As a legal sex worker, I regularly witness conversations that many therapists, coaches, researchers, and educators only hear about seconndhand. I see how shame shows up in relationships. I see how religious conditioning impacts intimacy. I see how men struggle to communicate desire. I see how women struggle to ask for what they want. I see couples trying to reconnect after years of disconnection. I see people carrying wounds, fears, insecurities, and fantasies they've never spoken aloud.

None of this makes sex workers therapists. We have different roles, different training, and different responsibilities.

But it does mean we possess a form of expertise that is often overlooked: lived, practical experience.

For some reason, our culture readily accepts the idea that lived experience matters in nearly every other field. We want veterans involved in discussions about war. We want teachers involved in discussions about education. We want nurses involved in discussions about healthcare.

Yet when it comes to sexuality, many professionals are still hesitant to include the people who spend thousands of hours directly engaging with the realities of human desire.

That hesitation comes at a cost.

When sex-positive spaces exclude sex workers, they lose access to a tremendous amount of information about how people actually behave rather than how they say they behave.

They lose insight into the difference between fantasy and reality.

They lose insight into sexual communication failures.

They lose insight into loneliness, performance anxiety, body image concerns, relationship struggles, aging, disability, grief, shame, and the countless ways these experiences intersect with sexuality.

Most importantly, they lose the opportunity to challenge their own assumptions.

A healthy discussion about sexuality should include multiple forms of expertise.

Research matters.

Clinical training matters.

Therapeutic experience matters.

And lived experience matters.

The goal isn't to replace therapists with sex workers or educators with entertainers. The goal is to recognize that every group sees different pieces of the same puzzle.

Imagine conferences that included sex workers on panels instead of only discussing them.

Imagine researchers consulting workers when designing studies.

Imagine therapists building professional relationships with workers who could offer additional perspectives on intimacy, desire, communication, and sexual expression.

Imagine a conversation about sexuality that wasn't filtered entirely through academia, medicine, religion, politics, or activism.

Imagine a conversation grounded in reality.

The future of sex-positive education isn't found in creating more divisions between experts and workers.

It's found in recognizing that expertise comes in many forms.

If we genuinely want a deeper understanding of human sexuality, then it's time to stop talking about sex workers as subjects of the conversation and start inviting them into it.

I've reinvented myself more times than I can count.

The woman I am today couldn't exist without every previous version of me.

That means sometimes you'll outgrow places, relationships, beliefs, careers, and identities that once felt like home.

That's not failure.

The goal is to create yourself.

One thing I've noticed about the relationship industry is that many of the people positioning themselves as experts seem remarkably uninterested in learning anything new.

The problem is that reducing human connection to simplistic categories can distract us from the things that actually matter.

For years, the word luxury has been treated like a dirty word in some corners of sex work. Somewhere along the way, outrage culture decided that calling yourself "luxury" meant you were putting down other workers. Suddenly, a word that should have described an experience became a morality test.

For the record, I don't personally use the word luxury to describe my own brand. It's simply not the language that feels most authentic to me, and to me my presence speaks for itself. But I've never begrudged another sex worker for using it. Their branding is their business, just as mine is mine. I don't assume they're trying to diminish anyone else, and I certainly don't think it's my place to police the words another adult chooses to describe their own work. We have enough challenges without creating new ones for each other.

I think we got it backwards.

Luxury has never been about looking like a Victoria's Secret model. It isn't about your race, your body type, your age, your gender identity, how much you charge, what platform you work on, or how many followers you have. Those things might influence someone's personal preferences, but they do not determine whether you are a luxury.

The luxury is access.

Our time is the luxury.

Our emotional labor is the luxury.

Our sexual labor is the luxury.

Our attention is the luxury.

Our presence is the luxury.

Whether you're a cis woman, a trans woman, non-binary, plus-sized, petite, tattooed, alternative, glamorous, disabled, twenty-five, or sixty-five—you are offering something that nobody is entitled to. Access to another human being is, by definition, a luxury.

That shouldn't be controversial.

Unfortunately, social media has a way of turning everything into outrage. Instead of focusing on building their own businesses, some people began policing the language of other sex workers. "You can't call yourself luxury." "You're implying someone else isn't." "Luxury means rich clients." "Luxury means you have to look like this."

According to who?

Those definitions were invented by a handful of loud voices, then repeated until people became afraid to use the word at all.

What a waste of energy.

I've worked inside multiple legal Nevada brothels for nearly a decade alongside women from every imaginable background. Every race. Every body type. Every age. Every personality. Every aesthetic.

One thing I've learned is this:

Guests don't all want the same woman.

The same guest who chooses me may come back next month and choose someone who looks absolutely nothing like me. Different hair. Different body. Different ethnicity. Different personality. Different culture. Different age.

Why?

Because human attraction has never been one-size-fits-all.

Variety isn't a flaw in our industry. It's one of our greatest strengths.

The idea that only one type of woman can be "luxury" says far more about the person making that claim than it does about the people they're criticizing. Most of it is internal misogyny, believing our worth is based on patriarchal ideals of beauty. Human nature says something different in my experience, and variety is the spice of life.

If you spend your career worrying about whether another worker is "allowed" to describe herself a certain way, you're focusing on the wrong thing. That's scarcity thinking.

Scarcity says someone else's success takes something away from you.

Abundance understands there is room for all of us.

Every worker brings something another person cannot. Different energy. Different chemistry. Different life experiences. Different conversation. Different fantasies. Different forms of intimacy.

That's the point.

Do racism, classism, colorism, ableism, ageism, transphobia, and countless other forms of discrimination exist?

Of course they do.

Ignoring those realities helps no one. Those barriers absolutely shape opportunities and experiences for many people, and we shouldn't pretend otherwise.

But believing those systems completely define your worth is equally limiting. At some point, you still have to believe that what you offer has value. You have to believe your time deserves respect. You have to believe your labor deserves compensation. You have to believe that access to you is something earned—not something people are automatically entitled to.

Many Sex-workers I know started as “survival workers”, and became successful after leaning into their strengths, and learning their value with experience. And lets be honest: survival work exists in every industry. The health industry has doctors and nurses, and anesthesiologist— but nurses aides barely making minimum wage also exist. The restaurant industry has famous millionaire chefs, and waitresses pulling hundreds of dollars in tips every shift, but there’s also people in the restaurant industry living in their cars. The fashion industry has expensive designers, and humble seamstresses working from their apartments barely making ends meet. Do you refuse to buy a designer handbag because you know there’s a seamstress somewhere making less money? of course you don’t. I doubt any of us would turn down a dinner at a fancy 5 star restaurant because somewhere out there is a restaurant worker not making enough to afford rent.

What you’re mad at isn’t other sex-workers advertising as luxury: Its capitalism. And last I’ve checked none of us are billionaires, or even millionaires.

If you don't believe your own time is a luxury, why should anyone else?

Luxury isn't a face.

Luxury isn't a price tag.

Luxury isn't a follower count.

Luxury isn't exclusivity for the sake of exclusion.

Luxury is recognizing that another human being's time, attention, emotional presence, and intimacy are precious.

Every one of us is doing the best we can with the cards we've been dealt. Stop measuring yourself against someone else's version of perfection. Stop letting strangers on the internet convince you that you need to earn the right to value yourself.

Whether you're the highest-paid worker in your city or just getting started, your time has value. Your energy has value. Your boundaries have value.

Access to you is not a right.

It's a luxury.

And every one of us deserves to believe that about ourselves.

One of the most interesting things I've observed over the years is how many of my guests are actively deconstructing the religion they were raised in.

Men and women alike.

Some are still believers. Some have become spiritual but not religious. Others have left organized religion entirely.

What they often have in common is a growing realization that many of the messages they received about sex, relationships, gender, and power don't hold up under scrutiny.

I understand that journey.

My own deconstruction started young. At 11 years old, I walked out of a church service and sat in my grandmother's car rather than listen to a pastor and congregation applaud the removal of a "known prostitute" from the church. I wrote more extensively about that experience elsewhere, but it was one of the first moments I recognized that something wasn't adding up.

Decades later, after becoming a sex worker, I found myself with a perspective few people ever get.

I've spent years talking to people about their relationships, marriages, desires, fears, fantasies, heartbreaks, insecurities, and beliefs.

And one thing continues to stand out:

The church talks about sex more than sex workers do.

Not healthy sexuality.

Not communication.

Not consent.

Not pleasure.

Not emotional intimacy.

Not partnership.

Not the realities of maintaining long-term relationships.

Instead, much of the conversation revolves around control.

Who can have sex.

When they can have sex.

With whom.

Under what circumstances.

Who should feel guilty.

Who should feel ashamed.

And, more often than not, women end up carrying the heaviest burden.

For generations, women's sexuality has been monitored, managed, restricted, and moralized in ways men's simply hasn't.

Women were taught to be gatekeepers.

To remain pure.

To avoid temptation.

To dress appropriately.

To protect men's thoughts.

To manage men's behavior.

To carry responsibility for everyone else's self-control.

Meanwhile, men's behavior was often treated as inevitable.

Not always approved of.

But frequently excused.

As a sex worker, I've come to believe the issue was never sex.

Human beings are sexual creatures.

There's nothing shocking about that.

The issue is power.

The issue is authority.

The issue is who gets to make the rules and who is expected to follow them.

Over the years I've spent time with religious men, conservative men, church leaders, and men who publicly champion traditional values.

That doesn't bother me.

What bothers me is the double standard.

The same institutions that condemn sexually autonomous women often quietly benefit from them.

The same cultures that shame women for sexuality frequently excuse powerful men when they cross boundaries, violate standards, or fail to live up to the values they publicly preach.

Again, the problem isn't desire.

The problem is unequal accountability.

The problem is expecting women to carry standards that powerful men themselves are unwilling to meet.

And increasingly, women are noticing.

They're noticing in their relationships.

They're noticing in politics.

They're noticing in their workplaces.

And they're noticing in religious institutions.

This is why I think so many leaders are confused by declining female participation.

They assume women are rejecting faith.

Many aren't.

They're rejecting hypocrisy.

They're rejecting systems that demand obedience while offering little reciprocity.

They're rejecting institutions that preach equality while practicing hierarchy.

They're rejecting the idea that female virtue should be measured by compliance.

Whether you see it as social evolution, cultural change, or the Age of Aquarius, something is shifting.

Women are less interested in authority for authority's sake.

They're less willing to accept shame as a spiritual practice.

They're less willing to shrink themselves to fit into structures that were not designed with their wellbeing in mind.

The good news is that women are not rejecting connection.

They're not rejecting meaning.

They're not rejecting spirituality.

They're rejecting control.

And any institution that mistakes those two things for one another is likely to keep losing women while wondering where they went.

I wrote my own biography. I built my own brand. I decide how I present myself to the world.

Most importantly, I decide who I spend time with.

As an independent contractor, I have the absolute right to decline any guest, refuse any activity, set my own prices, establish my own schedule, and determine how I conduct my business. Those decisions belong to me alone.

The relationship between a licensed brothel and its independent contractors is far closer to a business partnership than a traditional employer-employee relationship. Yes, there are contracts, but those contracts exist to establish the legal relationship between the brothel and the independent contractor, satisfy state and county regulations, and preserve each woman’s right to operate her own business. They are not contracts of ownership or employment.

The licensing process is extensive. The ongoing regulations are demanding. The standards are exceptionally high. In many respects, Nevada’s licensed brothels are regulated even more stringently than Las Vegas casinos. We jump through countless hoops because the system is designed to prevent exploitation and ensure that the women working inside licensed brothels are there by choice as independent business owners—not because someone else controls them.

Yet us Courtesans encounter prospective guests who genuinely believe they have some sort of leverage. They’ll threaten to complain because they don’t like the rates, because we won’t spend unlimited hours communicating for free before or between appointments, or because we’ve declined to accommodate a request.

Complain about what?

That an independent business owner exercised her legal right to run her own business?

I’ve had prospective guests assume that if they complain loudly enough, the ranch will somehow force me to lower my rates, answer more messages, accept an appointment, or perform activities I don’t offer. That isn’t just incorrect—it’s fundamentally incompatible with the legal structure of licensed brothels.

A licensed brothel cannot force an independent contractor to see a guest or participate in activities against her will. If they could, we wouldn’t be independent contractors.

So if a woman tells you no, quotes a price you don’t like, declines endless unpaid communication, or decides you’re simply not a good fit, that isn’t someone being “difficult.”

It’s a business owner making a business decision.

Someone believing they can override that decision by threatening complaints doesn’t make them powerful. It doesn’t make them influential. It simply demonstrates that they don’t understand how licensed Nevada brothels actually operate. It makes them look like a fool.

Independent contractors are not employees.

We are business owners.

It never works.

Because repression doesn't disappear when it's projected onto someone else.

I don't believe every woman wants to show her body.

And that's perfectly okay.

Freedom isn't everyone making the same choices.

Freedom is every woman having the right to make her own.

Without other women tearing her down for choosing differently.

I've been a housewife.

If you arrive in an Uber, Lyft or a taxi, and even the establishment’s complimentary “limo” service—which, let’s be honest, is almost never an actual limousine but usually a van or SUV—the driver or Ranch receives up to 30% of the money you pay me for our reservation.

Not from the fare you paid for the ride.

From my earnings.

Then the brothel takes its contractual percentage. Yes this means they are double dipping. Yuck!

By the time both commissions are deducted, what my guest and I agreed upon has been reduced to a fraction of the original amount.

Let’s call that what it is.

Exploitation.

Before anyone misunderstands me, let me be clear: I believe drivers deserve to be paid. Transportation is a real job, and I respect it.

But they’re already being paid.

You paid for the ride.

Many guests tip generously.

Some drivers are hourly employees.

They’re not the one spending hours preparing for a reservation.

They’re not doing the emotional labor of making someone feel safe, desired, understood, and comfortable.

They’re not doing the physically demanding work.

And they certainly aren’t living with the consequences of being a legal sex worker.

They don’t lose bank accounts.

They aren’t denied housing.

They don’t face healthcare discrimination.

They don’t fight child custody bias.

They don’t have strangers deciding they’re somehow less worthy because of what they do for a living.

They don’t carry the stigma.

Yet they’re collecting a percentage of someone else’s labor.

Imagine your Uber driver dropping you off at your office and then collecting 30% of your paycheck simply because they drove you there.

Most people would find that outrageous.

So why is it acceptable here?

The frustrating part is that almost no guest knows this is happening.

You think you’re paying for transportation.

Then you generously tip your driver.

Meanwhile, another 30% quietly comes out of the money you intended to spend with me.

That means I either absorb that loss...

...or I have to charge more just to remain profitable.

Not everyone has the budget for that.

So sometimes I end up getting fucked—literally and figuratively.

Guests deserve to know this.

Transparency matters.

If you’re physically able, drive yourself.

Borrow a car.

Rent one.

Have a friend drop you off.

Almost anything is better than participating in a system that quietly diverts another 30% away from the woman you’re actually coming to spend time with.

I know arriving in the “limo” sounds luxurious.

But the reality is far less glamorous.

It’s usually a van or SUV.

And by the time you walk through the front door, you’ve already reduced the budget available for the experience you actually wanted.

I’d much rather see that money invested in a longer reservation, a more memorable experience, or simply better value for both of us.

What about drinking?

Honestly, I don’t think anyone should arrive at a legal brothel so intoxicated they can’t safely make decisions or drive. I don’t accept heavily intoxicated guests because it isn’t safe for either of us.

If you have a disability or another legitimate reason you can’t drive, that’s different.

Reach out to me beforehand.

There are almost always creative solutions that don’t unnecessarily drain your budget or mine.

That simply isn't how this industry works.

Licensed Nevada brothels operate under a highly regulated legal framework. The women working inside them are independent contractors, not employees. Many of us operate legitimate businesses with LLCs or S corporations. I do.

Everything you see associated with my brand is my responsibility. I pay for my own marketing and advertising outside of the ranch's website, my website, professional photoshoots, licensing fees, mandatory medical testing, room and board, wardrobe, supplies, business expenses, and every other cost associated with running my business. I wrote my own biography. I built my own brand. I decide how I present myself to the world.

Most importantly, I decide who I spend time with.

As an independent contractor, I have the absolute right to decline any guest, refuse any activity, set my own prices, establish my own schedule, and determine how I conduct my business. Those decisions belong to me alone.

The relationship between a licensed brothel and its independent contractors is far closer to a business partnership than a traditional employer-employee relationship. Yes, there are contracts, but those contracts exist to establish the legal relationship between the brothel and the independent contractor, satisfy state and county regulations, and preserve each woman's right to operate her own business. They are not contracts of ownership or employment.

The licensing process is extensive. The ongoing regulations are demanding. The standards are exceptionally high. In many respects, Nevada's licensed brothels are regulated even more stringently than Las Vegas casinos. We jump through countless hoops because the system is designed to prevent exploitation and ensure that the women working inside licensed brothels are there by choice as independent business owners—not because someone else controls them.

Everyone working in a licensed Nevada brothel wants to be there. The investment required to obtain and maintain a license is substantial. Many of us have built entire businesses around our work, investing thousands of dollars into branding, advertising, websites, photography, continuing education, licensing, and the countless expenses that come with operating independently.

Yet us Courtesans sometimes encounter prospective guests who genuinely believe they have some sort of leverage. They'll threaten to complain because they don't like our rates, because we won't spend infinite hours communicating for free before or between appointments, or because we declined to accommodate a request.

Complain about what?

That an independent business owner exercised her legal right to run her own business?

We all have had prospective guests assume that if they complain loudly enough, the ranch will somehow force us to lower our rates, answer more messages, accept an appointment, or perform activities we don't offer. That isn't just incorrect—it's fundamentally incompatible with the legal structure of licensed brothels.

A licensed brothel cannot force an independent contractor to see a guest or participate in activities against her will. If they could, we wouldn't be independent contractors.

So if a woman tells you no, quotes a price you don't like, declines endless unpaid communication, or decides you're simply not a good fit, that isn't someone being "difficult."

It's a business owner making a business decision.

Believing one can override that decision by threatening complaints doesn't make one powerful. It doesn't make one influential. It simply demonstrates that they don't understand how licensed Nevada brothels actually operate. It makes them look like a fool.

Independent contractors are not employees.

We are business owners.
