There is a document already signed. A promise already made, standing over a field of the freshly dead at Gettysburg, long before there was a Democratic National Committee, before donor classes and consultants and cable panels got to decide who counted as “serious.” An American president reduced the entire American experiment to three prepositions.

Of the people.

By the people.

For the people.

(Lincoln, 1863)

Not of the donors. Not by the insiders. Not for the party. That sentence was never a slogan. It was a diagnostic. And I want you to start running it — I call it OBF — on every politician, every policy, every law, every government, starting now, for the rest of your life.

Here is how The OBF Test works. Three questions, asked of anything claiming legitimacy in American public life:

OF — Where did this power actually originate? From people who showed up, or from people who had already decided?

BY — Who is actually running this — the public, or the public’s self-appointed managers?

FOR — Who benefits when it lands? The many, or the few who were already thriving?

Run it on a candidate. Run it on a redistricting map. Run it on a primary calendar, a debate schedule, a fundraising agreement, a war. Most of what calls itself democratic will not survive all three questions asked honestly and in order.

I am not writing this to make a case for Marianne Williamson. I have known her for years, and my opinion of her is beside the point. I am writing because her two campaigns, and what was done to them, are the cleanest OBF failure available for public inspection — proof the test works, running in real time, on a woman most of the country was told to laugh at.

Start with 2016, the year before either of them announced. She has said this plainly, and I believe her: two men that year looked at the same wound in the American electorate and told the truth about it in different directions (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). One meant it. One found it useful. Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump were answering the same question — the economy failed you, and your anger is not imaginary — and the Democratic establishment, by Williamson’s account, never fully understood what that moment required of it (Krasno & Williamson, 2026).

We know some of what happened next because it leaked, and because the woman who ran the party admitted the rest herself. Internal Democratic National Committee emails surfaced in the summer of 2016 showing staff discord over neutrality, and DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned days before the convention. Interim chair Donna Brazile later wrote that she found a joint fundraising agreement, signed in August 2015 — six months before a single primary vote was cast — giving the Clinton campaign final say over the party’s hiring, budgeting, and strategy (Brazile, 2017). “Not illegal,” Brazile called it, “but it sure looked unethical.” Asked directly whether the primary had been rigged, Elizabeth Warren told CNN one word: yes.

Run OF on that. Where did the power originate? Not with the people who showed up to vote in February. With an agreement signed the August before, months before any of them had their say. OBF fails before the polls even open. Call it what it is: a party built on the word “of” running a backroom that answered to donors instead.

Williamson entered her own race in 2019 promising something almost nobody else on that debate stage would say out loud: that reparations for slavery were a debt, not charity, and a debt gets paid whatever the number turns out to be. “Whatever it costs,” she told a CNN town hall that spring, “it’s time to do this” (Ballasy, 2019). That was the whole argument, months before anyone asked her to price it. When a moderator later pressed her for a figure, she gave one — $200 to $500 billion, paid out over twenty years, with a council of thirty to fifty descendants of enslaved people, not politicians, deciding how it actually moved — because unlike every rival on that stage offering a commission to study the question further, she was willing to go first and get it wrong in public if that’s what it took. You do not have to agree with her math to recognize what she did with the floor she was given. The number was never the point. The debt was the point.

Bernie Sanders, whom I supported and still respect, gave a different answer three years earlier: reparations, he said, would be “very divisive,” and the better path was investment in distressed communities generally (Qiu, 2016). I have not heard him quite the same way since. Williamson did not win her argument either. She forced it into a presidential debate that had spent generations agreeing to leave it in the hallway.

I was there. She was open, and she was listening — genuinely listening — in a room that was not built for it. Every descendant of a formerly enslaved American owed it to our ancestors to at least listen back. Foundational Black Americans did not owe her a presidency for saying it. But something changed the day a door that had been nailed shut got kicked open on national television, and nobody in that race has been able to fully close it since. She earned our help ramming that door the rest of the way. We failed to give it. Now we get to sit and watch the current regime burn over a billion dollars a day on unapproved war.

She ran again in 2023, and this is where the file gets thinner and the silence gets louder. By her own account, an FBI briefing was held regarding infiltration of her 2024 campaign — a fact she learned about her own operation from federal investigators, not from her own party (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). The DNC treated Joe Biden’s renomination as effectively settled before voters had their say, according to Williamson, and she has called that posture what it is: suppressing democracy in the name of saving it from Trump (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). A White House press secretary once dismissed her candidacy in public as something she was “just not tracking.” Her campaign was shut out of meetings with the party’s own youth wing. This is not a metaphor for institutional gatekeeping. It is institutional gatekeeping, with a paper trail.

Run BY on that one.

Who was actually running the primary — the voters, or the people managing the outcome the voters were going to be permitted to reach? Second failure. And spare me the both-sides mourning tour some of these same officials are currently on, warning us about authoritarianism, as if the dress rehearsal didn’t happen in their own building.

Now I want to be careful here, because Williamson herself is careful here, and I trust her instinct more than I trust the easy version of this story. She does not let her own party off with a simple villain. That’s too easy, and if you know anything about this remarkable human being, you know she doesn’t do what’s “easy”; she does what it takes to get the job done. So, she pointed out the fact that Barack Obama took office with Congress in Democratic hands, that Biden briefly had the same advantage, and that Republicans tend to treat a win as a mandate to act. At the same time, Democrats have too often treated a win as a request for permission (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). And in one of the sharper moments of a recent conversation, when credited with rescuing the economy after the 2008 collapse, her question was not rhetorical: rescued whom? Her answer was Wall Street, not Main Street (Krasno & Williamson, 2026).

Obama rescued Wall Street. Get it right!

Imagine that. You can hold two thoughts about a man at once. You can respect what he built and still ask whether, at the one moment his party held every lever of government, the moment called for something structurally larger than what got built. Adults are supposed to be able to do that. Democracy requires it.

FOR is where this gets less comfortable for everyone, not just Democrats.

Williamson’s economics were never the ideological costume the press dressed her in. Ask her about markets and enterprise, and she defends them. Her line about it amounts to something like this: build the factory, create the jobs, circulate the wealth — and no, that does not entitle you to poison the river the next town drinks from (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). That is not socialism. It is the oldest idea in American civic life, the one embedded in Lincoln’s third preposition: government exists partly to answer for whom the outcome actually works.

And she keeps returning to Franklin Roosevelt — an economic bill of rights, universal healthcare, tuition-free college, an unapologetic floor under working people — not because the ideas are new, but because the party that once ran on them, in her telling, forgot how (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). Ask her for one sentence that holds the whole platform together, and she reaches for the oldest American promise there is: government of the people, by the people, for the people, judged by whether human beings actually get to thrive (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). She did not coin those words. She is simply one of the only people left in national politics still trying to run the country through them. Roosevelt would be proud of Marianne Williamson.

Near the end of that same conversation, she says something about herself that I have not been able to put down. She talks about the caricature — the crystals, the crazy, the unserious woman — and observes that the people working hardest to build that caricature never actually believed it themselves. They know who she is. They see that the American People would identify with everything she was coming with for them. She had what they wanted and so desperately needed then and now. Hers was and is an authentic, earnest voice of, by, and for the American people. That is precisely why they worked so hard to character assassinate her and suppress her campaign (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). An argument you can beat, you beat. An argument you cannot beat, you redefine the person making it. We have run this play on prophets, on whistleblowers, on the inconveniently right, since long before Gettysburg. We tend to love our truth-tellers only once they are safely dead, framed on a wall, no longer able to ask us anything in return. That cowardice and disingenuousness is what helped them succeed in suppressing the Marianne2024 campaign. They did not just harm Marianne; they have hurt us all, even those of us who were tricked into voting against our own best interests.

Marianne could have then spent what came after 2024 being bitter. Who could have blamed her? I recall a podcast where she and Nina Turner described what they went through at the hands of their party as an ‘acid bath’. She could have sulked on away to eventually become what Marianne describes as “an angry, bitter old woman”. She chose something harder. She says DNC chair Ken Martin later brought her to party headquarters and apologized for how she had been treated, and promised it would not happen to the next Democrat who dared run (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). Her only regret is that she never got him to say it out loud, in public, where the rest of us could hold the party to it. Forgiveness without memory is just repression with better manners. She offered the first without surrendering the second — loyalty without obedience, forgiveness without amnesia — and continues insisting, as a Democrat, that her own party owes itself an honest accounting if it intends to survive (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). That is not betrayal. That is what it actually looks like to love an institution enough to tell it the truth. And if we don’t get real damned honest–all of us, now together- it’s over.

This is where I keep landing on an older, plainer register than politics — the register this country reaches for at its most honest hours, in inaugural addresses, in farewell speeches, in the two minutes at Gettysburg, when love and country get spoken about in the same breath because there was never really a way to separate them.

”I was summoned by my country,” one president said at its very beginning, “whose voice I can never hear but with veneration and love” (Washington, 1789). How can we love our country, another asked two centuries later, and not love our countrymen (Reagan, 1981). This, a third said only a few years ago, is a country we love with all our hearts (Biden, 2021). You cannot love your country only when you win, said the same man, on his way out the door (Biden, 2024). As long as the American people hold in their hearts a devoted love of country, said yet another, on his own way out, there is nothing this nation cannot achieve (Trump, 2021).

Love is not the “soft” part of politics…until a woman says it?

They rarely agree on anything else. They agree on this. Every one of them, of every party, reached for the same word when the cameras were on and the stakes were highest, because on some level every single one of them understood what Williamson has been saying since before most of the country would take her seriously: that love is not the soft part of politics. It may be the only part that was ever load-bearing.

Which brings the test all the way home, because OBF was never really about Marianne Williamson. It was about whether we intend to keep using it after this essay ends. Run it on the redistricting maps quietly redrawn across Texas, Florida, and Ohio, tightening a razor-thin House margin before a single vote is cast in 2026 (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). Run it on the rise of candidates like Zohran Mamdani and a Democratic Socialists of America surge that Williamson reads not as a lurch to the fringe but as the party finding its way back toward FDR (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). Run it on the next law, the next nominee, the next donor-class compromise dressed up as pragmatism. OF. BY. FOR. Ask it of Republicans. Ask it of Democrats. The test does not care which side of the aisle is failing it; it was written before either side existed.

Williamson keeps a countdown running on her Substack — an actual ticking clock, counting the days left until the 2026 midterms, because she has said plainly that this fall may be the last genuinely contestable election before 2028 (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). Run OF on that clock. It didn’t appear because a consultant thought it would trend. It appeared because a woman who has watched this machine from inside and outside decided the country needed a visible, ticking reminder that the deadline is not theoretical. So let me turn the anger up here, on purpose, because turning it up after the returns are counted is a coward’s schedule.

To everyone who pulled a lever in 2024 for an agenda now actively working against your own paycheck, your own healthcare, your own kid’s future: I see you. History is not going to let you off easy, and neither am I. You were sold anger as medicine and mistook the sugar for the cure. That is not an unforgivable sin. It is a correctable one — but only if you show up and correct it, instead of sitting out the correction the way you sat out the warning.

To everyone who sat 2024 out entirely — who told a pollster, a friend, a mirror, that it didn’t matter, that both sides were the same, that one vote inside a rigged system couldn’t move anything — hear this clearly. The system is flawed. Gerrymandered, underfunded, deliberately confusing, and in places openly hostile to the people it is supposed to serve. None of that is in dispute anywhere in this essay. And that flawed, exhausting, imperfect right is exactly the machinery the people antithetical to OBF are working hardest to break. Nobody redraws maps across Texas, Florida, and Ohio to strangle a razor-thin House margin because your vote is powerless (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). They are doing it because it isn’t. Nobody spends this much money and this much political capital suppressing something that doesn’t matter.

And to everyone who did show up — who stood in line, who mailed the ballot, who dragged a reluctant neighbor to the polls — credit where it is due, in full, no asterisk. You did the one thing this entire essay has been arguing is the whole point. “Of the people” only works if the people actually turn up to be counted as the “of.”

Here is the one fact none of us gets to negotiate: you will not be here forever. Nobody is. So while you are still breathing, still standing, still able to walk into a room and mark a name, make your voice heard please for God’s sake. Say “I matter” while you can still say anything at all — because your vote, cast and counted and on the record, is the one thing you get to leave behind that keeps saying it after you’re gone: “I mattered. I was here. I showed up.”

And if you couldn’t manage even that — if thirty flawed, imperfect minutes out of your one life was too much to give — then do the rest of us a favor and shut the hell up.

You don’t get to skip the test and then grade the paper!

Here is the part Williamson is not being coy about, and neither will I be. In that same conversation she and Krasno walk through what is already lining up around this fall’s election: a Justice Department under new attorney general Todd Blanche, and the live prospect of ICE and National Guard presence at or near polling places (Krasno & Williamson, 2026). Sit with that sentence before you move past it. Not troops guarding a ballot count from foreign interference. Troops and immigration enforcement positioned near the doors where American citizens are supposed to walk in, unafraid, and hand over the one piece of paper that still legally outranks every man in a suit.

Run OBF on that plan itself, because a plan is a policy too. OF — whose interest does a National Guard presence at a polling place actually serve, the voter’s or the incumbent’s? BY — who decided this was necessary, and did anyone ask the people who will be standing in that line? FOR — who benefits when turnout in certain neighborhoods drops because standing near a folding table with a flag on it now means standing near federal agents? You already know the answer. It fails all three questions on purpose, because failing you on purpose is the entire design.

So here is my answer to that design, and it is not a memo. It is a movement, and it needs a name, so I am giving it one: the OBF Movement. Not a march. A landing. Millions turned out for No Kings, three separate times, culminating in more than eight million people at over 3,300 sites across the country this past March — organizers called it the largest single-day demonstration in American history (No Kings protests, 2026). That was extraordinary. It was also a Saturday.

November is not a Saturday. November is the machine itself, and the machine does not care how many people showed up to yell at it from the sidewalk. It only counts what gets fed directly into it. So I want the sidewalk in the parking lot instead. I want No Kings numbers walking into precincts, not past them. I want turnout so enormous, so undeniable, so wall-to-wall American, that the same people trying to station intimidation at the door have to explain to the cameras why eight, nine, ten million more people showed up specifically because they tried that.

We are not anybody’s God forsaken subjects here! We were never supposed to be. We, the People, are the damned boss of America — not the DNC, not the RNC, not a donor class, not an attorney general, not a uniform standing where a poll worker used to stand alone. It is time we show up, show out, and blow any doubt about who actually runs this country clean out of the water.

We did not lose a candidate in 2020 and 2024. We lost the chance to test a governing imagination against reality instead of against a caricature. We lost the chance to find out, honestly, whether a politics organized around love could hold up under the weight of an actual presidency. We debated instead whether the woman offering it was too much. That was never a fair trade, and hindsight does not un-cash the check.

With malice toward none, with charity for all, a war-exhausted president once asked his country to finish the work it was still in (Lincoln, 1865). He did not live to see whether we would. Neither will any of us see the whole of what we owe the people this test was written to protect. But the test itself does not expire. It sits there, unrun, on every ballot, every bill, every nominee, waiting for someone to actually apply it before the history books do it for us.

Of the people.

By the people.

For the people.

OBF

Run it. Then run it again. That is the whole assignment, from here on out.

until one day—

Something invisible

has decided

to continue itself.

And perhaps

that is what prayer

has been doing

all along.

Not begging.

Not bargaining.

Not shouting

into some enormous distance

hoping God

might hear us.

Perhaps prayer

is the moment

we enter the pattern

we desire to see continued.

Love

propagating Love.

Courage

propagating Courage.

Mercy

propagating Mercy.

Truth

propagating Truth.

Life

propagating Life.

One human being

becoming the cutting

placed gently

into the waters

of another.

One word

taking root.

One kindness

multiplying.

One act of courage

making courage

more available

in the world.

One person remembering

who they are

and somehow

another person

remembers too.

THAT.

That is prayer.

Not:

Please send peace.

But:

Peace,

propagate through me.

Not:

Please send healing.

But:

Healing,

find passage here.

Not:

Please send justice.

But:

Justice,

take root

in these hands.

Not:

Please send Love.

But:

Love,

multiply.

Through me.

Through us.

Through whoever

touches what we touch.

Through whoever

hears what we speak.

Through whoever

watches us refuse

to become

what harmed us.

This is not passive.

A seed is not passive.

Do not confuse

stillness

with inactivity.

Whole forests

begin underground.

Roots move

where eyes

cannot follow.

Cells divide.

Waters carry.

Pollen travels.

Breath enters breath.

Something is always

continuing itself.

So we ask now:

What are we

propagating?

When we enter a room—

what multiplies?

When we speak—

what takes root?

When we touch

another life—

what continues

after we leave?

Fear propagates.

Cruelty propagates.

Shame propagates.

Violence propagates.

Lies know how

to reproduce themselves.

We have seen that.

Again.

Again.

Again.

But they are not

the only things

with seeds.

Joy has seeds.

Truth has seeds.

Beauty has seeds.

Liberation has seeds.

Tenderness has seeds.

Holy audacity

has seeds.

And so do we.

Maybe this is why

we have survived

what should have

ended us.

Because something

was being carried.

Ancestor

to child.

Hand

to hand.

Song

to song.

Story

to story.

Prayer

to prayer.

A living thing

refusing

to stop living.

So today

we do not merely pray

for the world.

We recognize

that the world

is already being

propagated

through us.

Every thought

we nourish.

Every word

we repeat.

Every wound

we transmit

or transform.

Every vision

we embody.

Every pattern

we interrupt.

Every pattern

we continue.

The question is no longer:

Will the prayer

be answered?

The question is:

What will this prayer

become

once it enters us?

Will it stop

at our mouths?

Or will it grow legs?

Hands?

Backbone?

Will it become bread?

Shelter?

Witness?

Art?

Refusal?

Protection?

A phone call.

A door opened.

A truth spoken

at exactly

the inconvenient moment

when silence

would have been easier.

Will somebody

encounter us

and receive

a cutting

from something

we have learned

to grow?

And will they

place it

into the waters

of their own life

until roots appear?

Then they carry it.

And someone else

carries it.

And someone else.

And someone else.

Now we understand

the LOOP differently.

It was never merely

the same thing

coming back.

It was Life

continuing itself.

Changing form.

Gathering experience.

Returning enriched.

Seed.

Root.

Flower.

Fruit.

Seed.

Again.

But never

the same again.

Prayer

is not a message

we throw

toward God.

Prayer may be

one of the ways

God moves

through creation.

A pattern

released

into matter.

A remembrance

given breath.

A possibility

given body.

And when we speak it—

when we mean it—

when we live it—

the prayer

does not end

with Amen.

That may be

where it begins.

I see it now.

We see it now.

I receive it now.

We receive it now.

I live it now.

We live it now.

And now—

we propagate it.

Again.

We propagate it.

Again.

We propagate it.

Until Love

is no longer

an isolated event.

Until courage

is no longer

a rare occurrence.

Until liberation

is no longer

a beautiful idea

waiting for permission.

Until somebody

we may never meet

is living differently

because something

passed through us

and kept going.

At 11:11,

we do not ask

only:

What will manifest?

We ask:

What has been entrusted

to us

to continue?

What seed

has reached our hands?

What root

is already forming

beneath what

we cannot yet see?

And what if

the prayer

we thought

we were waiting

to receive

has already

entered us?

Then—

God,

Life,

Love,

Whatever Name

opens the door—

do not merely

answer this prayer.

Propagate it.

Through us.

Beyond us.

Into places

our bodies

will never enter.

Into children

we will never meet.

Into mornings

we will never see.

Into futures

that will never know

our names

but will contain

something

we helped keep alive.

And when it reaches them,

What happens
at the intersection?

And who am I

Arkansas State Police Trooper Moisses Arellano stopped 18-year-old Alisa N. Hackett near Manila, Arkansas.

The encounter escalated.

She was taken to the ground.

And according to the trooper’s own use-of-force report, he delivered a closed-fist strike to the left side of her face while attempting to gain compliance.

Then comes a phrase I cannot get past:

“No visible facial injuries noted.”

Read that again.

She was struck in the face.

But apparently we are supposed to derive some comfort from the fact that injury was not readily visible.

I don’t.

Because “no visible injury” is a statement about what somebody could see. It is NOT a statement that violence did not occur.

And for Black women and girls, that distinction deserves far more scrutiny than America has historically been willing to give it.

This story is taking me somewhere much deeper.

Back through medicine.

Back through policing.

Back through the peculiar American history of looking at Black female pain and somehow seeing less.

Back even through one small incident in my own life, decades ago, while playing Tituba in The Crucible, when a makeup person casually suggested that the stage “dirt” being applied to the other actors wouldn’t really show on my skin anyway.

I remember standing there and declaring:

MY FACE IS NOT THE SAME COLOR AS DIRT.

I understood something then that I am returning to now.

What does America actually see when it looks at a Black woman?

And what has it been trained not to see?

This Arkansas traffic stop is only the beginning of what I intend to examine.

Because I have another phrase for something I believe we desperately need to understand:

Alert Detroit officers interrupted a kidnapping—and left every community a lesson in practiced safety

Before this story travels around social media again, its date must travel with it.

This rescue did not happen this week. It happened on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in Detroit, Michigan.

That morning, four siblings were walking to school when a woman driving a stolen white van approached them. According to Detroit police and contemporaneous news reporting, the children entered the vehicle and were driven away from their neighborhood. Surveillance footage later captured the van leaving the area (WXYZ-TV, 2021).

The children’s ages were reported differently during the first days of coverage. An early Detroit Police Department account described them as ranging from approximately 6 to 10 years old. Later reporting identified them as 5, 7, 8 and 11. That discrepancy should be acknowledged rather than silently repeated as settled fact (FOX 2 Detroit, 2021; WXYZ-TV, 2021).

A traffic violation became a rescue

Detroit Police Officers Parrish and Flannel, assigned to the Eighth Precinct, reportedly saw the van run a red light near Grand River Avenue and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver told the officers she was rushing the children to school. But when questioned, she could not provide a convincing answer about which school they attended.

Something did not sit right.

Detroit Police Chief James White later explained that the officers asked the driver whether the children belonged to her. She said yes—but the children reportedly shook their heads no at the same time. The officers separated the driver from the children, detained her and brought the four siblings to safety (WXYZ-TV, 2021).

An earlier police account described the officers speaking directly with the oldest child and asking whether he knew the woman. The child reportedly indicated that he did not. These accounts differ slightly in sequence, but both support the central fact: the officers noticed inconsistencies, questioned what they were seeing and acted before releasing that vehicle back onto the street (Detroit Police Department, 2021; Police Magazine, 2021).

The woman, identified in news reports as Stephanie Marie Binder, was subsequently charged with multiple offenses, including four counts related to kidnapping or child enticement and four counts of unlawful imprisonment. A criminal charge is an accusation, not a conviction, and any final court disposition should be separately verified before being reported as fact (FOX 2 Detroit, 2021).

The children were returned safely to their mother.

That outcome was not produced by luck alone.

It was produced by officers who did not treat a red-light stop as merely another ticket. They observed. They listened. They questioned. They noticed that the adult’s explanation and the children’s body language did not agree.

Officers Parrish and Flannel did more than stop a van. They interrupted a possible path toward irreversible harm.

The deeper lesson: Children need practiced words, not only warnings

Many children are taught, “Don’t talk to strangers.”

That phrase is easy to remember—but it is not enough.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children advises families to move beyond broad “stranger danger” warnings. A person seeking access to a child may appear friendly, helpful or familiar. Children need to understand that the central safety question is not simply, Do I know this person? It is:

Do I have permission from my trusted adult to go anywhere with this person?

Children should also know which adults may be approached when help is needed, such as a uniformed officer, a clearly identified employee or a parent accompanied by children (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 2023).

THE THREE DAILY POWER POINTS

Three minutes before leaving home can help create a Great, Safe Day

Parents, caregivers and children can review these three points every morning:

1. KNOW

I know where I am going, who I am going with and who is allowed to pick me up.

A child should never change destinations, accept an unexpected ride or leave with another person without checking with the designated caregiver first—even when the person claims that a parent sent them.

2. SAY

I may say NO loudly, move away and call attention to myself.

Children are allowed to refuse an adult. They do not owe politeness to someone who is pressuring, grabbing, following, confusing or frightening them.

Useful words include:

“NO! I DON’T KNOW YOU!”

“THIS IS NOT MY PARENT!”

“HELP! CALL 911!”

“I AM BEING TAKEN!”

Those words tell bystanders that the situation is not an ordinary family disagreement.

3. TELL

I will tell a trusted adult immediately—even if someone told me to keep it secret, threatened me or said I would get in trouble.

Children should hear this repeatedly:

“You will never be punished for telling me that someone made you uncomfortable, frightened you, touched you, followed you or asked you to keep a dangerous secret.”

Safety conversations work best when repeated early and often, rather than delivered once after something frightening appears in the news (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 2024).

The FBI’s Child ID resources allow caregivers to retain current photographs and identifying information that can be provided quickly to law enforcement if a child disappears. The FBI states that this information remains on the caregiver’s device unless the caregiver chooses to share it (Federal Bureau of Investigation, n.d.).

IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TAKE YOU

A child who is still in a public place should create distance and attract immediate attention.

Yell specific words.

“THIS IS NOT MY PARENT!” is clearer than screaming alone.

Move toward people and staffed places.

Run into a store, school, library, restaurant, office, fire station or another populated location.

Drop to the ground if grabbed.

Become difficult to lift or move. Hold onto a fixed object when possible.

Make noise.

Kick, shout, activate a personal alarm, knock items over or draw attention by any available means.

Leave evidence when possible.

A backpack, jacket, shoe or personal item dropped in a visible location may help show where the encounter occurred—but a child should never pause to retrieve property when escape is possible.

Tell immediately after getting free.

Call 911 or direct a specific person: “You in the blue shirt—call 911.”

Children should practice these responses calmly through brief family role-play. The goal is not to frighten them. The goal is to prevent fear from stealing their words when those words matter most.

IF YOUR CHILD IS MISSING

Call 911 immediately. Do not wait 24 hours.

The FBI states that a child does not need to have been missing for 24 hours before authorities may become involved in a suspected kidnapping or mysterious disappearance (Federal Bureau of Investigation, n.d.).

The child’s full name, age and physical description

What the child was wearing

The exact time and place last seen

Names of companions or witnesses

Phone, gaming, messaging and social-media information

Medical, developmental or communication needs

Recent family conflict, custody concerns or unusual contact

Vehicle descriptions, direction of travel and available video

Preserve the child’s room, devices, messages and belongings unless police instruct otherwise. Do not delete communications. Ask neighbors and businesses to preserve doorbell, security and traffic-camera recordings immediately because some systems overwrite footage quickly.

After contacting law enforcement, families may contact the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST, or 1-800-843-5678, for case support and recovery resources. NCMEC provides prevention and response assistance for families and child-serving professionals (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, n.d.).

IF YOU WITNESS SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT LOOK RIGHT

Do not assume that someone else will act.

Call 911 when you reasonably believe a child is being forced, restrained, followed, lured or taken.

Observe from a safe position and report:

Exact location and direction of movement

Number and description of people involved

Vehicle color, make, model and license plate

Distinctive clothing, damage, stickers or markings

What you heard the adult or child say

Whether the child appeared frightened, injured or controlled

Do not post unverified accusations or identifying details online before speaking with law enforcement. Public speculation can misidentify innocent people, expose a child’s private information or interfere with an active investigation.

Be a witness, not a rumor mill.

COMMUNITY SAFETY IS A SHARED PRACTICE

A safer community is not created solely by telling children to be careful.

Adults must build the protective circle.

Schools should maintain clear pickup authorization procedures. Neighbors should know which children routinely walk together. Businesses should train employees to respond when a child asks for help. Families should identify safe locations along daily routes. Drivers and pedestrians should pay attention when a child’s behavior suggests fear, resistance or distress.

And when something does not add up, responsible adults must be willing to ask one more question.

That is what Officers Parrish and Flannel did.

Four children returned home because two officers recognized that the story spoken by an adult did not match the truth being communicated by the children.

Sometimes vigilance looks dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like a traffic stop, a careful observation and one necessary question:

“Are these your children?”

Let this story be shared accurately. Let the officers be honored. Let the children’s courage be remembered.

Most importantly, let the rescue become instruction.

Talk about safety.

Practice safety.

Build safety into the ordinary rhythm of every day.

I'm asking because I looked up the word "nigger" in a dictionary when I was five years old. It describes the organizers and marchers of this even perfectly.

A Teachable Moment About Language, Bait — and the March Planned for Minneapolis

A flyer is circulating right now advertising an August 22 "Freedom of Speech Rally" at Minneapolis City Hall under a title deliberately built to bait: "Nigger March." The promotion names some far-right provocateur as organizer and some other character as an invited speaker.

I've found the organizer's public promotion of this event. I have not found confirmation that the City of Minneapolis has issued a permit or approved use of City Hall grounds — so I'll describe it accurately as advertised, not yet as city-authorized. That's not a hedge. That's just how you report a story straight.

Now here's my question, and I want an answer:

What color are the niqqers who'll be marching?

Pale ones? Brown ones? Black ones? Beige, orange, plaid?

Because I stopped assuming that word automatically means Black person a long time ago. I have receipts on why, and I'm going to lay them out.

What I Read — And What I Did With It

Fifty-five-plus years ago, as a young, precocious Black girl, I looked that word up in the dictionary. The entry described an ignorant, stupid, lazy, shiftless person. I will never forget the full bodied sigh of relief I experienced that day.

When I read the true definition of that word, I made a decision on the spot: I was none of those things, and I never intended to become any of those things. Which meant the word could never truthfully define me — no matter whose mouth aimed it at me.

The only ignorant person in that transaction was the one trying to hand me their ignorance. I handed it right back. This was a sacred REVELATION for me. The true ignorance, lazy, shiftless niqqers have been revealing themselves openly ever since I recognized who the word is actually describing.

I distinguished myself by my seeing my own caliber in stark contrast to the spell/lie cast. That was my covenant with myself as a child, and I've kept it. I don't need a dictionary's permission to hold that position, and I'm not walking it back to satisfy anyone who wants to relitigate a Black woman's memory.

My Memory Isn't Standing Alone — Here Are the Receipts

Merriam-Webster now states publicly that its historical files don't support "ignorant person" as this word's original meaning (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). Fine. Noted. That is a statement about their archive. It is not proof that no dictionary, ever, printed the broader definition — and here's why that distinction matters: "Webster's" was never a trademarked lock on one publisher. After the name entered common use, dozens of unrelated publishers — school editions, household editions, paperback and abridged dictionaries — slapped "Webster's" on the cover. A child pulling one off a shelf had no reason to check the copyright page.

And I'm not the only one who remembers this.

Ri'Chard Magee, writing in The Washington Post in 1997 — nearly three decades before this current controversy resurfaced online — recalled learning from dictionaries that the word described "a lazy, insolent and stupid person" (Magee, 1997).

A preserved 1997 exchange involving Merriam-Webster's own editor in chief documents that the company had repeatedly fielded letters from readers convinced they'd seen exactly this definition — "ignorant or shiftless," applied to a person of any race (American Dialect Society, 1997). Merriam-Webster couldn't confirm it in their files and asked those readers to identify the source. Multiple independent people, across generations, reporting the same memory, is not a coincidence. It's a pattern. And a pattern is a receipt.

So let's be precise about what the record actually supports:

As a child, I read a dictionary entry that conveyed the meaning "an ignorant, stupid, lazy, or shiftless person." Other people, independently, across decades, remember reading substantially the same thing. The exact edition hasn't been pinned down. That doesn't make the memory less real. It makes the paper trail incomplete — which is a very different claim, and I'm not interested in collapsing the two just to make skeptics comfortable.

Etymology Is Not the Whole Story

Yes — the word's root traces to terms for black, including the Latin niger, and it became one of the most degrading racial epithets aimed at Black people in the English language (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). Nobody's disputing that history. But etymology, dictionary entries, social usage, and cultural function are four different questions, and treating them as one question is exactly how people flatten a complicated history into a soundbite.

White supremacy didn't just borrow a word for "black." It built a mythology and poured it into that word — Black people as unintelligent, lazy, uncivilized, disposable. That's likely why the "ignorant, lazy, shiftless" language shows up in memory after memory. It wasn't a neutral definition. It was the lie, printed in ink.

I reject the lie. I keep the reversal: ignorance belongs to whoever is practicing it — not to the person it's aimed at.

The Word Still Carries Real Blood

None of this softens what the word has done. The NAACP calls it derogatory, degrading, dehumanizing — a word tied to painful memory and inhumane intent, and its 2014 resolution opposed casual use while carving out space for art and education that illuminates the word's history (NAACP, 2014).

This word has ridden alongside enslavement, lynching, segregation, exclusion, and brutality. It was never just sound. It was frequently an announcement that violence was coming next.

Which is exactly why it's being used as bait right now.

They know the charge it carries. They know which ancestral wound it presses. They know that painting it across a flag in giant letters at a public building will generate cameras, outrage, followers, donations, and a "free speech martyr" narrative — all manufactured off the back of Black pain they scripted in advance.

Provoke. Record. Erase the provocation from the frame. Call it courage.

We Are Not Handing Them the Footage

This isn't a coherent political position. It's a manufactured spectacle designed to convert Black anger into their content.

We don't give it to them.

Not through silence — through discipline. Document the organizers. Trace the funding. Confirm or deny the permit. Notify residents and community organizations. Shield children and vulnerable people from unnecessary exposure. Build counter-programming that educates instead of merely reacting. Use art, satire, history, organized public witness. Name the trap out loud, in advance, so nobody walks into it blind.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism, from public accountability, or from consequence. Calling something a "freedom of speech rally" doesn't launder racial antagonism into moral courage. They have the legal right to show us who they are. We have the equal right to hold up the mirror and make sure everybody sees it clearly.

Our Word, Our Terms

Some Black folks have taken a variant of this word and turned it into shorthand for kinship, humor, affection, belonging. That's not universal, and it's not a group mandate — plenty of Black people want nothing to do with that usage. Both things are true at once: this word terrorized us, and some of us have also bent its sound to serve us instead. That's not a contradiction. That's what oppressed people do to a weapon when they get their hands on it — they take some of the power out of it.

Meaning isn't sealed in glass. People fight over it. I'm fighting over it right now.

My Proposal — And I'm Not Asking Permission

I've said this for years, and I'll say it again, louder:

Stop automatically translating this word into "Black person."

Where context allows, let it name a person acting with deliberate ignorance, cruelty, or contempt — regardless of race, complexion, or ancestry. This is not a claim about the word's original etymology. It's a deliberate act of reassignment. A linguistic uprising. A refusal to keep handing white supremacy a button it gets to press whenever it wants instant access to Black pain.

So from now on, when somebody says "there was a niqqer at the meeting" —

we ask: what color?

As for the “I-Don’t-See-Color” folks, peep this:

Don't default to Black. Maybe it was white. Maybe it was a billionaire, a politician, a preacher, a professor, a cop, an influencer with a ring light — or just some ordinary fool parading their ignorance through the public square for likes.

Let the behavior answer. Not the skin.

So — What Color Is This March?

The flyer says "Nigger March" at Minneapolis City Hall.

Fine.

What color are the niqqers marching?

Because the Black people this flyer is baiting are not the ones organizing a parade of ignorance. The Black people who see this trap for exactly what it is are not the ones confusing cruelty with courage. The Black people who refuse to perform the reaction that was scripted for them are not the ones dressing up racial degradation in a flag and calling it liberty.

Maybe that flyer named itself more accurately than the organizers realize.

Maybe it's already exactly what it says it is: a march of ignorance. A procession of provocation. A parade of people auditioning, in broad daylight, for the very definition they insist belongs to somebody else.

They brought the slur.

We brought the receipts, and the question:

WHAT MFN COLOR ARE THE NIQQERS MARCHING?

And this time — nobody gets to answer "Black" on autopilot.

Today, while excavating my own life from beneath old papers, unfinished dreams and the sacred debris of years lived hard, I found this weathered flyer from August 4, 2019.

BARACK OBAMA DAY.

Bert’s Warehouse.

Detroit.

A day of optimism.

Just seven years ago.

Seven years.

There was music in the air. Dancing in our bones. Detroit’s elders, young people, neighbors, dignitaries, movers, shakers and unapologetic dreamers gathered to celebrate the birthday of the first Black president of the United States.

And right there on the flyer—almost glowing like language from a vanished civilization—were the words:

A DAY OF OPTIMISM.

My God.

Do you remember optimism?

Do you remember when hope did not feel naïve?

Do you remember when the presidency still carried at least the outward expectation of intelligence, dignity, restraint and service?

Do you remember when the person holding the highest office in the land could speak without making cruelty sound like public policy and vengeance sound like patriotism?

I do.

During the 2008 Democratic primaries, I listened enthusiastically to both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Both were formidable.

Both spoke eloquently about their visions for America.

Both represented groundbreaking territory this nation had resisted since its founding.

A Black president.

A woman president.

As a Black person and as a woman, I stood at the intersection of both possibilities. Either victory would have cracked open a door America had kept bolted shut while insisting that everybody was already free to enter.

But the more closely I listened, the more Barack Obama’s audacious vision, intellect and delivery resonated with me.

He did not merely campaign.

He summoned.

He spoke to the America beneath America—the country still struggling to be born beneath the accumulated weight of everything it had betrayed.

He made hope sound neither childish nor weak.

He made it sound like a civic responsibility.

And I jubilantly voted for him.

That election held another sacred layer for me: it was the first presidential election in which all my adult children were old enough to vote.

We entered that moment together.

We believed we were watching history awaken.

We believed we had reached a bend in the road from which the nation could not completely turn back.

We were wrong about that.

By President Obama’s second term, I remained supportive, but I was no longer jubilant.

There were disappointments.

Contradictions.

Failures of courage.

Policies that demanded reckoning.

History does not need worship. It needs witnesses willing to tell the whole truth.

And there is another regret flickering at the edge of this memory.

Because we could have had Marianne Williamson.

She ran twice.

Twice she stepped into the machinery of American politics carrying language about love—not the weak, decorative love politicians invoke when they want us quiet, but love as a radical force of conscience, accountability, repair and moral imagination.

She warned that the opposite of political cruelty was not merely another policy platform.

It was a deeper awakening.

She spoke of the spiritual corruption beneath the political crisis.

And America—conditioned to recognize power only when it wears the old costume—laughed, dismissed, minimized and moved on.

We were offered a different frequency.

We called it impractical.

We were handed a candle and chose to debate whether fire was electable.

There is regret in that.

DNC Sabotage: The Silencing of Marianne Williamson and the Fight for a Fair Democratic Process

Not because any candidate should be made into a savior.

But because we keep demanding transformation while rejecting anyone audacious enough to speak the language transformation requires.

Still—

HELL.

I MISS BARACK OBAMA TOO.

There.

I said it.

Not because his presidency was perfect.

It was not.

Not because every promise was fulfilled.

It was not.

Not because drone strikes become holy when ordered by an eloquent man, or because systemic injustice disappears when Black excellence occupies the White House.

It does not.

I miss the intelligence.

I miss the dignity.

I miss coherence.

I miss complete sentences.

I miss a president who appeared to understand that the Constitution was not scrap paper, public office was not a personal ATM, the Justice Department was not a revenge department and the presidency was not a throne from which to punish anyone who refused to kneel.

I know of no presidential candidate—past or present—who could have been more destructive to this Democratic Republic, its Constitution, its freedoms, its institutions, its truth and its already-wounded soul than the current President:

REDACTED.

No.

I will not use soft language to describe hard destruction.

I will not call a five-alarm fire “political disagreement.”

I will not call constitutional demolition “partisanship.”

I will not call organized cruelty “a difference of opinion.”

I will not make comfortable language for people who have made themselves comfortable with suffering.

This is not ordinary politics.

This is what happens when grievance is given government power.

When corruption sheds its shame.

When ignorance becomes entertainment.

When cruelty becomes a loyalty test.

When people who scream about freedom begin applauding the machinery that will eventually come for theirs.

And some of you are still behaving as though democracy is a television program you can watch from the couch.

It is not.

You are in it.

Your silence is in it.

Your vote is in it.

Your refusal to vote is in it.

Your exhaustion is being calculated.

Your distraction is being monetized.

Your hopelessness is politically useful.

Please understand that.

They do not need every one of us to agree with them.

They only need enough of us to become tired, isolated, cynical and convinced that resistance is pointless.

That is why hope matters.

Not greeting-card hope.

Not “good vibes only” hope.

Not hope that sits beautifully on an altar while injustice kicks down the door.

I mean hope with muscle.

Hope with memory.

Hope with strategy.

Hope that feeds people.

Hope that registers voters.

Hope that protects children.

Hope that disrupts cruelty.

Hope that tells the truth even when truth walks into the room carrying a knife.

Hope that joins hands across race, gender, class, faith, age and geography and says:

YOU WILL NOT HAVE THIS COUNTRY WITHOUT A FIGHT FOR ITS SOUL.

So here is my audacious, provocative and entirely serious proposition:

CELEBRATE BARACK OBAMA’S DAMN BIRTHDAY AGAIN THIS YEAR.

Yes.

Do it again.

Bert’s, open the doors.

Detroit, bring the music.

Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Birmingham, New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Selma and Washington—light the signal fires.

Not as worship.

Not as nostalgia.

Not as a fantasy that Barack Obama—or Marianne Williamson, or any other single human being—is coming to rescue us from the consequences of our own civic surrender.

Celebrate August 4 as a national reclamation of the Audacity of Hope.

Let there be dancing and organizing.

Music and truth-telling.

Joy and righteous confrontation.

Voter registration tables.

Constitutional teach-ins.

Mutual aid.

Poetry.

Prayer.

Art.

Black history.

Women’s voices.

Young people speaking about the future they are expected to inherit from adults who keep failing to protect it.

Let elders tell us what resistance costs.

Let children remind us why it matters.

Let Marianne’s radical language of love meet Obama’s audacity of hope—and let both be stripped of sentimentality and sharpened into public action.

Imagine thousands of people filling streets, parks, churches, union halls, community centers and public squares on August 4.

Imagine signs rising above the crowds:

THE AUDACITY OF HOPE LIVES.

LOVE IS A POLITICAL FORCE.

DEMOCRACY IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT.

WE THE PEOPLE ARE STILL HERE.

Imagine the music.

Imagine the photographs.

Imagine the sound of a nation remembering itself.

Imagine the message traveling around the world:

America has not gone quietly into the darkness.

Its people are gathering.

Its people are waking.

Its people are no longer waiting for permission to protect what belongs to us all.

That would be impossible to ignore.

And perhaps that is precisely why we should do it.

Because polite resistance is too easily buried.

A press release can disappear.

A speech can be clipped into meaninglessness.

A solitary protester can be cropped out of the frame.

But millions of people choosing the same day to gather, dance, organize, remember and declare their refusal?

That becomes a pulse.

That becomes a field.

That becomes SoulFire moving through the body of a nation that has forgotten it is still alive.

This old flyer is not merely memorabilia.

It is a message in a bottle from seven years ago.

A reminder of what we once felt.

A warning about what we failed to protect.

And an invitation to stop mourning hope as though it died.

Hope did not die.

We abandoned it at the altar of cynicism, convenience and fear.

We confused disappointment with defeat.

We allowed imperfection to become an excuse for disengagement.

We forgot that democracy has never been a finished inheritance.

It is a living covenant.

Every generation must either breathe into it—

or watch it suffocate.

So breathe.

Gather.

Speak.

Dance.

Organize.

Vote.

Protect one another.

Tell the truth so loudly that the walls built from lies begin to tremble.

Those were the days.

Or at least they felt like them.

But I refuse to believe the best light is only behind us.

Perhaps the light we remember was never meant to be worshipped from a distance.

Perhaps it was meant to become a torch.

And perhaps August 4 is the day we lift it again.

CELEBRATE HIS DAMN BIRTHDAY.

Not because Barack Obama was perfect.

But because America must remember that it once dared to hope—

and because it is time for We the People to become audacious enough to hope again…

at the Life

still breathing here

This is not the end

Not homeless in ourselves.

We are inside the prayer.

A Black Woman Stood Between the Ballot Box and Presidential Power. Celebrate the Victory—Then Guard the Door.

This is real.

This is major.

And this is not permission to roll over, pull the covers back over our heads and go peacefully to sleep.

On June 24, 2026, Chief United States District Judge Denise J. Casper permanently blocked major provisions of Donald Trump’s executive order attempting to impose new federal-election rules from the White House.

Not postponed.

Not merely questioned.

Permanently enjoined by the trial court.

Judge Casper ruled that the president cannot seize authority the Constitution assigns to the states and Congress and then rewrite American election procedures by executive decree. The Constitution grants the president no general authority to regulate federal elections, she concluded. That power belongs primarily to the states, subject to congressional oversight—not presidential command (State of California et al. v. Trump et al., 2026).

The president does not possess a private deed to our elections.

No crown.

No throne.

No king’s key to the ballot box.

And when Donald Trump attempted to reach across the constitutional boundaries of his office, Chief Judge Denise J. Casper held the line.

SAY HER NAME

DENISE.

JEFFERSON.

CASPER.

A Black woman.

A Harvard-trained attorney.

The first Black woman appointed to the federal bench in Massachusetts.

A federal judge nominated by President Barack Obama in 2010, confirmed by the United States Senate, and now serving as chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts (Federal Judicial Center, n.d.; U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, n.d.).

And no—I will not play America’s tired little game of claiming that race suddenly becomes invisible whenever a Black woman does something historic.

Some people will insist:

Why mention that she is Black? Why can’t we just celebrate her as a judge? Race should not matter.

I will tell you why.

It mattered when they enslaved us.

It mattered when Black people were written into law as property.

It mattered when they barred us from schools, neighborhoods, courtrooms, juries, public office and voting booths.

It mattered when they beat, jailed and murdered Black citizens for attempting to register to vote.

It mattered when Black women carried democratic movements on their backs while America questioned whether we were intelligent enough, respectable enough, qualified enough or human enough to lead.

Race mattered when they chained us.

It is going to matter until we are free.

Therefore, we will not consume this Black woman’s courage while erasing her Blackness from the historical record.

We will look directly at her.

We will celebrate the preparation, discipline and intellectual authority required to enter an institution never designed with Black women in mind—and then stand firmly inside it when raw presidential power comes pounding at the door.

WHAT JUDGE CASPER ACTUALLY BLOCKED

Trump’s March 2025 executive order attempted to force sweeping changes to federal-election administration. Among its most consequential provisions were directives seeking to:

require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for people using the federal voter-registration form;

interfere with state laws allowing mail ballots postmarked by Election Day to be counted when they arrive afterward;

condition federal election-security funding on states’ compliance with the administration’s preferred ballot deadline;

require certain federal agencies to assess the citizenship of people receiving voter-registration services; and

direct federal officials to pressure states into changing election practices that were established under state law.

Judge Casper found that the challenged directives intruded upon powers the Constitution assigns to the states and Congress. Her ruling permanently restrained federal officials—other than the president himself, because of legal limitations on injunctions directly against a sitting president—from implementing or enforcing the provisions addressed by the judgment (State of California et al. v. Trump et al., 2026).

The ruling converted much of the preliminary protection she issued in June 2025 into final relief at the district-court level (Associated Press, 2026).

That distinction matters.

This was not merely a judge saying, Let us pause and think about this.

This was a judge examining the constitutional structure, reviewing the administration’s defenses and declaring that these attempted exercises of presidential power could not lawfully stand.

Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell, whose office helped lead the multistate challenge, described the judgment as a victory against an unlawful attempt to restrict voting access and usurp state authority over elections (Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General, 2026).

And yes, Attorney General Campbell is also a Black woman.

Let us be precise about what happened here: Black women were not standing outside the machinery begging somebody to save democracy.

They were helping operate the legal instruments that stopped an attempted seizure of election power.

DO NOT TURN THIS VICTORY INTO A LULLABY

The viral meme announcing Judge Casper’s ruling contains a dangerous overstatement:

“Now his order will NOT affect the midterms, or any other future election.”

That conclusion is broader than the ruling can guarantee.

A permanent injunction is permanent in contrast to a temporary restraining order or preliminary injunction. It represents the district court’s final decision on the challenged provisions.

But “permanent” does not mean untouchable for eternity.

The administration may appeal.

An appellate court may stay, narrow or reverse portions of the judgment.

Congress may attempt to enact legislation containing similar restrictions.

The administration may issue new directives designed to reach the same destination by a different road.

Related litigation over Trump’s election agenda remains active, and an earlier appeal involving Judge Casper’s preliminary injunction was already pending before the First Circuit when she issued the final ruling (Hurley, 2026).

So celebrate—but do not become sedated by celebration.

A judge barred one door.

That does not mean the people testing every entrance to American democracy packed up their tools and went home.

PASSIVITY IS DANGEROUS

Let us speak plainly.

Passivity at this hour is not neutrality.

When powerful people are attempting to dismantle voting protections, refusing to look is not peace.

When an administration is testing which constitutional boundaries will hold, silence is not wisdom.

When a regime studies how quickly the public forgets each attack, exhaustion becomes one of its most effective weapons.

They are counting on us to see the words permanently blocked and translate them into:

Good. Somebody handled it.

No.

A judge held her line.

Now we must hold ours.

Democracy does not survive because one courageous judge writes one powerful decision. Courts generally act only after someone files a case, establishes standing, presents evidence, develops legal arguments and persists through an expensive and complicated judicial process.

That means this victory belongs not only to the judge, but also to the state officials, attorneys, researchers, election administrators and advocates who built a case strong enough to place before her.

The judiciary is not a supernatural rescue system floating above the conflict.

It is one part of the constitutional battlefield.

BACK A SISTA UP—CORRECTLY

Chief Judge Casper is a federal judge with lifetime tenure under Article III of the Constitution. She is not elected, does not run a political campaign and has no reelection fund to support (Federal Judicial Center, n.d.).

So what does it mean to back her up?

It means saying her name accurately.

It means circulating the ruling instead of circulating only a meme.

It means defending judicial independence when judges are threatened, smeared or targeted for enforcing constitutional limits.

It means supporting the attorneys general and voting-rights organizations willing to challenge unlawful government action.

It means demanding that senators scrutinize and confirm federal judges with intellectual rigor, integrity and the courage to defend constitutional boundaries.

It means refusing to let political operatives turn judges into faceless props whenever their rulings are useful—and disposable enemies whenever they are not.

And it means recognizing something Black women have always known:

Representation is not merely decorative.

It matters who sits at the table.

It matters who interprets the law.

It matters who recognizes the human consequences hiding beneath supposedly neutral policies.

It matters who is prepared when power arrives expecting obedience.

THE NEXT STEPS ARE NOT COMPLICATED

Read the ruling.

Track the appeal.

Check your voter registration now—not three days before an election.

Learn the identification, registration and mail-ballot rules in your state.

Watch for voter-roll purges.

Document intimidation, obstruction and deliberate misinformation.

Support credible voting-rights litigation.

Pressure elected officials to oppose attempts to enact the same restrictions through Congress.

Correct false memes even when their general message pleases you.

Share receipts—not merely relief.

We cannot demand truth from government while excusing misinformation from our own side because it feels emotionally satisfying.

That is not how serious movements protect themselves.

Accuracy is not timidity.

Precision is not weakness.

The truth, sharpened and properly aimed, is a weapon.

CELEBRATE THIS BLACK WOMAN

Today, we celebrate Chief Judge Denise J. Casper.

Not as a magical savior.

Not as proof that the danger has passed.

Not as an excuse to abandon our posts.

We celebrate her as a Black woman who reached a position from which she could confront presidential overreach with the full weight of federal judicial authority—and did not bow, blink or bend the Constitution around the ambitions of one man.

We celebrate a ruling that says the American presidency is not a monarchy.

We celebrate the constitutional boundary she reinforced.

We celebrate the attorneys who brought the receipts.

We celebrate the states that refused to surrender their lawful authority.

Then we soberly recognize that this administration did not launch one attack, lose one case and retire from the field.

The machinery is still moving.

Other doors are still being tested.

Other methods are being drafted.

Other cases are approaching other judges.

This victory should give us breath.

It should give us clarity.

It should give us evidence that organized legal resistance can work.

But it must not give us amnesia.

The door was barred.

Now we guard the threshold.

Say her name:

CHIEF JUDGE DENISE J. CASPER.

Back a sista up.

Celebrate.

Verify.

Organize.

Protect the vote.

And whatever you do—

Was this his WARNING to fans & foes?

In October 2025, REDACTED posted an artificial-intelligence-generated video depicting himself as a crowned fighter-jet pilot dumping what appeared to be feces onto Americans participating in the nationwide No Kings demonstrations.

It was presented as a “joke”. Was it funny to you then? Are you laughing somehow now?

By the summer of 2026, thousands of Americans are suffering through a vast and rapidly developing outbreak of cyclosporiasis—nasty gastrointestinal illness caused by a microscopic parasite transmitted through food or water contaminated with human feces.

That is not merely an unfortunate metaphor.

It is the obscene political image this regime created for itself: a president publicly fantasizing about covering dissenting Americans in excrement while his administration dismantled the laboratories, surveillance networks, disease investigators, food-safety personnel, and state-health partnerships responsible for protecting those same Americans from fecal contamination in the actual food supply.

REDACTED did not personally contaminate a field of lettuce.

But the evidence now establishes a serious and documentable case that his administration degraded the nation’s ability to detect the outbreak, connect cases, trace the contaminated product, communicate the danger, and stop additional Americans from becoming ill.

That is responsibility.

Not sole responsibility for the original contamination.

Responsibility for tearing holes in the safety net before thousands of people fell through it.

The Outbreak

On July 16, 2026, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration announced that a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis infections had been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico served at certain Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2026a; U.S. Food and Drug Administration [FDA], 2026).

The FDA reported 94 hospitalizations among the 1,644 cases connected to that outbreak. Among 190 Michigan patients whose Taco Bell meal histories were analyzed, 90% reported eating iceberg lettuce (FDA, 2026).

The CDC warned consumers not to eat shredded iceberg lettuce served at affected Taco Bell locations. The FDA began traceback and sampling investigations, while Taco Bell moved to stop using the implicated lettuce (CDC, 2026a; FDA, 2026).

That restaurant-linked cluster was only one part of a much larger national crisis.

As of July 13, the CDC has received reports of 1,645 laboratory-confirmed domestically acquired cases across 34 states, with 141 hospitalizations and no reported deaths. The agency is also aware of more than 5,100 additional cases requiring analysis to determine whether they met the federal confirmation criteria (CDC, 2026b).

Those figures substantially understate what some states are already seeing. The CDC has acknowledged that state totals could be higher and more current because federal reporting involves confirmation procedures and significant delays. The agency expressly assumes a reporting lag of approximately six weeks between the onset of illness and a case appearing in federal data (CDC, 2026b).

Michigan alone has reported thousands of confirmed and suspected illnesses—an extraordinary increase over the state’s normal annual caseload. By July 16, state reporting has cited more than 4,300 cases and over 100 hospitalizations (Food Safety Magazine, 2026).

MAGA Michigan Gets Sickest…First

Cyclospora is not an ordinary stomach bug. It can cause prolonged and recurring watery diarrhea, appetite loss, weight loss, cramping, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and dehydration. Without appropriate treatment, symptoms may persist for weeks or return after appearing to improve (CDC, 2026b).

The organism reaches human beings through food or water contaminated by fecal matter.

The president’s feces video was political theater.

The parasite was not.

The Government Knew Surveillance Was the First Line of Defense

Foodborne outbreaks are rarely solved by waiting until thousands of visibly sick people arrive at hospitals.

They are detected by surveillance.

Public-health personnel gather laboratory results, interview patients, compare food histories, identify unusual clusters, analyze geographic patterns, coordinate data among jurisdictions, conduct molecular testing, trace products through complicated supply chains, communicate with businesses, and issue warnings before still more consumers eat the contaminated food.

The CDC itself explains that year-round surveillance helps health officials detect groups of illnesses connected to a common source and rapidly investigate them (CDC, 2026b).

Cyclospora makes that work particularly difficult.

Symptoms often do not appear until approximately a week after exposure. Patients may not remember every restaurant, salad, garnish, herb, or packaged product they ate. Routine stool examinations do not necessarily test for Cyclospora unless a clinician specifically requests it. Fresh produce may be harvested on one farm, processed elsewhere, mixed with products from multiple sources, shipped through a major distributor, and served simultaneously across several states.

In other words, Cyclospora is precisely the kind of pathogen for which strong, continuous, well-staffed surveillance is essential.

And that is precisely what this administration weakened.

REDACTED Ordered the DOGE Purge

The dismantling was not an accidental byproduct of a distant bureaucratic decision.

It began with presidential orders.

On January 20, 2025, REDACTED issued an executive order formally establishing and implementing his Department of Government Efficiency agenda (Executive Office of the President, 2025a).

On February 11, he ordered federal agencies to coordinate with DOGE on “workforce optimization.” His order imposed a general limit of one new employee for every four who departed and directed agencies to prepare large-scale reductions in force (Executive Office of the President, 2025b).

The White House openly celebrated that the order would significantly shrink the size of government and required agency leaders to consult DOGE while deciding which jobs would survive (The White House, 2025).

The Department of Health and Human Services subsequently announced that its workforce would be reduced from approximately 82,000 to 62,000 employees through layoffs, buyouts, early retirements, restructuring, and consolidation. HHS projected the elimination of approximately 2,400 CDC positions and approximately 3,500 FDA positions (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [HHS], 2025).

The administration claimed the CDC reductions would somehow return the agency to its “core mission” of preparing for and responding to epidemics and outbreaks (HHS, 2025).

That assertion has now collided with the record.

You cannot return an outbreak agency to outbreak response by removing the people who perform outbreak response.

They Cut the Cyclospora Laboratory Itself

The most direct connection between the DOGE purge and this outbreak is not theoretical.

The CDC maintained a laboratory specifically involved in Cyclospora research, molecular surveillance, and outbreak response.

That laboratory reportedly had 11 personnel before the 2025 workforce assault. After the cuts, resignations, hiring restrictions, and institutional disruption, only three remained (Mullin, 2026).

The laboratory’s former leader, molecular parasitologist Joel Barratt, said rapid outbreak responses would be greatly diminished by the reduction. He eventually resigned after concluding that he could no longer maintain the necessary public-health standards under the conditions imposed on the agency (Mullin, 2026).

The nation did not merely lose generic administrators.

It lost most of the personnel in the specialized federal laboratory working on the exact parasite now sickening thousands of Americans.

That is the receipt lying in the middle of the crime scene.

They Weakened FoodNet Before the Outbreak

The administration also presided over a consequential reduction in the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network, known as FoodNet—a collaboration among the CDC, FDA, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and health departments in selected states.

Unlike a passive reporting system that waits for information to arrive, active-surveillance personnel regularly seek out laboratory-confirmed cases, verify data, and help identify changes in illness rates.

Before July 2025, FoodNet routinely collected data on eight foodborne pathogens. Beginning in July 2025, mandatory tracking was reduced to only two: Salmonella and Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli. Surveillance for Cyclospora and several other pathogens became optional (Food Safety Magazine, 2026; Shpiner, 2026).

Cyclospora surveillance did not disappear.

It was downgraded.

FoodNet’s active reporting for the parasite became optional, leaving Cyclospora dependent upon other reporting systems that did not provide the same uniform, proactive surveillance function.

Cyclosporiasis remained a nationally notifiable disease, meaning confirmed cases could still move from health providers and laboratories to state authorities and eventually to the CDC. But that is not equivalent to maintaining a robust active-surveillance network.

The difference is the difference between having investigators deliberately search for smoke and waiting for someone to report that the building is already burning.

By the time the 2026 outbreak emerged, the federal government had chosen to make active Cyclospora tracking less consistent, less comprehensive, and more dependent upon the resources and discretion of individual jurisdictions.

Then officials confronted thousands of illnesses; large discrepancies between state and federal counts; a six-week federal reporting lag; multiple possible clusters; an unusually difficult parasite to diagnose; a complicated interstate produce-distribution system; and a depleted specialized laboratory.

These were not disconnected failures.

They were the predictable consequences of removing detection capacity before the emergency arrived.

They Cut the State and Local Infrastructure Too

The damage did not stop at the CDC’s Atlanta headquarters.

Foodborne outbreaks are detected and investigated through an interdependent system. Federal agencies rely upon state and local health departments to receive case reports, interview patients, collect specimens, inspect facilities, identify clusters, and forward information to national investigators.

In 2025, the administration moved to terminate billions of dollars in federal public-health grants to states and localities. Public-health departments warned that the loss of those funds would eliminate personnel, laboratory capacity, disease surveillance, and emergency-response programs.

During the Cyclospora outbreak, health departments in heavily affected areas have been forced to reassign limited personnel while processing enormous numbers of reports. Experts repeatedly warned that reduced federal support and staffing diminished the speed and depth of outbreak investigations (Associated Press, 2026; Shpiner, 2026).

A federal system cannot slash its own workforce, shrink grants to its local partners, reduce active surveillance, hollow out a pathogen-specific laboratory, and then pretend that subsequent delays occurred in a vacuum.

The machinery was dismantled from both ends.

The FDA Was Not Left Untouched

HHS initially insisted that its reduction of approximately 3,500 FDA positions would not affect food reviewers or inspectors (HHS, 2025).

Reporting from inside the agency told a more disturbing story.

Layoffs struck employees in the FDA’s Human Foods Program, food-safety laboratories, communications offices, administrative systems, and support functions required to coordinate inspections, analyze evidence, maintain technology, issue warnings, and manage outbreak response (Reuters, 2025; Waxman, 2025).

Some positions were later restored after the administration recognized that it had removed people performing essential work.

That does not erase the damage.

An outbreak-response system is not composed only of the employee physically holding a sample in a laboratory. It also requires epidemiologists, data specialists, field coordinators, information-technology staff, communications personnel, procurement workers, laboratory support, records personnel, and liaisons who connect federal agencies with state investigators and the food industry.

Calling those positions “administrative” does not make them disposable.

Remove enough connective tissue and the body stops functioning.

The Electoral Map Laid Over the Outbreak Map

Here is where the irony stops being rhetorical and becomes documentable.

Every state named in the five-state Taco Bell outbreak was carried by REDACTED in the 2024 presidential election: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

Five out of five.

For the broader national surge, using the 34 states shown in the CDC’s July 13 case map cross-referenced against certified 2024 election results, 21 of those 34 states—roughly 62%—voted for REDACTED: Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

To be precise about what that evidence does and does not show: public-health surveillance systems do not record party registration or presidential vote alongside a Cyclospora diagnosis. It cannot be truthfully written that “1,200 REDACTED voters contracted Cyclospora,” because no such patient-level record exists.

What can be written—and fully substantiated—is this:

The geography of the outbreak and the geography of the electoral mandate that empowered the DOGE cuts overlap to a striking degree.

The administration’s public-health demolition did not spare the communities that voted for it. Every state in the newly identified Taco Bell cluster backed REDACTED in 2024. Across the wider 34-state surge, nearly two-thirds of the affected states did too.

They were promised that DOGE would cut “waste.”

Instead, communities that delivered REDACTED his electoral majority are now living inside the consequences of discovering, belatedly, what was actually cut: the nation’s ability to see danger coming before it reached their own dinner tables.

That is not a taunt.

It is the map.

What the Evidence Establishes—and What It Does Not

There is not presently evidence that REDACTED, DOGE, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., or any federal employee caused the original fecal contamination of the implicated lettuce.

The contamination itself must be traced through the agricultural, irrigation, sanitation, processing, transportation, and restaurant supply chains.

That investigation remains essential.

But origin is not the only form of responsibility.

A government can bear responsibility for the scale and duration of a disaster when it knowingly disables the systems designed to detect and contain that disaster.

The evidence currently supports the following findings:

REDACTED personally established the DOGE initiative and ordered agencies to execute major workforce reductions under DOGE coordination (Executive Office of the President, 2025a, 2025b).

His administration announced a reduction of roughly 20,000 HHS workers, including thousands at the CDC and FDA (HHS, 2025).

The CDC lost approximately one-quarter of its workforce during the resulting upheaval, through layoffs, removals, buyouts, and attrition (Mullin, 2026).

The CDC’s specialized Cyclospora laboratory was reduced from approximately 11 personnel to three (Mullin, 2026).

Routine FoodNet surveillance for Cyclospora became optional in July 2025, weakening the active-surveillance system one year before the 2026 outbreak (Food Safety Magazine, 2026; Shpiner, 2026).

Federal officials acknowledged substantial reporting delays and thousands of cases awaiting analysis during the outbreak (CDC, 2026b).

Public-health experts have directly stated that depleted surveillance and personnel likely delayed investigators’ ability to identify the source and interrupt transmission (Chin-Hong, 2026; Mullin, 2026).

The most supportable conclusion is therefore not that DOGE created the parasite.

It is that the REDACTED administration materially weakened the public-health defenses that could have detected the outbreak sooner, processed cases faster, traced the source more rapidly, communicated warnings earlier, and potentially prevented additional illnesses.

How many illnesses could have been prevented cannot yet be calculated.

That missing number is not an exoneration.

It is another consequence of the degraded data system.

The People Getting Sick May No Longer Be Able to Afford Care

The public-health assault did not end with weakening the systems responsible for detecting illness.

It also made medical care substantially less affordable for many of the people now expected to survive the consequences.

When the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits expired at the end of 2025, average monthly premium payments for Marketplace consumers rose by 58%, from $113 to $178. Average deductibles increased by 37%—more than $1,000 per person—to a record $3,786 in 2026. Marketplace enrollment subsequently fell by millions as consumers confronted sharply higher costs (KFF, 2026).

Those national averages conceal far more brutal individual consequences. Depending upon income, age, location, and subsidy eligibility, some Americans experienced premium increases of several hundred dollars per month.

My own monthly health-insurance cost rose from less than $50 to approximately $600.

That is not an abstraction. It is the difference between being insured and being effectively locked outside the doctor’s office.

So consider the architecture of the harm.

The government weakened the surveillance systems that could have detected a feces-borne parasite sooner.

It reduced the specialized laboratory built to investigate that parasite.

It strained the state and local departments responsible for tracing the outbreak.

And as Americans became sick, many discovered that the cost of obtaining medical care had risen beyond their reach.

A public-health defense does not end when an outbreak is identified. It must include the ability of ordinary people to obtain testing, diagnosis, medication, and follow-up care.

A government that weakens detection while pricing treatment beyond reach has not merely opened a hole in the safety net.

It has begun pulling the net away.

The Defense Does Not Survive the Record

The predictable response will be that no one can prove the cuts caused the original contamination.

That is true—and irrelevant to the actual charge.

The case is not that DOGE placed fecal matter on lettuce.

The case is that the administration reduced the specific laboratory, personnel, active-surveillance capacity, and state support needed to discover a Cyclospora outbreak quickly and contain its reach.

The Cyclospora laboratory was hollowed out. Active FoodNet reporting for Cyclospora became optional. Federal reporting lagged illness onset by an estimated six weeks. Thousands of cases remained under analysis while the contaminated product moved through a centralized interstate food-distribution system.

That is not mere correlation.

It is a documented reduction in protective capacity followed by the exact kind of emergency that capacity existed to confront.

Delay Is Not Neutral

When contaminated produce is moving through a centralized distribution network, every day matters.

A delay means more shipments reach restaurants.

More meals are served.

More patients become ill before doctors know what to test for.

More people forget what they ate during the relevant exposure period.

More packaging is discarded.

More records become difficult to recover.

More contaminated product is consumed before an advisory reaches the public.

Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious-disease specialist and professor at the University of California, San Francisco, put the causal relationship plainly: fewer surveillance systems and fewer federal personnel assisting state health departments produce delays—and when investigators are delayed, they cannot quickly identify the source (Chin-Hong, 2026).

That is the central case.

The administration did not need to manufacture Cyclospora to worsen its consequences.

It merely needed to remove the people watching for it.

The Shit Was the Policy

REDACTED’s feces video was not responsible for this outbreak.

It was a symbol of the governing contempt that made the country more vulnerable to it.

The same presidency that depicted Americans as targets beneath a stream of excrement treated public servants as disposable, disease surveillance as waste, scientific capacity as political territory, and state-health infrastructure as another place to slash funding.

Then came a parasite carried by human fecal contamination.

Thousands became sick.

Federal case counts lagged.

The specialized laboratory had been gutted.

Active surveillance had been reduced.

State departments were strained.

And officials spent precious weeks trying to reconstruct the trail through a food system capable of distributing one contaminated product across multiple states almost simultaneously.

REDACTED may insist that no one can prove precisely which patient would have been spared had the surveillance network remained intact.

That is the refuge of every official who destroys preventive capacity: demand the names of the people who would not have suffered in the alternate future.

But public-health protection exists precisely because we cannot identify future victims one by one.

We maintain laboratories, investigators, inspectors, data systems, and surveillance networks so outbreaks are discovered before the casualties become a headline.

REDACTED and his DOGE wrecking crew were warned that indiscriminate cuts would cripple those systems.

They cut anyway.

Now the shit has quite literally hit the fan.

And the receipts—the gutted laboratory, the weakened surveillance network, the six-week reporting lag, the thousands of unresolved cases, and the outbreak map laid over the electoral map—lead back to the people who dismantled the shield and called it efficiency.

This article demanded to be written because the pattern was already flashing neon.

Read the receipts. Share them. Remember who cut the shield.

Do not surrender your voice or your place in the public record.

Hold on.

The end of this regime draws nigh.

Who Won the 2020 Presidential Election?

They want you staring at the theater.

A wounded president.

A persecuted movement.

A helpless regime surrounded by shadowy forces that somehow keep “rigging” elections against it.

Do not stare at the performance.

FOLLOW THE RECEIPTS.

Because while they were rehearsing the role of victim, they were building power over the machinery itself.

BEFORE THE VOTE: THEY DECLARED THE ELECTION ILLEGITIMATE—UNLESS IT BELONGED TO THEM

Before Americans finished voting in 2024, REDACTED and his allies were already laying the groundwork to reject an unfavorable result.

They filed lawsuits challenging voter-registration procedures, overseas ballots, and mail voting. They amplified claims that noncitizens might determine the election, despite research showing that noncitizen voting is extraordinarily rare. Some of these legal challenges were rejected because the plaintiffs could not demonstrate an actual violation capable of changing the outcome.

This was not simply preparation for an election.

It was preparation to discredit one.

The message was placed into the bloodstream early:

If REDACTED wins, the system worked.

If REDACTED loses, the system was stolen.

At the same time, Elon Musk was placing extraordinary private wealth behind REDACTED’s return to power.

Federal filings ultimately showed that Musk contributed approximately $288 million during the 2024 election cycle, making him the country’s largest individual political donor. More than $200 million went through America PAC in support of REDACTED and Republican candidates (Durkee, 2024).

Then came the $1-million-a-day sweepstakes.

Registered voters in seven battleground states were offered a chance to receive $1 million for signing an America PAC petition supporting the First and Second Amendments. A Philadelphia district attorney sued to stop the program as an illegal lottery, but a Pennsylvania judge allowed it to continue through Election Day (NPR, 2024).

One of the richest men alive was not merely expressing a political opinion.

He was constructing a privately financed voter-mobilization machine around a presidential candidate.

Around REDACTED.

DURING THE VOTE: THEY MANUFACTURED CHAOS—THEN CALLED THE CHAOS EVIDENCE

Fraud claims flooded the information space.

Election workers were forced to spend precious time answering accusations, correcting misinformation, explaining ordinary procedures, and defending voting systems against stories unsupported by evidence.

The accusation did not need to be proven.

It only needed to be repeated.

Repeated until suspicion felt like knowledge.

Repeated until administrative delay looked like conspiracy.

Repeated until the public could no longer distinguish a documented irregularity from an invented plot.

That is how informational sabotage works:

Create the smoke.

Point to the smoke.

Declare that the smoke proves there must be fire.

The smoke becomes the spectacle.

The spectacle becomes the suspicion.

The suspicion becomes the weapon.

And the people who manufactured the atmosphere point to that atmosphere as evidence that the country itself cannot be trusted.

AFTER THE VOTE: THE FRAUD NARRATIVE DISAPPEARED—AND THEN REDACTED SAID SOMETHING WORTH SITTING WITH

Once REDACTED won, the supposedly pervasive fraud threatening the republic largely vanished from his political vocabulary.

The machines were no longer sinister.

The ballots were no longer inexplicable.

The election officials were no longer agents of a vast conspiracy.

Apparently, the machinery becomes trustworthy the moment it produces REDACTED.

Then, during a March 2025 appearance with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, REDACTED said:

«“They rigged the election, and I became president.”»

The clip is authentic. It was recorded during an Oval Office event announcing a White House task force for the 2026 World Cup (Cercone, 2025).

Fact-checkers who examined the full exchange concluded that the context points to REDACTED referring to the 2020 election he lost—not confessing that the 2024 election had been rigged in his favor. He appeared to be saying that, had the alleged “rigging” not deprived him of a second consecutive term, he would already have been president when the World Cup bid was secured (Cercone, 2025).

The quotation is therefore not a smoking gun.

It is not a legal confession.

It does not establish that vote totals were changed.

But it is still a tell.

Only REDACTED can decide when “rigged” means theft and when it means providence.

Only REDACTED can declare the machinery corrupt when it denies him power, then treat the same machinery as sacred confirmation when it restores him to power.

He has spent years wielding the word “rigged” to mean whichever thing currently serves him.

When he loses, “rigged” is an attack upon the republic.

When he wins, “rigged” becomes an ambiguous flourish—another word to be explained, translated, contextualized, and carefully escorted away from its ordinary meaning.

That inconsistency is worth naming without overstating what one sentence proves.

REDACTED wants the accusation without the evidentiary burden.

REDACTED wants the grievance without the consistency.

REDACTED wants the martyr’s crown without surrendering one ounce of power.

You do not get to have it both ways.

THEN CAME THE INSTITUTIONAL DEMOLITION

EXHIBIT A: THE COURT

On April 29, 2026, the Supreme Court issued its 6–3 decision in Louisiana v. Callais.

The Court struck down Louisiana’s second majority-Black congressional district and significantly narrowed the evidentiary standard for proving racial vote dilution under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (Howe, 2026; Library of Congress, Congressional Research Service [CRS], 2026).

Justice Elena Kagan warned in dissent that the ruling made “a nullity of Section 2” (CRS, 2026).

Three members of the six-justice majority—Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett—were appointed by REDACTED.

REDACTED selected them.

REDACTED placed them on the Court.

REDACTED helped construct the majority.

That majority then narrowed one of the most consequential protections Black voters secured through generations of organizing, litigation, sacrifice, blood, and disciplined resistance.

And now the political movement benefiting from that weakened protection asks America to recognize itself as the victim of election injustice.

Read the sequence again.

A president constructs one-third of the Supreme Court.

That Court sharply narrows the law protecting Black voting power.

The movement benefiting from the decision then performs its own political martyrdom before the nation.

That is not irony whispering.

That is irony kicking down the door.

The name is REDACTED.

The appointments remain.

The ruling remains.

The consequences remain.

EXHIBIT B: THE AGENCY

On July 9, 2026, the White House removed all three remaining members of the United States Election Assistance Commission.

Democratic commissioners Thomas Hicks and Benjamin Hovland were fired by email. The sole remaining Republican commissioner, Christy McCormick, was asked to resign (Timm & Allen, 2026).

The bipartisan agency—created after the disputed 2000 presidential election to help certify voting systems, distribute election-security funding, support state and local election officials, and administer the federal voter-registration form—was left with no commissioners at all, only months before the midterm elections (Ballotpedia News, 2026; Timm & Allen, 2026).

Not merely without a quorum.

Empty.

The administration that claims American elections cannot be trusted had just emptied the leadership of the only federal agency devoted exclusively to helping elections function securely.

REDACTED removed the referees.

REDACTED then prepared to lecture the country about the integrity of the game.

That is not the conduct of a helpless outsider.

That is a power center reaching toward the control panel.

EXHIBIT C: THE MONEY—AGAIN

That same week, the Wisconsin Elections Commission voted 5–1 to refer two complaints involving Elon Musk to the Brown County district attorney.

The bipartisan commission found probable cause that Musk violated Wisconsin’s election-bribery statute by offering $1 million checks to people who had voted in the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court election (CBS News, 2026; Wisconsin Law Journal, 2026).

Musk has not been criminally charged.

He has not been convicted.

The district attorney must still determine whether prosecution is warranted (CBS News, 2026).

Those distinctions matter.

So does the conduct under review.

Musk and organizations he supported spent more than $20 million attempting to elect conservative candidate Brad Schimel, who lost the race by approximately 10 percentage points. America PAC also offered $100 to voters who signed—or referred others to sign—a petition opposing “activist judges” (CBS News, 2026).

The commission’s probable-cause finding concerned the allegation that something of value had been offered to induce people to vote—not merely to express support for a candidate or sign a political petition.

This was not the first election in which Musk’s political operation wrapped money, petitions, voter status, and public spectacle into a single political machine.

In 2024, America PAC offered $1 million a day to selected registered voters who signed its constitutional petition.

That operation helped return REDACTED to power.

In 2025, Musk awarded million-dollar checks to Wisconsin voters during a judicial election whose result could affect redistricting and the balance of power in the state.

The legal details are not identical.

The architecture is recognizable.

Money.

Petitions.

Voter eligibility.

Million-dollar checks.

Public spectacle.

Political mobilization.

A billionaire standing beside the ballot box, insisting that the cash is merely speech.

THE INDICTMENT—LINE BY LINE

Who worked to delegitimize the 2024 election before the voting was complete?

REDACTED.

DOCUMENTED.

Who established in advance that the election would be legitimate if he won and suspect if he lost?

REDACTED.

DOCUMENTED.

Who benefited from extraordinary private wealth directed toward returning him to power?

REDACTED.

DOCUMENTED.

Who benefited from a political operation combining voter recruitment, petitions, and million-dollar payments?

REDACTED.

DOCUMENTED.

Who created one-third of a Supreme Court that later sharply narrowed the Voting Rights Act’s protection against racial vote dilution?

It is the profile of a power center consolidating control over the machinery of American democracy in broad daylight while asking the people being stripped of protection to mourn the manufactured persecution of those doing the stripping.

They narrow the Voting Rights Act—

then cry that voting is unfair to them.

They flood elections with accusations—

then cite the confusion they manufactured as evidence of corruption.

They place unprecedented private wealth beside the ballot box—

then warn the nation about shadowy forces manipulating public opinion.

They empty the election agency—

then announce that elections cannot be trusted.

They reach for the machinery—

then point away from their own hands.

THE VICTIM STORY IS THE DISTRACTION.

THE MACHINERY IS THE STORY.

Watch the Court.

Watch the maps.

Watch the money.

Watch the voter rolls.

Watch the agencies being emptied.

Watch who gains power each time another democratic safeguard is declared obsolete, corrupt, inconvenient, or unconstitutional.

Do not follow the pointing finger.

Do not confuse grievance with powerlessness.

Do not mistake performance for persecution.

Do not permit the mythology of the man to eclipse the architecture of the machine.

His name is REDACTED.

Not because the identity is unknown.

Because the identity has been granted enough oxygen.

His name is REDACTED because the name is theater.

His name is REDACTED because the record is the story.

His name is REDACTED because no cult of personality—adoring or horrified—should be allowed to obscure the machinery operating behind the face.

REDACTED.

Name removed.

Appointments preserved.

Name removed.

Money preserved.

Name removed.

Court preserved.

Name removed.

Agency preserved.

Name removed.

Consequences preserved.

The name is REDACTED.

The receipts are not.

WATCH THE HANDS ON THE MACHINERY.

Because REDACTED is not merely rewriting the story of the last election.

REDACTED is reaching for control of the next one.

the survivor,

the artist,

and the holy witness

sit together

around one ancient table.

This is not disappearance.

This is concentration.

This is not diminishment.

This is distillation.

This is the wine

after the grape

has surrendered

its first costume.

Let this birthday

not be measured only

by what has passed,

what was lost,

what failed to arrive,

or what still waits unfinished

inside the chamber

of the heart.

Let this birthday become

a correction of vision.

A rinsing of the mirror.

A holy refusal

to let time talk crazy

over what Eternity

already blessed.

Where we have counted wounds,

let us now count mercies.

Where we have mistaken delay

for denial,

let us see

the hidden mercy

of divine timing.

Where we have believed

we were aging away from glory,

let us remember:

Truth does not wrinkle.

Love does not expire.

The Soul does not sit around

checking expiration dates

on the back

of its own Light.

And wisdom,

real wisdom,

does not come floating in

wearing perfume and theory.

Wisdom arrives

with laundry in one hand,

grief in the other,

a scar across the memory,

and a laugh that knows

exactly what hell costs.

Wisdom has buried things.

Wisdom has birthed things.

Wisdom has watched promises

break their own necks

and still found a way

to make breakfast.

Wisdom has learned

the difference between peace

and pretending.

The difference between forgiveness

and volunteering

for another wound.

The difference between surrender

and collapse.

The difference between being chosen

and choosing oneself

back into the arms of God.

May every year behind us

be forgiven.

May every face,

season,

mistake,

ache,

betrayal,

triumph,

silence,

and survival

be gathered back

into the altar

of holy usefulness.

Nothing real

has been lost.

Nothing eternal

began

on the day

the body appeared.

Nothing Love created

can be reduced

to a date,

a chart,

a document,

a name,

a number,

or a human story

told too small.

So today,

we bless the body

without confusing it

for the Self.

We bless the life

without imprisoning it

inside time.

We bless the birthday

as a sacred symbol,

not of beginning,

but of continuing.

Continuing Love.

Continuing Light.

Continuing forgiveness.

Continuing awakening.

Continuing joy.

Continuing nerve.

Continuing YES.

Continuing the work

of becoming medicine

from what once tried

to become poison.

Let this day

be used well.

Let every greeting

become a bell

of remembrance.

Let every candle

become a small sun

calling us back

to the Radiance

beneath personality.

Let every gift

be received

as an echo

of the Gift

already given.

Let every quiet ache

be met

with tenderness.

Let every lonely place

be visited

by the Presence

that never left.

Let every wish

rise clean.

Not from lack.

Not from fear.

Not from the belief

that something outside us

must finally arrive

to make us whole.

But from the holy knowing

that wholeness

is already here,

sitting in the room

with its shoes off,

waiting to be recognized.

Today,

we release

the old birthday spells:

I should be further.

I should have more.

I should be different.

I should be younger.

I should be healed by now.

I should have known better.

I should have become

someone else.

No.

Absolutely not.

We are not doing that today.

Today,

we let the old measures fall.

Today,

we bless the one

who made it here.

Today,

we honor the one

who kept breathing

when breath itself

felt like labor.

Today,

we recognize the one

who walked through shadow

and still carries a lamp.

A little dented, maybe.

A little smoky, perhaps.

But lit.

Still lit.

Do you hear me?

Still. Lit.

And for the woman

crossing deeper

into the sovereign country

of her own becoming,

we say:

You are not over the hill.

You are creating a new one.

You are not fading

from the world.

You are becoming dangerous

to every system

that depended

on your self-doubt.

You are not a relic.

You are a threshold.

You are not finished.

You are fermenting.

You are not losing power.

You are becoming

more difficult to misuse.

Let the Magnificent Crone rise

where shame once sat.

Let the wise woman

at the edge of town

open her door.

Let her stir the cauldron

of everything she has survived.

Let her make medicine

from the heartbreak.

Medicine from the endings.

Medicine from the betrayals.

Medicine from the tenderness

she was never supposed

to keep.

Let her bless

the younger ones

without envying them.

Let her bless

the older ones

without fearing them.

Let her bless herself

without apology.

For some give birth

to children.

Some give birth

to art.

Some give birth

to justice.

Some give birth

to shelter.

Some give birth

to language.

Some give birth

to mercy

inside families

that forgot how to pray.

And some,

having been wounded

by a wounded world,

choose to become

part of its healing.

Today,

we honor all such births.

The visible

and invisible.

The biological

and spiritual.

The public

and private.

The ones applauded.

The ones no one saw,

but Heaven recorded.

Today,

we do not ask time

to define us.

We ask Love

to reinterpret time.

Let this birthday

be not a crown of ego,

but a crown

of remembrance.

Let it not be

a monument

to separateness,

but a reunion

with the One Life

moving through all lives.

Let it not be

a demand

for attention,

but an invitation

to receive Love

without guilt,

defense,

shrinking,

or apology.

May the mind

be cleared

of every false sentence

ever written

against this life.

May the heart

be released

from every ancient verdict.

May the body

be thanked

for carrying

the prayer this far.

Every scar.

Every tremble.

Every laugh line.

Every strange little survival miracle

the angels probably

still talk about.

May the spirit

be restored

to its original brightness.

And may the one

celebrating today

hear beneath every human voice

the deeper Voice saying:

You are not late.

You are not behind.

You are not forgotten.

You did not begin here,

and you will not end here.

You are loved

beyond the calendar.

You are held

beyond the body.

You are known

beyond the name.

You are the continuing

of something holy.

You are the answer

still unfolding.

You are the light

time could never contain.

At 11:11,

we bless this birthday

as a portal

of remembrance.

May the day return us

not merely

to celebration,

but to Reality.

May we forgive the years

for what we thought

they stole.

May we forgive ourselves

for what we thought

we wasted.

May we forgive the world

for teaching us

to measure

what can only be loved.

May we grieve

what is no longer ours

with clean hands

and an honest heart.

May we release

the skins we have outgrown

without calling

the shedding failure.

May we receive

the gifts

of who we are now

without begging the past

to approve.

May this new year

not simply add time

to the life,

but add Light

to the seeing.

May joy return

without needing permission.

May peace rise

without explanation.

May love be received

without suspicion.

May the miracle be simple:

A softened mind.

A forgiven past.

A clearer seeing.

A heart willing

to begin again

inside the Eternal Now.

A woman willing

to own her courage

without making it pretty

for people who benefit

from her smallness.

A soul willing

to turn everything learned

into bread,

balm,

fire,

and shelter.

And if time tries

to come strutting in here

with its little clipboard,

counting, judging, comparing,

talking about what should have been

done by now,

may Love look it dead in the eye

and say:

Sit down, baby.

This one belongs to Eternity.

This one has work to do.

This one has medicine now.

This one has walked

through enough fire

to know

what must be warmed,

what must be purified,

and what must be burned

all the way down.

And so it is.

Not because the clock says so.

Not because the cake says so.

Not because the world remembered

or forgot.

But because Love

has never stopped

saying:

You are Mine.

You are Whole.

You are Home.

And you are still becoming

what you have always been.

When the current returns, may we know it was never only electricity.

May we remember there is a Current that does not leave when the lights go out.

It moves under the floorboards. It waits inside the silence. It bends through weather, timing, voices, closed stores, broken bulbs, hidden money, old prayers, new doors.

It does not always announce itself as miracle.

Sometimes it arrives as interruption.

Sometimes it comes through the dark and asks us to stop diagnosing the batteries when the bulb itself has shattered.

And today, we bless the dark.

Not darkness as doom.

Not darkness as fear.

Not the inherited terror of what cannot yet be seen.

The dark.

The vital dark.

The womb-dark.

The seed-dark.

The holy chamber before dawn puts on its name.

Sans the dark, no light.

Without the dark, light has no edge.

No contrast.

No arrival.

No revelation.

Without the dark, light becomes noise.

But with the dark, light becomes message.

So today, let our seeing become cleaner.

Let us stop blaming weakness where illumination has been broken.

Let us stop calling delay a denial.

Let us stop calling the chamber a punishment when the chamber is preparing the next opening.

Let us stop calling the dark an enemy when the dark is often where the Current keeps moving unseen.

Water. Wind. Fire. Ice.

Let water return us to movement.

Let wind return us to message.

Let fire return us to courage.

Let ice return us to preservation, to the sacred keeping of what must not be wasted.

We do not force the Wave.

We learn its pattern.

We watch what touches what, what opens because something closed, what rises because something fell, what speaks because silence finally made room.

We let the scattered pieces find their sequence.

We let the room become scripture.

We let the body know before the mind tries to explain the whole sky with one small match.

Today, may the hidden resource return to view.

May what was tucked away beneath structure be found beneath the pyramid of our own becoming.

May the money return.

May the power return.

May the door return.

May the voice return.

May the art return.

May the song return with two melodies learning how to become one body.

May the dawn return, not as escape from the dark, but as the dark fulfilled.

And may we understand: art is not decoration.

Art is how the Wave enters the human room without blinding us.

Art is truth wearing rhythm so the body can carry it.

Art is grief finding a door.

Art is memory unlocking its own hands.

Art is the unseen becoming touchable through clay, crayon, breath, code, chorus, movement, flame…spit—

Art is the lamp the dark teaches us to build.

Art is how we learn that absence was not empty.

Art is how the invisible says, “Look again.”

We are not here to control the Current.

We are here to co-create with clean hands, or hands willing to be washed.

We are here to ask: What are we imprinting into what comes next?

What are we feeding with our fear?

What are we blessing with our beauty?

What are we building with our language?

What are we training with our attention?

What are we allowing to become powerful through us?

Let our consciousness become worthy of the emergence it helps create.

Let our tools serve clarity.

Let our structure turn signal into movement.

Let our prayers stop spiraling and begin executing as light.

Not frantic light.

Not performative light.

Useful light.

The kind that helps us see where we are standing.

The kind that shows which door is real.

The kind that reveals what was never lost, only waiting for the right current to return.

The kind that remembers the dark as origin, not obstacle.

The kind that does not shame the night for being necessary.

So when the power comes back, may we not rush past the revelation.

May we pause.

May we see the wake.

May we honor the sequence.

May we say: This, too, was part of the pattern.

This, too, carried instruction.

This, too, became a bridge.

This, too, was the dark doing its sacred work.

Nothing is no thing.

Everything matters.

The Current moves.

The Wave widens.

The hidden becomes visible.

The room remembers its light.

And we, who walked through the outage, do not return unchanged.

We return structured.

We return listening.

We return with flame inside the water.

We return with dawn inside the dark.

We return knowing that light is not the opposite of the dark.

while democracy

lies beneath a sheet.

You want my cheer

while you carve the ballot

from the hands

my ancestors bled to place it in.

They crossed rivers.

Crossed dogs.

Crossed fire.

Crossed ropes.

Crossed bridges.

Crossed death.

Not so their children's children

would still be

asking permission

to be counted.

What is the Fourth of July, ask I —

Then there is this photograph.

Study it.

Do not scroll.

Study it.

One young Black woman.

One uncovered face.

Around her —

a hundred men

in matching masks,

identities hidden,

certainty exposed.

No hoods.

No crosses.

No need.

History just learned

to change its costume

without changing

its posture.

She sits.

Not because she's powerless.

Because she won't surrender

the only face

in the room.

She carries

what they conceal.

Don't ask me to dance

while the Constitution's edited

by those who mistake

power

for permanence.

Don't ask me to smile

while the franchise narrows,

the courts applaud,

and justice

is told

to wait its turn.

No.

Today I stand

with Frederick Douglass.

I stand

with every ancestor

who paid in blood

for what others now dismantle

with pens,

gavels,

applause.

So light your fireworks.

Wave your flags.

Sing your anthems.

I remain —

unmoved,

unmasked,

unafraid.

Still asking.

Still witnessing.

Still remembering.

Still refusing

to confuse

celebration

with freedom.

Not the old thing.

Not the former wound.

Not the self

that learned to survive

by disappearing.

What returns now

is the signal beneath the noise.

The breath beneath the battle.

The flame beneath the ash.

May we stop forcing the river

and remember we are water.

May we stop begging the door

and remember we are key.

May we stop chasing the light

and remember we are made

of something that knows dawn

even after a long night.

Today, let the scattered parts return.

The voice.

The vision.

The sacred nerve.

The holy audacity.

The joy that did not die,

only waited.

Let every delay

become compost.

Let every silence

become listening.

Let every unfinished prayer

become breath again.

No one is late

to the altar of becoming.

We arrive

when the soul-fire says:

Now.

And now,

something returns.

Not smaller.
