following the attack on CSD on Saturday, I find it hard to sleep.

So I’m sharing a practice called the Circle of Protectors with you today, in case you or anyone you know needs support to feel safe(r) to fall asleep.

Here’s how it goes:
Lay in your bed. Eyes can stay open for now if it feels safer.
Imagine someone you trust and who really gives you a sense of safety. A friend, a close one, a celebrity. For me it was Katy Perry, Dalai Lama, my teacher Charlie Morley, my girlfriend, etc.
So, start with one. Imagine that person or being in the corner of your bed, next to your head. Feel into their presence and how they start to create a protective shield over you. Stay with them for a moment.
Then, go to another corner. Place another being there. One by one, cover each corner. And then start filling each side of the bed with more and more of your trusted ones. Feel into their presence, feel their protection. Don’t underestimate the power of intention. If you imagine them there, they will be there to protect you. When you feel safe enough, you can close your eyes, and, staying with their presence, allow yourself to fall asleep.

Hello dear Dreamer 💫

Wherever you are, I hope the heat wave wasn’t too harsh on you.

Personally, I’m still coming back to life.

I want to share a couple of exciting developments with you from the past weeks.

As some of you know, Dreamsome started out as a tech startup, and my main goal was to build an app, which I did. Somewhere along the way life had its ebbs and flows, and I shifted my focus more and more on popularizing dream knowledge and hosting events.

And finally the new concept of Dreamsome is falling into place.

A space to connect with yourself through dreams.

The new website is finally reflecting this change too, and all upcoming events are now listed there as well.

Speaking of these, I’m very excited to host 2 shadow integration circles next week:

one in-person, and one online. I'm drawing on Charlie Morley's work, whose retreat I attended 2 years ago, and the skills I acquired in the 400 hour gestalt training which help me stay present and hold others with whatever emotions in the room.

Shadow work is closely linked to dreams. In fact, the easiest way to discover your projections, blocks and unloved parts is through dreams. In these sessions, however, we will reflect on our waking life, share our struggles with others, and release the energy that’s been used to suppress our “undesired” traits. Which can be quite positive, by the way. And you can be sure that dreams will echo our revelations in the days after.

If you’re following my instagram or youtube, you know that these past weeks I’ve been talking about lucid dreaming in short-form content a lot.

So here I’d like to share a couple of longer-format pieces.

Dream Hub podcast released an episode, where I talk more about shadow integration inside lucid dreams, and my bigger vision for dreamwork and the world.

Plus, I collaborated on an interview with Maša Nobilo from Retsful Sleep, and honestly learnt so much through this conversation.

My favorite bit: sleep issues can reflect a misalignment in the waking life, which dreams can help to uncover.

And a second one: to make sleep easier, try showing your nervous system that it can relax already during the day.

This month I’ve been in a deep dialogue with my lucid dreams. I’ve been asking the question “How can I help more people discover Dreamsome?”

I’ve been shown clues, and had strategic meetings with my dream characters. When they say founders work 24/7, some of us work even in our dreams 😅

Last week a dream character named Mojito gave me a priceless clue - to share more of my personal struggles and transformations. Not just on the surface, no. The real stuff.

It kickstarted the creative process early in the morning, and here I was writing this month’s newsletter.

After all, the Dreamsome journey is very personal to me.

I was looking for a remedy that would help me heal the shattered pieces in me, and alleviate the constant ache inside. You know that moment when you start going to every breathwork class you can, attend voice activation, ecstatic dance, don’t miss a single therapy session just to feel a tiny bit better, and still need something more?

That’s been me 3 years ago, and to be honest my whole life until then, too. Just without the breathwork.

Oh and how dangerous did my own dreamspace look back then. Uff.

Slowly, by practicing more courage inside the dreams, looking at my shadow and communing with my Dreamer, it started to change. The biggest shift I went through last year was when my father figure stopped yelling at me in my dreams.

It didn’t happen overnight. More like a whole year of systematic work with dreams, of talking to my therapist, and of willingness to face him in a new way. The last bit did happen overnight though. When I had a lucid dream, we had a deep conversation, in which we both apologized to each other. It healed a broken piece inside of me. Since then, he shows up in my dreams as a supportive dad I always wished I had.

On top of that, the same Mojito character gave me ideas for my social media, and had helped me create the most successful piece of content to date.

I’m not talking about millions of views here (yet), but simply something that worked and started to create the snowball effect. Feel free to check it out here.

This Monday I hosted a free lucid dreaming Q&A and launched the sales of my 4-week lucid dreaming course.

This is an essay about lucid dreaming, based entirely on my personal experience.

I’ve practiced lucid dreaming for quite a few years at this point. They came to me rather naturally… However, the degree of my influence varied.

Sometimes I could manifest objects easily and leap towards the sky with a power of thought. I would have profound dreams, blissful experiences, deep trauma integrations.

Other times, I felt restricted and powerless. I would walk around the dream aimlessly or shout towards the sky of my dreams, with no success. This powerlessness seemed to have progressed the further I got.

Feeling frustrated, I sought out guidance from my inner wisdom.

In a lucid dream, I summoned a sage persona.

“Why can’t I influence my dreams so much lately?”, I asked

“A protective mechanism has been put into place to reduce your powers”, she replied

“Why?”, I asked

“We need to protect you because you often tend to make things worse”, was her reply.

Ouch.

At that time I was finishing the Lucid Dreaming Facilitator Training with my teacher, Charlie Morley.

One of the participants was making offerings to Morpheus, the God of dreams, in her waking life, which later manifested in her dreams, which then again manifested in her waking life, creating an intertwined relationship between the dream and the waking.

Listening to her’s and others’ experiences inspired me to reinvent my own relationship with the Dreamer.

I met my Dreamer once before already.

She appeared as a traveller, wearing a brown aviator helmet and huge goggles. She smelled of adventure. Her energy was contagious.

It’s hard to explain in words, but her presence gave me a feeling that she had access to all of the knowledge I ever received.

She told me that “The Dreamer is a continuous process that stitches day and night”.

Back then, the encounter made my confidence in lucid dreams return.

Now, I needed her help again.

And given what she told me, I didn’t have to wait for a lucid dream to communicate with her.

I could do it right here, right now.

So, I started simple. I wrote a diary entry, asking the Dreamer to come and teach me how I can act in my dreams for my benefit, and not to make things worse.

“Dear dreamer, I know you can hear me. Please show me my powers in the dream and teach me how to use them wisely. Please gift me a lucid dream where we meet and I can learn from you”

I even promised to write an essay to honor the gift. This is it.

This might sound whoo-whoo of course, but actually it’s called dream incubation.

60% of dream content consists of events and thoughts from the previous days, therefore it’s possible to consciously feed the mind with ideas we want to dream of.

Upon writing the dream entry, I made a dream plan and was very persistent about it, yet tried to remain humble.

I got lucid pretty soon, and made an offering to the Dreamer. I manifested flowers growing from everywhere, including my own hands (which was tickly). The manifestation happened rather effortlessly this time, which made me even happier.

Then I called for the Dreamer to come and help me.

The next moment, Brad Pitt appears.

He starts to teach me a lesson about fighting, explaining it with his fingers.

He said, “You see, when your stance is weak and you lack confidence, it’s easy to knock you out of balance”, and showed a weak hand position,

“However, when your stance is strong and grounded, you can’t be knocked out”, he shows a strong finger position.

I think to myself, “but why are you Brad Pitt?!”.

That second I realize, it IS the Dreamer. I bow and thank him for the lesson.

He says, “I’m always here for you, whenever you need me.”

I knew this lesson to be true, but as you will see now, I still struggled to embody it.

In the next dream, I wanted to connect with the Dreamer again, but offer light instead of flowers.

This time, I was struggling to manifest enough light, so the dream became a practice ground. I asked the Dreamer to show me how to have more of that confidence ‘Brad Pitt’ told me about.

From the back of the room I heard a crowd, led by a teacher, practicing throwing fire from the palms of their hands.

I approached them and asked to join as a student.

The teacher fixed my posture, told me to plant my feet more firmly on the ground, and stretch my arms out in front of me.

Similar to the position the Brad Pitt Dreamer was showing me with his fingers.

I tried, but I didn’t get fire streams from my hands like the other students, my palms only started to lightly glow.

My teacher said it was good - I already have what it takes, I only need to feel more fire around my solar plexus.

I took note and decided to read more about the solar plexus center upon waking up.

Instantly, the Manipura chakra came up.

The chakra of confidence, personal power, manifestation and abundance. Also, linked to the element of… fire.

I took this as a lesson that stitched the night and day. I did a meditation in the waking, and repeated a mudra from that meditation in the dream.

A man showed up, swayed me off the ground in a dance, helping me completely relax in his hands, while beautiful mantra music was playing in the background.

It was such a beautiful and light dream, I realized there was something involved with trust and letting go… so, in my very un-controlling nature I decided to strengthen my trust with the Dreamer.

I asked to be shown a dream that would make me feel trust.

What happened next was exactly the opposite… And was rather disturbing. Two dream characters tried to violate me.

Then, they asked me to stand on my fours.

I was confused, scared, and on guard. I protested and told one of the characters that I don’t understand why this is happening… I wasn’t asking for THIS.

I was brought a puzzle piece and told I will understand later.

It didn’t make much sense, and in the next lucid dream I decided to rephrase my request. I asked the dreamer to show me safety.

The room I was in became darker and darker, I felt a strong ghost-like presence, and the fear creeped in.

I objected and asked for safety again, almost demanding it.

A figure in white appeared, and looked rather annoyed at me. It said, “you see, dreams are like 4 train tracks.. and you only want to stay on one track. But tonight is the learning night.”

In spite of my resistance, I had a glimpse of understanding.

Surrendering, I asked, “ but does it at least make me…”

Before I finished, the figure did…

“resilient”, it answered. “It makes you resilient.”

That moment I understood that asking for safety gave me the exact opposite so that I myself could transmute it, by staying in the discomfort with love and compassion.

That revelation was ground-breaking for me, and the puzzle piece now made sense.

And yet, next came a period of unprecedentedly rare lucidity and unrealized dream plans.

To be frank, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted or could handle more of those “learning nights”…

They were quite tough and demanding, and my daytime seemed to have enough lessons on its own.

The Dreamer was right, I did like the fun and inspiring train tracks quite a bit more.

In that time, there were a couple of dreams that seemed unrelated at first, but after a closer look I realized they were there to teach me something too.

One night, after an unsatisfying pursuit of a dream plan, a dream character came to me and said “Help me. After all, I’m a part of you”

She was a character from an earlier dream I was witnessing through her eyes, which I dropped as soon as I got lucid. The dream character, played by no less than Gillian Anderson, was sick with cancer. She was supposed to go to a clinic, but her husband forgot to pick her up, so she got mad at him and decided to go alone.

Now she needed my help to get better. I spent dream ‘days’ trying to figure out what was happening to her, checking the world’s research database, and looking after her.

One ‘morning’ she seemed to have gotten better. She told me, it wasn’t sickness. It was depression, caused by sadness due to her inability to speak vulnerably with her husband.

The dream ended, and I felt really fulfilled to have been taken on a journey with little control but a deep sense of service.

A month later, during brief lucidity, I asked a dream character why lucid dreams are so rare lately.

I didn’t get an answer, only a smile.

“But my dreams still love me, right?”, I asked,

“I am your girl and you are my girl”, she replied.

It warmed me up. The short conversation reminded me why I love my lucid dreams so much. The aha moment of heightened awareness beats it every time. I wanted to experience more of it again, even if it meant occasional discomfort for the sake of growth.

At this point in time, the essay needed to be finished, and I still had no conclusion.

No mind-blowing evidence that my journey was fruitful, that I did anything right, or that sharing my experience would have any value.

I wasn’t sure if trying to become friends with the Dreamer has brought me anywhere.

Sometimes I was completely frustrated with my Dreamer. I think the Dreamer was frustrated with me as well.

Sometimes it ignored me, sometimes gave unexpectedly hard lessons. But rarely did it give me exactly what I wanted.

The lucid dreams at that point were at an all-time low. “Had I screwed it up completely?”, I wondered…

Though I didn’t. I knew my practice had slipped, and my motivation was low. It was a particularly challenging time in my life, and stress seems to make it harder to get lucid.

I noticed that processing strong emotional situations could even make my dreams go into the dark completely.

With little hope, and slightly desperate, I decided to ask the Dreamer to show me an ending to this essay.

The first time I got lucid with this plan, and called for the Dreamer, it did not appear at all. Yet, the figure who caused my distress in the waking life did. As did she almost every time I was gaining lucidity at this point. In fact, she was there in almost every dream I remembered for the past 2 months. This inner conflict was so persistent, all of my psychological energy was directed toward resolving it.

I didn’t give up, and tried again.

I’ll describe exactly what I saw:

I’m outside. I see a golden key flip in the air and fall to the ground. As soon as it drops, I see a device capable of flying, diving and surfing, landing to the surface of a river. I am teleported onto it, and I start riding this device at an enormous speed through the river, experiencing an adrenaline rush I haven’t had in my life. I’m so excited, I try flying on it, and diving into the water. It’s hard to control, but the process of riding it is extremely exciting. The dream ends, I wake up ecstatic.

The Dreamer was so explicit here.

The key is to ride the waves.

There is a notion that lucid dreaming is about controlling dreams, but the reality is co-creation. I’ve been really struggling to master this balance. When I get excited about an idea, I get all in. My determination becomes forceful and maybe even slightly destructive (or at least that’s what I was told in the beginning, haha). When I don’t get exactly what I want - I get frustrated and diminish the whole experience.

Writing this essay helped me realize - it was not a waste. I saw the journey for what it was and the many lessons it brought, which was hard to see in the midst of it.

Now I realize, I was shown the lightness of surrender. Every big lucid dreaming experience I’ve ever had came as a surprise, accompanied by awe and curiosity. And often times a great dose of courage.

Now that my lucid dreams came back, I want to integrate that discovery and continue my exploration. I want to rely on my Dreamer and release control. And trust that my deeper self wants the best for me, even when it’s hard.

this month we’ve had a couple of exciting updates:

1. We launched new exciting features 🎉

2. We hosted a workshop on Sleep Hygiene and Dreamwork for mental well-being at work, in collaboration with Quartering 🌈

It is now possible to filter the dream types in the calendar. That makes it easier to track your lucid dreaming practice, or keep an eye on the nightmares.

The workshop on Sleep Hygiene and Dreamwork was amazing!

The key takeaway: it takes a good day to have a good night of sleep. Taking a moment to slow the mind down during the day will make it much easier to fall and stay asleep at night.

We also talked about various techniques that can be included in the evening and morning routines (dream journaling included) and dived into the benefits of dreamwork. The cherry on the top was an integrated drag performance by our friend, Misha. We’re made in Berlin, after all! 💃

Last but not least,

the German talk “Worüber sprechen unsere Träume?” has led to one of our participants to become pre-lucid the following night. This shows the tremendous power of simply bringing attention to the topic for boosting lucidity. Are you struggling to get lucid? Many dreamers use phone notes to track their dreams, but these often become messy, lack structure, and don’t support meaningful dream tracking.

Other apps?

While researching other dream apps, we noticed that many struggled with usability, especially for such a personal practice. We kept those gaps in mind as we designed ours.

Our key difference?

We don’t provide dream interpretation because for us dreams needs to be experienced and felt, not rationalized.

What are we testing?

We’re testing the usability of the app and catching all technical issues that might come up. We’d love to get your feedback via the form in the settings, as well as follow up surveys and potentially user interviews.

The spring is blooming, and so are we! In this update, we’ll talk about the product launch, 1:1 consultations, and AI dream interpretation.

This month,

We tested our app during the UX testing and found multiple usability issues that we’re currently fixing while preparing full-speed for the launch. We don’t have an exact date yet, but it’s already in the Spring air!

It’s a huge milestone for us. What started as a passion project at the BHT startup bootcamp a year ago has gone on to receive two startup scholarships, onboard Charlie Morley as an advisor, and is now almost ready to launch as an app. This makes me emotional, and I want to thank each one of you for your input that helped shape Dreamsome 💜

1:1 coaching

Last year, I (Margarita) hosted a series of in-person dream sharing events.

Though sometimes it was difficult to attract enough participants, the feedback was heart-warming:

This year, I would like to continue offering occasional dream circles online, while also opening the door for 1:1 consultations.

In sessions with me, you can benefit in multiple ways, depending on your current goals:

• accountability and guidance for your dream work practice

• having a space for emotional exploration and pattern recognition, supported by my Gestalt therapy background

• deepening your lucid dreaming practice

Sessions can be held either in English or Russian.

I’d like to finish with an interesting article I came across that explores the topic of AI dream interpretation. The author found insights from peers more meaningful than those from AI. By the end of the experiment, her dreams completely dissolved, as if they protested the AI.

Here are a couple of snippets:

1. To the developers’ credit, the AI is annoyingly even-keeled: it avoids absolutes, reminds me that dreams have multiple meanings and recommends therapy should my dreams begin to get the better of me. … In contrast, when I share this dream with an in-person community of dream enthusiasts, their insights are genuinely surprising.

2. In the coming days, my dreams cease entirely, giving the eerie sense that my subconscious is on strike, refusing to clock back on until I promise not to sell it out to AI. Unable to conceive of the drudgery of a life without dreams, I delete the app and any trace of my dream data with it. I uploaded my dreams to AI and all I got was the revelation that my subconscious is a tech-averse luddite.

Hello dear Dreamer, and welcome to February’s edition of the Dreamsome newsletter!

Today, I’d like to not only share some updates with you but also propose an intriguing dream date night technique at the end of this email.

On the product side,

we’re continuing to develop our core diary features and fully integrating the voice-to-text transcription. To make sure everything works smoothly, I would like to invite you to an exciting opportunity to be among the very first people to test our actual app.

Another highlight of the month

was Valentine’s Day. We had fun creating this rather dramatic reel,

and signing 100 Valentine’s cards that serve as business cards with a QR code on the back. Some of you might have gotten one of those at Robert Eckstein’s lucid dreaming workshop that happened this month. I’d like to welcome you if you did!

While these cards might seem punchy, our dreams do wait for us every night to communicate important messages, and a dream date night is an actual concept from lucid dreaming. It means setting aside a specific night, on which you intensively practice the techniques for getting lucid, such as multiple wake-ups, for example. Its purpose is to create a ritual around dreaming and reignite excitement for it.

This approach can be useful not only for lucid dreaming but also for deepening your connection with dreams and improving dream recall in general.

So as today’s practice,

I suggest you to plan the next date night with your dreams - whether you’re a lucid dreamer or not.

Here are a couple of suggestions for you, some of which come from the Dream Planner by Florian Divi, and some added by me:

On the night of your choosing,

1. Take a warm relaxing bath or shower before bed (isn’t it nice??)

2. Light candles and incense

3. Slow down or meditate

4. Create an inviting and uncluttered space

5. Read (lucid) dreaming literature

6. Dedicate time to re-read your past dreams and reflect on them

7. Before going to bed, get excited about receiving messages from your subconscious, and repeat “Tonight I will remember my dreams. I have excellent dream recall” directly before falling asleep

8. Place your dream diary next to your bed and be prepared to write down your dreams upon waking up

Extra points for lucid dreamers:

1. Create a dream plan and visualize how it would unfold

2. Plan & execute lucid dreaming techniques of your liking

One of the most frequent questions is: “What if I don’t remember my dreams?”

The answer is simple:

1. Set an intention to remember your dreams before going to bed

2. Write down your dreams as soon as you wake up

Over time, dream recall will build up.
