually nourishing my mind and my body instead of just going through the motions. I told myself I was searching for clarity, trying to figure out who I was outside of the roles I’d always played. Looking back now, I think what I was really doing was hoping someone or something would just hand me the “right” answer, so I wouldn’t have to be the one to decide.

Fast forward to the last two years, and that pull got louder than it had ever been. I found myself seriously torn between two cities: Chicago and Miami.

Chicago, because I genuinely loved it. I’ve always described it as what you’d get if New York and DC had a baby...the food, the people, a real city that still felt easy to navigate. The one thing standing in the way? Those Chi town winters. Which sounds small until you’re picturing an entire life inside them.

Miami, because I kept spending more time there and kept noticing how much I loved it. The weather, obviously. But also the wellness of it all, the pace, the fact that it didn’t feel like too much the way some bigger cities do. I could get a clearer picture of what my ideal days would look like here. It kept quietly making its case: maybe this could be it.

I didn’t know which way I’d go. And if I’m honest, that indecision was never really about Chicago versus Miami. It was fear. Either choice meant an unknown. It meant distance from my family. It meant real change, and I’ve never been someone who does change easily. I crave security and stability. I like knowing what’s coming and planning accordingly.

And then life did its own thing...a new relationship found its way in, one I didn't see coming. More and more time spent in Florida. And somewhere in the back and forth of all that, the decision I’d been sitting with for years just...made itself.

I said yes anyway, fear and all. Packed up many years into boxes and a car, and left the only place I’d ever called home.

This is the first time in my life I’ve lived away from home. Not away from my family, away from home, the whole concept of it. And there’s something about doing a “first” like that a little later in life that nobody really prepares you for. You’d think it gets easier the older you get…and in some ways it does…but in other ways it’s harder, because you have more to leave behind.

That's really what this space is for. Not just the move, not just this season...but the thread underneath all of it: what it looks like to choose change on your own terms, even when you're scared, even when security is the thing you crave most. But it's not all going to be this deep, not to worry. Expect the trips, the food, the wellness rituals, the fun stuff and probably some plot twists, big and small. You know, basically...life, as it's actually unfolding.

I came to realize after lots of inner work through different mediums, that for so long, I built my life around what has been expected/required of me, about what made sense on paper - the plans, the timelines, the goals….by imposed (or in many cases perceived) pressure to be or perform in a certain way….and even prove I was enough. My version of ‘success’ was what always kept me running toward something.

But life continues to remind me that the only thing any of us every really have is right now…the present moment…and quite frankly, that’s more than enough.

I’m learning that by focusing on the present moment and making a point to stop treating joy as a reward you earn for ‘good work’ or something later/in the future and instead start treating it as the direction you move in now, that everything shifts. I’m feeling it first hand and I can’t wait to document the process of making ‘joy’ my guiding star.

Was it one moment that flipped the switch for me? No, indeed lol. It’s been a series of loud and quiet ones - endings I didn’t plan, risks I almost didn’t take, the mornings and nights when I had to remind myself to keep going anyway …and more…

Those moments taught me that joy is a choice…it’s a feeling you can tap into at any moment and it’s one that can guide you farther because it’s inherent. There’s nothing you have to do to earn or receive it.

To be clear, I think a lot of what we see online and IRL is a bit of bullshit (no shade) but I really think I don’t

subscribe to just sharing the highlight reel…this mindset shift is not about being happy/joyful all the time by any means…it’s about staying open enough to notice the small, good things even in the middle of uncertainty and letting that guide the choices made and the path being walked.

Because joy, real joy, doesn’t ask you to ignore what’s hard …it asks you to let the hard stuff soften you instead of harden you.

If I’ve learned anything these past few years, it’s this:
Joy creates clarity.
It clears the noise (even just a little bit), refines what matters and gently reminds you that alignment and ambition aren’t opposites.

I’m finding that when I follow joy in my work, my routines, my relationships, I’m making better, more aligned choices. I create more freely. I feel more like myself.
And that, I’ve realized, is the most sustainable business plan of all…even if it takes a bit more time.

Two things that have helped me lately that I offer you:

1. Ask “what feels good right now?” more often.
   Not what should I do, but what feels good?

2. Let curiosity (and uncertainty) replace control.
   Trying not to map out every step and allowing them to make room for better ones to appear. I’m learning that letting life unfold is an act of trust…and that trust is its own kind of power.

I’ll share more soon about how I got here - the plot twists, pivots and quiet realizations that changed everything.

But for now, I hope you’ll remember this: joy isn’t the finish line. It’s the invitation to start right where you are.

Because when you let joy lead… in your work, your routines, your relationships…everything that’s meant for you starts to find its way.

Over the past few years, my life has been a journey of self-discovery, healing, growth, and ultimately, coming home to myself. I've learned that the present moment is all we really have - and that it's worth everything to truly live in it.

More than ever, I feel a pull to experience life fully…to lean into what lights me up, to say yes to what calls me forward and to savor the little moments that make it all so rich. Time is limited and what I know for sure is that I want to spend mine well: living with love, staying open, learning and choosing to write my own story, page by page.
