I remember working at one of the leading mobile phone companies in Nigeria. There were just two designers on the team. We'd both come up with different design directions, and most of the time, the version management approved wasn't even our favorite. In fact, it was usually the one we personally liked the least.

That experience taught me something early. As designers, we don't always have the final say. Our job isn't to design what we personally like. Our job is to design what works for the business.

A good design solves a business problem.
If a design isn't helping the business build trust, improve customer experience, communicate its vision, or create value, then it isn't doing its job.

Another thing people don't always realize is that opening your favorite design tools is usually the last stage of the design process. Before that comes research, stakeholder conversations, workshops, strategy, brand positioning, and countless iterations.

One thing I've noticed, especially in our design industry here in Nigeria, is that many designers haven't had the opportunity to work with strategy-led or business-led design. We're often exposed to oga-driven design or "copy-copy" design, seeing another brand do something and wanting to recreate it without understanding the thinking behind it.

Now, let's talk about Kuda.
Personally, I like the rebrand.
Would I like it even more if I had the opportunity to read the strategy document behind it? Yesss. Because that's where the story and context are.

But from what I can see, the new identity communicates confidence, boldness, trust, and a clear direction for where the brand is headed. It feels like they're positioning themselves for their next phase of growth.

So yes, I like the Kuda rebrand.
My advice to every designer is simple: before criticizing someone else's work, remember that you're only seeing the final output, not the strategy, conversations, constraints, or months of thinking behind it.

At the end of the day, if your design isn't solving a business problem or creating value for the business, then no matter how beautiful it looks, it isn't good design.

As we grow older, we become more conscious of time. You either use it or you don’t, but time moves anyway. It never waits.

It’s a new year.
New resolutions.
Big plans.
Fresh motivation.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth. People don’t really change.
You don’t change because the year changed.

You change because of how you spend every minute of your day.
What you do consistently, every single day, is what shapes your year.
If you truly want a productive year, you have to become extremely conscious of time.

Your sense of urgency has to be high.
That urgency looks like this.

The things you’re supposed to do today, whether they’re easy or uncomfortable, you do them anyway.
You don’t negotiate with the work. You just do it.

One thing I’m very intentional about this year is ruthless execution.
People around me know this about me. If I say I’ll do something, I’ll do it, and I’ll do it as soon as I say I will. But this year, I want to go even further.
I want to be ruthless about execution.

Because the real difference between who you are
now and who you want to become is execution.

Timely execution.
You don’t do the work when you feel like it.
You do it when it needs to be done.

So as we open this year in the name of the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit, make a simple commitment to yourself.

Do what you told yourself you would do.
Do it the way it’s supposed to be done.
Whether you feel like it or not.
That’s one of the purest forms of self-respect.

And the more you respect yourself, the more everything
around you begins to respect you, too.

Here’s to a year of urgency, discipline, and ruthless execution.

Some of them are married now, some are single, and some are already living the kind of life many people still desire. But when we talk, I sometimes see how empty they feel. Some of them wish they hadn’t rushed through everything so quickly. They wish they had enjoyed the journey more — the process. Because at this stage of life, many of them feel like they no longer have anything to chase.

I can relate to that. I was recently talking with a friend who, at one point, worked at Meta — a time when I really wanted to join Meta myself. Now, he has just quit his job at Apple. I mean, Apple is a dream job for many people. But when he explained why he left, it hit me deeply.

And it’s not just a few people around me. Even on a global scale, this pattern shows up. I recently read about Vinay Hiremath, the co-founder of Loom. In 2023, he sold his company to Atlassian for nearly $1 billion. You’d think that kind of success would bring peace, clarity, or at least a sense of arrival. But in a blog post he wrote recently, he said something striking:
“I am rich and have no idea what to do with my life.”

He talked about how, after achieving what many dream of, life started to feel like a side quest. He turned down a $60M job offer, traveled, broke up with his long-time girlfriend, nearly died hiking the Himalayas, and moved to Hawaii to study physics — still searching for meaning. That really struck me. Because it shows that even when you “have it all,” it doesn’t necessarily mean you feel whole.

Here’s what I’ve come to realize:

As human beings, we are not designed to satisfy ourselves. Our souls are not made to be fulfilled by things we can see, touch, or achieve. Our souls can only be satisfied by what is eternal. And only Jesus can truly satisfy our souls.

At every phase of life, learn to enjoy it. Whatever stage of your career or personal journey you’re in, slow down enough to truly experience it. That doesn’t mean being lazy — work hard, love people, love Jesus. But also make that phone call to someone who matters, spend time with your parents, go out with your friends, visit that restaurant, read that book, take that vacation.

Enjoy this phase of life.

The more you do these things, the more you’ll feel alive and fulfilled. Sometimes, what we call delay is not delay at all — it could be God protecting us from what’s ahead or preparing us for something greater.

So in your current season, while you’re trusting God, give yourself the freedom to enjoy life. Stay grounded. And keep doing the things that help you live fully.

The best way to shape a generation is by shaping how they think—how they see themselves, form opinions, and define values.

Books. Media. Podcasts. Film. These are the tools. And right now, they’re being used—heavily.

But here’s the problem: The people doing most of the shaping today are often speaking from places of pain, brokenness, or selfish ambition. And when you create from that place, you make others see the world through your wounds.

I’ve always said: When wisdom keeps quiet, foolishness becomes the order of the day. Eventually, foolishness becomes the new wisdom. And by the time real wisdom speaks, we’ve rejected it—because we’ve grown used to the counterfeit.

So here’s the call: If you carry truth, if you hold the right values—start writing. Start creating. Start shaping narratives.

We can’t all be right. There must be a standard.

For me, that standard is the Bible. It gives a tested framework—on love, on human dignity, on how to live and treat others. It’s not theory—it’s proven.

But in today’s world, many prefer to “go solo.” And that’s one of the most dangerous things we’re normalizing—individualism.

We weren’t made to do life alone. We thrive in community. We need each other.

So if you carry light, don’t stay silent. The generation is listening. The only question is: who are they listening to?

The truth is, a lot of young men today don’t have healthy male role models to look up to. So instead, they’re learning how to “be a man” from social media, podcasts, and opinions that are sometimes shaped by pain or broken experiences — and many times, not even from men. This is part of why we’re starting to see more men who feel lost, unsure, overly feminized, and lacking basic direction.

And don’t get me wrong — women being empowered is important. But the focus has become so one-sided that many men are now sidelined, with no one pouring into them, mentoring them, or even calling them higher. So what happens? These same men become the ones women eventually marry, raise children with, and shape the next generation alongside, and the cycle continues.

So here’s my honest call to action:
If you’re a man with sense… a man who has values, who’s grounded, who knows what it means to be both strong and gentle — please start speaking up. We need you.

Create content. Start a community. Mentor young guys. Let’s raise godly, emotionally healthy, and purpose-driven men again.
Because if we don’t… We’ll all feel the impact.

Chivalry isn’t dead. It’s just been hiding. Let’s bring it back.

Now, here’s the real question—Are you living a life you’d be proud to see your kids imitate?

Have you ever noticed that some of the struggles you’re dealing with feel familiar? Almost like you’ve seen them before? That’s because, in many cases, the things our parents didn’t deal with end up becoming the very things we struggle with today. It’s not always intentional, but certain patterns—whether good or bad—have a way of repeating themselves across generations.

Of course, not everything is inherited. Some struggles come from our own personal choices, the habits we’ve built (or failed to build), and the decisions we make daily. But here’s the good news—you’re not stuck. You don’t have to repeat the same cycles.

Breaking these patterns takes two things: God’s help and your discipline. Prayer is powerful, but so is action. If you want your children to grow up with strong values, it starts with you. If you want them to be prayerful, start building your own prayer life now. If you want them to be patient, kind, and hardworking, you’ve got to embody those traits first.

It’s not easy, but the more you practice these things, the more they become second nature—not just for you, but for the generations that come after you. The cycles can change with you.

Most of us already know what we need to do to improve our lives—whether it’s getting better at our craft, making smarter career moves, or becoming more disciplined. The problem isn’t knowledge; it’s action. And action is hard because it demands sacrifice, discomfort, and consistency.

Why Doing the Hard Things Matters

Progress doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you deliberately choose to do what’s uncomfortable.

• If you want to be a better designer, you have to stop waiting for the “right time” and start creating—even when you don’t feel like it.

• If you want to transition into product management, you have to take on extra projects, study, and build case studies to prove your skills.

• If you want to grow your career, you have to network, put yourself out there, and apply for opportunities even when rejection is a possibility.

• If you want to get fit, you have to find an exercise routine that works for you and actually stick with it.

A Personal Example

A while back, I wanted to improve my leadership skills. I had read books, watched videos, and even attended a few workshops, but nothing really changed until I started leading.

I began taking on more responsibility, mentoring others, and stepping up in situations that made me uncomfortable. It wasn’t easy at first, but the more I did it, the more natural it became. Eventually, it wasn’t just about improving my skills—it became a part of who I am.

It was the same with fitness. I signed up for a gym, but after three weeks, my motivation faded. The problem? I didn’t have a system in place to stay consistent. So I switched to cycling—something that fit my routine better. I started cycling four times a week, joined cycling communities, and followed people who made fitness a lifestyle. The more I did it, the less it felt like a struggle.

The Hard Things Don’t Get Easier—You Get Stronger

Most people think discipline is about forcing yourself to do difficult things forever. But the truth is, the more you do them, the easier they become—not because the task itself gets easier, but because you get stronger.

The key is to build a system that makes consistency second nature. When you make progress enjoyable, staying committed stops feeling like a chore.

Make 2025 Different

2025 won’t magically be different just because you want it to be. You have to make it different. That starts with doing the hard things today. Find what works for you, commit, and stay consistent.

If you’re feeling pressured as a tech worker — whether it’s about applying for a global visa because things aren’t working out in Nigeria, struggling to land the job you want, or feeling left behind while most of your friends are abroad — yet deep down, you don’t even feel led to leave, read this.

Recently, I had a conversation with a friend — an engineering manager at a major tech firm in Nigeria. With over 10 years of experience, a four-year stint as a fintech CTO, and a strong career profile, he could easily relocate if he wanted to. Meanwhile, I’ve also been in tech for a decade. I meet all the requirements for a global talent visa — I’ve spoken at events, built products, and even written recommendations for four people who are now in the UK with it.

During our chat, he asked me, “Do you ever see yourself leaving Nigeria to do tech?”

My response was simple: I’m more concerned about where God wants me to be than where I want to be.

As you grow, impact starts to matter more. I get it — better exposure, more money, bigger opportunities, and more comfort. But is that really the goal? Success means different things to different people. The sooner you define success for yourself, the clearer your decisions become.

For my friend, one of the main reasons he hasn’t left is that his company pays him well in naira. But beyond that, he sees his ideas come to life, his voice is heard, and his work creates visible impact. To him, that’s more fulfilling than simply earning in a stronger currency.

After leading for a few years, I’ve realized that people stay where they feel their impact is real. If you’re under pressure, step back and define success on your own terms. When you do, your decisions will align with your personal vision — not societal expectations.

There’s nothing wrong with relocating or chasing bigger opportunities. Who doesn’t want to make more money? But do it because you truly want to, not because of pressure.

Move at your own pace.

This is where my head is at right now. It might change, it might not. But for now, this is my perspective.

Just slow down. You’re doing just fine. It might be a harsh truth, but slow progress is often better than a sudden rise. What does slow progress teach you? It teaches depth and character. It helps you value your work and your money.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t aim high, but it’s important to recognize that not all of us will have a big break in our careers. Not every one will work for big tech companies. Many of us might spend our entire careers with smaller companies or startups, and that’s okay.

Personally, I haven’t had any big breaks in my career. The closest I came was when I got a job at Meta, but I was affected by the layoffs. Since then, I’ve been working on other things. This experience taught me to value where I am and do what I can to position myself for future opportunities. The growth we’re often seeking is tied to personal branding — the personal brand we may be avoiding building. People buy stories, and people tell stories.

The key is to embrace slow growth and understand that at every point in your career, contentment is key. Contentment is crucial to building a meaningful life and the life you want. Because trust me, when you start earning $5,000 per month, you’ll desire to earn $10,000 more. When you start earning higher, the desire for more only grows. That’s life. The chase for things is endless. But the more we position ourselves to be content at every phase, the more meaningful our lives will be.

Design is never really done. As a designer, you’re always iterating, tweaking, and evolving your work. But one of the trickiest parts of the process is dealing with stakeholders — especially those who aren’t design-inclined, tech-inclined, or even product-inclined. Suddenly, everyone has an opinion on what your design should look like. Everyone seems to know what the user wants, without ever actually talking to the user.

It’s a strange dynamic, and one I find both funny and interesting. Even with my years of experience, I’ve come to accept that stakeholders want what they want. And sometimes, the best way to avoid unnecessary stress is to simply do what you want to. After all, even at companies that claim to value creativity, stakeholders still have their own desires. I get it — as a stakeholder myself, I can’t entirely blame them. They see things from a different perspective, and they’re thinking in ways you might not be.

The key is flexibility. What does that look like? It’s about aligning the stakeholder’s vision — what they see in the market or what they think the competition is doing — with the insights of the person they’ve hired, who is basing their decisions on what the users have communicated. It’s about balancing the business’s wants with the user’s needs to create something that works. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

In Nigeria, much of the design work we do tends to be guess/oga-centered, which can stifle the culture of designing for users. So, what should you do when you find yourself in these situations?

1. Make peace with the fact that design is never truly done. There will always be iterations and changes — sometimes more than you’d like.

2. Accept that you won’t always get what you want. In the Nigerian context, the stakeholder’s voice often speaks louder than yours or even the user’s voice. It’s a hard truth, but one worth acknowledging.

3. Remember that users are still primary. Try to find a balance between the business goals and user needs — if the company allows you to exercise that balance.

Navigating these waters isn’t easy, but with the right mindset, you can maintain your sanity and still produce great work.

Therefore, it’s essential to consistently demonstrate the value of your contributions. By doing so, you’ll find your career trajectory ascending as your efforts become increasingly noticed and valued.

One way I've been keeping productive lately, especially with many different tasks as a designer and entrepreneur, is using time blocking. Here’s how it can help you manage your day effectively, no matter how busy you are.

What is Time Blocking?

Time blocking means setting aside specific times for different jobs throughout your day. It helps make sure you give each task enough attention without getting overwhelmed.

Why Use Time Blocking?

As a designer and entrepreneur, my days are full of different things like managing teams, checking on projects, meeting clients, and doing design work. Without a plan like time blocking, it's easy to feel like you're all over the place.

How Does It Work?

1. List Your Tasks: Write down everything you need to do each day. This might include managing teams, following up on projects, meeting with clients, and doing design work.

2. Assign Time Slots: Decide on specific times for each task. For example, you could decide to manage teams from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, check on projects from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and so on.

3. Stick to Your Schedule: Try your best to stay focused during each time block. Avoid distractions and concentrate on the task you've set for that time.

4. Use Tools Like ClickUp: To make things easier, use tools like ClickUp to manage your tasks. ClickUp helps you create tasks, set deadlines, work with your team, and see how things are going—all in one place.

Benefits of Time Blocking:

• Stay Focused: By giving each task its own time slot, you can concentrate better and get things done without feeling scattered.
