length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

this a follow-up on the conversation i started earlier this week with: the world needs your genius: on genius as an expression of soul, and flow

this piece also explores:

some of gay hendrick’s reflection questions for discovering your zone of genius and your unique ability

details on my newest 1:1 offering, soulsong sessions, created to help you better understand and embody your genius (and with more pleasure!)

i recently shared some ideas here that i’ve been playing with, about how genius is a process of emergence, and a state of being that we’re all designed to access and experience.

in the way of flow state, that requires the presence and integration of certain elements within a person and their environment(s) to emerge—

elements that can be anticipated and studied,

a state of being that can be designed for, in ways engineered—

my sense is that we each have unique pathways and processes for emerging genius.

that genius follows a similar organizing intelligence to flow, so we can design for its emergence.

and we begin with what feels easy.

i think that genius is, in part, about what comes easily to and for us.

the sorts of stuff that feels natural or more easeful.

what we can do seemingly effortlessly.

it’s about how we demonstrate mastery of elements.

(and it’s often the kinds of stuff other people tend to call out or compliment us on, that we may not even really think about, perhaps even take for granted.)

in other words, genius—when we emerge and move with and as it—expresses as a kind of flow.

a state and experience that might be one of a moment, and that can also be inhabited over hours, days, weeks, years.

more and more, it’s seeming like:

whenever there is a sense of balanced integration of elements

within our brain-body-spirit systems—

when we’re experiencing, and moving with, a sense of right relationship,

we’re in the frequency or channel of our genius.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" is about how we express grace.

as with flow, we all know grace when we see and experience it.

it’s a feeling, a know-ing.

we feel it in the athletic fluidity of a ballerina.

we can appreciate it in the curvaceous lines and engineering of a maserati.

when i was kid, for years my dad would take me and my siblings to different auto and mechanical engineering-type exhibitions.

there was this little game he’d play with me, asking me as we’d move through the seas of cars and machines, about the ones i liked best, what it was about them, their lines and shapes and mechanics that i found interesting or beautiful.

he encourage me to articulate why i favored the aston martins and the maseratis over the hummers and monster trucks.

how did it make me feel to see them and sit inside them?

could i articulate why i tended to like ferraris more than lamborghinis?

themes it always came back to: elegance. suppleness. flow. grace. beauty.

even as i kid, i understood: some things hit you over the head. others feel like poetry.

so even as children, i think we know when we touch on aspects of ours and others’ genius because it—whatever TF the it is—feels somehow like that.

so, practically speaking, how do we find and feel into this flow-grace-genius space, this expression of poetic intelligence?

and not just in moments—how do we learn (and train) to inhabit our genius as a way of being?

i’ve found desire, pleasure, and magnetism are important pathways to explore for understanding and cultivating of genius and flow.

we’ll explore these a bit here.

coming back to some of these italicized words from the beginning, remember that a lot of this has to do with where and how we seem to naturally, easefully, seemingly effortlessly move and create.

so, what do we naturally want to move toward?

what most engages and captivates us?

what feels easy for us to be with?

psychologist and teacher gay hendricks speaks of us having different zones of mastery, including our zone of excellence and our zone of genius.

he offers processes and practices for discovering and defining what kinds of stuff falls into each zone.

to discover one’s zone of genius, these are some of the questions to explore:

what do i most love to do?

what work do i do that doesn’t feel like work?

in my work, what produces the highest ratio of abundance and satisfaction to amount of time spent?

what is my unique ability?

see how these questions are all about desire, pleasure, ease, elegance, flow?

he’s not talking about grinding and hustling and suffering to emerge genius.

hendriks also speaks of one’s discovering one’s unique ability by exploring a set of russian-nesting-doll-type questions.

to discover yours, finish these three sentences:

i’m at my best when ______.

when i’m at my best, the exact thing i’m doing is ______.

when i’m doing that, the thing i love most about it is ______.

as you can see, the basic tenets of his approach are about following magnetism and pleasure.

it also implies a natural disposition toward the experience and expression of states of flow, and pleasureful mastery, and of genius as corresponded to flow.

i’m curious, as you’re reading all of this: how it feels in your body to consider these ideas…

that you already have access to genius—

that there is a kind of intelligence coded within what you feel most drawn to and aligned with—

that when you’re in flow you’re also in ways on-purpose?

(does it feel juicy and exciting?! i hope so.)

on a related note, i want to share about a new 1:1 offering i’ve created to help you better understand and embody your genius (and to do it all with more pleasure!):

s o u l s o n g s e s s i o n s.

what gay hendricks calls discovering one’s unique ability and learning to operate within one’s zone of genius is like what i’ve come to call emerging and embodying one’s soulsong.

soulsong is our unique, once-in-a-universe way of living, moving, being.

it’s the song, or soul signature, that we can channel and express—

carried in the ways we dress, work, relate, adorn our homes, contribute, create.

and, like genius, our soulsong is not something we express for our own satisfaction and abundance; it’s also an offering.

the process of learning how to emerge, express, and embody our soulsong is one we undertake as a gift and a service to the collective.

a way of being in the world that is felt.

our unique beauty and poetry, that enriches the people and world around us.

(i do really believe these are some of the ways we change the world.)

in my work and practice i’m forever developing and refining processes and practices to better support people to discover and embody their life’s purpose and higher creativity, and to finding greater flow, vitality, and abundance in their lives and bodies and work.

i’ve found that working with archetypes and symbols are potent ways to work with untouchable, intangible parts of ourselves—the subconscious, unconscious, the nervous system, the spirit or soul-self.

(the soul-self is how i conceptualize of our higher, multidimensionally aware and attuned, aka integrated, self).

s o u l s o n g s e s s i o n s are deeply grounded in somatics and desire- and pleasure-based forms of identity- and inquiry work, that weave with symbology work—

using archetypes and symbols from domains like astrology and human design, as well as nature (exploring magnetic relationships through color, plants, animals, etc.).

we explore through a combination of live sessions and somatic inquiry work, home play and practice, and readings that integrate your human design, astrology, and gene keys charts.

unconventional. potent. pleasurable.

you’ll come away with: a better understanding of how to unlock your genius, how you’re you’re designed to thrive, and tools and practices to facilitate flow.

the sessions are designed as stand-alone experiences—ways to help you jump-start your purpose work or refine what you’re already doing—

and they also provide rich foundational material for longer-term coaching and mentorship work that you may like to do with me.

y,all—i’m really excited to be offering these!

for now, only three of these sessions are available for booking. further details are below.

if this feels like a YES, i invite you to reach out and book a session. (by luck, or the gods?)

not some fixed or static thing we are, not a something we can ever truly hold, or possess.

just as i’ve come to understand that we’re all innately creative (and in unique ways),

we’re all designed to inhabit genius.

genius is an experience.

an expression—a kind of frequency or channel.

we don’t possess it—we emerge it.

it’s not that we are genius—we activate, engage it.

it’s like turning our radios to a particular frequency and getting to receive, attune to, experience a particular broadcast.

if we then start to sing along to what we hear, if we perhaps dance along,

we also then transmit, channel the broadcast.

in this, we express, embody, the frequency.

so it seems that we open the channels for communication with and transmission of genius when we’re in spaces of receptivity, attunement, and embodied presence.

if as we move and sing, we eventually lose ourselves to the moment, our multisensory experiences alive—we become, we inhabit the music.

engaging genius requires our attention, our participation.

embodying genius requires our immersion.

what it takes to engage and embody genius is a lot like like what it takes to emerge flow, or flow state. i’ve come to think of these expressions and experiences as intricately woven.

flow state is one that we talk about neurobiologically and experientially, and it requires certain elements and dynamics to emerge.

it, too, requires focused attention, immersion. and it requires an integration and synchronization of aspects within our bodymind systems, as well as within our environmental contexts, to emerge.

whenever there is a kind of synchrony of these elements—a balanced and graceful interaction, or dance—flow expresses.

in other words, i think of flow as what organically emerges in contexts of right relationship.

balance, harmony, everything-as-it-should-be.

it seems to me that, like flow, genius also emerges in response to particular conditions and architectures.

and what works for my neurobiology and person, to emerge flow state and genius, is not going to be the same as what works for you.

in the way that what enlivens the muse, creative inspiration, in you, will likely be different from what does me.

in our neurobiologies and inspirations there may be some universalities, sure—and there’s also a unique codex for each person, for understanding, activating, and supporting our neurobiological and creative systems. (and it’s not always going to be the same from one day to the next.)

so…how do we find and cultivate these senses and experiences of right relationship, in order to access our genius and flow?

to (begin to) answer this question, let’s come back to this idea of their emergence as through a coordinated dance, or movement, of elements.

this speaks of some of the essence or spirit of genius.

prior to the 16th century, it was thought that people had a genius.

the word genius comes from latin, a noun meaning a guardian spirit or divine-like power, said to watch over and support a person from birth.

genius was not something a person was, but something they moved with.

(apparently it was in the 16th century that people began using the word genius to refer to mental aptitude and mastery, rather than as a spiritual element or entity.)

what i’ve been feeling lately is that genius might be something like the convergence of creativity with soul.

that it’s something of our innate creative expression, our spiritual- or soul-signature.

that maybe, when we’re in flow, experiencing flow state, genius is what we’re experiencing the wash, the movement, of.

like it’s the animating force, or erotic current, of the whole experience.

that somehow flow is genius is the expression of the higher, integrated self, on-purpose.

to me, anyway, these ideas are akin to our more ancient ideas and understandings of the nature and quality of genius. that it’s a representation of multidimensional creativity and synchrony—

us here, feet planted on the earth, in an elemental and ethereal dance with aspects or channels our higher intelligence(s) and allies.

okay, so…thoughts on all this?!

i’d love to hear how these ideas are landing.

in a follow-up piece, we’ll explore some prompts and practices to help you better understand how you personally access flow and your creative genius. we’ll explore how your soul-self communicates and attempts to express, through things like magnetism, desire, pleasure, and symbology.

because i’m convinced the world needs more of your genius to come through—whatever that looks and sounds and moves like.

until next time,

big love, soft power.

g.

w o v e n with grey tanner is a reader-supported publication. special.)

my time on the river this year, including conversations and circles with some of the women there, had the naked monday project surfacing again and again, in my practice.

in the intro graphic i made (below), there’s a nude self-portrait. you’d be right to think that it’s about getting physically naked, and making and sharing art. much as it may be about the naked body.

as a practice, it’s fundamentally about courage, vulnerability, and embodied leadership.

below is an excerpt from the instagram post i made to introduce it in august 2024.

i’m here to cultivate a life of embodied presence, in devotion to authentic aliveness + conscious, creative expression.

a life that both lights me up and that offers nourishment + beauty in the world, simply because it’s an expression of integrity.

for me, this is creative living.

this is integrated, intuitive living--

what i sometimes call luminous living.

i’m here to design and inhabit my uniquely luminous life.

and i’m here to support others in doing the same.

i (still) feel that social media and our digital spaces have the potential to foster genuine connection, to invite us to embody more of our fullness, and to support the evolution of our collective consciousness.

it seems to me that for that to happen, these spaces need more of our courage and vulnerability.

our willingess to do things differently, and with heart, and to say and share the things that feel hard. that we’re afraid of.

to lean into the spaces where we feel not enough--or fear we may be.

when i think about the leadership we need, it’s represented by this kind of embodied, purposeful humanity.

we need to reclaim our trust in ourselves and each other. we need to practice shedding what isn’t true so we can practice embodying more of what is.

that’s what naked monday is about.

i invite you to join me in this practice.

in the two years since, i’ve not shared too many naked monday-specific things. i had never intended to make it a weekly thing—just something to do when it felt right.

some posts featured more nude self-portraiture while others that had me wearing clothes while undressing through words and feeling.

always, though, it stretched and expanded and invited me.

as i return to the practice, i anticipate more of the same.

and, for reals, will you join me sometimes?

(tag me on IG @grey_tanner_ and/or use #nakedmonday so i and others can see what steele

another day i will wax poetic about the magick of being naked in a river (and also of having wonderful friends who are creatives and storytellers and see-ers, who like to witness you in your element—yum.)

for now, here’s a bit more about how to show up for naked monday:

do you have to share nude content?

absolutely not.

is it welcome?

definitely.

i think sharing in this way can serve powerful cultural and personal developmental functions, and i choose to share of myself and in these ways because it feels intrinsic to my work in the world as an embodiment guide + change maker.

if that doesn’t resonate, get naked in other ways instead.

why monday?

the mon in monday means moon.

representing the inner world, the yin element, the darkness, the shadow (or subconscious) self, the receptive or sometimes-called “feminine” energetic polarity, the visionary capacity, the intuition, and more,

moonday is a day of tending to these aspects.

(and, just like the moon, we have many faces and are always whole.)

and also, since many of us dislike mondays (because capitalism, etc.), why not infuse the day, and a new week, with some beauty + goodness?! and maybe some actual, sexy, nakedness, too (if that’s your jam)?

there’s no right way to play.

i’ll post when i feel called and i won’t when i don’t. i may sometimes offer post prompts.

i encourage participation when it feels aligned.

all you need to do is share from the heart anduse the tag #nakedmonday

so i and others can see you + have the opportunity to connect with each other.

because showing up in this way is hard AF, engaging with + commenting on others’ posts is encouraged. consider letting others know you’re witnessing and celebrating them. take a moment to express appreciation or gratitude if something impacts you.

consider this an opportunity to practice greater generosity in your expressions as a witness. it matters.

dear ones,

here it is summer, and i’m slowly emerging from my hermit hole to share some words with you.

i’ve been quiet here for months and i’ve been feeling pretty crunchy about it.

simultaneously, i’ve been in a process of trusting that, while it’s been a deeply uncomfortable period (more to come on this), it’s all been somehow necessary, and even supportive.

the truth is, i’ve been navigating a dark night of the soul for a long time.

while not much has been visible externally, in my cave these last several months (and years) i’ve been grappling with some big shit, and writing a lot more than usual.

to borrow a phrase from NASA engineers and mission control: working the problem[s].

through it, making what feel like some profound, significant strides on a handful of creative projects and offering developments.

seeds and threads of things have been, ever slowly and perceptibly, over months and years, weaving their way into form.

through the dark i’ve also been doing and experiencing lot of clarifying—

of what feels like my life and soul purpose.

of my shadows, opportunities, gifts.

of my energetic field.

of my vision.

in tandem, though still experiencing what feel like significant (and exhausting and often frustrating) challenges, my overall health seems to be recovering.

it’s been a brutal, and fruitful, dark. (iykyk.)

coming through this long dark night, i’ve had what’ve felt like some sorta false starts over the last three-four years (and some of you have been around for them).

periods where it’d started to feel like things were coming together, gaining momentum; where i’d gotten to feeling like i might, actually, be coming through, coming to the other side of things.

and in some ways i would, or for a (teasingly) short time, anyway.

then, new or renewed cycles of initiation, dis-ease, and the like, would pull me into the dark depths again.

for reasons of both larger metaphysics, and my own sensing and intuition—

(and the fact that i feel i really need reprieve from the soul-scouring, okayyyy…?!)

i’ve recently begun feeling a growing, if tentative, optimism—

that this time i’m opening into a proper season, and hopefully a whole-ass era, where you’ll be seeing and hearing and receiving a whole lot more from me.

(ya girl’s got some next-level voice and visibility work to do…)

an era of more balanced and integrated relationship between inner and outer worlds, where i feel more resourced and can sustain more sharing, social connection, and creative collaboration.

in june, to support me in a lot of this soul and systems work, and growing my body of work and creative business ecosystem, i made a few big commitments:

to a thirteen-month mentorship and, with it, participation in a feminine creators collective.

i’ve allied with a mentor and elder who has already walked a creative path similar to the one i’m unfolding, to provide some of the holding, accountability, and advocacy i need to rise into my next-level of living and creating.

i claimed my place in a sisterhood of feminine leaders and visionaries doing similarly big, wild unconventional (and thus often lonely) work in the world, so we might all rise together.

i also created and invited a long-time client into a more immersive, six-month container to accelerate her personal and professional transformation and development work, while simultaneously stretching and expanding me as a guide, facilitator, and strategist.

(i’m doing a lot of the development and refinement work on the container this month, and we’ll begin our deeper-dive work in august. i’m excited.)

i’ll be sharing more about these collaborative leaps in future dispatches.

<a greene

from the watery depths, to the fiery skies

as we continue the conversation on growth and expansion, let’s talk about jupiter.

known as the planet of expansion and the great benefic, for the abundance and good fortune it bestows, gas-daddy jupiter recently changed signs, inviting some big shifts in our field.

last week, jupiter left the sign of cancer, where it had been since june 2025.

water-element cancer is the deep-feeling, caretaker of the zodiac, known for high sensitivity and intuition, nurturing, loyalty, and connection to home and family, amongst other things.

these energies twining, many of us will have felt the call during this past year to retreat from our external worlds, to turn toward our interiors and to deeply tend ourselves, our most intimate environments and relationships.

this has been a potent transit for deep inner work to expand our senses of emotional safety, security, rootedness, home, soft power, peace.

(aka: forms of emotional and spiritual wealth and abundance)

navigating a dark night of the soul for years, you might guess that retreat and interiority tending have been big themes for me.

this past year has been something unique, though—and it’s taken me to some especially dark places.

recently i’ve feelin’ the pull to emerge. to go light.

and our larger cosmologies seem to be on a similar vibe.

last week, on june 30th—within 24 hours of the full moon in capricorn—

jupiter moved into the sign of leo, where it’ll hang out for the next year.

all the interiority nurturing we’ve been doing has been readying us to turn outward, and into the bright, bold, creative, spotlight-loving energy of the lion.

leo is a fire sign ruled by the sign, and represents heart-led living and courageous, authentic expression.

in other words, this last year we’ve been doing the work to cultivate a greater sense of safety to share and be seen in the world, as more of who we really are.

have you been feeling any of this?!

oof, i know i have—so big.

think of how the sun shines—as it is, pouring ever forth from itself, and spreading life-giving light.

the latter half of this year—the year of the fire horse, let’s also remember!—is meant for our expansion into the world, into the rooms and onto the stages we’re meant for (and perhaps the ones we’ve been shying away from).

this next year, jupiter in leo is inviting us to breathe with the fire of life, sharing our radical aliveness and joy and love and creativity with the world.

(are you readyyy?!)

i haven’t shared much yet about why i created w o v e n.

i want to do a little of that today.

if you’re in my orbit to the extent that you’ve opted in to receive my writings and emails, i sense there’s a very good chance it’s because you’re someone who’s here to expand.

to grow big-ly and fully into your life, your feeling, your body, your abundance, your pleasure, your power.

you’re here to live an awakened, alive life.

in other words: you’re here to live a consciously creative life.

some of you reading this might be nodding and saying, fuck, yeah, sister!

for others, there may be something subtler you feel, that’s brought you here—

like a magnetism with how i express in the world, that’s made you feel (more) curious about my work and offerings.

maybe you don’t know exactly what that subtler thing may be, yet, or even how you feel about me and what i do.

it could be that i activate or trigger you in some way, and you’re here to explore that.

maybe you like the ideas of expansion and power and pleasure and all the rest of the stuffs i’m on about, in theory—and, they also kinda scare the shit out of you.

(and let it be said: all of this—and anything else that feels real and alive in you—is great. and this is a space where we get to practice holding complexity and paradox.)

of course it’s impossible for me to ever know all of what draws people to me. but i have figured out some of the things.

most of y’all receiving this at the time of writing are ones who have come into my sphere within the last four to five years. and most are women.

this is a shift. for a lot of my earlier life, most of my friends, peers, coworkers, collaborators were men (and typically older).

and to me it’s little to do with circumstance or accident.

yes, in recent years i’ve been landing myself in rooms with more women.

yes, in the last several years i’ve emerged a pretty-gay-leaning sort of queer.

but i think it’s largely a response to a lot of the inner transformation i’ve been engineering and experiencing, manifesting as changes in my energetic coherence and outward expressions.

how i’m being in the world has been shifting a lot—becoming more authentic expressed, embodied, soft, lovingly fierce, boundaried, connected to the current of my creativity and expression (ie eros), playful, liberated—

and where it doesn’t intimidate or trigger people (across the sex and gender spectrums), which it does seem to do, more and more—

it’s been leading to what feels like far more resonance with women and feminine beings—and of a particular kind.

the kind who see and feel things in me and my field that they also want to embody or experience. that they may already be in a process of opening to or awakening.

as i see it, a role that i or any other person/guide/teacher/friend in your life plays, is as a mirror on the psyche and soul, revealing aspects of yourself, to yourself.

so if and where you see something beautiful or desirable in me, say—

and even if you think you don’t (yet) possess whatever that something is—

(and, yes, there may be ways in which it lives in me or is mine, so to speak)

on some level, in some way: you’re meeting with aspects of your own beauty, desired expression(s), desirability.

as nature ever demonstrates: all life seeks life.

it is the nature of consciousness and the creative current of live to unfold itself.

and this is part of why we have each other—to see and meet and evoke our mutual becoming.

so.

if you’re here, i think chances are pretty good that you’re moving and becoming according to a similar curriculum, and there’s some way, or ways, we’re here to support each other.

(as ram dass used to say: we’re all just walking each other home.)

it’s worth saying here that it’s not only magnetism that signals similarities of life paths.

some of those i may activate or trigger—who may find themselves wanting to move away from me in this era of my expression—might still be here to walk similar paths.

it just might be that we’re meeting each other at different points or cycles in our journeys, such that what arises or expresses is read more as misalignment, or polarities of paths.

it’s like how, the person i’ve become and some of the ways i now express, are of the kind that used to evoke a whole lot of aversion in me—in the form of judgment, shaming, derision, etc.

it’s like how, years ago, i read something from a rising feminine leader that really struck me, in the way that uncomfortably true things can, and it’s stayed with me:

the biggest flex is becoming the thing you used to judge.

years down the road, many death-rebirth cycles on—

through a lot of shadow work, a lot of eating of the proverbial humble pie—

i’ve found a whole lot of truth and wisdom in that sentiment.

(better believe, we’re gonna revisit this spicy-juicy thread in subsequent writings…)

so, let’s hold that in our respective journeys of inquiry and becoming, there’s some kind of

on-purposeness to our landing in this space together…

and let’s return to jupiter and cancer for a moment.

being the ruling planet/archetype of my rising sign, sagittarius, jupiter is considered the ruler of my astrological chart.

and my north node—that karmic point, that point of destiny, toward which the paths of one’s life are ultimately moving—is in cancer.

and in the eighth house (‘cause i’m here to be a spiritual baddie, apparently).

we’ve talked a little bit about the characteristics of the archetype of cancer.

so, what’s the deal with the eighth house?

widely considered the darkest of the twelve houses (weee!), it governs such domains as the unseen and esotericism, death and rebirth, intimacy and sexuality, taboo, tantra, mysticism, money and shared resources, legacy, and more.

(more on all of this birth chart diving in subsequent writings, because it’s really interesting stuff to ponder in the contexts of identity and personal development work, things like business strategy, shadow work, etc…and i’ve got some 1:1 offers comin’ your way to help with it all.)

simply put: this kid is designed for a life centered on profound expansion and transformation, psycho-spiritual nurturing and the cultivation of emotional vulnerability, and intimacy with all things deep and dark…in order to experience holistic abundance.

so, that’s all very…intense. alchemical.

and tbh, my nervous system and i have had some real feelings about and a whole lot of resistance to accepting this soul-curriculum, this kind of blueprinting…(a story for another day)

what i started to realize at a certain point, though, and what’s pretty cool about this—

you know who’s similarly designed?

the feminine, herself.

yeah.

all this kinda stuff that we’ve been conditioned to fear, and to want to move away from,

and feel is bad, and too much…

living into and embodying a lot our essence, our design, our power and purpose, actually requires embracing a lot of this stuff.

i’ve often characterized the last twenty-five(ish) years of my life, variously, as:

a healing journey.

a journey of transformation.

a path of creative living.

what i’ve been coming to realize over the last several years, is how, in a more fundamental sense, they’re the same thing.

that paths of healing, transformation, creative living—these are all characteristics of a more essential one: a path of empowering and embodying the feminine.

to some that may seem like an obvious, duh, sort of life path for a woman to be on.

but what i’ve realized is that (actually, and sadly) for a lot of us women and feminine-led beings this path is not a given or guarantee.

it’s one most of us have to consciously choose.

and choose again and again, as a practice of devotion.

against odds, and through living a long time in some deep and wild distortions in my relationships to the feminine (and the masculine both), and with myself as woman—this is the path i’ve taken to choosing.

a path that holds creativity, soft power, alchemical transformation, regeneration and renewal, as among our blueprints and birthrights of being.

and you know what started happening when i said yes?

when i got clearer, and more trusting of myself and my path, more intentional, more devotional?

more and more women and feminine beings carrying similar codes, ones longing for similar expressions, began finding their ways into my orbit and inner circles.

(and amazing, amazing ones, at that.)

let’s come back to jupiter in leo for a sec.

this is a year to step more fully into the spotlight, and more authentically—and that’s great.

but how do we actually do that?

how do we become courageous enough to even put ourselves out there?

what does it mean to become not just more visible, but more authentic?

we don’t talk enough about this behind-the-scenes stuff.

we don’t talk enough about all the (largely) unseen, unsexy, work it takes to be able to step out onto the stage of our lives and show the world who the fuck we are.

and we certainly do not talk enough about the role our senses of safety play in all of this empowerment, embodiment, integrity stuff.

this is a lot of what matters most.

and it’s some of what w o v e n is about exploring.

it’s what a lot of my entire creative ecosystem is about, really.

this includes my podcast, the luminous slow.

my use of the word ecosystem to describe what i’m developing is very intentional.

my growing body of written and spoken offerings are designed to interweave with each other, to more dimensionally and (w)holistically support learning, empowerment, visioning, and transformation.

if you’d like to follow more of the threads of this writing, and expand on some of themes of my work, i invite you to listen to the latest episode of my podcast. (available on spotify, apple podcasts, etc.)

<a and, i don’t know about you but, i’ve been feeeelin’ it.

perhaps you know that today marks the lunar new year, and the beginning the year of the fire horse.

it’s also a new moon (in aquarius) and an annular solar eclipse, marking the beginning of both eclipse season and pisces season.

just a few days ago, on february 13th, saturn moved into aries, beginning a 2.5 year cycle.

in late january, neptune moved into aries, initiating a thirteen-year cycle expected to have major implications on us and the world. in a few days time, on february 20th, neptune and saturn will move into conjunction at 0 degrees aries, considered a rare event.

sitting between these transitions of two outer planets into the same sign and degree, is a new moon, solar eclipse, and lunar new year.

that’s a whole lot goin’ on.

no wonder some astrologers are referring to this week, and the saturn-neptune conjunction in aries—the sign of the fiery impulse, the initiator—as the great reset.

we’ve also been talkin’ about and feeling other great, transformational energies of this time—politically, culturally, economically, ecologically.

here in early 2026, we’re in the midst of the mother of all transformations.

(we’re also—most of us reading this—entering the last month of winter, our annual invitation to incubation and integration.)

we’re at the confluence of many beginnings of cycles, which also means many endings of other cycles. a great liminalia.

i presence some of this because i feel like this time calls for a whole lot of grace. and grounding.

space to be moving and feeling our way through shifting tides.

space to be in uncertainty, in the liminality between what we’ve been and who we’re becoming.

this is a time of emotional attunement as the foundation for a year of more aligned movement.

(remember that, for all their strength and speed and fire, horses are highly sensitive, emotionally- and heart-attuned creatures that move with intention and…much of the time when left to their own devices, unhurriedly.)

as we’re here—beginning a new moon cycle, a final winter cycle, and closing out the year of the snake, that’s asked us to get clearer on who we are and where we’re going, etc.—

i invite you to consider if and where there may feel like emotional or spiritual residue is lingering from this past year.

are there feelings, emotions, words that need expression?

lingering aspects of identities or outworn patterns that have been asking to be released in support of your becoming?

as you consider where and how you want to be moving through this next cycle and year, are you also considering who you need to be? how you need to feel?

what may (still) feel like it’s an impediment your desires, that needs adjustment or integration?

if you choose to take some time to reflect on and to journal about these prompts and you feel like listening to some music, consider this gorgeousness from olafur arnauld and friends, an emotive winter solstice session.

(it runs about 15 minutes and you’ll definitely want to listen to the final song, a dawning—it feels so appropriate for the times.)

if you answered yes to emotions that need expression, and you’re one of us swimming in grief, anger/rage, fear (maybe all of the above?), consider a three-minute rage ritual in the coming days (or maybe everyday?!).

i described in a recent share on nervous system supports; many shamanic societies, if you came to a shaman or medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask you one of four questions:

when did you stop dancing?

when did you stop singing?

when did you stop being enchanted by stories?

when did you stop taking comfort in the sweet territory of silence?

where we stopped dancing, singing, being enchanted by stories, or finding comfort in silence is where we have experienced the loss of soul.

dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence are the four universal healing salves.”

something that my soul knows:

these are all ways we administer and receive t r u t h.

dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence, are ways of carrying—transmitting—what feels alive and real, what is essential. they’re ways we express and hear who we are.

what i’ve found through extended relationships with each of these medicines, is that they’re ways to share, receive, and potentiate an even more essential healing salve—that of truth.

truth, as in: fullness, wholeness, authenticity, essence, nakedness, clarity, integrity.

here are some true things that matter:

truth—seeking it, witnessing it, owning it, sharing it—has come to feel like a lifeblood for me.

and i’ve come to realize that my deepest desire for this one precious life, is to live it in ways that feel the most true. it’s to cultivate a life of courageous storytelling, and to be witnessed and celebrated in it.

the word courage—from the word coeur, or heart— once meant, “to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart.”

the thing is: as storytelling goes, i’ve tended to experience a lot of ambivalence.

for more than twenty years, i’ve felt strongly called to write and share deeply personal accounts of my life and processes. simultaneously, i’ve often felt deeply afraid and unworthy to share, to invite others’ attention, to (re)claim myself, to take up space.

i’ve desperately wanted to be witnessed (and understood) in my dimensions, darknesses, traumas, transformations, paradoxes, beauties.

to reveal more about how my mind and heart move and make sense of the world—even as i’ve struggled to find a sense of home within it.

and—but—being a highly sensitive, introverted, neuroqueer, i seem to spend a good bit of time desiring to not be perceived by anyone at all.

having been at this long enough, i’ve learned:

sharing what feels true is a liberatory practice.

and i’ve known that i can, and do, through my sharing, help others along in their own, tender journeys.

i’ve so wanted to act as a bridge—to understanding, resources, inspiration, healing—to help others feel more seen and connected.

at the same time, i’ve carried deep shame and embarrassment about aspects of my story and shadows; while i’ve known others can benefit from what i have to offer, there’s so much i’ve not wanted or felt able to share.

i’ve tended to be someone far more comfortable behind the camera lens than in front. standing behind—supporting, directing—the leaders and stars.

for many of these twenty years i’ve experienced what have felt like rather inexplicable visions, then—of publishing a memoir, of speaking on stages and in podcast interviews, of being a center of attention.

the tensions have been real.

having felt for a lot of my life like a nobody special with a nothing special sort of story, existing in a tiny corner of the world, this stuff felt alluring and…

also, like it wasn’t exactly meant for me, or someone like me.

over the years (and with varying degrees of success), i’ve done lots of things to override the impulses, ignore the calls, hide from the visions.

at a certain point, i came to realize they weren’t going to go anywhere—and indeed, if i didn’t begin listening, would only become louder and more insistent.

if i didn’t practice following the creative impulses, practice sharing, finding my authentic voice, being witnessed in ways that feel hard and vulnerable and weird, practice holding myself in the after-effects of the tellings.

and, so, i’ve been doing that.

in ways big and small, through words and pictures, dance, movement, experiences.

some of you have been witnessing me through these creative processes.

as i’ve feared, i’ve received people’s negative judgments and projections, shaming. some people have turned away.

and i’ve also received an incredible amount of nourishing and positive feedback.

i’ve heard that others have appreciated and needed my expressions, that they’ve experienced somehow medicinal effects.

incrementally, i’ve grown, cultivated more resilience and courage, and begun to grow into someone feeling more worthy and capable of taking up space in my own life and stories, as well as in the medicine i carry.

i’ve begun to feel like what i’ve been desiring to bring into form, desires form—

that what i want, wants me.

most of what i’ve felt called to express in these years, though, has not made it beyond the boundaries of my mind, hard drives, home. still, i’ve kept writing and dancing true things, going into nature and into the deep inner quiet both, to listen and hear.

with time, the healing salves have done good work.

in march of 2024, something shifted, that surprised even me: after several truly wild and painful weeks of awakening and reality-reorganization (more on that soon), i shared publicly for the first time that i’d begun writing a book.

i didn’t share what about, and i’ve said almost nothing about it since. and what’s truer to say is that i hadn’t so much begun writing a book in those weeks as i’d realized i had already started. that i, and it, had long been in the process of becoming.

someday, i’ll write… became i’m writing…

last month (for entirely related reasons), i visited arizona, where i’d initiated a really big conversation with my mom.

years and decades in the making, it was one i’d felt more fear in having than i did when “coming out” to her ten years ago.

and, it was one i’d known i’d absolutely needed to have before i could properly tend and advance a lot of other stuff in my life—because it’s all interwoven.

some of that “other stuff” needing movement, breath, attention, truth—

is this, and here, with you.

it’s bringing into form this space, and fostering relationships here. it’s returning to my podcast. it’s finishing courses and other projects i’ve been working on. it’s devotion to bringing that book into its desired form. it’s living more fully into my courageous, soul-nourishing, desires.

just like with that first “coming out” a decade ago, i’ve felt much freer these weeks since giving air to big truths.

and i know that, whatever may be ahead for me as i share more publicly what’s been going on behind the scenes, there will be healing, too.

thank you for being here.

be back with you soon,

g.

photo, above: in my (naked, true, mossy) element(s), bigly, as i’m now drawing together and weaving the first (visible) threads of this body of work and gathering space. it is my hope and intention that it is, and becomes, a powerful, supportive, collaborative dreaming and

p l a y space.

i’ve been feelin’ rather bigly in recent weeks, too, as i’ve been more actively moving toward the (live) birthing of this offering. i’m celebrating this beginning; the journey to even arrive has been a long and winding one.

speaking of long and winding:

after a lot of resisting and trying and willing and wishing otherwise, i’ve been learning (and gradually accepting) that it’s kinda my thing—process, nonlinearity, unfoldment, side-questing, slowness, emergence.

as so much of what seem to be my things stand at odds with a lot of what’s considered good and valuable and right and aspirational in our dominant culture(s) and systems, perhaps it makes sense, the acceptance part/process of my learnings.

(and it’s been w e r k.)

do you know anything about any of this, perhaps?

chances are good that some of my things are also some of your things.

(and i hear that a lot of these are big in the quantum realm, too…so let’s amend that: chances are pretty fucking good...)

that, like me, you seem to be and move and become in ways that you’ve been made to question, shame, fear, resent, feel embarrassed about, want to hide, avoid, distance from.

so here are a couple things—and unpopular perspectives—that i’ve come to and that important to name early on:

our culture(s) and conditioning (including what we develop through trauma) tend to get a whole lot of big and important stuff about us, and the world, and how things are— upside-down, and backwards, distorted, or plain wrong.

and:

there’s an immense amount of good—and what we might call god—to be found in places and spaces we’ve been told there isn’t.

(especially in the shadowy ones. for these reasons i’ve taken to calling them the sacred taboo.)

w o v e n is meant to be and offer a lot of things, which i’ll share over the course of a series of writings.

one of them is a space for the unfoldment of big (and perhaps uncomfortable or edgy) ideas like these—about what’s not working and why, and how to re-architect our perspectives (and paths!) in ways that better support and empower us.

so much more to come.

for now, i want to leave you with two questions:

what’s something about yourself or your journey (life, developmental) that you’ve been in the process of shifting your relationship to and/or accepting?

what’s something you’re feeling really curious about?

i welcome any response(s) you feel like sharing, and sitting with these yourself is also great.

dear w e a v e r s, thank you for joining me in this living experiment called w o v e n. for the gifts of your attention and energy, i offer my deep thanks and gratitude. for your curiosities, your sense of play—my excitement.

big love, soft power.

g.

w o v e n with grey tanner is a reader-supported publication.
