He has a professional career, chosen with Sir’s direction. He owns his own apartment, approved by Sir before he signed. He manages his finances with the framework Sir gave him. At every milestone, every significant decision, every fork in the road that his life has presented, he has deferred to Sir. Not from dependency. From the accumulated trust of a boy who has followed Sir’s direction long enough to see, clearly and without question, that the direction is sound.

He looks at his peers now and sees the distance. Not with arrogance. With the quiet knowledge of a boy who has been guided properly and understands what that guidance has produced. The friends who made their own choices, who followed the current of whatever felt right or easiest, who are still, at twenty seven, finding their way. And the boy who deferred to Sir at every turn and arrived, at twenty seven, already built.

That is the journey. Nine years from a scared eighteen year old in a chat room to a man who owns his home and his career and his life, and who still, at every significant moment, turns to Sir.

The deference is not weakness. It is not the absence of his own judgment. What he defers to Sir is not his capability. It is the final word. The approval of a Sir whose view of the longer arc has never once been wrong.

Progress in this dynamic is not always visible in the dramatic moments. The journey is what happens between them. The daily deference. The milestone decisions. The years of following a direction that has never once been given without genuine care for where it leads.

The shy scared boy I met at eighteen could not have imagined this version of himself. He could not see, from where he was standing, what nine years of ownership and direction and consistent standards would produce.

He decided to trust Sir anyway. And the life he is living at twenty seven is the answer to that decision.

The deeper piece this week goes further into that. What the journey actually looked like, milestone by milestone, and what it means to be the Sir who is present at every one. The door is open.

Serve, submit, give your gift

Sir David's Substack is a reader-supported publication. That is worth saying clearly because the story of devotion that begins with willing compliance is not the most honest one. Boys who immediately embrace ritual have not yet discovered what it gives them. The boy who resists, who finds the requirement inconvenient or unnecessary, and who submits to it anyway because Sir has made clear it is not optional, that boy discovers something the willing one does not. He discovers what the ritual is actually for.

I require daily presentation. Morning and evening without exception. The day begins in devotion and ends in devotion. At both moments the boy recites his mantra out loud. Not silently. Not in his head. Out loud, into the room, with his voice and his breath and his body involved in the act of saying it. A prayer of devotion to Sir. Sir as leader. Sir as guide. Sir as owner. And the understanding, spoken daily until it becomes the most settled truth the boy carries, that surrender to Sir is not the loss of power but the claiming of it.

Sir David's Substack is a reader-supported publication. That is the honest version. Not surrender. Compliance. What happened next was not the result of a boy who believed in what he was doing. It was the result of a boy who did it anyway, daily, because Sir required it, and discovered through the doing what no amount of explanation could have given him in advance.

It became sacred. Slowly, over weeks, the morning presentation stopped being an obligation and became an orientation. The boy who had rolled his eyes at the requirement found himself, without quite noticing when it changed, needing it. The two minutes of stillness, the breath, the voice saying the words into the quiet of the morning, became the thing that made the rest of the day possible.

And in the evening the same. Whatever the world had asked of him, whatever performance or pressure or difficulty he had moved through, the evening presentation returned him to himself. To his position. To Sir. The day ended not in the noise of everything that had accumulated but in the quiet certainty of a boy who knows what he is and who he belongs to.

Whether we were together or apart made no difference. The ritual does not require Sir’s physical presence. Sir is present in the structure. In the requirement. In the fact that the boy is saying the words into the silence because Sir asked him to. The devotion crosses distance. It holds.

This is what daily ritual gives that the dramatic moments cannot. The peaks change a boy. The daily practice makes the change permanent.

The deeper piece this week goes further into that. What the ritual actually contains, and what it means to carry Sir’s presence into every room.
