Today, I found myself telling a friend something that I believe with every part of me:

Cancer is not a death sentence.

Yes, cancer is a serious disease. Yes, it can be life-threatening. Yes, the journey can be difficult, frightening, exhausting, and uncertain.

But when I hear people speak about cancer as though receiving a diagnosis automatically means that life is over, something inside me wants to say:

No. Don't give up yet.

Don't let fear take over your mind before you have even begun your journey.

Don't allow the diagnosis to become the final chapter before your story has had the opportunity to continue.

I know the word cancer carries a lot of fear.

The moment many people hear it, they immediately begin to imagine the worst.

They think about chemotherapy.

They think about countless medications.

They think about hospital visits.

They think about physical changes.

They think about losing their hair.

They think about watching their bodies go through things they never expected.

And yes.

I have been there.

I have walked through a cancer journey.

I have faced the fear.

I have experienced the uncertainty.

I know what it feels like when your life suddenly becomes filled with appointments, medications, questions, and things you never imagined you would have to face.

But I also know what it feels like to survive.

I survived.

And that is why I can write this.

That is why I can tell someone else who is currently standing in that dark place:

You can fight.

Your journey may be difficult, but please do not decide that it is over simply because you received a diagnosis.

Cancer is serious, but a cancer diagnosis is not automatically the end of your story.

There is treatment.

There is support.

There are medical professionals.

There is hope.

And there are survivors.

I am one of them.

DON'T LET FEAR FIGHT YOU TOO

Sometimes, the disease itself is not the only thing you have to face.

Fear can become another battle.

You begin to hear frightening stories.

You begin to imagine what might happen tomorrow.

You begin to wonder whether your body will survive the treatment.

You begin to think about everything you might lose.

And before you know it, fear has started taking more space in your mind than hope.

But please, do not allow fear to write your ending.

Yes, take your diagnosis seriously.

Seek proper medical care.

Listen to qualified medical professionals.

Follow the treatment plan recommended for you.

Ask questions.

Receive help.

But while you are doing all of these things, hold on to hope.

You are allowed to be afraid.

You are allowed to have difficult days.

You are allowed to cry.

You are allowed to feel tired.

But please remember:

Being afraid does not mean you have lost.

Being tired does not mean you have quit.

Sometimes, courage is simply waking up and taking the next step.

Sometimes, fighting means going to the next appointment.

Sometimes, fighting means taking your medication.

Sometimes, fighting means allowing yourself to rest and gathering enough strength for tomorrow.

You do not have to fight the entire journey in one day.

Just keep taking the next step.

SOME PEOPLE WILL LEAVE

There is another side of a difficult journey that people do not always talk about.

Some people will leave.

You may be surprised by who becomes distant.

You may be hurt by the people you trusted.

There may be someone you believed would never leave your side, only for them to slowly disappear when life becomes difficult.

Some people may become afraid.

Some may not know what to say.

Some may not know how to handle your illness.

And some may quietly assume the worst.

That can hurt deeply.

You may find yourself asking:

“I trusted you. I thought you loved me. Why aren't you here?”

And honestly, sometimes you may not get an answer.

But please, do not allow someone's absence to make you stop fighting.

Do not allow someone's decision to walk away to convince you that you are alone.

Because there is genuine love in this world.

There are people who will love you not because of what they can get from you, but simply because you are you.

Their love is genuine.

Their care is real.

They may not have all the answers.

They may not always know what to say.

But they will show up.

They will call.

They will check on you.

They will pray with you.

They will encourage you.

They will sit with you.

They will remind you that your life is still worth fighting for.

And sometimes, when you feel like you have nothing left to give, they will lend you their strength until you can find yours again.

Yes, it can become difficult to know who to open up to.

You may think:

“I trusted this person. Surely, this person cannot hurt me.”

But people can disappoint us.

People can fail us.

People we thought would stay can walk away.

And that pain is real.

But please do not close your heart completely because someone failed to love you well.

One person's inability to love you does not mean genuine love no longer exists.

It does.

There are still people who genuinely care.

There are still people who will stand beside you.

There are still people who will have your back.

And when people leave, God remains.

When people do not understand your journey, God remains.

When people become silent, God remains.

When you feel like no one understands the fear in your heart, God remains.

You are not alone.

FIGHT FOR SOMETHING

When life becomes difficult, you may need to remind yourself what you are fighting for.

Fight for your life.

Fight for love.

Fight for hope.

Fight for your family.

Fight for your dreams.

Fight for the things you still want to experience.

Fight for the stories you have not yet written.

Fight for the people you still want to meet.

Fight for the future you still want to see.

There is so much worth fighting for.

And when you feel like you are fighting cancer alone, remember that there are people who are fighting with you in their own way.

There are people praying for you.

There are people supporting you.

There are people believing with you.

There are people who genuinely want to see you win.

Let them love you.

Let them support you.

You do not have to carry everything alone.

And for those of us who believe in God, I also want to say:

You can draw strength from the Holy Spirit.

There may be days when your own strength is not enough.

There may be moments when you cannot even find the words to pray.

But you can still lean on God.

You can still take one more step.

You can still believe that your story is not over.

I AM A TESTIMONY

I am not writing this because I believe every cancer journey will look like mine.

I know that every person's experience is different.

I am not writing this to make light of the seriousness of cancer.

I am writing this because I have been there.

And I survived.

I know what it feels like to be afraid.

I know what it feels like to face uncertainty.

I know what it means to go through a journey you never planned for.

But today, I am still here.

I am a survivor.

I am a testimony.

And maybe that is one of the reasons I can speak with so much conviction to someone else who is currently fighting.

Because sometimes, you need to hear from someone who has been there.

You need to hear:

“I understand.”

“I know it is difficult.”

“You are allowed to be afraid.”

“But please don't give up.”

So, if you are currently living with cancer, this is my message to you:

Please, fight.

Fight with the right medical support.

Fight with hope.

Fight with courage.

Fight with the love of the people who genuinely care about you.

Fight one day at a time.

You don't have to pretend to be strong every second.

You don't have to smile through everything.

You don't have to carry the journey alone.

But whatever you do

Don't give up on yourself.

There are stories you have not yet lived.

There are places you have not yet been.

There are people you have not yet met.

There are dreams you have not yet fulfilled.

There are words you have not yet spoken.

And perhaps, one day, you will have your own survival story to tell.

Perhaps, one day, you will be the person standing before someone else and saying:

“I have been there. And I survived.”

Cancer is serious.

The journey can be difficult.

The fear can be overwhelming.

People may leave.

But there is still hope.

There is still love.

There are still people who genuinely care.

There is still medical support.

And there are survivors.

I am one of them.

So, please:

Fight it.

Fight for your life.

Fight for love.

Fight for hope.

Fight for your future.

Fight for the story that is still waiting to be written.

You can do this one step at a time.

You can keep going.

And when the journey feels too difficult, hold on to those who genuinely love you.

Hold on to hope.

And hold on to God.

Your diagnosis may have changed your journey, but it does not automatically get to decide the ending.

Your story is still being written.

And mine?

This morning, I cried.

Not because something extraordinary happened. Not because I wanted to give up. I simply found myself struggling with something, and almost immediately, a thought came to my mind:

“If my mother were here…”

If my mother were here, I would have called her.

If my mother were here, I probably wouldn't have had to figure this out alone.

If my mother were here, I would have asked her what to do.

If my mother were here, maybe this particular burden would have felt lighter.

And then reality hit me again.

My mother is no longer here.

She has been gone for three years.

I sat there, remembering her, and I cried.

I cried because sometimes grief isn't about forgetting that someone is gone. Sometimes it is about suddenly remembering all the little things you would have done if they were still here.

There are moments when you don't necessarily need money.

You don't necessarily need a miracle.

You just need your person.

You need someone you can call and say, “Mummy, please, what should I do?”

And when that person is no longer available, the silence can be painful.

But as I sat there this morning, another thought came to me:

If the presence of my mother could make me feel that I was not alone, what should the presence of God mean to me?

We often measure our lives by what we can physically see.

We feel safer when someone is physically present.

We feel stronger when we have someone to call.

We feel more confident when someone is standing beside us.

But Christianity introduces us to a different reality:

There is Someone we cannot see, yet He is with us.

God is not less present because He is invisible.

He is not less powerful because we cannot physically touch Him.

He is not less dependable because we cannot pick up a phone and dial His number.

The Bible says:

“A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.” — Psalm 68:5

There are things my mother would have helped me with if she were here.

But there are things only God can do.

There are battles my mother could have helped me navigate, but there are battles only God can fight.

There are questions I could have taken to my mother, but there are questions I must learn to take to God.

And this is where our faith becomes real.

We talk about God being our Father, but sometimes life gives us opportunities to actually lean on Him as Father.

We talk about God's presence, but sometimes loneliness teaches us what His presence really means.

We talk about trusting God, but sometimes the people we trusted are no longer available, and we have to discover that God is still available.

Think about the disciples.

They walked with Jesus physically. They saw Him. They touched Him. They heard Him speak.

Yet Jesus told them that it was better for Him to go so that the Helper—the Holy Spirit—would come.

God was teaching them something:

His physical absence would not mean His presence was gone.

And look at what happened through the early Church.

Peter and the other apostles became instruments through which God performed mighty works. Acts 5 tells us that people even brought the sick into the streets, hoping that Peter's shadow might fall on them.

It was never about Peter's shadow having supernatural power of its own.

It was about the God who was with Peter.

The same God who worked through the disciples is still God today.

The same God who empowered them is still present.

The same Holy Spirit is still with His people.

So perhaps the question is not only:

“Who do I have?”

Perhaps we should also ask:

“Who is with me?”

Because sometimes we focus so much on the people we have lost that we forget to recognize the Presence we still have.

I miss my mother.

I will not pretend that I don't.

I miss her deeply.

And perhaps there will always be moments when I wish I could call her.

But I am learning something:

Missing my mother does not mean I am without a Father.

Her absence is real, but so is God's presence.

I may not be able to hear my mother's voice anymore, but I can still hear God through His Word.

I may not be able to run to my mother anymore, but I can run to God.

I may not be able to ask my mother, “What should I do?” but I can ask God.

And when I don't understand what is happening, I can remind myself:

God is here.

That is what keeps me moving.

Three years later, I am still here.

Not because losing her did not hurt.

Not because I never cried.

Not because I suddenly stopped missing her.

But because God has been faithful.

And perhaps that is the encouragement someone needs today.

Maybe you are missing someone too.

Maybe there is someone you wish you could call.

Maybe you are facing something and thinking, “If only this person were still here.”

I understand.

Cry if you need to.

Miss them.

Acknowledge the pain.

But don't let the absence of someone make you forget the presence of God.

If your mother were here, perhaps she would help you.

But God is here.

And if God is here, you are not alone.

The God who raised the dead, healed the sick, strengthened the weak and empowered ordinary people to do extraordinary things is still God.

So today, I choose to say:

“Lord, I miss my mother, but I thank You that I still have You.”

And somehow, that is enough to keep me moving.

Three days ago, I witnessed something that made me think deeply about humility.

My father, my mentor and spiritual father was around for a wedding. He stopped by my place to spend the night, and the following Sunday, we went to my local church together.

That Sunday happened to be the Men's Anniversary in the church.

During the service, our usual interpreter wasn't available. My pastor looked around and asked a simple question:

“Who will interpret for us today?”

And then my mentor raised his hand.

He volunteered.

A man carrying an undeniable grace and calling upon his life was willing to stand and interpret for another person.

No title.

No “Do you know who I am?”

No hesitation because of his position.

He simply made himself available.

After the preaching, my pastor made a statement that stayed with me. He said, in essence, that if anyone was looking for an example of humility, they didn't need to look far.

And I understood why.

Because sometimes, humility is not demonstrated by what we say about ourselves. It is demonstrated by what we are willing to do when nobody thinks we should have to do it.

We often associate greatness with being served.

But Jesus introduced us to a different kind of greatness.

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” — Matthew 20:26

There is something about becoming “important” that can quietly make people unavailable.

Unavailable to help.

Unavailable to listen.

Unavailable to serve.

Unavailable for the assignments that appear too small for their status.

Unavailable because, in their minds, their title has become too big for the task.

But true humility does something different.

Humility keeps you available.

You can be anointed and still serve.

You can be called and still help.

You can carry a great assignment and still be willing to do something that nobody will applaud you for.

You can be the person everyone recognizes and still be humble enough to stand at the back and assist.

Because your greatness does not make service beneath you.

In fact, sometimes the clearest evidence that someone has truly grown is that they are not too big to serve.

Jesus washed feet.

Think about that.

The One who knew exactly who He was did not allow the awareness of His identity to make Him unavailable to serve others.

That challenged me.

Because perhaps the question isn't only, “How humble am I?”

Perhaps we should also ask:

“How available am I?”

Are you only available when the assignment is public?

Are you only available when your name will be mentioned?

Are you only available when the microphone is in your hand?

Are you only available when people know that you were the one who did it?

Or can you serve when nobody will know?

Can you assist someone else's assignment without feeling threatened?

Can you interpret for someone else?

Can you carry a chair?

Can you help behind the scenes?

Can you submit to another person's leadership?

Can you do something that looks smaller than your calling?

Because sometimes, the test of humility is not whether you can stand before people; it is whether you are willing to serve when you could have chosen not to.

My mentor could have simply sat down.

Nobody would have questioned him.

He wasn't obligated to interpret.

But he was available.

And that moment taught me something:

Never become so important that you become unavailable.

Your title is not your identity.

Your position is not your greatness.

Your anointing is not an excuse to stop serving.

If anything, the more God entrusts to you, the more humble your heart should become.

Because the kingdom of God is not built around who is too important to serve.

It is built around people who are willing to say:

“Here I am. What can I do?”

May we never become too elevated to serve.

May we never become too recognized to assist.

May we never become too anointed to humble ourselves.

And may our greatness never make us unavailable.

Because sometimes, humility looks like simply raising your hand and saying, “I can do it.”

There was this particular Sunday when I had a strong leading in my heart to give my children in the church a few lines of daily affirmation and declaration.

I belong to the Children Department, and these little ones are my little champions. I wanted to give them something simple they could take home and intentionally speak over their lives, not just words for the sake of saying them, but declarations that would remind them of who they are in Christ and what God says concerning them.

So, I gave them a few lines of affirmation and declaration.

And surprisingly, these little champions took it seriously.

They began making those declarations over their lives.

What I didn't realize at the time was that the same thing I was giving to them would eventually become something I would begin doing for myself.

I started making those declarations over my own life every morning.

And I won't lie, I have seen changes.

It has been beautiful to watch how something I initially wanted to give to these children has also become a blessing to me personally.

Sometimes, we give people what God has placed in our hands, not realizing that the same thing may also be a seed for us.

Those declarations have become a way for me to intentionally remind myself of God's truth.

Because every day, there are different voices speaking to us.

Our circumstances speak.

Our fears speak.

Our disappointments speak.

People speak.

Sometimes, even our own minds speak things that are contrary to what God has said about us.

And that is why we must be intentional about what we allow to come out of our mouths.

This is not about pretending that everything is perfect. It is not about denying reality or making empty positive confessions.

It is about choosing to speak God's truth over our lives, even when our circumstances are saying something different.

Sometimes, you need to remind yourself:

I am God's child.

I am loved by God.

I am chosen for His purpose.

I am not a failure.

I have grace for what God has called me to do.

I have wisdom.

I am favoured.

I am growing.

I am becoming all that God has called me to be.

The Lord is in my midst.

I will not be ruled by fear.

My steps are ordered.

I will walk in obedience to God.

I will not be stranded.

My life will bring glory to God.

The interesting thing is that I thought I was simply teaching the children.

But somehow, God was teaching me too.

I wanted to build little champions, and in the process, I discovered that I also needed to continually remind myself of the truth.

Sometimes, the word you give to someone else becomes the word that strengthens you.

Sometimes, the seed you sow into someone else's life becomes a reminder for your own life.

And sometimes, the leading you receive from God may be bigger than you initially understand.

So, I want to ask you a simple but important question:

What are you declaring over your life every morning?

What are you consistently saying about yourself?

What are you declaring concerning your future?

What are you declaring concerning your family?

What are you declaring concerning your purpose?

What are you declaring concerning your relationship with God?

Because if you are going to speak every day, why not intentionally speak what God says?

Let your mouth become a source of faith.

Let your words remind you of God's promises.

Let your declarations align your heart with His truth.

And just as I encourage my little champions to declare God's truth over themselves, I am also learning to do the same.

What are you declaring over your life?

Be intentional about your words.

Be intentional about what you believe.

And above all, be intentional about aligning your declarations with the Word of God.

Because sometimes, while you are teaching little champions to speak God's truth, God is also teaching you to believe it again.

But I believe we need to have an honest conversation about how we choose to build that family.

There is a growing mindset that says a woman can simply decide that she wants a child, obtain donor sperm, go through the necessary process, and have a baby without needing a husband or a committed partner. The argument is often, “I don't need a man. I only need his sperm.”

But is having a child truly the whole picture?

Marriage is partnership.

Marriage is more than having someone beside you at a wedding. It is commitment, loyalty, communication, sacrifice, friendship, responsibility, and the willingness to build something together. And when children come into that partnership, the responsibility becomes even greater.

A child is not simply something to acquire because we have reached a certain age or because we are tired of waiting for love. A child is a human being who will grow up needing love, guidance, stability, identity, protection, and the presence of responsible adults.

That is why I struggle with the idea of intentionally designing a family around “me and my child” while completely eliminating the possibility of a committed father simply because relationships have become disappointing.

I understand that some women have experienced terrible heartbreak. Some have been betrayed, abandoned, abused, or disappointed repeatedly. I understand why, after experiencing these things, a woman might begin to believe that having a man in her life is more trouble than it is worth.

But heartbreak should not necessarily become the architect of our family structure.

You cannot allow the failures of some men to convince you that all partnership is unnecessary. You cannot allow disappointment in relationships to make you conclude that the only valuable thing a man can contribute to your family is biological material.

A man is not merely a sperm donor.

And a woman is not merely a vessel for carrying a child.

There is something powerful about two people choosing one another, committing to one another, and intentionally building a home where a child is welcomed into the love and responsibility of both parents.

This is not an argument against IVF, fertility treatments, sperm donation, adoption, or other reproductive options. There are women and couples who genuinely need medical assistance to conceive, and reproductive medicine has given many families hope. Needing medical help to have a child does not make anyone weak. Infertility is not a moral failure.

The question I am raising is different.

What happens when a healthy, single woman decides that she wants the child but deliberately rejects the idea of partnership altogether, not because she has no opportunity for love, but because she has concluded that she does not need a man beyond his biological contribution?

That deserves honest reflection.

Because bringing a child into the world is serious business.

It is not simply pregnancy. It is years of parenting. It is waking up at night. It is financial responsibility. It is emotional availability. It is discipline. It is teaching. It is protecting. It is answering difficult questions. It is raising another human being who will eventually have a life, choices, emotions, and relationships of their own.

And that is why I believe family should be approached with intentionality.

If marriage is partnership, then building a family should also be approached as a partnership whenever possible. Love matters. Commitment matters. Loyalty matters. Communication matters. Shared responsibility matters.

We should not reduce the conversation about family to “Can I have a baby without a man?”

We should also ask:

“What kind of family am I intentionally building?”

“What kind of environment will this child grow up in?”

“Am I making this decision from genuine conviction, or from the wounds left by heartbreak?”

“Am I building a family, or am I simply fulfilling my desire to become a mother?”

Motherhood is beautiful. But the desire for motherhood should also invite us to think beyond pregnancy.

Because a child is not an achievement to check off a list.

A child is a life entrusted to us.

And if we truly desire to build a family, then perhaps we should not be so quick to dismiss the beauty, responsibility, sacrifice, and commitment that genuine partnership can bring.

Marriage is partnership. Family is responsibility. And bringing a child into this world is far bigger than simply getting pregnant.

He is also the priest who presents the sacrifice.

He's then the judge who sits on the throne and accepts the sacrifice.

He is the Savior

He is the Advocate

He is the Mediator

He is also the intercessor.

He is the Lamp

He is also the shepherd.

Jesus is Lord

The Lord is Jesus.
