Chapter 10b

The Road to Power

(Sparks observing Nivla)

Nivla reached into his aura, grasped the Idea of the VEV in his vital hand, and duplicated it. Then he plucked the duplicate out of his aura and handed it to Flower, who placed the idea in her own aura. “As soon as possible,” said Nivla, “Spear of Darkness will begin the Ley-road to the site of the next Nest. When he reaches it, you will take what supplies and servants you need there and begin construction. I will enlarge the VEV, begin the search for slaves, and continue work on this town.

Spear of Darkness reached them on his return, dropped off two more of Nivla’s children, Breath Stealer and Demon Fists, and led the road crew on, past the first Nest, toward the next Nest site. The large, dangerous animals had by then been driven out of the area surrounding the first nest by the VEV, and they’d built rings of ward stones around what would be farming and herding lands. The land remained green and fertile, ready to be worked by the servants and slaves of the empire of Nivlandis.

When Spear of Darkness reached the next site, Flower of Death gathered the servants, equipment and supplies she needed, and headed off into the wilderness, following the road toward the site of the new nest.

Nivla stayed behind, and showed his new assistants, Breath Stealer and Demon Fists, how to create additional members of the dark horde, and enlarge the existing ones to the size of a small bat.

The assistants stared in fascination at the dark form as it was decanted into its cell. The VEV’s transformed body and wings glistened like the surface of intestines fresh-cut from a corpse, but dark as only primal no-thing can be.

“At this size,” said Nivla, “they can travel about as far as a bird can fly in two days. Then the motivating, directing Will I’ve impressed on them will drive them to return, with whatever vital energy they have seized.”

“What will they gather from first,” asked Breath Stealer.

“They are attracted to the strongest sources of vitality,” said Nivla. “I have observed and refined the VEV hunting and gathering methods, and as expected it is quite painful to their prey. As a result, the larger, more vital animals tend to leave. This is of course a benefit to us, for where the gathering habits of the fly-sized VEV drove off the smaller creatures, those of the enlarged ones will drive off the mid-size beasts, including the larger carnivores.”

“Making the area around a hive safer for the servants to work in,” said Breath Stealer.

“Yes,” said Nivla, “But if left in an area too long, they will tend to drive off all the more vital sources and turn to lesser prey that cannot flee. If allowed to continue, they would eventually suck all the life out of everything for miles around, leaving a useless desert.”

“So, before that happens,” said Breath Stealer, “we switch to larger VEV who will fly further and seek bigger prey.”

“Yes,” said Nivla. “They will also help us locate and acquire slaves. I am fairly sure there will be slave villages within the enlarged VEV’s extended range. I will show you how that acquisition will work when the Roc Riders arrive.”

Relating with The Purpose of Service, cont.

In previous Workshops we have briefly discussed The Oath of Synthesis:

“In the name of The One Life,

“in service to The Divine Plan, and

“in Divine Law and Order,

“I dedicate my Life, my Soul and my Activity,

“To helping Every one, At-one, with The One.”

Sounding this Oath (or its equivalent) is part of the alignment process of those who Serve that Life. We, ourselves, perform this process multiple times a day, including at the beginning of every inner creative activity.

This Oath is, fundamentally, a method of placing one’s Self in right relationship with the Purpose of that Life.

“But he is,” replied Vision of Creation-Beatrice.

“He is what?” asked friend Sparks.

The Ceruleans contemplated the question for some time, Scanning our astral memories, and puzzling over how to respond.

“You are so strange,” said Vision of Creation. “You know so much, yet you understand so little.”

“Hey!” said Brad.

“We mean no ill,” said Vision of Creation. “It’s just that… Any Cerulean child would Know that what Nivla is doing is… is not just wrong, but the greatest evil we know.”

“We are taught the creative art of magic from our youngest years,” said Hammer of Creation. “And in the very language of that art, everything you Make is created using the Will of The One. The very spark of Will that gives Life to your creation is always drawn from the Will of the One. This ensures that your creation is part of the One and has a Place and Function within it.”

“But Nivla is not doing that,” said Vision of Creation. “Instead, he is using his own, selfish will to create a form of pseudo life. Things that are motivated only by his will, that have no life apart from what he gives them, and which depend on him for their continued existence.”

“The perfect slaves,” said Shekinah.

“Oh, it is far, far worse than that,” said Hammer of Creation. “He needs energy to build his empire, and he will also need it to feed his creations. And having no true life of their own, what they hunger for is the energy of Life.”

“He will send them forth to gather that energy,” said Vision of Creation, “and they will take it from wherever they find it.”

Foundation of Empire

All our Ceruleans gasped in outrage, and Swift asked, “How many children does he have?”

“What, did he break another rule?” I asked.

“It is part of The Good Law,” said Swift, “and for very good reasons. We do not breed randomly, but only when and as our Septs give us leave. It helps ensure the continued improvement of our species, and that our numbers do not grow so large that we exhaust Earth.”

I could hear the others, in the background, having similar discussions with their hosts.

“You’ve mentioned this ‘Good Law’ before,” I said. “And for that matter, so has Nivla. But tell me, who is this Good Law for?”

“Why, for us Ceruleans.”

“Not for the other species of men, but only for you Ceruleans?”

“Well, it says we are to treat the whole of Earth with care, including every man, animal, plant, and stone, and it is clear that every member of all species of men are included.”

“Ah, well, it is good to be included,” I said. “But tell me, how do the House Servants determine who is to reproduce and when?”

Chapter 130

Service Relationships, continued

As we’ve discussed, the “Place of Service” is the relationship between Purpose and Synthetic Activity.

· This definition emphasizes the place or position.

However, when one turns that definition around one has:

“The relationship between Purpose and Synthetic Activity is the Place of Service.”

· This definition emphasizes the relationship.

A difficulty with the first version is that when we use it, we tend to identify with that position.

Suppose, for instance, we determine (perhaps accurately) that our particular Purpose as Soul is to Serve The One Life in the area of Synthetic Leadership in general and in The New Government in particular.

If we have not yet fully transmuted our identification with form (and, unless we identify as The Soul 24 hours a day, we have not), then we will automatically identify Government as our area of service, identify with that form, and become attached to it to some degree.

Chapter 129

Service Relationships

In the immediately preceding workshops, we practiced Moving into The Place of Service.

In this and the following Workshops we will practice moving into that Place and into Service Relationships.

Now, understanding what we mean by this will require some experience and a bit of explanation. As usual, it helps if the experience precedes the explanation. Otherwise (due to the classic emphasis on concrete knowledge) we tend to confuse the accumulation of information with understanding.

So, because we have just practiced moving into The Place of Service, we will explain that Place before moving on to Relationship.

The Place of Service

Although we call it a “Place,” it is also a relationship.

When you identify as Soul in The Ashram, midway between the overshadowing Divine Purpose and Synthetic Activity, you are in The Place of Service.

As Soul, in that Place, one then Relates that Purpose with an embodied condition.

· One does this by performing that creative Synthetic Activity which unifies or at-ones that Purpose and condition.

· The energy, force, and vitality of that condition thereby transform into a more focused and complete expression of that Purpose.

This is The Magic of Synthesis.

Chapter 9a

Foundation of Empire

When everything quieted, the settling dust revealed a mound of boulders. The village was completely gone, buried under a huge rockslide.

“Well, that worked perfectly,” said Drac.

“Yes,” said Nivla. “With a little encouragement, anyone looking for me will believe I died under it.”

The cold air flowed past them as they slid down the mountain, whipping their hair behind them and forcing their brownies into the shelter of their nests. Once down, Drac said, “This way, father,” and led them to the village’s refuse pile. There, four hands of floater parts awaited them—pieces of the bodies, engines, and controls, most purposely broken off the crushed floater Drac and Summer had left in the village. Other parts were from additional salvaged flyers, providing enough duplicates to suggest that the remnants of four flyers were somewhere under the rubble. They levitated the parts off the pile and brought them with them as they examined the debris field.

“Check for a pattern to the debris,” said Nivla. “We need to figure out where pieces would have wound up if all four of the new floaters had been in the village.”

After they’d reviewed the entire scene, Nivla asked, “What do you See?”

“It looks,” said Drac, “like some of the early boulders, especially the larger ones, bounced through the village and kept going—blasting through huts and walls and scattering broken pieces of possessions ahead of them.”

“Very good,” said Nivla, “and what did this do to the things they struck?”

“The lighter, more malleable items such as clothing tended to be more intact and to have fallen closer,” said Drac. “Heavier, more solid items tended to be shattered into pieces and to have been thrown further away.”

“And the floater we left in the village?” I asked.

“I found several pieces from the floater in the middle and outer debris field,” said Drac.

“Then we will scatter our parts there,” said Nivla.

When they were done, they levitated six lengths above the valley floor and Scanned the remains.

“Why did we do all this?” Nivla asked Drac.

Chapter 8b

Family Reunion

(Nivla via Crystal)

They reached the foothills of the mountains later that day and emerged from the jungle the day after. There were still trees there, but the air was cooler and the greenery less over-abundant. The lower mountain slopes included small herds of lesser grazing beasts, hunted by lions that weighed only three times as much as male house servants. The lions ignored the floaters as they wound their way through the hills toward the pass above. The way became steeper and steeper, forcing Nivla back in his seat, and he became very glad he’d weighed everything so carefully.

The lead floater, carrying the tree lion, was almost out of power by the time they crested the pass and reached the wall. The original had been a crude barrier of stone, branches, and thorns, but Nivla had long before replaced it with a thick wall of worked stone, half again as tall as a mastodon and topped with sharpened stakes that pointed down, out, and up. In the middle was a gate, just wide enough to admit a floater.

“Look at that wall!” said Ravi.

“It looks Mesoamerican,” I said, “but it’s brand new.”

“How do they get the stones to fit together that way?” asked Beatrice.

“Breaker says you have to picture the wall before you build it,” said Mark, “and then invite the stones to become part of it. Some of his distant ancestors were Stone Makers.”

“Ah, well, he’d know then,” said Brad.

“How do you ‘invite’ stone to join a wall?” asked Anjelita.

The Place of Service

In the previous workshops we practiced Standing Receptive to The Seven Aspects of Service.

In this workshop we begin moving into The Place of Service.

Now, “The Place of Service” is a state of conscious Soul relationship between one’s Group Purpose and Group Function within the Ashram.

Having invoked and stood receptive to each of the Seven Aspects of Service, we must of course ask what we are Called to do next.

The response is clear. We are Called to act on what we have received.

That activity is The New Creative Process or Magic of Synthesis.

The serpent was trying to choke Nivla to death. Some of the boys thought this was amusing, he being such a snake himself. One could hardly blame the snake. It was an opportunity hunter, after all, and Nivla had walked directly under it. But its chosen prey was a determined man and hated having his will frustrated.

Nivla tossed his free arm back and forth, rocking from side to side until he managed to roll himself face up. Then he planted his left boot flat on the ground, invoked the vital energy of Earth into his foot center, up the foot to his left hand, and struck the snake.

In the previous workshop we practiced Standing Receptive to The Sixth Aspect of Service to The One Life. In this workshop we will begin practicing Standing Receptive to The Seventh Aspect of Service.

Now, as usual, the process of invoking and receiving The Seventh Aspect is aided by having some understanding of what that Aspect is. In an earlier workshop we described the Seventh Aspect of Synthesis as “Synthetic Activity.” However, it can be described in other ways as well, depending on how you relate with it and what it is doing.

Basically:

· Synthetic Activity is what it is,

· Coherence is what your consciousness experiences, and

· Union is what it Directs.

In addition, when you are Called to Create The One Life as part of that Life, that is The Seventh Aspect of Synthesis.

Chapter 7c

The VEV Hordes

Nivla raised the floater’s shield net as they passed through the outer boundary stones. The shields were the strongest that were practical in something as low-powered as the floaters, and were proof against most dangers, but they were not infallible. They were now in the wild lands, surrounded by great beasts of all kinds, many far larger and more numerous than he and his small group of servants.

The interior of the continent had never been fully explored, as expeditions tended to disappear. Only fifteen years before a single native guide had staggered back from the latest attempt, with a confused tale of a stampede of giant beasts chased by a dagger of great-toothed cats. The stampede had overwhelmed the floater’s shields and crushed many of the explorers, and the cats had stopped to feed.

The wild land’s animals were magnificent, full of life, and living among them was a worthy challenge for Ceruleans. The lesser races, however, were barely able to survive, and often did not. Rescue expeditions commonly discovered villages in ruins, inhabited only by well-chewed bones.

After hundreds of years of effort, he was finally on his way. He wanted to believe that nothing could stop him now, but he prided himself in being a realist. It would take only one mistake—for an over-attentive clerk to question his manifest, a passing Node Maker to scan his equipment, for any of thousands of unpredictable events to ruin everything. But he’d come too far now. He would not allow anything or anyone to stop him.

He was sick of the delusions and lies his family, associates, and friends—everyone in Atlan—lived by. Disgusted by the limits imposed by The Law. But he was going to change it all. He had to, because he was the only one who could.

“Talk about effing ego,” said Brad.

“Just who does this guy think he is?” said David. “Any ideas for the scenario yet?”

I heard stealthy movement in my room and grabbed for my bedside club. But nothing was there.

“Good morning, Mistress,” said a familiar voice. I was back in Atlan. Morning Star was quietly bustling about the suite, and Glitter Eyes was doing something to my face. “The bath is ready, mistress,” said Morning Star.

I was relaxed and happy, despite the abrupt awakening. My relationship was going surprisingly well. I smiled at the memory as Morning Star held a towel up to me. I grabbed it, tromped down the hall to the bathing stream and found some of the team already there. Ruchi and David were in the pool, critiquing slasher scenes from The Green Inferno—they seemed to feel they were now experts on how blood and guts “really” behaved. I was not in the mood to hear the gory details of a cannibal-based horror show and tuned them out. Anjelita and Fadia were lying on massage tables—discussing the subtle effects of clothing fabrics, colors, and style—while being massaged. Much better.

Glitter Eyes flew into the brownie spa and was greeted by a chorus of squeals. I lay down on the massage table Morning Star indicated, and she began washing and massaging my body. The noise from the brownie spa built up to a wild hum, like a colony of bats invaded by a hive of bees.

“What’s up with the brownies?” I asked.

The phrase “You’re going to Hell,” echoed in my head, until Crystal nudged me, and I became aware that I was staring at the glint on one arm of the wheels that latched and unlatched the door. It was not a comfortable feeling.

“It’s not Naraka!” I said.

“No, a microplane below it,” said Herr Zauber.

“So, does this mean we’re done?” asked Crystal. “We don’t have to do that Gate survey?”

“Yes,” said Herr Zauber. “But I still have to show you how to reach the Atlan Gates, and what to do with them.”

“Why didn’t we come here in the first place?” I asked.

“Ever since the goblins discovered that ‘Meister Zauber’ is the current incarnation of The Lord of Vats, I’ve had to be rather circumspect in my movements,” he said, “and I’d prefer not to draw attention to either The School or the Stairs by frequenting them.”

“What is this place?” I asked.

“An expression or representation of the ‘Stairway to Heaven’,” he said.

The Ladder of Lights

Americans do not know how to behave around royalty.

Crystal’s eyes flared, and she lifted both of her hands to her forehead in preparation for a traditional Korean bow, Sheva began an obeisance, and I a curtsy, which I hadn’t attempted since I was twelve. The Prince stopped us with an upraised palm, and said, “That is not necessary.

“Meister Zauber, Sparkle, Crystal, welcome back to the main campus. Sheva, my dear, we are delighted to see you. While you are our first goblin, you are all the more welcome because of that.

“We have students and faculty here from many of Earth’s species, as well as from further abroad, some of which you will not recognize, and some of which you may be surprised to find here.

“Sheva, please do not be troubled by the fact that you are the only member of your species here thus far.

A dark green Chinese dragon with a yellowish belly galumphed through a doorway in the far wall. He or she—I couldn’t tell and wasn’t about to ask—was about eight feet long, serpentine, with four legs, two horns, and a variety of tendrils. The way she bounced along was reminiscent of Tigger from the Winnie the Pooh cartoons, her mouth was fixed in a permanent smile, and she sounded like a very precocious five-year-old girl.

One of the dragon’s longer tendrils “Felt” the air toward Crystal, even as she lowered her head and performed a pushup—which I took as her version of a bow—toward the Prince.

“Lóng Tái,” said The Prince, “you are familiar with Meister Zauber.” 

Lóng Tái fixed her eyes on Meister Zauber, performed another pushup toward him, turned back to The Prince, and said, “Yes, Highness. The Meister is a friend and associate of my grandfather, Lóng Hūxī.”

“Meister Zauber has brought us a new student,” said The Prince, indicating Sheva, who nodded to Lóng Tái. “This is Sheva. She is accustomed to a large, underground, urban environment and is very sensitive to the sun. Please take her to admissions, see that she gets settled, and show her around.”

“Yes Highness,” said Lóng Tái.
