Romanian and Moldovan elections are a model of how democracy is handled in the NATO space: at the start of the elections, all registered candidates who have a different policy than total subservience to the US agenda are disqualified from running on national security grounds. Once the election proceeds only with the vetted candidates, all of them staunchly pro-American, the result gets annulled if a less controllable puppet wins, and in the re-run the Americans make sure to place a decorative quisling in a semi-vegetative state as President.

You cannot have both a ruinous proxy war for American global supremacy, in which your country is instrumentalized and milked of any possible resources for this aim, and democracy. People have a tendency to vote for their own welfare, rather than to preserve American imperial ambitions alive, and it’s hard to brainwash them to vote against their own interests no matter how much you flood the information space with psychotic propaganda about the impending danger that the Axis of Evil poses. At some point this will have to give, and I’m pretty sure that moment will be reached before the next election cycle in the Vlach part of the Odessa Triangle.

Romania’s best kept open secret is the fact that the budget deficit soars not because of some alleged corruption schemes by local politicians - an excuse that was conveniently brought forth to cover up the darker truth - but rather because of the enormous aid to Ukraine, whose amount is classified, and to the reallocation of funds for the military buildup. This is why, since the war paradigm is not going anywhere, the austerity imposed on the civilian economy can only increase, to allow for an expansion of the military industrial complex, for war preparations and for diverting huge resources towards Ukraine, the proxy at the vanguard of the fight against Russia.

Given that this path of becoming the proxy extension is not only pursued by the Romanian security establishment, but it has institutionalized itself as part of the country’s very raison d’être, what are the chances that Romanians will be given a chance to vote their way out of this? Spoiler: zero. Any political candidate running on a program to extricate Romania from this role as the next disposable Ukraine will be branded a Russian agent and will be barred from running, if not also investigated for treason.

Once Romania’s security establishment accepted this role of battering ram against the world’s biggest nuclear power, elections are regarded as just another domain where Russia’s hybrid war needs to be countered, together with the information space, the educational sphere, the media - essentially everywhere. Dissent from the American imperial agenda brands one as a traitor, and one quickly finds himself on the Ukrainian-imported architecture of intimidation, death threats and assasination, as I had the displeasure of finding out, before deciding to emigrate for my own safety.

While Solidarity, Fidesz and the Velvet Revolution were carefully prepared opposition movements, Romania in December 1989 had none of that - the “civic opposition” had to be invented from 1990 onwards, in order to oust the forces that wanted to preserve socialism and sovereignty. The agents of Britain (Victor Atanasie Stănculescu, Ion Rațiu) and those of France (Petre Roman, Radu Câmpeanu) were rejected en masse by the Romanian voters, in favour of the orphaned agents of the USSR grouped around Iliescu, and. those of the sovereigntist forces, grouped around the Communist nostalgics of the Socialist Workers’ Party, the patriotic ex Securitate officers in Vatra Românească-National Unity Party-Great Romania Party. Thus, the grand red-brown coalition government running Romania from 1992 to 1996 was the last sovereigntist one before the big US takeover.

In 1996, the first stooge of the Americans won the presidential election with full US backing, and he ruled over the big privatisation and austerity programmes reminiscent of the shock therapy through which the other ex Socialist states were robbed blind of their public assets in the early 1990s, in line with the precepts of the Washington Consensus. Romania never recovered since, and the public arena has been confiscated by the voices curated and cultivated by the United States in those early years of their regime change involvement. The activities of the Open Society Foundation and other Soros-incubated NGOs, together with those financed by USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute created a whole new class of agents of the American interests, posing as public intellectuals and technocratic specialists of public governance.

The short 2000-2004 rule by the sovereigntist social democrats could not reverse Romania’s servitude towards the United States, even more so because this was when Romania entered NATO and thus lost control over its secret services, foreign policy and armed forces. The next agent of the Americans was helped to win the presidency in 2004 and he ushered in the lawfare era: the transformation of the criminal justice system into a political weapon designed to eliminate any kind of public officials not willing to take direct orders from the Embassy of the United States of America and from the State Department. Ever since then, things got progressively worse, until today, when the entirety of the Romanian political spectrum is made up of agents of the US, competing against each other for being a more faithful servant of the Americans and hoping to win over the favours of the US administration. The only kind of political infighting still tolerated in the Romanian colony is between who is an efficient versus who is a sloppy defenfer of US interests and of the American point of view.

A whole generation of Romanians grew up in this manufactured atmosphere and managed to interiorize the American vision of the world as its own, consuming US-made entertainment, media, online content and other forms of consumer culture that has supplanred the national one. The brainwashing of the Romanian elites is nearly complete, as the majority of educated Romanians were brought up in the pro-American bubble and the minority of nationalists are delegitimized and persecuted by the official discourse and even by the institutions of the captured state.

In this predicament, Romania awaits to serve its final purpose, that of being sacrificed for the interests of the Empire. It no longer belongs to itself or to its people, as it is a zombie of a country, mentally hijacked to commit suicide serving another country’s agenda.

By this I do not mean that NATO or the EU will get pulled into the war against Russia. By this I mean that Romania is being engineered to be sacrificed in order to keep Ukraine going. Romania will be the log put on the Ukrainian campfire to prevent it from going out after it will have consumed all of Ukraine’s available manpower. I’m sure some middle-of-the-way solution can be found, in which Romania declares itself attacked by Russia, perhaps through a mass casualty event, and joins Ukraine in the war under its command, without this leading to any stringent defense obligations on behalf of the Western security structures of which we are part.

How did I come about to formulating this thesis? Did Putin pay me? One response I got from my fellow Romanians is that, if you think, it must be the Devil’s work, and today we know the Devil sits in the Kremlin.

No, it just so happens that I am a keen observer of emerging hot topics, and I obsess about them until I develop an understanding that I regard as satisfactory. This is what I did all throughout the Corona times as well, from the start of 2020 when I warned about the virus and I said society will close, anticipating the lockdowns by a month, to when I warned about the vaccines, after having learned about their side effects long before mainstream media begrudgingly acknowledged them. This is who I am as a person, I find it shameful not to understand the topics I have opinions on, and therefore I spend copious amounts of time informing myself until I get a satisfactory impression of them.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, after having amassed great amounts of information regarding its history, its causes, the way it is carried out, the objectives of each party etc, it began to dawn on me that the West is too invested in the whole project of weakening Russia to just let Ukraine be conquered, but at the same time it is not exactly suicidal and would not want to have its cities and citizens destroyed in a direct war with the world’s biggest nuclear power. So the solution is to continue its semi-involvement by expanding the proxy.

Caucasus countries have been tried, most notably Georgia, but for some reason Georgians refused to play ball and to commit national suicide for the interests of the West, even if that meant fighting for what they regard as sovereign Georgian territory under Russian occupation - the republics of Abhazia and North Ossetia. The Georgians still have some thinking elites, who weighed the risks and the benefits of the endeavour and decided not to go through with the proposed plan. I actually watch on YouTube various Georgian analysts like the ones on the channel titled '“The Golden Fleece”, and they seem pretty sophisticated in maneuvering international events to their country’s advantage, like any sovereign entity should do rather than become a pure vassal, a proxy to be sacrificed on the altar of external interests.

This is the problem Romania has. The external pressures and co-opting forces that Romania faced are the same for every country, but the resistance to them differed greatly, thus the varying outcomes. There is a resistance coefficient, derived from the strength of the internal forces of sovereigntism, that makes the medium of a country more or less permeable to outside co-opting forces, and in Romania this is negligible - definitely the lowest out of all the countries I am aware of. This is a result of many factors, and I have written extensively in Romanian about why this is so, but the result is that Romania is very easy to hijack for foreign interests and it does not function as an autonomous actor in the international arena.

This is bad in general, but this is suicidal when you are the closest neighbour to a country at war, who fights for its survival and who is obliged to try anything in order to save itself. It is not hard to imagine that Ukraine would try co-opting maneuvers with respect to Romania, in order to obtain from it what it needs: money, weapons, logistics, political support and, in the end, fighting men.

The problem is, these co-opting mechanisms are visible in plain sight, they are not even thinly disguised. Ukraine carries out operations on the territory of Romania which any sovereign state would not allow, ranging from manufacturing the official discourse through its agents of influence, to intimidating the dissenters with death threats and open promises to carry out terror attacks through its paramilitary operatives. Both categories of agents are not only tolerated by the Romanian authorities, but outright promoted as virtuous, and offered judicial immunity.

Any state’s continuation depends on its ability to distinguish between self and nonself. States are like biological organisms that need to fend off pathogens that try to hijack it, otherwise their survival is at stake. This is why their deep states, their secret services, their armed forces and their judiciaries function as an immune system to preserve social life and ensure the perpetuation of the state. But when they are hijacked, or unable to distinguish between self and nonself, or unaware that this is their role, as it is in the Romanian scenario, it is hard to bet on that state’s survival. The state in question is being slowly encroached upon, like in the embrace of an Anaconda, and its resources are taken over to feed the stronger organism - in this case a wounded and desperate one, even though one with greater capacity, both physical (read: kinetic) and intellectual (via its intelligence apparatus).

I have argued long and hard in the Romanian public space for the last couple of years that the discourse of help without limits and of support in the name of virtue leads us closer and closer to being co-opted by Ukraine, as our decision makers do not seem to be aware of the fact that they still need to preserve and advance Romania’s interests, not just to worship any virtuous cause that is promoted to them by the Western media. If they do not think at least in terms of ensuring national survival, of course the maximum way of helping Ukraine is to put ourselves completely at its disposal, allowing it to use us as it sees fit.

The outcome I got was that I was not able to persuade anybody that matters of my logic, and I was put on the Romanian Myrotvorets, for which reason I had to emigrate. Even though the brigade operating in Romania under the command of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Directorate openly admits that they maintain this as an assassination list, and their public manifesto states in no ambiguous terms that they are preparing to conduct terrorist attacks on the territory of Romania, the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office was uninterested, saying that they did not discover any indication of crimes being committed.

Of course, if things were the other way around and I would publish such a terrorist manifesto or maintain a public hitlist, I would be arrested the next day, but since the people doing this are the agents of the country we were taught to worship, it’s all fine and dandy.

This is not the trajectory of a country on whose existence I would still bet beyond 2030. I will not even go into the topic of the annulled elections, the prohibition of various candidates on geopolitical grounds, the policing of speech and widespread censorship aimed at sovereigntist voices and the equating in the public discourse of partiotism with treason. You need to do the bare minimum to support your continuation as a state, and Romania falls short of that, unfortunately.

Those who don’t know history are bound to repeat it. Those who do, are bound to watch its repetition by those who don’t. I, as someone who sees it coming, am forced to watch from afar the Ukrainization of the Romanian raison d’être, and to see how my country is becoming instrumentalized more and more for the interests of its bigger neighbour. Even though the problem outlined here is a very straightforward one, my direct experience of outlining it even to friends and relatives, let alone to the general public, has been an abject failure, as the great majority of Romanians fail to even think in these terms that make possible the realisation of the issue.
