How to Build a Complete SaaS Business + Sales Enrollment Forms in One Sitting

If you want to build a SaaS business, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is starting with the software.

Start with the business.

You don’t need 50 features.

You don’t need a complicated funnel.

And you certainly don’t need to spend the next six months building something before you find out whether anybody wants it.

Instead, build a very simple system.

Here’s what to do.

1. Start With One Problem

Find a specific group of people who have a problem they are already trying to solve.

Then build a simple SaaS product that helps them solve that problem faster, easier, or better.

Don’t try to build the next Salesforce.

Think smaller.

One person.

One problem.

One useful piece of software.

If the software saves someone several hours a month, helps them make more money, eliminates something they hate doing, or gives them a result they couldn’t easily get before, you potentially have a business.

2. Build the Minimum SaaS They Will Pay For

This is where people tend to overcomplicate things.

Your first version doesn’t need every feature you can imagine.

Ask:

What does this software absolutely have to do for someone to happily pay me every month?

Build that.

Get people using it.

Then improve it based on what your actual customers want — rather than spending months guessing what they might want.

3. Create a Simple Sales Enrollment Form

Now you need a way to sell it.

And this doesn’t necessarily require a giant 14-page funnel.

Create a simple page that explains:

Here’s your problem.

Here’s what the software does.

Here’s what you’ll be able to accomplish with it.

Here’s what it costs.

Here’s how to start.

Then give them an enrollment form where they can become a customer immediately.

Simple.

4. Increase the Value of Each Customer

Once the basic system works, look at what else the customer logically needs.

Could you offer setup?

Templates?

Training?

A workshop?

Premium features?

Additional usage?

A related service?

This is where order bumps and upsells can become incredibly powerful.

You aren’t randomly throwing more products at someone.

You’re asking:

What is the next logical thing this customer needs to get a better result?

Offer that.

5. Build Around Recurring Revenue

Finally, connect the entire system to recurring revenue.

This is what makes SaaS so interesting.

Imagine acquiring 10 new customers this month.

Then another 10 next month.

And another 10 the month after that.

You’re not necessarily starting over at zero every month.

Your previous customers can continue paying while new customers are added.

That’s how a relatively small SaaS business can begin developing meaningful recurring revenue.

And you don’t need thousands of customers for the numbers to become interesting.

100 customers paying $49 a month is $4,900 in monthly recurring revenue.

500 customers is $24,500 a month.

1,000 customers is $49,000 a month.

That’s the model.

One audience.

One painful problem.

One useful SaaS product.

One simple sales enrollment system.

A few logical ways to increase customer value.

And recurring revenue underneath the whole thing.

Don’t start by trying to build a massive software company.

Build something small that solves a real problem.

Create a simple way to sell it.

Get your first customers.

Improve it.

Then repeat.

That’s how I’d approach building a SaaS business today.

One of the things I am realizing that holds us back in life, especially if you follow and trust God -

is not doing what He gives you to do.

Why would He give you the next thing when you haven’t finished the last thing?

Ps 37:24: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

If you believe He orders your steps . . . essentially lays them out for you . . .

Then would those be the best steps to walk?

I’ve been working on walking where He wants to walk each day

Asking Him for direction throughout the day

Instead of just one fill-up quiet time in the morning

This is my 20th year in business online

Good years, rough years.

Years we traveled a lot.

One year we sold a townhome, put our stuff in storage, lived in a hotel for a few months, and bought a new house.

One year we sold that house.

I build a large rock garden one year at that house.

Skied for years.

Hiked for years.

Brought a dog into this world.

She died in my arms 14 years later.

Some months cash flow is really really bad, even if on paper I made money.

Other months cash flow is better than profits.

The #1 thing after my relationship with God and the power and grace He has poured out on me, that helped me have the stability to get through it all?

Getting Subscribers onto my list and writing them enough that some get tired of me, and others fall in love with me.

The #2 thing: Constantly learning new things to teach so I can create new products.

People don’t want to buy an old product from years ago.

They want your NEW product.

So most weeks I make a new product.

Some big.

Some small.

Now, you can use Substack to go all - out and build your email list.

SO MUCH EASIER than when I built my list over the years.

But you do have to come up with ideas and make a new product each week.

Now, I’ve you’ve purchased my One Hour a Day Blueprint you know how that can be done in an hour a week.

But you gotta get a few reps under your belt.

Then it gets easier.

And the markets are changing so much now that you have to learn the new angles and teach them in new products.

Sometimes I repurpose my old product and add the new stuff.

Sometimes I have my ai assistant who’s been trained on my work to help me.

So if you want to do this for yourself, here’s what I recommend:

Step 1: Build Your Email List Every Day

Everything starts here.

If you don’t have new people joining your audience, eventually you’ll run out of people to serve.

That’s why I spend time every day getting subscribers.

Today, I honestly think Substack is one of the easiest places to do that. You can also use forums, Facebook groups, Reddit, LinkedIn, or other communities where your ideal audience already gathers.

The goal is simple:

Help people.

Earn trust.

Invite interested people onto your email list.

Do that every day.

Step 2: Keep Learning

One of the biggest mistakes experts make is teaching the same thing for years.

Markets evolve.

AI changes.

Platforms change.

People’s questions change.

If you’re constantly learning, you’ll never run out of things to teach.

Every book you read...

Every experiment you run...

Every problem you solve...

Can become your next article, workshop, or course.

Your business grows as your knowledge grows.

Step 3: Create One New Product Each Week

People naturally get excited about what’s new.

That doesn’t mean every product has to be revolutionary.

Sometimes it’s a one-hour workshop.

Sometimes it’s a short guide.

Sometimes it’s a checklist or framework.

Sometimes it’s simply an updated version of something you’ve taught before.

The important thing is maintaining the habit.

One product.

Every week.

Over time, those products become an incredible library of assets that continue serving your audience for years.

Step 4: Let AI Help You Move Faster

This doesn’t mean letting AI build your business for you.

It means using it as an assistant.

I regularly have AI help me organize ideas, outline workshops, draft articles, brainstorm examples, and improve clarity.

The thinking is still mine.

The experience is still mine.

AI simply helps me create faster.

Used wisely, it allows you to spend more time teaching and less time staring at a blank screen.

Step 5: Ship Before It’s Perfect

This may be the hardest lesson of all.

Your first products won’t be masterpieces.

Mine weren’t either.

But every product teaches you something.

Every workshop makes you a better teacher.

Every article improves your writing.

Every launch builds confidence.

The only way to become someone who creates products easily is to create a lot of products.

There isn’t a shortcut.

There are only reps.

Step 6: Repeat the Process

This is where stability comes from.

Not one amazing launch.

Not one viral video.

Not one perfect product.

Consistency.

Every week you’re adding another product to your business.

Every day you’re adding new subscribers to your list.

Every month your audience knows you a little better.

Every year your library becomes more valuable.

Eventually something remarkable happens.

Instead of wondering where your next sale will come from, you have a growing audience, a growing collection of products, and a simple rhythm you can repeat again and again.

That’s what has brought stability to my business.

Not chasing the next big opportunity.

But faithfully building one relationship, one product, and one week at a time.

I need your feedback on a conversation with Jesus

It’s one thing to experience an intense growth spurt with Jesus like I’ve done the last couple of years.

Incredible pressure on the outside.

I turned to Him.

Hours each day with Him.

He has given me an incredible level of peace and satisfaction with Him even as the external is still very difficult. Circumstances are rough.

but the peace and enjoy I am experiencing with Him is unlike anything I can describe, nor could have imagined prior to this time.

I want to pass on one of the conversational methods I’ve used with Jesus wherein that He has shown me peace and freedom.

I feel like I could write and write and write about how it feels to me.

But yet, that does nothing for someone else except possibly be an encouragement.

Through this process, I’ve developed/been given/figured out/discovered a general process for initiating time with Jesus that usually yields a conversation that brings me closer to Him.

The challenge: it’s not personally word for word for me this way each time.

But I’m curious if you’d be willing to take 10 - 15 minutes and take these questions to Jesus about something you are worried or concerned about today, and just drop me a quick comment as to:

The Simplest Business Plan I Know

Over the years, I’ve studied countless marketing strategies, funnels, launches, and growth hacks.

Most of them work.

But I’ve discovered that almost every successful online business can be reduced to four simple actions.

Attract people.

Every business needs a steady stream of new people discovering your work. Write articles. Publish videos. Post on Substack. Comment thoughtfully. Be visible. If new people aren’t entering your world, your business eventually stops growing.

Help people.

Don’t just chase attention. Solve problems. Answer questions. Share what you’ve learned. The faster you become genuinely useful, the faster people begin trusting you.

Serve people.

Serving means continuing the relationship. Send helpful emails. Create useful products. Answer questions. Improve your existing resources. Give people opportunities to go deeper with you. Selling isn’t separate from serving when your products genuinely help people.

Repeat.

This is where most people quit.

They publish for a week.

They write for a month.

Then they stop before momentum has time to build.

Businesses rarely grow because of one brilliant idea.

They grow because someone keeps showing up long after the excitement fades.

That’s really the entire system.

Attract people.

Help people.

Serve people.

Repeat.

Do those four things consistently, and you’ll build something far more valuable than a business.

You’ll build trust.

And trust is what every lasting business is built upon.

So what does that look like in actual business steps?

Honestly, it isn’t a funnel.

It isn’t AI.

It isn’t social media.

It isn’t even email marketing.

If I had to reduce everything I’ve learned to four simple steps, it would be this:

Get leads.

Every business needs new people entering the front door. Whether it’s Substack, YouTube, LinkedIn, referrals, or guest articles, nothing replaces a steady flow of new people discovering your work.

Build relationships.

People rarely buy from strangers. They buy from people they know, trust, and believe genuinely care about helping them. Relationships aren’t a marketing tactic—they’re the foundation of a sustainable business.

Create simple products.

Don’t wait for the perfect course or masterpiece. Solve one problem. Teach one lesson. Create one workshop. Publish one guide. Simple products created consistently almost always outperform brilliant ideas that never get finished.

Repeat forever.

This is where the magic happens.

Most people are looking for the breakthrough.

I’ve found that breakthroughs usually come from repeating the right activities long enough for momentum to take over.

Get leads.

Build relationships.

Create simple products.

Repeat.

Do that week after week, month after month, and you’ll eventually look back and realize you didn’t build your business through one spectacular launch.

You built it through hundreds of small, consistent actions that quietly compounded into something extraordinary.

Before you head to the mountains or the beach or the park, I want to share a couple thoughts with you.

Freedom doesn’t come in one day, it comes through consistent daily choices over time.

In the short run, our decisions don’t seem to make much impact.

We go on a diet and we are hungry and we still look like we looked in 2 weeks.

We start being more kind to people and 2 weeks later, some are taking advantage of us.

We start to write articles and make products and 2 weeks later we have 4 subscribers and 2 hate mail emails.

But . . .

fast forward a year:

We have lost 20 pounds, gained 5 pounds of muscle . . and we have to go clothes shopping.

We are kind to everyone, all the time . . . and the ones who take advantage of it, we quietly ignore them or disassociate with them - and that makes room for kinder people to surround us.

We have written 365 articles, we have 10 products 1200 subscribers and $1400 a month in extra income (that’s 2 car payments)

Sure, you might look at that and think but I want to lose 40 lbs. Sure . . . but isn’t 20 better than where you are today?

Or you think, I want the unkind people around me to become kind.

Sorry, they probably won’t.

So YOU get to choose . . . be kind and allow some people to self-select themselves out of your life, and new voices come in?

Oh?? you don’t want to be at $1400 a month - you REALLY want a huge mansion . .

Sorry . . . you need 5 or 10 years of consistency . . .

By the way, same thing with your faith . . .

It’s takes time and consistency to grow your relationship with Jesus.

Not just Bible reading.

Not just petitioning better.

But truly spending time with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Abiding with Him.

Consider this:

⁵“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears muchfruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Jesus, quoted by John as recorded in John 15:6

Sure, you spend an hour a day with Jesus for 2 weeks . . and you are tired and missed 2 deadlines.

But one year later . . oh! Your life is radically transformed and you have true freedom.

From the mouth of Jesus:

³⁶Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

John 8:36

Friend, I hope you’ll take some time this weekend to reflect on this.

Print this out and put it in your pocket.,

When you get some downtime, take it to Him.

If you trust your family or friends, consider this with them.

Enjoy your weekend!

Come back refreshed and ready to lose weight, grow muscle, be kind, build a business, and get close to Jesus!!!

2 interesting weeks for me - spiritual

please, please don’t read this if you don’t want to hear about spiritual things

when I used to ski, I talked about my trips.

when I lived in a hotel room for the first few months of Covid, I did recordings from that hotel room.

when I learned about how to relentlessly focus and go all-in and that’s a component of my success that I think is missing for many, I talk about that.

This business isn’t just business for me.

It’s a place where I share my life.

After 20 years here . . . the business side is boring.

so please don’t judge this:

last week I had an opportunity to do street ministry.

7 years ago I think I had a call from God to go to a school for street ministry, and I allowed the distractions of life and the pressures of living up to the expectations placed on me, the pressure of caring for a family the best way I knew how, even when it wasn’t enough, I allowed those pressures and my own weakness and insecurity and fear of judgement and shame, to weekly derail that until the opportunity was gone.,

Somehow I skirted it again last year.

Last week, I said, I’m just gonna do this, no matter what.

I felt a voice in my spirit: “The enemy is going to fight you on this”

I went Wednesday night anyhow.

No apparent fight.

Thursday night.

Looked like the Lord was all-in.

I have never, in 45 years of following Christ, done street ministry.

My background in the south was that street ministry was telling people how worthless they are . . . blah blah blah

Today, after nearly dying at least 3 times, fighting for a dying marriage for years, crying for nearly a year, and countless hours and hours on my knees and with Him people, I believe God created everyone in His image - lovely, and beautiful and He loves everyone intrinsically and deeply - even before they are saved, even while in their misery or mistakes

God loves everyone with the greatest love anyone could ever love.

People need more love and prayer, not judgement.

And these young people are on fire for Jesus, and I got to join them.

The love I experienced, the realization of how powerful it is to just offer prayer and share what Jesus has done for me . .

gives me so much to chew on

But it’s interesting, it seems the attacks against me have amplified - since

I even wonder if it’s like with Daniel, he prayed and it took the angel 21 days to get to him because the enemy fought with him.

I wonder if the enemy tried to attack last week but couldn’t get through the angels.,

And finally this weekend the enemy was able to get one of the little buggers through,.

But the big boys are still being stopped.

Distractions, criticisms, negativity, my own mind asking, am I doing the right thing?.

Sunday someone asked me to lunch, and I said yes, but I have no idea how to talk with him -

Then someone came to a meeting today - he never or hardly ever comes here . . . walks up to me afterwards and says, “I came here because I feel I hurt you in some way, and I want to apologize.”

I told him I couldn’t remember anything so there’s nothing to forgive.

He immediately said something to the effect of “whew” and turned around and left, joyous and relieved.

After he left, I remembered what he heard from me and I can see how he might have thought he offended, but he did not . . . it wasn’t him, it was me,, and if it were him in isolation, I would likely have blown it off . . . but the combination of several people out of the blue appearing to come to me in love . . . seeming to want to make things right when I have turned the other cheek, walked away, forgiven, and so on . . .

Someone else took me to breakfast out of the blue and shared things I never thought I would hear from him.

I think the enemy poked a bear and now the angels - and Jesus - are working overtime to repair wounds and clear things.

here’s the thing, I’m not perfect.

Far from it.

I’ve made so many mistakes.

More mistakes than most people.

And since if you’ve followed me for years like most people who get this email, I can say something personal and intimate here:

please don’t judge me for this.

I’ve also taken more risks and more massive action than many people.

With risk taking comes upside - and mistakes.

With the nature of risk taking comes the nature of sometimes taking risks and doing things wrong.

Maybe it’s my pride, and even though I thought I gave Jesus all my pride and agency this morning . .

Maybe it’s my pride

or maybe it’s just confidence in the person God made me to be:

Personally, I’d rather go all-out and do big things and risk changing the world and risk breaking my leg skiing fast and risk going to jail for exercising the right to petition (I did that once in California, we literally went on a campaign exercising the right to speak on public ground where we were told not to or we would be arrested, and I was prepared to be the person to go to jail to kick off a lawsuit to change the laws in California, because I didn’t have a family at the time, so I was the best candidate to sit in jail for a few days to help make the world a better place) but for some reason, they didn’t arrest me so alas the team couldn’t file the lawsuit.

but if my faint memory is correct, the place where we were exercising our right to speak in public might have changed the rules and stopped harassing those that did .. . but I don’t remember the details so I may have that wrong

I’d rather go all-out and tell people about Jesus on my list and in my articles and a few get offended

and it’s worth it to hear from someone who was an alcoholic for years, he heard one of my faith based calls, and turned back to Jesus and quit drinking . . . and now he is an ordained minister . . .

the person who turned back to Jesus after years of going another way,

the person who listened to my faith based calls in a foxhole in Iraq, and they helped keep him going,

and many more stories like that

and yes, my confident and hopeful nature constantly motivates people by telling them “you can do it”

even though honestly, some people maybe can’t do it

(see how I can’t say it: some people can’t do it. Why?? Because I honestly believe that any human who wants something bad enough can do it. But that’s delusional, isn’t it? my confidence is so strong that sometimes it defies reality.)

but I can’t see through the emails to see who can’t do it so I motivate them all

(by the way, the number one reason I believe most people can’t do it:

they don’t have the staying power, the stamina, the discipline to FIGHT through when it’s hard)

look,

sometimes I make mistakes in emails

sometimes I send too many emails

sometimes I procrastinate

I forget to put a link where it belongs

or finish a page or a forget to finish a course

. . .

I wrote another long email yesterday I shouldn’t send ever.

I’ll probably regret this one too.

Because if you don’t one day you will be on your deathbed and regret all the things you didn’t do.

All the people you didn’t call.

All the people you didn’t forgive.

I better stop now

Cause I don’t want to watch my words.

But I also don’t want to offend

And yes, before you accuse me of calling the kettle black . .

I’ve repeatedly taken my own sins before the Lord

the people I didn’t forgive

the people I hurt unintentionally

the people I procrastinated with

the people I feared

I love you.

That thing that you KNOW you should do today but you are too scared or too wimpy to do?

You don’t think I’m scared to hit publish?

So if I’m scared to hit publish and send and I can’t take it back

Why don’t YOU do that thing you are scared of?

At Christmas we will all look back on this year

If Christmas were today, and you looked back on this year, would you be satisfied?

What would you regret?

What would you say, right now, if I had spent more time (working out) or (building content) or (getting counseling) or (praying) or (focusing on a single business model) or . . or . . . or . . .

I would have _____ result?

Here’s the thing, this doesn’t have to be shame.

And it probably shouldn’t be “Sure, I haven’t done it - but there’s still 1/2 a year left”

The wise thing is to ask, “if I continue my exact trajectory, will I be satisfied with this year?”

If yes no change needed.

But if no . . .

Can I ask you a direct question and not offend?

I’ll ask myself as well -

Question: How will it feel on Christmas to look back and think, yeah, on June 29th I had the opportunity to make some changes . .

but I didn’t.

I wish I had buckled down in (your biggest goal this year).

Friend, it’s not too late to change the result of this year.

But it will require changing your activity or your mindset or getting more education or taking more action.

If you do nothing different, next Christmas will be no different than last Christmas.

I made a short list of what I see as ai excels versus humans excel (of course remembering that ai was not only created by humans, but programmed by humans and ALL it’s raw data was created by . . .humans)

Ai llm is especially good at certain things:

very fast research
deep pattern recognition
summarizing complex topics in seconds brainstorming ideas
Doing lightning fast market penetration studies
and more

Humans are better at:

writing the words so they resonate with other humans
making key decisions
understanding context
determining the ethics of a decision or situation

This is the deeper discussion with my ai assistant:

The mistake many people make is assuming AI and humans are competing for the same job.

In reality, the highest-performing people are using AI for speed, scale, memory, and pattern detection, while humans remain responsible for meaning, judgment, wisdom, and commitment.

The future probably doesn’t belong to AI.

And it probably doesn’t belong to humans working alone.

It belongs to people who understand this division of labor:

In that model, AI becomes an amplifier.

The human remains the architect.

AI helps you move faster.

You still decide where you’re going.

I do the thinking, the decision making, the deep questioning, I have to personally fill in the gaps or keep asking for gaps and errors, because ai consistently finds patterns, but misses details - and many times, very important details.

What If You Only Had One Hour Per Day?

Many people assume that building an online business requires unlimited time.

The reality is that many people with unlimited time accomplish very little.

They spend their days researching, tweaking, planning, reorganizing, redesigning, and consuming information.

At the end of the week, they feel busy.

But they haven’t actually moved their business forward.

What changed my business wasn’t finding more time.

It was learning how to operate under constraints.

Specifically:

What would I do if I only had one hour today?

That question changes everything.

Most Business Activities Don’t Matter

This may sound harsh, but most of the activities people perform every day have very little impact on revenue.

They feel productive.

They feel responsible.

But they don’t produce results.

When I look at my own business, there are only a handful of activities that consistently matter:

Generating leads
Building relationships
Creating offers
Making sales
Improving existing assets

Everything else is secondary.

That doesn’t mean other tasks are useless.

It means they should not consume the majority of your time.

Constraints Create Clarity

When you only have sixty minutes, you stop pretending.

You can no longer spend three hours choosing a logo.

You can’t spend two days researching software.

You don’t have time to endlessly rewrite something that was already good enough.

Instead, you ask:

“What is the highest-value thing I can accomplish right now?”

That question forces clarity.

It forces decisions.

It forces movement.

Some of the biggest breakthroughs in my business happened when I stopped trying to optimize everything and started focusing on the few activities that actually generated momentum.

The Simple Business Cycle

Over the years, I’ve noticed that almost every successful online business follows the same basic cycle.

It looks something like this:

Attract attention
Capture leads
Build trust
Make an offer
Deliver value
Repeat

The tools may change.

The platforms may change.

The technology certainly changes.

But the underlying process remains remarkably consistent.

Many entrepreneurs get distracted because they are constantly looking for a new platform, a new strategy, or a new shortcut.

In reality, most growth comes from executing the same fundamentals repeatedly.

Why AI Changes The Game

One reason I’m excited about the current moment is that AI dramatically reduces the time required to perform many business tasks.

Today, AI can help you:

That doesn’t eliminate the need for human judgment.

If you gave me sixty minutes today, I would not try to do everything.

I would focus on the handful of actions most likely to create momentum.

Because momentum compounds.

One lead becomes ten.

One workshop becomes a product.

One customer becomes many.

One hour becomes a business.

And that’s exactly why I’m fascinated by the idea of building an online business around constraints rather than unlimited time.

Substack is the Perfect Platform for my One Hour a Day Business

Having spent more than two decades working with entrepreneurs, I’ve observed a pattern that shows up again and again.

Most people don’t struggle because they aren’t smart enough.

They don’t struggle because opportunities don’t exist.

And in most cases, they don’t struggle because they lack information.

They struggle because they have difficulty concentrating on the few activities that matter long enough for results to compound.

The reality is that creating a Substack business that gives you freedom is far less complicated than it used to be on other platforms.

Simple doesn’t mean effortless.

But it does mean straightforward.

When you strip everything else away, there are only three essential components.

Generate leads.
Build relationships.
Create products.

That’s the entire framework.

The specific platform is much less important than most people assume.

I’ve long believed that frequency is more valuable than most people realize.

One email a day.

Two emails a day.

Sometimes even three.

Not because you’re trying to push people into buying.

Because repeated exposure creates familiarity.

And familiarity creates trust.

People buy from people they recognize.

They buy from people who show up regularly.

They buy from people who continue delivering value.

The objective isn’t constant selling.

I disagree.

I think most people would benefit from creating two simple products every week.

Provide a useful outcome.

The second product is something written.

A checklist.

A workbook.

A template.

A collection of resources.

Every week.

Think about the impact of doing that for twelve months.

You wouldn’t end the year with just a few offers.

You’d have well over one hundred assets serving your audience.

And every additional asset gives existing customers another reason to buy from you.

That’s where predictability comes from.

That’s where recurring income comes from.

That’s where freedom begins.

Yet one challenge derails this process for almost everyone.

Focus.

More accurately, a lack of focus.

Most people believe their problem is a shortage of time.

In my experience, that’s rarely the real issue.

The real issue is how they use the time they already have.

The most effective entrepreneurs I’ve known understand the power of constraints.

If they have thirty minutes, they work within thirty minutes.

If they have sixty minutes, they work within sixty minutes.

They don’t spend hours preparing to create.

They create.

Constraints force choices.

The clock creates urgency.

Ironically, people often accomplish more with less available time.

Unlimited time encourages endless refinement.

Limited time encourages completion.

And completed products generate results.

Ideas sitting in notebooks do not.

A freedom-based business isn’t built through endless hustle.

It’s built through the repeated cycle of attracting leads, deepening relationships, and creating valuable assets.

One hour at a time.

One email at a time.

One product at a time.

Eventually those small efforts begin to compound.

Freedom Is a System, Not a Stroke of Luck

After more than 20 years of coaching entrepreneurs, I’ve noticed something interesting.

Most people don’t fail because they lack intelligence.

They don’t fail because they lack opportunity.

And they rarely fail because they don’t know enough.

They fail because they cannot consistently focus on the right things long enough for momentum to build.

The truth is that building a freedom-based business is actually much simpler than most people think.

Not easy.

But simple.

At its core, the system has only three moving parts.

First, get leads.

Second, build relationships.

Third, create useful products.

That’s it.

The platform doesn’t matter nearly as much as people think.

You can use Substack.

Instagram.

Facebook Groups.

YouTube.

LinkedIn.

A blog.

A podcast.

Whatever platform fits your personality and audience.

The key is that people must enter your world somehow.

On most platforms, that means offering a lead magnet and capturing their email address.

On Substack, it may simply mean getting them to subscribe and then exporting those subscribers to your email list.

But the principle never changes.

If you aren’t consistently generating leads, you don’t have a business.

You have activity.

Once someone joins your list, your next job is relationship.

This is where most people dramatically underestimate the power of consistency.

The relationship is built through communication.

Emails.

Stories.

Lessons.

Observations.

Ideas.

Encouragement.

For years, I have believed that frequency matters more than most marketers realize.

One email a day.

Two emails a day.

Sometimes three.

Not because you’re trying to pressure people.

Because familiarity creates trust.

People buy from people they know.

They buy from people they hear from.

They buy from people who repeatedly provide value.

The goal isn’t to sell constantly.

The goal is to become part of the rhythm of someone’s life.

Then comes the third piece: creating products.

Most entrepreneurs make product creation far more difficult than it needs to be.

They imagine every product must be a massive course, a complicated membership, or a six-month project.

I don’t believe that.

In fact, I think most people would be better served creating two simple products every week.

The first is a live workshop.

Sixty minutes.

Teach something useful.

Solve a problem.

Share a framework.

Answer a question.

The second is a print product.

A guide.

A checklist.

A workbook.

A template.

A resource collection.

Something practical and immediately useful.

That’s it.

Two products.

Every week.

Imagine doing that for a year.

You wouldn’t have two products.

You would have more than one hundred assets serving your audience.

And every new product creates another opportunity for an existing customer to buy again.

That is where stability comes from.

That is where recurring revenue comes from.

That is where freedom comes from.

But there is one obstacle that destroys this process for almost everyone.

Focus.

Or more specifically, the lack of it.

People assume they need more time.

I rarely find that to be true.

What they need is more awareness of time.

The most productive entrepreneurs I’ve worked with understand constraints.

If they have thirty minutes, they create within thirty minutes.

If they have sixty minutes, they create within sixty minutes.

They don’t spend three hours thinking about creating.

They create.

The constraint forces decisions.

The clock forces clarity.

The deadline forces action.

Ironically, having less time often produces more results than having unlimited time.

Because unlimited time encourages perfectionism.

Limited time encourages completion.

And completed products change businesses.

Unfinished ideas do not.

The freedom lifestyle isn’t built by working twenty-hour days.

It’s built by consistently generating leads, nurturing relationships, and creating useful assets week after week.

One hour at a time.

One product at a time.

One relationship at a time.

Over time, those small actions compound into something powerful:

God’s Economy:

The Bible makes it clear that if we give, we receive.

It makes it clear that God provides for His own.

It makes it clear we can trust Him.

But I think that our own striving to be in “control” of our lives, our culture’s system of “work 40 hours a week and get a paycheck on Friday,” and our own trust issues with things we cannot “see,” like how in the world can He provide money for us?

We can imagine that God rained manna down for the Israelites.

And we can imagine that He sent quail.

And that the Egyptians gave gifts of gold and silver and jewelry to the Egyptians as they were leaving.

But we cannot believe God can provide for us because He can’t print money and He can’t write checks for jobs we don’t do.

So because we are accustomed to believing that the way we exist and get paid is through printed dollars and jobs we do, I think it’s hard for us to simply enter into His economy.

I’ve had conversations with people in the past who talked about God’s economy, but I usually dismissed what I heard, because they were either broke and doing nothing for themselves OR they had a well-established business and had good cash flow.

Rarely if ever did I hear someone with a “real job” living on God’s economy.

Sure, they tithe.

And they believe God stretches their money . . .

And that’s okay.

But when you have nothing . . and simply rely on God, it’s amazing how He provides.

I used to believe that this business required 40 - 60 hours of work.

And at the time, I was making more in dollars.

But when I look back, was I living better?

Happier?

More peaceful?

Through events in my life that have transpired that have somehow affected my concentration and focus, I simply can’t work 40 hour weeks anymore.

And the crazy thing is, when I write that, I think, so many of my clients have said that over the years.

They are looking to have an internet business so they don’t HAVE to work so much.

But when I would coach them, I would stress that they needed to work MORE.

(And if you only want to work 10 minutes a day, I would STILL say, you gotta work more)

But I spend most of my time doing things for the Kingdom or in line with His purpose for my life than I do working - but it’s God’s work - I’m still working, but it’s God’s work for which I don’t get “paid,” but then He finds other ways to “pay me” so I can live.

Sometimes I ask God, do you really want me doing this . . . and I sense “just trust me”

Many days, I get 2-4 opportunities to help someone with their faith, with their work, with their life, that I NEVER had before working 40-60 hours a week.

Would I rather work 60 hours a week and change no ones’ lives (except those who come to my faith based calls or take action on my business instruction)

Or rely on God’s economy and several people are impacted each day?

What about you?

Look, I’m not going to say this is magical, and of course as soon as I formularize it, does it change the God part?

I hope not.

So please as I write the steps that God uses in my life to get money to me, and then I can give my money to others, and He can bless my life with peace, and friends, and recreation, and changing lives by sharing my story . . .

Don’t think that this is “God’s will” just because it’s here.

Or that this is God’s economy for YOUR life.

But the way He is paying my bills right now, is through His economy.

And the primary mechanism - and He could change it tomorrow - is through the online model I’ll share next.

You see, very few online models don’t require you to work a lot, and I’m very skeptical of most that are “passive” or “riches in pajamas” -

But this is REAL work and at first you work more, over time, the system grows and income grows (in conjunction with God blessing you)

Here’s the online model that allows you to only work a few hours a week.

BUT you have to release the old models in your mind, especially as it pertains to running an information business.

Because it IS an information business, and if you then do it the old way, it invalidates what I am going to say.

Imagine you had a business that does this:

Creates one new training each week.

Write 5 articles a week just like this (I’m sitting in a cafe and it’s taking me about 20 minutes to write this. I LOVE writing these kinds of articles because this is FUN for me), plus I am believing that at least ONE person’s like will be changed today, and if that happens . . . wow! Purpose fulfilled, yeah?

Be friendly on the web and invite people to your list.

Give them opportunities to buy from you each week.

Then next week, rinse and repeat:

Create a new training.

Write 5 articles.

Invite subscribers . . .

They buy . . .

Most people build their lives around their businesses.

I chose to build my business around my life.

For years, my priorities have been simple: God, family, recreation, health, friendships, and personal growth. The business exists to support those things—not replace them.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t gone through difficult seasons. Like everyone else, I’ve experienced emotional lows, setbacks, uncertainty, and periods when I wasn’t operating at full capacity.

Not because I was working harder.

How to Build a Movement in 90 Days (Without Starting a Business)

Many people who feel called to something meaningful immediately assume they need to start a business.

They think they need a product, a funnel, a course, a website, a logo, a marketing strategy, and a dozen other things before they can begin making a difference.

But when I look at the people who have had the greatest impact on my life, many of them didn’t start with a business at all.

They started with a burden. They saw a problem that shouldn’t exist, a truth that wasn’t being communicated, or a group of people who needed help. Over time, that burden became a framework.

The framework became a body of work. The body of work attracted people who cared about the same things.

And eventually, what began as one person’s conviction became the foundation of a movement.

Lately, I’ve been wondering whether this process can be made far more intentional—and whether ninety days of focused effort might be enough to turn a calling into something other people can see, understand, join, and help carry forward.

How would it feel to grow a movement like this:

Day 1: You Have a Burden

You arrive with something you cannot stop thinking about.

A conviction.

A frustration.

A problem you believe should not exist.

Not a business idea.

Not a product.

Not a funnel.

A burden.

Something you believe needs to change.

Maybe it affects marriages.

Maybe fathers.

Maybe churches.

Maybe loneliness.

Maybe discipleship.

Maybe education.

Maybe health.

Maybe an entirely overlooked problem nobody else is talking about.

The specific topic doesn’t matter.

What matters is that the burden is real.

What matters is that you care deeply enough to spend ninety days building something around it.

At this stage, you don’t have a framework.

You don’t have an audience.

You don’t have a movement.

You simply have a conviction that something should be different.

By Day 30: Your Burden Has Become a Framework

This is where most people stop.

They have opinions.

They have passion.

They have ideas.

But they never create a framework.

A framework is what allows an idea to spread.

During the first month, you would:

Define the problem clearly.
Define the transformation you want to create.
Identify the root causes.
Create language around the issue.
Name concepts.
Build models.
Develop principles.
Test ideas publicly.
Refine them repeatedly.

At the end of thirty days you no longer have:

“I care about this issue.”

You have:

“This is how I explain this issue.”

You now possess a framework.

A way for others to understand the problem.

A way for others to explain it.

A way for others to join the conversation.

By Day 60: Your Framework Has Become a Body of Work

Now the idea begins taking shape in public.

The framework becomes:

Articles.
Videos.
Stories.
Interviews.
Visual models.
Essays.
Discussions.
Teaching.

You begin showing up every day.

Not randomly.

Not chasing trends.

Not trying to go viral.

Simply building.

Publishing.

Refining.

Sharing.

Listening.

At this stage you possess something most people never create:

A coherent body of work.

People can now see what you stand for.

What you believe.

What problem you are trying to solve.

What future you are inviting people toward.

The idea is no longer trapped inside your head.

It has become visible.

By Day 90: Your Body of Work Has Become a Movement Seed

Not a movement.

The seed of one.

This distinction matters.

Movements take years.

But movement seeds can be planted in ninety days.

By now you have:

A clear mission.
A defined audience.
A framework.
A methodology.
A language.
A message.
A library of content.
A growing audience.
A growing circle of supporters.
Early advocates who understand the vision.

Most importantly:

You have momentum.

The burden that once existed only in your heart now exists in the world.

Other people can see it.
