Which is a little funny...

because I feel like I just moved.

After twenty years in Colorado.

After five acres and horses and a home I once never imagined I could own.

After selling it all and starting over in Florida.

I thought the hard part was moving.

Maybe it wasn’t.

Maybe the harder question is:

What am I actually trying to gain… and what am I unwilling to lose in the process?

That is a very different question from:

“Which house should I buy?”

And suddenly...

I don’t think I’m wrestling with real estate.

I’m wrestling with what constitutes a successful life.

I’ve spent a lot of my life building things.

Credentials.

A career.

Organizations.

A school.

A home.

Financial security.

A future for my daughter.

I’ve learned how to work hard.

How to figure things out.

How to rebuild.

How to make something out of very little.

How to create stability when stability wasn’t handed to me.

And there is nothing inherently wrong with any of that.

In fact, much of it has been beautiful.

But sometimes there comes a moment when you realize:

I know how to build a successful life.

I’m no longer sure I want the life I was taught to call successful.

That realization can feel terrifying.

Because the world’s scorecard is remarkably clear.

Own more.

Earn more.

Accumulate more.

Establish yourself.

Put down roots.

Build equity.

Create security.

Be responsible.

Make the smart investment.

And then...

Keep going.

But what happens when the life that looks successful on paper begins to feel heavier than the life you actually want to live?

What happens when freedom starts looking more valuable than square footage?

When experiences become more compelling than possessions?

When the ocean calls louder than the perfectly optimized floor plan?

When you begin wondering whether home has to be something you own?

This is where Scripture interrupted my thinking.

A friend sent me a Bible study this week centered on Mark 8:36:

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?”

I’ve heard this verse countless times.

But sometimes Scripture meets you differently depending on the season you’re in. That’s why they call it “The Living Word.”

This time, it spoke to me and I couldn’t stop thinking about the word gain.

What am I trying to gain?

And what am I unwilling to lose in the process?

Jesus wasn’t giving us an argument against houses.

Or money.

Or careers.

Or achievement.

He was asking us to examine the exchange.

What are we gaining?

And what is it costing us?

Because we can gain the house...

and lose our peace.

Gain the title...

and lose our health.

Gain the money...

and lose our relationships.

Gain the security...

and lose our sense of adventure.

Gain the approval...

and lose ourselves.

Gain the whole world...

and lose our soul.

That changes the question completely.

Maybe the question isn’t:

“What should I do?”

Maybe the deeper question is:

“Who am I becoming while I do it?”

That question has been following me.

Because I’ve also been thinking about the years I’ve spent believing that stability meant putting down deeper roots.

A permanent home.

A permanent community.

A predictable path.

A carefully constructed future.

And perhaps those things are wonderful.

But they are not the only way to build a meaningful life.

My daughter has spent years asking me:

“What do YOU want?”

And I have often had an answer for everyone else.

What she needs.

What the horses need.

What work needs.

What the future requires.

What makes financial sense.

What is responsible.

What is practical.

What protects everyone from uncertainty.

But what do I want?

That question is harder.

Because wanting something for yourself can feel selfish when you’ve spent your life taking care of everyone else.

And yet...

perhaps stewardship includes being honest about the life God has given you.

Not just protecting it.

Living it.

Romans 12:2 says:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

I’ve always thought about that verse as a call to think differently.

But perhaps it is also a call to define success differently.

What if the world says:

More is better.

And God asks:

More of what?

What if the world says:

Put down roots.

And God asks:

What are you rooted in?

What if the world says:

Build a life that looks successful.

And God asks:

Is it a life that is actually alive?

What if the world says:

Protect yourself from uncertainty.

And God says:

Trust Me in it.

I’m not suggesting that everyone should sell their house and move to the beach.

Please don’t do that because I said so. 😂

I’m saying something much more uncomfortable:

We should be willing to question the scorecard.

Maybe your “house” isn’t a house.

Maybe it’s a job you’ve outgrown.

A relationship you’re afraid to release.

A title.

An identity.

A business model.

A financial goal.

A neighborhood.

A lifestyle.

A version of yourself that once kept you safe.

Something you worked very hard to build...

that you are now wondering whether you’re still meant to carry.

And maybe the invitation isn’t necessarily to let it go.

Maybe the invitation is simply to hold it with an open hand.

Because there is a difference between stewardship and attachment.

Stewardship asks:

“How can I care well for what I’ve been given?”

Attachment asks:

“How can I make sure I never lose this?”

One requires wisdom.

The other is often rooted in fear.

I don’t know yet whether I’ll sell my home.

I don’t know whether I’ll move closer to the ocean.

I don’t know whether Sarasota, Saint Augustine, Ocala, or somewhere I haven’t even considered will become home.

And I’m beginning to realize...

I don’t have to know yet.

Maybe the next faithful step isn’t about having the perfect plan.

Maybe it’s about creating enough space to hear.

Space to notice.

Space to explore.

Space to breathe.

Space to ask better questions.

Space to let God surprise me.

Because perhaps peace isn’t the feeling we get when we finally know what to do.

Perhaps peace is what becomes possible when we stop demanding that we know.

🏡 The Soul Inventory

This week, I invite you to take a different kind of inventory.

Not your bank account.

Not your home value.

Not your accomplishments.

Your soul.

Find one area of your life where you’re asking:

“What should I do?”

And pause long enough to ask something deeper.

💰 What am I trying to gain?

Security?
Freedom?
Recognition?
Love?
Control?
Belonging?
Success?

Name it honestly.

❤️ What am I unwilling to lose?

Your health?
Your marriage?
Your children?
Your faith?
Your joy?
Your creativity?
Your peace?
Your sense of self?

This question may reveal more than the first one.

⚖️ What is the exchange?

What would this decision give you?

And what might it quietly cost you?

🙏 What would faith look like?

Not recklessness.

Not avoidance.

Not forcing an answer.

Simply asking:

“God, what would it look like to trust You here?”

🌊 What would a life of enough look like?

Not the life that impresses everyone.

Not the life that checks every box.

Not even necessarily the life that feels safest.

But the life that allows you to remain connected to God, to yourself, and to the people you love.

What would enough look like?

Maybe that’s the shift I’m experiencing.

I used to think success meant building a life that could withstand anything.

Now I’m wondering if success might look more like building a life that allows me to live fully within whatever comes.

A life with enough stability to feel safe...

and enough freedom to stay curious.

Enough roots to feel grounded...

and enough flexibility to grow.

Enough possessions to hold memories...

and enough openness to make new ones.

Enough planning to be wise...

and enough faith to leave room for God.

Because maybe the goal isn’t to gain the whole world.

Maybe the goal is to build a life in which we don’t have to lose ourselves to have it.

And perhaps that is the question beneath every major decision:

What am I actually trying to gain… and what am I unwilling to lose in the process?

Take a breath.

You don’t have to answer it all today.

Just let the question find you.

Sometimes...

the shift begins with a better question.

🕊️ This Week’s commUNITY Prayer Circle

One of the hardest things about transition is that we often want God to give us a map.

A five-year plan.

A guarantee.

A sign.

A confirmation that we are making the “right” decision.

But perhaps faith is not always receiving the map.

Perhaps it is learning to recognize the next step.

This week, let’s pray for the courage to release the scorecards that were never ours.

Let’s pray for:

🕊️ Those standing at a crossroads.

🕊️ Those questioning what success means in this season.

🕊️ Those making difficult financial or family decisions.

🕊️ Those who are afraid that changing direction means they have failed.

🕊️ Those learning to distinguish wisdom from fear.

🕊️ And those who need permission to want something different.

May we have the wisdom to steward what God has given us...

the courage to release what we have outgrown...

and the faith to trust what we cannot yet see.

“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?”

— Mark 8:36

God, help us remember that our lives are more valuable than our possessions, our souls more valuable than our status, and Your presence more valuable than our certainty.

Show us what we are trying to gain.

Show us what we are afraid to lose.

And teach us how to build lives that are not merely successful...

but faithful, joyful, and alive.

Amen.

That was the story.

After cancer...
After losing the job I loved...
After wondering how I would rebuild life… again.

It made perfect sense.

Find a place where Gigi could pursue her dreams.
Find a commUNITY where she could build a career.
Create a future if I wasn’t here to help her.

As a single mom, those thoughts never felt dramatic.

They felt responsible.

When you’ve been abandoned while pregnant...
When you’ve spent years carrying the weight of two parents...
You don’t just plan for tomorrow.

You plan for every possible tomorrow.

Looking back, I can see how much of that was love...

and how much of it was fear.

Both can move us.

But they don’t tell the same story.

This week, I found myself looking through photos of Gigi with people in their seventies and eighties.

Horse people.

Car people.

Neighbors.

Mentors.

Friends.

People from completely different walks of life.

Different generations.
Different backgrounds.
Different stories.

Yet every single picture carried the same message.

They love her.

Suddenly I realized...

Maybe we never came here just for horses.

Maybe God was quietly building something much larger.

Not simply an equestrian future.

A multigenerational family.

One of the most powerful skills we can develop isn’t positive thinking.

It’s perspective shifting.

The facts may stay exactly the same.

Only the lens changes.

Edward de Bono wrote about looking at problems from multiple perspectives instead of becoming trapped in one way of thinking.

Scripture teaches something remarkably similar.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

Transformation begins with learning to think differently.

One perspective says,

“I had to move because everything fell apart.”

Another says,

“I was redirected because something better was being built.”

One perspective says,

“I’m raising an unconventional teenager.”

Another says,

“Perhaps every generation has someone brave enough to redraw the map.”

My mother was an outlier.

She became the first in her family to attend college.

I became an outlier too.

No inheritance.
No financial safety net.
No one depositing money into my account.

Just one decision after another.

At one point, lived in my Honda Civic.

Years later...

I stood in a 5,800-square-foot home on five acres overlooking the Rocky Mountains.

A home I never imagined owning.

Not because life was easy.

Because perspective kept turning obstacles into opportunities.

Now I watch Gigi forging her own unconventional path.

She doesn’t fit neatly into society’s expectations.

Neither did I.

Perhaps the very qualities we worry about in our children become the qualities that change the world.

Maybe that’s what wisdom really is.

Not finding the right answer.

Learning to hold multiple perspectives long enough to discover a deeper truth.

Sometimes the thing we thought was the destination...

was simply the road.

Sometimes the horse isn’t the story.

Love is.

CommUNITY is.

Generations are.

Sometimes God is building something so much larger than the reason we thought we came.

And perhaps that is the invitation...

To pause long enough to ask:

What if there is another way to see this story?

What if the obstacle is also an opportunity?
What if the ending is actually a beginning?
What if the thing we thought we lost is making room for something we could never have imagined?

The shift doesn’t always happen when our circumstances change.

Sometimes the shift happens when we change the lens through which we see them.

👓 Try on Another Lens

Transformation rarely begins by changing our circumstances.

More often, it begins by changing the questions we ask.

This week, I’d love to invite you into a simple practice.

Think of one situation in your life that feels heavy, frustrating, or uncertain. Then, instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” try looking at it through a different lens.

👧 The Child’s Lens

What would someone filled with curiosity notice? What possibilities still exist that you’ve stopped seeing?

👩 The Parent’s Lens

What is being nurtured, protected, or developed through this experience?

👵 The Elder’s Lens

If you were looking back on this moment twenty years from now, what wisdom might you discover? Will this matter as much as it feels today?

🔬 The Scientist’s Lens

What are the facts? What assumptions am I making? What evidence might I be missing?

🌱 The Leader’s Lens

How might this challenge prepare me to encourage, serve, or guide someone else someday?

🙏 God’s Lens

If love (not fear) were writing this chapter, what might God be building that I simply cannot see yet?

You don’t have to force an answer.

Sometimes the miracle isn’t finding certainty.

Sometimes it’s discovering that there is more than one true way to see the same story.

And often...

that’s where peace begins.

🕊️ This Week’s commUNITY Prayer Circle

One of the greatest gifts God gives us is each other.

We were never meant to carry life’s burdens alone.

As I looked through photos this week of Gigi surrounded by people from different generations, I was reminded of something powerful:

We may never fully know the impact we have on another person’s story.

A kind word.
A moment of encouragement.
A shared passion.
A prayer whispered on someone’s behalf.

These moments become part of a much bigger story than we can see.

This week, I invite our commUNITY to pray bold prayers.

Let’s pray for:

🕊️ The people in our children’s lives.
🕊️ The neighbors God has placed around us.
🕊️ The mentors who pour wisdom into the next generation.
🕊️ The friends carrying unseen burdens.

“Only God could have orchestrated this”?

Not because it was flashy.

Not because it was perfectly planned.

But because somehow, through different people, different stories, and different moments…

something beautiful came together.

This week, I found myself reflecting on the power of collaboration.

I listened to a worship collaboration that brought together voices from different backgrounds and different journeys, united around something bigger than themselves: glorifying God.

And I couldn’t stop thinking about how much this reflects the heart of our Creator.

Different voices.

Different stories.

One song.

And isn’t that exactly what God has been doing since the beginning?

God has never been a God of uniformity.

He is a God of unity.

There is a difference.

Uniformity says:

“Become like me.”

Unity says:

“Bring what God placed inside you, and let’s create something greater together.”

God did not create us to erase our uniqueness.

He created us to contribute our uniqueness.

Paul writes:

“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.”
Romans 12:4–5 (NLT)

Maybe that’s the shift we’re invited into:

From competition to collaboration.

From comparison to contribution.

From asking, “How can I stand out?”

To asking, “How can I faithfully add my voice to what God is already creating?”

Because our gifts were never meant to exist only for ourselves.

They were designed to bless others.

A single voice can be beautiful.

But harmony reveals something deeper.

A single instrument can create a melody.

But an orchestra reveals the masterpiece.

And perhaps that is why collaboration feels so powerful.

Because it reflects something eternal.

Love was never meant to exist alone.

The Divine Collaboration We Could Never Plan

This idea became especially personal for me this week as I celebrated Gigi’s 16th birthday.

When I look back, I can see a thread of divine collaboration woven through a story I never could have planned.

It began in the most ordinary way…

At a Porsche dealership.

My car was being serviced, and what could have simply been an appointment on a calendar became the beginning of a relationship that would bless our lives in ways I never expected.

Through that moment, God introduced us to two beautiful people who have become like adopted grandparents to us.

A gift I never knew to ask for.

A relationship I never could have scheduled.

A blessing I could never have imagined.

And then, on Gigi’s exact 16th birthday, something happened that stopped me in my tracks.

We were sitting at dinner together, celebrating this incredible milestone.

A moment filled with reflection.

A moment filled with gratitude.

A moment marking the transition of my daughter stepping into a new season of life.

And then…

A cherished horsewoman named Linda walked through the restaurant.

Linda, who has loved Gigi well.

Linda, who has encouraged her journey with horses.

Linda, who has been part of the village helping shape the young woman Gigi is becoming.

Of all the restaurants.

Of all the tables.

Of all the moments.

She walked right toward the corner where we were seated.

On that exact day.

At that exact time.

During that exact celebration.

Was it coincidence?

Someone could call it that.

But I’ve learned to pay attention to the moments that feel like God gently reminding us:

“I am here.”

“I see you.”

“I am weaving something you could never have planned.”

Because maybe that is what divine collaboration looks like.

Not always a dramatic miracle.

Sometimes it looks like the right person appearing at the right moment with the right reminder that you are loved.

Sometimes it looks like God quietly arranging the details while we are simply living our lives.

Sometimes the greatest blessings are the ones we never knew to pray for.

Some blessings cannot be scheduled. They can only be received.

When We Stop Trying to Conduct the Entire Orchestra

I think about how often we approach life like solo performers.

We carry our families.

Our careers.

Our healing.

Our dreams.

Our fears.

We exhaust ourselves trying to conduct the entire orchestra.

But what if God never asked us to be the conductor?

What if He simply asked us to listen for His direction and faithfully contribute our part?

That requires something many of us struggle with:

Surrender.

Trust.

The willingness to believe that God’s plan is greater than our ability to control every detail.

The lilies do not strive.

The branches do not force fruit.

They simply remain connected to the One who gives them life.

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.”
John 15:4 (NLT)

Maybe that is the invitation.

Not to create the entire masterpiece ourselves.

But to remain connected to the Artist.

To listen.

To trust.

To participate.

And then to witness what He creates.

This Week’s Inhale

Before you begin your day…

Before your responsibilities start calling your name…

Pause.

Take a slow breath.

And ask:

“Lord, where are You inviting me to collaborate with You today?”

Then listen.

Notice.

Pay attention.

Who is God placing in your path?

What conversation feels divinely timed?

What moment feels like an invitation to slow down and recognize His presence?

Because God is always creating.

And sometimes the greatest shift happens when we stop trying to write the entire song…

and simply join the One who is already singing.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Shirley

As she carries the tender anniversary of losing her daughter, may God surround Shirley with comfort, peace, and reminders that love never disappears.

Heavenly Father,

Today, I lift up Shirley into Your loving hands.

You know that anniversaries carry a weight that words cannot fully express. They awaken memories, stir deep places in our hearts, and remind us how profoundly we have loved.

Today, as we remember Shirley’s sweet daughter, surround Shirley with Your presence. Let her feel that she is not walking through this day alone.

Wrap her in Your perfect peace, the peace that surpasses all understanding. Where there is sorrow, breathe comfort. Where there is longing, bring the assurance that love never disappears, because You are the Author of love itself.

Thank You for the beautiful light Shirley carries into the lives of so many. Through her kindness, her brave spirit, and the care she gives to others, she reflects Your heart in countless ways.

Bless the hands that serve, the heart that comforts, and the soul that continues to shine, even after walking through unimaginable loss.

May the memories of her precious daughter be held with tenderness today. Let those memories bring not only tears, but also gratitude for a love so deep that it continues to echo through time.

Remind Shirley that every life entrusted to You is forever held in Your eternal care.

When grief feels heavy, be her strength. When silence feels loud, let Your voice whisper hope. When tears fall, collect every one of them, just as Your Word promises.

May Your light shine upon her today, not to erase the pain, but to gently illuminate every step forward.

Fill her heart with reminders of Your faithfulness, surround her with people who love her well, and let her experience the comfort of Your everlasting arms.

Lord, thank You for Shirley’s beautiful heart. Continue to use her as a vessel of grace, compassion, and joy.

Renew her spirit, restore her hope, and let her know how deeply she is loved… by You and by all those whose lives she has touched.

In the precious name of Jesus,

🙏🏽 Prayer for CJ

As he enters a season of growth, fatherhood, and deeper surrender, may God strengthen his faith, renew his mind, and prepare him to lead with wisdom, humility, and love.

Heavenly Father,

Today I lift up CJ to You with gratitude for the season You have him in.

While his boys are away, I pray that this would not simply become time to pass, but holy time to be transformed.

Thank You for stirring in his heart a desire to work on himself. May that desire become an invitation to work with You.

Lord, Your Word says, “Abide in Me, and I in you... apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4–5)

Draw CJ into that abiding relationship.

May he hunger for Your presence more than distraction, Your truth more than entertainment, and Your voice more than the noise of the world.

When he has quiet moments, remind him that they are opportunities to open his Bible, worship, pray, listen, and be renewed by Your Spirit.

As Romans 12:2 teaches, transform him by the renewing of his mind so that he may discern Your good, pleasing, and perfect will.

Father, shape him into the man You have called him to be long before You bring the woman You have chosen for him.

Cultivate in him the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Build integrity when no one is watching, humility that welcomes correction, and wisdom that comes from walking closely with You.

Prepare his heart to love his future wife as Christ loves the church; not through striving, but through daily surrender to You.

Teach him that the strongest marriages are built by two people who are each first rooted in You.

Lord, I also pray over his precious boys.

May every moment CJ spends growing in You become a blessing that overflows into their lives.

Help him to be a father whose words bring life, whose presence provides security, and whose example points them toward Jesus.

Give him wisdom to lead with both strength and tenderness, showing them what it looks like to walk faithfully with You.

Bless him in his work as well.

Help him serve with excellence, humility, and integrity.

Let his character be evident in every interaction, making him a trustworthy teammate and a light wherever You have placed him.

Your Word reminds us:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33

Keep CJ’s eyes fixed on that promise.

May he trust that as he pursues You wholeheartedly, You are faithfully preparing every part of his future in Your perfect timing.

May this season become one he looks back on with gratitude; not because it was easy, but because it was where You deepened his faith, strengthened his character, and prepared him for every good work You have planned.

We entrust CJ into Your loving hands, confident that:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6

In the mighty name of Jesus,

🙏🏽 Prayer for Liana

As she shares laughter and freedom through her teaching, may God use her joy to bring healing, connection, and hope to those she serves.

Heavenly Father,

Today we lift up Liana before You with grateful hearts.

Thank You for the joy she carries, the hope she awakens, and the laughter that so naturally flows from her life.

Thank You for making laughter a gift that reminds us of Your goodness and faithfulness.

As she teaches today, may Your Spirit go before her.

Fill her with wisdom, clarity, and compassion.

Let every word she speaks be filled with grace, every story carry purpose, and every moment create space for healing and freedom.

Your Word says:

“Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with joyful shouting.”
Psalm 126:2

May that promise come alive today.

Let laughter become more than a response… let it become a reminder that You restore, redeem, and renew.

Just as Sarah declared:

“God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”
Genesis 21:6

For a beloved horse entering his final season, and for Kim and his owner who are loving him faithfully.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the Creator of every living thing.

Your Word tells us that You delight in all You have made, that not a sparrow falls outside of Your care, and that You preserve both people and animals.

Today we bring before You Your beloved creation, Popeye.

Thank You for the years You have given him… for every ride, every gentle nuzzle, every lesson he has taught, every burden he has faithfully carried, and every smile he has inspired.

Thank You for the quiet ministry of a horse: the way they steady anxious hearts, teach courage, cultivate patience, and remind us of Your strength wrapped in gentleness.

Lord, as Popeye enters the final season of his earthly life, surround him with Your peace.

Let these days be filled with comfort instead of pain, strength for each sunrise, soft pasture beneath his feet, nourishing hay, cool water, gentle breezes, and restful nights.

Protect him from suffering and let him know only kindness from every hand that touches him.

Bless Kim in a special way.

Thank You for giving her such a compassionate heart to faithfully watch over Popeye while his owner is away.

Strengthen her as she checks on him, notices the little things, and loves him so well.

Give her wisdom to recognize every need, discernment to know when to act, and the quiet assurance that her care is a beautiful expression of Your own heart.

Be especially near to Popeye’s owner.

Though distance separates them, love does not.

Calm every anxious thought and replace worry with peace that comes from trusting You.

Give her confidence that Popeye is surrounded by caring hands and watchful eyes until she can be with him again.

As she speaks life and healing over her body, mind, and spirit, may God bring restoration, strength, peace, and renewed hope.

Heavenly Father,

We come boldly before Your throne of grace, grateful that You are Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals.

You are the Creator of every cell, every organ, every system, and every breath.

Nothing happening in Ambereen’s body is beyond Your knowledge, Your compassion, or Your power.

Today, we speak life over her.

Father, let every part of her body come into the divine order and harmony You designed from the beginning.

We ask for healing at the cellular level.

Restore balance where there is imbalance, repair what is damaged, strengthen what is weak, and awaken every healing process You have woven into her body.

We pray over her endocrine system, metabolism, blood sugar, cholesterol, hormones, and every biochemical pathway.

Let inflammation be quieted, nutrient deficiencies be replenished, and her body respond as You designed it to.

Restore her gut, nourish her microbiome, heal what needs healing, and bring restoration from the inside out.

Lord, calm her mind and quiet every anxious thought.

Your Word says:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7

We reject fear and discouragement.

May Your perfect peace guard her heart and mind.

Jesus, we thank You for the cross.

Your Word declares:

“Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering... and by His wounds we are healed.”

We stand on that promise today.

Increase her faith.

Surround her with wise counsel and loving community.

May this season become a testimony of Your faithfulness, Your presence, and Your glory.

We declare that sickness does not have the final word.

Heavenly Father,

You are the Creator of every living creature, and nothing You have made is beyond Your loving care.

Today we lift up sweet Jack into Your hands.

Lord, if he has eaten something that could harm him, we ask that You protect his body.

Calm his stomach, remove anything that doesn’t belong, and restore him to full health.

Let every system in his body work exactly as You designed it to.

Give him strength, comfort, and peaceful rest.

We also pray for Jack’s family.

You know the worry weighing on their hearts and the financial burden they are carrying.

Replace their fear with Your peace that surpasses all understanding.

Give them wisdom to know what to do next, provide the resources they need, and remind them that You are near.

Thank You for the joy, companionship, and unconditional love that Jack has brought into their home.

We ask for many more happy days together.

We trust Jack into Your loving care, believing that You see him, You know him, and You are able to do more than we can ask or imagine.

Lord, as Ron meets with his friend and cardiologist, go before him.

Give wisdom, discernment, and clarity to everyone involved.

Let every result be interpreted accurately, every question answered thoughtfully, and every next step guided by Your hand.

Father, we remember:

There are the problems of this world, but there are also the promises of Your Word.

We choose not to ignore reality, but neither do we allow it to become greater than Your promises.

Lord, surround Ron with supernatural peace.

Jesus, we know that by Your wounds we are healed.

We are grateful for the blood You shed for us on the cross.

We ask for divine healing and peace that surpasses all understanding.

Help Ron rest deeply, knowing that You neither slumber nor sleep.

Fill him with courage, confidence, and hope rooted not in circumstances but in Christ.

We trust You with what we know, and we trust You with what we do not yet know.

For You are good.

You are faithful.

You are near.

And Your promises are greater than our problems.

It’s figuring out how to live afterward.

Maybe your crisis wasn’t cancer.

Maybe it was a divorce.

A layoff.

A season of burnout.

The loss of someone you loved.

Or perhaps you’ve spent years caring for everyone else, only to wake up one morning wondering where you went.

We prepare people for the battle.

We celebrate when they make it through.

But almost no one prepares us for what comes next.

The sleepless nights.

The shifting priorities.

The strange realization that you’ve changed... but the world expects you to be the same.

I wonder if you’ve felt that too.

This week, I had a meeting on my calendar with a woman named Leah.

On paper, it was a work meeting.

Leah had recently returned to Better Together and already had a reputation as a rockstar. She reached out to “pick my brain,” and I couldn’t wait to meet her.

Within minutes, it became something else entirely.

As we shared our stories, the conversation found its way to cancer, faith, leadership, and the unexpected ways suffering reshapes us.

Then Leah shared something that resonated deeply with me.

She described a season when her cortisol levels were constantly elevated. She had been given an enormous responsibility with extraordinary consequences. If she failed, it wouldn’t just affect her job, it could impact an entire team.

Her body lived as though every day was an emergency.

Later, as she prepared someone else to step into the role, she noticed something fascinating.

This leader responded to the same situation without sounding the alarm.

The circumstances hadn’t changed.

The work hadn’t disappeared.

But she didn’t carry a constant alarm inside her head.

The difference wasn’t the situation.

It was the story her nervous system was telling.

That conversation stayed with me because it echoed something I’ve been learning about burnout.

Our minds and bodies don’t develop patterns of chronic stress overnight, and they don’t unlearn them overnight either. We can spend years training ourselves to believe everything is urgent, so it makes sense that healing rarely happens over one vacation, one bubble bath, or one long weekend.

Maybe that’s why so many of us become discouraged.

We expect ourselves to recover quickly from burdens we’ve carried for years.

But perhaps God never intended healing to be rushed.

Perhaps it was always meant to be cultivated.

Then, after our shared stories stirred something deep in both of us, Leah asked if she could pray for me.

Her words awakened my courage.

She didn’t pray first that my body would be healed.

She prayed that I would not be gripped by fear over what the cells in my body may or may not be doing.

Her prayer was so beautiful that when our meeting ended, I opened my journal and wrote as much as I could remember… I captured a prayer to recalibrate my heart every morning before the world tells it another story.

Leah prayed that I would notice...

…the blades of grass beneath my feet.

…the swish of my daughter’s horse’s tail.

…the Spanish moss hanging from the oak trees.

…the way the sunlight catches my daughter’s hair.

As she prayed, I immediately thought of Jesus.

“Look at the birds.”

“Consider the lilies.”

The Greek word translated consider (katamathete) means far more than a passing glance. It means to observe carefully, to learn deeply, to pay close attention.

Jesus wasn’t offering a lesson in botany.

He was teaching us how to train our attention.

Fear trains us to scan for danger.

Faith trains us to notice God’s faithfulness.

Then another verse came to mind:

“Abide in me...”

For years, I treated those teachings as unrelated.

Now I wonder if they’re saying the same thing.

The lilies don’t strive.

The branches don’t force fruit.

Neither rushes the process.

They simply remain connected to the One who gives them life.

I’ve realized that’s what changed after cancer.

It wasn’t only my health.

It was my definition of a successful life.

Before cancer, my life was organized around achievement, responsibility, productivity, and momentum.

The life emerging afterward is organized around presence, relationship, beauty, and eternal significance.

Those aren’t competing values.

They simply require a different pace.

Not because I’ve become less ambitious.

Because I’m learning that fruit grows differently than accomplishments.

Accomplishments are often earned through striving.

Fruit is cultivated through abiding.

Maybe that’s what Shift Happens has been teaching me all along.

Sometimes the greatest shift isn’t in our circumstances.

It’s in the story we choose to believe.

The story that says everything depends on us...

Or the story that reminds us we are already held by the One who invites us to consider the lilies, abide in the Vine, and trust Him with tomorrow.

This Week’s Inhale

Before you reach for your phone tomorrow morning...

Before you check your email...

Before your to-do list begins telling you who you need to be...

Pause.

Take one slow breath.

Then notice five beautiful things.

The morning light.

The sound of birds.

The warmth of your coffee.

The laughter of someone you love.

The quiet evidence that God is still holding the world together.

Because what we pay attention to shapes the story we live.

Let’s inhale, together, and pray in commUNITY. 🕊️

This week I’d love for our little commUNITY to pray for someone we’ve never met.

Her name is Kelly.

She’s courageously living with stage IV melanoma while raising three young children. And like so many navigating life after serious illness, she’s discovering that dying is sometimes easier than living… Let’s help her find the strength to keep living with hope.

Would you pray with me?

Heavenly Father,

Today we lift Kelly into Your loving hands.

You know every cell in her body.
You know every sleepless night.
You know the exhaustion that medicine cannot fully explain.
You know the courage it takes simply to wake up and keep going.

Be her peace when fear whispers.
Be her strength when she feels weak.
Be her hope when tomorrow feels uncertain.

Quiet the noise that says she must keep fighting in her own power. Remind her that Your power is made perfect in weakness.

Surround her with people who bring life rather than fear, hope rather than despair, presence rather than pressure.

Give wisdom to those caring for her medically, and give peace that reaches beyond what medicine alone can provide.

Where cancer has stolen energy, restore joy.

Where uncertainty has taken root, plant hope.

Where loneliness whispers, let Your presence speak louder.

And even in difficult days, help her notice small evidences of Your love: a sunrise, a kind voice, a gentle breeze, a moment of laughter, a hand held, a prayer whispered.

May she know that she is never carrying this journey alone.

Wrap her in Your arms. Remind Kelly, and remind us, that nothing can separate us from Your love.

For most of my life, I believed the answer to almost every question could be found through more learning.

More research.
More education.
More evidence.
More data.

After all, I earned a PhD. I’ve spent my career designing learning systems, studying psychology, leadership, neuroscience, organizational behavior, and human performance. I genuinely love understanding how people think, grow, and change.

Logic has served me well.

But over the past few years, I’ve discovered something unexpected.

Logic has limits.

There comes a point where no amount of research can fully answer the questions that matter most.

How do you find peace after cancer?

How do you forgive someone who shattered your heart?

How do you remain hopeful when your circumstances haven’t changed?

How do you comfort a friend whose parent is lying in a hospital bed?

How do you explain the unexplainable peace that somehow arrives before the miracle does?

Science can tell us what is happening.

Sometimes it can even tell us why.

But there are moments when our souls begin asking different questions.

Those questions have quietly led me back to prayer.

Not because I abandoned science.

Because I discovered that faith and science don’t compete, they answer different questions. One helps us understand the mechanics of life. The other helps us discover its meaning.

Lately, it seems I’m not the only one noticing.

Reports suggest that church attendance among younger generations is increasing, and many people who once dismissed faith are beginning to explore it again. I’ve watched thoughtful friends (people I once would have described as deeply analytical, just like me) become unexpectedly curious about Jesus.

One story especially caught my attention.

A young woman known to more than a million followers as a tarot reader walked away from her platform entirely after becoming a Christian. She didn’t announce a rebrand. She didn’t create a new coaching program. She simply said she had found something worth more than the attention, influence, and income she had built.

Then she disappeared.

That kind of decision doesn’t make much sense on paper.

But neither does peace.

Philippians 4:7 describes it as “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.”

Perhaps that’s exactly the point.

For years, I thought transformation came from accumulating more knowledge.

Now I wonder if some of our deepest transformation comes through surrender.

And one of the simplest ways I’ve learned to surrender is through prayer.

Not polished prayers.

Not perfect prayers.

Just honest conversations with God.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself writing prayers for friends facing surgeries, job interviews, long flights, family challenges, healing, and new beginnings.

I’ve learned something beautiful.

People don’t just appreciate knowing someone prayed.

They feel seen.

So today I’d like to share these prayers with you.

Not because my words are special.

But because maybe they can become your words.

Let’s create a ripple effect of prayer!

For Someone Needing Healing

Heavenly Father,
We come before You with grateful hearts, lifting up our brother Samuel into Your loving hands. Thank You for drawing him to Yourself and for the faith You have placed within him. Your Word reminds us that “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.” (Psalm 28:7)

Lord, we ask for complete healing over Samuel’s body. You know every detail of the accident he experienced last year, and You know the journey he has walked since then. We pray for wisdom for his doctors and for favor as they evaluate him. If it is Your will, may he receive the clearance to drive soon, restoring another measure of freedom and independence. Let his recovery be complete, leaving no lingering effects.

Father, we also lift up his new career selling Medicare. Thank You for opening this door. Bless the work of his hands, as Your Word says in Deuteronomy 28:12 that You bless the work of Your people. Bring the right clients across his path; people he can genuinely serve with integrity, compassion, and wisdom. Give him confidence in every conversation, favor with those he meets, and steady growth as he builds his business.

May Samuel never measure success by numbers alone but by faithfulness to You. Let him be a light wherever he goes, reflecting the love, honesty, and hope of Jesus. Fill him daily with the peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

We declare Your promise from Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” May Samuel walk confidently in those plans, trusting that every delay has a purpose and every step is guided by Your hand.

Thank You, Jesus, for being his Provider, his Healer, and his Shepherd. Strengthen his faith, encourage his spirit, and remind him each day that he is deeply loved by You.
In the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen. 🙏🏽💖

For Someone Waiting in a Hospital

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today lifting up Millie into Your loving and capable hands. Your Word tells us that You are “the Lord who heals” (Exodus 15:26), and we stand upon that promise today.

Lord, we thank You for watching over Millie and for ensuring she received medical care when she needed it. We thank You that even in moments of uncertainty, You remain her refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
We pray for her heart, Father. Bring every heartbeat into perfect rhythm according to Your design. Let peace flood her body, mind, and spirit. We speak the words of Psalm 107:20 over her life: “He sent out His word and healed them; He rescued them from the grave.”

We pray for wisdom and discernment for every physician, nurse, technician, and caregiver involved in her care. Guide their decisions and help them identify the root causes of what she is experiencing. May every treatment be effective and every intervention timely.

Lord, if dehydration has contributed to these recurring hospitalizations, we ask for divine insight into what her body needs and for sustainable solutions that support her health and vitality. We pray for strength to return to her body, clarity to her mind, and restoration to every system You created.

We also lift up Dr. Pat. Surround her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). As she waits for updates, guard her heart from fear and anxiety. Remind her that You love her mother even more than she does and that You are present in every hospital room, every conversation, and every outcome.

We declare Isaiah 41:10 over Millie and her family: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

May Your healing presence fill that hospital room. May Your peace settle over this family. May Your goodness be evident in the days ahead.

For Safe Travels

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for Vera, for her tender heart, her nurturing spirit, and the beautiful way she carries love into the lives of others. Thank You for making her a divine protector, someone who brings warmth, peace, wisdom, and light wherever she goes. The way she loves her family and shows up for those around her is such a reflection of Your heart.

As she travels from May 29 through June 13, we ask for Your divine hand of protection over every mile, every flight, every road, every conversation, and every place her feet will touch. Surround her with traveling mercies and place angels before her, beside her, and behind her. May she feel safe, supported, and deeply at peace wherever she goes.

Protect her body, mind, spirit, and energy. Let no fear, heaviness, confusion, or harm come near her dwelling. May discernment guide her decisions and may favor follow her everywhere she lands. Let doors open effortlessly, connections feel aligned, and moments of beauty unexpectedly find her.

Father, refresh her soul during this time. Let this journey not only be travel across distance, but also a remembering of joy, presence, wonder, and belonging. Fill her mornings with peace, her evenings with gratitude, and her heart with the quiet assurance that she is held by You.

May laughter find her often.
May memories be made forever in the hearts of her and her loved ones.
May rest restore her deeply.
May love surround her continuously.
And may she return home even more radiant, renewed, and grounded in the truth of who she is.

For a Job Interview

Father God,
Thank You for the work You are doing in Travis in this season. Thank You that You are not only opening doors around him, but also transforming the man walking through them. Remind him today that his worth is not found in a perfect performance, flawless timing, or external validation, but in who You created him to be.

Give him peace that steadies his mind, wisdom that guides his words, and confidence rooted in authenticity rather than striving. Let him show up today as the most healed, whole, and present version of himself: calm, compassionate, self-aware, and aligned with truth.

We know You delight in the details of our lives. You direct our steps, go before us, and work all things together for good. Even the small agitations can become divine invitations to demonstrate patience, character, humility, resilience, and grace.

Surround him with favor today. Let every conversation unfold exactly as it is meant to. And may he leave this experience not only hopeful about opportunity, but proud of the way he carried himself through it.

May he remember that growth is not just about reaching the next destination, but about becoming the person capable of sustaining it.

For Welcoming Someone New at Work

Lord, thank You for bringing Alexis into this team and into this season. Thank You for the gifts, perspective, wisdom, and presence she carries. In a complex organization where there is so much to learn, navigate, and absorb, I pray that she would feel supported, encouraged, and deeply welcomed every step of the way.

May she never feel like she has to prove her worth to belong here. Instead, may she feel the freedom to grow, ask questions, discover her strengths, and become fully herself within this commUNITY.

I pray for clarity as new pieces begin to connect.
For confidence as she finds her rhythm.
For peace in moments that feel overwhelming.
And for joy in the meaningful work ahead.

Healing.

Protection.

Wisdom.

Peace.

Confidence.

But beneath every request is the same hope:

Maybe that’s what prayer has always been.

Not convincing God to care.

But reminding ourselves that He already does.

There’s a verse that has been following me around lately.

Not in the dramatic, burning-bush sort of way.

More like the way truth quietly sits down beside you and waits for you to notice it.

“Better a meal of vegetables where love is than a fattened ox with hatred.” — Proverbs 15:17

For most of my life, I thought I was chasing the fattened ox.

Not because I was greedy.

Because I was ambitious.

There is a difference.

Or at least that’s what I told myself.

I believed success lived at the edge of my comfort zone.

Take the bigger role.
Carry the heavier responsibility.
Accept the harder challenge.
Climb the next mountain.

And to be fair, that philosophy served me well.

It helped me earn promotions.
Build organizations.
Lead teams.
Create opportunities for my daughter that once felt impossible.

But after cancer, something changed.

Or maybe something was finally revealed.

Because when I re-entered the workforce this year, I cast the widest net of my entire career.

I entertained opportunities I never would have considered before.

A VP of Human Resources role at a large national healthcare organization.

Customer Success positions at technology companies, including one that would have moved me to Toronto.

A wedding event manager role at the World Equestrian Center, which felt delightfully full-circle considering my daughter’s equestrian journey.

And then there was my favorite.

A leadership and career development role serving more than 22,000 employees in a high-demand industry.

The moment I entered those interviews, something happened.

I loved the people.

The conversations felt effortless.

The leaders felt like brothers.

The work lived so deeply inside my experience that I could have done it in my sleep.

And after everything my body had endured, that mattered more than I wanted to admit.

Because cancer doesn’t just attack your body.

Sometimes it attacks your confidence.

For the first time in my life, I found myself wanting something I had never prioritized before:

I wanted to feel good at something again.

Not exceptional.

Not extraordinary.

Just capable.

Comfortably capable.

My ego loved that role.

And honestly?

Part of me still does.

But somewhere during that season, I began noticing something.

The opportunities that impressed me most weren’t necessarily the ones that gave me the most peace.

And that realization was deeply inconvenient.

Because peace is much harder to measure than prestige.

You can’t put it on LinkedIn.

You can’t negotiate it into a compensation package.

You can’t add it to your resume.

You can only feel it.

And eventually trust it.

The role I ultimately accepted wasn’t the one my spreadsheets would have selected.

It wasn’t the one that best matched my past.

It was the one that aligned with my future.

Which, as it turns out, is often where God likes to operate.

Forward.

Not backward.

And here’s the part that still makes me smile.

When I called that leader to tell him I had chosen another path, he didn’t try to convince me otherwise.

He didn’t challenge my decision.

He didn’t sell me.

He honored me.

He saw something deeper happening.

Maybe he recognized surrender.

Maybe he recognized faith.

Maybe he simply recognized another human trying to make the best decision she could with the information she had.

Whatever it was, his response was grace.

His final words were something like:

“Next time I’m in town, let’s meet for a pastry at Emma’s Patisserie.”

And I remember hanging up feeling strangely peaceful.

Not because a door had closed.

But because it hadn’t.

Not really.

I have a feeling our paths will cross again.

Maybe someday he’ll be sitting in the audience at a book launch.

Maybe we’ll collaborate on something neither of us can currently imagine.

Maybe not.

But here’s what I know now:

I don’t need to know.

God already does.

And there is an extraordinary freedom in that realization.

For years, I chased confidence.

I read the books.

Including The Confidence Code.

I listened to the podcasts.

And yes, at one point I even rubbed grapefruit essential oil on my feet because someone promised it would reduce performance anxiety and increase feelings of security.

I am not making that up.

The funny thing is that confidence finally arrived when I stopped chasing it.

Not because I became more certain.

But because I became more surrendered.

The confidence wasn’t in my ability to predict the future.

It was in God’s ability to hold it.

Which brings me back to Proverbs.

“Better a meal of vegetables where love is than a fattened ox with hatred.”

This month, I’ve been realizing that Proverbs keeps saying the same thing in different ways.

Better humility than pride.

Better peace than abundance.

Better love than status.

Every single time.

And standing where I am now, I finally understand.

The greatest blessing of this season isn’t the title.

It isn’t the opportunity.

It isn’t even the alignment.

It’s the people.

The kindness.

The humility.

The love.

For years, I thought success was the fattened ox.

The title.

The promotion.

The achievement.

The recognition.

Now I think success might be much simpler.

Success is waking up excited to contribute.

Success is working alongside people who make you better.

Success is finding a mission worth carrying.

Success is peace.

Success is love.

And maybe that’s what God was trying to teach me all along.

Not how to build a successful life.

But how to recognize one when I was already standing inside it.

Shift happens.

And sometimes the deepest shift isn’t where you work.

It’s how you measure what matters.

I didn’t realize how many of my prayers had been secretly disguised as strategy sessions.

Until I stopped trying to negotiate every outcome… and started noticing something quieter underneath it all.

Alignment.

Not loud. Not dramatic. Not even particularly efficient.

Just… unmistakably right.

There’s a strange thing that happens when you stop gripping life so tightly. You begin to recognize the difference between what you want and what you were actually made for.

And sometimes those two things finally meet.

The Door I Didn’t Know I Was Walking Toward

I didn’t land in my next role because I reverse engineered it.

If anything, I stopped engineering everything long enough to notice what kept returning. It took a one year sabbatical doing only things that bring me love, peace, and joy to discover who I am and what I love, not what role I play and who I feel the need to please.

I paid attention to how I felt about… The conversations. The themes. The people. The work that lit something steady in me instead of something performative.

And then came the role.

Director of Program Quality and Systems at Better Together.

Even the name felt like a sentence I didn’t know I had been writing my whole life.

My work now lives at the intersection of systems, people, and impact:

• Designing scalable program infrastructure that strengthens statewide delivery and our ability to scale disruptive innovation supporting children and families nationally #mytruelove #godsfirstministry

• Building end-to-end systems, SOPs, automation, and data workflows that reduce friction and increase clarity #highperformance

• Architecting onboarding and learning ecosystems so leaders and teams can actually do their best work without drowning in chaos #efficiency

• Overseeing program quality, data integrity, and reporting that turns real-world insight into executive decision-making #impact

• Designing automation through systems like Salesforce and Zapier so humans can spend more time on humans, not paperwork #worksmarter

• Partnering across HR, operations, and marketing to create cohesion instead of silos #collaboration

• Strengthening volunteer and outreach systems so support actually reaches the families who need it most #love

On paper, it looks like infrastructure.

But underneath it, it feels like something else entirely.

Stewardship.

The Mission That Was Already Waiting for Me

The organization exists because of a simple but devastating truth:

Families don’t fall apart because they don’t love each other.

They fall apart because they don’t have support when life breaks open.

A job loss. A health crisis. A moment of instability that becomes a downward spiral simply because no one was there fast enough.

The founder saw what most systems miss:
People don’t need help after everything collapses.

They need support before they hit the floor.

And I didn’t realize how deeply that mission would resonate in my own life until I was standing inside it.

Because I know what it is to be one crisis away from everything changing.

I know what it is to rebuild from places no spreadsheet ever warned you about.

And I know what it is to quietly wonder who shows up for the people who don’t have a safety net.

Now I get to help build the systems that answer that question differently.

The Part I Didn’t Put on My Vision Board

Somewhere in the middle of all of this, I realized something that made me laugh a little.

Because I used to think spiritual growth would look like more time, more space, more quiet retreats, more intentional reflection.

What I got instead was:

Meetings. Systems. Data workflows. Leadership strategy. Automation architecture.

And somehow… God.

I came into this season thinking I was looking for a role.

What I didn’t realize is I was also looking for restoration.

I had a very specific desire that I didn’t always say out loud:

I wanted to grow spiritually in my work.
To pray without compartmentalizing it.
To contribute something meaningful to the world without losing myself in the process.
To feel competent again; not in theory, but in practice.

And I also wanted to do work that mattered beyond metrics.

Work that had a pulse.

What I didn’t know is that those desires were already being formed in me long before I could articulate them.

Some of them were buried under stress.
Some were buried under survival.
Some were buried under ambition that had forgotten how to breathe.

And some… I only discovered while I was already doing the job.

The Barnes & Noble Moment

On my very first day, something unexpected happened.

I was gifted a trip to Barnes & Noble.

I bought a book for a leadership masterclass I would be attending the next day with a pastor!

And I remember standing there thinking:

This is a dream come true. I’ve found my people. People who have giant hearts and brilliant minds. People who love to geek out and get smart so we can serve at our highest potential.

And… we get to do it with prayer and pastors at the heart of it all!

Pinch me… I must be dreaming.

The Quiet Evidence of God’s Hand

I used to think divine alignment would feel like clarity.

It doesn’t.

It feels like recognition.

Like walking into a room and realizing you’ve been there before in your spirit, even if your body is just arriving.

And as I look back now, I can see it more clearly:

The desire to grow spiritually at work.
The longing to contribute meaningfully.
The hunger for systems that serve people instead of overwhelming them.
The desire to heal the gap between structure and humanity.

None of that was random.

It was being formed.

Not by force.

By design.

The Imposter Syndrome Still Knocks

It still shows up sometimes.

Not as loudly as before. But enough to remind me that growth and uncertainty often share the same room.

But something has changed.

It doesn’t get to define the atmosphere anymore.

Because I’ve lived long enough now to know what it feels like when God opens a door that no amount of self-effort could have manufactured.

And I’ve also lived long enough to know the difference between striving and assignment.

This feels like assignment.

The Real Shift

I used to think shift was something I had to survive.

Now I see it differently.

Shift is what happens when your life finally catches up to what your spirit has known for a long time.

It’s not always clean.
It’s not always linear.
And it rarely arrives the way you planned it.

But sometimes it arrives as this:

A job that feels like alignment.
A mission that feels like meaning.
A life that feels less like effort… and more like participation.

And maybe that’s what I’ve been learning all along.

That God doesn’t just answer prayers.

He reorganizes the person who prayed them.

Shift Happens

And so did my life.

Wait until I tell you about the job opportunity that was in first place… I am so glad I didn’t question God!

Eight weeks. No articles. No Tuesday Inhale. Just… silence.

Here’s the truth: something was happening behind the curtain. And today, I’m finally ready to pull it back.

But first, you’ll need a little context.

The Man of the House

Those of you who have followed my journey for a while know that entrepreneurship has always been my second job. My passion project. My creative exhale. But for most of my adult life, there was always a “real job” holding the floor: paying the mortgage, keeping the lights on, being, as I came to think of it, the man of the house.

Single moms, you know exactly what I mean.

No child support. One income. All the decisions. All the weight.

I remember the moment clearly. My daughter looked up at me with those sweet eyes and said, “I wanna wide English and canta.”

(Translation, which took me a moment: she wanted to jump horses over hurdles. Equestrian show jumping. In case you were wondering, not exactly a budget hobby.)

I stood at a crossroads. And if you know me at all, you already know what I chose.

I figured it out.

What I didn’t know then was that the journey that followed would simultaneously show me what I was made of… and simultaneously stress me out more than I ever could have imagined. I’ll save the full story for the book. But that season planted a seed: at some point, I would need to return.

Trust and Surrender (The Hardest Strategy of All)

This time around, I did something different. I gave the journey to Jesus.

I know, for some of you, that’s everything. For others, it might raise an eyebrow. Either way, stay with me, because what happened next is worth it.

I’d been learning, slowly, through some of the hardest years of my life, that I don’t have as much control as I once believed. Battling cancer will do that to you. Planning for your death while simultaneously fighting for your life, and coming out the other side with less gas in the tank than you’d like, has a way of clarifying what actually matters. And somewhere in the wreckage and the rebuilding, I stopped trying to grip so tightly.

God’s vantage point is higher than mine. His ways are better. I’ve stopped arguing with that.

So when I felt called to return to the workforce, I did something I’d never done before: I entertained every opportunity as if it might be the one. Even when the hiring manager across the table looked like they hadn’t slept in a month. Even when the role felt slightly wrong. I showed up fully present, committed to the mission in the room, while often quietly praying that particular mission wasn’t mine to carry.

The Widest Net I’ve Ever Cast

The opportunities I explored this time surprised even me.

VP of Human Resources at a national healthcare organization. Customer Success roles at high-tech companies, including one that would have invited a relocation to Toronto. (I had just escaped the snow, but I opened my heart and mind anyway because the people are AWESOME.) I even considered a wedding event manager role at the World Equestrian Center, which felt like the universe winking at me given where this whole story started.

I walked into rooms I wouldn’t have dared enter five years ago. And I only had two prayers: connection and contribution. That’s it. Just let me connect with people. Just let me contribute something real.

I also had one very personal longing in my heart: a workplace where I could grow spiritually. Where I could pray. Where I could expand my faith and my prayer practice, and for the first time in a long time, feel genuinely good at what I was doing.

That last part might surprise you. I’ve built a career. I’ve earned promotions. But with every step up came a wave of imposter syndrome that I carried quietly and alone. After everything my body had been through, I wanted to feel capable. Confident. Like I could actually handle this thing called life.

Two Doors, One Answer

The process narrowed to two extraordinary opportunities, running neck and neck.

One was with an organization of 22,000 people. My role would have centered on leadership development and career pathways; work I could do in my sleep, work that lives in my bones. It felt comfortable. Safe. Familiar.

And then there was the other one.

Slightly outside my comfort zone, so it placed second on my list. And their offer arrived first.

I was sitting with the tension of knowing another offer was likely coming when a dear friend, someone I consider a spiritual mentor, asked me simply: “You’ve been praying about this, right? Do you really think God would have brought you the wrong one first?”

And just like that, I knew.

Where I Landed

I’m not going to tell you everything yet. (You know I love a good cliffhanger.)

But I will tell you this: I found a place that feels like home.

A place where work feels like love. Where operational excellence exists alongside genuine faith… a place where people pray in meetings, where there is no ego in the room, where the humans around me are among the kindest I have ever encountered.

And in a twist I genuinely did not see coming, God brought me back to something I loved when I was a teenager: supporting children and families.

The imposter syndrome? It still shows up sometimes. But it doesn’t unpack its bags the way it used to. Something has shifted.

Shift happens.

The Most Irrational Thing You Can Do Today

On the strange, transforming power of giving to someone you barely know — and one woman who needs you to believe it too.

Years ago, someone asked me to pray over a group of eighth-grade girls I had never met. I didn’t know their names. I didn’t know their stories. I had no reason to pour anything into them: no history, no relationship, no return on investment. It was, by most reasonable measures, an irrational thing to do.

And it changed me completely.

There is something that happens in the human heart when you show up for a stranger. Something that can’t be explained by logic or self-interest. It’s the moment you step outside the economy of reciprocity; the world of earned favors and balanced ledgers, and enter something older and wilder. Something that looks, from the outside, like foolishness.

Later, during my own cancer journey, I would be on the receiving end of that foolishness. Neighbors I barely knew leaving meals at my door. Acquaintances sending cards. People I had met once, maybe twice, showing up with a kind of love that had no rational explanation. Complete strangers spending hours with me on the phone explaining their journeys, pouring hope into my heart. It undid me. Not because it fixed anything, but because it reminded me, in the most tangible way, that I was not alone.

I think of that often now, when I encounter someone in the kind of pain that makes God feel distant. The kind where grief comes in waves and the practical demands of survival keep arriving anyway. The kind that asks too much of one person.

I think of it when I think of Addie.

Addie is a woman of deep faith. But faith doesn’t make grief lighter. It doesn’t pay for flights or funerals. And sometimes, in the thick of loss, God can feel very far away.

This is where we come in!

Not with a sermon. Not with advice. With the most irrational, irrefutable, impossible-to-explain demonstration of love we can offer: showing up for someone we may not know, because it is the right thing to do. Because generosity at this scale — the kind that floods in from all directions, from strangers and neighbors and people who just heard the story — is itself a kind of miracle. The kind that makes God feel close again.

I want Addie to feel that. I want her to be overwhelmed by it!

Father,

We come to You as a community of strangers who are becoming something more. Some of us are sitting in the in-between, in the grief, in the waiting. And some of us have just enough strength to reach toward someone else’s.

We lift Addie to You right now. This woman who is grieving and giving at the same time. Who is showing up for four children as a single mother, including two she just inherited in the middle of her heartbreak. She is doing the impossible, quietly, because love doesn’t wait for the right moment.

Meet her where she is, God. Let her feel, tangibly, unmistakably, that she is not alone. Let the generosity of this commUNITY be the evidence she needs that You are still here. Still working. Still rolling stones.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
— Galatians 6:2

And for each of us who give; who did the irrational, inexplicable, quietly holy thing of showing up for someone we may never meet, we ask that You do in us what generosity always does. Crack something open. Make more room. Remind us who we are when we are at our most alive.

This is how we shift. Not all at once. Not perfectly. But together: one act, one prayer, one stranger at a time.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

We will not grow weary. We will not give up. We will keep showing up… for each other, for the stranger, for the world our children are watching us build.

In the name that is above every name. In the name that is above every fear, every bill, every empty bank account, every sudden goodbye.

His name is Jesus. And in that name, we make shift happen.

I have a confession: for years I wrestled with Easter. Not the celebration of it… I love the celebration. But the theology underneath it. Because I believe in a God who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. A God who knows everything, can do anything, and is everywhere at once.

And I could not reconcile how that kind of God could allow His son to die the way He died. Someone so much as looks at my daughter sideways and mama bear wakes right up. So how could the Father watch that Friday and call it part of the plan?

I sat with that question for a loooong time. Until I heard a phrase at a leadership conference that cracked the frame open for me:

“There are levels to this thing.”

And I realized… there are levels to faith too. Levels we cannot reach by intellect alone. My pastor calls it the supernatural. He says if you want your life to have any joy, oxygen, and full color, you have to make room on the inside for it. Otherwise you’ll spend your life as the smartest one in a very small box. Ouch… As a scholarly type who loves math, science, and scholarly peer-reviewed journals, that one hurt a little.

Come along this journey with me… and let’s resist the temptation to rush past the part of Easter that doesn’t get any press.

Because when I looked at Holy Week as a whole, not just the Friday we honor and the Sunday we celebrate, I found that God’s curriculum for us includes three very distinct lessons:

• That some things cost more than we can calculate, and He paid it anyway (Good Friday)

• That God works in places we cannot see, on timelines we cannot track (Holy Saturday)

• That no tomb, and no season, has the final word (Resurrection Sunday)

This week, I’m going to apply these lessons to the place I know many of us actually live: not in the miracle, and not in the knowing, but in the quiet, unglamorous middle. The Saturday. The season where you’re building something you can’t yet see, pouring into things that don’t have receipts yet, and choosing to keep going because keeping going is the only act of faith you have left.

Challenge yourself this week: identify which day you’re in. The Friday. The Sunday... Or the Saturday. And sit with what it means that God is present in all three.

The Curriculum

God has a plan —
and it’s bigger than we can think

When I was completing my doctorate, we talked about the kinds of curriculum that exist in any school: the intended, the enacted, the received… and the null curriculum, the things no one teaches but everyone learns. That framework never left me. Because the more I walk this life, the more I believe that God has a curriculum too. And it’s our precious, particular, one-of-a-kind journey to discover it.

For years, I wrestled with a question I couldn’t shake loose: How could a God who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent (who knows everything, can do anything, and is everywhere at once) allow His son to die such a brutal death? The Supernatural

Making room for what
we cannot out-think

My pastor said it in a way that opened something in me on Easter Sunday. He said: If you want your life to have any joy, any oxygen, any full color, you have to make room on the inside for the supernatural. Otherwise your life will be a small, limited box that you live in as the smartest one there.

There is a version of faith that stays inside our comprehension. We trust what we can trace. We believe what we can explain. And we wonder why it feels like a small box. Because it is. The moment I accepted that I serve a God who can out-think me, a God whose vantage point is as far above mine as the heavens are above the earth, things shifted. Not perfectly. Not immediately. But they shifted.

The Easter story doesn’t ask us to understand. It asks us to believe that there is a name above all names. That when we pray in that name, we pray at a higher level. That when we are washed by the blood, we are living at a higher level. That the highest levels of faith are not reached by thinking harder and understanding more, they are reached by surrendering deeper.

Holy Week

Three days. Three lessons.
One curriculum.

We know the arc. Palm Sunday: the crowd erupts with joy, waving branches, shouting Hosanna. The King is here. Then the week turns. Thursday in the garden… the sweat and the prayer and the cup He asked might pass. Good Friday: the cross. The weight of everything wrong with everything carried in one body up a hill.

We honor Good Friday. We know what it cost. And we celebrate Resurrection Sunday with everything we have… because He is risen, the tomb is empty, and death did not win. We know that story by heart. We light the candles. We wear our spring colors. We sing the songs.

But here’s what we don’t talk about:

For the ones in the middle

I think many of us
are in a Saturday

Not the miracle. Not the knowing. The middle. The quiet, unglamorous stretch between the promise and the payoff… where you’re doing the work, holding the faith, and genuinely not sure if any of it is adding up.

The season where you look around at what you’re building in your business, in your home, in your kids, in yourself and you can’t yet see what it’s becoming. You’re pouring into things that don’t have receipts yet. Trusting that the story isn’t over just because you can’t see the ending. Choosing to keep going on the days when keeping going is the only act of faith you have left.

I’ve had a lot of Saturdays this season. (Struggling with side effects and managing my health…constantly.) And I’ve had to remind myself of this, over and over: God hasn’t lost track of you in the in-between. He knows exactly where you are. You’re just in the Saturday.

He was doing something in that tomb that nobody could see yet. Sunday is still coming.

God’s curriculum includes the Saturdays. The waiting is not wasted. The silence is not absence. The in-between is not a mistake in the plan: it is part of the plan. A level we don’t always understand, but a level we are invited to trust.

So this week, as we reflect on Holy Week, honor Good Friday for what it cost. Celebrate Resurrection Sunday with everything you have. But also: be gentle with yourself on the Saturdays. The ones where you can’t see what’s happening. Where the story feels suspended and unclear.

Make room for the supernatural. Trust the curriculum. Your faith is not limited to your questions. And your God is not limited to your understanding.

He proved that once, in a tomb, on a Saturday no one saw coming.

He is risen.
And Sunday is still coming for you.

Inhale.

Let’s pray!

Let’s inhale, together, and pray in commUNITY. 🕊️

Father,

We come to You quietly. Some of us are tired. Some of us are in a Saturday we did not choose… sitting in the in-between, doing the work, holding the faith, and waiting for a Sunday we cannot yet see. We come to You exactly as we are.

Your Word reminds us that Your thoughts are not our thoughts, and Your ways are not our ways:

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9

So we surrender the need to understand. We release the pressure to figure it all out. We lay down the small box of what our minds can hold and make room, right now, in this moment, for the supernatural. For You. For the plans You are working in the dark that we cannot yet see.

Your Word reminds us that You are working even when we cannot trace it:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5–6

We choose to trust what we cannot see. We choose to believe that the story is not over just because we cannot read the ending. We choose You over our questions.

And now, God, we stand on this side of Easter, and we declare what we know to be true:

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” John 11:25

You are the God who makes a way where there is no way. You are the God who works in tombs and silence and Saturday mornings when hope feels thin. You are the God who rolled the stone away, and You are still rolling stones today.

Your Word reminds us that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive in us!

“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:11

That power is not a memory. It is not a metaphor. It is alive… in us, for us, working on our behalf right now. So we declare: Sunday is coming. New life is coming. What You started, You will finish. What You promised, You will fulfill. There is a name above every name, above every fear, above every question, above every Saturday we are sitting in.

His name is Jesus. And in that name, we pray. In that name, we trust. In that name, we rise.

Amen. 🌬️

Take a moment this week to ask yourself:

• What have I been trying to understand that God is simply asking me to trust?

• Where in my life am I waiting for Sunday, and have I made room for God to work in my Saturday?

• What would shift if I truly believed that resurrection power is alive in me right now?

Sunday is still coming. But the work of faith happens in the in-between… in the quiet, in the surrender, in the choosing to believe before we can see.

💛 This week, I encourage you to name your Saturday. Write it down: the thing you’re building that has no receipts yet, the prayer you’ve prayed that hasn’t been answered yet, the promise you’re still holding. Then speak Romans 8:11 over it out loud: the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me. Watch what begins to shift when resurrection power meets your in-between.

Inhale honesty.
Exhale any excuses or ways of seeing the world that are holding you back.

This week, we’re getting real.

I received a message from a dear pastor friend from Africa today who shared a verse with me that I cannot shake:

“Catch the little foxes, the ones that ruin the vineyard while it is in bloom.” — Song of Solomon 2:15

At first, I read it and thought, “I’m too busy to deal with foxes and vineyards.” But then I remembered: Jesus often spoke in parables, so only those with an ear to hear would truly hear His words. As I sat with it, the verse began to resonate in a deeper way. This isn’t about foxes or vineyards, it’s about the interruptions that sneak in in the middle of growth.

The vineyard was not dry. It was not dead. It was blooming. Progress had started. Prayers were already bearing fruit. Yet something small had been allowed to stay… a little fox overlooked.

I felt a nudge from God to reflect: where are the foxes in my own life? Where am I excusing the “small things” that quietly sabotage growth?

• That momentum you’re building in your career… did it just slow down? Or were there small foxes: inconsistency, postponed discipline, the “I’ll start soon” mentality, the fear of showing up renamed as “preparing”?

• That friendship… did it suddenly break? Or were there small foxes: pride left unaddressed, words unsaid, tiny offenses stored instead of resolved?

• That marriage or partnership… did it drift apart? Or were there small foxes: small disrespect left unchecked, conversations avoided, effort quietly reduced, attention given elsewhere while pretending it’s “nothing”?

• Your relationship with your children… did the closeness fade or communication falter? Or were there small foxes: missed moments disguised as busyness, conversations postponed, patience tested and excused, small attentions overlooked that, over time, quietly grow distance?

• Your health and vitality… did your energy wane or weight shift unexpectedly? Or were there small foxes: skipped workouts, late nights disguised as “self-care,” meals postponed or replaced with convenience, little compromises that slowly erode strength and resilience?

The most dangerous fox of all is later.

“I’ll fix it later… I’ll obey later… I’ll deal with it later.”

Later is where things spoil. Not because we didn’t know, but because we postponed what we already knew.

As I prayed over this verse in the mighty name of Jesus (my new superpower), I felt led to take spiritual action:

• I asked the Lord to reveal the foxes, the small, overlooked interferences, in every area of my life.

• I declared the power of the blood of Jesus over every vine, every bloom, every step of progress. In modern times, we may not fully comprehend the depth of this truth, but the blood of Jesus is a shield, a cleansing, a breakthrough. It covers our vineyards (our work, our relationships, our health, our wealth, our purpose, our growth) and eradicates what tries to steal, kill, or destroy.

And so I invite you to do the same.

Let’s pray!

Let’s inhale, together, and pray in commUNITY. 🕊️

“Lord Jesus, reveal the little foxes in my life. Shine Your light on what I have overlooked. Let Your blood cleanse, protect, and empower every vineyard You’ve placed in my hands. Help me not to excuse or postpone, but to act with discernment, courage, and love. In Your mighty name, Amen.”

Take a moment this week to ask yourself:

• What have I been calling small that is already affecting something big?

• What have I delayed that is now delaying me?

• What have I tolerated that is quietly eating into my growth?

The vineyard can flourish, but only if we tend it diligently. Small foxes left unchecked grow into big interruptions. Let’s not wait until later, let’s deal with them today.

💛 I encourage you to write down one small fox you’ve noticed in your life and surrender it to Jesus. Watch how the bloom of your vineyard increases as you take this small but mighty step.

My mom and I began a new Bible study on the book of Proverbs. I’ll be honest, this study has been more scholarly than our previous one, and at first I struggled to relate to the repeated warnings about adultery.

But I didn’t let myself off the hook that easily as I know there is probably something hiding in these verses that the enemy wants to ensure I don’t see. So, I asked ChatGPT to help me connect Proverbs with neuroscience and behavioral psychology (two subjects I’ve always found fascinating), and suddenly I was hooked.

Come along this journey with me… and resist the temptation to skim past these verses.

Proverbs is a book filled with universal wisdom. The part that I found interesting as a parent is the father preparing his son for adulthood by teaching him:

• Where to give his heart

• Where to give his attention

• What voices to trust

• Which invitations lead to life

The son must learn that every path begins with an invitation, and we must look beyond the invitation and consider where the path will end.

This week, I’m going to apply these lessons to the areas I am struggling with: food, fitness, and the power of my words.

Challenge yourself to find one verse you can cling to this week. And please tell me what verse you chose, and what connections it has to your life.

Let’s begin…

“Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.”
— Proverbs 13:3

🧠 At first glance it sounds like simple moral advice. But when you look through the lens of behavioral psychology and neuroscience, it becomes stunningly accurate.

1️⃣ Words Reinforce Neural Pathways

In neuroscience, repeated thoughts and words strengthen neural circuits (Hebbian learning: neurons that fire together wire together).

So when we repeatedly say things like:

• “I’m overwhelmed.”

• “I can’t do this.”

• “Everything is falling apart.”

We reinforce stress pathways in the brain.

But when we speak life-giving truth:

• “God will guide my steps.”

• “I am capable of wise choices.”

• “This challenge is shaping me.”

We strengthen resilience pathways.

Proverbs understood thousands of years ago:

Words shape the direction of life.

2️⃣ Words Regulate the Nervous System

Modern research shows that language directly affects the nervous system.

• Negative language can activate the brain’s threat response, including the amygdala.

• Calm and constructive language activates the prefrontal cortex (reason and regulation).

In other words:

Guarding the mouth protects the brain.

Exactly what Proverbs 13:3 says.

3️⃣ Words Shape Identity

Behavioral psychology shows that identity-based language influences behavior.

For example:

Instead of saying
“I should exercise.”

A person who says
“I’m someone who cares for my body.”

is far more likely to follow through.

This mirrors wisdom literature:
words reinforce our identity, identity shapes behavior.

Let’s look at another verse…

“Reckless words pierce like a sword,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
— Proverbs 12:18

Modern neuroscience confirms:

• Harsh words activate the brain’s pain centers.

• Encouraging words release dopamine and oxytocin.

Ancient Proverbs:
Words wound or heal.

Neuroscience:
Words alter brain chemistry.

Same truth. Different language.

Proverbs reminds us that wisdom isn’t only about what we say… it’s about the choices we make and the consequences of our actions.

🍎 If you’re anything like me, one of the ways you navigate life is through… food!

So, let’s explore a verse for eating wisely that aligns beautifully with self-regulation.

“One who is full loathes honey,
but to one who is hungry everything bitter is sweet.”
— Proverbs 27:7

This reflects a behavioral principle:

When the body is truly nourished, unhealthy cravings lose their power.

🏃 And maybe you’re like me and sometimes exchange your workout for work…

“I discipline my body and keep it under control.”
— 1 Corinthians 9:27

The Greek word Paul uses implies intentional training, like an athlete.

Movement becomes not punishment, but stewardship.

🗣️ And when I overconsume sugar and neglect movement, I notice my patience shortens and my words become less thoughtful…

“Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”
— Proverbs 16:24

Did you catch that?

Words affect the body.

Today neuroscience calls this:

• psychosomatic influence

• mind-body interaction

• neurochemical signaling

Proverbs simply says: kind words bring health to the body.

❤️‍🩹 And for those of you on a healing journey, check this out!

Did you know biblical wisdom blends:

• functional medicine

• behavioral health

• mindset transformation

• spiritual wisdom

Proverbs never separates:

• body

• mind

• behavior

• spirit

They are all part of walking in wisdom.

Before major disruptions in life, many of us operate under the illusion that we are controlling everything.

But crisis often becomes the place where we learn:

• surrender

• trust

• dependence

• obedience

And what Proverbs promises is profound:

When we surrender control, God straightens the path.

My story of cancer, healing, transformation, helping people reclaim their health and identity, and stepping into deeper faith echoes this truth.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5-6

The choice is ours…

Which path will you choose… Lady Wisdom and the path of God? Or Lady Folly and the path of evil? Two invitations. Two very different destinations.

I pray you and I choose to love, embrace, and cling to wisdom.

“Lord, guide my appetites, my steps, and my words today. Help me nourish the body You entrusted to me, walk the path You set before me, and speak words that bring life.”

Let the part of you that always “fixes it all” rest for a moment.

Today, simply arrive.

What do leaders do when the world feels broken?

In leadership, as in life, the world teaches us a pattern:

Look outward.
Solve every problem.
Comment on every injustice.
Carry every burden.

But Scripture offers a different rhythm.

A pattern that moves from refuge to intercession to blessing.

First within ourselves.
Then extended to others.
Finally resting in the peace God gives.

When we renew our minds in God’s Word, we discover something surprising:

Leadership is not only about action.
It is about alignment, with truth, love, compassion, and UNITY.

Lately, I’ve been responding to many questions about division, suffering, and pain in the world.

People want to understand it.

They want to fix it.

They want to know why it’s happening.

And underneath all of those questions lives the deeper one:

“How could God let this happen?”

It’s a question people whisper in hospital rooms, in war zones, in quiet moments of exhaustion.

It’s also a question my very logical friends sometimes ask.

You know the type.
Science-minded brain.
Everything must compute.
Evidence required.

And honestly… I understand that mindset more than people realize.

That was me.

Early in my leadership training, I was taught a principle that has stayed with me for decades:

Presume positive intentions.

The truth is, most people are doing the best they can with what they know.

When someone loses their patience, lashes out, or makes a poor decision… it’s often not malice.

It’s stress.

I know this because I see it in myself.

When my stress levels get too high, I blow it.

I say something without thinking through how it will land.
I eat foods I know are not good for my body (or my waistline).
I react instead of respond.

In short…

I’m not at my best when I’m stressed.

My coach once taught me that stress is often a function of time.

When everything feels urgent, the nervous system panics.

So when I’m overwhelmed, I do something simple:

I adjust the timeline.
I reprioritize.
I breathe.

Most stress begins to dissolve when we create space again.

Yet the kind of stress I see people carrying lately feels different.

It isn’t just personal pressure.

It’s worldly stress.

Stress about humanity.
Stress about our children.
Stress about our communities.
Stress about the future of the world.

And when we feel this kind of pressure, our instinct is to look outward.

Fix it.
Argue about it.
Control it.

But the Bible invites a different first step.

Look inward. And create space for God in your heart.

And while that may feel uncomfortable… I want you to try it with me.

💭 Tuesday Reflection

Where are you trying to fix what you cannot yet see?

Where are you looking outward to solve, correct, or control, when perhaps the first step is to breathe, trust, and let God lead your heart?

This week, a former colleague in Israel reached out to me.

We began exchanging prayers through LinkedIn messages.

He shared three passages from the Book of Psalms that were resonating with him during this season.

And when I read them, something fascinating appeared. What I discovered next felt like a whisper hidden inside scripture.

They form a progression.

Not just spiritually…

Emotionally.

1️⃣ Fear — Psalm 91
2️⃣ Concern for others — Psalm 122
3️⃣ Peace — Psalm 29

When I saw it, I paused.

Because this pattern felt strangely familiar.

Cancer taught me this same progression.

Trauma healing often moves through these exact stages:

First the body seeks safety.
Then the heart reconnects with others.
Finally the spirit finds peace.

So naturally… I did what any curious leadership nerd would do.

I opened a conversation with my brilliant digital research partner (yes, ChatGPT) and started asking questions.

And what emerged was a beautiful pattern hidden in these Psalms.

Geek out with me…

The Hidden Three-Part Progression

1️⃣ Refuge — The Inner Sanctuary

Psalm 91

Before peace can exist in the world, the soul must first find safety.

Shelter of the Most High.
Shadow of the Almighty.
Refuge.
Fortress.

This Psalm begins in the most intimate spiritual place: the human heart.

It moves us from fear → trust.

For someone living near conflict, this is the first prayer:

God, hold me.

And interestingly, neuroscience now confirms what Scripture understood long ago.

Safety calms the nervous system.

The Bible knew this thousands of years before we had the science to prove it.

2️⃣ Intercession — The Circle Expands

Psalm 122

Once the heart is grounded, compassion begins to widen.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”

In scripture, Jerusalem often represents the spiritual heart of a people.

Prayer expands outward:

For friends.
For family.
For the city.
For the nation.

The prayer shifts from:

God, hold me → God, hold us.

Healing moves from individual to collective.

3️⃣ Blessing — Divine Peace Released

Psalm 29

The final movement is a declaration:

“The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.”

This is the outcome.

First refuge.
Then intercession.
Finally peace.

Not manufactured.
Not negotiated.

Bestowed.

The prayer becomes:

God, heal the world.

Leadership, belief, and faith are not about controlling outcomes.

They are about how we respond, and who we become in the process.

Even for minds wired for logic and evidence, there is space here.

Space for trust.
Space for wonder.
Space for unity.
Space for joy.

And perhaps this is where leaders and believers meet:

In the willingness to respond with love, guided by faith… even when the world seems to demand fear.

Let’s pray!

Let’s start within, and pray for ourselves

God of all wisdom and peace,
We bring our weary hearts and racing minds before You.
Teach us to first find refuge in You, where fear loses its grip.
Help us to lift our prayers for those around us, for our communities, and for our leaders, so that love, UNITY, and peace might prevail.
And when the path feels heavy, when the questions are too hard, remind us that Your strength is given, Your peace is real, and Your blessing endures.
May our leadership, our words, and our hearts reflect Your truth, even in chaos.
Amen.

Now, let’s pray for others (for my friend Yuval)

Heavenly Father,

Your Word reminds us that the one who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Today I pray that Yuval, his family, and all those he loves would feel that sacred covering. Be their refuge and fortress. Guard them from fear in the night and from the arrows that fly by day. Let Your presence quiet anxious hearts and replace fear with deep trust in You.

Lord, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May those who love her be secure, and may peace be within her walls and safety within her dwellings. Let wisdom guide leaders and courage guide peacemakers so that peace may rise stronger than conflict.

We also lift the innocent throughout the region, those in Israel, Iran, and every nation touched by this war. Restore their sense of safety. Replace fear with hope. Restore dignity, productive life, and the simple blessing of waking each day without the shadow of violence.

Father, Your Word declares that You give strength to Your people and bless Your people with peace. We ask for that strength now, for resilience, wisdom, compassion, and UNITY among all who desire peace.

May Your Divine redemption unfold swiftly. May Your protection cover the vulnerable. And may Your peace settle over this region like a healing balm.

Amen.

Let your breath lengthen.

Let the parts of you holding everything together feel permission to soften.

Because today’s inhale begins with a quiet truth I’m slowly realizing:

For years, I believed a lie about strength.

Like many of us, I was taught to compartmentalize.

Put the feelings in a box.
Label it.
Close the lid.
Place it neatly on the top shelf of the closet.

Smile.
Push forward.
Perform.

Somewhere along the way, we started calling that strength.

But lately I’ve been wondering something deeper.

Is compartmentalizing actually strength…
or is it a form of self-abandonment?

Because emotions don’t disappear when we hide them.

They settle.

They lodge themselves quietly into the fibers of our being.

And over time, what we refuse to process in our soul can begin to surface as dis-ease in the body.

So lately I’ve been asking God a different question:

What is the better way?

The verse that keeps guiding me back is this one:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

In other words:

If it’s the pattern of the world, it’s probably not the design of heaven.

And if we’re honest, stuffing emotions into tidy compartments is very much the pattern of this world.

But transformation?

Transformation requires awareness.

It requires honesty.

It requires bringing what is hidden into the presence of God.

And I’m still learning how to do that.

Still growing.

Because we truly do grow through what we go through.

The Wisdom My Pastor Reminds Me Of

My pastor says something that keeps echoing in my heart:

Intentionally set aside a time and a place to seek God, and God will meet you there.

Not when everything is perfect.

Not when the emotions are tidy.

But when we bring Him the honest ones.

Because with God, trials and tribulations can make us better, not bitter.

We can walk through the same storm as someone else and end up with completely different fruit.

Not because our circumstances were easier.

But because of how we chose to respond.

The enemy wants to leverage difficult seasons to discourage you.

To make you believe the story ends in defeat.

But our words reveal the story we are agreeing with.

That’s why lately I’ve been mindful of my own language today.

Instead of saying:

“Teenagers are impossible.”

or

“If I had known it would be this hard…”

I pause.

Because unchecked thoughts often mirror the patterns of this world.

And transformation begins with what we choose to believe.

The Shift I’m Writing About

This is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about my upcoming book, Shift Happens.

Because most of us don’t need a brand new life.

We need a new lens.

A shift in perspective.

A shift in how we interpret our lived experience.

Scripture has been guiding humanity through these shifts for thousands of years.

Here are a few verses that help me realign when my mind drifts back into the world’s patterns:

“Renew how you see.”
Romans 12:2

“We become what we believe.”
Proverbs 23:7

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
Proverbs 29:18

“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, and peace.”
Galatians 5:22

“Each person has a role in helping others thrive.”
1 Corinthians 12

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Psalm 139:14

“There is nothing new under the sun.”
Ecclesiastes 1:9

Ancient wisdom.

Modern validation.

The truth is timeless.

Three Shifts I’m Learning Right Now

1. Feelings Are Invitations, Not Enemies

Emotions are signals.

Not failures.

When we pause long enough to acknowledge them, we create space for healing instead of suppression.

God does not ask us to numb our humanity.

He asks us to bring it to Him.

2. Renewal Happens Through Awareness

Romans 12:2 does not say:

“Change your circumstances.”

It says:

“Renew your mind.”

Transformation begins when we notice the patterns we’ve been unconsciously living inside.

And choose something different.

3. Perspective Determines the Outcome

Two people can walk through the exact same storm.

One becomes bitter.

One becomes wiser.

The difference isn’t the storm.

It’s the lens.

This is the heart of Shift Happens.

Because the moment we change how we see something…

our experience of it begins to change too.

💭 Tuesday Reflection

Where in your life are you tempted to compartmentalize emotions instead of bringing them to God to release them?

A gentle caution I’m learning in my own life:

When we process emotions only with other people, we can unintentionally circulate the weight of the struggle.

But when we release them to God first, something different happens.

He lifts the burden.
He shifts the perspective.
He replaces heaviness with truth.

Then when we share with a trusted friend, mother, or partner, we’re not passing along the raw weight of the struggle… we’re sharing the wisdom and healing God is already creating in us.

In other words:

God is the place where burdens are surrendered.
Community is the place where healing is multiplied.

Father God,

You created our hearts with incredible depth.

Every worry we try to manage alone.
Every thought pattern we inherited from a world that often forgets You.

Teach us to bring our whole selves to You.

Not the polished version.
Not the strong version.
Not the compartmentalized version.

The real one.

Renew our minds where the world has shaped them.

Replace fear with vision.
Replace frustration with wisdom.
Replace overwhelm with Your peace.

Help us remember that our circumstances do not define our outcome.

Our perspective does.

When difficult seasons come, remind us they are not meant to defeat us.

They are invitations to grow.

Guard our words so they align with life, not defeat.

Guard our thoughts so they reflect truth, not fear.

And help us become the kind of people who walk through storms…

yet still carry love, joy, and peace into every room we enter.

Thank You for meeting us when we seek You.

In quiet places.

In honest moments.

In breath by breath surrender.

In the mighty name of Jesus,

Place your hand on your heart.

Breathe in:

I don’t have to compartmentalize my life.

I can bring it to God.

Your emotions are not interruptions to your spiritual life.

They are invitations into deeper communion.

But transformation?

Let the part of you that wonders, “Is this working?” feel gently invited into truth.

Today’s inhale comes straight from the lips of Jesus:

“You will know them by their fruit.” — Gospel of Matthew 7:16

Not by their titles.
Not by their platforms.
Not by their promises.

By their fruit.

And this week, as I wrote the final bonus chapter of Shift Happens, this verse wouldn’t let me go.

Because finishing a book about transformation forces you to ask one honest question:

Did I just write about change…
or did I actually become it?

The Bonus Chapter I Didn’t Plan to Write

The final bonus chapter of my book wasn’t strategic.
It wasn’t outlined months ago.
It arrived.

It came after the edits.
After the tears.
After revisiting the diagnosis.
After remembering the fear.

And as I typed the last sentences, I realized something quietly powerful:

Cancer took many things.
Comfort. Predictability. Illusions of control.

But it also gifted me a new perspective on performance.

There is nothing like a life-altering diagnosis to clarify fruit.

When survival becomes your way of life, you stop caring about optics. You care about essence.

And here’s what I began to see:

The real shift wasn’t external.

The fruit had changed.

Where there was once urgency, there is now peace.
Where there was once proving, there is now presence.
Where there was once hustle, there is now harmony.

That is fruit.

And fruit does not lie.

What Jesus Actually Meant

In Gospel of Matthew 7, Jesus is talking about discernment.

He warns about false prophets.
About appearances that deceive.
About leaves without nourishment.

And then He gives us the litmus test:

Fruit.

Not gifts.
Not charisma.
Not influence.

Fruit.

The Apostle Paul later names that fruit in Epistle to the Galatians 5:22–23:

Love.
Joy.
Peace.
Patience.
Kindness.
Goodness.
Faithfulness.
Gentleness.
Self-control.

Notice something profound:

Every single one of these is relational.

Fruit is not about achievement.
It is about who people experience when they encounter you.

Three Lessons the Fruit Is Teaching Me

1. Fruit Grows in Hidden Places

You don’t staple fruit onto a tree.

It grows from the inside out.

The months no one saw.
The prayers whispered at 3 a.m.
The journal pages soaked in surrender.

That’s where fruit forms.

Just like Esther last week. Just like you. Just like me finishing words that required reliving fire.

Hidden seasons are not barren seasons.

They are root-deepening seasons.

2. Fruit Is Evidence of Abiding, Not Striving

Healthy trees don’t strain to produce apples.
They remain connected.

In Gospel of John 15, Jesus says, “Abide in me.”

The Greek word meno means to remain, to dwell, to stay.

Fruit is not the result of grinding harder.

It is the result of staying connected longer.

This is the shift.

In my survival years, I strived.
In my healing years, I abided.

And the fruit tastes different.

3. Fruit Is for Others

Trees do not eat their own fruit.

Let that land.

The love growing in you is nourishment for someone else.
The peace you fought for becomes refuge for your daughter.
The gentleness you cultivated becomes safety for a client.

Finishing Shift Happens isn’t about completing a manuscript.

It is about offering fruit.

Because if my story only inspires me, it would be incomplete.

But if it nourishes another woman standing in her own diagnosis, divorce, disruption, or doubt?

That is kingdom multiplication.

A Gentle Diagnostic

If Jesus says we will be known by fruit, then here’s the loving question:

What is growing in me right now?

Not what am I posting.
Not what am I building.
Not what am I announcing.

What is growing?

Is anxiety multiplying?
Is comparison ripening?
Is resentment taking root?

Or…

Is love becoming more instinctive?
Is peace more accessible?
Is self-control steadier?

Fruit reveals the root.

And roots can be tended.

💭 Tuesday Reflection

Where in your life are you tempted to manage perception instead of cultivate fruit?

If someone tasted the atmosphere around you this week, what would they experience?

What root system needs strengthening so better fruit can grow?

Let’s inhale, together. Let’s pray. In commUNITY. 🕊️

Father God,

You are the Gardener.

You see beneath the soil line.
You know what is entangled.
You know what is diseased.
You know what is ready to bloom.

Prune what is performative.
Uproot what is fear-based.
Strengthen what is love-rooted.

Teach us to abide.
Not hustle.
Not prove.
Not perform.

If we are to be known by our fruit,
let it be unmistakably Yours.

Grow in us what feeds others.
Grow in us what reflects heaven.
Grow in us what remains when titles fall away.

And as we finish chapters —
in books, in seasons, in identities —
remind us that the greatest evidence of transformation
is not applause.

It is fruit.

In Jesus’ steady name,
Amen.

Place your hand on your heart.

Breathe in:

I don’t have to prove transformation.
I can produce it.

You are not called to impress the world.

You are called to nourish it.

Healthy fruit takes time.

But it always tells the truth.

Let’s slow down and breathe…

Inhale peace.
Exhale pressure.

This morning it was 37°.

Cold enough that most of us would have preferred to stay wrapped in blankets a little longer.

But there he was.

The mayor.

Silver-haired.
Well beyond “working age.”
Standing at the school gate.

Smiling.
Waving.
Greeting every child by name.

He didn’t have to be there.

No campaign.
No applause.
No advancement waiting on the other side.

Just a steady presence at the entrance to a new day.

And as I watched him welcome Gigi and the other children, something in me whispered:

This is leadership.
This is legacy.
This is blessing.

He is not driven by ambition.
He is driven by devotion.

And in a world shouting “do more, be more, wake earlier, optimize everything,” his quiet consistency felt almost disruptive.

Because the world tells our children (and us) that we are behind.
Never enough.
Always chasing.

Get up earlier.
Grind harder.
Success is for the few.

But Scripture tells a different story.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

And Proverbs reminds us:

“Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.” — Proverbs 16:31

His silver hair isn’t decline.
It’s a crown.

A crown earned not through hustle, but through faithfulness.

We live in a time of dual messages.

Hustle… but rest.
Strive… but trust.
Build… but abide.

And sometimes it feels confusing.

God is not a God of confusion.

Yet here we are trying to navigate a culture of urgency while longing for eternal rhythm.

Maybe the confusion doesn’t come from Him.

Maybe it comes from listening too long to voices that measure worth by output instead of obedience.

Jesus was never hurried.

And yet He fulfilled every assignment placed before Him.

Maybe the invitation is not either/or.

Not hustle or harmony.

But holy rhythm.

Move when called.
Rest when needed.
Trust always.

The mayor standing faithfully at that gate every single day is not building a résumé.

He is building reassurance.

Children learn what they live.

If they live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If they live with security, they learn faith.

What are our children living inside of?

Are they absorbing our anxiety?
Or our anchored trust?

Are they watching us chase validation?
Or witnessing us walk in devotion?

In seasons where we feel less motivated than we once were…
Less successful than we once seemed…
When exhaustion lingers and discouragement whispers…

Perspective changes everything.

Maybe this season isn’t about acceleration.

Maybe it’s about alignment.

Not driven by ambition.
Driven by devotion.

Standing at the gate.
Smiling.
Being faithful with what’s in front of us.

That is stewardship.

That is leadership.

That is blessing the next generation.

Thank You for the trust of influence: in our homes, in our communities, in quiet moments that no one applauds.

Renew our minds where the world has shaped them.

When urgency overwhelms us, slow us down.
When comparison creeps in, anchor our identity.
When exhaustion tempts us to withdraw, remind us that presence is powerful.

Teach us to move in Your rhythm.

Not driven by ambition.
Driven by devotion.

Help our children grow up in homes where they learn confidence, faith, steadiness, and love (not because we were perfect, but because we were faithful).

Crown our years with righteousness.
Crown our homes with peace.
Crown our legacy with devotion.

In the mighty name of Jesus,

🌬️ One Last Inhale

Before you step back into your day,
place a hand on your heart.

Breathe in this truth:

There is divine order in the middle of perceived duality.
There is wisdom in the tension.
There is peace available even when messages feel conflicting.

My daughter and I have been in constant conversation about the duality of these cultural messages: hustle or rest, grind or grace, strive or surrender.

We were wrestling with it out loud.

And this morning…

God revealed the answer.

Not through noise, but through clarity.
Not through pressure, but through peace.

And suddenly everything settled.

We felt peace that surpasses all understanding.

Hallelujah.

That peace reminded us:

God is not the author of confusion.
He is the author of rhythm.

My life is not meant to mirror the extremes of culture.
It is meant to reflect alignment with Him.

I steward my time with wisdom.
I move with diligence when called.
I rest without guilt when invited.

I am not behind.
I am not failing.
I am not required to perform to prove worth.

I am guided.

Activation is not about forcing outcomes.
It is about aligning with divine design.

This week, a simple phrase stopped me in my tracks:
You’re not losing yourself. You’re evolving.

It landed softly at first, and then it echoed.
Through my cancer journey.
Through seasons of survival that demanded silence.
Through moments when comfort tempted me to stay hidden.

And suddenly, I found myself back in the book of Esther.

Not the fairy-tale version with crowns and banquets, but the real one.
The story of a woman who didn’t set out to be brave.
Who adapted before she acted.
Who survived before she led.
Who stood at the edge of her own safety and realized that everything she had lived through was preparing her for a moment she couldn’t ignore.

“And who knows but that you have come to your position for such a time as this?”

This inhale is for anyone standing in that holy in-between:
no longer who you were,
not yet who you’re becoming,
but feeling the quiet nudge that staying the same is no longer an option.

Let’s breathe into Esther’s story together…

For Such a Time as This: Esther and the Holy Art of Becoming

There’s a particular moment in a woman’s life when she realizes she is no longer who she used to be, but she hasn’t quite met who she’s becoming yet.

Before she was a queen, before she was brave, before she was anything history would remember, Esther was an orphan. A displaced young woman in a foreign empire, surviving more than choosing. She didn’t set out to be heroic. She didn’t wake up one morning with a five-year plan to save a nation. She simply kept going. She adapted. She listened.

And for a long time, she stayed quiet.

Esther’s rise into the palace wasn’t a triumph of ambition, it was a surrender to circumstances she didn’t control. She was chosen, yes, but she was also hidden. Her identity tucked neatly away. Her faith folded carefully inside her chest. She learned, as many women do, how to be agreeable, observant, and safe.

This is not a failure of character.
This is wisdom in an unsafe world.

But then (because this is how life works) the moment arrived.

A crisis big enough to demand more than survival. A threat large enough to make comfort feel like betrayal. A choice that asked Esther to decide whether her life was only about preserving herself, or about offering herself.

Her cousin Mordecai says the line that echoes across centuries and quilts and hospital rooms and journals:

“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

I imagine Esther hearing those words and feeling that internal tectonic shift, the one where your soul stands up straighter than your fear. The one where you realize your past wasn’t random, your preparation wasn’t wasted, and your pain might actually be purposeful.

This is where Esther’s story stops being about beauty and crowns and starts being about becoming.

She doesn’t rush. She fasts. She prays. She gathers community. She listens for timing. Esther doesn’t confuse urgency with recklessness. She understands something ancient and deeply feminine: that courage is not loud, it is precise.

And then she acts.

“If I perish, I perish,” she says.

Not as despair.
But as devotion.

This is not the voice of a woman who wants to die.
This is the voice of a woman who has decided to live aligned.

Esther walks into the presence of power knowing she may not walk out again. And somehow (because love is never passive, and obedience carries its own strange gravity) the story bends. A death sentence is reversed. A people are spared. And Esther becomes, not by force but by faith, exactly who she was always meant to be.

Here’s what Esther teaches me, still:

You are not losing yourself when life asks more of you.
You are evolving.

The quiet seasons mattered.
The hidden seasons mattered.
The survival seasons mattered.

But there comes a time when the inhale must turn into an offering.

And maybe, just maybe, you have been prepared by everything you’ve lived through. Maybe your heartbreaks and healings, your detours and diagnoses, your pauses and prayers were not interruptions at all.

Maybe they were initiation.

And maybe the question isn’t “Am I ready?”
But rather:

What would love ask of me now?

Because for such a time as this…
love always calls us forward.

Not even the ones we wish we could rewrite.

Like Esther, we confess that courage doesn’t always come naturally.
Sometimes we’d rather preserve comfort than risk obedience.
Sometimes we mistake safety for faithfulness.

But today, we hear Your invitation:
Return to Me.
Not with perfection.
Not with performance.
But with our first and truest offering: our hearts.

Refine us where fear still lingers.
Strengthen us where love is asking more of us.
Help us trust that choosing love will never be a failure.

If we are here for such a time as this,
give us the grace to say yes—
even when the outcome is uncertain,
even when the cost feels real.

Take what we’ve lived through and make it testimony.
Take what once threatened us and make it purpose.
Take our inhale, and turn it into an offering that blesses others.

We choose love.
We choose obedience.
We choose trust.

In the steady, refining name of Jesus,
Amen.

Before you step back into your day,
place a hand on your heart.
Breathe in this truth:

You are not losing yourself.
You are being refined.

You are not behind.
You are being prepared.

And you are not alone—
you are being called forward.

Inhale grace you didn’t earn.
Exhale the pressure to prove you’re strong.
Let your body soften.
Let your spirit unclench.
Let the part of you that learned how to survive finally rest.

Today’s inhale was born in Scripture… and landed squarely in my own story.

This week, I found myself sitting with John chapter 21, the quiet, tender scene after the resurrection where Jesus meets His disciples on the shore. Breakfast is cooking. Nets are heavy with fish. And Peter — the bold, brash, confident one — is about to be restored.

If you know Peter’s story, you know he meant every promise he made.

“I will lay down my life for You.”
“Even if everyone else falls away, I never will.”
“I will never deny You — even if it costs me my life.”

And then… he did.

Three denials.
A charcoal fire.
A rooster crowing.
The slow, sick realization that he had grossly overestimated his own strength.

By the time we reach John 21, Peter isn’t posturing anymore. He isn’t boasting. He isn’t promising anything.

He’s broken.

And that’s where Jesus meets him.

Three times Jesus asks, “Do you love Me?”
Not to shame him — but to heal him.
Not to test him — but to restore him.

And every time Peter answers — humbly, honestly, without bravado — Jesus responds with the same invitation:

Feed My lambs.
Take care of My sheep.

In other words:
“Let your love for Me become care for others.”

Vertical love.
Horizontal service.

And as I sat with that passage, I felt it land in my body with a familiar ache and a holy recognition.

Because it took a layoff and cancer to teach me the same lesson Peter learned on that beach.

I didn’t realize how much of my identity was anchored in competence… in achievement… in being the strong one… until all of that was stripped away.

Like Peter, I had overestimated my own capacity.
Like Peter, I believed faith meant never faltering.
Like Peter, I thought devotion looked like endurance.

And then my body said no.
My job disappeared.
My strength tank hit empty.

Brokenness didn’t make me weak — it made me honest.

It drove me to depend on Jesus rather than myself.
To stop promising what I could do for God…
And start receiving what God could do through me.

And here’s the miracle I didn’t expect:

Jesus didn’t sideline Peter after his failure.
He trusted him.

More than before.

Peter’s calling didn’t change — his posture did.

And that’s what happened to me.

My work didn’t end — it was re-aimed.
My voice didn’t quiet — it deepened.
My leadership didn’t disappear — it softened into service.

This is the upside-down beauty of the Kingdom:
Failure doesn’t disqualify us.
It humble-calibrates us.

It teaches us that love for Jesus is not proven by promises…
But by presence.
By obedience.
By feeding sheep when our own hearts have been fed by grace.

💭 Tuesday Reflection
Where has life gently — or painfully — revealed that you’ve been relying on your own strength?
What would it look like to let that failure become a doorway into deeper dependence, rather than a verdict against you?
Who might Jesus be inviting you to serve because of what you’ve walked through — not in spite of it?

Jesus,
You meet us not at our strongest…
But at our most honest.

You know where we’ve overpromised.
Where we’ve tried to muscle through.
Where pride masqueraded as faith.

Thank You for not turning away when we fail —
But turning toward us with breakfast, restoration, and purpose.

Teach us to love You not with bravado, but with obedience.
Not with self-reliance, but with surrendered hearts.
Let our vertical love for You overflow into gentle, faithful care for others.

Take what was broken and make it bread.
Take what was lost and make it testimony.
Take what humbled us and make it holy ground.

We say yes — not because we are strong,
But because You are.

In the restoring name of Jesus,
Amen.

🌬️ One Last Inhale

Before you step back into your day, place a hand on your heart.
Breathe in this truth:

Jesus doesn’t ask for your perfection.
He asks for your love.
And then He gives you someone to serve.

You’re not behind.
You’re being restored.

Exhale the weight you’ve been carrying alone.

Let your shoulders soften.

Let the part of you that has been “holding it all together” rest for a moment.

Today, simply arrive.

This year, Tuesday Inhale has become more personal than I ever anticipated.

What began as a simple intention — a space on our week to breathe, reflect, and pray for others on Substack — opened into something cherished and precious. People entrusted me with the deepest places of their hearts and invited me to pray alongside them. Last year, I shared those prayers publicly, inspired by the ripple effect prayer can have when it’s spoken boldly and believed deeply.

The woman who taught me how to pray did just that — she prayed bold prayers, brave prayers, prayers I never heard before. She clearly knew God in big ways, and her life reflected it. It ignited a spirit of curiosity and wonder within me. I learned alongside her (without her even knowing it). My faith grew by being in proximity to her faith, her confidence, her reverence for who God is. As humans, we emulate the people around us. It’s why who we surround ourselves with matters so much.

And as my prayer life expanded, I felt called to pass on the gift she gave me.

So I began praying for others… and eventually my courage grew and I followed god’s calling to publish those prayers on Substack each week. But as the prayers became more personal, more tender, I realized it wasn’t always my place to share the intimate details of someone else’s story.

So I began praying for the one who needed it most in this season.

Me.

I’m weary.

It’s been 38 months since my role was downsized — and two days later, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. It is the longest stretch of suffering I have ever known. Without a job or a polished title to anchor my worth or distract me from the voices in my head, everything became more exposed. I had to decide who I am when no one is telling me who to be, what to wear, how to speak, what to say… They call it a “journey,” and goodness, that’s one word for it.

It’s been two years since I sold the farm and released a dream I spent 11 years building. Three years of symptoms and side effects to manage. Fifteen years of raising my daughter as a single mom.

And I’m tired. Tired of turning every obstacle into an opportunity. Tired of being the strong one. Tired of carrying it all.

I’ve come to realize mind has become a battleground. A place where the enemy whispers that my best days are behind me. That exhaustion is just “how it is” in your 40s. That it’s perimenopause and the side effects of cancer treatment and medication. That raising a teenager is supposed to drain you. That the economy is bad. That joy is nowehere to be found in this season. But, it’s just a season, and it’ll pass. And right as I began to find a glimmer of hope there…

Freezing temperatures struck Central Florida, a place not built for them. I woke to water sprouting from pipes near our well. I drove my daughter to school trying to put a smile on my face, but honestly behind the scenes I was wishing I didn’t have to face the day. I was unsure how much more I had left in me. If strength was a tank of gas, mine was on empty.

And then I remembered:
I walked through cancer.
Every day, I repeated words of truth:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

But this week, I didn’t feel strong.

I cried.

I reached out for help, and a few hours later, a friend arrived. We drove from store to store, calling just about every place in town along the way, searching for the right valve. My heart felt heavy. My mind was racing through all of the things on my to-do list. The plantar fasciitis in my foot flared. Old numbing habits began to whisper — you may know them as emotional eating. And sugar called my name.

Thankfully, I wasn’t alone. I was with someone grounded and healthy, which helped me resist the chorus of voices in my head: It’s been a bad day. You deserve it. You’ve been good all week. One piece of chocolate won’t hurt.

The truth is, harmony and disharmony are the difference between HEALth and HELLth. And I know which one I’m choosing.

And as if the voices in my head weren’t enough, my daughter’s words echoed back to me from a recent debate:
“Why do you have to be so terrible when you’re stressed? You can just choose joy. Stress is a choice. Frustration is a choice. Joy is… a choice.”

Ouch. And… truth.

Later that morning, I opened my God’s Way Day by Day calendar:

“Apply your heart to my knowledge…
So that your trust may be in the Lord.”
— Proverbs 22:17, 19

And I was reminded: we rarely know what a day will hold. Which is why we need a fresh encounter with God’s Word — every single day — and the discipline to return our minds to truth when life tries to pull us under.

As if to underline the message, I heard on Joy FM a reference to a book titled The Goodness of God in the Gift of Scripture. I looked up the book while waiting for the repair, and I was met with these words:

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

The author was referencing pastor and writer A.Z. Tozer, and then invites the reader to question: What if the same is true of Scripture?

Through it all, I was reminded that the shape of our worship, and the shape of our lives, is dictated by what we believe God is like. If we sing “the joy of the Lord is our strength” and actually believe it… then every obstacle becomes an invitation to respond with joy.

I think of my coach, Brendon Burchard, who taught three simple words:
Bring the joy.

I see now how profound that really is.

Where in your life right now are you being invited — not to muscle through, not to fix, not to endure — but to choose joy as an act of trust?

What might shift if you believed, even here, that the joy of the Lord truly is your strength?

We come to You weary, beat down, and honest.

You see the weight we carry; the unseen battles, the quiet tears, the moments when our strength tank is running on empty. You remind us that joy is not denial, but devotion. Not pretending, but trusting.

Teach us to apply our hearts to Your knowledge.
Anchor our minds in Your Word.
Lift our eyes from the obstacle to the opportunity to respond like You.

When fear whispers lies, let joy rise as our resistance.
When the path feels heavy, remind us Who walks beside us.
When we forget who You are, gently call us home again.

We choose joy, not because life is easy,
Or because we feel the pressure to act as though things are fine,
but because You are good.
Your Word is truth.
And Your joy is our strength.

In the almighty name of Jesus, we pray for JOY!
Amen.
