What happens when we stop assuming we know what an institution believes—and actually go back to the teachings, history, documents, and evidence?

That is exactly what Larene from The Sacred Secret Society and I are going to do in this episode.

We are taking a critical look at the LDS Church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and examining some of the beliefs and teachings that distinguish Mormonism from mainstream Christianity.

This isn’t about telling you what to believe.

It isn’t about attacking individual members of the LDS Church.

And it certainly isn’t about demanding that anyone abandon their faith.

It is about asking questions.

What Does the LDS Church Actually Teach?

Many people who identify as Christian may have only a general understanding of LDS theology.

But when you begin looking more closely, there are significant theological differences between traditional Christian doctrine and LDS teachings—including ideas surrounding God, Jesus Christ, humanity, salvation, scripture, revelation, the afterlife, and the nature of the Church itself.

In this conversation, Larene and I will explore those differences and ask a simple question:

What does the evidence actually show?

We will look at the claims themselves, where they originated, how they developed, and how they compare with mainstream Christian theology.

And we’re going to do it from a critical perspective.

Feelings Are Not Facts

This is an important distinction for this conversation.

Something can feel deeply true without necessarily being factually true.

And something can feel deeply uncomfortable without necessarily being false.

If you’ve spent years building your worldview around a particular religious tradition, questioning that tradition can be emotionally difficult. That’s completely understandable.

But emotional discomfort cannot be used as a substitute for evidence.

If something is true, we should be able to investigate it.

We should be able to ask difficult questions.

We should be able to examine contradictory evidence.

And we should be willing to follow the evidence wherever it leads—even when we don’t like the destination.

If you’re not ready for that kind of conversation, that’s okay.

You may want to skip this episode and come back when you’re ready.

Truth Should Be Able to Survive Questions

One of the principles behind this entire discussion is very simple:

True things can stand up to questioning.

Questioning something doesn’t make it false.

Criticizing an institution doesn’t automatically make the criticism correct, either.

That’s why we’re not asking you to simply believe us.

We’re asking you to investigate.

Look at the sources.

Look at the history.

Look at the claims.

Look at the evidence.

And then make up your own mind.

Because if something is true, scrutiny should ultimately strengthen our understanding of it.

Lies cannot withstand the same kind of scrutiny.

Dissent Is Part of Freedom

We also want to make something very clear before this conversation begins:

Disagreement is welcome.

You don’t have to agree with Larene.

You don’t have to agree with me.

You are welcome to challenge our conclusions, point out mistakes, provide additional evidence, and make an argument for a completely different interpretation.

That’s what healthy discourse looks like.

Voices of dissent are valuable.

But dissent is not the same thing as abuse.

Harassment, bullying, threats, personal attacks, gaslighting, and attempts to intimidate people into silence will not be tolerated.

Those comments will be blocked immediately.

You can disagree with someone without trying to silence them.

In fact, the ability to criticize institutions and challenge prevailing ideas is one of the things that makes a society free.

Which brings us to a question I think is worth asking:

If you cannot criticize something, are you truly free?

This Conversation Isn’t About Telling You What to Believe

Larene and I aren’t asking you to take our word for anything.

We’re asking you to think.

Question.

Investigate.

Challenge.

And, most importantly, think for yourself.

If you’re LDS, ex-LDS, Catholic, Protestant, atheist, agnostic, or simply curious about Mormonism, I hope you’ll approach this conversation with an open mind—and with the willingness to distinguish between what we feel is true and what we can actually demonstrate.

Because questioning an idea isn’t an act of hatred.

Sometimes, questioning is how we discover what we actually believe.

Join us as we take a closer look at the LDS Church, its teachings, its history, and the evidence—and ask what happens when we stop protecting beliefs from questions and start allowing the questions to speak for themselves.

Come curious. Come skeptical. Come willing to think.

And above all:

Question everything. Including us.

Today, we take a deep dive into one of the most controversial interpretations of the Merovingians—that of researcher Fritz Springmeier.

Springmeier argues that the Merovingian bloodline was more than a medieval royal dynasty. According to his writings, it represented one branch of a network of elite families that allegedly preserved ancient bloodlines and exercised influence behind the scenes throughout history. These claims are highly controversial, are not accepted by mainstream historians, and often rely on speculative interpretations of genealogy, symbolism, and religious texts.

The Tribe of Dan

One of Springmeier’s central arguments concerns the biblical Tribe of Dan.

He suggests that members of the tribe migrated far beyond the boundaries described in the Old Testament, eventually influencing numerous European peoples and royal houses. Supporters of this theory often point to place names, legends, and historical traditions as evidence of these migrations.

The Merovingian Bloodline

Perhaps no royal family has inspired more speculation than the Merovingians.

Legends describe them as possessing unusual origins, mystical kingship, and sacred authority. Over time, these stories evolved into theories suggesting that the dynasty possessed a unique bloodline with hidden significance.

Springmeier interprets these legends as evidence of an elite lineage that survived through intermarriage with other powerful families.
