Tell us about how you became a stylist!

I began my styling business very organically close to 20 years ago, lovingly pushed into it by a dear friend who always relied on me to dress her. But if I’m being honest to myself, I should have seen my calling much earlier. I remember working every weekend in middle school to save up for the perfect white poplin Lauren Ashley blouse and how much I coveted the navy blue triangle Liz Claiborne purse I got in the 6th grade.

How would you describe your personal style and process? Who do you draw inspiration from?

My personal style right now is BIG! I love oversized, Japanese-inspired looks that consume the body. In recent years, I draw my inspiration while traveling. I tend to research the one off boutiques ahead of time and get excited about entering a whole new environment, a different buy than what I am used to from larger stores in NYC. My closet is composed 90% of pieces I buy in small, curated stores.

What are three pieces you’d recommend to someone looking for the perfect summer to fall transition wardrobe?

The perfect summer to fall wardrobe should include these three items without fail: the perfect pair of high waist, straight leg jeans, a silk blend ribbed tank and a blazer that can work as a fall coat by day or sit on your shoulders over a lace blouse at night. All three together equals a killer combination.

How do you like to unwind after a busy week?

My friends are my everything. I unwind with them most Friday nights and I look forward to it all week!

It’s evident that we’re still holding onto the last bit of summer before we descend into a slower, cooler way of life. Get your final end-of-summer vacations in while you can. Many Daydreamers certainly are, as we’re still seeing spikes in searches for “Bikinis” and “Italy.” Before I spoil anymore of August’s trends, keep reading for 30 days of searches…

La Dolce Vita

Resort-coded searches dominated early, “Strapless” up 150% and “Flowy” up 188% in week 1, then “Bikini” popping up 227% in week 2. We got specific in week 4 when “Italy” climbed 93%. Rome, Sorrento, Portofino, consider me jealous!

Fall Layering

The sweater search held steady through the middle of the month. Searches for “Sweater” up 121% in week 2, then again at 96% in week 3. By week 4, people leveled up into richer, heavier fall textures. “Velvet” spiked 175%, with “Wool” also creeping in at 55%.

Classic “closet transition” signal, but that velvet number tells me people are skipping the basic knit entirely and going straight for something more elevated. Nobody’s satisfied with a plain crewneck this year. Are you? Shop the Fall Layering Edit Now.

Workwear Revival

We’re well on our way to building the most stylish work wardrobe. “Blouses + Collar” spiked 235% in week 2, no doubt the loudest single number in the entire dataset. It set off a full return-to-office buildout: “Blazers” rose 88% and “Loafers” climbed 125% in week 3, with “Blouse” persisting into week 4 at 71%.

Going-Out Glam

Summer’s NOT over yet! We’re still getting outside, hanging with friends and dressing up for a night on the town. “Corset” jumped 210% and “Matching Sets” climbed 118% in week 1. Then “Embellished” and “Striped” increased in week 2 by 133% and 185% respectively.

Western Romance

A small, but consistent signal made an impression throughout August. “Western” opens the month at 91% in week 1, “Colorful” rose 112% and “Embroidered” followed close behind with a 103% increase in week 3. “Suede” closes things out at 100% in week 4.

How would you describe your personal style? Who do you draw inspiration from?

I’d describe my style as lived in and relaxed, with modern feminine touches. I love following Parisiens in Paris for everyday effortless inspo. I’m always referencing Alexa Chung when I’m in a rut for how to spice up a boring outfit. She reminds me to throw on something fun and not to overthink it. Jennifer Lawrence has incredible street style right now that I’m constantly saving. Oh and is the coolest and can throw on anything and make it look good.

Wow so much. Especially the community. I love connecting and engaging with everyone. I’m in awe with how many cool and inspiring women there are out there. Everyone is so nice and supportive of each other over here. It’s such a breath of fresh air and leaves me feeling so inspired.

Dark jeans, a strappy sandal, and a unique top. If I’m not going with jeans, I love a little black mini dress.

Going to Florida with my family. Now that my sister and I have kids it’s so fun and fulfilling. I think I get the best sleep of my life there after those long hot days chasing around our toddlers.

Remember when the idea of a “clean girl” somewhat of a north star? Think slick-backs, matching pink pilates outfits, and basically anything Hailey Bieber ever put on her body? Aesthetics have been shifting for a while within the industry, and it looks like customers have been catching up and catching on.

This isn’t to say that a “clean-girl” aesthetic is a negative thing. It’s not. But we are actively doing a 180. We’re watching the pendulum swing in real time.

There is some contradicting data though. We can’t all wear our brightest and boldest pieces everyday, however we can put a spin on our tried and true. Think a classic button-down with an exaggerated collar, mis-matched workout gear, or texture-filled fall essentials. So without further ado, here’s what happened in Daydream’s search data this month…

Maxxing-Out

Bear with me here. On the week of July 10th, we saw a 116% increase in searches for “Sparkly.” It was followed by a 61% increase in searches for “Embellished,” then again this week with a hefty 326% jump in searches for “Sequins.”

Besides all things bright and shiny, searches for “Funky” rose 53% the week of July 17th, “Statement” and “Stripes” jumped up 116% and 300% respectively the week after, and this week we saw “Stripes” continue to climb the ladder with an additional 125% increase.

Everyday Essentials a la 2000s

Have you seen the trend combining ballet flats and airy blouses with little track shorts? Surprise, surprise, searches for “Ballet Flats” and “Athletic” were up 92% and 109% the week of July 23th. 7 days earlier we saw a 55% uptick in Daydream users looking for “Tank Tops,” and another 55% increase the week prior in “Low Waisted.”

But what exactly do these have in common? If you guessed the 2000s (even if you largely based it on the extremely telling section-heading), you’re right! They all have a little something to do with an everyday outfit you may see in the 2000s. Shop the Everyday Essentials Edit!

Talking Texture

I’m a big believer in the idea that one should never shy away from tacking on some texture to their look. Whether it’s a mesh shoe or an entire embellished outfit is up to you, but adding something tactile is always a good idea. IMO- the simplest way to make your outfit interesting.

In the past month we’ve seen these keywords creep up and up: “Suede” by 157%, “Embellished” by 61%, “Sequins” by 326%, and “Mesh” by 180%. When viewing this alongside maximalism’s growing residence, it’s safe to say that these are not going anywhere anytime soon. Shop the Talking Texture Edit to prep.

No More OOO

It’s hard to get back into the swing of things after spending time doing anything but thinking about work or school. The silver lining however, is that this is the perfect time to revamp your professional wardrobe. Whether you’re returning to the classroom or the boardroom, you can always find a way to add a bit of a twist.

This week, searches for “Collar” rose 273%, followed by searches for “Tailored” which increased by 220%. Earlier in the month we saw an additional 67% climb in searches for “Loafers” and a 72% percent climb in searches for “School.” Above all else however, was this week’s 332% additional increase in “School.” Add the right accessories, or maybe an exaggerated silhouette, and you’ll be sure to win “Most Stylish.” Shop the Back In Office Edit to get a leg up on the competition.

It Can’t Be…

I can hear the saxophones getting louder as I’m writing this. It’s not time already is it? The sudden interest in suede this week caught my eye. While it can be worn throughout the warmer seasons, it immediately signals fall in my eyes. Searches for “Fall” have been increasing week over week, but they hit a new high today as they reached a 206% increase.

Suede has been slowly creeping up as well, but rose by 157% in the past 7 days. Combine that with the multiple weeks of searches for “School” trending and it seems like we have ourselves a signal. The good news is that Daydream users already seem to be planning for it! You should too… Shop the Fall Edit today!

“Funky, but elevated dress for a July wedding”

How would you describe your personal style?

I love elevated simplicity- pieces you can reach for every day without overthinking how to style them. I’m also a big accessories girl, so I always use jewelry, shoes, or a great bag to pull a look together. I want my style to feel attainable, so you’ll almost always find me mixing high and low pieces.

What’s your summer uniform?

A classic white tee, a fun pair of boxer shorts, micro shorts, or jorts. I’ve been living in my Havaianas, but if I want to dress the look up, I’ll swap them for a colorful ballet flat or a boat shoe.

What’s your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

Paris. It’s a city where getting dressed feels like part of the experience. Every day is an opportunity to romanticize life, and fashion becomes a form of self-expression.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Living in NYC, I get so much inspiration from simply people-watching. But my love for fashion really started with my incredibly chic grandmother- she’s the reason I fell in love with personal style in the first place.

If you had five minutes to get ready for dinner, what would you throw on?

Low-rise jeans, a silk scoop-neck tank, neutral kitten heels with a matching clutch, and a statement necklace. Simple, effortless, and polished.

What’s your favorite part about your job? Has there ever been a moment where you knew you were on the right path?

My favorite part about working in fashion is helping people feel confident. I truly believe there’s nothing more empowering than wearing an outfit you feel comfortable and like yourself in, and that’s not always easy to find. Being able to help women build that confidence through their wardrobe is incredibly fulfilling.

I knew I was on the right path when I started sharing my personal style online and saw people not only connecting with my content, but trusting my recommendations and wanting to recreate my outfits. That trust means everything to me.

Couper launched in 2021 with a simple frustration: women were tired of showing up to every wedding in the same dress. An Atlantic City Meet-Cute

Before Couper existed, before there was even an idea for Couper, there was a rainy weekend in Avalon, New Jersey, and nothing to do but drive to Atlantic City. Agee and Caroline weren’t friends yet, they were two girlfriends of two college buddies, meeting for the first time at a blackjack table.

AGEE: I have zero idea how to do anything related to a casino. Like, you put me at a blackjack table and I’m completely screwed. But Caroline, like, rolled in, fitted white jeans with gold Jack Rogers, and I was just like, “Who is this girl?” She, like, comes in with a Corona and is like, “All right,” sits down, starts talking to the dealer... And I’m like, “Okay, she has a lot more talent at this table than I do.”

After a loaded Corona, a stop at the Princeton, and a mutual love of dirty martinis, a friendship was born. Caroline didn’t even know how to spell Agee’s last name.

CAROLINE: I do like to think that I manifested your marriage, because I did not know what her last name was, nor did I know how to pronounce your first name. And I just put her in my phone as “AG Limeberry,” and here we are — 10 years later — married because of me.

Perked Ears

Somewhere between a Penn State football game and Caroline’s newborn’s first birthday, Couper got its start.

CAROLINE: She was planning to come meet this cute little baby, but I had a whole other agenda.

AGEE: Caroline was like, "All right. I don't really wanna go, like, back to Salesforce after this maternity leave ends. I really wanna do something on my own. Like, I wanna find a partner to do it with. I want it to be something in fashion." And I have always had so much interest in entrepreneurship. I was immediately like, ears perked.

CAROLINE: No matter how hungover you were.

AGEE: Yeah, very, very hungover, but somehow ears still perked.

Two months later, they were at the drawing board. Five months after that, Agee had left her corporate job for good and Caroline never went back to hers.

Betting on Tech

Tech being baked into Couper was always the plan but it ended up being much harder than they imagined.

CAROLINE: That was one of our biggest learnings right off of the bat.

They simplified, leaned on Shopify, and started treating their smaller size as an asset instead of a limitation, offering themselves up as the guinea pig for platforms that needed a real luxury retailer to test on.

AGEE: We’re of course so excited about the Daydream partnership. We actually just had our first learnings call, and we’re already able to implement some of our takeaways from that call. We’re learning what our customers [are] shopping for, searching for... there’s kind of been this transition from this scouring thousands of pages online to directly searching.

CAROLINE: It was something we were afraid of for so long, the tech evolution, and now being able to see how beneficial it is to the business has been really, really cool to watch.

Cynthia Rowley has been designing clothes for over 40 years. She’s survived 101 runway shows, hand-sewed her first collection, and designed everything from bandaids to wetsuits. But ask her how any of it started and the answer isn’t as streamlined as you may think. With no industry contacts, no internships, and no idea where to start, she had an uphill battle. How did Cynthia Rowley become an iconic New York brand? Keep reading to find out.

The U-Haul Heard Round The World

Before Rowley had a store, employees, or any experience in the fashion industry, she had a U-Haul. With a physical map and an assumption of what her life could look like, she drove her sewing machine, rolls of fabrics, and her bedding all the way to New York.

CYNTHIA: It was crazy. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I had this dream that I was going to come to New York and start my company… If I did have the internet, I might not have done it. To me, I had this dream, like, oh, it’s going to be like this. It was definitely not like that, you know? And three weeks after I got here, I had a runway show, which was ridiculous.

It was only after she arrived that she realized Fashion Avenue simply full of factories, but she prevailed, eventually hiring an employee that traded room and board for help building her brand.

CYNTHIA: It was ridiculous. I had no experience at all.

Just Start Doing It

In her own words, “it’s an entrepreneurs’ world right now” and sometimes college isn’t the best option.

CYNTHIA: It’s great, but it depends what you’re interested in. If you’re interested in fashion, definitely the technical side of it I think is important, but you can be self-taught. I just think it’s a really hard premise, to think “I’m going to put four years of my life into this goal” without ever having the practical experience of knowing what day-to-day is like… It’s not glamorous.

Following in her mother’s artistic footsteps, Cynthia attended the Art Institute of Chicago as a painting major, but quickly pivoted away from such a “lonely” profession. Soon after that she began designing and sewing clothing.

CYNTHIA: I was making some really crazy stuff... I had no concept. I was completely naive about the whole thing.

Her best piece of advice? Just start doing it. She had no fashion background, no sense of the industry, no idea what she was doing. Just a willingness to start before she felt ready.

Crazy A*s Sh*t

After 101 runway shows, you’d think Cynthia would have them down to a science. But that’s not necessarily what goes on behind the scenes.

CYNTHIA: I’m a ball of nerves on the inside. I always say, if it’s not a 50-50 chance it’ll be epic or the end of my career, then it’s probably not worth doing. So we do some crazy-ass shit on the runway that — you know, there’s no dress rehearsal, it just has to work or not work. And I just think it has to be memorable no matter what.

“A Eurosummer dress that gives the same impact as Missoni or Pucci”

How would you describe your personal style?

It’s eclectic, playful, colorful and more is always more. I love everything bold in its patterns, colors, and silhouettes. Artisanal pieces and one-of-a-kind pieces are what makes my closet special. I just love wearing unique pieces that no one else has. It’s precious also knowing that the art on my body that I am choosing to express myself with has been created with so much creativity, expertise, and effort while carrying deep tradition, culture, and history.

What’s the coolest work event you’ve been a part of?

The coolest runway that my work has gone down on was a runway that was built in front of the glowing Eiffel Tower at night.

What summer plans are you most looking forward to?

My husband just spontaneously booked a trip to the Seychelles—I’m excited for island hopping and wearing tropical looks.

What inspires you in your day-to-day life?

I am ALWAYS looking at what people are wearing on the streets, cafes I’m at, museums, restaurants, tube, plane—wherever. What inspires me the most is when I see someone with true personal style that is truly unique to them instead of the copy and paste Pinterest styles. I especially appreciate seeing styles that are not everyone’s cup of teas, because personal style shouldn’t be able to be recreated by everyone!

If you had 5 minutes to get ready for dinner, what would you throw on?

I would throw on a statement matching set as I don’t have to think too much and still look like I tried. Something like my Annie’s Ibiza Foxglove fringe dress with matching bolero. Then slip on my casual red Manolos while putting up my hair in a quick claw clip up do and we’re out the door!

“A statement blouse that’s giving “I’m a mum,” but I’m “a cool mum!”

Any funny first date stories?

I have a bottomless pit of first date stories to choose from but here’s one from when I lived in Milan: our first meet/date was planned to be a hiking day trip to Cinque Terre from Milan. I thought, “could be murdered but could also meet my soul mate so I said I’ll take the 50/50 chance”. We met up at the train station but all seats were booked, so we walked over to a car rental and the man rented a car. We drove 3.5 hours to Cinque Terre. When we arrived, the man had me hike 15km up and down steep hills in 90 degree heat. I would say he had 75% chance of being my soul mate by this point, but on our drive back to Milan that evening, the rental car broke down in the middle of the highway, middle of nowhere. Both our phones were dead so I used one of those roadside assistance phones to ask for help in my broken Italian. Tow truck arrived and I asked for them to take us to the nearest village to find a taxi back to Milan. The taxi driver quoted us €800 bc he knew we were stuck and the next train wasn’t until the next day. The man didn’t want to pay and I wasn’t about to pay for his comfort so we had to spend the night in a sketchy outdoor train station, in the freezing cold for 10 hours after an all day hike and still wearing sweaty clothes, with no food, water, or toiletries.

I remember at one point I was curled up on the ground of the train station, desperate for some rest. He kept trying to kiss me with his unbrushed teeth and after making me sleep on the ground of a train station, the soulmate percentage went to 0. I eventually made it home and still have to field his random Linkedin messages.

Now that I write it out, it’s not hehe funny but more tragic funny!

What’s one thing specific you’re shopping for right now/most recent Daydream query?

Tropical Seychelles looks for during the daytime, when I can look effortlessly chic but still stay cool and comfy.

Meet Jordan Rossman, a woman who balances being a talented editor at your favorite magazines with Hamptons summers and curating the best looks. Her style minimalist style pairs well with her love for easy, breezy outfits, but she’s not afraid to dress it up! Staying true to New York City, she believes you can’t go wrong when blending fashion and function.

Without further ado, the stylist is in…

“Fun shorts to spice up a basic summer outfit.”

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is all about ease. I focus more on comfort and fit than trends, collecting pieces that I can reach for anytime and love the way that they look. My style is pretty minimal and sits right between masculine and feminine—I love a sexy slip dress just as much as I love a pair of bermuda shorts.

What’s your summer uniform?

I spend my summers by the water so my uniform consists of lots of linen and poplin. Oversized button-down shirts and linen pants are my go-to for work-from-home moments, dips in the pool, farmer’s market runs, and everything in between. If I’m dressing up (!), I’ll typically style my oversized button downs with white jeans or swap it out for a slinky tank top.

Favorite thing to do in NYC?

Happy hour al fresco! I love dining outdoors, whether it be for date night or to catch up with friends. It’s the best to get to people watch while enjoying some of the incredible restaurants NYC has to offer.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

NYC—is that cheesy!? I am always so inspired by everyone’s looks when walking around the city, and I love how New Yorkers can truly blend fashion with function! We’re all always looking for ways to make outfits feel stylish while also ensuring they can take us from point A to B. It’s fun to see how other people express themselves in this way!

If you had 5 minutes to get ready for dinner, what would you throw on?

White jeans, kitten heels, and a lace camisole.

How did you get started working as a writer? What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I’ve been a writer/editor for almost a decade now—I started on the PR side of media and switched over to editorial when I realized that I wanted to be a bit more creative in my day to day. I reached out to my editor friends that I had met while in PR and told them I’d write anything they needed! A few took a chance on me and the rest is history. I’ll always be grateful for the editors who showed me the ropes.

“Dresses for a tropical vacation. Something that’s easy to throw on, but looks like it took a lot of thought!”

My favorite part of my job is that I have the opportunity to mentor young writers and help them find their voice. It’s truly the coolest thing to get to see how creatives think—each so different and nuanced—so being able to support them in telling their stories is seriously such a joy. I also have had the opportunity to travel the world for fashion weeks, and I’ve loved making friends from all over along the way.

What’s your most recent Daydream query?

I recently asked Daydream to help me find a pair of denim shorts that aren’t too long or too short. I need an in-between option that feels appropriate yet slightly more feminine than bermudas.

And it wasn’t even close. Searches for “Loafers” are up 318% this week, a number so decisive it’s practically a mandate. Not a sneaker, not a sandal, not a flip flop. A loafer.
