Core Lay Betting System: Latest Results

Let’s begin with a latest result update for the core lay betting system, which has now been running a full 12 months of live betting. All progress reports showing results can be historically checked right here within our Substack.

Since my last result overview for this lay system just under a month ago, it has made £149.55 Profit. This equates to +5 points, given I am betting with a £30 fixed liability stake setup.

Over this period, we touched upon a previously highest recorded Max Drawdown level at circa -8 points, dropping approximately -£240. You can see the drop-off within the graph below, where I move the P&L out of shot.

The Importance of Mindset

It is important to see these periods and know they can happen at any time. Of course, it’s even better to see that after this period of drawdown, the right bets landed and the balance recovered to keep pushing to a new profit high.

That said, if we had started live betting right at the dip, where would your head be at? Would you be bombarding me with emails, or would you look at the P&L line with a sensible head and understand this is betting, which inevitably brings these periods?

• Do you know the highest max drawdown to date for this strategy is -8 points, but also understand that this does not guarantee it will always be the highest?

• Have you budgeted correctly, using money you feel comfortable with for your stake per bet and total investment amount?

These are critical questions to ask yourself before getting involved with any investment, especially an automated betting strategy. Acknowledging the risks is just as important as assessing the potential profit.

I hope everyone involved with the managed account service can answer the questions above correctly: your head would remain calm, you would not bombard me with emails, and you have a clear understanding of the live bet timeline recorded so far. You have a comfortable stake amount, and if challenged with a losing run, you are comfortable letting it run its course.

As a quick side example, a lot of the initial free example systems that dropped off near the start have since recovered and made money, but at the time, it felt like the end of the world for some people. I have seen this time and time again. All I want is for everyone going into this to have the right mindset.

The Q&A Section

On the subject of investment amounts and essential start-up questions, let me answer a recent survey I sent out to my managed account members. If you think I have missed a question, please drop me an email at ryan@hedgerpro.co.uk.

Q. The absolute main question is, what is my initial bankroll amount? A. I have given this a lot of thought. Simply put: you only need enough to cover your betting. There is absolutely no need to have thousands of pounds sitting in your Betfair accounts when it could be somewhere else gaining interest. For example, if the current lay system is your only system, the historical max drawdown is -8 points. Add some extra caution by doubling that to 16 points. You could start with this in your bank and be confident you won’t likely need to top it up.

I will monitor your accounts daily. If I feel any need for a funds top-up, I will contact you with plenty of time. Conversely, when we hit a winning period and the balance shoots up, you don’t need to keep that money in Betfair. I will advise you to withdraw it so it can sit in your savings elsewhere.

Q. Is it possible to run a second Betfair account, or more? A. If you have family members who don’t mind opening them and letting you run them, that is the only way I legally know how to operate multiple Betfair accounts. If you already have permission to operate them and want to link them through Hedger Pro, contact me directly. If the situation suits us both, I have no problem allowing multiple linked accounts.

Q. I will be betting using BSP, so could you please send the stats for this? A. The BSP performance is virtually identical to MTP.

With a £1 stake per bet, the Max DD is circa -8, and the overall P&L shows about the same points profit.

If I ramp that up to the £30 stake per bet shown within the published results, you can see it lines up to MTP perfectly, only with the huge benefits that come with betting BSP (avoiding the minutes-to-post impact of all bets flying on at once, unmatched bets, etc.).

Q. What should my point value per bet be? A. This comes down to your comfort level. Once we ascertain which systems will be in your portfolio and look at their historical worst possible outcomes, you can break down how much point value per bet you are happy with. I am happy to advise you on this based on your starting bankroll once we finalize your portfolio at the end of August. However, each member must enter their own stake value within the software and is responsible for activating the betting. (See the video below for how easy this is).

Q. What if I am paying 6% commission, will the BFAL systems still be profitable? A. The simple answer is yes, but obviously, you will not be as profitable as someone paying 2%.

Q. Are there any aspects of the service that you are unsure about? A. I am entirely confident in the software setup. We have painstakingly created a simple, highly effective platform that gives members full control. I am also confident in the live-tested lay system (backed by 5 years of data and a full year of live history) and the new dynamic systems I’ve developed over the past year.

If there is one thing I am “unsure” about, it is managing the mindset of the group during inevitable losing periods. I ask that everyone maintains the right mindset and respects my time and effort. My priority is managing my time effectively to provide the highest possible level of service to the accounts.

Q. Is there a forum or WhatsApp group where the BFAL group can discuss? A. Hell no. This leads directly from my previous comment about managing my time effectively. Any questions regarding your personal managed account should be between you and me, not discussed in a group. In my experience, these groups turn into daily hangouts and places for people to vent, becoming absolute time vampires. My time is better spent developing the software, refining strategies, and managing your accounts, rather than policing a scrolling thread of noise.

Q. Can I compound my staking, and does it do it automatically? A. You can compound up to the allowed maximum staking level. However, no, it does not happen automatically. You will need to log in to your managed account and manually adjust your stake when you hit specific profit points.

Q. How soon after the managed account launch will other strategies be introduced? A. Immediately. They will be available from launch. These systems have been heavily tested and are updated daily based on dynamic data (jockey, trainer, horse, or combinations bespoke to the day’s betting), rather than relying purely on broad historical data.

How to Set up Your Managed Account

Please excuse the jerky camera at one point, I am just getting used to new screen recording software. Hopefully it didn’t make you sea sick.

I will only improve with this, as it’s a useful screen recorder for demonstrations compared to my older one, anyway, I digress.

Hopefully this demonstrates exactly what we have created within Hedger Pro for managed account members to control your betting in every way, and importantly track your betting performance in a multitude of ways.

The New Systems & Portfolio Options

To wrap up, I want to give you a quick overview of the new dynamic systems and how they fit into a managed account portfolio perfectly.

These systems actively select the best jockeys for each race per day to back, or the worst to lay, based on a rolling 12 months of performance. I import this data into our much-improved research tool, trimming outlier races to create a highly tailored structure for every day’s betting.

Because this is dynamically changing daily, and because Hedger Pro V2.0 has been developing at a rate of knots, I cannot share a massive set of historical static data references. However, I can share my projected estimates based on heavy testing. (The video above shows an example of just £1 stakes making approximately 5 points profit over six days). I have had weeks that have made over 20 points profit, primarily with the back strategy.

Here is a rough breakdown of what to expect if you include these systems in your portfolio:

• Core Lay System: This is our steady, consistent performer. It carries an estimated maximum drawdown of circa -8 points, with a projected annual profit of around 60 to 100 points (averaging at the moment about 6 points a month).

• Dynamic Back (Best Jockeys or more combinations): This system will have a lower strike rate, at approximately 30%, and a larger estimated maximum drawdown somewhere circa -25 to -50 points. However, it has the potential to make upwards of 200 to 400 points profit annually.

• Dynamic Lay (Average Odds of 12 for this example, lower odds versions to come): This setup boasts a very high expected strike rate of 90% or more. The maximum drawdown is much lower, similar to the core lay system at around -7 points, with a projected annual return of roughly 60 to 100 points.

I see this daily dynamic setup as a major step forward for Hedger Pro. One day (Nigel will likely have a heart attack at the thought), Hedger Pro will probably be able to do all of this on autopilot with its daily selections integrated by AI. But for now, I am doing it manually, it is highly effective, and it is something I enjoy doing for myself anyway.

As we rapidly approach the launch of Hedger Pro V2.0, I want to provide an update on the Betting For a Living (BFAL) Managed Accounts, which will commence live betting shortly after the new version goes live.

This update today is primarily for our current managed account members and those interested in joining the project. However, if you have an active interest in automated horse racing portfolio development, you will find plenty of value here.

Before we dive into the technical updates, let’s look at the data.

Latest Results Overview

The results below show the foundational BFAL base lay betting system performance.

Since the most recent update on the 4th June available here, the system made a Profit of +£188.38.

Approach: £30 flat fixed liability stake per bet (1 point)

Point Return: +6.28 points

Duration: Just over 1 month of active betting

This performance aligns perfectly with our expected long-term monthly average profit targets.

If you are new to the BFAL Project, our core objective is to live-test new system concepts transparently in the public eye. We show the inevitable ups and downs of model development as we build a diversified, robust portfolio capable of generating a professional income using realistic stakes.

This initial lay betting system was built using Hedger Pro V1.6. As a foundational strategy, it has delivered an above-average start. However, as a professional bettor, I am always looking for optimization.

With the advanced analytical tools arriving in V2.0, I will be live-testing filter refinements to further enhance performance for our managed account members.

The Long-Term Portfolio Strategy

System 1 is merely the first building block. Over the coming months and years, the BFAL Project will publicly test additional systems. Strategies that fail to meet strict performance metrics will be discarded; those that succeed will be integrated into the managed account portfolio.

• The Ultimate Target: To return circa £20,000+ per annum utilizing a £50 flat stake.

• The Requirement: Achieving a long-term average of 400 points profit per year.

To give you some background on our current model: this lay system has been live-betting for nearly a year, backed by five years of historical research data and a strict 12-month anti-backfitting period built into the filters.

In sports betting, past performance is never a guarantee of future success. However, these metrics indicate that our selection process is highly robust. This year of live validation has given me the confidence required to formalize its entry as our initial starting block for the managed account portfolio.

V2.0 Tech Features & Complete Member Control

I can confirm that the managed account service will be fully operational before the end of August at the latest. Next week, I will be reaching out to each member individually to plan your personal investment and staking setups.

• Data Portability: Fully interactive views with the option to export your current view or your entire bet history directly to a CSV file.

This infrastructure completely isolates your BFAL Project activity from any other personal betting systems running in your standard Hedger Pro Bets Tab (though the bets will also appear there for completeness). It offers total transparency alongside absolute control.

We have designed this to be a genuinely hands-off experience. Next week, I will share a complete video walkthrough demonstrating the setup, but it is truly as simple as entering your desired stake and toggling a slider to “On.”

Rigorous Quality Assurance & Liquidity Controls

Over the past month, I have conducted extensive side-by-side testing. I mapped the live BFAL bets generated within my V1.6 account against the new processing engine in V2.0.

I am now pleased to report that everything now tallies up, factoring in that HP V2.0 actually looks at lay odds for research, not just back odds. Which does actually improves overall accuracy and performance long term.

This side-by-side test period has been vital to ensure the performance metrics translate flawlessly between versions, and has been a critical milestone before launch.

Moving forward, maintaining market liquidity is a priority. To ensure our members achieve optimal price matching, this service will remain strictly exclusive. It will never be offered as a mass-market public subscription. We will tightly regulate member volume and bet sizes.

As the administrator, I have oversight of the aggregate portfolio. If a member attempts to introduce unrealistic staking levels that threaten to absorb the available market liquidity to the detriment of the group, I have the admin tools to intervene and rebalance the pool. This ensures a fair, sustainable ecosystem for every participant.

Note: While Hedger Pro V2.0 will feature other third-party subscription systems within the Following section, the BFAL Project will remain a private, dedicated club managed personally by Nigel and myself.

But I won’t fanny about, so I’ll start by being completely transparent with you: the Hedger Pro update isn’t going to launch this week.

I know this has been a long time coming, and I deeply appreciate your patience as Nigel and I have been playing a bit of “whack-a-mole” with the final tweaks over the past few months.

I really wanted to give you the green light today, along with plenty of support to help you get started over the weekend, so I am very sorry for this extra delay. To be totally honest, I have been living and breathing this update for so many months now that the days and weeks have completely blended into one. Work and projects I have wanted to complete and maintain have all been put on ice, as this new Hedger Pro version has taken absolute priority.

Speaking of which, I have to take a moment to highlight Nigel’s sheer dedication to this project. He has pushed his absolute limits during this build, completely exceeding his own expectations of what is even technically possible with betting software.

He has been experiencing that exact same “lost in time and space” feeling right alongside me, putting a staggering amount of relentless work and complex coding into making this vision a reality. It’s been an uber grind that both of us committed to completing, and once we got deep into it, we realized this simply had to be the ultimate update.

The reason for the intense workload is that we are no longer just moving to a V1.7 update. We have made a major leap straight to V2.0.

As I mentioned in my previous post, this is designed to be our definitive, stable foundation. To put it simply, this new framework makes Hedger Pro completely incomparable to any other betting software on the market.

It has been built to completely redefine how you approach race analysis, system creation, auto-betting, and portfolio management. Every new feature is engineered to give you a massive edge and help you hit your betting goals faster.

• Zero-Effort Future Imports: Going forward, any new systems I provide won’t even require you to import anything or use up space in your Portfolio. They will run seamlessly through your Hedger Pro via my management portal, making things simpler than ever.

• Completely Reworked PB Strats: I have been heavily testing the Portfolio Bet strategies on the new platform. They use a fresh approach combining back and lay systems to utilize V2.0’s new features for stable profitability. These will be available ASAP after the V2.0 release, and as expected, this is a completely free upgrade for all registered and subscribed Portfolio Bet members.

• Exponential Bet Integration: As you know, Exponential Bet has been a standalone cloud-based service for years, but it will shortly operate fully within Hedger Pro. This is honestly the most exciting news for me, as it unlocks all of the powerful new V2.0 features that were previously unavailable to EB members.

An update on the Betting For a Living (BFAL) Project, covering our current performance metrics, development milestones for Hedger Pro V1.7, and a streamline of our digital platforms.

1. Software & Infrastructure: Hedger Pro V1.7

The foundational core of our Managed Account Service relies on the upcoming release of Hedger Pro V1.7. The upgraded bet engine and portfolio management architecture are strictly required to execute this service at scale.

• Development Status: V1.7 is now mostly functional within our developer testing environment. We are currently fine-tuning a few remaining features before advancing to a live launch.

• Back-End Admin: The administrative infrastructure for managed accounts is fully built. This setup allows me to construct bespoke portfolios, automate execution, manage staking parameters, adjust variables on the fly, and deliver precise P&L and performance analytics for each individual account.

While the development phase has extended past our original timeline, the resulting product is incomparable to our initial design. A workflow that previously would have required a week of manual implementation will now be executed in minutes—ensuring absolute accuracy across multiple portfolio scenarios. We are now in the final stress-testing period.

Rather than releasing a features walkthrough now, my priority is to finalize the build, launch the software to current members, and deliver a comprehensive walkthrough immediately after.

2. Performance & Results: Core Lay System

Our core lay betting system has been live-tested since August 2025, scaling from £1 stakes up to our current £30 baseline.

Our last update on May 13th showed a profit of £1,570.07. Accounting for all data up to yesterday’s close, the balance increased by £159.45.

This performance remains strictly on target and aligns with the expected monthly average for this strategy.

A Note on Drawdown: As the performance graph illustrates, this system absorbs inevitable losing sequences to drive net positive variance over time. Long-term capital growth requires navigating these standard drawdown and breakeven periods.

The strategic objective remains exactly as outlined in my May 13th post: stacking multiple diversified strategies to generate a baseline target of circa £20k per annum, so there is still a lot of work to do.

With the release of V1.7 will come new free systems for members, and tutorials demonstrating how to get the most out of V1.7 with its plethora of new filtering and project creation features. This will be my ongoing mission to supply you constantly with new demonstration content that helps you use Hedger Pro as it’s intended, to make money from your horse racing betting using Betfair.

There is a lot to come as soon as the flood gates burst with V1.7. I am only quiet at the moment because I want to dedicate my time to getting this new version with you as quickly as possible.

We are currently in the final stages of the Hedger Pro V1.7 update. This version is a major leap forward, featuring a total UI overhaul and powerful new system-building tools. The Roadmap to Launch

Once V1.7 drops, I will migrate our current BFAL lay system and run side-by-side comparisons to ensure it’s performing exactly as it does on V1.6. I’ll also be looking at where the new V1.7 features can give us a performance “bump.”

A key part of this setup is managing liquidity. I’m building out different “interval” versions to spread bets across various minutes to post. This ensures the market stays fresh and allows members to choose plans based on their own stake volumes—a vital step for the long-term longevity of the service.

Progress Update

We are currently in the refining and final bug-testing phase. Seeing dormant features in the pipeline finally fire into life has been a massive buzz. While I can’t give a definitive launch date until the final “clean sweep” is finished, I can confidently say we are getting very close. Nigel has truly pushed his developer skills to the limit to get this over the line, and the results are going to be worth the wait.

I planned to record a video walkthrough of the new V1.7 features this week, but Nigel has asked me to hold off. He’s currently fine-tuning the final interface, and since the layout will look even sharper by next week, I’d rather wait and show you the finished article than something that is already out of date.

The V1.6 BFAL lay system has been running well in the background since August 2025.

• Total Live Profit: £1,570.07 (scaling from £1 up to £30 stakes).

• Point Performance: Approx. 55 points of profit to date.

• Monthly Average: Holding steady at 5.7 to 6 points per month.

The Reality Check: While a steady 5.7 to 6-point average is a solid result so far, at £100 stakes, which as you can see from the graph has had some decent growth, and weathered drawdown periods.

This point average equates to between £570 and £600 per month betting £100 stake per bet. Which I know not everyone will want to commit to that level immediately, but that can be built up to over time.

While those returns certainly help with bills or a mortgage payment, they don’t yet reach the level the project name suggests. Our target for the BFAL Project is a net average of 17 points per month. At £100 stakes, that crosses the £20k+ per annum mark—and even at £50 stakes, a £10k return represents a substantial secondary income.

This current phase is our starting block. We are building the engine required to hit those higher targets and, more importantly, sustain them through robust, tailored portfolios. The goal has never changed: to create automated systems that make a genuine difference to your bottom line. By sharing my results and progress here, I’m laying the groundwork for members to eventually ‘bet for a living,’ or at least make a significant dent in life’s expenses.

If you’ve been hanging out in the Hedger Pro Telegram group, you’ve already seen the “spy shots” of what’s cooking in V1.7. I know the big question on everyone’s lips: “When do we actually get our hands on it?”

I’ll be straight with you—the delay has been significant. But it’s down to one thing: Scale. We are building a beast here, and when you’re dealing with software that places bets with your hard-earned cash, “good enough” isn’t good enough. Nobody wants a buggy release that fumbles a stake.

The Timeline

Looking at the current development build, I expect V1.7 to be with you in six to eight weeks. If we can pull that forward, we will, but it all depends on how the live bet testing shakes out.

The biggest hurdle? The data. Nigel has been working tirelessly on a total data overhaul. We’re moving beyond simple numbers to a system that offers deeper analysis and more actionable insights. We’re currently in the “finessing” stage—moving from “it works” to “it’s polished.”

The “Betting For a Living” (BFAL) Project

For those of you on the Managed Account service, you know the deal: we go live once V1.7 is battle-tested.

I’ve been running the core BFAL lay system since August 2025. It’s been an 8.5-month journey of transparency—the ups, the downs, and the “boring” middle parts. I started at £1 stakes, built to £10, and we are now sitting at £30 per bet.

You can see from the graph below and in my last BFAL post, we were on the wrong end of a tough February.

The Results Since March 10th: Since our last update on March 9th (where we were weathering a tough February drawdown), the system has roared back.

• Profit: +£419.58 (at £30 fixed liability)

• Points: +14 points in just 5 weeks and 4 days.

• Total Progress: Over 50 points profit since we started.

Is 14 points in 5 weeks “retire to the beach” money? No. And I’ve always been honest about that. It covers the council tax, but it doesn’t buy the house. Yet.

The Path to £20k+ Per Year

V1.7 is the foundation. It provides the filters and automation we need to move from “manual slog” to “professional grade.”

The goal is to get this core system (plus the new complementary systems I’m testing) up to 400 points annually. At a £50 stake, that’s £20k a year. That is when this truly becomes Betting For a Living.

Because UK horse racing liquidity is a fickle beast, I’m building “timed groups” and multiple portfolio versions to ensure we don’t move the markets ourselves. It’s a bespoke, hands-off service designed to hit targets systematically.

Managing Volatility: NK-5 System Testing

The NK-5 systems that is currently within its 60 day test phase, specifically the NK-5 series and Alan Blacklaw’s systems—high-odds, high-variance strategies designed for long-term growth. Transparency is key here: the NK-5 series saw a significant correction during the final 12 days of March, losing 60.00 points collectively across the five models.

While the long-term data remains substantial—with NK-5 System 4 alone up over 780 points for the year—the recent dip is a clear reminder that these are “gung-ho” models. They are designed for those with the bankroll and temperament to handle sharp swings in exchange for the long-term value that high-odds backing provides.

Data Integrity: Exponential Bet Correction

As part of our commitment to total transparency, we recently identified and corrected a data anomaly within the Exponential Bet figures. This is now fully resolved for Sure Favs, so expect a noticeable upturn in performance, and our reported results have been recalibrated to the verified baseline.

Even with this correction, the core fundamentals remain sound:

• Racing Lays & Place Lay Multi: While currently in a quieter period, both systems are operating well within their historical parameters and neither has breached its Max Drawdown. They remain positioned for a recovery run as we move out of the winter ground.

The Change of Season

We are now entering a new phase of the racing calendar. This shift typically brings a change in market dynamics, which we anticipate will play into the strengths of our diversified approach.

Since then, I’ve been knuckling down to finish the latest Portfolio Bet strategy bundle. You can find more details and subscribe to get involved here. I’ll be posting a full results and performance overview later this month once we have a full month of member live betting under our belts.

The Road to the March BFAL Managed Account Launch

In my January update, I promised a launch for BFAL Managed Account members by the end of March 2026. I fully intend to keep that promise, with portfolios set up and ready to trigger on April 1st.

However, we face a strategic choice regarding Version 1.7 of Hedger Pro.

This update includes an Admin Panel that allows me to manage all member portfolios, stakes, and systems from a single dashboard. Ideally, we wanted V1.7 live and tested for a month before the BFAL launch. Because V1.7 development is taking longer than anticipated, I am offering members two paths:

• Plan A (The “Wait” Option): We wait for V1.7 to be fully ready. This offers a streamlined experience and immediate access to advanced filtering and management tools that make our systems even more robust.

• Plan B (The “Proceed” Option): We start by the end of March using V1.6. This will require a significant manual “slog” on my end to set up accounts individually, but I am willing to do the work to honour the original timeline.

My preference is Plan A. Knowing what is going into V1.7, I am confident it will significantly improve Hedger Pro—not just through better metrics and filters, but from an organizational standpoint. Managing hundreds of strategies within one account will be much simpler for everyone involved.

Waiting also allows for more live testing on adjoining strategies exclusive to the BFAL Project. These are designed to run standalone or alongside the current lay betting system, tailored to individual preferences.

Performance Update: Weathering a Tough February

In the interest of transparency, let’s look at the results since my January update. As I’ve always said, I will show the ups and the downs.

From the last post until the end of play yesterday, the current lay system saw a drop of -£55.53 (based on £30 stakes). February was a testing month; we saw a drawdown of £213.42 (-7.11 points) from our January 30th high.

However, the tide is turning. As of the end of play yesterday, the balance has climbed back to £1,048.72.

This was the first time this specific strategy ran through February. Speaking with other members and our in-house expert, Alan B, it’s clear this February was a rough ride across the board. Success in auto-betting is rarely linear. Our data-driven, “zero emotion” approach allows us to absorb these periods, learn from them, and refine our timing for the future.

The Big Picture: Why We Diversify

To date, this system has been operational for 7 months. Through cautious testing and incremental stake increases, it has built a profit of over £1,000.

While £1,000 isn’t “living” money yet, it represents 35 points of profit assuming a £30 stake for the entire timeline.

At a £100 stake, that’s £6,000 per annum from a single system averaging 5 pts per month, or of course £3000 using a less dramatic leap with the staking to £50 per bet.

Our goal is to create a “layer cake” of these strategies within your portfolio to build significant financial well-being.

This is why I believe V1.7 is so vital. It’s not worth rushing into new strategies on the old version when the new filters will allow us to refine the current lay system and manage the diversification much more effectively.

The delay is purely down to the limitations of the current V1.6 strategy management tools, which make duplicating and updating circa 200+ course-specific strategies and adding BSP options a laborious manual process. Especially with the volume I have in my current portfolio.

This is the exact bottleneck that the upcoming V1.7 Hedger Pro release is designed to eliminate with strategy grouping.

The live testing for these PB strategies has been running successfully since December—we are just navigating the final technical “red tape” of the old software version to get the content to you.

We have now officially crossed the 40-point profit milestone since the Big Data Reset began.

For those who have followed the journey, you know we don’t shy away from the reality of variance.

We’ve navigated the “underwater” moments and respected the historical -48 point maximum drawdown. By maintaining discipline when the curve was flat, we are now reap the rewards as the curve moves into a clear upward trajectory.

A Personal Note on my Recent Absence

You haven’t heard from me on Substack or social media since December 19th. As the “voice” of our small, dedicated team, I know silence can be unsettling for members. In this industry, silence often suggests trouble—but for us, it usually means we are deep in development.

However, this recent silence was also due to a series of heavy personal blows. At the end of 2025, I said goodbye to a close relative who had been a pillar of my life since birth. As 2026 arrived, I lost a lifelong friend—someone my age and the picture of health—which was a profound shock and a reminder never to take life for granted. Most recently, my mother suffered a stroke.

It has been a difficult month to carry. I have used work as my therapy, laying the groundwork for 2026 alongside Nigel. We aren’t a faceless corporation; we are human, and I hope you understand that real-life events occasionally impact the workplace.

BFAL Project: Performance Update

The Betting For a Living (BFAL) project continues to move forward. Below are the results from my live Hedger Pro account, which has been running the DAILY R2R Fixed Liability Lay system.

• Balance on Nov 30, 2025: £926.56

• Balance on Jan 24, 2026: £1,104.25

• Total Increase: +£177.69 (+5.92 points using a £30 stake)

You’ll notice a flatline from late November to mid-December. This was a deliberate pause for two reasons:

1. Betfair technical issues that were affecting automation.

2. Using this account to help Nigel run diagnostic testing for V1.7.

Since resuming in mid-December, we saw a month-long break-even drawdown before hitting a profitable run. This system has remained largely unchanged since August 2025 (when I started with just £1 stakes), proving its robustness over time to handle mid December to late January no profit.

Which is a great example of how it is impossible to assess a betting system from a small sample of data. For example, if you started Mid December to late January you would need to trust the past data and betting process in order to see the end positive result.

I don’t want to change too much with DAILY R2R other than some minor tuning and filter tidying.

The Road to the March BFAL Managed Account Launch

I promised a launch for BFAL members by the end of March 2026, and I intend to keep that promise.

However, we face a choice regarding Version 1.7. This update includes an Admin Panel that allows me to manage all member portfolios, stakes, and systems from a single dashboard. Ideally, we wanted V1.7 live and tested for a month before the BFAL launch.

Because V1.7 is taking longer than expected, we are offering members two paths:

1. Plan A (The “Wait” Option): Wait for V1.7 to be fully ready. This offers a more streamlined experience and immediate access to the advanced filtering and management tools that make systems even more robust.

2. Plan B (The “Proceed” Option): We start by the end of March using V1.6. This will require a significant manual “slog” on my end to set up accounts one by one, but I am willing to do the work to honour my original timeline.

The DAILY R2R system and a few other options I’ve been live-testing will be available for those who wish to start in March.

What’s Next?

Mid-next month, I will post a detailed breakdown of the available BFAL system options, their performance, and how they work. Following that, I will contact each member individually to discuss your specific start-up options.

I watched the Peter Crouch movie last night; much like when Crouchy finally scored for Liverpool and the floodgates opened, this post is the start of a consistent flow of content for 2026.

A Note on Development & Timelines

While many of these features are guaranteed for V1.7, some may be rolled over to V1.8 if the integration process threatens to delay the release significantly.

Regarding the release date: we originally aimed to have V1.7 out before Christmas. However, as many of you noticed, the recent surge in resource requirements for the V4 engine meant we had to pivot our focus toward optimizing auto-bet performance. This necessary distraction took time away from V1.7 development.

Taking a realistic look at the remaining workload, we are now targeting mid-February for the V1.7 release. While I know this isn’t the news you wanted to hear before the holidays, the sheer scope of this update—including ground-breaking research tools and portfolio management—will make the wait worthwhile.

What’s Coming in V1.7 and V1.8

Trainer & Jockey Filtering (V1.7)

This allows you to create systems using specific trainers and jockeys in any combination.

You’ll be able to view performance data to target specific combinations under any race conditions.

In V1.7, this will function similarly to the “Course” setup, providing individual stats in greater detail for assessment.

We plan to evolve this into a more advanced “Shortlist” combination tool in V1.8.

Bet Tab Commission (V1.7)

Until now, Hedger Pro’s bet history recorded gross profit, with commission only visible on your Betfair P&L.

Because many of our members run multiple bots or software alongside Hedger Pro, Betfair’s global data isn’t always a clean reflection of your Hedger Pro performance and commission.

We are introducing Virtual Commission deductions, allowing you to set a percentage that calculates a “true” net profit within your Hedger Pro history.

Lifting the Research System Limit (V1.7)

The current 250-system limit can feel restrictive, especially for those running course-specific micro-systems.

In V1.7, we are introducing a Draft Management System. You will be able to create and import a virtually unlimited number of systems as drafts.

Grouping & Portfolio Optimization (V1.7)

To solve the issue of active system limits, we are introducing Grouping. You can now group dozens or even hundreds of systems (like trainer/jockey combinations) into a single “Active” system in your Portfolio.

This keeps your dashboard neat and significantly reduces the resource load on the software while allowing all your systems to run simultaneously.

Advanced Data Management (V1.7)

We are adding several “quality of life” features to the Bet Tab, including:

• Global CSV Export: Export your entire history, not just day-by-day.

• Archiving: Archive and unarchive specific history backups.

• Universal Settings: Change Betfair Commission, Anti-Back Fit, and MTP/BSP settings across all systems at once.

Opposites Killed & Duplicate Bet Stopper (V1.7)

You will soon have access to a report showing exactly how effective your “Kill Opposites” setting is, including daily data on how many bets were prevented.

Similarly, the Duplicate Bet Stopper will prevent multiple bets on the same horse (e.g., multiple lay bets) and provide the data to back up your decision to use it.

Stop at Profit (Target: V1.8)

A highly requested feature: the ability to set a daily profit ceiling. Once your target profit is reached for the day, the bot will cease betting.

We are also aiming to include historical stats to help you decide where to set these limits.

Staking Plans: The Ratchet (V1.8)

We will be introducing Ratchet Staking to the platform. If you aren’t familiar with this method, it’s a powerful way to lock in staking gains during winning streaks while protecting capital.

“Secret” In-Play Filters (V1.8)

We are currently negotiating access to new data filters that we believe will be a game-changer for in-play bettors. We hope to debut these in V1.8.

Research Tool Upgrades (V1.7 & V1.8)

• Date Range Research: Examine specific seasons or timeframes (V1.7).

• Streaks: View longest winning/losing runs and total winning/losing days (V1.7).

• Lowest Odds In-Running: A powerful filter for V1.8 that allows you to research horses that traded to low odds but ultimately lost—perfect for lay-to-back or back-to-lay strategies.

• Enhanced Graphing: Improved zoom and detail features for visual analysis (V1.7).

Summary

This roadmap is designed to give you more power and more insight with less friction. While the specifics of which features land in V1.7 vs. V1.8 may shift slightly during the final coding stages, these are our absolute priorities.

As we get closer to the release, I will share video demonstrations of these tools in action. Hedger Pro remains a unique tool in the market, and these updates will only widen the gap between us and the competition.

System Updates and Hedger Pro V1.7

A more efficient system update process is being implemented with the upcoming Hedger Pro V1.7.

I will provide further details in a future news post later this week. This new process will significantly reduce your effort, allowing me to remotely apply changes to the latest versions of your systems, requiring only a quick refresh and re-import from you to keep them current.

This is particularly relevant for the latest update, as Prize Money is a brand new filter now available in Hedger Pro, and it has been deployed in a number of the new systems added to this pack.

The full new update process will be explained and demonstrated for members when V1.7 is released.

The New System Versions: Detailed Analysis

System Structure Clarification

For clarification: The PB FL, PB Back, and Daytime GB systems are all GB course specific.

This means you have 59 individual systems (one for each UK course) for each main system type, which effectively combine to make just three total systems in operation: PB FL (could be classed as two systems), PB Back, and Daytime GB.

Given this structure, most of these individual micro-systems will sit redundant daily, with only the ones for the qualifying courses in operation.

1. The Latest Course Specific Fixed Liability Lay System Update (PB FL)

This update is found in the folder named PB FL, which contains two subfolders: MTP (Minutes to Post) and BSP (Betfair Starting Price). All new systems operate by selecting qualifying bets at 1 MTP.

• MTP: Bets are placed at 1 MTP direct to the live exchange using your chosen stake.

• BSP: Bets are selected at 1 MTP but placed at the published Betfair Starting Price at the start of the race.

While the results below show MTP performance, BSP generally yields slightly higher profits for most systems, apart from PB LTA.

Important Betfair Rules: Lay betting using BSP requires a minimum stake of £10 and must use Fixed Liability (not Fixed Profit).

Backing via BSP requires a minimum stake of £2. The PB FL systems use Fixed Liability, satisfying the BSP lay betting rule.

Understanding the Results Layout: For all results screenshots taken from the Portfolio Manager within Hedger Pro, the red arrowed rows below I’ve drawn on to show you were to locate the past 1 month of betting activity stats.

The figures shown above those rows reflect the entire historical data range, which begins approximately on January 1st 2021 (60 months of data).

This dual view allows us to see both the overall long-term figures and the performance as if a member had started betting just 30 days ago. The past month’s stats are split into three sections:

1. Top Black Section: Shows the total activity for all systems running concurrently (backing and laying). This corresponds to the black line on the accompanying graph.

2. Blue Stats: Show the data for all backing systems combined.

3. Red Stats: Show the data for all laying systems combined.

The PB FL systems include both Main represented as + next to each course system, and the same for the Booster systems, but with ++ next to each course system.

A booster system will have a selection at a higher odds rank at 1 MTP than the main system, for example the PB FL + system could select a 3rd ranked horse in a race, and the PB FL ++ would select a horse higher ranker, ie 4th or more in the same race if anything qualifies.

Not every race qualifies for a main and booster bet, and some races only have one or the other, a main + bet, or booster ++ bet.

These two options for each of the 59 GB courses, total 118 individual systems, that function as one combined system, or you can split them in to two systems should you prefer.

Combined (+ and ++) Results (1st Jan 2021 – 13th Dec):

• P&L (MTP): +1427 points

• Max Drawdown (MaxDD): -9 points

This version represents a major upgrade, achieving robust performance with nearly double the bet volume, but using only five core filters at each course: MTP (set to 1), Rank, Odds, Runners, and the Course filter itself.

This minimal filter approach is specifically designed to eliminate backfitting and maximize data-driven honesty in selections.

Both versions + and ++ demonstrate a very good A/E (Actual vs. Expected), which indicates consistency and value (a value over 100% is desirable).

You can choose to run both concurrently or opt for one over the other based on your risk tolerance and preference for volume vs. profit margin.

I believe this updated, stripped-back filter method makes the PB FL system a robust and reliable performer, transitioning consistently from historical data to live betting.

This is the result data if running just the + version on its own.

This is the result data if running just the ++ version on its own.

The core goal of the PB FL system remains capitalizing on the unique differences of each course to find consistent winning lay bets using only essential race data.

By operating with more bets and fewer filters, the system opens up greater daily bet activity, which naturally leads to higher volatility and is reflected in the slightly higher recorded MaxDD compared to the previous version.

However, the previous version had already exceeded its historical MaxDD when transitioning from race data to live betting, hitting a total MaxDD of -9 points for me.

While allowing the system to complete its natural profit cycle would eventually correct the balance, I concluded that this was not the most efficient route to success.

We see something that is obvious and could be improved, or we observe and let it run its cycle. In this instance, I rapidly decided that eliminating unnecessary selection filters was the right move. I opted to evolve the PB FL system into a more resilient “big data” approach using this stripped-back filter method.

The simplicity of the selection parameters is key: MTP, Rank, Odds range, and Runners count.

This approach makes the selection method incredibly honest and basic, ensuring consistency.

The live testing over the past weeks has confirmed that the transition from race data to live betting is consistent, tallying correctly against historical performance (allowing for missed days due to occasional Betfair outages).

This version update, with the PB FL + and ++ setup, feels like a complete robust system with no frills or convoluted filters required.

2. Daytime GB - Fixed Liability Course Specific Lay System

As the name suggests, this system focuses solely on meetings that conclude no later than 6 PM, typically between 4 PM and 5 PM. It targets the 4th ranked horse at 1 MTP, according to selected filters, and has been rock solid consistent from data testing to live betting.

This system is titled Daytime GB in the Zip folder, and again split in to MTP and BSP options. Both of these are betting using fixed liability.

This is a low bet volume system that bets almost every day, with only necessary filters included.

We do leverage the new Hedger Pro Prize Money filter for meetings where it impacts the selection process.

Daytime GB Results (1st Jan 2021 – 11th Dec):

• P&L (MTP): +629 Points - Very Consistent Profit

• MaxDD -3 which aligns with my recent live bet testing residing around -0.5 over the month.

• Strike Rate: Consistently High +95%

• A/E: High (Over 100%)

This system offers very steady, lower - risk fixed liability laying with a consistently high strike rate.

The past month’s zero MaxDD aligns with my live testing, where any losing bets were usually quickly recouped to keep the overall daily at zero over the rolling month figures.

The high Strike Rate will appeal to many, giving confidence for higher stakes, especially when using the BSP option.

Also, winning more days than losing will feel better than a more adventurous approach looking for more value, as A/E shows we get value longer term, but the average odds are higher than the PB FL + systems for example, and definitely much higher than the PB LTA system shown below.

This system is an excellent option for those prioritizing lower bet volume and less volatility over higher profits but with more volatility.

3. Favourite Backing System

This system targets the favourite horse in a race at 1 MTP, using a very basic set of necessary filters to find only the best opportunities, thereby avoiding any negative backfitting effects.

The consistency of this system when moving from data to live betting surprised me, especially after a week spent developing another backing system that looked promising on paper but showed a real drop-off in live performance.

I funnelled the positive learnings from that experience into this favourite backing system, which has yielded a higher Strike Rate and some very profitable days.

Favourite Backing Results (1st Jan 2021 – 11th Dec):

• P&L (MTP): +3855 points (translates to approx. £38,550 over 60 months at £10 stake, or £7,710 per annum average)

• Strike Rate: Approx. 40%

• Average Odds: Confirmed Consistent

• A/E: Strong (Over 100%)

While backing systems involve losing more bets than winning ones overall, the filters adopted target the best opportunities, using a basic set of data, including the new Prize Money at appropriate meetings, to find a consistent pattern of success.

The excellent A/E backs up the consistency and value represented. We have purposefully kept filters to a minimum, led only by what works per course, to avoid backfitting.

4. PB LTA - Lay The Favourite Fixed Profit MTP & Fixed Liability BSP Betting System

This system targets the favourite horse in a race, operating at 1 MTP, and is the only system in the pack that is not course-specific, running across all meetings.

It features a very slimmed-down set of filters, including DSLR (Days Since Last Run), Hour of the Day (12 PM to 6 PM), and a modest Prize Draw.

This is a simple and focused lay betting system included based on its consistency, value, and strong performance from race data to live bet testing.

MTP Fixed Profit Results (1st Jan 2021 – 15th Dec):

• P&L (MTP): +290 points (approx. £2,900 at £10 stake, or £580 per annum)

• Strike Rate: 56%

• Average Odds: 2.18

• A/E: Very Strong (Over 100%)

The consistent betting patterns shown in the graph tell me this is a system you can confidently leave to run unattended.

Its simplicity and efficient operation over the first few meetings of the day, specifically eliminating racing that historically has seen more favourites win, is a major strength.

For reference, betting this system at £10 stake from day one would have banked £2900, but there is significant scope to increase stakes and achieve amounts that would be more appealing.

Especially given the nature of the bet targeting the favourite in the race, hence higher bet volume on these horses.

BSP Option: The BSP option must be set at fixed liability.

While this does reduce the overall P&L as you can see above, with a total P&L at +238 points, it is a necessary factor to consider for those wishing to bet very high amounts.

However, with MTP, staking at sensible levels (£50 to £100) should ensure virtually all bets are matched, given the market volume available on the favourited.

BSP remains an option for those who want to ramp up staking further.

Running Everything Concurrently: The Full Picture

Combined Concurrent Results (1st Jan 2021 – 15th Dec):

• Total P&L: +6199 points (Average 1239.80 points per annum)

• Total MaxDD: -15 points

• A/E & SR: Highly appealing

This setup, where all systems place all qualifying bets regardless of overlap (e.g., a back and lay on the same horse), shows the most profit, a very good A/E, and high betting activity.

The systems are all quality assured, having been designed to push out filtering that encourages backfitting and validated with live bet testing.

I have my favourite set up using a selection of these systems with my maximum bank, and they have added value to my portfolio.

I do also run all of these systems at lower stakes daily via another account for test and back up purposes to ensure they are performing as expected, and for member checks.

Choosing Your Setup and Investment

The historical data and live bet testing line up perfectly. You now have several options, for example you could:

1. Run the PB FL systems alone (choosing + and/or ++).

2. Combine the Favourite Backing system with Daytime GB.

3. Combine the non-course specific Lay The Favourite system with one of the two course-specific lay systems.

4. Run everything concurrently (with or without Hedger Pro’s Kill Opposites feature).

Since all systems fire at 1 MTP, Kill Opposites will function perfectly should you decide to have the back and lay systems running together, although the stats above show total activity without this feature running.

The Portfolio Manager within Hedger Pro is there to help you come to these conclusions and find the right approach that suits your bet style and requirements.

If I was to commence running these systems concurrently, I recommend a minimum 100-point starting bank, which I believe is a comfortable amount considering the MaxDD, but I am prepared to adjust my staking as needed.

You should decide which systems are right for you, as running all may not be your optimal approach for every portfolio and combination of systems you have in operation, or not like the high bet volumes and daily duplicate and opposites colliding.

The stats do factor this in, but living with it is a different story and something for you to consider.

You can import these systems and examine all this data yourself in great detail within Hedger Pro.

⚙️ How to Import Your Systems into Hedger Pro (V1.6)

Before importing, ensure you delete all older, unused systems to make space.

The current version limit is 250 systems in Research/Auto Bet. The 236 micro-systems in this pack count as 236 systems. While the current delete process can be tedious, it will be made much easier in V1.7.

There will also be a system limit lift in Research and a much more refined set up in Portfolio,

For example, the 236 micro systems above could be imported without any deletion required, just a few simple changes, and then within Portfolio the 236 would be classed as three systems. Clever stuff, and all will be explained within my V1.7 news update.

Should you spot anything with the systems that does not look right after importing the systems, please let me know immediately, and I will check to ensure it is not an export error.

Import Process:

In Hedger Pro, go to the Research tab and select New.

Select From Keys in the pop-up box.

Open the text file within the Zip that was sent to you containing the systems, and locate the list of keys you want to import.

In this example I am looking to import the PB FL + and ++ systems from the MTP text file. Which are located in full within the PB FL MTP folder, I can identify them as MTP as they do not have BSP next to their course names.

Do not use Ctrl & A, please highlight all the keys manually by selecting the end of the final key. In this example it’s at the bottom and it’s York ++.

Just at the end of this key text begin highlighting the text as shown below, and then just highlight upwards everything else and let go when done.

Crucially: Manually highlight only the key text, starting at the end of the final key and highlighting upwards. DO NOT highlight any blank space before or after the key text, as this will cause the import to hang.

If you find that’s happening, please try again being careful not to highlight anything more than just the key text.

Copy the highlighted key text.

Return to Hedger Pro and Paste the keys into the From Keys box.

Select Add KEYED SYSTEMS. The systems will import automatically and quickly.

Then select Add KEYED SYSTEMS, and the systems will auto import in to Hedger Pro, and the box will show as Importing.

Once the systems have been imported this box will complete and close automatically.

This should only take a few seconds to finish depending on your PC and internet speed, but it is very quick.

If you see this message for more than a minute, I would guess you will have copied space within the copy and paste process, so please repeat being careful to only copy from the end of the final key text.

If you are still having an import issue and certain this isn’t the issue, please either DM me via Telegram or email Ryan@hedgerpro.co.uk.

Once the systems are imported you will see them within your Research list.

You can then start adding stakes to the systems you are using, and begin building your portfolio.

As we now head towards Christmas and New Year racing, and with V1.7 coming up soon for Hedger Pro, you will see updates to these systems based on new features that will become available within Hedger Pro.

These system updates and versions will always be optional, and any existing member will have access to these included within your membership.

In today’s post, I am providing a comprehensive results update for the Betting For a Living project.

This system, operational since August 2025, has been running largely unattended, demonstrating robust performance with only two stake adjustments made to date.

This proprietary system will be exclusively available through the upcoming Managed Account Service, scheduled for a 2026 launch. Invitations to reserve a place in the initial, small group of managed accounts will be distributed via email later this week.

These communications will contain full details regarding the included services, operational structure, projected targets, and financial thresholds for this system and others forming a powerful combined betting portfolio.

BFAL Daily R2R Lays: Results from 4th August to 30th November 2025

Overall Financial Breakdown

The total recorded profit to date is £926.56 over 119 betting days, achieved across three staking phases:

• 4th August - 10th August (7 days): Staked £1. This phase was for initial filter testing and aligning activity with research data.

• 11th August - 17th September (38 days): Staked £10. This phase was to ramp up stakes to a more realistic level, assess liquidity, and test direct exchange activity. The combined profit from the £1 and £10 staking periods totalled £169.11.

• 18th September - 30th November (74 days): Staked £30. This consistent staking period yielded a profit of £757.45.

Detailed Performance (18th September - 30th November at £30 Stake)

This 74-day period provides the most representative data for the system’s performance at a higher, consistent stake:

• Total Bets: 371

• Wins / Losses: 333 Wins / 38 Losses

• Strike Rate: 89.76%

• Maximum Drawdown (MaxDD): -£121.37 (Equates to -4.05 points)

• Total Points Profit: +25.25 points

• Average Daily Profit: +0.34 points (£10.23 daily average)

Projected Annual Returns

Based on the current performance rate the system is at 124.10 points per annum:

• At £30 Fixed Liability, the projected annual profit is circa £3,723.

• At a comfortable £50 Fixed Liability, the projected annual profit is circa £6,205.

• Switching to £100 Best Price (BSP) could yield returns of circa £12,410+.

These returns represent a significant, controlled, and low-risk contribution to an investment portfolio, with the added benefit of being tax-free. Don’t tell Rachel.

The BFAL Roadmap: Scaling for ‘Betting For a Living’

While the system’s performance provides an excellent foundation, the BFAL project’s ultimate goal requires higher returns to meet the demands of a full-time income.

System Enhancement and Development

The core lay system, while successful, is not static. Our plan includes a significant “Booster” package to enhance profitability without disrupting the current selections:

1. Booster Bets Integration: A separate set of booster bets will operate alongside the current system, designed to increase overall performance. This development, including refinement based on lessons learned from the Portfolio Bet project, is a priority scheduled for implementation over the Christmas break when things are quieter.

With these additions, the projected annual points profit is expected to move closer to +400 points per annum. This would translate to a projected return of circa £20,000 per annum at a comfortable £50 fixed liability stake, meeting the initial goal of a hands-off, tax-free, bill-paying investment.

Accessing the Managed Account Service

The systems developed for the Betting For a Living project—the Daily R2R Lays, the new Booster systems, and the two V1.7 additions—will remain exclusive to Managed Accounts.

The primary purpose of running these systems as managed accounts, is to make the BFAL project available to a dedicated group of members who bet at a level that allows them the best chance to achieve the significant results published above, without compromising system effectiveness or liquidity handling.

I wanted to send a quick note to update you on my recent activity.

While I haven’t been posting about development, rest assured I’ve been working hard; however, the volume of customer service queries has been exceptionally high.

Customer service must always be the top priority, but it has consumed a significant portion of my time, delaying progress on scheduled development tasks.

Betting For a Living: Managed Accounts Launch

While Nigel works on the V1.7 update coding and I help with testing and concept development for this massive Hedger Pro update, my other most important and immediate critical task is finalizing the Betting For a Living project for its next major phase.

This weekend, I will post a detailed result update, including a video walkthrough. More importantly, I will begin the overhaul of all course systems, incorporate the booster system, and start preparing the necessary framework to set this up as a managed account service for a small, initial member group.

• Managed Account Registration: I aim to have all managed account members for the Betting For a Living project registered later this month. This will allow me to finalize the group before the end of the year and prepare for a launch starting in mid-January 2026.

What is the difference between Portfolio Bet & a Betting For a Living Managed Account?

Portfolio Bet provides betting systems that can be imported in to your Hedger Pro account that you have full access to run out the box or modify.

You set your stakes and manage these systems yourself within Hedger Pro to either fully automate, or use as triggers to apply different betting styles from the cards section.

These systems are yours to own for a one off purchase and no recurring subscription, and are fully updated at no additional charge.

Portfolio Bet will release new systems or add updates to current portfolio bundles, such as the recent course specific systems receiving an overhaul with extra booster systems added.

Betting For a Living as a Managed Account is different because I do everything for you, including setting up your portfolio with unique systems that are unavailable anywhere else. This is my own personal portfolio I have been creating within the public eye, and with regular updates via Substack, to build and manage a set of systems that make enough money as the name suggest bet for a living.

Portfolio Bet systems are set to reach very high targets under your own management, whereas the Betting For a Living project would mean I manage your Hedger Pro account for you, apply updates automatically as and when, and handle all your staking and bet management.
