length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

opinions and preferences are two things people defend the most, yet they rarely question where they came from.

we love to believe we are individuals with unique tastes, independent thoughts and personal standards, but a lot of what we call “personal” is simply social conditioning that became so familiar we started mistaking it for identity.

the uncomfortable truth is that most people don’t actually know themselves as deeply as they think they do. they know what they like, but they don’t always know why they like it. and there is a huge difference between the two.

ask someone why they find something attractive, why they believe something is right, why they desire a certain lifestyle, why they value certain traits, and eventually you reach a point where the answer becomes “i don’t know, i just do.”

but “i just do” is not always proof of authenticity. sometimes it’s proof that the programming was successful.

society doesn’t usually force preferences onto us in obvious ways. it doesn’t stand in front of us and say, “you must like this.” it works much more subtly. it rewards certain choices, praises certain appearances, normalizes certain lifestyles and repeats certain ideas until they become indistinguishable from our own thoughts.

and the most powerful form of influence is the one you don’t recognize.

people get uncomfortable when you question their preferences because sometimes the question isn’t challenging the preference itself, it’s challenging the story they have about themselves. if someone has built their identity around being a certain type of person, asking where those desires came from can feel almost like an attack.

because what happens when you discover that something you thought was a personal choice was actually something you were taught to desire?

what happens when you realize some of your strongest opinions were never really examined, just inherited?

maybe that’s why genuine self-awareness is so rare. it requires a person to be willing to admit that they might be wrong about themselves. and that’s a much harder thing to accept than being wrong about a fact.

the irony is that people claim to value individuality, but many people become uncomfortable when individuality actually appears. they celebrate uniqueness as long as it still fits within what they consider “acceptable”.

we say “be yourself,” but often what we really mean is “be yourself, within the boundaries of what we understand.”

maybe the real question isn’t “what are my preferences?”

maybe it’s “which parts of me were chosen, and which parts of me were simply absorbed?”

because knowing yourself isn’t just knowing what you like.

it’s knowing why you like it.

obsessed.

obsessed.

<guid “obsessed”sounds dangerous. it sounds like losing yourself. it sounds like something people warn each other about. but every time i search for another word, i end up back here.

obsessed.

i’ve tried to hide it. i’ve rehearsed conversations before i see you so i don’t seem too eager. i’ve waited before replying to your messages, even when i had my phone in my hand the entire time. i’ve convinced myself that if i could just appear a little more detached, a little less interested, then maybe you would never realize how much space you’ve taken up in my mind.

but i’m beginning to think i’m a terrible actress.

because every little thing about you finds a way back to me.

i listen to a song, and i wonder if you’d like it.

i pass by a restaurant, and i imagine us sitting there.

it’s exhausting how effortlessly you exist in places you’ve never even been.

the embarrassing part is that you probably have no idea.

to you, i might just be another conversation. another notification. another person in your day.

but to me…

you’re the reason i keep checking my phone without realizing it.

you’re the reason i reread conversations that ended days ago, looking for hidden meanings that probably don’t exist.

you’re the reason i remember tiny details you’ve long forgotten saying.

you once mentioned something in passing, and weeks later i still remembered it because when you speak, my mind treats your words like they deserve permanent storage.

i wish i could tell you this without sounding completely unhinged.

because it isn’t the loud kind of obsession people imagine.

it isn’t dramatic.

it isn’t me standing outside your window or refusing to let you breathe.

it’s quieter than that.

it’s the way my day feels slightly incomplete if i haven’t heard from you.

it’s how my mood changes because of a single message from you.

it’s smiling at my phone like an idiot because you said something completely ordinary.

it’s noticing your absence before i notice anyone else’s presence.

i hate how much power you’ve been given without ever asking for it.

and maybe that’s the part that scares me the most.

because i don’t remember handing it over.

somewhere between the first conversation and the hundredth thought about you, you became a habit.

then a comfort.

then a craving.

now i don’t know where the line is anymore.

i tell myself to calm down.

i remind myself that people are allowed to have lives outside of me.

that delayed replies don’t mean rejection.

that not every silence is personal.

that you don’t owe me every second of your attention.

i know all of these things.

i really do.

my heart just refuses to cooperate with what my mind already understands.

sometimes i wonder if you notice.

if you’ve caught me looking at you for a second too long.

if you’ve realized i laugh a little harder when you’re around.

if you’ve noticed how my voice changes when i’m talking to you.

or maybe i’ve been better at hiding it than i thought.

although lately…

i don’t think i’m hiding it at all.

i think it’s spilling through every word i choose.

every smile i fail to suppress.

every excuse i make just to talk to you for a little longer.

i’m trying so hard not to let you see it because once you do, there’s no pretending anymore.

there’s no “i was just being friendly.”

there’s no graceful way to walk it back.

there’s only the truth.

and the truth is terrifying.

because what if you look at everything i’m trying so desperately to conceal and decide it’s too much?

what if my affection feels heavy in your hands?

what if my honesty makes you take a step back?

i’ve thought about that possibility more times than i’d like to admit.

still…

there’s another possibility.

what if you already know?

what if you’ve noticed every lingering glance and every unnecessary conversation?

what if you’ve seen right through me this entire time and simply chose not to say anything?

i don’t know which thought unsettles me more.

being completely invisible to you…

or being completely transparent.

i keep telling myself that i’ll get over this.

that eventually you’ll become just another person i used to think about.

that time will do what time always does.

but every day i make that promise to myself, you somehow become even more familiar.

even more important.

even more impossible to ignore.

so maybe i should stop pretending.

maybe i should stop calling it admiration or a crush or fascination because none of those words carry enough weight anymore.

obsessed.

that’s exactly how i feel about you.

i’m trying not to blow my cover.

i’m trying to act like my heart doesn’t speed up when your name appears on my screen.

i’m trying to make it look effortless, casual, ordinary.

but i don’t think i can hide it anymore.

and maybe the saddest part isn’t that you’ll eventually find out.

i’ve finally admitted what i’ve been denying for so long.

you’ve become the thought that interrupts every other thought.

the person i unconsciously search for in every room.

the voice i replay when the world gets quiet.

i don’t know if that’s love.

i don’t know if it’s infatuation.

i don’t know if it’s temporary or something that will stay with me for years.

all i know is this

i’ve run out of ways to disguise the truth.

i am hopelessly, quietly, undeniably obsessed with you.

familiar strangers.

i don’t know if that’s the right length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

i don’t know if that’s the right term, but it’s the one that hurts the least to say out loud. because saying “we’re nothing now” feels too final, and saying “we’re friends” feels like a lie. so somewhere between memory and distance, between love and absence, between knowing and forgetting, we became familiar strangers.

it’s a cruel thing, really. to know someone’s laugh before they even make a sound. to know how they take their coffee, what silence means from them, what they’re like when they’re tired, angry, excited, overwhelmed. to know the stories behind their scars, the names they only mentioned once, the dreams they whispered when the world was asleep. to carry pieces of someone so deeply within you… only to become someone they pass by without stopping.

it’s strange how a person can become a habit. you don’t notice it while it’s happening. they slowly weave themselves into your mornings, your playlists, your routines, your future tense. every little thing begins to have a version of them attached to it. then one day they’re gone, and everything still remembers them even when they don’t remember you the same way.

we used to exist in each other’s every day. now we exist in algorithms. occasional profile views. stories watched without reactions. birthdays remembered but never acknowledged. names that still appear in search bars because muscle memory hasn’t caught up with reality.

and maybe that’s the worst part.

there was no explosion. no dramatic goodbye. no perfectly written ending. just silence. conversations that became shorter until they disappeared altogether. promises that quietly expired. feelings that weren’t spoken about until they became impossible to explain. somehow, two people who once knew everything about each other became people who wouldn’t know where to begin anymore.

how does that happen?

how do you go from being someone’s first thought to becoming someone they accidentally think about when a song comes on? how do memories stay so vivid while people become so distant? how does someone who once knew the rhythm of your heartbeat become someone who couldn’t tell if you’re okay anymore?

i ask myself those questions more often than i admit.

sometimes i wonder if you ever remember me the way i remember you. if certain places still carry my shadow. if certain words still sound like me. if my name ever crosses your mind without warning. if you ever stop for a second and think, “i used to know that person.”

because i do.

all the time.

i’ll see something funny and instinctively think about telling you before remembering i can’t. i’ll hear news you’d have loved and realise i’m no longer the person who gets to share it with you. i’ll catch myself reaching for a conversation that no longer exists.

grief is funny like that. it doesn’t always come from death. sometimes it comes from watching someone continue living a life that no longer includes you.

the hardest part isn’t that i don’t know you anymore.

it’s that i still know the version of you that no longer exists.

the one who made me feel seen. the one who knew exactly what to say. maybe you’ve changed. maybe i have too. maybe if we met today we’d be nothing more than polite introductions and forced smiles. maybe we’d shake hands, exchange names, and never realise we once carried each other’s worlds.

isn’t that terrifying?

that two people can survive each other.

that life keeps moving.

that the earth never pauses long enough to mourn the versions of ourselves we lose along the way.

i don’t hate you. i don’t even know if i’m angry anymore. i think i’ve simply reached that quiet place where missing someone becomes background noise. it never fully disappears; it just learns to coexist with everything else.

you become a chapter i no longer read but still refuse to remove from the shelf.

and maybe that’s what familiar strangers are.

people who know the map of your soul but no longer have permission to enter.

people whose absence still echoes louder than most people’s presence.

people you’ll probably never speak to again, yet somehow they’ll always have a reserved seat in your memory.

we’re strangers now.

but we’re the kind of strangers who could never truly pretend we never happened.

and maybe that’s what makes it hurt so much.

because forgetting would’ve been easier.

instead, we’re left with recognition without closeness.

history without a future.

memories without new moments.

love without somewhere to go.

just two familiar strangers…

walking through the same world,

carrying entirely different versions of the same story.

backstory 💁🏾

living with length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

living with borderline personality disorder is one of the most unhinged things i’ve ever experienced.

i don’t think people understand what it’s like to know that your own mind can become the least reliable place you’ll ever live.

every day feels unpredictable because i never really know which version of myself i’m going to wake up as. sometimes i feel grounded, hopeful and completely capable of handling life. other days, the smallest inconvenience feels like proof that everything around me is falling apart. the hardest part is how believable those feelings become while i’m living them.

people assume it’s just about being emotional. i wish it were that simple.

it’s about feeling everything with an intensity that i can’t always explain. it’s about my emotions arriving before logic has a chance to speak. by the time reason catches up, my body has already decided i’m in danger.

i’ve spent so much of my life trying to explain that i know my reactions don’t always make sense. i know a delayed text message isn’t automatically rejection. i know someone being quiet doesn’t always mean they’re angry with me. i know one disagreement doesn’t mean a relationship is ending.

i know all of those things.

and somehow, in the moment, none of that knowledge feels stronger than the fear.

that’s what makes this disorder so exhausting.

i don’t stop being rational because i want to.

it’s because fear is louder than reason.

i’ve had moments where i’ve convinced myself someone secretly hated me simply because they took longer than usual to reply. i’ve replayed conversations over and over, searching for the exact sentence that might have made someone change their mind about me. i’ve apologised for things people weren’t even upset about because i was already preparing myself for rejection that hadn’t happened.

sometimes i catch myself doing it.

sometimes i don’t realise until hours later.

sometimes not until days later.

and every single time, i sit with the embarrassment of knowing how convincing my own thoughts can be.

the fear of abandonment is probably the hardest part for me to put into words.

people hear that phrase and think i’m afraid of being alone.

i’m not.

i’m afraid of caring about someone so much that losing them feels like losing a part of myself.

i’m afraid that one day someone will wake up and decide i’m too difficult, too emotional or too exhausting to keep around.

the frustrating part is that this fear doesn’t need evidence.

it creates its own.

if someone seems distracted, my brain fills in the blanks.

if someone needs space, i convince myself it’s because of me.

if someone changes their tone, i immediately assume i’ve done something wrong.

it’s like my mind is constantly trying to protect me from heartbreak by preparing me for it before it happens.

except most of the time, the heartbreak only exists inside my own head.

i’ve realised that i don’t just struggle with trusting other people.

i struggle with trusting myself.

there have been days where i’ve questioned whether my feelings are valid or whether my disorder has simply turned the volume up again.

i’ve asked myself if i’m genuinely hurt or just triggered.

if i’m setting a healthy boundary or pushing someone away.

if i’m protecting myself or sabotaging something good.

living like that is exhausting because every decision feels like it comes with an internal debate.

i also carry an incredible amount of shame.

people rarely talk about what happens after the emotional reaction.

they don’t talk about lying awake at night replaying every conversation.

they don’t talk about wishing you could unsend messages, take back words or rewind an entire day.

they don’t talk about how painful it is to become aware of your own behaviour after your emotions settle.

i’ve cried over the way i’ve reacted just as much as i’ve cried over the situations that triggered those reactions.

i don’t enjoy losing control.

i don’t enjoy feeling overwhelmed.

if anything, those are the moments that stay with me the longest.

one thing i’ve had to accept is that borderline personality disorder doesn’t just affect how i relate to other people.

it affects how i relate to myself.

there have been periods where i genuinely didn’t know who i was.

i changed so much depending on who i was around that i couldn’t tell where other people’s expectations ended and where i began.

i’ve questioned my personality, my opinions, my goals and even my sense of identity.

not because i was pretending to be someone else, but because i was desperately trying to find someone who felt stable.

therapy has forced me to be more honest with myself than i ever wanted to be.

it’s taught me that having a diagnosis doesn’t remove my responsibility for how i treat people.

it also doesn’t mean i deserve to spend my life drowning in shame.

both things can exist at the same time.

i can acknowledge the ways i’ve been hurt while also taking accountability for my actions too

i can recognise that my reactions come from fear without pretending that fear excuses everything.

that balance has probably been one of the hardest lessons i’ve had to learn.

healing hasn’t been dramatic.

it hasn’t been one big breakthrough where everything suddenly made sense.

it’s looked like catching myself before sending the message.

it’s looked like sitting with uncomfortable feelings instead of immediately reacting to them.

it’s looked like asking myself whether i’m responding to what’s actually happening or to something my brain is predicting.

sometimes i get it right.

sometimes i don’t.

i’ve stopped expecting perfection from myself because perfection was never the goal.

peace is.

i don’t know if i’ll ever experience emotions the way other people seem to.

maybe i’ll always feel things a little more deeply.

maybe me.

there are some people who come into your life so quietly that you don’t realize, until years later, just how deeply they’ve become woven into the fabric of your story. that’s exactly what you are to me,Asmawu Kabir

it’s crazy because if someone had told me seven or eight years ago that we’d become this close, i would’ve laughed in their face. i genuinely never thought we’d even be friends. somehow life had other plans, and now i honestly can’t imagine my life without you in it.

you know what i love the most about us?

i have never had to question your friendship.

not once.

i’ve never had to sit and wonder if you secretly hated me. i’ve never had to overthink your intentions or ask myself whether i was forcing the friendship. i’ve never had to replay conversations in my head trying to figure out if i said something wrong. i’ve never had to earn your love or your loyalty.

with you, everything has always felt… safe.

and that’s such a rare thing to find.

people don’t realize how exhausting it is to constantly question where you stand with someone until they meet a person who never makes them question it at all. you’ve been that person for me. you’ve given me a kind of peace that i didn’t even know friendships were capable of giving.

you’ve shown up for me over and over again. maybe not always in loud or dramatic ways, but in the ways that actually matter. you listened when i needed someone to listen. you stayed when it would’ve been easier to leave. you cared without making me feel like i was asking for too much.

in a world where people constantly leave you wondering whether you’re valued, whether they’re secretly talking about you, or whether their kindness comes with conditions, you have always been consistent.consistency is such an underrated form of love, and you’ve mastered it effortlessly.

you’ve loved me through different versions of myself.

through the happy me.

the confused me.

the stressed me.

the version of me that didn’t even know what she was doing.

and somehow you never made me feel like i was difficult to love.

i don’t think you understand how much that means to me.

you’ve set the standard for friendship in my life without even trying. because of you, i know what genuine friendship looks like. i know that real friends don’t make you beg for consistency. they don’t disappear when life gets inconvenient. they don’t make you feel like you’re too much. they don’t compete with you or secretly hope you fail.

they simply love you.

that’s what you’ve done.

you’ve loved me in one of the purest ways i’ve ever experienced.

and i hope i’ve been even half the friend to you that you’ve been to me.

i don’t say “i don’t take you for granted” just because it sounds nice. i mean it with everything in me. i know how rare people like you are. i know not everyone gets to experience a friendship like this. i know there are people who spend their whole lives looking for someone who makes them feel as seen and as comfortable as you’ve made me feel.

i found that person in you.

thank you for every random conversation we’ve had.

thank you for every laugh.

thank you for every check-in.

thank you for every time you believed in me.

thank you for every memory we’ve made together.

thank you for making friendship feel easy.

thank you for being someone i never have to doubt.

whenever i meet new people, whether i realize it or not, part of me compares the friendship they offer to what you’ve shown me over these years. not because i expect everyone to be exactly like you, but because you’ve shown me that healthy friendships actually exist.

you’ve raised the bar.

and because of that, i refuse to settle for less.

sometimes i wonder if you even realize the impact you’ve had on my life. i don’t think you do.

because you’ve taught me that love doesn’t always have to be romantic to change your life.

sometimes it looks like a friend who stays.

a friend who remembers.

a friend who chooses you over and over again.

that’s you.

i don’t know what the future looks like for either of us. maybe life will take us to different cities, different countries, different careers, different seasons. maybe we’ll be busy building our own lives. but one thing i pray never changes is this friendship.

because you’ve become part of my life in a way that’s impossible to replace.

if i’m ever blessed enough to look back on my life when i’m old, i know you’ll be one of the people i’ll thank God for. not because you were perfect, but because you were real.

you’ve been one of the safest places i’ve ever known.

one of the easiest people to love.

one of the greatest blessings God has given me.

i hope life is gentle with you.

i hope every prayer you’ve whispered finds its answer.

i hope every dream you’ve buried in your heart comes alive.

i hope you experience the same unwavering love and loyalty that you’ve so freely given me.

because if anyone deserves beautiful things, it’s you.

thank you for walking into my life when neither of us expected it.

thank you for staying.

thank you for being my friend.

and thank you for unknowingly changing the way i’ll measure friendship for the rest of my life.

i love you so much,Asmawu Kabir

more than these words will ever be able to explain.

i really hope, years from now, when we’re both living completely different lives, we can still look at each other and say, “we really did this. we really stayed.”

and i hope we do.

i was a feminist even before i knew there was a word for it.

before i ever heard the word spoken in a lecture hall, saw it printed in a book, or watched strangers debate it online, something inside me already knew that the world was uneven. i couldn’t explain it then. i couldn’t point to theories or quote scholars or distinguish between patriarchy, misogyny, sexism, and gender roles. all i knew was that there were rules for me that never seemed to exist for the boys around me. i knew that my voice was interrupted more often than theirs. i knew that confidence in a boy was admired while confidence in a girl was questioned. i knew that i was expected to shrink in places where boys were encouraged to expand.

i was a feminist before i had the vocabulary to defend myself.

before i knew what emotional labour meant, i watched women carry entire families on their backs while being told they “didn’t do much.” before i knew what double standards were, i noticed that the same behaviour earned applause in men and criticism in women. before i understood objectification, i learned that my body would often enter a room before my mind did. before i knew what unpaid care work was, i saw mothers wake before sunrise and sleep long after everyone else, their sacrifices treated as obligations instead of extraordinary acts of love.

i was collecting evidence long before i knew it had a name.

i was a feminist before i could articulate why i was angry.

the anger wasn’t loud at first. it wasn’t dramatic. it was quiet, confusing, and deeply personal. it lived in every moment i was told to smile when i wanted to speak. it lived in every warning to “be careful” instead of every lesson teaching boys to be better. it lived in every conversation where women were expected to be understanding, forgiving, accommodating, patient, nurturing, selfless, and endlessly available while men were allowed the freedom to simply exist.

i couldn’t explain why those moments stayed with me. i only knew they did.

my anger wasn’t born from hating men. it was born from loving fairness.

it came from watching brilliant women doubt themselves because confidence had been mistaken for arrogance. it came from seeing girls apologise for taking up space while boys were taught to occupy it without question. it came from hearing women described as “too emotional” by people whose own anger had always been accepted as strength.

my anger wasn’t irrational.it was accumulated.

it was built one comment at a time. one interruption at a time. one expectation at a time. one dismissal at a time.

people often imagine that feminism begins with one defining moment, one terrible experience, one dramatic awakening.

for many of us, it doesn’t.

it begins with patterns.

it begins with noticing.

it begins with asking why.

why does my freedom have conditions?

why does respect seem conditional for women but automatic for men?

why are girls taught to protect themselves instead of boys being taught not to harm?

why are women’s ambitions negotiable while men’s ambitions are assumed?

why is a woman expected to carry grace through disrespect while a man’s frustration is treated as understandable?

those questions existed inside me long before i knew millions of women had been asking them for generations.

i was a feminist even before social media existed to tell me i should be.

my convictions weren’t downloaded.

they weren’t trending.

they weren’t hashtags.

they weren’t borrowed opinions dressed up as original thoughts.

social media may have introduced me to language, communities, and perspectives that helped sharpen what i already believed, but it did not create the belief itself.

it simply gave words to feelings that had existed for years.

there is a convenient narrative that feminism is something young women catch online, as though it were a virus rather than a conclusion reached through observation. it is easier for some people to believe that women have been influenced than to admit that women have been paying attention.

because if our beliefs are organic, then our experiences must also be real.

and that is far more uncomfortable.

i refuse to let anyone rewrite my story as though an algorithm taught me to value myself.

i learned my worth every time someone tried to convince me i had less of it.

i learned equality every time i experienced inequality.

i learned feminism from reality before i ever learned it from books.

being a feminist has never meant believing women are flawless.

women can be wrong.

women can be cruel.

women can abuse power.

women are human.

feminism has never asked us to pretend otherwise.

what it asks is far more reasonable.

it asks us to recognise that humanity should not be rationed according to gender.

that women deserve autonomy without permission.

that respect should not depend on obedience.

that opportunities should not depend on stereotypes.

that safety should not be treated as a privilege.

that dignity should not have to be earned through perfection.

i have been called dramatic for expecting equality.

too sensitive for refusing disrespect.

too ambitious for wanting independence.

too outspoken for refusing silence.

interesting how confidence becomes threatening only when it belongs to a woman.

i have watched people misunderstand feminism so deliberately that i sometimes wonder whether they fear the truth more than the word itself.

because feminism asks uncomfortable questions.

who benefits when women doubt themselves?

who profits from unpaid labour?

who gains when girls are taught compliance before confidence?

who loses when women’s voices are dismissed before they are heard?

these are not dangerous questions.

they are necessary ones.

and every society that claims to value justice should be willing to answer them honestly.

my feminism is not built on resentment.

it is built on hope.

hope that girls will grow up believing their intelligence matters as much as their appearance.

hope that boys will grow up understanding that vulnerability does not diminish masculinity.

hope that partnerships will be built on mutual respect instead of inherited expectations.

hope that future generations will inherit fewer limitations than the ones we accepted.

i don’t want women to dominate men.

i want domination itself to become obsolete.

i don’t want special treatment.

i want equal treatment.

i don’t want women placed on pedestals.

pedestals are simply prettier prisons.

i want women standing on the same ground as everyone else.

when i say i was a feminist before i knew the word, i am saying that justice often begins as instinct before it becomes ideology.

children notice unfairness long before they learn political language.

they notice who gets interrupted.

who gets believed.

who gets forgiven.

who gets protected.

who gets opportunities.

who gets freedom.

they may not know the terminology, but they know the feeling.

so yes, i was a feminist before i knew what feminism was.

before i could define it.

before i could defend it.

before i could explain it.

because some truths do not arrive through education.

they arrive through living.

through watching.

through surviving.

through refusing to accept that inequality is simply the natural order of things.

my feminism was never a trend.

it was recognition.

it was never rebellion for the sake of rebellion.

it was resistance against injustice.

it was never hatred.

it was love.

love for women who deserved more than they were given.

love for girls who deserved to dream without limitation.

love for boys who deserved healthier definitions of strength.

love for a future where no child has to spend years feeling that something is unfair before finally discovering there was a word for what they had always known.

i was a feminist long before i knew the language.💌

i’ve never loved anyone the way that i love you and that will certainly be the end of me 🧎

i saw roots.

becoming part of who i am.

and maybe that’s why moving on has never been as simple as people make it sound.

because how do you move on from someone who became woven into the fabric of your heart?

how do you stop loving someone who feels familiar to your soul?

how do you teach yourself not to miss someone who still feels like home?

i don’t have to be.

but i’m not.

because when i saw you, my heart recognized you before my mind had the chance to defend itself.

because when i saw you, every wall i built deny.

that seeing you again felt like reopening a wound i never allowed to heal completely.

that i left with your face lingering in my mind.

that i came home missing you more than before.

that despite everything, despite time, despite distance, despite reason itself

i’ve never loved anyone the way that i love you.

and that is both the most beautiful and the answers.

all i know is that i saw you again.

and now i’m lying awake at night writing words you’ll probably never read.

trying to make sense of feelings i should have outgrown.

trying to understand why my heart still chooses you after everything.

trying not to admit that if you looked at me and asked me to stay, i probably would.

isn’t that pathetic?

maybe.

but it’s honest.

and honesty is all i have left.

so here’s the truth.

i’m not over you.

i wanted to be.

God knows i wanted to be.

but i’m not.

because when i saw you, my heart recognized you before my mind had the chance to defend itself.

because when i saw you, every wall i built collapsed.

because when i saw you, i remembered that no matter how much time passes, there will always be a version of me that loves you.

a version of me that wonders.

a version of me that hopes.

a version of me that misses you.

and maybe that’s the saddest part.

not that i still love you.

but that i don’t know how not to.

so i’ll carry it quietly.

the way i’ve always carried it.

i’ll smile when i’m supposed to.

i’ll move forward because life demands it.

i’ll keep pretending that my heart isn’t still looking for you in crowded rooms.

but tonight, just for tonight, i’ll stop pretending.

tonight i’ll admit what i’ve been trying so hard to deny.

that seeing you again felt like reopening a wound i never allowed to heal completely.

that i left with your face lingering in my mind.

that i came home missing you more than before.

that despite everything, despite time, despite distance, despite reason itself

i’ve never loved anyone the way that i love you.

and that is both the most beautiful and the most heartbreaking thing i have ever known.💌

this ends here!

there are some goodbyes that happen in an length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

there are some goodbyes that happen in an instant.

a fight. a betrayal. a harsh word spoken in anger.

and then there are goodbyes like this one.

the kind that take years to arrive.

the kind that form quietly in the spaces between unanswered messages, unreturned effort, forgotten conversations, and the slow realization that you are carrying a friendship on your back while the other person simply walks alongside when it’s convenient.

this is one of those goodbyes.

we’ve been friends since high school.

we’ve watched each other grow through different stages of life. we survived exams, heartbreaks, family issues, uncertainty about the future, and all the awkward years that come with trying to figure out who you are. some of my favorite memories have your name attached to them. some of the moments i laughed the hardest, cried the most, and felt the most understood happened because you were there.

and maybe that’s what makes this so difficult.

because when i look back, i don’t see a bad person.

i see someone i genuinely cared about.

someone i considered family.

someone i believed would be in my life for a very long time.

but no matter how beautiful a friendship once was, there comes a point where memories can no longer compensate for reality.

and the reality is this:

i am tired.

tired of always being the one to reach out first.

tired of checking in.

tired of making plans.

tired of carrying conversations.

tired of making excuses for behavior that continues to hurt me.

tired of convincing myself that things will eventually go back to how they used to be.

because the truth is, friendships are not supposed to feel this heavy.

they’re not supposed to feel like obligations.

they’re not supposed to make one person question their worth while the other barely notices the distance growing between them.

for a long time, i ignored what i was feeling.

i told myself you were busy.

i told myself life was difficult.

i told myself everyone expresses friendship differently.

and while all of those things may be true, they stopped being enough to explain why i felt so alone in a friendship that was supposed to involve two people.

i noticed how quickly i would respond to your messages, yet how long i would wait for yours.

i noticed how much effort i put into remembering details about your life while feeling like mine barely registered.

i noticed how often i showed up for you and how rarely i felt you showed up for me in the same way.

most importantly, i noticed how often i felt disappointed.

not because i expected perfection.

not because i expected constant attention.

but because i expected reciprocity.

i expected effort.

i expected care.

the bare minimum things that keep any relationship alive.

over time, i realized something painful:

i was mourning a friendship that technically still existed.

i was grieving someone who hadn’t actually left, but who no longer seemed present.

i kept holding on to the version of us that lived in my memories while ignoring the version of us that existed right in front of me.

and those two versions were no longer the same.

the friendship i remembered felt mutual.

the friendship i was experiencing felt one-sided.

the friendship i remembered made me feel valued.

the friendship i was experiencing made me feel optional.

that realization broke my heart more than i expected.

because i never wanted to lose you.

i never wanted things to end like this.

i wanted us to grow together.

i wanted us to remain close despite adulthood pulling us in different directions.

i wanted the effort i gave to be matched.

i wanted to feel chosen the way i continuously chose you.

but wanting something doesn’t make it real.

and i’ve spent far too long trying to save a friendship that only one person seems committed to maintaining.

friendship requires two people.

not one.

no amount of loyalty can compensate for a lack of mutual effort.

no amount of patience can build a bridge when only one person is laying down the planks.

no amount of love can sustain a connection that isn’t being nurtured from both sides.

i understand now that relationships don’t always end because someone did something terrible.

sometimes they end because one person keeps pouring while the other keeps taking.

sometimes they end because silence says what words never could.

sometimes they end because the imbalance becomes impossible to ignore.

and that’s where i find myself today.

not angry.

not bitter.

just exhausted.

i have reached a point where i can no longer sacrifice my peace to preserve a connection that no longer feels reciprocal.

i can no longer beg for the effort that should come naturally.

i can no longer keep proving my loyalty in hopes that one day it will be returned in equal measure.

i deserve friendships that feel mutual.

i deserve friendships where my presence is appreciated rather than expected.

i deserve friendships where i don’t constantly wonder if the other person cares as much as i do.

and so, as painful as it is, i am choosing to let go.

not because i hate you.

not because our memories mean nothing.

not because i wish you harm.

in fact, quite the opposite.

i will always be grateful for what our friendship once was.

i will always appreciate the role you played in my life.

i will always remember the laughter, the conversations, the inside jokes, and the countless moments that made our friendship special.

those things mattered.

you mattered.

but gratitude for the past should never become a prison that keeps me trapped in the present.

i cannot continue holding on to what was while ignoring what is.

and what is, simply isn’t enough anymore.

maybe you’ll read this and disagree.

maybe you’ll feel blindsided.

maybe you’ll think i should have spoken sooner.

maybe you’re right.

but i think deep down, people know when someone has been carrying more than their share for a very long time.

people know when they’ve stopped showing up.

people know when they’ve become comfortable receiving effort they no longer give.

whether intentionally or unintentionally, that’s what happened here.

and now i am finally accepting it.

this isn’t an attempt to make you feel guilty.

this isn’t a list of accusations.

this isn’t revenge.

this is closure.

for the countless times i questioned myself.

for the countless times i wondered if i was asking for too much.

for the countless times i felt unseen but convinced myself to stay.

this is me choosing myself.

this is me accepting that not every friendship is meant to last forever.

this is me understanding that sometimes loving someone means letting them go instead of continuously chasing them.

and so, this ends here.

not the memories.

not the lessons.

not the gratitude.

just the expectation.

the effort.

the waiting.

the hoping.

the carrying.

i’m putting all of it down.

i sincerely hope life treats you well.

i hope you achieve your goals.

i hope you find happiness.

i hope you are surrounded by people who love and support you.

and i hope one day you understand why i had to make this decision.

as for me, i am choosing peace.

i am choosing relationships that feel mutual.

i am choosing spaces where my effort is returned and my presence is valued.

most of all, i am choosing to stop fighting for a place in someone’s life when they are no longer fighting for a place in mine.

we had our chapter.

it was beautiful while it lasted.

but every story reaches its final page.

and this, at last, is ours.💌

i wanted length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

i wanted him so bad—I left him alone

there are some people life introduces to you with no warning. no dramatic entrance. no loud announcement. they simply exist beside you long enough for your heart to notice them before your mind ever does.

that was him.

an office fling sounds so small when you say it out loud. almost temporary. almost careless. people hear the phrase and imagine passing attraction, harmless tension wrapped in lunch breaks and shared elevators. they imagine something playful, forgettable, maybe even reckless.

but what they rarely understand is that sometimes the most devastating feelings grow in the quietest places.

sometimes heartbreak does not begin with love letters or promises.

sometimes it begins with routine.

it began with ordinary things.

the sound of his footsteps approaching before i even looked up.

the way conversations somehow became easier when he was around.

the accidental moments that slowly stopped feeling accidental.

there was never a grand confession between us.okay maybe there was

it happened gradually.

dangerously.

softly.

and maybe that is why it hurt the way it did.

because nothing loud prepared me for something so consuming.

i wanted him in the kind of way people rarely admit out loud.

not just physically.

not just romantically.

i wanted his attention.

his presence.

the feeling of being seen by him.

and maybe that is the part that unsettled me most.

because wanting someone is one thing.

but wanting the version of yourself that appears when they look at you…that is something entirely different.

the office became strange after that.

familiar but unfamiliar.

suddenly every morning carried invisible anticipation.

i found myself noticing things i had no business noticing.

what time he arrived.

which mood he carried that day.

whether he looked tired or distracted.

whether he smiled longer than usual when speaking to me.

whether i mattered to him even half as much as he had begun to matter to me.

it sounds foolish when reduced to words.

but emotions are rarely logical.

they do not ask permission before taking space.

and mine certainly did not.

there was tension between us.

not the loud kind.

not dramatic enough to scandalize anyone.

just enough to exist beneath conversations.

beneath glances.

beneath the spaces we pretended not to notice.

sometimes it lived inside silence.

those dangerous moments where nothing inappropriate was said and yet everything felt charged.

people often talk about chemistry like fireworks.

i disagree.

real chemistry feels quieter.

it feels like restraint.

like trying not to read too deeply into kindness.

like pretending your pulse remains normal when someone stands too close.

and maybe that was our tragedy.

we never became something official enough to define.

yet we became something difficult enough to survive.

i do not know if he knew the extent of what i felt.

maybe he did.

maybe he did not.

sometimes i replay our interactions and wonder if i imagined the softness.

wonder if i stitched meaning into moments simply because i needed them to mean something.

that is the painful thing about almost-connections.

they leave room for interpretation.

room for doubt.

room for self-inflicted questions.

did he feel it too?

was i simply convenient?

did i misunderstand everything?

or were we both standing on opposite sides of the same fear?

i do not know.

and maybe i never will.

what i do know is that wanting him began to exhaust me.

not because he was cruel.

not because he hurt me intentionally.

but because carrying feelings you cannot fully claim becomes heavy after a while.

there is something deeply lonely about wanting someone you must act normal around.

all while your heart behaves like it belongs somewhere else entirely.

it is exhausting pretending your feelings are smaller than they are.

and i became tired.

tired of wondering.

tired of hoping.

tired of searching for certainty in gestures never meant to provide it.

sometimes people imagine that walking away means anger.

that leaving someone alone must come from resentment or rejection.

but my truth was different.

i left him alone because i wanted him too much.

and that kind of wanting frightened me.

not because desire itself is shameful.

but because i recognized how easily i could disappear inside it.

there is a dangerous line between affection and emotional dependence.

between admiration and self-abandonment.

and somewhere along the way, i began sensing that line.

i realized i was waiting too much.

thinking too much.

investing too much emotional energy into something that lived mostly in uncertainty.

that realization broke my heart.

because nobody prepares you for the grief of leaving something that never fully belonged to you.

people understand breakups.

they understand betrayal.

they understand endings with evidence.

but what language exists for mourning possibility?

what name do you give to grief that grows from imagination, restraint, and almost?

that kind of loss becomes private.

invisible.

you mourn without ceremony.

without witnesses.

without validation.

and i did mourn him.

maybe not the man himself entirely.

but the version of us i carried quietly in my mind.

the conversations that never happened.

the closeness that remained suspended between reality and fantasy.

the possibility that maybe, under different circumstances, we could have been something more.

that possibility haunted me.

because hope can be beautiful.

but prolonged hope can also become cruel.

especially when it survives without direction.

there were days i convinced myself distance was unnecessary.

that i was overthinking.

that i could manage my emotions and continue as though nothing had changed.

but feelings do not disappear simply because we discipline them.

they become quieter.

sometimes heavier.

and i eventually understood something difficult:

loving or wanting someone does not automatically mean staying close to them is healthy.

that truth hurt.

because part of me wanted permission to remain exactly where i was.

to keep orbiting around possibility.

to keep collecting small moments and calling them enough.

but another part of me—perhaps the wiser part—recognized what was happening.

i was settling for emotional crumbs while secretly starving for clarity.

and that is not love.

that is survival disguised as attachment.

so i chose distance.

not dramatically.

not vindictively.

just quietly.

i stopped feeding the fantasy.

stopped searching for meaning where there was none clearly offered.

stopped allowing anticipation to control my emotional weather.

and yes—

it hurt.

more than i expected.

because leaving him alone felt less like empowerment and more like grief.

i missed things i could not explain to anyone.

the normalcy.

the familiarity.

the possibility.

i missed who i was around him.

and that is perhaps the hardest confession.

sometimes we do not miss people alone.

we miss the version of ourselves that existed beside them.

the softer version.

the emotionally awake version.

for a while, i questioned myself.

wondered if i had overreacted.

wondered if i should have stayed.

wondered if i had abandoned something meaningful before giving it room to grow.

those thoughts visited often.

late at night.

during quiet moments.

in unexpected flashes.

because the heart bargains with loss before accepting it.

it negotiates.

rewrites history.

creates alternate endings.

but eventually clarity arrived.

not dramatically.

just honestly.

and clarity told me something i had been avoiding:

sometimes choosing yourself feels indifferent from heartbreak.

sometimes protecting your peace does not feel empowering at first.

sometimes the healthiest decision still leaves tears behind.

because leaving someone alone when you still want them—that is not indifference.

that is discipline.

that is self-respect fighting desire.

that is emotional maturity struggling against longing.

and i carry no hatred toward him.

none.

life is more complicated than villains and victims.

he was simply someone i met during a chapter where my emotions outran my circumstances.

someone who awakened feelings i was not fully prepared to carry.

someone who taught me how intense unspoken connection can become.

and maybe he never knew.

or maybe he knew enough.

either way, i no longer need answers the way i once did.

because time has softened certain wounds.

not erased them.

just softened them.

i can now admit something without shame:

i wanted him.

deeply.

genuinely.

more than i probably should have.

but wanting someone is not failure.

the real lesson lived elsewhere.

in realizing that desire alone cannot sustain emotional wellbeing.

that chemistry without clarity becomes confusion.

that almost-love can be beautiful and painful in equal measure.

and perhaps most importantly

that walking away is not always surrender.

sometimes it is mercy.

mercy toward your own heart.

so yes.

i wanted him so bad

i left him alone.

not because i felt nothing.

but because i felt too much.

and somewhere beneath the ache, beneath the unanswered questions and unfinished possibilities, i chose myself.

that choice hurt.

but it saved me too.💌🤍

the morality of men length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

there is a particular kind of morality that many men carry around like a performance. it sounds polished when spoken aloud, strict when directed at women, and righteous when defended in public spaces. but the moment those same standards are expected of men themselves, they suddenly become flexible, negotiable, or entirely irrelevant. for generations, women have been told how to sit, how to dress, how to love, how to speak, how to age, how to desire, and even how to grieve, all under the banner of “morality.” yet the people enforcing these rules often do not live by them. that is the contradiction. that is the hypocrisy. and perhaps that is why it feels like the morality of men often ends on their lips.

society has always been more comfortable controlling women than correcting men. a woman’s body, choices, and freedom are constantly treated as public discussions. everyone has an opinion about what a woman should be. if she is too loud, she lacks decency. if she is too quiet, she lacks confidence. if she dresses modestly, she is praised until she speaks too boldly. if she dresses freely, she is accused of seeking attention. no matter what she chooses, someone is waiting to explain why she is wrong.

meanwhile, men are granted the luxury of complexity. they are allowed mistakes. they are allowed growth. they are allowed to be “works in progress.” society bends over backwards to humanize men while reducing women to standards.

a man can openly disrespect women yet demand a “good woman” for marriage. he can cheat repeatedly but still expect loyalty from his partner. he can mock women for having multiple partners while proudly celebrating his own experiences. he can disappear emotionally, fail to communicate, avoid accountability, and still expect softness, patience, and understanding from the women around him. somehow, the burden of morality always lands heavier on women’s shoulders.

this double standard appears everywhere. in relationships, women are expected to forgive endlessly because “men are naturally like that.” women are told to endure emotional neglect, infidelity, dishonesty, and inconsistency because keeping a relationship together is seen as part of womanhood. when men fail in relationships, people ask what the woman did wrong. was she too demanding? too emotional? too independent? too difficult? women are taught to internalize blame for things men consciously choose to do.

yet when women begin demanding respect, reciprocity, and honesty, they are suddenly labeled difficult. a woman with standards becomes intimidating. a woman who leaves disrespect behind is called proud. a woman who prioritizes herself is accused of selfishness. men often admire confidence in theory, but many become uncomfortable when women actually exercise it.

morality, as preached by many men, often has less to do with virtue and more to do with control. the issue is not always whether a woman is doing something wrong. the issue is whether she is behaving in a way men can comfortably control, predict, or benefit from.

consider the way society reacts to female sexuality compared to male sexuality. men are encouraged to explore. boys grow up hearing phrases that excuse reckless behavior with laughter and pride. experience becomes proof of masculinity. but women are expected to remain untouched, restrained, and pure. a sexually expressive woman is still judged far more harshly than a sexually expressive man. the same act that earns a man praise can earn a woman shame.

what makes this hypocrisy even more frustrating is that many of the same men enforcing these standards actively pursue the very women they publicly criticize. they desire women in private that they condemn in public. they consume the content, attention, beauty, and emotional labor of women they claim are “immoral.” they participate in systems they pretend to stand against. again, the morality ends in the lips.

religion and culture are often used as tools to reinforce these expectations. women are constantly reminded to preserve dignity, honor families, protect reputations, and avoid bringing shame. little boys are rarely raised with the same intensity of moral instruction. girls are trained to carry responsibility for everyone’s comfort while boys are taught entitlement disguised as freedom.

from a young age, many women learn that survival sometimes means shrinking themselves. they learn to smile when uncomfortable, stay quiet when hurt, and remain desirable without appearing too aware of their desirability. they are expected to balance impossible contradictions every day. be attractive but not too attractive. ambitious but not intimidating. independent but still dependent enough to make men feel needed. experienced enough to please men but innocent enough to be respected by them.

it is exhausting.

and perhaps one of the cruelest parts of all this is how often women are encouraged to police each other. patriarchal standards survive not only because men enforce them, but because women are sometimes pressured into defending them too. generations of women have inherited fear disguised as wisdom. they repeat harmful ideas because they were taught those ideas protected them. “don’t dress like that.” “don’t speak too loudly.” “men don’t like women who act that way.” beneath many of these statements is the quiet understanding that women are punished for freedom in ways men are not.

still, despite all these pressures, women continue to evolve. more women are questioning the systems that taught them their value depended on obedience. more women are rejecting the idea that morality should only apply to them while men move through life unrestricted. women are realizing that respectability has never guaranteed protection anyway. countless women have followed every rule and still experienced betrayal, violence, humiliation, or abandonment. morality was never truly about protecting women. often, it was about controlling them.

that realization changes everything.

because once women stop living solely for approval, the entire structure begins to shake. men who are accustomed to unquestioned authority suddenly feel threatened by women with boundaries. men who benefited from silence become uncomfortable with honesty. men who enjoyed being centered in every narrative struggle when women begin centering themselves instead.

this does not mean all men are cruel or hypocritical. there are men who genuinely practice the values they preach. men who understand accountability, emotional intelligence, and fairness. men who do not see normalized that people no longer recognize them as unfair.

real morality is not selective. it cannot demand purity from women while excusing recklessness in men. it cannot preach respect while are not projects for society to manage. they are not moral report cards for families, cultures, or religions. they are human beings.

and maybe that is what unsettles some men most of all. imbalance at the center of so many social expectations.

the truth is simple. morality that only controls women is not morality. it is power dressed up as virtue. it is hypocrisy made socially acceptable through repetition.

and perhaps that is why so many women are tired. not because they reject morality itself, but because they are exhausted from carrying standards that were never equally shared. they are tired of being told to become smaller, quieter, softer, purer, easier, and more acceptable while men are rarely asked to confront themselves with the same intensity.

women deserve the freedom to exist beyond the narrow definitions imposed on them. they deserve room to be flawed, complex, emotional, ambitious, sensual, uncertain, loud, healing, growing, and entirely human without their worth constantly being debated.

because morality should never exist only in words. if it cannot survive in action, accountability, and equality, then it was never morality at all.the morality of men ends in the lips

there is a particular kind of morality that many men carry around like a performance. it sounds polished when spoken aloud, strict when directed at women, and righteous when defended in public spaces. but the moment those same standards are expected of men themselves, they suddenly become flexible, negotiable, or entirely irrelevant. for generations, women have been told how to sit, how to dress, how to love, how to speak, how to age, how to desire, and even how to grieve, all under the banner of “morality.” yet the people enforcing these rules often do not live by them. that is the contradiction. that is the hypocrisy. and perhaps that is why it feels like the morality of men often ends in the lips.

society has always been more comfortable controlling women than correcting men. a woman’s body, choices, and freedom are constantly treated as public discussions. everyone has an opinion about what a woman should be. if she is too loud, she lacks decency. if she is too quiet, she lacks confidence. if she dresses modestly, she is praised until she speaks too boldly. if she dresses freely, she is accused of seeking attention. no matter what she chooses, someone is waiting to explain why she is wrong.

meanwhile, men are granted the luxury of complexity. they are allowed mistakes. they are allowed growth. they are allowed to be “works in progress.” society bends over backwards to humanize men while reducing women to standards.

a man can openly disrespect women yet demand a “good woman” for marriage. he can cheat repeatedly but still expect loyalty from his partner. he can mock women for having multiple partners while proudly celebrating his own experiences. he can disappear emotionally, fail to communicate, avoid accountability, and still expect softness, patience, and understanding from the women around him. somehow, the burden of morality always lands heavier on women’s shoulders.

this double standard appears everywhere. in relationships, women are expected to forgive endlessly because “men are naturally like that.” women are told to endure emotional neglect, infidelity, dishonesty, and inconsistency because keeping a relationship together is seen as part of womanhood. when men fail in relationships, people ask what the woman did wrong. was she too demanding? too emotional? too independent? too difficult? women are taught to internalize blame for things men consciously choose to do.

yet when women begin demanding respect, reciprocity, and honesty, they are suddenly labeled difficult. a woman with standards becomes intimidating. a woman who leaves disrespect behind is called proud. a woman who prioritizes herself is accused of selfishness. men often admire confidence in theory, but many become uncomfortable when women actually exercise it.

morality, as preached by many men, often has less to do with virtue and more to do with control. the issue is not always whether a woman is doing something wrong. the issue is whether she is behaving in a way men can comfortably control, predict, or benefit from.

consider the way society reacts to female sexuality compared to male sexuality. men are encouraged to explore. boys grow up hearing phrases that excuse reckless behavior with laughter and pride. experience becomes proof of masculinity. but women are expected to remain untouched, restrained, and pure. a sexually expressive woman is still judged far more harshly than a sexually expressive man. the same act that earns a man praise can earn a woman shame.

what makes this hypocrisy even more frustrating is that many of the same men enforcing these standards actively pursue the very women they publicly criticize. they desire women in private that they condemn in public. they consume the content, attention, beauty, and emotional labor of women they claim are “immoral.” they participate in systems they pretend to stand against. again, the morality ends in the lips.

religion and culture are often used as tools to reinforce these expectations. women are constantly reminded to preserve dignity, honor families, protect reputations, and avoid bringing shame. little boys are rarely raised with the same intensity of moral instruction. girls are trained to carry responsibility for everyone’s comfort while boys are taught entitlement disguised as freedom.

from a young age, many women learn that survival sometimes means shrinking themselves. they learn to smile when uncomfortable, stay quiet when hurt, and remain desirable without appearing too aware of their desirability. they are expected to balance impossible contradictions every day. be attractive but not too attractive. ambitious but not intimidating. independent but still dependent enough to make men feel needed. experienced enough to please men but innocent enough to be respected by them.

it is exhausting.

and perhaps one of the cruelest parts of all this is how often women are encouraged to police each other. patriarchal standards survive not only because men enforce them, but because women are sometimes pressured into defending them too. generations of women have inherited fear disguised as wisdom. they repeat harmful ideas because they were taught those ideas protected them. “don’t dress like that.” “don’t speak too loudly.” “men don’t like women who act that way.” beneath many of these statements is the quiet understanding that women are punished for freedom in ways men are not.

still, despite all these pressures, women continue to evolve. more women are questioning the systems that taught them their value depended on obedience. more women are rejecting the idea that morality should only apply to them while men move through life unrestricted. women are realizing that respectability has never guaranteed protection anyway. countless women have followed every rule and still experienced betrayal, violence, humiliation, or abandonment. morality was never truly about protecting women. often, it was about controlling them.

that realization changes everything.

because once women stop living solely for approval, the entire structure begins to shake. men who are accustomed to unquestioned authority suddenly feel threatened by women with boundaries. men who benefited from silence become uncomfortable with honesty. men who enjoyed being centered in every narrative struggle when women begin centering themselves instead.

this does length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

there are people who walk through life gently, untouched by storms, protected by soft landings and easy mornings. and then there are people like my mother…people who become strength because life never gave them the option to be anything else. my mother is the strongest person i know, not because she talks loudly about pain or wears suffering like a badge, but because she has survived things that would have broken most people and still somehow wakes up every morning with kindness in her heart.

i think that’s what amazes me the most about her. not just the fact that she endured so much, but the fact that life did not harden her beyond recognition. she still laughs. she still prays. she still hopes. she still believes tomorrow can be better even after yesterday gave her every reason to stop believing entirely.

sometimes i look at her and wonder how one person can carry so much weight without collapsing under it. i wonder how many tears she swallowed before entering a room so nobody would notice she had been crying. i wonder how many nights she stayed awake thinking about bills, responsibilities, disappointments, heartbreak, and uncertainty while the rest of us slept peacefully, unaware that her mind was at war. i wonder how many times she chose everybody else before herself because that is simply the kind of woman she is.

my mother has sacrificed in ways that words will never fully explain. and the painful thing about sacrifice is that the world rarely notices it while it is happening. people only see the final result. they see children growing, food appearing, problems being solved, uniforms washed, fees paid, and life somehow moving forward. but they do not see the exhaustion behind it. they do not see the silent suffering it takes to hold an entire family together with bare hands and faith alone.

there were days she had every right to give up. days when life must have felt unbearably unfair. days when she probably questioned whether she had anything left inside her to keep going. but somehow, she kept moving. somehow, she continued showing up. somehow, she kept choosing love even when life was cruel to her.

and i think that is the purest form of strength there is.

because strength is not pretending pain does not exist. strength is carrying pain and still choosing to love people gently. strength is being disappointed by life and still finding reasons to smile. strength is being tired to your bones but waking up anyway because people depend on you. strength is crying in private and still comforting others in public. that is my mother.

she has been through things i can probably never fully understand. there are battles she fought silently so her children would never feel the full impact of the storm. there are wounds she hides so well that sometimes people mistake her resilience for invincibility. but i know better. i know strong people still hurt. i know strong women still get tired. i know even the strongest hearts need rest.

that is why one of the biggest dreams i carry in my chest is the dream of giving my mother ease.

real ease.

the kind where she no longer has to overthink every little expense. the kind where she can sleep peacefully without carrying the burden of everyone’s survival on her shoulders. the kind where she can finally breathe deeply without anxiety sitting in her chest like a permanent resident. i want to give her soft days after a lifetime of hard ones. i want her to experience the kind of peace she has spent years creating for everybody else.

sometimes i sit and imagine the future. i imagine her smiling freely without hidden stress behind it. i imagine telling her she does not need to worry anymore. i imagine taking responsibilities off her shoulders one by one until she finally understands that she can rest now. i imagine spoiling her in quiet ways that heal the parts of her life that were filled with struggle. and honestly, nothing motivates me more than that vision.

because when you grow up watching your mother struggle and still remain good-hearted, something changes inside you forever. you stop wanting success just for yourself. your dreams stop being selfish. every achievement begins to carry her name too. every goal becomes connected to the desire to make her life softer.

people always talk about mothers as though they are naturally built to withstand pain, but i do not think enough people acknowledge how heartbreaking that reality is. mothers are human beings first. they feel disappointment deeply. they get overwhelmed. they break silently. they worry constantly. they carry fears they never speak about because they do not want to burden anyone else. yet somehow, society expects them to continue functioning perfectly through all of it.

my mother did.

she carried responsibilities that should have been shared. she stayed strong in moments where she deserved to fall apart. she continued nurturing people even while emotionally exhausted herself. and still, despite everything life handed her, she remained positive. that part alone feels almost unreal to me sometimes.

because bitterness would have been easier.

anger would have been understandable.

giving up would have made sense.

but my mother kept believing in life. she kept believing better days would come. she kept believing her sacrifices would mean something eventually. and every time i think about that, i feel emotional because i know positivity is not always natural after suffering. sometimes positivity is a conscious decision people make despite pain. sometimes optimism is bravery.

my mother is brave in ways the world may never applaud loudly enough.

i wish she could see herself through my eyes for just one moment. maybe then she would understand how extraordinary she truly is. maybe then she would realize that surviving everything she survived without losing her humanity is one of the rarest things a person can do. maybe then she would stop doubting herself on difficult days.

there are so many things i want to thank her for.

for every sacrifice she made quietly.

for every prayer she whispered over me.

for every moment she chose strength because she had no other option.

for every time she hid her pain to protect us.

for every dream she postponed so ours could survive.

for every burden she carried alone.

for every ounce of love she gave even when life drained her completely.

i do not think children ever fully understand their mothers while growing up. as kids, we only see outcomes. we do not understand the process behind them. we do not understand the pressure, fear, exhaustion, and emotional labor that goes into motherhood. but as i grow older, i notice more. i understand more. and honestly, it breaks my heart sometimes.

because i now realize my mother was surviving while trying to make our lives feel normal.

and that is one of the most selfless things a person can do.

there are memories that replay in my mind often. little moments that probably seemed ordinary at the time but now carry so much meaning. the way she would still make things happen even when circumstances were difficult. the way she would encourage everyone else despite carrying her own worries. the way she kept the family emotionally afloat even when she herself needed saving too.

mothers like mine deserve the world.

not flowers once a year.

not occasional appreciation.

not empty words.

they deserve genuine rest. genuine happiness. genuine care.

they deserve to be loved loudly after spending years loving everybody else quietly.

and one day, i swear i will give my mother that life.

i will work until her struggles become distant memories instead of daily realities. i will make sure she experiences softness after years of survival mode. i will remind her every chance i get that she no longer has to carry everything alone. i want to become the kind of person who finally allows her to exhale fully.

because she deserves ease.

she deserves mornings without stress.

she deserves joy without guilt.

she deserves peace without interruption.

she deserves comfort she did not have to suffer for first.

my mother taught me resilience without even trying to. watching her survive shaped the way i see strength entirely. before her, i thought strength meant never crying, never struggling, never breaking. but my mother showed me that real strength is continuing despite all those things. real strength is feeling pain deeply and still moving forward with grace.

and although i hate that life hurt her so much, i admire the woman she became because of it. not because suffering is beautiful, but because the way she survived it is.

there is something deeply emotional about loving someone who has spent most of their life carrying heavy things. you start noticing how tired they are beneath the smiles. you notice the moments where they pause just a little too long. you notice the emotional exhaustion hidden behind normal conversations. and sometimes all you want is to take the pain away from them entirely.

that is how i feel about my mother.

if i could rewrite parts of her life, i would. if i could go back and protect her from every heartbreak, every disappointment, every moment she felt alone, i would do it instantly. but since i cannot, the only thing i can do is promise myself that her future will not resemble her past forever.

she will rest someday.

she will smile freely someday.

she will feel cared for someday.

and i pray i get to be the reason for some of that happiness.

i think one of the saddest things about strong women is that people assume they do not need love poured back into them because they seem capable of handling everything alone. but strong women need softness too. they need reassurance too. they need support too. my mother has spent so much of her life being the support system for others that i cannot wait for the day life finally supports her back.

she deserves to experience what it feels like not to constantly worry.

and until then, i will keep pushing for her.

every late night.

every sacrifice.

every prayer.

every dream i chase.

there is a part of me doing it for her.

because i want her to witness the rewards of her suffering while she is still here to enjoy them. i want her to sit in peace and realize that none of her sacrifices were in vain. i want her to know that her strength built something meaningful. that her love shaped lives. that her perseverance mattered.

my mother may never fully understand how much she means to me because some feelings are too deep for ordinary conversation. how do you explain to someone that they became your definition of courage? how do you explain that their existence alone motivates you to keep going? how do you explain that watching them survive made you believe survival was possible too?

she is more than my mother.

she is proof that people can endure unimaginable things and still remain loving. she is proof that kindness can survive hardship. she is proof that resilience is not always loud. sometimes resilience looks like a woman waking up every day and continuing anyway.

and honestly, i hope life becomes gentler with her from now on. i hope happiness finds her in unexpected ways. i hope she laughs more than she worries. i hope she receives the same love she gives people so effortlessly. i hope life finally rewards her softness instead of constantly testing it.

because if anyone deserves beautiful things after enduring difficult seasons, it is my mother.

i could go on and on but i just want you to know you’re loved, seen and cherished by me!!!

happy mother’s day mummy 🤍

and to the man i cherish the most!🤍🤍🤍

i always had you in it. and that alone has shaped everything about who i am.

when i think about life, i don’t picture it in isolated memories. i don’t see moments standing alone. i see you threaded through everything…every stage, every season, every version of me. you’ve never just been a part of my life. you’ve been a constant in it. something steady in a world that doesn’t always promise stability.

growing up if anyone told me i’d grow up to love you like i do now…i would have laughed in their face but life has a way of doing it thing

you’ve been my brother, yes…but that word feels too small sometimes. too ordinary for everything you’ve been to me.

because how do i reduce you to just “brother” when you’ve been my protector, my safe place, my quiet reassurance in moments i didn’t even know i needed it?

how do i put into one word the way you’ve shown up for me, consistently, without conditions, without hesitation?

i don’t think i can.

i think some people come into your life and change it in loud, obvious ways. and then there are people like you…people whose impact is so deeply woven into your existence that you don’t even realize how much they’ve shaped you until you stop and really look.

and when i stop and look, i see you everywhere.

i see you in the way i’ve learned to be strong, even when things feel uncertain.

i see you in the way i trust…carefully, but genuinely because you showed me what it looks like to be dependable.

i see you in the way i carry myself, knowing that no matter what happens, i am not alone in this world.

because i have you.

and that has always been enough to ground me.

there’s something about knowing you have someone in your corner…someone who doesn’t need to be asked, someone who doesn’t calculate whether you deserve their support, someone who just is there.

that’s what you’ve been for me.

not sometimes.

not when it’s convenient.

but always.

and i don’t think you fully understand what that has meant to me.

there were moments…ones i probably never even explained to you…where your presence alone carried me through. moments where i felt unsure of myself, unsure of life, unsure of everything, but somehow still felt safe because you existed in my world.

you’ve been that kind of constant.

the kind people spend their whole lives searching for.

and i was blessed with it from the beginning.

i don’t take that lightly.

i never have.

because i know not everyone gets this.

not everyone gets a brother who becomes their support system without making it feel like a burden.

not everyone gets someone who shows up with such ease, such consistency, such quiet strength.

but i did.

i got you.

and i thank God for that every single day.

not in a casual, passing way. but in a deep, intentional way. the kind of gratitude that sits in your chest and reminds you that some things in life are too meaningful to ever overlook.

you are one of those things.

you’ve been there in ways that go beyond what people see.

it’s not always about big gestures or dramatic moments. sometimes it’s in the smallest things..the way you check in, the way you notice when something is off, the way you make space for me without making me feel like i’m taking too much.

you’ve never made me feel like i had to earn your presence.

and that… that is rare.

you’ve allowed me to exist fully, without fear of being too much or not enough.

you’ve created a space where i can just be and that kind of space is something people spend years trying to find.

and i found it in you.

growing up, i don’t think i fully understood what it meant to have you. not because i didn’t appreciate you, but because you were always just there. constant. dependable. unshaken.

and when something is always there, you don’t always realize how valuable it is until you imagine life without it.

and i’ve tried to imagine that..what my life would look like without you.

and every time, it feels incomplete.

not in a dramatic way. not in a way that seeks attention or exaggeration. but in a quiet, undeniable way.

like something essential is missing.

because you are essential to me.

you are part of my foundation.

you are part of the reason i am who i am.

and i don’t think i would be this version of myself without you.

you’ve influenced me in ways you probably don’t even realize.

in the way you carry yourself.

in the way you handle things.

in the way you show up…not just for me, but for life.

you’ve shown me what it looks like to be dependable, to be strong without being loud about it, to be present in a world where people are often distracted.

and i’ve learned from that.

i’ve grown from that.

you’ve been someone i could look at and think, “this is what consistency looks like. this is what reliability feels like.”

and those things matter.

they matter more than people often admit.

because in a world where things are constantly changing, where people come and go, where promises are made and broken you’ve been steady.

you’ve been real.

you’ve been there.

and that has given me a sense of security that i carry with me everywhere.

it’s the kind of security that allows me to face life with a little more confidence, a little more courage.

because no matter what happens, i know i’m not facing it alone.

i have you.

and that thought alone has gotten me through more than you know.

i don’t always say it.

i don’t always express it in the moment.

i feel it in the way i pray for you.

because i do.

i pray for you not out of obligation, but out of genuine love and gratitude.

i pray that life gives you everything you deserve and more.

i pray that the same support you’ve given me comes back to you in ways that exceed your expectations.

i pray that you are surrounded by people who see you, who value you, who show up for you the way you’ve shown up for me.

because you deserve that.

you deserve ease.

you deserve joy.

you deserve a life that feels full and rewarding.

and i will always, always want that for you.

there’s something deeply comforting about knowing that no matter how life changes, no matter how much we grow, no matter where we go—

you will always be my brother.

that doesn’t change.

that doesn’t fade.

that doesn’t depend on circumstances.

it just is.

and i hold onto that with so much appreciation.

because relationships like this are not replaceable.

they’re not something you can recreate.

they’re not something you can find anywhere else.

they’re rare.

and they’re sacred.

and ours is one of them.

i don’t know what the future holds.

i don’t know where life will take us, what challenges we’ll face, what moments we’ll experience.

but i do know this

i can’t imagine doing any of it without you.

and i don’t want to.

because life, with you in it, feels more grounded. more meaningful. more real.

you’ve been my support system in ways that words will never fully capture.

and maybe that’s okay.

maybe some things are meant to be felt more than they are explained.

but i needed you to know this.

i needed you to understand, even just a little, how much you mean to me.

how much you’ve shaped my life.

how much i appreciate you…not just for what you do, but for who you are.

i’m glad you’re my brother.

not just because of what you’ve done for me, but because of the person you are.

and if i had the chance to choose, in any lifetime, in any version of this world

i would still choose you.

every single time.

thank you for being my constant.

thank you for being my support system.

thank you for being you.

i bless God for you, always.

happy birthday my brother!🤍🤍

until i find my person, i’ll be my length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

i didn’t always believe that. for a long time, i thought life would begin the moment someone chose me. i thought love was something that would arrive like an answer…like a missing piece finally clicking into place. i live in anticipation, in waiting rooms of my own making, convincing myself that everything i was would only matter once it was witnessed, once it was held, once it was loved by someone else.

but waiting has a way of exposing you.

it stretches time. it forces you to sit with yourself in ways you never intended. and in that stillness, i started to notice how much of me i had abandoned in the process of wanting to be chosen. how often i silenced my own needs just to feel wanted. how easily i bent, reshaped, softened myself into something more acceptable, more lovable, more convenient.

i was there for everyone else in ways i had never learned to be there for myself.

i knew how to comfort others, how to listen, how to show up, how to stay. but when it came to me, i was distant. critical. impatient. i expected perfection from a version of me that was still figuring things out, still learning how to exist without apologizing for it.

and then one day, it hit me

not loudly, not dramatically, but quietly, in the middle of an ordinary moment.

i was tired.

tired of waiting. tired of feeling like my life was on hold. tired of pouring into people who couldn’t pour back. tired of looking outward for something i had never tried to build within myself.

and that was the beginning.

not a transformation, not an overnight shift, but a decision.

a quiet, stubborn decision to start choosing myself.

at first, it felt unnatural. almost uncomfortable. like i was breaking some unspoken rule. i didn’t know what it meant to be my own person because i had spent so much time trying to be what i thought others needed me to be.

so i started small.

i started with the way i spoke to myself.

instead of tearing myself down over every mistake, i tried…slowly, imperfectly to be kinder. to remind myself that i am allowed to be a work in progress. that growth is not linear. that i don’t have to have everything figured out to be worthy of love, even if that love is coming from me.

i started paying attention to what i needed.

not what i thought i should need, not what looked good from the outside, but what genuinely made me feel at peace. i began to rest without guilt. to take breaks without feeling like i was falling behind. to nourish my body because i deserve care, not because i was trying to fix something.

i began to show up for myself in ways i had always wished someone else would.

i became the one who reassures me when i feel uncertain. the one who sits with me when i feel overwhelmed. the one who reminds me that i’ve made it through difficult moments before, and i will do it again.

it wasn’t easy.

there were days when loneliness crept in, heavy and undeniable. days when i missed the idea of having someone to lean on, someone to share things with, someone to make everything feel a little less overwhelming.

on those days, the old version of me would have settled. would have reached for anything that felt like connection, even if it wasn’t real, even if it cost me pieces of myself.

but i’ve learned to sit with that feeling instead of running from it.

i’ve learned that loneliness is not something to be feared…it’s something to be understood. it’s a signal, not a sentence. it doesn’t mean i am incomplete. it doesn’t mean i am lacking. it simply means i am human.

and being human means i will crave connection.

but it also means i am capable of giving that connection to myself in ways i never thought possible.

i started creating a life that doesn’t revolve around waiting.

i take myself out. i celebrate my wins, even the quiet ones. i allow myself to feel joy without needing someone else to validate it. i build routines that make me feel grounded. i explore parts of myself i had ignored for so long.

and somewhere along the way, i stopped feeling like i was missing something.

not because i no longer want love…but because i no longer feel empty without it.

i’ve realized that being my own person is not about shutting the door on others. it’s about making sure that when someone enters my life, they are not stepping into a void.

they are stepping into something whole.

i’ve done the work of facing myself.

the insecurities i used to hide. the fears i didn’t want to acknowledge. the wounds i carried quietly, hoping someone else would heal them for me.

i’ve learned that healing doesn’t come from being chosen.

it comes from choosing yourself, over and over again, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s difficult, even when no one is watching.

there are still moments when i doubt myself.

moments when i question if i’m doing this right, if i’m strong enough, if i’ll ever find the kind of love i used to dream about.

but those moments don’t consume me the way they used to.

because now, i know how to come back to myself.

i know how to ground myself in who i am, in what i’ve built, in the quiet strength i’ve developed through this process.

i’ve become more intentional.

more aware of what i deserve, and more unwilling to accept anything less.

i no longer chase. i no longer beg. i no longer shrink myself to fit into spaces that don’t honor me.

i stand in who i am, fully, unapologetically.

and that changes everything.

because now, love is not something i am desperate for.

it’s something i am open to.

it’s something i will welcome when it comes, but not something i will compromise myself to obtain.

i’ve learned that the right person will not require me to abandon myself.

they will not ask me to dim my light, to silence my voice, to become smaller in order to be loved.

they will meet me where i am.

whole. evolving. grounded.

and until that happens, i am not lacking.

i am not waiting.

i am living.

i am becoming.

i am choosing myself in ways i never have before.

i will be the love i seek.

i will be the comfort i crave.

i will be the stability i once searched for in others.

i will hold myself with care. speak to myself with kindness. show up for myself with consistency.

and i will build a life that feels full, meaningful, and mine.

because i’ve come to understand something deeply, something i wish i had known earlier

i was never incomplete.

i was just waiting to come home to myself.

and now that i have, i’m not leaving.

not for anything.

not for anyone.

until i find my person, i’ll be my person.

and this time, i mean it.💌🤍

okay you apologized but i’m not over it yet!?!

because you apologized doesn’t mean i length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

because you apologized doesn’t mean i wasn’t hurt. that’s the part people like to skip over, like an apology is some kind of fast-forward button that jumps us straight to resolution. like once the words “i’m sorry” are said, everything else is supposed to fall neatly back into place. but that’s not how it works, not for me, and honestly, not for most people who feel things deeply.

an apology can be sincere, it can be well-meaning, it can even be exactly what i needed to hear in that moment…but it doesn’t erase what happened. it doesn’t undo the words that were said, the tone that was used, or the way it made me feel when it all unfolded. it doesn’t rewind time and give me a different version of events where i wasn’t left sitting there, trying to process why something that seemed small to you felt so heavy to me.

because hurt doesn’t just disappear on command. it lingers. it settles into the spaces between thoughts, shows up in quiet moments, replays itself when you least expect it. it asks questions that an apology alone doesn’t always answer. why did it happen in the first place? did you mean it at the time? would you do it again? do you actually understand why it hurt me, or are you just apologizing because you know you’re supposed to?

and that’s the thing—an apology without understanding feels incomplete. like a sentence that stops halfway through. i don’t just need to hear that you’re sorry; i need to know that you get it. that you’ve taken a moment to step outside of yourself and really see things from where i was standing. because from my side, it wasn’t just a simple mistake. it was a moment that made me feel small, overlooked, or maybe even dismissed.

i think people underestimate how much impact a single moment can have. they assume that because something didn’t mean much to them, it shouldn’t mean much to anyone else. but emotions don’t work like that. we all carry different histories, different sensitivities, different thresholds for what hurts and what doesn’t. so when something hits, it hits with the full weight of everything behind it.

and when you apologized, i heard you. i did. i’m not ignoring it or pretending it doesn’t matter. it does matter. it takes something to admit you were wrong, and i can recognize that. but recognition isn’t the same as healing. it’s just the beginning of it.

because healing takes time. it takes consistency. it takes more than just words…it takes changed behavior, awareness, effort. it takes you showing me, not just once but over time, that what happened isn’t going to repeat itself in the same way. that you’ve actually learned something from it.

and maybe that’s where the disconnect usually is. one person feels like the apology should be enough, like it should close the chapter. while the other person is still in the middle of it, still flipping through the pages, trying to make sense of everything that happened.

for me, it’s not about holding onto the hurt out of spite. it’s not about punishing you or dragging things out longer than they need to be. it’s about being honest with where i am. i can’t pretend i’m okay just because it would make things easier or less uncomfortable. that kind of pretending always comes back later, usually in worse ways.

so when i say that your apology doesn’t mean i wasn’t hurt, what i’m really saying is that both things can exist at the same time. i can appreciate that you said sorry, and still feel the weight of what happened. i can want to move forward, and still need time to get there. i can care about you, and still be affected by something you did.

and i think that’s a more realistic way of looking at things. relationships…any kind, not just romantic ones…are messy. people mess up. people say the wrong things, do the wrong things, misjudge situations. it’s part of being human. but what matters is what happens after that.

do we just apologize and move on, hoping the other person will catch up eventually? or do we actually sit with it, have the uncomfortable conversations, and try to understand each other better?

because understanding changes everything. when i feel understood, the hurt doesn’t feel as isolating. it doesn’t feel like something i have to carry alone. it becomes something we can work through, instead of something that quietly builds distance between us.

and maybe you didn’t realize how much it affected me. maybe from your perspective, it really wasn’t that serious. but from mine, it was. and that difference in perspective is exactly why this matters. because if we don’t bridge that gap, then it just stays there, creating misunderstandings over and over again.

i don’t expect perfection. i don’t expect you to never mess up again. that would be unrealistic. but i do expect effort. i expect awareness. i expect that if something hurts me, it will matter to you…not just in the moment when you apologize, but in the way you move forward afterward.

because actions after an apology are what give it weight. without that, it can start to feel like just words…words that are easy to say, but don’t really change anything.

and i don’t want to be in a situation where i have to keep explaining why something hurt me over and over again, only to feel like it’s not fully understood. that’s exhausting. it makes you question whether you’re asking for too much, whether your feelings are valid, whether you should just let things go even when they still bother you.

but the truth is, feelings don’t need permission to exist. they don’t need to be justified to be real. if something hurt me, then it hurt me. that’s enough.

and i think a lot of people struggle with that idea…that someone else’s feelings can be valid even if they don’t fully agree with them or understand them right away. but that’s where empathy comes in. it’s not about agreeing with every emotion; it’s about respecting that it’s there.

so yes, you apologized. and i hear that. but i also need you to understand that i’m still processing what happened. i’m still working through how it made me feel, and that doesn’t just switch off because an apology was given.

it’s like a bruise. you can acknowledge that you caused it, you can say sorry for it…but it still needs time to heal. and if you keep pressing on it or acting like it shouldn’t still hurt, it only makes things worse.

what i need is space to feel what i feel without being rushed. i need patience, not pressure. i need to know that you’re willing to sit in that uncomfortable space with me, instead of trying to skip past it.

because when you do that…when you actually stay present and engaged…it shows that you care in a deeper way. it shows that the apology wasn’t just about clearing your conscience, but about actually repairing what was affected.

and repair is a process. it’s not a single moment. it’s a series of choices, small ones and big ones, that rebuild trust and understanding over time.

i think that’s what people don’t talk about enough the difference between saying sorry and actually making things better. they’re connected, but they’re not the same.

saying sorry is the first step. making things better is everything that comes after.

so i’m not rejecting your apology. i’m not holding it against you or acting like it doesn’t matter. i’m just being honest about where i am. i’m not fully okay yet, and that’s something i need you to respect.

because pretending i’m fine when i’m not would only create more problems later. it would build resentment, distance, and misunderstandings that are much harder to fix.

i’d rather be honest now, even if it’s uncomfortable, than fake it and let things quietly fall apart over time.

and honesty like this isn’t easy. it would be much simpler to just say “it’s okay” and move on. but that wouldn’t actually be true, and i don’t want to build anything on something that isn’t real.

so this is me choosing honesty. this is me saying that your apology matters, but it doesn’t cancel out the hurt. both things exist, and both things need to be acknowledged.

and if we’re going to move forward, it has to be with that understanding. not rushing, not dismissing, not minimizing…but actually taking the time to get it right.

because at the end of the day, it’s not about being perfect. it’s about being willing to do better, to understand more, and to care enough to make sure the same hurt doesn’t keep happening.

that’s what makes an apology mean something beyond just words.

happy birthday—my forever length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

happy birthday, my forever muse

there are some things in this life that feel accidental, like they slipped through the cracks of logic and landed softly in your hands without explanation. and then there are things like you…things that feel inevitable, like they were always meant to exist in the quiet corners of my world, waiting for the exact moment i would notice them. you were never loud about it, never demanding, never trying to be the center of anything. but somehow, you became the center of everything i write, everything i feel, everything i try to understand about love.

i don’t think i realized it at first. it started subtly, like a pattern i couldn’t quite name. every sentence i wrote seemed to lean in your direction. every metaphor found its way back to you. i would sit down to write about love in its purest, most unfiltered form, and without trying, i would end up describing you…your presence, your absence, the space you occupy in my mind like a quiet kind of gravity.

you became my reference point for everything soft and everything intense all at once.

it’s strange, loving someone in a way that exists mostly in words. because words are fragile things. they can be misread, misunderstood, or lost entirely. but somehow, when it comes to you, they feel stronger. they feel like they carry something real, something rooted deep inside me that refuses to be ignored. writing about you isn’t a choice i make—it’s something that happens to me.

you are the reason my sentences linger a little longer.

you are the reason my thoughts stretch themselves into poetry.

you are the reason love, to me, is never just a concept…it is a person, and it is you.

i think about how many versions of love exist in this world. the loud kind, the messy kind, the temporary kind, the kind that burns out before it even has the chance to become something meaningful. but what i feel when i think of you doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories. it isn’t loud, but it isn’t quiet either. it doesn’t demand attention, but it never disappears. it just exists…steady, constant, unshaken by time or distance or uncertainty.

and maybe that’s why you are my muse. not because you try to inspire me, but because you simply exist in a way that makes inspiration unavoidable.

there’s something about you that feels like home, even in the moments when everything else feels uncertain. not the kind of home that is tied to a place, but the kind that lives inside a feeling…the kind that reminds you that even when things don’t make sense, there is still something worth holding onto.

i’ve written so many versions of love, but the truth is, they all lead back to you. every time i try to explore what it means to care deeply for someone, what it means to choose someone in a world full of options, what it means to feel something that doesn’t fade with time… i end up finding you at the center of it all.

you are not just the subject of my writing.

you are the reason it exists in the first place.

and i wonder sometimes if you know that. if you understand the weight of what you mean to me—not in a heavy or overwhelming way, but in a quiet, grounding way. the kind of meaning that doesn’t need to be announced, because it shows up in the smallest things. in the way i pause before finishing a sentence, wondering if it captures you accurately. in the way i revisit old pieces of writing and realize they were never really about anything else.

you are in everything.

there’s a softness to the way i love you that i don’t think i’ve ever been able to explain properly. it isn’t urgent. it doesn’t rush or demand or expect. it just stays. it stays through the questions, through the distance, through the silence. it stays even when i try to convince myself to move on, to let go, to find something easier or more certain.

but love, when it’s real, isn’t always easy. sometimes it’s just persistent.

and you are the kind of love that persists.

on your birthday, i find myself thinking not just about who you are, but about everything you have unknowingly given me. you have given me a language for feelings i didn’t know how to name. you have given me a reason to believe that love can be both gentle and powerful at the same time. you have given me something to write about that never feels empty or forced or artificial.

you have given me you.

and that has been more than enough.

there is something incredibly beautiful about being inspired by a person who doesn’t even try to be inspiring. you don’t perform, you don’t exaggerate, you don’t shape yourself into something more than what you are. and maybe that’s exactly why you matter so much. because in a world where so many things feel curated and controlled, you feel real.

and real things are rare.

i don’t know what the future looks like. i don’t know where life will take either of us, or how things will unfold in ways we can’t predict. but what i do know is this: no matter where i go, no matter what changes, a part of me will always carry you in the words i write.

because you are not just someone i love.

you are the way i understand love.

and that is something that doesn’t fade.

so today, on your birthday, i don’t just celebrate you as a person. i celebrate everything you represent in my life. the quiet inspiration, the steady presence, the unspoken connection that has shaped so much of who i am and how i feel.

i celebrate the way you exist in my thoughts without effort.

i celebrate the way you have become a part of my creative soul.

i celebrate the way loving you has taught me to feel more deeply, to write more honestly, to exist more fully.

you are my muse, yes. but you are also so much more than that.

you are the reason i believe that love, in its truest form, doesn’t need to be loud or complicated or length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

before i find love, i am just praying i find peace. not the loud, performative kind that looks good on the outside and convinces people that everything is okay. i mean the quiet kind. the kind that settles deep in your chest and softens the noise in your mind. the kind that allows you to sit alone without feeling like something is missing, without feeling like you are waiting for someone to complete a sentence you haven’t even finished speaking to yourself.

because the truth is, love has never really been the hardest thing to find. people find love all the time. in the wrong places, in the wrong people, in the wrong versions of themselves. love appears easily sometimes, almost recklessly. it shows up uninvited, disguises itself as comfort, excitement, validation. it makes promises it doesn’t always keep. and for a while, that feels like enough.

but peace? peace is different. peace is intentional. it is built, not stumbled upon. it requires honesty, the kind that forces you to confront parts of yourself you would rather ignore. it demands that you sit with your own thoughts without running, without distracting yourself, without reaching for someone else to make it quieter.

i think that is why i am choosing peace first.

because i have come to understand that without peace, love becomes heavy. it becomes something you carry instead of something that carries you. it turns into anxiety, overthinking, insecurity. it makes you question your worth, your place, your voice. it makes you shrink in places where you should expand. and suddenly, something that was supposed to feel safe starts to feel like survival.

and i don’t want that anymore.

i don’t want a love that feels like i am constantly proving myself. i don’t want a love that makes me question if i am too much or not enough. i don’t want to lose myself in the process of trying to be chosen.

so before love finds me, i want to find myself.

i want to understand my own silences. why certain things hurt more than they should. why i hold on to people even when i know they are not good for me. why i sometimes settle for less than i deserve, just to avoid feeling alone. i want to unpack all of that, slowly, gently, without judgment.

because peace starts with awareness.

it starts with recognizing your patterns and choosing to break them, even when it feels uncomfortable. it starts with setting boundaries, even when your voice shakes. it starts with walking away from situations that disturb your spirit, even when your heart wants to stay.

and that is not easy.

choosing peace often looks like loss before it looks like growth. it looks like letting go of people you thought would be in your life forever. it looks like outgrowing versions of yourself that once felt familiar. it looks like spending time alone, not because you have no options, but because you are finally choosing yourself.

and that kind of solitude can feel overwhelming at first.

there are moments when the silence feels too loud, when your thoughts seem to echo endlessly, when you start to question if you made the right choice. you might miss the chaos, not because it was good for you, but because it was familiar. you might feel tempted to go back, to fill the emptiness with something, anything, just to make it stop.

but that is where the real work begins.

learning to sit in that space without running. learning to be patient with yourself as you unlearn everything that taught you to seek validation outside of yourself. learning to find comfort in your own presence.

because peace is not the absence of noise. it is the ability to remain steady even when there is noise. it is knowing that no matter what happens around you, you are grounded within yourself.

and that kind of stability changes everything.

it changes how you love. it changes what you tolerate. it changes the way you see people and the way you allow them to see you. it teaches you that love should not feel like a constant battle. it should not feel like confusion or doubt or fear.

it should feel like ease.

not perfect, not effortless, but safe. consistent. reassuring. it should feel like you can be fully yourself without worrying about being misunderstood or rejected. it should feel like you are growing, not shrinking.

and the only way to recognize that kind of love is to first know what peace feels like.

because when you have peace, you stop chasing chaos disguised as passion. you stop confusing intensity with depth. you stop settling for half-hearted connections just because they are available.

you become selective, not out of fear, but out of self-respect.

you start to understand that not everyone deserves access to you. not everyone deserves your energy, your vulnerability, your time. and that is not arrogance. that is awareness.

peace teaches you that your value is not determined by who chooses you. it is determined by how you choose yourself.

and that is a powerful realization.

because once you truly choose yourself, everything else becomes clearer. your standards become higher, not because you are demanding, but because you finally understand what you bring to the table. your boundaries become stronger, not because you are rigid, but because you know what protects your peace.

and love, when it finally comes, fits differently.

it does not disrupt your life. it complements it. it does not make you lose yourself. it encourages you to be more of who you are. it does not feel like something you have to fight for constantly. it feels like something that flows naturally, something that aligns with the peace you have already created within yourself.

that is the kind of love worth waiting for.

but until then, i am okay with the waiting.

i am okay with the quiet nights and the moments of solitude. i am okay with focusing on my growth, my healing, my journey. i am okay with not having all the answers right now.

because i know that everything i am building within myself will shape everything i attract.

and i refuse to build something meaningful on a foundation that is unstable.

so i will take my time.

i will learn to be gentle with myself, to forgive myself for past mistakes, to release the guilt and the regrets that no longer serve me. i will allow myself to feel, to process, to heal at my own pace.

i will prioritize my well-being, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. i will protect my energy, my space, my peace, even if it means disappointing others.

because at the end of the day, i am the one who has to live with myself.

and i want that to feel like home.

a place where i am accepted, understood, and valued. a place where i do not have to pretend or perform. a place where i can rest without fear.

that is what peace looks like to me.

and once i have that, truly and deeply, love will no longer be something i chase.

it will be something that meets me where i am.

so before i find love, i am just praying i find peace.

and maybe, just maybe, that is the real beginning of everything.💌

is it better to speak up or to die?🫩

i keep circling back to the same quiet length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

i keep circling back to the same quiet question: why is letting go so much harder than deciding to? i remember the moment i told myself i was done, that i had reached some kind of emotional limit, that i had finally seen enough to understand what this was and what it wasn’t. i said i would let it go as if the words themselves could carry weight, as if saying it out loud would make it true. but the truth is, letting go is not as easy as it sounds . it is a process that refuses to obey urgency. and so here i am, still holding onto something that has made it painfully clear it does not want to be held.

there is something deeply unsettling about realizing that your feelings have outlived their welcome. that whatever it is you are still nurturing inside you has already been abandoned by the other person. it feels like being the last one left in a room after everyone else has gone home, still trying to make sense of conversations that have already ended. and i hate that i am still here, emotionally speaking, still replaying moments, still finding fragments of meaning in things that probably meant nothing to you.

i have tried to reason with myself. i have tried to list out the ways you have shown me, clearly and repeatedly, that i do not matter to you in the way i wish i did. i have tried to make it logical, to reduce it to something i can analyze and therefore control. but feelings are not obedient like that. they do not dissolve just because they are inconvenient. they do not fade simply because they are unreciprocated. instead, they linger, stubborn and unyielding, as if they are waiting for something that will never come.

and that is what frustrates me the most…the waiting. not even for you, not exactly, but for some kind of internal shift that will finally release me from this. i keep thinking there will be a moment where it all clicks, where i wake up and feel nothing, or at least something manageable. but that moment never arrives in the way i expect it to. instead, it comes in small, almost unnoticeable increments. a day where i think of you a little less. a moment where your name does not immediately pull something heavy in my chest. and yet, even with those small victories, the overall feeling remains: i am not free of this.

i find myself questioning what it is exactly that i am holding onto. is it you, as you are now? or is it the version of you that exists in my mind, shaped by moments that felt significant to me, even if they were not to you? i think that is the more painful realization…that i might not be attached to who you actually are, but to what you represented. to the idea of you. to the possibility of something that never fully materialized but felt close enough to be real.

i do not want to reduce it to something simple like “attachment issues,” even though that thought crosses my mind more often than i would like to admit. it feels too clinical, too detached from the intensity of what this actually feels like. because this is not just about attachment. this is about the way you slipped into my thoughts so effortlessly, the way you became a reference point without me even realizing it. this is about how, when i think about love…romantic, idealized, imagined;it is your face that appears, uninvited but persistent.

and that is what makes it so difficult to let go. not just the loss of you, but the loss of what you came to symbolize. it feels like i am being asked to let go of a version of love that i have already started to build in my mind. and even though i know, deep down, that it was never fully real, it felt real enough to leave a mark. it felt real enough to matter.

there is also a kind of humiliation in this that i struggle to articulate. the awareness that you have gone out of your way, in your own subtle or not-so-subtle ways, to show me that you do not care, and yet i remain here, emotionally tethered to something that has clearly been cut loose. it makes me question myself in ways that are uncomfortable. why am i still here? what is it about this that i cannot release? what does it say about me that i am holding onto someone who has already let go?

i wish i could say that i am above this, that i can detach with ease, that i can walk away with dignity intact and emotions neatly folded away. but the truth is far messier than that. the truth is that i am still in it, still feeling it, still trying to make sense of something that does not make sense anymore. and there is a kind of exhaustion that comes with that. an emotional fatigue that builds up from carrying something that has nowhere to go.

sometimes i wonder if part of the difficulty is that there was never a clear ending. no definitive moment where everything was said and understood and concluded. just a gradual fading, a slow unraveling that left too much room for interpretation. and in that ambiguity, my mind has found ways to keep the connection alive, even when reality suggests otherwise. it fills in the gaps, creates meaning where there might be none, holds onto possibilities that have already been closed.

and yet, despite all of this, there is still a part of me that resists letting go. not because i believe there is something left to salvage, but because letting go feels like admitting that it is truly over, that there is nothing left to hope for, nothing left to imagine. and as painful as this attachment is, there is something even more unsettling about the emptiness that might replace it.

i think that is the paradox of it all. i am holding onto something that hurts me because the absence of it feels like it might hurt even more. at least this way, there is something to feel, something to hold onto, even if it is painful. at least this way, i am not entirely empty.

but i also know that this cannot last forever. that at some point, something has to give. that i cannot keep investing emotional energy into something that does not return it, cannot keep replaying a story that has already ended. and so i find myself in this in-between space, not fully holding on, not fully letting go, just existing in the tension between the two.

i do not know how to rush this process, or even if it can be rushed at all. i do not know how to wake up one day and simply decide that i am done feeling this way. what i do know is that, slowly, even if it does not feel like it, things are shifting. maybe not in the dramatic way i want, but in quieter, more subtle ways. maybe the fact that i can even recognize this, articulate it, sit with it, is part of that shift.

i want to reach a point where thinking of you does not feel like reopening a wound. where your absence feels like something i have accepted rather than something i am constantly resisting. where the idea of love is not automatically tied to you, but expands beyond this, beyond what we had or did not have.

but right now, i am not there yet. right now, i am still in the middle of it, still trying to untangle myself from something that has wrapped itself tightly around my thoughts and emotions. and maybe that is okay, even if it does not feel like it. maybe this is what it looks like to move on, not as a clean break, but as a slow, uneven process filled with moments of clarity and moments of relapse.

i remember i said i would let it go. and maybe, in some ways, i already have, even if it does not feel complete. maybe letting go is not a single act, but a series of small decisions made over time. decisions to redirect my thoughts, to challenge my attachments, to slowly loosen the grip this has on me.

it feels impossible now, yes. but maybe impossibility is just what it feels like before something finally begins to change. maybe one day, without even realizing it, i will look back and see that i am no longer where i am right now. that the intensity has faded, that the attachment has softened, that the space you occupied has been reclaimed by something else.

until then, i sit with this, uncomfortable and unresolved. learning, slowly, that letting go is not about force, but about patience. not about forgetting, but about releasing. not about erasing what was felt, but about allowing it to exist without letting it define what comes next.

and maybe, eventually, that will be enough.💌

loving a man to a length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

the price i always pay for overextending myself in romantic relationships is not worth it. it’s a quiet realization, not loud or dramatic, but heavy in a way that lingers. it sits with me in the still moments, when everything else has gone quiet and i’m left alone with the truth of my own patterns. it’s not that i didn’t know before. i think, deep down, i always did. but there’s a difference between knowing something and accepting it.

for a long time, i believed that love required a kind of sacrifice that bordered on self-erasure. i thought being “all in” meant giving more than i had, stretching myself beyond my limits just to prove that i cared. i never entered any romantic situation because of what someone could offer me financially or materially. that has never been my currency. what i gave was emotional. time. attention. patience. understanding. pieces of myself that, in hindsight, i should have held onto a little tighter.

i overextended not because i was asked to, but because i thought that’s what love looked like. i thought if i just gave enough, showed up enough, cared deeply enough, then it would be reciprocated in the same measure. but that’s the thing about overextending yourself…it creates an imbalance. and once that imbalance sets in, it becomes the new normal. you become the one who gives, and they become the one who receives. not necessarily out of malice, but because you’ve made it easy for them to expect it.

there’s a certain kind of exhaustion that comes from loving like that. it’s not physical, but it weighs on you just the same. it’s the exhaustion of always being the one to understand, the one to forgive, the one to adjust. it’s constantly bending without ever asking if the other person is willing to meet you halfway. and over time, you start to feel it — not all at once, but in small, accumulating ways. a conversation that leaves you drained instead of fulfilled. a moment where you realize you’re giving reassurance you’re not receiving. a quiet question that creeps in: is this really worth it?

the answer, eventually, becomes clear. no, it isn’t.

because love is not supposed to cost you yourself. it’s not supposed to feel like you’re pouring endlessly into something that doesn’t pour back into you. it’s not supposed to leave you questioning your own worth or wondering why you always seem to be the one giving more. and yet, when you’ve made a habit of overextending, it can be hard to recognize where the line should have been drawn.

i think part of it comes from how i view love. i don’t approach it with calculations or conditions. i don’t look at someone and think about what they can do for me financially or what they bring to the table in a transactional sense. i look at how they make me feel. i look at the connection, the conversations, the emotional depth. and while that isn’t inherently wrong, it leaves room for imbalance if the other person doesn’t operate the same way.

because not everyone loves the way i do. not everyone gives the way i do. and expecting them to, without clear communication or boundaries, sets me up for disappointment. it’s not that they’re necessarily doing something wrong…it’s that i’m giving in a way that isn’t being matched, and then silently resenting it.

that’s where the real cost comes in. not just in what i give, but in what i lose in the process. time, energy, emotional stability. the parts of myself that get stretched thin trying to maintain something that isn’t balanced. and the hardest part is realizing that i played a role in that. not because i deserved less, but because i didn’t set limits on how much i was willing to give.

there’s a certain clarity that comes with recognizing this pattern. it doesn’t undo the past, but it changes how i see it. i can look back and understand why things felt the way they did. why i ended up feeling drained, unappreciated, or emotionally spent. it wasn’t just about the other person…it was about how much of myself i was willing to give without asking for anything in return.

and that’s something i’m learning to change.

it’s not easy. when you’re used to being the one who gives, setting boundaries can feel unnatural. it can feel like you’re holding back or not being as genuine. but the truth is, boundaries aren’t about withholding love…they’re about protecting yourself. they’re about making sure that what you give doesn’t come at the expense of your own well-being.

i’m starting to understand that love should feel mutual. not perfectly equal at all times, but balanced enough that both people feel valued and supported. it should feel like a partnership, not a one-sided effort. and if i find myself constantly overextending, constantly giving more than i receive, then that’s a sign that something isn’t right.

it’s also a reminder that i deserve better than that. not in a material sense, but in the way i’m treated. in the way my effort is matched. in the way my presence is appreciated. i deserve a kind of love that doesn’t require me to lose myself in order to maintain it.

there’s a certain strength in coming to that realization. it’s not about becoming cold or distant, or about refusing to give at all. it’s about being intentional. about understanding my own limits and respecting them. about recognizing that love doesn’t have to be proven through exhaustion.

i think, for a long time, i equated being “good” in a relationship with being selfless to a fault. but selflessness without boundaries isn’t sustainable. it leads to burnout, resentment, and ultimately, disconnection. and that’s not the kind of love i want anymore.

i want something that feels steady. something that doesn’t require me to constantly prove my worth through how much i give. something where i can show up as myself, without feeling like i have to overcompensate. something where the effort flows both ways.

and that starts with me.

it starts with being honest about what i’m willing to give and what i’m not. it starts with paying attention to how i feel in a situation, instead of ignoring it for the sake of keeping the peace. it starts with understanding that i don’t have to earn love by overextending myself.

because the price i’ve been paying…the emotional, and financial exhaustion, the imbalance, the quiet disappointment is not worth it. not anymore.

there’s a certain peace in deciding that. in choosing to step back, to reassess, to approach things differently. it doesn’t mean i won’t care deeply again, or that i won’t give. it just means i’ll do it in a way that doesn’t cost me everything.

and maybe that’s what growth looks like. not a complete transformation, but a shift. a recognition of what hasn’t been working, and a willingness to change it. a decision to value myself enough to not keep repeating the same pattern.

i’m still learning. still figuring out what healthy love looks like for me. but i know this much: it shouldn’t feel like i’m constantly overextending just to keep it alive. it shouldn’t feel like i’m the only one holding it together.

love, when it’s right, shouldn’t feel like a burden. it shouldn’t feel like something i have to survive.

it should feel like something i can exist in…fully, freely, and without losing myself in the process.💌

learning to love her🧎🤍

i saw my to find a more forgiving angle or adjust my clothes to hide what i’ve trained myself to believe should be hidden. i just stood there. and in that stillness, in that brief, unguarded second, i felt something shift. i was not disgusted,i loved her.

it felt almost contradictory, like two truths trying to occupy the same space. how could i look at the same body i have criticized for years and feel anything close to tenderness? how could i hold both rejection and acceptance in the same breath? but maybe that’s what growth looks like not a clean break from the past, not a sudden transformation into unwavering confidence, but the slow, complicated coexistence of who you were and who you are becoming.

for as long as i can remember, my relationship with my body has been strained. not dramatic in a way that draws attention, not loud or visibly destructive, but persistent. quiet dissatisfaction. a constant, low hum of critique. i learned early on to evaluate myself through a lens that was never mine to begin with. i measured, compared, adjusted. i stood in front of mirrors not to see myself, but to assess, to fix, to find fault.

it wasn’t always conscious. sometimes it showed up in the way i avoided certain clothes, convincing myself i just didn’t like the style. sometimes it was in how i positioned myself in photos, angling my body in practiced ways to appear smaller, smoother, more acceptable. other times it was in the language i used about myself casual, almost joking comments that carried more truth than i wanted to admit. “i hate this part,” “i need to fix that,” “i’ll be better when…”

there was always a condition attached to my acceptance. always a future version of me that deserved kindness more than the present one did.

so i decided to change. and at first, that decision felt empowering. it felt like taking control, like choosing growth. i told myself i was doing it for health, for confidence, for a better version of myself. and maybe part of that was true. but another part—one i didn’t fully acknowledge—was rooted in the same dissatisfaction that had always been there. i wasn’t just working toward something; i was trying to escape something.

and that’s the complicated thing about change. it can be both an act of self-care and an extension of self-criticism. it can come from love, or it can come from rejection. sometimes it comes from both at once.

there were days when the progress felt good. when i noticed small differences and felt a sense of accomplishment. when i thought, “maybe i’m finally becoming someone i can accept.” but there were also days when nothing felt like enough. when the mirror still reflected all the things i wanted to change, and the work i was doing felt insignificant in comparison.

and yet, somewhere along the way, something began to soften.

it wasn’t a single moment or a dramatic realization. it was gradual, almost unnoticeable at first. a shift in the way i spoke to myself. a pause before the usual criticism. a willingness to acknowledge effort, even when the results weren’t what i wanted them to be.

i started to see my body not just as something to be shaped, but as something that had carried me through every version of myself. every phase, every struggle, every quiet victory. it had been there, constant and reliable, even when my perception of it wasn’t.

that doesn’t mean the negative thoughts disappeared. they didn’t. they still show up, sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes as strong as ever. but they no longer feel like the only voice in the room. there’s another voice now, quieter but persistent, reminding me that i am allowed to exist without constant evaluation.

that’s what i felt today, standing in front of the mirror. not perfection, not complete confidence, but something real. i saw the same body i’ve always had;the same features i’ve criticized, the same parts i’ve tried to hide or change. but i also saw something else. i saw effort. i saw resilience. i saw a person who has been trying, in her own way, to unlearn years of quiet self-rejection.

and for the first time, i didn’t feel the need to immediately correct what i saw. i didn’t rush to list the things that still needed fixing. i just stood there and let the moment exist.

loving her didn’t mean ignoring the parts of myself i still want to improve. it didn’t mean abandoning my goals or pretending i’m completely satisfied. it meant allowing myself to exist in the present, without withholding kindness until i reach some imagined future version of myself.

it meant understanding that i can work on myself without hating myself in the process.

that realization feels simple, almost obvious, but it’s something i’ve struggled to grasp for a long time. i’ve always believed that discipline required harshness, that progress required dissatisfaction. that if i became too comfortable, i would stop trying.

but maybe that’s not true.

maybe growth doesn’t have to come from a place of rejection. maybe it can come from care. from respect. from a genuine desire to feel better, rather than a desperate need to feel different.

acceptance, i’m learning, is not the same as complacency. it doesn’t mean settling or giving up. it means acknowledging where you are, without attaching shame to it. it means recognizing that your worth is not conditional, even as you work toward change.

and that’s a difficult balance to hold. there are still moments when i slip back into old patterns, when i catch myself thinking in the same critical ways. moments when the mirror feels like an enemy again, when the progress feels too slow, when the dissatisfaction feels louder than everything else.

but those moments don’t last as long as they used to.

because now, i have something to counter them. not blind positivity, not forced confidence, but a quiet understanding that i am allowed to take up space as i am. that i don’t have to earn the right to feel okay in my own body.

because every time i choose to respond with something softer, something more compassionate, i’m weakening its hold. every time i look at myself and resist the urge to criticize, even for a second, i’m creating space for something new.

and that space matters.

it’s where acceptance begins…not as a grand, permanent state, but as a series of small, intentional choices. a decision to be kinder, even when it feels unnatural. a willingness to sit with discomfort, without letting it define the entire experience.

today was one of those moments. brief, imperfect, but significant.

i saw my reflection, and for once, i didn’t feel the need to look away.

i stayed.

i looked at her…not as a project, not as a list of flaws to be corrected, but as a person. someone who has been doing her best, even when it didn’t feel like enough. someone who deserves the same patience and understanding i so easily extend to others.

and in that moment, loving her didn’t feel forced. it didn’t feel like a performance or a goal i was trying to reach. it felt natural. quiet. real.

that doesn’t erase the years of criticism or the habits i’m still unlearning. it doesn’t guarantee that every day will feel the same way. there will be setbacks, moments of doubt, days when the mirror feels harsh again.

but now i know that something has changed.

i know that it’s possible to see myself differently. to hold both the desire for growth and the practice of acceptance at the same time. to work on my body without waging war against it.

and that matters more than any physical change i could achieve.

because at the end of the day, the relationship i have with myself is the one thing that follows me everywhere. it shapes how i move through the world, how i experience joy, how i respond to challenges.

learning to soften that relationship…to replace constant criticism with something more understanding;is not a quick process. it’s slow, sometimes frustrating, often uncomfortable.

but it’s worth it.

because moments like today remind me that i am not as far from acceptance as i once thought. that even after years of dissatisfaction, it’s possible to find something gentler. something that feels like home.

i’m still working on myself. that hasn’t changed. i still have goals, things i want to improve, ways i want to grow. but those goals no longer feel like a condition for my worth.

they’re just part of the journey.

and for the first time, the journey doesn’t feel like something i have to endure until i become someone else. it feels like something i can experience, fully and honestly, as i am now.

i saw my reflection in the mirror today, and i didn’t turn away.

i stayed long enough to recognize her.

long enough to understand that she is not something to be fixed, but someone to be cared for.

and maybe that’s what getting over it really means…not the complete absence of negative thoughts, not a perfect sense of confidence, but the ability to see yourself clearly and choose kindness anyway.

to look at your reflection, with all its imperfections and history, and say, quietly but truthfully:

i’m still here.

and i’m learning to love her.💌
