A man who sets boundaries is respected. He's praised for knowing his worth and protecting his peace.

Why is that?

Why is a woman's desire for power seen as overbearing, while power is treated as a man's birthright?

Perhaps because a woman who loves herself becomes harder to control. She stops seeking permission. She no longer shrinks herself to make others comfortable. She questions expectations that once felt unquestionable. She chooses herself without apology.

Self-love in women has never simply been about bubble baths or affirmations. At its deepest, it's an act of reclaiming authority over your own life. And any system built on women's self sacrifice will inevitably see that as a threat.

The irony is that the same qualities celebrated in men confidence, ambition, decisiveness, self respect are often criticized in women. The behavior doesn't change. The lens through which it's is viewed does.

Maybe that's why a woman who loves herself so deeply can seem so disruptive.

Not because she's too much.

But because she refuses to be less.

Beauty as a Way Of Being

Presence, ritual, and the quiet power of The rituals of beautification shift across cultures and time, yet one truth remains: it was never only about physical appearance.

It is about presence.
Energy.
Something felt before it is ever named.

You can sense when a woman has adorned herself. It lingers in the air around her the quiet evidence of effort, consistency, ritual, and intention.

Self-adornment is not a task. It is a state of being.

What begins as care transforms into presence. Oiling your skin becomes aromatic, almost sacred. Perfume does not simply sit on the body it lingers in memory.

Getting dressed is no longer rushed. It becomes deliberate. Slow. Intentional.

A moment to face yourself and not look away.
To recognize your beauty without shame.
To allow it to exist fully, to take up space without apology.

In a world that moves quickly, adornment asks you to slow down.

To return to your body.
To your senses.
To yourself.

It becomes less about being seen, and more about being felt. Less about perfection, and more about presence.

And in choosing to adorn yourself with care, you are choosing more than appearance you are choosing to experience yourself fully, to witness your own becoming, and to move through the world with intention.

Adornment, then, is not vanity.

It is devotion.

The dark side of We imagine desire as proof of our worth, evidence that we are seen, chosen, and valued. We celebrate it in stories, songs, and films. To be desired is often presented as the ultimate affirmation.

But desire carries a shadow that we rarely talk about.

To be desired is often to be placed on a pedestal you were never meant to stand on.

The higher someone elevates you, the further you have to fall. Their admiration becomes a set of expectations. Their fascination becomes a standard you can never fully meet. Suddenly, you are no longer allowed the ordinary privilege of being human.

You cannot disappoint a fantasy because a fantasy was never real to begin with.

The tragedy is that desire is frequently mistaken for love.

Love and desire can coexist, of course, but they are not the same thing.

Love sees a person.

Desire often sees an idea.

Love moves toward acceptance. Desire moves toward possession. Love asks, "Who are you?" Desire asks, "What can you make me feel?"

When someone deeply desires you, they may not be yearning for you at all. They may be yearning for the feeling they experience in your presence. The excitement. The validation. The possibility. The escape from themselves.

In that sense, desire can become profoundly self centered.

The object of desire becomes a vessel onto which another person pours their hopes, fears, fantasies, and unmet needs. They begin to interact not with a human being but with a projection of one.

The desired person slowly disappears beneath the weight of the image.

This is why idealization often feels flattering at first and suffocating later.

In the beginning, it feels wonderful to be admired. Someone notices every detail about you. They seem captivated by your existence. Their attention feels intoxicating.

Then reality arrives.

You have flaws.

You have contradictions.

You have bad days, insecurities, shortcomings, and wounds.

You are not the flawless character they created in their mind.

The moment those imperfections emerge, the pedestal begins to crack.

Some people react to this reality with disappointment. Others with resentment. They feel betrayed, not because you changed, but because their fantasy was challenged. The person they thought they knew never actually existed.

The irony is that the more intensely someone idealizes you, the less likely they are to truly know you.

Real intimacy requires curiosity. It requires accepting complexity. It requires allowing another person to remain separate from your imagination.

Fantasy demands certainty.

Love tolerates ambiguity.

Fantasy creates perfection.

Love makes room for humanity.

This is why being genuinely loved often feels less exhilarating than being intensely desired. Love is quieter. Less dramatic. Less obsessive.

But it is infinitely more freeing.

When someone loves you, they do not ask you to remain on a pedestal. They invite you to step down from it. They allow you to be brilliant one day and disappointing the next. They recognize your strengths without denying your weaknesses.

Most importantly, they do not need you to save them from themselves.

Desire often carries the hunger of an aching soul searching for fulfillment.

Love carries the humility to understand that no other person can provide it.

Perhaps that is the difference.

To be desired is to risk becoming someone's fantasy.

To be loved is to be allowed to remain a person.

And if we are fortunate, the people who truly matter will choose the person over the fantasy every time.

“The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves.” — Thomas Merton

Step outside the box

Rejecting expectations, reclaiming autonomy, and choosing who you want to become.

Dejia luv

For so many years, I tried to contort myself to fit inside boxes that were never designed for me. Boxes created by societal expectations. Boxes that told me who I should be, how I should behave, what I should want, and how much space I was allowed to take up.

This year, I've decided to step outside of those boxes.

I no longer want to live a life designed by a system that often rewards conformity over authenticity. Too often, we're given rules where we should be given freedom, and expectations where we should be given choices.

Around the world, women are still fighting for rights many people take for granted. In places like Afghanistan, women face severe restrictions on their education, their visibility, and their ability to participate in public life. In countries affected by conflict and instability, such as Congo, Somalia, and Yemen, countless women continue to face barriers that limit their autonomy, safety, and opportunities.

The details may differ from place to place, but the message is often the same.. stay within the boundaries that have been set for you.

The United States has made significant progress, but our history tells a similar story. Women were denied the right to vote until 1920. For many Black women, discriminatory laws and practices continued to prevent full access to the ballot box until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It wasn't until 1974 that women gained the legal right to open a bank account without requiring a male co-signer.

These weren't gifts. They were rights that women fought for.

And while progress has been made, I still see the pressure women face every day. The pressure to be agreeable. To be accommodating. To be nurturing, but not ambitious. Confident, but not too confident. Assertive, but not intimidating. Successful, but not threatening.

Too often, women are taught that their value comes from how comfortable they make other people feel.

I reject that.

As an act of revolution whether personal, social, or political i believe we must step outside the boxes that were created for us.

When you feel compelled to shrink yourself to make others comfortable, step outside the box.

When you feel pressured to conform to expectations that do not align with who you are, step outside the box.

When you are told that your dreams are too ambitious, your voice is too loud, your emotions are too much, or your presence takes up too much space, step outside the box.

Dare to be great.

Be big. Be loud. Be messy. Be unapologetically yourself.

Show up in the world as you choose, not as others have prescribed.

The people who benefit from your silence will always prefer your obedience. The people who benefit from your self doubt will always prefer your hesitation.

Do not make yourself smaller for their comfort.

Step outside the box.

"Well-behaved women seldom make history."
— Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Who Benefits When Women Have No Boundaries?

Unlearning the belief that my value comes from keeping everyone else happy.

Dejia luv

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any.”
— Alice Walker

Unfortunately, for many women including myself the importance of boundaries and self preservation was never something we were taught growing up.

Instead, we were often praised for people pleasing, overextending ourselves, and keeping the peace at all costs. We learned that our worth was tied to how much we could give, how much we could endure, and how effectively we could put the needs of others before our own.

I want to challenge that narrative.

Your value does not come from your ability to make everyone around you comfortable. It does not come from abandoning your desires, silencing your needs, or sacrificing your well being for the people you love. That belief is a form of conditioning one that may have helped women survive in the past, but one that no longer serves us.

Today, many of us have opportunities our ancestors could only dream of: freedom, autonomy, financial independence, and the ability to shape our own lives. Yet stepping into that power requires something many of us were never taught: boundaries.

Boundaries are not walls. They are not selfish acts of rejection. They are acts of self respect.

Your energy is one of your most valuable resources. Without boundaries, people will continually draw from it sometimes unintentionally until you find yourself depleted, exhausted, and disconnected from your own needs. You become a well that everyone visits, but no one helps refill.

Protecting your energy doesn't mean closing yourself off from the world. It means understanding your capacity. It means recognizing when to give and when to rest. It means knowing that preserving yourself is not a betrayal of others it is a commitment to yourself.

When you learn to honor your limits, you create the conditions to show up more fully, more authentically, and more sustainably in every area of your life. Self preservation is not selfish. It is the foundation from which your power grows.

“Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves, even when we risk disappointing others.”
— Brené Brown
