She’s introducing legislation that will codify how federal agencies can leverage existing laws when AI—and not a human—breaks them.

That’s been a sticking point for many law enforcement officials mainly because AI isn’t a person, but increasingly could make decisions like one, and those decisions could have serious consequences for many of us. One such example: if an algorithm for a rental screening company downgraded a qualified applicant from majority-Black or Hispanic zip codes, that may be in violation of the Fair Housing Act. (Jacobs’ bill would allow HUD to require landlords to test screening tools for discriminatory patterns before using them.)

While that’s just one use case, her bill also addresses how to protect Americans when an Al agent or platform discriminates against people in housing, health care, employment, criminal justice, and so on.

Jacobs is also introducing consumer privacy protections like finally closing the data broker loophole as the House takes up FISA reauthorization next week.

Why are we excited about this? Because Paxton, who has been impeached by the Republican Super Majority in the Texas state legislature for embezzlement, busted for an extramarital affair and is generally hated by Cornyn voters and his fellow Texas Republicans, this creates an excellent opportunity for State Rep. James Talarico (D-TX) to finally flip Texas Blue. The last time Texas Democrats came close to flipping this seat was in 2018 when U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) narrowly defeated Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) by 2.6%.

On this episode, we'll make the case for why someone like Paxton is worse than Cruz. Talarico's ability to communicate effectively with religious Christian voters, coupled with Hispanic and Latino voters turning on Trump in large numbers, makes this a must watch race that could help the Democrats win the U.S. Senate this year.

We'll also discuss why conviction is the best weapon for Democrats to counter Republican messaging when pitching massive changes like universal health care. This month, the Tennessee legislature once again ripped voting rights away from Black districts, part of the overhaul of state maps in light of the SCOTUS gutting what was left of the Voting Rights Act. During the vote, he and his brother were detained by state troopers.

Once again, Pearson’s image became synonymous with resistance overnight.

No stranger to fighting, Pearson had already declared a House candidacy for a majority-Black Memphis district. He’s still running to represent the completely redrawn district, determined to retain power for Memphis constituents who are now in danger of being completely overtaken by GOP rule.

As protests (rightly!) roiled the South this weekend, it was the perfect time to sit down with him to have a wide ranging discussion about how we can create and forge a new era for civil rights.

As a reminder, Secretary of Defense (never calling it the Department of War) Hegseth has repeatedly attacked Sen. Kelly for quite literally doing his job. Kelly is again facing a round of—let’s be generous and call them—“investigations” from batshit crazy Hegseth.

This time, Hegseth is all wound up about Kelly’s comments about weapons stockpiles, comments that came directly from—fuck, you can’t make any of this shit up—Hegseth.

Yep.

Kelly is open and candid about how Hegseth’s attacks against him are truly an attack on all veterans, and how courts have been consistently ruling in his (Kelly’s) favor.
