Welcome to September! It is a very special month at the library, because it is Library Card Sign-up Month. Every year we enter a competition with other libraries throughout the state to see who can increase their sign-ups by the highest percentage. The winning library gets a fun trophy to display year-round. Sadly, we have never won this trophy. Mostly, it's because we have so many residents who already have their library card!!!!! That being said, we'd love to win this trophy. So if you know someone who works or lives in Tilton or Northfield and doesn't have a library card, maybe encourage them to sign up this month. We are constantly taking suggestions for new benefits to add on top of everything we already offer. As a bonus, if you present your library card during the month of September at Lady Liberty's Confectionery, 939 Central St, Franklin, NH 03235, you will get 10% off your purchase!
So please help us win Library Card Sign-up Month this year by making sure you and your friends have one.

Sunflower Family Storytime (Mon 9/21 at 10:30am) Join us for a storytime and do a sunflower craft to take home!

Backpack Drive

Hall Memorial Library is hosting a Backpack Drive for back to school! We’ll be collecting items for the backpacks until Tuesday, August 25th and pickup will be available starting Wednesday, August 26th.

Want to apply for a backpack? Please take a few minutes to fill out the application using this link! Please fill out one application per child. Applications will be open until Wednesday, August 19th.

Want to donate some items? Check out this list on our website at this link or come into the library to grab a hard copy! Bring any and all donations into the library (at 18 Park Street, Northfield, NH) to the circulation desk by Tuesday, August 25th.

Book Sale

Our Annual Book Sale is coming up! Join us on Friday, August 21st from 10am to 6pm to browse our books and yard sale items! Fill a bag full of books for only $5 or $25 to get one of our brand new exclusive HML tote bags! The Friends of Hall Memorial Library will also be selling accessories for your new bag!

Got books you want to donate? We’ll take anything! Drop any and all donations off at the library by Friday, August 14th!

Summer Reading Program

Our Summer Reading Program is still going on and we’ve seen SO many of you redeem your trackers! Keep up all the hard work! If you haven’t signed up, you still can! Come in and sign up to grab your reading trackers and enter for a chance to win prizes anytime between now and August 31st!

Dear Patrons,

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible community for your outstanding patience over the last several months. We have absolutely loved hearing how eager everyone is to get back into the Teen Room—your enthusiasm for our space means the world to us!

While our extensive HVAC project took a bit longer than we initially anticipated, we have made fantastic progress. I am thrilled to officially announce that the wait is almost over: the Teen Room will fully reopen on July 1st, 2026!

We cannot wait to welcome our teens back to their dedicated space just in time for the heart of the summer. Thank you again for sticking with us through the noise and the dust. We will see you downstairs soon!

Happy June, everybody! We hope you are excited to spend your summer with us in our newly air-conditioned building!

This year, the fun starts early: you can log your reading from June 1st all the way through August 31st. For the kids, we have a challenge to earn raffle tickets toward weekly prizes, plus the chance to collect cool Jibbitz for a special library bracelet! For adults, we have a creative reading prompt sheet you can color in as you read to earn entries toward three amazing prize baskets. Make sure to stop in to sign up for our Summer Reading Program and grab your trackers!

Spring weather is finally here and we could not be more excited! Let’s celebrate with bringing back our Summer Craft Shows, Movies in the Park, and get the outside of the library ready for it at Community Yard Day! We are gearing up for our Summer Reading Program to start on June 1st and we are SO excited to share everything we have growing for this summer!

We’d also like to thank everyone for being so patient with us while our HVAC system is being installed. We thought it would be a quick, week-long project, but it’s been an entire month of our downstairs being closed, and everyone has been so patient and understanding! We’re working hard to open the space back up for everyone, we’re almost there!

Build A Friend

The Friends of Hall Memorial Library is hosting another Build-a-Friend event, on Thursday, May 7th from 5 to 6:30pm! We absolutely love having this event, it’s so fun for everyone involved! As always, registration is required, and the payment of $25 per critter is due by April 23rd to secure your spot! If payment is not received, your spot will not be held. Community Clean Up Day

As many of you know, 2026 is our “Year of Community”, so we’re all about tying in our community relationships through our programs! The Friends of Hall Memorial Library is hosting a Community Yard Day on Saturday, May 9th from 10am to 2pm! Come help clean up the yard and gardens at the library, plant flowers, and reinstall our butterfly garden! Come make the outside of the library beautiful and refreshed for summer!

On behalf of the library staff and trustees, I want to extend a huge thank you to all the community members who came out to town meetings. We had a big ask this year, and your support of us time and again means everything. We would not be half the library we are without each and everyone of you. It was fantastic seeing our community come together and we are excited to let those who were unable to attend one or both meetings know that we received full funding!

This means we can replace the broken HVAC system, reseal the brick exterior, and install an alarm system!

Buckle up! We have a lot of announcements for this month!

We Need Your Support!

We are asking all community members to let their voices be heard at the town meetings on Saturday, March 14th.

Tilton Town Meeting: Held at the Winnisquam High School Cafetorium starting at 8:00 AM.
Northfield Town Meeting: Held at Compass Classical Academy starting at 9:00 AM.

At these meetings, we will propose an amendment to the library budget. We are in desperate need of new heating and cooling equipment to keep the library at a safe and comfortable temperature. For the past three years, our system has been failing. We have applied for many grants to fix this, but unfortunately, we did not receive the funding.

Right now, we are down to just one working air conditioning unit out of the three we need. We hope that the people who value the library’s place in our town will see that this is a critical need for everyone. Please come out and support us!

GoFundMe

If you’re unable to make either of the town meetings or are not a resident that can vote, but still want to help, one way is making a donation! We have set up a GoFundMe that is raising money to help us replace our HVAC units, any donation or even just sharing the campaign goes a long way! You can access the campaign at this link!

While we welcome donations, we do not expect them! Your support and utilizing our library is so greatly appreciated always, we couldn’t do what we do without you!

Spring Fling

It’s almost time for one of our biggest events of the year…Spring Fling! Welcome in spring with us with an afternoon of family friendly fun and community love, with games, food, face painting, and most importantly…books! Join us on Friday, April 17th from 5 to 7pm for our second annual Spring Fling.

Golf Tournament

The Friends of Hall Memorial Library is hosting our very first Fundraiser Golf Tournament on Sunday, June 7th at Den Brae Golf Course! Like to golf, or know someone who does? You can sign yourself or a team up through this link, or you can find it on our website!

Craft Fair Signups

It’s almost that time of year again, our Summer Craft Shows are just around the corner and we’re officially taking vendor applications! All items must be handmade, no MLM businesses or AI art. Shows are $15 each to set up, one Saturday per month, all 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Sign up here!

Happy New Year! As we turn the page to 2026, I am thrilled to share with you what we are officially calling our Year of Community.

At the library, we often talk about how we can support the town, but the truth is that we are equally supported by you. This year, we want to bring that spirit of mutual care to the forefront by focusing on local projects, local stories, and—most importantly—all of you.

In many ways, we are looking to get back to our roots. We want to recapture that nostalgic feeling of being “home by the time the streetlights come on”—the era of neighborhood block parties and the simple kindness of watering a neighbor’s plants while they’re away.

Our world has become very large, very fast. The emergence of incredible technology and global social networks allows us to connect with people across the world in an instant. While that progress is amazing and we are certainly here for it, there is something to be said for the coziness and safety of a strong, bonded community.

To bring this vision to life, we have some fantastic programs and events planned for this year, and we cannot wait to share them all with you. Beyond our events, we will be introducing new services and supports designed specifically to help you feel that vital sense of belonging. We are bursting with new ideas to make the library feel even more like your home base.

We hope that this year, you will take the leap with us to get back to the heart of what it means to be a community. We are so excited for 2026, and we hope you will be too!

Special Updates for January at HML

Color Challenge

This year we have a fun challenge that should be great for all of our patrons to participate in. We are doing a Color Challenge! Each month we will draw a color pallet card from our Color Cube and everyone is invited to share something creative using those colors. You are welcome to submit via email (Hannah@HallMemorialLibrary.org or on our Facebook post that announces the color card of the month. We welcome all mediums for this challenge–coloring book pages, photographs, quilt blocks, paintings, anything you can think of counts! One lucky participant each month will get to pick from a variety of prizes including some of the staff submissions for the Color Challenge. Please consider participating and spreading the inspiration. This month’s color card is:

This year we are happy to announce two great additions to our online streaming services!
First up we have Kanopy, an on-demand streaming video platform that offers films, TV shows, educational videos and documentaries. Every patron will be able to login with their username and pin to have access to thousands of titles. Each user gets 10 credits a month to spend, and Kanopy Kids content is unlimited.

We also have become a Libby Advantage member! What does this mean for you? Shorter wait times for popular titles and access to more books than what is currently available. Have a title you’d like to see in Libby? Email Hannah or call us. Are you waiting for a popular title and are 97th in line? Email Hannah or call us. It’s that simple. Once you let us know what you are looking for, we will be able to check into our ability of getting that title and getting you at the top of the waitlist! We are so excited to be able to upgrade your experience this way!

One of our library patrons who writes his own poetry and is a local performance artist, is interested in leading a group once a month to share poems in a safe, welcoming, non-judgemental group. Summer is almost here, and so is summer reading! Join us this month as we kick off our exciting summer reading program with a fantastic array of events and programs. Our theme this year is "Color Our World," and we're eager to start painting our summer with stories and adventures!

Happy May! It’s last month before our Summer Reading Program kicks off and we couldn’t be more excited! But before that, make sure to check out all our awesome programs that we have going on in May!

Especially… the first Movies in the Park of the season! The first movie will be on Friday, May 30th and we will be showing the Goonies! The Riverfront Park will be open at 6pm for free food, drinks, and books, and the movie will start at dusk!

Baby Storytime & Play (Every Tues at 11am) Join Jessi and Baby J in a storytime adventure designed for you and your baby to read, connect, and play. We’ll sing, play, make music, and more to a weekly theme. Ages 0-2

Hello library supporters,

As you may or may not know, the Town of Tilton Budget Committee has decided to level-fund our budget for the upcoming year, meaning no increase from last year.

We are determined to advocate for our library's future. We will be presenting an amendment to this budget at the Tilton Town Meeting on Saturday, March 15th at 8am, and we sincerely hope you will consider joining us.

Your presence would provide invaluable support and amplify our concerns regarding the budget committee's insufficient allocation for the library. For your reference, here are some key points:

• We have two areas of increase this year:

  • We would like to give the staff a Cost of living increase (~4%)

  • Building and Grounds maintenance (the library is solely responsible for these and the costs add up quickly, luckily Northfield Public Works offered to plow our parking lot and sidewalks this winter so that is a savings of around $5,000)

• The library represents only 2.17% of the town's total budget, and our requested increase would raise that percentage to 2.44%.

We believe now more than ever that it’s important to invest in literacy, creativity, and the well-being of Tilton and its residents.
