Registration is now open for the new edition of the Global Campus Alumni Careers Orientation. Across five online sessions, alumni will receive practical guidance on navigating the human rights job market, preparing strong applications, succeeding in interviews, expanding professional networks, and developing mentoring skills. The final session also serves as a pathway into the GCA Mentoring Programme 2026/27.

🌍 Cross-Regional School on Climate Action and Human Rights

Applications are open for the Cross-Regional School on Climate Action and Human Rights, an intensive programme taking place in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, from 12–17 October 2026. The School brings together students, researchers, civil society actors and young professionals to explore climate governance, environmental justice and human rights through an interdisciplinary, practice-oriented approach.

Global Campus alumni from the eligible regions are encouraged to apply.

🎓 HRDx Mentoring Programme for Early-Career Human Rights Scholars

The Human Rights Defender Exchange (HRDx) has launched a new two-year mentoring programme for early-career scholars from the Global Majority researching human rights defenders and human rights activism. Participants will benefit from international mentoring, academic writing support, networking opportunities, career development activities and an international writing workshop in Indonesia.

Pre-registration is now open for the next edition of our annual Careers Orientation! Designed exclusively for GC alumni and students, this professional development initiative offers a structured series of free workshops on navigating the human rights job market, building effective CVs and cover letters, interview preparation, and networking. The programme features expert facilitators, including career coach and EMA alumna Niamh Walsh.

💼 GC Alumni Employment Survey 2026

The new Global Campus Alumni Employment Survey provides insights into the professional trajectories of recent graduates from the GC’s regional master’s programmes in human rights and democratisation. Among respondents from the 2023–2025 cohorts, 81% reported ongoing professional engagement, including through employment, internships and traineeships. The report also highlights graduates’ growing demand for stronger career support, mentoring and networking opportunities.

🌐 GC Policy Observatory Webinar Series: Academic Freedom

The 7th edition of the GC Policy Observatory, funded by the European Commission, focuses on the research project ‘Protecting, promoting and enjoying academic freedom: trends, challenges and impacts from a human rights-based approach’. Led by GC Research Manager Dr. Chiara Altafin, the project features 8 policy analysts selected from our regional alumni networks. 🏆 Celebrating 25 years of ERMA alumni: EAN Human Rights Award: Call for Nominations

To mark 25 years since the ERMA programme welcomed its first cohort to Sarajevo, the ERMA Alumni Network (EAN) is launching the inaugural EAN Human Rights Award. This peer-recognition award honours a graduate whose work has made a genuine and demonstrable contribution to human rights and democracy in South East Europe. The alum will be invited to speak at the anniversary ceremony in Sarajevo (3–4 October 2026), feature in a long-form interview, and deliver a guest lecture to incoming students.

🍽️ Act Against Forced Starvation

In a collaboration between alumni from various regions and the GC E-learning Department, we are launching “Act Against Forced Starvation.” This educational digital tool is designed to equip you with a deeper understanding of the weaponisation of starvation. Featuring thematic modules on international law, lived experiences, and accountability, the resource includes contributions from Right Livelihood Laureates and Global Campus experts. 🌍 New Publication: The State of Democracy in Africa
A collaborative effort between alumni from the Africa and Arab regions has resulted in the publication of The State of Democracy in Africa. This book features 35 contributors from 31 countries who provide personal and academic insights into challenges such as corruption, freedom of expression, and institutional strength. It is a powerful testament to the potential of cross-regional alumni collaboration and a hopeful look at the future of democratic governance. The project took place as part of the GCA cross-regional alumni-led activities.

🌍 Launch of Alumni-Led Cross-Regional Activities

The 2025 cycle of alumni-led cross-regional projects has officially kicked off. 14 initiatives reflect the diversity and thematic breadth of alumni engagement across regions.

Selected 2025–26 projects address issues including:

Climate justice, children’s rights, business and human rights, gender equality, extractive industries, migration, democratic participation, unpaid care work, digital education and human rights defenders’ protection — with collaborations spanning Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Arab region, South East Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

🌍 Alumni report their experience at the Human Rights Education Forum in Budapest

From 9 to 11 December 2025, a small team of GC alumni joined more than 250 participants in Budapest for the Forum on Human Rights Education — Unleashing Human Rights, organised by the Council of Europe and OHCHR with the European Youth Forum, Amnesty International, and the support of the Global Campus. Representing GC hubs across Brazil, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, South Africa, Palestine and Cameroon, the alumni group contributed diverse regional perspectives to the discussions.

📘 News from the Regional Alumni Communities

Mariah Grant (APMA alumna) is a human rights expert focusing on migrant and sex worker rights, freedom of movement, and labour exploitation. In her previous role as Director of Research and Advocacy at the Sex Workers Project of the Urban Justice Centre (New York, US), she co-supervised student teams that drafted Exercising Discretion: A Handbook for Advocates and District Attorneys Navigating the Possibilities and Impacts of Non-Prosecution Policies in the Context of Sex Work, published by Yale University.

We’re sharing with you and inviting you to join Act Against Forced Starvation, a campaign and learning resource developed by alumni across GC regions, particularly from the Arab Master’s Programme. This digital tool helps you deepen your understanding of the right to food, the illegality of the use of starvation as a weapon of war, and the legal and human rights frameworks surrounding it. It is a valuable resource for anyone wishing to strengthen their knowledge or engage in advocacy.

🌐 Alumni at the Global Classroom 2025

Thirty Global Campus students and alumni joined the 12th edition of the Global Classroom, hosted by Mahidol University (GC Asia Pacific) in Bangkok. Participants from more than 20 countries explored how climate, business, and human rights intersect through research, field visits, and advocacy work. Alumni collaborated with peers across regions on topics such as supply chains, extractive industries, technology and AI, and environmental justice.

🌍 Alumni-Led Projects – This Year’s Round Closed

We have closed this year’s round of alumni-led cross-regional projects and want to express our deep appreciation for the hard work, leadership, and dedication shown by our alumni.

Thirteen alumni-led projects tackled issues ranging from the genocide in Gaza and education for Afghan women, to children’s rights in Serbia, human rights in Africa, Rohingya refugee rights, and more.

We’re seeing strong momentum in cross-regional alumni initiatives addressing a wide range of issues—from education and youth activism to ecocide. A special shout-out to the team that recently concluded the Palestine Dialogues: Testimonials of a Genocide and Advocacy Workshop. Best of luck to the teams now wrapping up or launching education and advocacy projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and beyond—including online platforms! We’ll be sharing the project outputs over the next months, as they could be valuable tools for many of you!

How long does it take GC graduates to find a job, and in which sectors are they employed?
As every year, we conduct a survey of the last three cohorts of alumni. After several months of data collection, we are now analyzing the results. A big thank you to everyone who contributed!

🗓️ Online gathering of Alumni working in the private sector

We’ll soon be reaching out to several GC graduates who expressed interest in joining a new informal alumni group focused on business and human rights—especially from the perspective of the private sector.

We’ll propose a few dates for an initial meeting, where we aim to map out what alumni working in business are doing—and how human rights and democratisation connect to their work. The goal? To scout ideas for future projects and events together.

This programme connects recent graduates and less experienced alumni with seasoned human rights professionals for valuable guidance, support, and the exchange of fresh ideas. Whether you're looking to advance your career or share your expertise, this is a fantastic opportunity. Mentees will gain personalised advice and expand their network, while mentors will develop their coaching skills and inspire the next generation of human rights defenders. • Calling Alumni in Business: Does your work relate to the business field? We're seeking alumni with experience related to the private sector to collaborate on future activities exploring the intersection of business and human rights. Share your interest here.

• #ActionAgainstEcocide Diaries: Join our photojournalism contest and raise awareness about the urgent need to combat ecocide. Document and share stories from your community or places you care about to spotlight the environmental destruction threatening ecosystems and human rights. Highlight grassroots efforts making a difference and inspire change. Your voice matters in the fight against ecocide. Learn more and submit your inputs through this link. Deadline: 15 March 2025.

• GC Master’s Programmes Admissions Open: Help us recommend our higher education programmes to empower the next generation of human rights leaders! Admissions are now open in various regions: ArMA (GC Arab World), EMA (GC Europe), and APMA (GC Asia Pacific). If taking a GC MA programmes made a difference for you, help us spread the word. • Launching Alumni-Led Projects on Various Critical Human Rights Issues: We're excited to announce a new wave of alumni-led projects that will touch upon various topics including the situation in Gaza, the growing importance of cybersecurity in protecting human rights, children's rights, human rights in Africa, and much more. Some of them will involve Right Livelihood Laureates. Stay tuned for upcoming activities and updates as we would like you to join them!

• New GCA Website Coming Soon: We're rebuilding the GCA website from scratch! We're working hard to create a more user-friendly, informative, and engaging platform for our alumni network. We're looking forward to sharing the new and improved website with you soon. In the meantime, check out the recently revamped GC website.

• Supporting Each Other’s Growth: Through the GCA Careers programme we contributed to equip recent graduates with tools to apply for jobs and advance their human rights careers. We also had a very fruitful mentoring experience, offering not only career advice, but aso hope and resilience in uncertain times.

• Advocating for Climate Justice, and having our biggest meetup in years: We collaborated on climate justice and the rights of future generations, forming teams across 7 regions and leading a wide array of activities. This picture is from Buenos Aires, where LATMA Alumni launched an in-school activity, raising students’ awareness about climate justice.

And this picture is from Athens, where we had the largest in-person alumni gathering in years, networked, exchanged ideas with local climate justice actors, and returned to advance our activities.

• Learning Together Through Workshops With Right Livelihood Laureates: We explored topics such as LGBTQ+ rights, environmental activism, gender movements, and community learning. You can find some very practical insights and lessons learnt in this booklet.

• Contributing to the global discussion around human rights and democratisation through our Human Rights Preparedness Blog, in which 7 regional alumni correspondents authored pieces on diverse topics such as gender and minority rights, the role of technology in enforced disappearances, and human rights defenders in autocratic states.

• Celebrating Achievements Through #GCAStories: We highlighted your achievements and fostered networking through. Check the initiative #GCAstories on LinkedIn.

• Small scale Alumni-led Projects: We finished receiving the applications for alumni-led human rights activities. Engaging with alumni from other regions was a crucial requirement of the call…. we look forward to amazing projects in the year ahead.

• #ActionAgainstEcocide Photojournalism Contest: The Contest invites you to creatively capture the realities, impacts, and solutions related to environmental degradation and ecocide that is taking place around you. You can take photos or videos that document ecocide around you, and share them with us. Apply here:

• Seeking Alumni working in the private sector: Are you working in the business sector? We’re inviting you to join a group of alumni professionals to explore the possibility of working on a collaborative project. Join the group through this form.

Participate in our photojournalism contest, documenting endangered ecosystems and conservation efforts. Selected entries will be featured in a GCA social media campaign and an in-person 2025 exhibition during one of the conferences within the Global Campus of Human Rights network.

Engaged Artivist Award – Call for Applications

• The Engaged Artivist Award honors Artivists addressing mass atrocities and identity-based violence through creative work. The award offers residencies in Venice and Binghamton (2025-26) with stipends, plus recognition at a ceremony in Venice.
