Timeline

• Valet parking is covered. Once you arrive, let the valet attendant know you are going to the AWAY Spa.

• Check in at the front desk, and they will escort you to the 16th floor.

• If you are in the 10 AM treatment group, make it to the valet line by 9:30 am and be at the spa on the 16th floor no later than 9:45 AM. Budget enough time for valet parking and checking in at the front desk in case there is a line.

• Once you arrive on the 16th floor, you will be greeted by the Girls on the Go DFW team. We will give you your gift bag and wristband. Your wristband is how you will be identified as part of our group throughout the day.

• If you are not in the 10 AM treatment group, head to the Wet Deck. We will pray in and then begin our welcome.

• If you are in the 10 AM treatment group, head straight to the AWAY Spa. They will give you your detox juice and take you to the locker room, where you can pick up your robe and slippers. You will then be escorted to the relaxation lounge until your treatment time.

Treatment Schedule

Important: If you are receiving a treatment, you must be in the spa no later than 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. Please allow enough time for the check-in and changing process. If you arrive late for spa check-in, that time may be deducted from your treatment time. We will not be able to reschedule treatments.

Because Spa Day is all about finding ways to pour back into ourselves, we’ll spend time at a fun DIY station making our own spa essentials. Sugar scrubs, body oils, and bath salts are pieces of a solid self-care routine. Our plan is to take Spa Day with us when we leave.

You’ll explore:

• What is my self-care routine missing?

• How can the spa essentials I create take my routine to the next level?

• What non-tangibles do I need to incorporate into my routine?

You’ll take those questions and create a plan to start the following week.

4. You Will Finally Have a Moment to Hear Yourself Think

Journal & Reflection Station

Every day, we wake, we work, we cook, we clean, we listen, we encourage, and we restore the world around us. At Spa Day, we will have an opportunity to unplug from the needs that normally surround us and have a moment to hear ourselves. A chance to sit with our own thoughts and process needs we may not realize we even have.

We are crafting a journaling station with prompts like…

Timeline

• 10:45 am – Arrive and park at the AT&T Discovery District at 308 S. Akard St., Dallas, TX 75202. Note – You can park at a meter ($3–$4) or at the National Garage for $5.74. See details below.

• 11 am – Arrive at the district and receive your wristband from Leah, who will be standing at the entrance of the Exchange Food Hall. Leah will tell you where we will be stationed.

• 11:05 am – Grab your food in the hall (check out the delicious restaurants here), and head to the place where we’ll be stationed.

• 11:30 am – Two Truths & a Lie – Get to know those around you by figuring out which statements are true and which one is a lie.

• 11:45 am – Speed Friending – You’ll have 2 minutes with each lady to get to know her better. Talk fast because the clock will be winding down!

• 12:15 pm – Girls on the Go Connect 4 – Teams compete against each other to successfully complete the most challenges. Each successful challenge wins your team a Connect 4 chip. The first team to get Connect 4 wins!

• 12:55 pm – Wrap-up & Goodbyes

For September’s Girls Day Out, we are pouring back into ourselves. Restoration is what’s on the menu for Spa Day.

We’ve done summer camps with the kids, swam, spent endless hours in the Texas heat, and attended every cookout we’ve been invited to. For me, at least, it’s been an amazing summer. My heart is full, but my body is on empty. In September, we’re going to the W Hotel for a much-needed day of relaxation. We’ll connect with each other, but most importantly, we’ll connect with ourselves.

What’s Included in September’s Girls Day Out?

• A rejuvenating experience in the W Hotel’s spa pool, dry sauna, steam shower, and relaxation room

25 beautiful ladies joined us for Resort Day at Virgin Hotels Dallas for one of the best events of the year. Each lady received a gift upon arrival, and inside was a colored wristband.

We broke into teams based on the color of our wristbands and were challenged to learn at least 10 things we had in common. The old adage says we're more alike than we are different, and we learned that couldn't be more true.

We enjoyed the "Girls on the Glow" cocktail along with a delicious spread of sandwiches, desserts, fresh fruit, vegetables, chips, salsa, pita, and hummus. There was more food than we knew what to do with! I ate more macarons than I care to admit. They were so good!

We set up a Game Hub and a Chit Chat Lounge, but the ladies bypassed both to head straight for the pool! And they stayed there the entire time. We formed a Soul Train line in the pool, danced, laughed, and had an absolute blast.

As you all know, the heart of Girls on the Go is creating a space for women across DFW to find community, build friendships, and explore all the Metroplex has to offer. This month, we'll do all of that… but make it a pool party!

What’s Included in July’s Girls Day Out?

• All-day access to the Virgin Hotels Dallas Pool Club

• Our event will be held from 11:00 AM–2:30 PM, but your pool access lasts all day

• One signature cocktail or mocktail (your choice)

• A beautiful lunch spread featuring tea sandwiches; dips like messiah, hummus, and whipped ricotta served with fresh vegetables and artisan breads; plus a cheese and fruit board

  • Guests are welcome to order additional food and beverages

• Engagement stations:

  • The Social Lounge

  • The Line Dance Spot

  • The Game Hub

  • The Refresh & Recharge Zone

• A complimentary treat bag

Timeline

• 11:45 am - Arrive and park at the Dallas Zoo - 650 S. R. L. Thornton Freeway
  Dallas, TX 75203. Parking is $14.

  Note - You can park on the street or take DART to the festival to reduce costs. The Halperin site has noted that parking on the street will be scarce, so budget extra time if you plan to search for free parking.

• 12 pm - Arrive at the McDonald’s near the Zoo

  • Michelle will give you your wristband

  • We will establish partners for the day

• 12:10 pm - We will leave McDonald’s and head to Halperin

• 12:15 pm - We should arrive at Halperin

• 12:15 pm - 1 pm - We will explore the park, visit vendors, dance, have a good time

• 1 pm - Meet at the covered pavilion (#20 on the map below - The Bandshell) for instructions about where game hour will be held

• 2 pm - We will wrap but the festival to continue for another hour, so enjoy!

As of 6/15, there is no published schedule of events for the festival so we will play game hour by ear.

  • Red: Honors the bloodshed and resilience in the struggle for freedom.

  • Black: Represents the people of the African diaspora and their proud heritage.

  • Green: Symbolizes the natural wealth, growth, and renewal of the land.

  • Yellow/Gold: Sometimes added to represent hope, prosperity, and the natural wealth of Africa.

• What are the expected weather conditions?

  • There’s a 10% chance of rain up until 3 pm. The high for the day is 92 degrees.

• Is my food covered?

  • For the festival, we are purchasing our own food. To keep in alignment with the desire of the park, we did not ticket the event and prepare food ahead of time. We will support the Black Owned vendors serving food.

A note about Girls on the Go

Though we are a Black Owned Business, we celebrate and welcome all people and cultures. We believe we are best within the context of community and inclusion. We will continue to celebrate different cultures throughout the year.

The festival is free and there will be vendors, a farmer’s market, live music, a DJ, food trucks, trivia, and karaoke. See you there!
