This past week was a textbook example of how the auction typically unfolds in light of Events (Nvidia Earnings & Jackson Hole) as market participants get into ‘wait mode’ until directional clarity emerges post events. We did well over at Discord by using 7,676-82 as our Pivot for every long that an Excess Low provided on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The most important element 3 sessions and sellers failed to accelerate below in spite of trading inside prior week’s lower distribution. We followed up the long swing with a perfectly anticipate short trade, as the plan noted “Any rally post Jackson Hole will be fantastic opportunity”, well that’s how we ended the week on Friday with a 40 point short post Gap fill at 7,777.

From hereon, the key is to observe whether buyers can sustain the recent multi-day balance breakout and build value inside the weekly upper distribution OR will sellers trigger a failed balance breakout to repair the poor structure below the Weekly Low.

• Overview: Buyers remain in control with the multi-gap breakout of the prior 12WK Balance. Last week’s multi-day balance breakout on a value gap, resulted in a Weekly Double Distribution to the upside and a close within, validating buyers strength. However, the failure to sustain intraday rallies is noteworthy and is a function of late buyers losing strength.

• Short Term: The first sign of aggressive buyer strength will be to reclaim Weekly VAH and build value to continue the trend higher into Single Prints at 7,787. In the event a pullback is seen first, then response to be gauged upon Value Gap fill at 7,697. Do responsive buyers appear at Value Gap and initiate the next leg up or a weak response results in a multi-day balance breakout failure with sellers reclaiming interim control to repair the structure below (7,587-7,638).

It’s noteworthy, NQ in spite of holding below its prior Week’s VAL, kept printing higher lows suggesting sellers losing strength. Ultimately, post NVDA release initiated a breakout. We then followed up with a short on Friday at 29,770/90s, calling out the “bluff” on the rally post Jackson Hole for 200 Points.

However, the failure to sustain intraday rallies is noteworthy and is a function of responsive buyers losing strength.

• Short Term: The first sign of aggressive buyer strength will be to reclaim Weekly VAH and build value to continue the trend higher into Gap at 30,027-30,157. In the event a pullback is seen first, then response to be gauged upon Gap fill at 29,297/368. Do responsive buyers appear upon Gap fill and initiate the next leg up or a weak response results in a multi-day balance breakout failure with sellers reclaiming interim control to target last week’s lows and Single Prints at 28,846

The week kicked off with sellers taking control, with a gap down below Weekly VAL across both ES/NQ on Monday. However, sellers failed to accelerate beyond ES 7,657 (Demand Zone) and NQ 29,864 (Gap Fill), instead printed higher lows on each attempt. That resulted in responsive buyers reclaiming Weekly VAL (7,681 / 29,304), before completing the value rotation to Weekly VAH on Thursday/Friday. On Friday, both ES/NQ attempted an exploration above their respective Weekly VAH, only to find sellers after ES completed its structural repair with the Gap Fill at 7,766/77. Ultimately, the week ended back inside last week’s value, with explorations marked on both sides of Value. The below review will highlight how every important turn in the auction happened at the levels shared on Sunday. The auction was primarily guided by two core frameworks: Balance Rules and Gap Rules, with failed value breakout emerging on Friday to signal a mid day reversal.

This past week was a textbook example of how the auction typically unfolds in light of ‘Upside Exhaustion’ and resulted in a ‘Value Rotation + Breakdown’, the two most effective and predictable market characters. Our read was spot on from the word go, we called for ‘18th August’ to be the turn date, and ES complied by finding responsive sellers off Weekly VAH at 7,805 on Monday to deliver a +150 Points pullback to end the week. The upside exhaustion and turn date took effect on Tuesday with a large Gap down across ES/NQ, one which failed to fill on Wednesday’s Gap up attempt and thus resulted in a new lows for the week. We did pretty well securing the highs of the week at 7,816 and 7,800.

From hereon, the key is to observe whether sellers can sustain the recent trend down to backtest the prior ATH and Gap at 7,627/38 and trigger a balance breakout failure OR will buyers defend the breakout post the structural repair to initiate a rotation higher.

• Overview: Buyers remain in control with the multi-gap breakout of the prior 12WK Balance. Last week’s multi-day breakout failure, resulted in a Weekly Double Distribution to the downside and a close within, validating sellers strength. However, the ongoing pullback remains a structural repair post the breakout, thus is a function of upside exhaustion instead of stronger sellers.

• Short Term: The first sign of aggressive seller strength will be to break Friday’s low and build value below to continue the trend lower into Gap/Prior ATH at 7,627/38. In the event a rally is seen first, then response to be gauged at 7,746 Weekly VAH. The response will be the first real clue to observe. Do responsive sellers appear at Weekly VAH and initiate the next leg down or a weak response results in buyers reclaiming interim control to repair the structure above (7,766 - 7,787).

This past week was a textbook example of how the auction often develops during the event week. It’s the character of these markets around events that has helped shaped our proprietary “Events Playbook”. The playbook was spot on from the word go, with Friday’s High 7,787 (ES) capping the upside up until Wednesday. While, Tuesday delivering a perfect rotation within Friday’s range allowing us to secure Weekly Lows at 7,740s. Buyers initiated a breakout on Thursday after 3 days of consolidation converting Friday’s High into IB Low and printing new highs for the week. The noteworthy aspect to this breakout, the entire auction mirrored how July CPI/PPI release week develop. We were prepared and positioned to secure the +25 Point rally and the reversal that followed off LIS 7,836.

What Happened Last Week

The week kick off with sellers taking control on Monday with a look above and fail off Friday’s High at 7,787. Although responsive buyers stepped in at Friday’s VAL 7,762 region, however, failed to find traction above Monday’s High. That failure combined with IB breakdown resulted in a rotation down to Friday’s Excess Low, where underlying demand initiated a reversal back to 7,790 into Wednesday. The divergence with NQ being on a Gap and below its Open and ES at supply zone at 7,790s resulted in yet another pullback, however, held YVAL at 7,760s. Ultimately post Thursday’s release, RTH held YVAH at 7,785 and initiative buyers printed new highs for the week, before pulling back on Friday. The development resulted in ES ending the week inside Weekly Upper Distribution.

The most notable development occurred on Wednesday where ES on its 3rd rejection off 7,787-91 printed a higher low post sweeping CPI release low + backtesting YVAL, where responsive buyers were found. The lack of traction by sellers beyond YVAL resulted in buyers keeping control and ultimately set the foundation for a late week multi-day breakout.

Structural Outcome & Way Forward

From hereon, the key is to observe whether buyers can sustain the multi-day balance breakout and build value within last week’s upper distribution for yet another continuation higher OR will buyer exhaustion result in repairing the poor structure and backtesting the multi-week balance top.

• Overview: Buyers remain in control with the multi-gap breakout of the prior 12WK Balance. Last week’s multi-day breakout, resulted in a Weekly Double Distribution to the upside and a close within, validating buyers strength. However, the lack of sustained acceleration post breakout followed by subsequent reversals, indicates buyer exhaustion, while ES is trading to Monthly Exhaustion.

• Short Term: The first sign of aggressive buyer strength will be to defend Thursday’s Low and build value above to continue the trend higher. In the event a reversal is seen first, then response to be gauged at 7,743. The response will be the first real clue to observe. Do responsive buyers appear at Weekly VAL and initiate the next leg up or a weak response results in continued repair of the thin structure below (7,634 - 7,727).

What Happened Last Week

The week kick off with sellers taking control on Monday with a look above and fail off Friday’s High at 29,860. Although buyers held the IB Low during RTH and then Friday VAL/LIS 29,666 during the overnight session, however, failed to find traction above Balance Top 29,912. Tuesday opened at YVAH 29,842 found responsive sellers into overnight Lows at 29,666, where an excess low was formed. However, buyers stalled at Period A HB, resulting in a complete rotation to Friday’s Excess Low, where underlying demand initiated a reversal back to 29,912 into Wednesday. NQ opened on a Gap up post CPI and with no interest above open, NQ filled its Gap at 29,842 where Gap fill buyers appeared. Ultimately post Thursday’s release, RTH held YVAL at 29,862 and responsive buyers printed new highs for the week, before pulling back on Friday. The development resulted in ES ending the week inside Weekly Upper Distribution.

The most notable development occurred on Wednesday where NQ on its 3rd rejection off 29,912 printed a higher low post defending YVAH 29,760, where initiative buyers were found. The lack of traction by sellers beyond inventory correction resulted in buyers keeping control and ultimately set the foundation for a late week multi-day breakout.

Back in March, we launched Stock Picks as a natural extension of everything we already do here; reading market context, understanding the state of the auction and sentiment as they shift. We applied the same lens and added in-depth research to individual names/stocks.

The thesis was simple: markets don’t move in isolation. This past week was a textbook example of what a multi-week balance breakout looks like and one that must be journaled for future use case as we know market character often rhymes. This breakout wasn’t anticipated and the speed less so, but that’s precisely why it is important to adapt to the ebbs and flows of this market. Bias should have costed no more than the first trading session of the week, the remainder 4 sessions were as textbook as you’d want. A classic continuation of trend on Tuesday with yet another Gap up and Gap n Go. While the next 2 sessions were consolidation after a +250 Point run across Monday/Tuesday. We were well positioned on Tuesday with Long following the Gap Rules at 7,660 and Wednesday with picking yet another swing high at 7,818, that brought in a partial structural repair. A week where learning and the importance of adapting came together making yet another strong week.

What Happened Last Week

The week kicked off with initiative buyers taking control on Monday with a Gap above the proprietary Balance (7,354 - 7,522) resulting in a trend session into ATH at 7,632, setting the stage of a multi-week breakout. Tuesday confirmed buyers strength with another Gap above prior ATH, which brought in another trend session, resulting in a thin structure and upside exhaustion 7,780 - 7,830. Wednesday opened on a Gap up, however, buyers failed to accelerate during IB period resulting in an inventory correction post IB Period breakdown, which led to a partial repair of the poor structure on Thursday and Friday. The failed Gap up on Wednesday meant, ES consolidated within Tuesday’s upper distribution.

The most notable development occurred on Wednesday where ES in spite of opening on a true gap up failed to accelerate during Period B or post IB Period, a character that was recurring on both Monday and Tuesday. With Exhaustion triggered and lack of traction by Gap buyers including the early look below and fail of the Open, was indicative of a potential reversal considering the multiple sets of single prints below.

Structural Outcome & Way Forward

From hereon, the key is to observe whether buyers can sustain the multi-week balance breakout and build value within Tuesday’s range for yet another continuation higher OR will buyer exhaustion result in repairing the poor structure and backtesting the multi-week balance top.

• Overview: The first sign of aggressive buyer strength will be to reclaim Friday’s high and build value above to continue the trend higher. In the event a reversal is seen first, then response to be gauged at Weekly VAL 7,724. The response will be the first real clue to observe. Do responsive buyers appear at Weekly VAL and initiate the next leg up or a weak response results in continued repair of Tuesday’s structure.

• Short Term: Buyers remain in control with a multi-gap breakout of the 12WK Balance and the recent 3D Balance post pullback strengthens the immediate structure. Sustaining above Weekly VAL and subsequently Friday’s VAH continues the trend higher. Failure to hold Weekly VAL 7,724 and intraday/week sellers initiate the poor structure formed due to the 2D breakout.

The week kicked off with initiative buyers taking control on Monday with a defence and excess low at Weekly VAH 28,381, resulting in a reclaim of the proprietary balance (28,708 - 29,912), setting stage for a balance rotation to the top. Tuesday confirmed buyers strength with a Gap open above prior unfilled Gap at 29,090, which brought in another trend session, resulting in a thin structure and Balance rotation complete to 29,912. Wednesday opened above prior sessions VAH, however, initiative buyers met with Resistance at 30,036/74. Ultimately resulted in a buyer led exhaustion reversal, breaking below IB Low for a partial repair of the poor structure on Thursday and ended with the weekly inside Tuesday’s B/O Session range.

The most notable development occurred on Wednesday where NQ in spite of opening above previous session’s VAH failed to accelerate during Period B or post IB Period, a character that was recurring on both Monday and Tuesday. With Resistance triggered and lack of traction by initiative buyers including the two backtests of VAH, was indicative of a potential reversal considering the multiple sets of single prints below.

In the event a reversal is seen first, then response to be gauged at Weekly VAL 29,467. The response will be the first real clue to observe. Do responsive buyers appear and initiate the next leg up or a weak response results in Gap fill towards Monday’s High.

• Short Term: Buyers in control of the auction within the ongoing multi-month balance and the recent higher low strengthens the immediate structure given the week ended inside last week’s upper distribution. Sustaining inside Friday’s range and subsequently Weekly VAH continues the rotation higher. Failure to build value above 29,942 and intraday/week sellers get another attempt toward Gap at 29,090 and 28,964.

The week kicked off with buyers firmly in control, with ES opening on a gap above the 7,522 Balance Top, while NQ held its Weekly VAH, aligning with initiative buying across both indices. The character remained similar on Monday and Tuesday, with buyers initiating IB breakouts, followed by OTFU and continued defence of the London Close. However, the back-to-back acceleration, particularly the gaps in ES and the full balance rotation in NQ completed, suggested that the upside was becoming increasingly exhausted, given the magnitude of the move in such a short period of time.

This ultimately resulted in 30,037/74 Resistance marking the highs for the week, while ES topped out at 7,818, firmly within the 7,780–7,830 Upside Exhaustion region. From there, the flow shifted. Both ES and NQ ultimately ended the week inside Tuesday’s upper distribution, with Wednesday’s open effectively becoming a look above and fail. The below review will highlight how every important turn in the auction happened at the levels shared on Sunday. What Happened Last Week

The week kicked off with sellers holding prior Thursday’s Gap down and Monday’s session developed into a b-shaped profile. Thereafter ES held below prior week’s VAL (7,457) into FOMC release on Wednesday, while first weekly support at 7,408/15 marking session lows on Monday & Tuesday. Post FOMC, ES marked an initial look above 7,457 and fail at 7,472 (Prior FOMC Low), which resulted in a liquidation break toward Balance Low 7,345. Thursday’s open was inside Wednesday’s value and subsequently held IB lows on pullbacks meant late sellers were trapped and initiated a recovery into Gap at 7,525 by end of Friday’s session, completing the balance rotation (7,345 - 7,522).

The most notable development occurred on Thursday where ES in spite of finding post FOMC liquidation break failed to break Balance Low (7,345/54) neither found traction during the following overnight session. Instead London session held 7,345/54 to initiate a recovery. How did we know sellers lost the ball? ES broadly held below Weekly VAL all week yet failed to achieve a break below balance.

Structural Outcome & Way Forward

From hereon, the key is to observe whether buyers can sustain the fresh momentum off Balance Low 7,345 to build above last week’s value OR will sellers take control of the auction after repairing the Gap at 7,525 - all within the ongoing HTF Balance.

• Overview: The first sign of aggressive buyer strength will be to hold Friday’s range and build value above Weekly VAH to continue the trend higher initiated off Wednesday’s Low. In the event a reversal is seen first, then response to be gauged Weekly Value Gap fill at 7,482. The response will be the first real clue to observe. Do responsive buyers appear on Gap fill and initiate the next leg up or a weak response results in rotation within Friday’s Range/Weekly Value.

• Short Term: Buyers have taken interim control as of close on Friday as that is because ES printed an excess low on Friday and has built value above Wednesday’s breakdown session, ending the week back inside prior week’s value. What Happened Last Week

The week kicked off with buyers first attempting a structural repair towards Open Gaps. It’s noteworthy both the gap fill attempts on Monday (29,078) and Tuesday (29,215/60) found weak sellers, instead NQ explored inside the range and then found sellers on a Look inside and fail. Monday formed an Excess High near Weekly VAL 29,215, whereas Tuesday found sellers at Upside Pivot 29,344/87 marking highs of the week. Ultimately sellers gained control after a look inside and fail of last week’s value, resulting in a new low of the week on Friday.

The most notable development occurred on Wednesday with a follow through on Thursday, when NQ marked its second attempt back inside last week’s value on the back of a lower low after a failed value gap down and instead printed a lower high, indicated buyers lacked strength. Thereafter, Thursday’s Gap down session validated Wednesday’s auction, with Gap Open defence unable to reclaim Monday’s VAL (Monday was KEY as it led the recovery attempt in NQ).

The first was from last Friday’s session at 7,548, which found Gap fill sellers and printed lower high against Friday’s Excess Low 7,474. Buyers marked another attempt towards the next Gap (Value Gap) at Weekly VAL (7,562) into Wednesday, which once again found Gap fill sellers. Thereafter, Thursday’s session brought in initiative sellers with open on a Gap down strengthening sellers, resulting in a sweep of 7,470s and a rotation towards Excess Low at 7,408. Ultimately triggered a late week downside exhaustion to end the week below last week’s low.

The most notable development occurred on Thursday where ES being below Weekly VAL, gapped down back inside the prior 2WK Balance (7,345 - 7,522), resulting in 3x seller control. Buyers did attempt a defence at Gap Open (7,453) to initiate an inventory correction, but failed with multiple attempts resulting in lower highs. Thus, resulting in rotation back to 7,408 the recent Excess Low, where underlying demand was found.
