The Matilda effect is: a systematic underevaluation and denial of recognition a woman's contributions and achievements particularly in scientific Fields.

[in short] → women do the work, men take the credit

The term was coined by Margret W. Rossiter and pays homage to Matilda Joslyn Gage a suffragist who wrote about unfair erasure in an 1870 essay

Some may call it the gendered version of the (Mathew effect)

Here's a list of some shadowed true inventors

1. Milevia Einstein → her work in Mathematics was credited to her husband Albert Einstein

2. Rosalind Frank → found the structure of DNA and was the first to photograph the double helix. Watson and crick won the Nobel prize instead

3. Hedy Lamarr → co-invented frequency hopping technology in 1941 which is the foundation of modern technology (WiFi, bluetooth & GPS)

4. Lise Meitner → co-discovered nuclear fission. Her lab partner Otto Han received a noble prize.

5. Jocelyn Bell → discovered radio pulsers in 1967 instead of being awarded for her discovery, her supervisor Burnell received the Noble prize.

6. Alice Ball → developed an effective treatment for leprosy in 1915 (the ball method). resulting in saving thousands of lives but she tragically died before submitting her findings, Arthur Dean published her work under the name of the Dean method. Ball's name was left out of medical history for decades untill a local researcher uncovered the truth.

7. Theono of Crotone → invented the principal of golden mean which was attributed to Pythagoras and is know as the Pythagoras theory

8. Maria Salomea Skłodowska → the first woman to ever receive a Nobel prize for her work and radiology and discovery of radium her first Nobel prize was only a nomination to Pierre Curie but he insisted on including her and giving her their recognition she deserves.

9. Chien-shiung Wu → worked on the Wu experiment and the Manhattan project. her Nobel prize went to colleagues Lee and Yang

And the list goes on…

matter of factly Matilda wrote a book called: woman as inventors which was discussing the topic more thoroughly highlighting more inventors

Today the term is not just used for stem Fields but it also expanded to other Fields as well. A term to describe the discreditd efforts and unfair attributes. The term did not just stop there it evolved.

You might think that in the age of technology it is harder to steal someone's work because of all the ways you can prove the authenticity, plagiarism and different ways of documenting and the alleged rising of women's rights where they can Sue the rights and credits back. So does the Matilda effect ends here?

To answer that question simply, It did not. let me introduce you to:

the reverse Matilda effect

because yes women today have a right to work and legal rights over personal credits. But women dominant Fields are unfortunately looked down upon. the reflection of a stereotype that academic excellence is reserved for men and women's work is less valued.

What's the difference between the original theory and its reverse?

• The original theory talks about women being discredited

• The reverse theory talks about women being belittled and underestimated

It was (women work→ men get the medal)

Now it's (women work→ men recognized as “better”)

The underlying problem still the same and it's still there. it was never about rewriting history and favoriting one gender over the other, but it's writing it accurately. Giving credit to those who deserve it without discrimination. acknowledging the people behind innovations.

And admist all challenges, obstacles and erasure attempts women have succeed in leaving an erasable mark throughout history, Although they received their recognition considerably too late, but we can break the cycle by not allowing women today receiving “celebratory applause” accompanied by whispers of scorn and Snickers and not allowing anyone to treat their work as a background noise when it's a voice of a true revelation.

The devil wears Prada is considered till this day one of the greatest film ever made in the 2000s and about the fashion industry

Many people were excited and honestly I'm one of them on hearing the news of part 2

But on the contrary many others thought that the first part was so successful and iconic and they can't possibly re-create something that will add to the film

Nontheless, expecting good or bad outcome from the second part of the film , you're probably waiting to see how they'll recreate it in the 2020s

What I'm here to talk about today is mainly the fashion of the film cause it's what plays a great factor In succeeding of the first , we didn't see much of the outfits so far except the ones in the trailer and photographed by paparazzi at the the locations in New York.

The changes are mainly in the one responsible for the in the film.

In the first film it was Patricia fields, which is know to be an iconic stylist and was responsible for many iconic shows other than the devil wears Prada like: sex and the city , confessions of a shopholic and Emily in paris.

Patricia said that for Miranda priestly outfits she didn't want to follow the fashion trends of the time she went for things that are more timeless so she pulled the archives of the designer Donna karen Who's known for her office style designs in the 80s

And she used the archives specifically cause she wanted the outfits to be original for the character and unrecognizable .

However currently it's no longer Patricia fields but it's someone who worked under her during the first film (Molly Rogers)

Both women are absolutely fantastic but Molly gravitates to be more trendy than Patricia ever did which is not necessary a bad thing in general but I think it probably wasn't the best option to choose trendy items especially for Miranda since Miranda is a trend setter not a trend follower also a point in Molly's defence is that for the first film no had any expectations and after it's release it became so iconic that for the second movie the people may have set the bar a little too high.

And from the released trailer so far her work for the film's wardrobe and outfits especially the Valentino red stud shoes that is shown at the beginning it spiked a controversy.

The film has been know with it's famous red stelitto shoes that are on the poster for the first film which is a powerful, timeless, classy shoes now being replaced by Valentino's red studded heels and the moment the teaser was brought to light it to announce the release of the sequel on may 1 2026 , the people heavily criticized the shoe saying that Miranda priestly wouldn't wear such thing and that they know that the movie is a fail already , but would she actually wear it or not?

And are the outfits worn and shot by paparazzi ruining the movies legacy for it's iconic wardrobe?

Now , we don't know the plot of the movies or the development of the characters and how it will be dedicated 10 years after the original film

The sequel as I mentioned is 10 years after the original film so it's possible that not just because they changed the main stylist but because the film's Vision itself changed and it's moving towards the fashion today and the minimalist movements , or it could be following the expected storyline that Miranda is falling out of fashion and is struggling with the new changes in the industry

And as for the red rock studs it could be considered to most people outdated but Miranda is not someone that wears she could wear something from years ago and make it iconic also since it's an "outdated" shoe it could be a symbolization of Miranda struggles to adjust as we only saw runway as a print magazine and shows where Miranda stands or the possible decline of runway or it could just be that the film was simply sponsored by Valentino and that's why it appears in the trailer

Another take is that the film is depectid of a book also titled the devil wears Prada written by Anna wintors assistant Lauren Weisberger in 2003 and 10 years later (2013) she publishes her second book revenge wears Prada and in that era the rock studs by Valentino were trending so maybe that's why they used it in the sequel but I doubt that this it true and that's the meaning behind it.

And aside from the stylists there's also a factor to why you may think that something about the clothes is off it could also be that the quality of luxury brands is not the same quality from 20~10 ago (fast fashion).

Now I'm not a fashion expert but this is just me a watcher and a great fan of the film so if you're someone interested in fashion or an expert I was just discussing the controversy around the the movie and all the point of views I've heard so far.

I always feel like my actions has a butterfly effect on life , if I made a bad desicion today it'll hunt me in the future near or far so instead of having fun as the teen girl I am , I talked myself out of it- every single time- , I burned myself out studying to get those grades that may or may not get me into the college of my dreams or a decent one at least so I can get a decent job and live life comfortably and live a good life making me dread September, because as September starts school starts and I'll get in the same cycle again . wake up , go to school, endless tests, tutoring sessions , homework, sleep rinse repeat.

I've forgotten that I have the privilege of learning because I only saw the tests and grades .

I don't know how did the summer break pass or what I did with it matter of factly I don't even know what I did with my past teen years

When I was younger I always thought my teens would be fun and loud, coming out straight out of an early 00s movie but it's definitely not a highschool musical.

I don't know where I went wrong but I realised that I can break the cycle I've barried myself in- and for what. I focused too much on my future I forgot to live in the present. Focused on building a goodife to myself but is it really a good life if It feels empty somehow , if I can't enjoy even the success I fought so hard for because I always felt I was obligated to.

I realised that life is too precious to waste and wish away , and there's nothing wrong to make "dumb choices" or to have "a lack of judgment" because you can make those all the time even with precise calculation or so you thought..

So there's no shame in living life ,taking it's beauty in and enjoying in

What's a shame is wasting it for no reason, not living it to the fullest when you only live once

Sure you can't always make bad desicions for the plot or impulsive choices all the time ,that's not what I'm saying, but I'm saying that you can ways make room for fun even if it's inconvenient, try to make sometime throughout the day for yourself to make yourself happy even with something small trying something new for instance or walking a new path , trying a different order instead of your comfort one , picking up the sketch or notebook on the desk collecting dust and try to do something with it draw/paint/doodle/write, you can try something on the scale of crazy from jumping in the pool with your clothes on or jumping with a parachute. don't waste your chances, don't give up into the cycle, routine and lies of perfectionism

Life was never perfect and it's not ment to be . That's the beauty of it

You can't prevent it's waves nor control it but you can swim or surf through them .

Now I'm not telling you how to live your life but consider this a gentle reminder that maybe if you feel like your losing yourself somewhere along you should maybe try a different perspective that perhaps there's more to life and a little change or inconvenience of your routine is not so bad after all.

But slowly people have forgotten the small joys of life. In the ocean of big achievements , the little ones often goes unnoticed

Just because something is small doesn't mean it's nothing , or It isn't enough . Small victories lead to big ones , so let's start appreciating the little delights of the day that often goes unnoted .

It could be hearing a song that you haven't listened to in a while , one the beings back memories of when you used to sing along happily to the lyrics .

Or maybe it could be a cup of coffee/ matcha / juice ( if you’renot Into caffeine) — a meal that that tasted just right, as if the ingredients are perfectly measured , making the flavors dance on your taste buds

It could be seeing someone you missed , or discovering an old time capsule and reading a letter from you past self. As you read it you realise how far you've come .perhaps things went as planned ,perhaps not—but you still survived, brushed off the dust, and kept going

It could be a photo that with a person that is no longer in your life but still reminds you of the good times you both shared together and makes you smile.

A birthday gift . A handwritten letter. A note from a teacher .a joke from a classmate or colleague

The beauty of the sky, with the moon shining among the stars , or the vibrent colours of sunset or sunrise . Stepping out for fresh air, walking out of a stressful situation.

It could be making someone else happy, finally wearing that outfit you've been saving. Receiving a compliment.

A cat or dog running to you.

A slow morning.trying something new. A good hair/make-up day.

Going on a trip— or moving to the city of your dreams . Metting someone who will eventually become the one and slowly falling in love.coming to bed after along day.

A baby waving at you .someone buying you something simple because it reminded them of you.

Realising you don't have a cold after all—just a dry throat.or along waited package is arriving today.

So many things more things happen in life and are overlooked , but in fact there's much more joy to life than you might think. And once you appreciate it you'll instantly feel much better .
