But at the edge of modern hardware engineering, breakthroughs happen when you stop pushing harder and start designing geometric constraints. Something sitting at the heart of Silicon-based AI systems, and Conscious Stack Design (CSD).

A few days ago, I wrote about Mercury 2 — the fastest AI reasoning model, named after a neurotoxin, planet, and symbol: Mercury. My thesis: most of us are in liquid mercury mode, conducting signal without filtering or holding it, and the depletion we feel is not a productivity problem. It’s a physiology problem.

I still believe that. But I watched the film Hoppers this weekend, and it highlighted something my essay missed.

A Pixar story about a beaver, bridge, and shared consciousness

Hoppers is Pixar’s 2026 film about a girl named Mabel who hops her consciousness into a robotic beaver to save a glade — a patch of wild forest that her grandmother taught her to sit still in and listen to.

The glade is threatened by a highway overpass. Mayor Jerry wants to run a beltway straight through it. The whole plot is structured around the fight to stop the bridge. But here is what stayed with me after the credits: the bridge was never really the problem.

The glade was already fading before the highway was announced. The beavers had been driven out. The birds had thinned. The pond was shrinking. Mabel’s grandmother was gone. The place she called home was already losing what made it home — not just because a bridge was coming, but because nobody had been tending to it. The highway just made the loss visible. It gave the decay a name, a villain, and a deadline.

And this was the part that stood out for me the most: stopping the bridge didn’t save the glade. Even in the film, what saved it wasn’t the protest — it was the beavers coming back. It was the dam being rebuilt. It was the structure that holds water, holds life, holds the pattern in place. The bridge got rerouted, yes. But the glade survived because something was built worth keeping.

What if the bridge isn’t the problem? What if the problem is that we never build anything actually worth slowing down for?

What my last essay missed

My last essay named the “toxic bridge” — liquid mercury: conduct without filter, speed without retention. That part is right.

The Hoppers insight completes it. The problem isn’t just that we’re conducting too much. The problem is that most of us have no structure for what AI is pushing out of us, to properly hold what we conduct. We’re running a bridge to nowhere. Signal comes in. Signal goes out. But what’s the real cost?

A nutrition coach I know described it perfectly. She helps her clients eat consciously — slow down, notice, choose. But when she opens her laptop, she feels like she’s pulled to do the opposite. The tools and algorithms set the pace. She tries to conduct, but may struggle to filter or hold. She is not failing. She is running the only mode her tools were designed for. And she, like many others, has no conscious dam.

That’s the bit I missed. The Mercury essay said: you’re in the wrong mode. The Hoppers insight says: you also have no conscious structure to move into.

The question for you

Instead, have a think about this:

What have you been conducting within yourself, that has nowhere to go? Or is leading to nowhere, of your own intention or design?

Not: what should you stop doing. Not: what tool should you add. The deeper question: what is the dam you haven’t built — the structure that would hold what’s already flowing intentionally through you?

If that question lands differently than last week’s, the next section is for you.

Over the last week, I noticed three different domains pointing to the same metal: Mercury. So I did some digging to see what the through-line was for you.

On July 9th, Inception Labs released Mercury 21 — “the world’s fastest reasoning language model, powered by diffusion.” The pitch: production AI is loops now, and in loops, latency compounds across every step, every user, every retry. So they built the fastest conductor.

In the same breath, a stack of 2026 papers in Nature, Wiley, and ACS introduce fluid-based neuromorphic computing — liquid-metal memristor arrays and hydrogel fluidic crossbars that mimic neuroplasticity through ion motion. A mouthful for some, I know, but the language in these papers is almost alchemical: “Computation and dynamics are not separable.” and “Fluidic devices operate in true physical time.” Scientists are building liquid bridges between silicon and brain, and the science is real.

And then over in the the skies (for my more cosmic readers), Mercury is in Retrograde (June 29th to July 23rd) moving backward through water signs. The astrologists say: the messenger turns back to retrieve what was skipped.

Three fields. Three Mercury mentions. You probably haven’t seen this type of connection yet, so let me take you through why it matters in the AI age.

1 — The Toxic Bridge

Fringe science has been fascinated by liquid mercury for a long time. The theories rely on real properties: mercury is both a liquid and a highly conductive metal, capable of generating intense electromagnetic vortices. Speculative traditions — from Nazi Die Glocke2 lore to the TV show Fringe (one of my wife and I’s favorites) — treat spinning mercury as a “bridge between dimensions,” a medium that can carry consciousness out of the body.

They got the function right. Consciousness needs a conductive medium to bridge matter and mind. They got the material wrong. Elemental mercury is a potent neurotoxin that destroys the very neural tissue it’s supposed to carry.

This type of bridge poisons what it carries. This is the attention economy in material form.3 A medium that carries signal but degrades the carrier. Mercury 2 is the AI version — speed without filter, throughput without discrimination, latency compounding across every loop.

Conduct, filter, hold. The toxic bridge only conducts.

3 — The Discriminating bridge

In Vedic tradition, Mercury is called Budha (not to be confused with Buddha) — the discriminating intellect. The filter, not the fluid. The selector, not the conductor. Budha decides what passes through and what gets held back. The difference between a wire and a sieve.

This is where the retrograde lesson lives. Mercury retrograde is the messenger turning back to retrieve what was skipped. In a civilization that only moves forward — faster models, faster loops, faster latency compounding — retrograde is the corrective. Go back, get the signal you missed, then move again.

The Vedic numerological tradition assigns the number 5 to Mercury. Five is the dynamic center of the 1-to-9 cycle (hello Conscious Stack). Balance, agility, movement. It sits exactly in the middle. The capacity to hold opposing forces in tension and still transmit clearly.

Conduct, filter, hold. The discriminating bridge filters before it holds.

3 — The Structural Bridge

There is a third bridge. One that preserves what it carries rather than degrading it.

Siloxane (Si-O-Si) is the repeating molecular unit of quartz and silica glass. It holds information in geometric precision without degradation. Quartz doesn’t poison the signal. It preserves it. This is why silicon dioxide is the foundation of modern computing: it’s the one material that can hold a pattern indefinitely without leaking.

So the progression across the three bridges is: fluid → filter → lattice. Liquid mercury is the bridge as fluid — fast, conductive, toxic. Budha is the bridge as filter — discriminating, selective, held in discipline. Siloxane is the bridge as lattice — structural, durable, non-degrading.

The AI industry is in permanent liquid-mercury mode: conducting without filtering, speed without discrimination. The neuromorphic labs are trying to build a fluid bridge between silicon and brain. The Vedic tradition has been saying for 3,000 years that the bridge is the filter, not the fluid. And siloxane is what the filter is building toward: the permanent structure that doesn’t degrade.

Conduct, filter, hold. The structural bridge holds what the filter has cleaned.

The 3 Mercurial Modes

If you work at, or have interests in, the intersection of technology and consciousness — and are a bridger type — you already feel the toxicity of conducting without filtering. The operating manual is simple: three modes, and the discipline to know which one you’re in.

Mode 1: Liquid Mercury (Conducting)

Fast, fluid, high-throughput. The bridge is open. Signal flows freely.

• When to use it: scanning, absorbing, learning, immersing in a new domain, early pattern recognition.

• The sign you’re here: you’re excited, taking in everything, making connections fast, feeling “in flow.”

• The risk: this is the neurotoxic mode. Stay here too long and you degrade. The bridge poisons the carrier. You feel scattered, overwhelmed, porous, unable to sleep. The signal is moving through you but nothing is being held.

• The practical move: set a timer. Conduct for a defined window, then close. This mode is for intake, not output. Never publish from liquid-mercury mode.

Mode 2: Budha (Filtering)

Discriminating, selecting, naming. The bridge narrows. Signal becomes message.

• When to use it: after conducting. When you’ve absorbed enough and need to decide what matters.

• The sign you’re here: you’re writing, editing, structuring, choosing what to include and what to cut. You feel the friction of “this is true but this isn’t ready.”

• The risk: over-filtering. Perfectionism. Holding the signal so long it goes stale. The filter becomes a wall.

• The practical move: filter with a deadline. Mercury (5) means clean enough to transmit. Apply the 1:3:5 rule: one core signal, three supporting points, five bounded elements. Then ship.

Mode 3: Siloxane (Holding)

Structural, durable, non-degrading. The bridge becomes a lattice. The message becomes a permanent artifact.

• When to use it: when the filtered signal needs to last. Doctrine, curriculum, frameworks, systems others can repeat without you.

• The sign you’re here: you’re building something that outlives the moment — a page, a program, a system, a practice.

• The risk: skipping straight to siloxane without filtering. You build a structure around an unfiltered signal, and the structure holds the noise in place permanently. This is how institutions calcify around bad doctrine.

• The practical move: only siloxane what has passed through Mercury first. The lattice is for filtered signal, not raw intake.

So essentially: conduct in the morning, filter at midday, hold in the evening.

Why This All Matters

Where this shows up in the body: the one who only conducts feels depleted, scattered, unable to sleep. The nervous system is processing signal without retention. The fix is a filter between intake and output.

Where this shows up in decisions: most knowledge workers are stuck in liquid-mercury mode — conducting constantly, never filtering, wondering why they feel depleted. The diagnostic question is: am I conducting, filtering, or holding right now — and is that the mode this moment needs?

Where this shows up in tools: the AI industry is building Mercury 2 — faster conduction, more loops, lower latency. Nobody is building the filter. That’s the gap. The next generation of tools will win on right discernment: the ability to filter signal from noise before it reaches the user.

The Retrograde Lesson

Mercury retrograde is the messenger refusing to send a signal that hasn’t been filtered. In an age of liquid mercury — conductive, fast, neurotoxic — the most radical act is to slow the signal down until it becomes medicine.

The AI industry named its fastest model after a neurotoxin and called it progress. The neuromorphic labs are building fluid bridges between silicon and brain. The Vedic tradition has been saying the same thing for 3,000 years: the bridge is the filter.

If you’re a bridger type, your job is to be the lattice.

Conduct, filter, hold.

Something seismic is happening in the AI world right now, and most people are too busy chasing the next shiny tool model to notice what’s taking place.

This week, we start with the headline: NVIDIA just took the gloves off. After quietly building out their open-source AI model — the Nemotron family, which just hit 100 million downloads — Jensen Huang is now ready to own the entire stack.1 Hardware, software, model. All of it. And the timing wasn’t accidental. The moment OpenAI announced their own “Jalapeno” chip, and Anthropic started making hardware moves of their own, NVIDIA stopped playing nice. When everyone’s trying to own the stack, you either compete or get consumed.

But here’s what I think is more interesting than the corporate chess match: why it matters for you and me. Each of these companies — OpenAI, Anthropic, NVIDIA, Palantir — is dangling “free access” and cutting-edge tools in front of developers and builders, effectively crowdsourcing the data they need to train and refine their models. Most people rushing in to use these tools don’t mind. They want to “stay ahead,” a completely valid choice.

But AI is now changing the fundamental economics of everything, and what people are quietly giving up in exchange for speed and convenience deserves more attention than it’s getting.

Open Source & Sovereignty

Meanwhile, Anthropic is pushing the Australian government for blanket immunity from IP law2 — the right to train on anyone’s copyrighted work without consent — while simultaneously crying foul when others do the same with their models.3 That level of corporate hypocrisy is worth calling out (while I still appreciate how good of a job they’re doing in marketing their company, and releasing frontier models).

But this is why open source is more than a technical preference — it’s a sovereignty play. Bitcoin didn’t come from a corporation. Neither did many of the most important innovations in tech. They came from “open, decentralized” communities of people who valued freedom and self-determination. The same energy is alive in the open-source AI space right now, and I think it’s worth paying close attention to.

Ideas Aren’t Generated, They’re “Channeled”

There’s also a deeper philosophical thread I keep returning to: the idea that great ideas aren’t generated by us — but channeled through us. From Isaac Newton to ancient Vedic mathematicians, history keeps showing us that insight arrives through prepared, clear minds, not just busy, optimized ones. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz argued centuries ago that consciousness can’t arise from mechanical parts alone — you can walk inside the world’s biggest machine and never find a single thought or feeling in the gears.4 That feels urgently relevant right now.

So as silicon-dominant intelligence reshapes the world around us, the most underrated skill isn’t prompt engineering or model selection alone. It’s maintaining your own coherence — your ability to think clearly, independently, and from a place of genuine understanding rather than reactive noise.

The stack wars are real. But the most important stack you can build is the one inside your own mind.

The tweet came through at 5:20 in the morning, and I read it before I was fully awake.

On paper, that’s just a long upgrade cycle for a machine most people never think about. In my body, it landed differently. Not as “news,” but as a timeline. A hard edge. A door closing and another one quietly unlocking.

I want to be careful here, because there’s an obvious way to misread what I’m about to say. This isn’t “a particle collider is the secret center of the universe,” and it isn’t a conspiracy thread. Here’s what I can actually confirm: I’ve watched enough systems — human and technological — to know that when something of that magnitude goes offline, experiments don’t just pause. It opens a gap. A long civilizational inhale. And what I’ve noticed, every time, is that gaps don’t stay empty. They’re where new realities get installed — quietly, gradually, usually without anyone’s consent. That part I’ve seen too often to write off as mere coincidence. Whether CERN’s specific timeline means anything more than physics, I genuinely don’t know.

So let me name the thing plainly, before it drifts off into vague inspiration. I intend to find and train 144,000 conscious technologists by the end of May, 2030. Not “sometime in the 2030s.” Not “before the decade’s out.” May 30th, 2030 — because precision is what changes the way the nervous system relates to time.

Precision turns vibe into a commitment.

That’s the what. The rest of this piece is the why — starting with the elephant in the room, whether we’ve named it or not.

The Speed Mismatch

What I’m really pointing to is not a number, or CERN, or a conspiracy. I’m pointing to the lived experience I see everywhere right now: the speed mismatch. Carbon bodies moving through a silicon world. People trying to stay coherent while the stack beneath their feet changes faster than their cognition can adapt. People outsourcing attention, agency, and memory not because they’re lazy, but because the environment is engineered to make outsourcing feel like relief.

And what I keep noticing is that the more “helpful” the tools become, the more invisible the tradeoffs get. Convenience starts to feel like kindness. Automation starts to feel like peace. But the bill always arrives somewhere else—usually in the form of dependency, behavioral conditioning, and a subtle erosion of inner authority.

So when I say “conscious technologist,” I’m not talking about someone who likes tech. I’m talking about someone who can still hold intention when execution becomes infinite. Someone who can make deliberate choices inside systems that are designed to make default choices for them. Someone who remembers they’re human even when the tools don’t.

What This Did For Me

What the CERN shutdown did for me was take this whole feeling I’m experiencing, and sharpen it into urgency.

Because whether you think CERN is “just physics” or something more, the deeper pattern is the same: we are entering a window where the external world is being rewritten faster than most people can notice, and the internal world (consciousness itself) is about to become the next frontier. The battle won’t be for information. The battle will be for attention and meaning. The battle will be for the ability to remain sovereign inside your own mind.

And that’s why I keep returning to training. Not just learning. Training is different. Training implies repetition, discipline, embodiment. It implies that the goal isn’t to know more—it’s to become someone who can hold a certain standard under pressure.

If you’re reading this and you want a single practice to run this week, it’s this: watch what your AI tools are now training you to become. Not what they do for you. What they train in you at subtler levels. Notice the behaviors they encourage. Do you become more present, or more scattered? More decisive, or more dependent? More sovereign, or more suggestible?

That’s the beginning of becoming a conscious technologist. Not the framework or movement. The noticing.

In this video, I walked through an idea that reframes where I think AI is actually heading and what it asks of us.

We’ve moved from prompt engineering, which in physics terms was open-loop control (you fire one perfect input and pray it lands), to loop engineering, which is closed-loop feedback: act, verify, correct, repeat.

I’ve come to think of loop engineering as oscillation training.

The catch is that a loop which only eats its own tail, the ouroboros, is stable but quietly wasteful. The real leap is the spiral: a “13” that breaks the “12,” where each cycle doesn’t just correct but rewrites the loop itself, turning repetition into directed evolution. The story going around is that this already shipped, in systems built to sustain that spiral, and then got pulled days later under national-security framing, the reasoning being that this level of power is unsafe for undisciplined minds.

But the cat is out of the bag. When chaos arrives, order gets sought out, and the only order that scales with silicon-speed chaos isn’t a regulator or a kill switch, it’s discipline inside the human mind: cognitive, mental, spiritual. This is the work I’m doing with conscious technologists, by becoming as aware as possible of their own tech use (check out our other publication below):
