Jordan & Emmett in Chicago

EMMETT’s Point of View

Christmas came and went, and it was the 28th of December. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how to feel, knowing my ex, Alex, was in love with Jordan’s ex. Jordan and I had been together almost three months, and things had been great.

But when I thought I was completely over Alex, that was thrown at me. Now, there I was, sitting in my seat on the plane, about to head to Chicago to go meet Jordan. We were set to stay downtown in a hotel together until the holiday break was over and the dorms opened up.

While texting Jordan, I asked if he’d be okay with me knowing what Avi looked like. Basically, if he was okay with Alex sending me a picture, since Alex had a couple of him. I told him I was just curious, especially after we had all talked on the phone for an hour while he was at the mall with Avi. What I said was… It’s really nothing, just curious

About four minutes after I texted Alex, I received a text from an unknown number. When I clicked on it, I literally froze in my seat. It was from Avi! But then, I thought of Jordan, and a smile formed on my face. Jordan, at least in my opinion, was one of the most beautiful boys on the planet. His striking features were on par with Avi and vice versa.

I immediately texted Jordan and let him know Avi texted me. I also got the go-ahead to send a few pics back, which I did. Once Avi got my pics, he hearted them all with the emoji heart and text back… Alex wasn’t lying when he said u were adorable. I’m happy we got to connect.

And all I could think was… Wait, what??

By that time, the plane was getting ready to take off, and I had to put my phone in Airplane Mode. That was nice, since I closed my eyes the entire flight.

When the plane touched ground, I looked at the time on my phone. Jordan should already have been at the airport. He was at the hotel earlier and told me he’d meet me once my plane landed. After a good stroll through the airport, I saw my boy at Baggage Claim!

To say I was excited to spend a good week in a hotel with him is an understatement. It was like a taste of real adulthood. From high school to college, and meeting a partner, and doing things completely outside of school. From the airport, we took a train to downtown, then walked the rest of the way to our hotel in the freezing cold.

On our walk to the hotel, I pulled up some old pics of me and Alex. I honestly don’t know why I never deleted those pics, but whatever. Jordan didn’t seem to be mad. I showed him a few headshots of Alex and some with him behind the drums.

Right off the bat, I noticed Jordan was completely taken, almost the way I was when I saw Avi. His exact words were, “He’s a really cute boy.”

I couldn’t help but laugh also. “Yeah, it’s one of the more bizarre things in my life.” I then stopped him. Right there on the sidewalk in the middle of downtown Chicago, I kissed him. “I love you. You’re always gonna be my boy too. Just so you know.”

Once we were at the hotel, we both took a long, hot shower together, since it was the dead of winter in Chicago. Walking in the cold really did us in, and the heat felt downright amazing. Plus, being with Jordan just made everything special.

Jordan’s eyes grew wide. “How could you forget to tell me something like that?!”

“I don’t know.” I shrugged, and a grin spread across my face. “Like I said, I was distracted by those two. I was actually getting ready to call you and tell you about it, but right before I could, I got that text from Alex. The one where he sent me your pic and asked if you were my boyfriend.”

Jordan interrupted, but in a nice way. “Not your boyfriend. Your partner.” He leaned over the table and kissed me. “But anyway, keep going.”

“So yeah, I got distracted. You were sitting with your ex. And Alex texted me your picture, and I was like, wtf??” I started laughing. “But it all worked out. As for mom and dad, mom said she suspected something, cause Alex was always coming over. And of course, I told them Alex was my first boyfriend.”

“How did they react?” Jordan asked.

“I know.” I shook my head. “This whole thing is just bonkers.”

After we settled our bill at the restaurant, we decided to have an early night. We both had our laptops, and between us, we had every streaming service you could possibly think of. For the rest of the night, we cuddled up to each other and watched movie after movie, until we were both falling asleep.

There was a point when my head must’ve slumped, and I was out cold. I was dreaming, and I had that same, exact dream I had when I was in bed with Alex.

You know the one, right? When I spent the night with Alex at his parents’ house in Missouri, we were watching anime, and I fell asleep and started dreaming. In my dream, we were both lying in bed watching anime, just like we were in real life. Except, in my dream, it was our own house, no parents, and we were living together.

He just smiled warmly at me. He then clicked the movie off. “We should get to bed. You’re already falling asleep. You had a long day with your flight and walking in the cold.”

“I love you.” I kissed him a few times and snuggled up to him.

With all the weird shit happening, there was one thing I was sure of. I was definitely in love with him.

CHAPTER 13

Avi and Jordan

JORDAN’s Point of View

It was the 23^rd of December, and school was closing for the holiday break. I can’t even say how bummed out I was. I’d gotten so used to being around Emmett, but since the dorms were closing for the holidays, we had to go our separate ways.

He already caught a flight from Chicago to St. Louis, and his parents were picking him up at the airport. As for me, my flight to Seattle was a few hours later than him. And at 7pm at night, I was still at the airport, sitting in a chair, waiting to catch my flight.

Of course, while I waited, I texted that little cutie as much as I could. In some way, I was excited to head back to Seattle, since I’d been at DePaul for four months. But I was more excited to come back to Chicago, since me ‘n Emmett were booked in a downtown hotel. It kinda cost a lot of money, but it’s all good. I had plenty to boot, and this was the first time I really spent for anything substantial.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, it was time to board the plane! Once I was on the plane, it wasn’t anything special. Just a normal ride. It didn’t take too long to get to Seattle, and once there, I just caught a train from the airport to the heart of Seattle. Of course, I know public transportation there like the back of my hand.

Okay… I ALSO know this is all boring, but really, stay with me. It DOES get interesting. A LOT more interesting.

My first night back in Washington, I didn’t do anything special. Just hung out with family. You know, parents, brothers and sisters, and the furry creatures running around and barking. That was good, seeing them all.

The next day, though, I wanted to check out my favorite shops. Besides music, I’m kinda a big nerd when it comes to anime and gaming. And my favorite spots for this are mostly at the Tacoma Mall. Also, since it was the holidays and Christmas time and all, the mall was definitely open.

We were gonna have a big family meal in the late afternoon, and to make sure I got home in time, dad let me borrow his truck. Of course, I had to be the one to initiate that one. “Hey dad, uh, I really wanna check out some shops at the Tacoma mall. Can I borrow your truck, so I won’t be late getting back for dinner?”

After eyeing me for a few seconds with zero expression on his face, he finally gave one nod of his head. “Go ahead. Just make sure you bring it back the same way it was when you got it.”

“I will! Thanks, dad!” I took his keys, and he just gave me that look. You know the one. But whatever. At least I didn’t have to waste my time hopping around public transportation.

That morning, I got to the mall at 10am, right when they opened. After stopping for some coffee and a treat at this bakery, I walked around and stopped at one of my shops. I must’ve spent a good half hour in that shop, looking at stuffed animals, cards, games, shirts, wallets, and everything else. Needless to say, I bought one cute animal for my boy, Emmett.

Satisfied with what I bought, I was ridin’ high and happy, knowing how pleased Emmett would be when he’d see the cute stuffed animal I got. It’s like bonus points, cause he’s very simple and very easy to please. And I mean that in the best way possible. That’s why I adore him so much.

Anyway, satisfied with that purchase, I strolled out of that shop, happy as could be. That is, until I saw him, and he was alone.

Let me explain… he’s not a bad person or anything. I actually… well, I loved him. Dang. I never stopped loving him. But things have changed, and we’re not together anymore. Like Emmett’s boyfriend, from what he told me, they went separate ways when they went to different colleges.

And that’s what happened to us. Except, we broke up about six months before college started. When that happened, we went no contact, cause it was too much to process. Too much to handle.

The moment I saw him, he saw me too. “Jordan?”

“A… hi, Avi. It’s been a while.” I wasn’t sure what else to say. And I didn’t realize how much feeling I still had for him.

“It HAS been a while.” He walked closer, until he was in front of me. And then… he just hugged me.

The moment he touched me, tears began to flow. I thought I was completely over him. I mean, I honestly DO love Emmett. But I guess some things just don’t go away so easily.

“You’re home for Christmas break?” Avi asked. His arms were still around me.

“I am. And you must be too.” Tears were still running down my cheeks.

Seeing me like this, he did what he always did. He wiped the tears away with his hand. Realizing he was still holding me, he slowly pulled away. “Come on. Have you eaten anything?”

I nodded up and down. Then from side to side. “Well, I had a pastry a little bit ago, but I could eat something.”

“Yeah. I’d like that.” He tugged on my arm. “You wanna sit at the food court with me?”

I didn’t say anything. I just half-smiled and shook my head, and he led the way. Once we were there, we both ordered something from the same place and took a seat at a table away from others.

For a half a minute, we were both silent, just munching away at our food. Finally, Avi spoke up. “You look good. You always do.”

I admit, I couldn’t help but smile. “You too. You never stopped looking cute.” I paused, then went ahead and asked. “Are you seeing anyone now?”

The look on his face. It was both happy and sad at the same time. “I am. I met him at school.”

“You went to University of San Francisco, right?” I asked. “I know you were accepted, but we just… we just stopped talking.”

“I did.” This time, Avi had tears running down his cheeks. “And what about you? Are you seeing anyone now?”

“I am.” I’m almost betting I too looked both happy and sad at the same time. I loved Emmett. At the same time, seeing Avi in the flesh made my heart expand in all directions, just like it used to. “We’ve been together since about middle of the semester. He’s a musician also. Plays the saxophone like there’s no tomorrow. And he’s a real cutie. What about your boy?”

Avi was thoughtful. “My guy is beautiful. He treats me kindly.” Realizing what he just said, he quickly added, “Not that you didn’t. You were always the kindest person to me. And the sweetest.”

“It’s okay.” I touched his hand lightly, before withdrawing it quickly.

“He’s also a musician, a drummer,” Avi continued. “As a freshman, he’s been gigging out all over San Francisco. We actually met at an open mic a couple months ago or so. His name is Alex.”

“That’s really great.” I was genuinely happy for him. “I’m happy for…” Avi was waiting for me to finish my thought, but it never came.

Looking at me strangely, he asked, “What were you saying?”

“I ummm… did you say your boy’s name is Alex, and he plays drums?”

“Yeeeaaah… why? What’s the matter?” Avi looked at me strangely.

“Oh, ummm… it’s probably nothing.” I felt stupid for even thinking this. “It’s just that…”

“Go on, Jordie. You know you can say anything to me.” Avi had this pleading look in his eyes that always made me give in. And he called me Jordie, like he used to.

“I… well, my partner, Emmett, he told me stories of his ex. They got along, and he shared stuff from his past, because I asked. His ex’s… ummm… his ex’s name is Alex, and he plays the drums and goes to University of San Francisco. At least, I’m about 90% sure on all that.”

The more I talked, the more Avi’s jaw seemed to drop. “Wait, noooo. Your partner’s name is Emmett?!”

“Yesssss.” I waited in anticipation for him to, I don’t know, add something to that.

Avi was still processing everything, and it took him more than a few seconds to answer me. “I’m pretty sure Alex told me his ex’s name was Emmett. I know for sure that his ex plays the sax.” He pulled out his phone. “Hold on a sec.”

I watched him click on a button. When the person on the other end answered, he said, “Hey sweets, how are you?” He paused while listening. “I’m good. I miss you too, a lot… Uh huh… Ummm, well, I’m calling, cause I wanted to ask you something. And before I do, I want to be completely honest with you.

“I’m at the Tacoma Mall, and I ran into my ex. Nothing’s going on. We’re just sitting down talking in the middle of the mall.” Alex must have been talking, because Avi was silent for a short bit, and he was just kind of nodding his head.

I saw a smile form on his face, and he said, “You’re so sweet. I love you.” And then, he continued his story. “Well, so my ex… his name is Jordan. Ummm, what’s your ex’s name, and what college is he at?” After a few seconds, Avi’s eyes bugged out. “Wait, noooo… His name is Emmett, AND he’s enrolled in the music department at DePaul?!”

Again, Avi was silent, just listening to Alex talk. Finally, he said, “Because, I think my ex is the boyfriend of your ex.” He was nodding his head up and down. “Okay, I’ll ask him.”

Avi turned his attention to me. “Alex wants me to put him on speaker.”

“That’s fine.” Once I agreed, Avi pushed the speaker button.

“Hi, Jordan. I’m Alex. Avi was telling me your boyfriend’s name is Emmett from DePaul?”

“That’s correct,” I answered.

“Is he a freshman, and is he a bleach-blonde Asian, around 5’8”?” Alex asked.

“Oh my god. Yes, he is.” I was beyond weirded out.

“Is it okay if you send me a picture of you? You can send it to Avi, and he can send it to me. Or you can just have my number. I wanna send your pic to my Emmett and see if he knows you.”

“That’s fine.” I shrugged, even though he couldn’t see me. “I don’t mind sending it to you.” After Alex gave me his number, I sent him two pics of me, so he could send them to his Emmett.

Once Alex got my pics, he said, “Okay, hold on. I’m gonna send these to Emmett and see what he says.” He paused for a second and added, “Your pics are cute. FYI. Okay, I just sent them to him, and I asked if you’re his boyfriend.

“Ohhhh… and he just responded with a huge ‘what the fuck’. Ummm… followed by, ‘yes, that’s Jordan, but how do you know him’… and he’s freaking out.” Alex laughed. He had a cute voice, and his laughter made me smile.

Alex continued. “I told him that my boy, Avi, is Jordan’s ex, and they ran into each other at the mall in Washington and started talking. Oh, and Emmett said he wants to call you right now, Jordan.”

Right away, I told Alex, “Yeah, of course. Tell him to call me.” A few seconds later, my phone was ringing.

“Hey, babe. I’m gonna put you on speaker. I love you.” I hit the speaker button. “Okay, you can say whatever you want. Alex is on speaker with Avi.”

Loud and clear, Emmett’s voice rang out, “Alex, can you hear me?”

“Hey swee… uh, hey Emmett,” Alex answered. “I can hear you.”

For a moment, everyone was silent. That silence seemed to last for an eternity. Finally, Avi broke that silence. “Hi, Emmett. This is Avi, Alex’s ummm, new boyfriend. I just wanted to say hi. From what Jordan has told me, you guys are a beautiful match, and I’m happy for you guys.”

“Thanks.” Clearly, Emmett wasn’t sure what else to say. “I appreciate that.”

After getting over the initial shock of it all, we all four just openly talked. And by some grace, we were able to be civil and joke around. The conversation with all four of us lasted almost a good hour. I didn’t even notice how much time had passed.

I learned a lot about Alex, and it gave me really good insight into Emmett’s past. I’m sure everyone can say the same thing about everyone else.

When we finally ended the conversation and clicked our phones off, Avi and I lingered for another fifteen minutes, just talking. By this time, our walls had broken down again. Being in Avi’s presence made my heart swell, and I didn’t know what to do with those old feelings. Or maybe, those feelings that never left.

And even though I didn’t really wanna leave, I had to. “I do have to get going,” I told Avi. “We have a family dinner coming up soon. I can’t be late for that. My dad will hang me by my balls.”

Avi laughed, and it made me smile to see him like that. When we both stood up, he hugged me again. Our hug lasted a good five minutes, at least. While hugging, we both pulled each other in, and I could feel the pressure from his arms squeezing me.

It was almost like old times. Our hearts were pounding, and our foreheads touched. Our legs were touching, and I could feel the hardness in the front of his pants. I knew he could feel mine too.

Being in his arms, I had to fight my feelings. Both our lips were quivering, and when I stared into his eyes, I fought the urge to kiss him. I couldn’t.

Before pulling away, Avi whispered, “I always loved you. I never stopped loving you. Like Alex and Emmett, it was purely circumstance. We were both heading to different schools in different parts of the country. But I never stopped thinking about you.” Tears were streaming down his face.

“I know, babe.” I squeezed him a little tighter. “I never stopped loving you either, and I never stopped thinking about you. I just moved on, cause that’s all I could do.”

No more words could be said. We just continued to hold each other and rub our foreheads together. When we finally released our hold, Avi gently took hold of my hand and said, “I’ll walk you to your car.”

The entire time, we walked in silence. Holding his hand was exactly like it used to be. It was like lightning shooting through me. That was the energy of Avi. No. It was the energy of both of us.

When we finally made it my dad’s truck, Avi leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. With his big, beautiful eyes staring at me, he told me, “I’m happy I saw you again. We needed this. I don’t know if it’s closure or not. It doesn’t seem like it, cause well, the obvious. And you have my boyfriend’s phone number, which is just really weird. Even though I don’t mind.”

After saying our goodbyes, I watched Avi slowly walk away. I was happy to see him again. And I was sad he was leaving. And for some nagging reason, I didn’t want it to be closure. At the same time, there was absolutely no way I would ever be without Emmett.

At that moment, all I could do was drive home and see what the next moment would bring.

CHAPTER 3: Relying On Each Other

Keagan strolled into the house and found his brother sitting down at the kitchen table. He waved to Callum with just his fingers, since he was holding a laundry basket filled with a few random items he bought for himself. He set the basket on the floor. “I needed this basket to put all my dirty clothes in.”

When he sat down, he noticed Callum’s flushed face and that he was breathing slightly hard. “You okay?” Keagan asked. “What’s the matter?”

“What? Oh, it’s nothing.” Callum fidgeted and squirmed in his seat. “I was just… exercising. Just finished some push-ups right when you walked in. How’d the job hunting go?”

Keagan drew out a long breath. “Man, I finally got hired at the grocery. As a cashier. But I must’ve visited ten places.”

“That’s good!” Callum reached over and patted his brother’s hand. “Proud of you. Just work it til you don’t have to anymore. We’ll get out of this town soon.” For reasons unknown, Callum’s hand lingered on his brother’s hand, and without thinking, he gave it a squeeze.

The moment Callum touched his hand, Keagan felt shivers up and down his spine, as if electricity was running through him. Jumbled thoughts raced through his mind. His touch feels so good. This is bad. Trying his best to compose himself, he asked, “Hey, did you eat already? We should go out and get something.”

“No. Not yet.” Callum, realizing what he was doing, slowly withdrew his hand from Keagan’s. “Yeah, we can go out. It don’t matter what we get. I’ll eat anything.”

“Alright, cool.” Keagan stood up. “I just need to change my shirt.”

Callum’s eyes bugged out, and he stood up, panicking. “I mean, let’s just go now. I’m really hungry.”

“What? It’ll only take a second. After walking around all day, I sweated in this shirt.” He picked up the laundry basket and walked down the hallway to his room, while Callum watched in dread.

After entering his room, Keagan spilled the contents inside the basket onto his bed. He noticed a wet spot on his pillow, but he didn’t think anything of it. He then set the basket on the floor. After taking off his shirt, he threw it in the laundry basket, then stripped off of his socks and tossed those in as well.

After putting on new clothes, he glanced at his shirt, shorts, and underwear on the floor, which he had worn the previous day. He grabbed the shirt and shorts and tossed them in the basket. When he picked up his underwear, it was moist. Creasing his brows, he opened up the wadded underwear and stared at it.

“What the hell is that?” He felt it again, noticing the slimy texture. By then, he had an idea what it was. He lifted up and put it closely his nose so he could smell it. “That’s... that’s cum!”

Nodding his head, Callum pointed the way, and they walked down the street. Once there, they ordered their food and talked about the house. “After we eat,” Callum said, “we should stop by the real estate office. Let’s get an idea on the house.”

Excitement ran through Keagan. “Awesome! And before we know it, we’ll both be out of here.” A huge smile formed on his face.

Once they finished their meal, they sat and relaxed and talked for a few minutes. Callum then stood up. “I need to take a piss. Be right back.”

Sitting at the table by himself, Keagan just scrolled on his phone. While playing around on his phone, he heard the front door of the restaurant open, but he didn’t look up. It was only when he heard, “Bryce, man, look who it is! The town cocksucker himself!”

Keagan froze, and he looked up and saw two guys who graduated high school a year before he did. They walked up to his table and openly mocked him. “You know homos ain’t allowed in here.” Bryce started laughing.

The other guy, Mark, also busted out into a fit of laughter “We should throw his ass outta here.”

Without saying a word, Keagan merely grinned. He picked up an uneaten fry that was on one of the plates. Staring directly into Bryce’s eyes, he slowly put the fry in his mouth and started chewing.

“You really want your face smashed in, don’t you?!” Bryce was about to take a step closer.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Keagan leaned back in his chair.

Bryce hesitated, and Mark cackled. “The little fairy thinks he can stop us!”

Shaking his head from side to side, Keagan smirked. “Not me. Him.” He pointed to somebody behind them.

Before either of them could turn around, they were both forcefully jerked backward by their shirts. As they stumbled back, they tripped over their own feet and fell on top of each other.

When they looked up, Callum Hayes was standing over them. “Bryce. Mark. Good to see you guys again. But if you ever mess with my little brother again, I’ll make sure you both collect disability for the rest of your useless lives.”

Bryce and Mark stood up and backed away. “Hey, man. We’re good, Callum.” They both turned and hurried out of the restaurant.

“You okay?” Callum asked.

“Yeah. Thanks to you.” Keagan stood up. He was visibly shaken. “Let’s get out of here.” Once they were outside, Callum led him around the corner, where they were blocked by huge, tall bushes.

“What’s going on? Why’d we walk back here?” Keagan was confused.

“I just wanna make sure you’re okay.” Callum wrapped his arms around him and held him tightly. “I saw how shaken up you were back there. I don’t like seeing you like that. I’ve always taken care of you, and I always will.”

“Cal...” Keagan was at a loss for words. He just buried his head in Callum’s chest, while tears began to flow.

For a long moment, they stood in place, hidden by the tall bushes. Callum continued to hold and comfort him. And Keagan, while his tears had stopped, was content to rest in his brother’s arms.

Finally, Keagan stirred. For a second, he looked into Callum’s eyes, before slowly looking away. He then leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek, very close to his lips. “Thank you, brother, for looking out for me.” With his lips still lingering on Callum’s cheek, Keagan moved his head slowly and pressed his lips square on the lips on his brother, lingering for a few seconds. “You always look out for me. I owe you so much.”

Shocked at the kiss, Callum stared at his brother, unsure of what to say. A thousand thoughts ran through his mind. That kiss didn’t mean anything. A few seconds later, another thought. Just my lil bro thanking me in his own way.

Pulling him closer into his chest, Callum squeezed him tighter. There was a huge bulge in Callum’s jeans, a reaction to Keagan’s kiss. “Of course. I’m always gonna be here for you. You’re my little brother.”

For nearly half a minute, they both stood frozen in place. Neither knew what else to say, and neither wanted to move. Finally, Callum loosened his grip, but he still kept his arms wrapped around him. “We should head to the real estate office.”

“You’re really ready to get out of here?” Keagan was hopeful. “What about Masie?”

“What about her?” Callum shrugged. “I don’t owe her anything. She’s moving to Florida in a year. She made that clear. So if I move before her, it just means I beat her to the punchline. I don’t need her. Just like you don’t need Daniel. We can both move away together and just be happy, right?”

Keagan stared at him, feeling as if there were words unsaid. He tried to decipher and read between the lines, but his mind was blank. “Yeah. I don’t need Daniel. The Hayes boys don’t take any shit. And yeah, we CAN be happy together.”

Once again, silence ensued, this time for nearly two full minutes. During those two minutes, Callum was slowly rubbing Keagan’s back, allowing his fingers to explore all the crevices.

After what seemed an eternity to them both, Callum whispered, “You’re right. We can be happy together. I’ll always look out for you.”

Hearing those words, Keagan let out a long breath. Turning his head slightly upward, he pressed his lips to his brother’s neck and gently kissed it a few times. He then slowly pulled away and smiled warmly. “Come on, brother. Let’s go sell that house.”

“How much time has passed since you came to L.A.” Asher twisted his lips, almost not wanting to hear the answer from Joshua.

“Well, it’s been over two months. I think I’ve been here with you for about two and a half months now.” Lost in thought, Joshua was looking up and to the side.

A long sigh escaped Asher’s lips. “Which means, your contract to be with me for three months is almost up, and you’ll be heading back to Chicago in two weeks. Just in time for summer to start. Alexis probably has a bunch of projects lined up for you.”

Joshua furrowed his brows when he remembered the contract with Asher. “Ohhh. Yeah, I guess that’s true.” It came out almost as a whisper. “And you’ll be preparing to go on tour again.”

“Yeah. In a few weeks, rehearsals start up with the band. Then the dance crew.” Asher looked away, trying to hide his sadness. “We have a good two months before touring actually begins.”

For a good minute, both were silent, just listening to the waves crash as they sat on a towel at the beach. Finally, Joshua pulled out his phone and sent a text off.

JOSHUA: hey alexis i know my 3 months w asher is ending soon... what do you have planned??

ALEXIS: I was just thinking about that. He’s going on tour soon, isn’t he?

After hanging up, he set his phone down on the blanket and leaned over to kiss Asher. “I’m needed… or well, we’re both needed in two weeks. Right before you leave for your tour. So it’ll be our last time to hang out. And then, I don’t know when I’ll see you next.” There was sadness in Joshua’s voice.

“We’ll figure it all out.” Asher kissed him on the forehead. “For now, let’s just have as much fun as we can. Dinners, movies, late-night gaming, dancing. Anything you wanna do.”

“Make love to you.” Joshua kissed him on the lips. “And then, make love to you again. You know I’m gonna miss you. These past couple of months have been the best times of my life. And it all happened by chance.”

“Mine too.” Asher took a deep breath. “I mean, touring and performing is fun. And meeting new people around the world. But just being with you is on another level completely.”

“I do love you.” Joshua blinked his eyes and looked down. “I don’t know what I’m gonna do when you’re on tour.”

“I know.” Asher was at a loss for words. “So, we’re really gonna be fucking some silver fox guy in his sixties?” Without realizing it, he licked his lips.

“That’s what Alexis has set up for me. For us. He said he’ll be involved in that one too.” He pulled up the picture again from his phone. “He’s pretty sexy. He’s like skinny lean. At the very least, it’s something I can check off my list of random stuff I did in my life.”

They both laughed and continued to joke around. Asher then began preparing their lunch from the basket they brought. Once the food was laid out, they casually began eating while talking and relaxing. It was a countdown to what few days they had left to spend with each other.

TWO WEEKS LATER

Asher and Joshua stepped off the plane and made their way through Chicago O’Hare International Airport. After collecting their bags from Baggage Claim, they caught a cab, which drove them to Dunning Agency on Michigan Avenue. Upon entering the office, they were greeted by a cute, blonde boy attending the front desk.

“Joshua! It’s good to see you again!” Gavin stood up from his seat at the front desk.

Joshua’s eyes widened, as did Asher’s, as they both took in the beautiful boy in front of them. “Hi, Gavin!” A smile formed on Joshua’s face. “How are things in the office?”

“Everything’s good here.” He walked up closer to them and extended his hand to Asher. “I didn’t get to meet you when you were here. I was out of town. I’m sorry I missed you then. I’m Gavin.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” Instead of shaking his hand, Asher held out his arms and gave him a hug, causing Gavin to blush.

“Alexis should be back any time. He just went downstairs to get some coffee.” Just as Gavin said that, the office door opened, and Alexis walked in.

He immediately set his coffee down and gave them both a hug. “It’s really good to see you guys again!”

Joshua took note of his attitude. He had never seen him this animated before. “It’s good to see you too. Ummm, are we meeting the client tonight or tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow,” Alexis answered. “Tonight, you guys can rest or do whatever you want.” He then pointed at Gavin. “Also, we have a last-minute addition to the roster for tomorrow night. “Gavin will be joining us.”

That moment, a surge of heat rushed into Joshua’s loins. He remember the very first day he walked into the office, and he was greeted by Gavin. Back then, his loins were also burning. It seems I finally get to experience him.

“That’s…” Joshua couldn’t help but bite his lip. “He was already hard just thinking about Gavin. He glanced at Asher, who had an almost predatory look on his face. “That’s really great.” He walked up to Gavin and stood inches away from him. Gavin’s lips twitched, and a smile formed. “Me neither.”

Joshua then turned around. “Since the big meeting is tomorrow, we’re gonna head to my place and just rest.”

“That’s a good idea,” Alexis agreed. “Flying can sometimes drain you. Just spend some time together.” He glanced at their bags. “You have two full bags, Asher. Are you leaving straight for your tour from here?”

Asher nodded his head up and down. “Yeah. I’ll be leaving Chicago in two days to fly to New York. That’s where I’m meeting the rest of the musicians, dancers, and crew.”

“That’s exciting,” Alexis answered. “Also, thank you for agreeing to this. This client is just as big, if not, bigger than Royce Alexander in New York. If I can seal this deal, I won’t need any other clients for the next few years, depending on how the contracts look. But anyway, if you guys can be here tomorrow night by 6:00pm, that’d be great.”

“Will do.” Joshua gave him another hug. He then hugged Gavin, making sure to press his hard cock up against him. For a moment, he lingered, and the corners of his lips curled upward a slight bit. “We’ll see you tomorrow.”

After they left the office, they caught another cab to Joshua’s place. Once they entered, he looked around and sighed. “It’s home, but it seems so foreign to me now. After living with you for three months in that mansion, coming back here is just bizarre.”

Joshua and Asher walked into the front room of Dunning Agency. Gavin was already there. “Hey, you two.” Gavin gave them a sly smile. “Alexis just texted me. He’ll be here in fifteen minutes.”

Grabbing Asher’s hand, Joshua led him over to where Gavin was standing. “You know,” Joshua said, “on my very first day here, when I saw you, I could barely contain myself.” He leaned in and pressed his lips against Gavin’s neck. While doing so, Asher did the same on the other side of his neck.

“Off the top of my head… New York, Seattle, Miami, Boston, L.A., Dallas, Vancouver in Canada, Mexico City, Tokyo, Seoul in South Korea, Manila, Bangkok, London. Hmmm, there’s a lot of cities. I just can’t think of them all right now.” He glanced at Gavin and winked. “My mind is kind of in the gutters right now.”

Joshua let out a long breath. “I’d love to visit all those cities someday.”

Alexis just smiled and nodded his head. “Someday you will. I remember when I first toured around the world, just visiting random cities here and there. It’s definitely an eye-opener. You too, Gavin. You’ll have to do that also.”

Just then, there was knock on the office door. “Ah, that must be Morgan. I told the front desk in the lobby to send him up.” He stood up and opened the door.

When he did, the three boys eagerly looked to see his face. Once he was inside, Alexis introduced him. “Morgan, this is Gavin, my assistant. Joshua, my other assistant. And this is Asher Cross, who is a surprise for tonight.”

Morgan Davies’ eyes lit up. “You are THE Asher Cross?!” He took a good look at him. “By gods, you sure are! You are partaking in tonight’s activities?”

A wide grin formed on Asher’s face. “If that is what you wanna call it, then yes. I’m partaking in tonight’s activities. Is that okay with you, Mr. Davies?”

With a quick nod of his head, Morgan answered, “Oh, yes! Of course!”

All at once, Joshua, Asher, and Gavin surrounded him. Joshua, who was standing directly in front of him, brushed his lips against Morgan’s face and whispered, “You’re a very handsome man.”

As he said that, Gavin and Asher both pressed their lips to his neck and began kissing and licking him gently. Breathing hard, Morgan managed to say, “You guys don’t waste any time.”

“What? I didn’t hear a word you just said.” Callum opened the door wider and peered in. When he saw the outline of his brother through the frosty, glass, shower door, he drew in a breath. His thoughts were racing. What the hell’s the matter with me?

“I said I’ll be out soon. I’ve only been in here a few minutes. Gimme a sec.” He shut the water off and swiped his hands up and down his body to get the excess water off. He then opened the glass door and reached for his towel.

A Professing of Love

That, and it was Captain Elden who presented the information to the king. And nobody can correct or question Captain Elden but the king himself.”

Matthias leaned in closer. “Also, the captain told me to tell you he will stop by later to personally thank you.” He paused. “He did not say it, but I believe he misses your company. Both of you.” He looked down at his feet. “I know there are times when I miss your company as well.”

“Matthias...” Cassian placed his hand on his shoulder. “You know you can stop in at any time. Being cooped up in here, we both crave personal attention at times. It is just a given.”

Creasing his brows, Keagan walked into the kitchen, the next room over. While fixing a sandwich, he yelled out, “Yeah, but I still get excited to see you! Old man!”

“Settle down.” Callum walked into the kitchen. “And I’m only two years older than you. Twenty-six ain’t old. Gimme a sec. Ima go finish my shower.” He walked out and down the hall.

Lowering his head, Keagan stared at the floor. “Long story short… me and Daniel broke up. So I figured, why not come back to Illinois for a bit?”

“She has family there. And they’ve been bugging her to come down there. They’re the ones who talked her into it.” He shrugged. “It’s all good. If it makes her happy. I mean, who the hell would wanna live in Princeton, IL?”

Keagan raised an eyebrow. “You?”

“Whatever.” Callum shrugged again. “Mom and dad paid this house off. You know how much money I’ve saved, just from living rent-free? In four years’ time, I’ve got over two hundred grand. Of course, some of that is from the inheritance. But still. My only bills are electricity, property tax, and other small shit. But I can pay for all that with my salary. Food is super cheap. I’ll eventually move out of this shithole.”

“You have that much?!” After thinking for a moment, Keagan realized he had half that much. “I guess that makes sense. I still have a lot of money left from the inheritance. But I’ve been paying rent in Cincinnati.”

“Maybe in a year I’ll move out.” Callum’s eyes brightened. “Hey, since you’re here, we can sell the house when I’m ready to dip out of town. We’ll split it half n half. We should be set for most of our lives, especially with the savings we both already have.”

“That’s actually a really good idea.” Keagan forced a smile, since he was still thinking about his break-up with Daniel. “Wherever you go, you’ll be okay with me tagging along? At least until I figure out what I wanna do?” Unable to hold back, a tear rolled down his cheek.

Seeing his little brother this way, Callum immediately stood up and walked over to him, grabbing him tightly in a hug. “Hey, bro. Yeah, of course. Wherever I move, you can move with me. You know I don’t mind.” By this time, tears were streaming down Keagan’s face, and his body shook in Callum’s arms.

Keagan walked out of the kitchen and down hall. “I need to rest!” he yelled out.

Callum watched his brother walk hurriedly down the hall. Once they entered the network studio, Royce had the front desk call the director and stage manager of one of his main shows that was about to begin. I apologize for this very last minute change, but I have to add one act into the mix.” He then looked at the stage manager. “Janis, I must apologize to you also. I know this adds extra work to your load, and you have to adjust time settings for everything.”

Both Amara’s and Janis’ eyes widened, but they held back from saying anything. Royce continued. “You know who Asher Cross is.” He gestured to Asher. When they looked at him, their eyes bugged out even more. Neither of them even realized Asher was standing right there in the office. “I am inserting Asher into the program today. Just give him five minutes to perform a song. The audience will eat it up, and our ratings will shoot through the roof.”

Seeing that it was Asher Cross, they both understood. “I understand, Mr. Alexander.” Amara gave a nod of respect. I’ll make sure everything runs smoothly.” She directed her gaze at Asher. “Welcome back, Asher! It’s been a few years. This will be a huge treat for everyone! Come on. Let’s get you ready for the show.”

Before leaving with Janis and Amara, Asher turned to Joshua. “I’ll see you soon.” He gave him a kiss and hugged him tightly.

“I’ll be going to Missouri for a few days,” I told him. “Then coming back to Chicago right after Christmas. I wanna spend the New Year with Jordan. And he’s heading back to Seattle. It’s where he grew up. But like me, he’s only staying a few days, since of course we’re meeting back in Chicago early.

Healing the Blackwood Knights

Standing behind Knight Galleron, Cassian kept his eyes closed, so he could concentrate on the inner impressions and flow of energy. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes. “Forgive me Matthias, for I am still very new to magic. I have no teacher, and I am merely working from instinct and from what I have gleaned in the past few weeks on my own.”

“Do your best.” Matthias touched him on the shoulder and gave him an earnest look.

Nodding his head, Cassian pursed his lips and closed his eyes once more. Deeper and deeper he went, focusing on the inner stillness within him. At first, there was nothing. After two minutes, a pulse of energy seemed to rocket through his hands and arms. Along with that pulse, impressions of Galleron flowed into his mind.

He immediately felt the blood inside of Galleron, as if he himself was rushing through Galleron’s veins. There was a heaviness about him, and he understood that the sickness was affecting his blood and possibly his heart.

I need more information. Cassian creased his brows while thinking to himself. While becoming seemingly one with the blood flowing through Galleron, Cassian asked within his mind, “How do I normalize this bloodstream?”

Within seconds, a golden light appeared within Cassian’s brain, pulsing outward and down his spine. It then flowed down his arms, into his hands, and into Galleron’s body. From deep within, somewhere beyond even his mind, Cassian heard a resonant voice. “You need not do anything. You merely become the flow of the Cosmos. You are not a channel, nor are you a healer. YOU are the POWER which flows through your body. This is your most powerful magic.”

Hearing those internal words, Cassian released his breath and relaxed his body. The moment he relaxed, his body became a clear channel for the golden energy to flow. A powerful stream rocketed through the crown of his head and arms, filling up Galleron’s own body.

With stunned eyes, Matthias, Sayer, and Nathanael stared at Cassian. Their jaws had dropped, as they all three saw a golden ball of light surrounding Galleron, while Cassian was pulsing with streams of golden energy.

While entranced in this energy, Cassian felt as if fire and lightning were shooting through him. His hands were tingling, and his head felt like there were a million prickles of sparks shocking him, although he felt no pain.

Opening his eyes, he saw Galleron tremble. While Galleron’s body shuddered, his hands balled up into his fists, right before relaxing. There was a final burst of energy that shot through Cassian and into Galleron. The moment it entered Galleron’s body, he screamed and began to shake violently. For nearly thirty seconds he shook. All of a sudden, his body stopped moving, and he slumped in his chair.

“Is… is he okay?!” There was a worried tone in Matthias’ voice.

For a moment, Cassian said nothing. He was in communion with his inner voice. When he finally opened his eyes, he answered, “Yes. He will be just fine. His body needs to rest for exactly three minutes. Once the energy subsides and settles inside him, he should be wide awake.

“In the meantime, I will energize the pomegranate and rose water juice. I will give it the same magic which I gave to Knight Galleron. I will merely transfer my magic into the drink, which can then be ingested by Squire Sayer and anyone else in the castle who is sick. My inner feeling is that this liquid should be absorbed by the body four times each day for three days. After three days, all sickness will disappear.”

“Just like that?” Matthias was hopeful but found it hard to believe.

Cassian gave him a bow of his head. “I cannot tell you how I know this. Yet, I feel very confident this will work.”

He walked over to where the carafes were on the cart. Closing his eyes again, he placed his hands directly over the pomegranate, rose water juice. Within seconds, a golden light filled the space, and the carafes below his hands were also shining with a brilliant color of gold.

After nearly three minutes, his eyes popped open, and the golden color began to fade away. At that moment, Galleron’s head snapped up, and his eyes also opened.

Looking around the room, Galleron was a bit confused. He then remembered what had happened, and he quickly turned around and gazed at Cassian. Before saying a word, he stared at his own palms, then began touching various places on his body.

He looked up at Cassian again, and a wide smile formed on his face. “Jaron! For the first time in many weeks, I feel no pain! My hands are buzzing, and the fatigue I had has mysteriously vanished! I feel as if I can run for miles without stopping!”

Matthias raised his brows. “Are you sure, Knight Galleron?”

“I am very sure.” He stood up and stretched his arms. “Before the magic, I could barely raise my arms. The pain was too much. And you know I had trouble walking.”

He walked around the room with no trouble. When he returned, stopping directly in front of Cassian, he bowed his head. “Please, Jaron. Whatever it is that you wish. I am in your debt.”

He seemed to want to embrace Cassian, so Cassian made the first move and wrapped his arms around Galleron. “It was nothing, Knight Galleron. You owe me nothing.”

Galleron looked down and stared at Cassian. “Nothing? No. You brought me back from the brink of death. I owe you something. Someday, I will repay you.”

Still embracing him, Cassian looked into his dark eyes. A sensation seemed to pulse between his own legs, and his lips quivered. Without saying a word, he leaned upward a slight bit while pulling Galleron’s head down. Their lips met, and they stayed in that position for nearly half a minute. “I must attend to Squire Sayer now.”

He walked over to Sayer and told him to sit. “This should not be as intense as Galleron’s healing. Since you are only in the early stages, your disease should be cleared out very quickly. By the way…”

He looked at both Matthias and Galleron. “The disease is not a pathogen. Meaning, it is not contagious. It was a poison that acts slowly upon your body, making it look like a sickness. The person behind this poison must be a master apothecary. He or she knows which plants to combine to break down the body in a slow manner. If the body was to break down too fast, it would look like a poison. But since it works very slow, it is cloaked and labeled as a disease.”

“Ponder on that while I work on Squire Sayer.” He then closed his eyes and repeated the process for Sayer.

Within a minute and a half, Sayer was standing up. “I already feel as if I have more energy. The few pains I had in my chest and stomach are gone. That eerie tingling in my hands is also gone.”

He too walked up to Cassian and bowed his head. “I too owe you my life. In another week or two, I may very well have reached the level of toxicity that Knight Galleron had reached.”

Standing very close to Sayer, Cassian leaned in and pressed his lips to Sayer’s. After a long kiss, he repeated what he told Galleron. “You owe me nothing.”

Finding it hard to accept, Sayer looked down, then looked back up into Cassian’s eyes. “I do owe you much. If you will allow me to at least pleasure you in some way. I, like Knight Galleron, am in your debt.”

For a moment, all that could be heard was the slow breathing coming from Cassian. Finally, he leaned forward and kissed Sayer again. This time, it was more passionate, and his tongue had slipped inside. While kissing, he extended his arm out to Galleron. When he felt Galleron take his hand, he pulled him closer, until he was standing next to both him and Sayer.

Within his mind, the flame detached from the wick and floated toward his hand, dancing an inch above his palm. With his eyes closed, he then held out his right hand and relaxed.

“What?!” Cassian’s eyes popped open, and he saw the flame dancing above his palm. For a moment, he was speechless. Then, excitement coursed through him. “Look at that! I DID do it! It is exactly as I saw it in my mind!”

He leaned over and placed the flame form his hand back onto the candle wick. When he did, a playful smile formed on his lips. “Do I get a reward for my progress?”

Nathanael raised a brow. “I should ask a reward from you, since I gave you the idea to replicate the steps. However, since you are my prince, I shall reward you with a kiss.” He leaned closer and placed his lips on Cassian’s.

“I’ll be in L.A. this afternoon. I’m actually at the airport right now. I have a client I’m meeting with in the early evening. He’s a major sports figure, a basketball player, Darnell Washington.”

Not sure who it was, Joshua looked him up online. “I do,” Alexis confessed. “But I am calling you, because, according to your interview, Joshua is your boyfriend. He works for me still, but I don’t want to cross any lines with you either. You are my biggest contract, and I’m not going to do anything to jeopardize that.”

Asher was still staring at Joshua. “Thank you for considering my feelings. I’ll leave this decision to Joshua, though. I will say out loud… I do adore your employee. Since we’ve been here, I think we’ve actually grown closer, more than a business deal with you. But I also know, business is business. Without you, I wouldn’t even have met Joshua. So, to honor our friendship, I’m okay with whatever Joshua decides. And there will never be any hard feelings with me and you.” He then handed the phone to Joshua.

“Hi Alexis. This is Joshua.”

“I take it you heard everything?” Alexis asked him.

“Is there anything in particular that Darnell likes?” Joshua was ready to seal the deal for his boss.

Alexis smiled, and they could almost feel his energy through the phone. “Sure. I’d like that. I’ll book a room for myself at the Ritz. Meet me there at 6. Call me when you get to the hotel.”

After hanging up, Asher and Joshua decided to take a shower together. Afterward, they drove downtown to shop for new clothes for Joshua. Once Joshua had new, colorful pants, shorts, T-shirts, and long-sleeve shirts, they had lunch, then went home to unload everything.

“Thank you for all my new clothes.” From behind, Joshua wrapped his arms around Asher. “It’s better than my wardrobe in Chicago.” He pecked him on the cheek, then kissed him passionately on the mouth. After their long kiss, he added, “I know this was originally a business deal with Alexis. And sure, who doesn’t want their career to be furthered? But honestly, if I never see a dime again from you or Alexis, I still want to be with you.”

Asher froze and closed his eyes. With Joshua’s arms still wrapped around him, he shuddered. “Do you mean that?”

Slowly slipping around, Joshua was now standing in front of him. “In the beginning, I was thrust into this. I accepted this position, this job with you, well, because it was you. I could’ve easily quit working for Alexis. But my client was you. I already told you I fangirled you for a long time. And then, I was told by Alexis that my next job, beyond making coffee and cleaning, was to satisfy you. I jumped at the chance.

Joshua added, “As for this new client, Darnell Washington… now that, I feel like I have to do. Why? Because I’m still working for Alexis. And per the contract he has set up with you, I don’t want to tread on anyone. Because of that contract, I don’t feel like I can just up and quit on him just yet. Cultivating Magic

Once they stepped foot inside the castle, Elden grasped the hands of both Nathanael and Cassian. “You both have been here for over a month. The next time I see you will probably be around the two-month mark.”

He then whispered, “Common sense says you should hide your magic, Jaron. I have no problem with it. As you know by now, I am a very easy-going individual. There are many, however, who will kill you on sight if they know what you possess. Magic is a prized possession throughout our kingdom. Only a very few can access it. As I understand, anyone can access magic, but very few do.

“Some people spend their entire lives cultivating magic, but they only reach the beginning levels. But you… you say you did not know you had magic. Yet, power radiated from you as if you were already a high-level mage. And since you are from an enemy kingdom, many will come after you with a fervor if they know what you have.”

“I understand.” Cassian nodded and bowed his head. “Thank you for the warning, my lord.”

“Very good.” Elden stared at him meaningfully. “I would be lying if I told you I am not interested in seeing you develop your magic. Mages are valuable in all kingdoms.” He twisted his lip and dropped the subject. “At any rate, I must be on my way. In the meantime, in my absence, Matthias will guard you both and look after you two.

“Also, do not worry. Although you should keep your conversations of magic at a minimum, I have made sure, from the very beginning, there are no ears in the walls. Nobody is spying on you.” For a moment, he was quiet. “Let me add… if you do try to cultivate your magic, do it only in your private quarters with the door closed.”

Elden then released their hands and turned to walk off. “My lord.” Cassian tugged gently on his shoulder while Matthias watched. “You should know us by now.” He turned to Nathanael and waved him closer.

With Cassian in front of Elden, and Nathanael in the back, they both embraced him, then kissed him, one at a time. “We will see you in a few weeks. If you have time, stop in and check on us.” Cassian embraced him once more before he left them with Matthias.

Once Elden turned the corner, Matthias led them into their personal chambers. “I will be your personal guard. When I am relieved for my breaks, Captain Elden will send a trustworthy knight to take my place.

“Also, Jaron, thank you again for healing me and possibly saving my life. I know on paper you are my enemy. But Captain Elden seems to trust and favor you both. I am completely in your debt.”

“It was nothing.” Cassian lowered his head.

There was an awkward pause, and Matthias scratched his head. “I... uhhh... also, if either or both of you ever wish for my company, I will come. Captain Elden has given me his orders to take care of you both in his place.” His cheeks turned red. “But beyond his orders, I do believe I would enjoy your company.”

Nathanael gave him a coy smile and walked up to him slowly. “We will remember that, Matthias.” He stroked Matthias’ dark hair and placed both his hands on him, feeling his lean, muscular body. “I am sure we will enjoy your company as well.” Cassian merely nodded in agreement.

Without saying another word, Matthias turned to leave. Before he took a step, Cassian placed a hand on his shoulder. “You did not say goodbye.”

With wide eyes, Matthias stared at them both. Cassian leaned in closely and locked lips with Matthias. Afterward, he gestured for Nathanael to do the same. After their kiss, the two prisoners bade him farewell, and he slowly walked away in a daze.
