Apparently Isabelline is a kind of bird. It inspired me to write about serenity and my take on it.

It managed to make it into volume thirteen of my university’s poetry anthology titled Through the Looking Glass along with its sibling poem “Reverie” which I’ll post next.

As a brown boy I thought I’d be able to write a nice piece on race equality so I gave it a shot and it turned out to be quite a nice poem if I do say so myself!

Look upon these stolen lands,

prised, displayed, taken artefacts.

Vividly coloured African wrist bands.

Two bouncy balls with golden jacks.

Even though I’m a young man, at the time I thought I might as well write a poem about appreciating women for the competition because I can’t say ‘no’ to a poetry competition, I’ll do it regardless of what it’s about

How dare you be so shamefully shallow,

all women are to you are pretty pink mallows.

You fail to look beyond their gender,

reduce their worth to a fine line that is slim and slender.
