Every season, I go through the same exercise in my head: “If I had to rebuild my wardrobe from scratch, what would actually make the list?” It helps me take stock of what I really love to wear, what to get rid of from last season, and what I need to add. This year, I gave myself a budget: $1500. I narrowed it down to 9 categories that are necessary for fall. I also included alternative options for each category, so you can splurge or save based on your preferences. Let’s dive in!

Denim

Quince Stretch Straight Jeans ($50): I’ve shared these jeans for a while now because they really are great. They have a classic denim silhouette and incredible stretch for all-day comfort. They come in many different colors and washes, like this gorgeous chocolate brown for fall.

Gap High Rise ‘90s Slim Jeans ($90 $44): At the time of writing this, they are on a steep sale! Y’all know I love wearing jeans all year long, so I had to include 2 pairs for this category. These have the vintage ‘90s fit we all know and love, with low stretch. The sizing is inclusive, so you’re sure to find a fit.

Alternative options:

• Target High Rise Wide-Leg Jeans ($28): If you like wide-leg jeans, this one comes in 5 different washes and 3 different inseams. It’s midweight and fits really great. You can’t beat the price!

• AYR The LaLa ($265): This one is a spluge that is totally worth it. It’s a fitted, straight-leg jean that fits like a dream. It’s a really flattering silhouette, with it being just the right amount of straight and tapered without being too skinny.

Skirts/Dresses

Quince Organic Cotton Pintuck Maxi Skirt ($60): This is a trend I can get behind! I’ve been loving these maxi skirts all summer, and I’m definitely bringing them into the fall. It’s such an easy piece to look put together without effort.

Boden Denim Midi Dress ($199): There are a lot of denim dresses out there, but this one stood out to me. I love the darker wash, and the matching belt cinches your waist for the most flattering fit. There are infinite ways to accessorize a dress like this for any occasion.

Alternative options:

• Tuckernuck Embellished Velvet Dress ($198 $99): If you have dressier events coming up, this dress is perfect. It’s such an elegant and classy dress. Throw on your favorite heels with your evening clutch, and you’re ready!

• Boden Cord Wrap Skirt ($110): An adorable skirt that makes me excited for cooler fall days! The buttons and wrap detailing add interest to an otherwise plain skirt. I also love that it’s knee-length.

Sweaters/Cardigans

Quince Fisherman V-Neck Sweater ($50): I love their fisherman crew sweater, so when they made it into a V-neck, I was ecstatic. It has a nice weight, and the relaxed fit drapes beautifully. I personally love the navy for its versatility, but it comes in many other colors for you to choose from.

Gentle Fawn Cardigan ($158): The jacquard pattern is a fall must-have. The construction of this cardigan is outstanding, and it’s everything you want in a cozy cardigan.

Alternative options:

• A&F Shawl Collar Cardigan ($95 $76): Another cozy cardigan with beautiful detailing like the shawl collar and tie waist.

Outerwear

Quince Waxed Cotton Cropped Barn Jacket ($90): We have pretty warm fall weather here in Texas, so I chose one piece of outerwear that is most versatile. It’s functional because of its water-resistant waxed cotton, and the barn jacket style goes with almost everything.

Alternative options:

• Varley Light Jacket ($188): What a chic jacket! It’s lightweight and makes a great transitional piece.

• Tuckernuck Leopard Tweed Jacket ($148): I love adding leopard print into my outfits, and this one is fabulous. You can easily wear this to a more formal setting and to dinner with your girlfriends.

• Zara Faux Leather Jacket ($119): This is a great oversized jacket that stands out with its faux leather outer shell. The high collar and shoulder-tab detailing are the cherry on top.

• Evereve Raglan Bomber ($148): Another great transitional piece! The bomber style is really flattering, and the chocolate brown is perfect for the colder months ahead.

Shoes

Anthropologie Loafer Mules ($170): These scream fall, and I love them! The brown suede with a loafer style is an essential fall combination, but it also has the comfort of mules?! It’s perfect!

Madewell Suede Flats ($98): I love this in blue, called “Curfew.” It goes with everything, and a classic ballet flat is a must for fall.

Alternative option:

Sam Edelman Woven Flats ($150): This is such a versatile shoe. It pairs well with office wear and casual weekend outfits. The woven detail is my favorite.

Tops

Quince Cashmere Polo Top ($80): A preppy top that will easily elevate any pants or skirt you wear it with. The cashmere makes it extra luxurious.

Aritzia Longsleeve ($50): This one is a basic, which can be boring, but it’s so necessary! A white long-sleeve replaces your white tee from the summer, and it becomes a blank canvas for any outfit.

Alternative options:

• TWP Boyfriend Shirt ($395): You can’t go through fall without a crisp, white button-down shirt. Here are three of my favorites at three different price points. This one is beautifully crafted. It’s Italian cotton shirting at its best with details like a concealed placket, curved hem, and chest patch pocket. It’s so chic.

• AYR Button-Down Shirt ($165): This one is a crowd favorite. It’s beloved for its universally flattering cut, and I love it too!

• Quince Relaxed Oxford Shirt ($40): It’s made of organic cotton and is a great button-down shirt. It’s budget-friendly and comes in 4 different colors.

Trousers

Lyssé Ankle Pant ($98): This fit-and-flare pant will be a workhorse in your fall wardrobe. Dress it up or down; it truly goes with everything. I personally love the chocolate brown color.

Alternative options:

Ruti Barrel Leg Pants ($249): I’ve shared these pants repeatedly, and for good reason. I wore them through the summer, and I’ll bring them into the fall. The barrel leg silhouette is so flattering, and they are extremely comfortable. The fall colors are gorgeous!

Lyssé Crop Pant ($148): A fun plaid pant is always good to have!

Blazers

Zara Cropped Blazer ($109): Not a classic blazer, but that’s why I love it! It’s great for easily adding interest to a plain outfit.

Alternative options:

Ann Taylor Tweed Blazer ($209): If you are looking for a classic blazer, look no further. This is a great blazer to have in your wardrobe. The tweed is timeless, and the silhouette is beautiful.

Accessories

Minnie Yorker Scarf ($58): A scarf is a must-have accessory. This oversized bandana scarf is very on-trend and comes in the prettiest colors. I can’t wait to wear mine this fall.

JW Pei Burgundy Shoulder Bag ($149): A great everyday bag for the fall in this deep burgundy. I love the long straps, so it’s easy to put on and take off.

Alternative options:

Madewell Suede Shoulder Bag ($188): This adorable shoulder bag easily fits all your everyday items and works for a night out. It comes in 3 beautiful fall colors, but I personally love the “Sangria” color.

And that's my fall wardrobe, rebuilt from the ground up. Nine categories, every piece chosen on purpose, all within the $1500 budget I gave myself. This is the exercise I'd recommend to anyone feeling stuck in their closet. Strip it back, get intentional, and buy only what truly earns its place. Vacation dressing can be a challenge! I’m breaking it all down for you right here so you can steal what you want for your next trip. From travel days to poolside afternoons to dinners out, here’s everything I packed, wore, and would happily pack again.

This is the beach look I kept coming back to. The one piece has moderate coverage and is in the prettiest color, and that patterned wrap tied everything together in the best way. This bucket hat is a vacation essential at this point, and these thongs are the ones you actually want to walk in all day.

A comfortable but elevated dinner-out dress and yes… I wear black in the summer! This organic cotton maxi dress is one of those pieces that does it all. It’s breathable, has adjustable straps, and functional pockets. The metallic sandals were comfortable, and the clutch adds color and fun.

This is the daytime look I will be wearing all summer back home. Warning: shorts are a splurge, but I have been eying them for YEARS! I just pulled the trigger, and I couldn't be happier with them! The ribbed tank and linen shirt are a staple in any wardrobe. These embroidered monogram shorts are truly effortless, so many compliments!

This is an affordable option that is now on sale! These sandals with ARCH SUPPORT are a summer favorite every year. I’I'vealked countless miles in these.

I also love the sleek look of these leather slide sandals.

I really loved this outfit! The lightweight pintuck top is so pretty (and trendy!) I paired it with my all-time favorite mini-skirt (Use code: TAMMY15), and it made the perfect vacation look. What I’m Wearing

Loungewear that still feels put-together. Comfort is non-negotiable for me these days. I want pieces that feel like loungewear but still look chic enough to wear out. My rotation has become a daily uniform — a shawl-collar half-zip, an oversized button-up in navy, and a sandwashed button-down shirt that all mix and match effortlessly. I also love a pair of shorts and a sandwashed drawstring maxi tank dress for easy warm-weather days. The fabric is butter soft, and this color looks good on every skin tone; it’s what I reach for whether I’m running errands or just lounging around the house. This dress is also proof you don’t need a heavy sweater to get fall vibes; the right color and silhouette do all the work.

Pieces that do double duty. These viral pants are even better in linen: a cropped and full-length pant that’s become one of those pieces I reach for constantly, polished enough to leave the house in, comfortable enough to live in. I paired it with a knit tank this week.

A few special pieces. A pintuck top and a fisherman V-neck sweater are both in heavy rotation; one feels a little more elevated, the other is my go-to cozy layer.

On my feet: A suede sneaker has been my everyday walk-around shoe; the double-bow detail is so darn cute, and it’s genuinely comfortable to wear, too. I also found a pair of wrap sandals under $45 that look and feel just like my designer ones. It is such a good find if you want the look without the price tag.

Jewelry: I’ve been layering a simple gold necklace with a green onyx pendant, easy to wear with everything.

At home, a kimono robe is a small luxury that makes a big difference to my mood. I’m hooked on this spa-worthy robe — soft, breathable, and it makes getting ready feel a little more special.

What’s On My Skincare Shelf

This is the part I get asked about the most. A few honest favorites right now:

• A serum and essence duo these have been in my routine for a while, and I keep coming back to them

• A face oil my pick for sensitive skin days

• A deep-pore cleansing mud mask stick — I use this 2x a week, and it’s been a game-changer; no more clogged pores. It’s not drying or cracking like a lot of clay masks either; it actually hydrates while it works. I use disposable towel wipes from Amazon to wipe it off, so there’s zero mess

• An arm and body firming cream: I'm on my second bottle and not stopping because it’s genuinely working. I’ll have whatever this brand’s founder creates; she gets it right every time

• A color corrector: my most-used color corrector. It doesn’t cake and actually keeps the undereye area hydrated, which is rare for a corrector. I love applying it with a specific brush makes all the difference in how seamless it looks

• A lip liner paired with a lip oil: this is my favorite lip combo right now. It creates a pretty neutral lip with real depth, feels super hydrating, and is completely foolproof to apply

• A hair balm that I’m so impressed with. It’s hydrating like a serum but smooths and separates like a cream. 10/10 recommend

What I’m Doing for Wellness

A few small things that have made a real difference lately:

• Daily detox/chlorophyll drops: these are a real part of my daily routine now, and I genuinely love the minty taste, which made it so easy to stick with

• A neck and shoulder foam relaxer: I started using this to stretch my neck twice a day, and it’s been a huge improvement. Even my back and shoulders feel less tight, which surprised me since I was only using it for my neck.

• Infrared sauna and cold plunge, 1-2x a week. This is the wellness habit that I’m not stopping. My skin feels softer, I’m sleeping better, and it’s become one of my favorite ways to reset each week. I bring my essence and use them before and during; the glow afterward is real.

At Home

Small thing, but this candle has been burning nonstop in my house lately. I love a rich, woody palo santo scent, and this one is a favorite of mine. If you're the same way about candles, this is the one to try.

I also never travel without this spray. It’s perfect for the boys’ clothes and for my more delicate fabrics that can’t handle a hot iron; one spritz, and everything looks fresh again.

There are so many things I’ve been loving lately that don’t have a theme. It’s just been a quiet accumulation of things that kept showing up in my rotation, on my counter, and in my bag. I’m still loving a chilled can of my colostrum soda on hot days, but I have some new fun additions. When I need an afternoon caffeine boost, instead of my usual cup of coffee or tea, I’ve been drinking this superfood powder. It gives me sustained energy and a metabolism boost! I can’t believe May has come and gone. It was a wonderfully busy month, and I have absolutely no complaints. Somewhere between the longer evenings and a few too many browser tabs left open, I stumbled onto some genuinely wonderful finds. We are gearing up for Texas summer heat, but that won’t stop me from layering my outfits to add easy texture and interest. Taking care of your health is important at any age, but especially at midlife. I’ve been loving this green superfood powder and pea protein powder. I’m guilty of not getting enough greens and protein in my diet, so these have been a lifesaver. They taste great, and the pea protein comes in different flavors, too. I also take colostrum, so when I saw these colostrum sodas, I had to get them. They’re a fun treat without the guilt, and the flavors are delicious.

Another recent outfit that I loved! Navy is such an elegant color. Instead of black, which can be heavy and hot in summer, try navy for the same sleek, classic look. It gives my lashes insane volume without clumping. I fell back in love with this scalp cleansing scrub and hair mask when I needed to give my hair some extra TLC.

• BritsBarre - I take her online & in-person classes. I love her technique; she’s easy to follow and has quick 10-minute to 60-minute options. She plans the entire week out to target the entire body.

• The Sculpt Society - They have classes geared toward mid-life women. They’re dynamic with dance cardio, so time flies by. Code 25Tammy

• Tracy Anderson - You don’t need a studio for this infamous workout, because they now have online classes. It’s not like any other workouts, and if you want abs, start there!

Every spring, I fall for refreshing my entire wardrobe. Maybe it’s the change in season or a case of spring cleaning, but I overwhelm myself with taking inventory of my closet and, more importantly, deciding what newness to add. I’m sure I’m not alone in this struggle! Breathing fresh life into your wardrobe doesn’t have to break the bank. It took me years to figure out that alot of products aren't meant for us, midlife women. Our skin and hair have different needs now. So this year, I'm skipping the noise and sharing only the products that have actually earned a place in my routine. Consider this your cheat sheet!

Skincare

Sunday Riley Cleanser: I love this mudlike cream cleanser because it’s gentle yet powerful. It’s been a staple for many years. I’ve also used 2 bottles of this gentle cleanser. If you have acne-prone skin, I love this one.

Creame de le Mer This is the ideal time to try or repurchase luxe skincare. This cream is something I always have in my routine! Warning, it’s worth it! If you are looking for next-level skincare, this is what I have been using, and my skin loves it!

Estee Lauder Night Repair Serum: This serum targets fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness, and elasticity. I’ve gone through multiple bottles. Very impressed with this and this too.

Clarins Double Serum: You need to have a watery serum in your routine, and Clarins is a favorite! My skin drinks it up, and I’m left with soft plum and glowing skin. I also rotate this luxe brand!

Sunday Riley Lactic Acid Serum: I use this 2x a day, every day. It helps fine lines, wrinkles, and pores. I stock up on this whenever it’s on sale. I cannot even count how many bottles I’ve emptied! After I exfoliate and layer this over to brighten and smooth.

U Beauty Eye Cream: I keep returning to this eye cream. I love how it instantly brightens and smooths your undereye area. I do love this luxe product, and this one feels very hydrating!

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner: This gentle exfoliant helps improve skin texture and leaves it glowing! I also use this on my heels to exfoliate. Definitely pick up these pads! I use this product every day in my PM routine.

Sunday Riley Vitamin C Oil: This is fantastic for dark spots, dullness, and uneven texture. It layers well with other serums and oils. This luxe version is a favorite.

La Mer Treatment Lotion: This is a splurge-worthy purchase. I distill mine into a spray bottle. This is the first layer of my skincare routine. Starting with damp skin helps the absorption of other products. This budget-friendly Korean skincare line is also impressive!

Fresh Rose Face Mist: This has been part of my routine for years. Use before your makeup, throughout the day with your makeup, and anytime for a quick refresh. I have been through several bottles of this face mist and always travel with it.

FOREO Luna: Removing all of your makeup and grime from the day is key, and this facial tool is a must.

Complexion

Supergoop Mineral Glowscreen: Mineral sunscreen leaves a whitecast. I’ve used this for years, and they have now added skincare to it! If you haven’t tried this sunscreen, this mini size is perfect. Thank me later!

It Cosmetics CC+ Foundation: An everyday favorite! It has skincare benefits and leaves a glow with medium, buildable coverage. I also have this and this in my routine, and lately I’ve been using this balm with skincare in it.

Patrick Ta Blush Duo: I didn’t think I’d love this as much as I do, but I use it all the time. You apply the powder, then the cream, and it has staying power!

Merit Blush Balm: A cream blush that is impossible to mess up. It gives you the most natural flush that lasts all day.

Hourglass Blush: Unlike other blushes, this one reflects the light most beautifully. A must-have for a radiant glow! Also love this luxe blush and reach for it often.

REFY Bronzer: My most reached-for cream bronzer. It is buildable and leaves a really natural, dewy finish. Also, I love this viral product when I want a powder bronzer.

Merit Highlighting Balm: The application is so smooth and easy. It gives you an effortless, healthy glow. This and this are also in my rotation.

Tarte Setting Spray: Your makeup will not budge with this setting spray, and it makes your skin look super smooth!

Sarah Creal Concealer: I always end up going back to this concealer. It doesn’t settle in your fine lines, and it evens out your complexion effortlessly. Layer over a color corrector like this, this, or this.

Laura Mercier Cream Shadow: A no-fuss cream eyeshadow stick. You can wear it on its own or use it as a base for your eyeshadow.

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Stick: It’s dual-ended with the perfect color combinations. It’s really all you need for a quick and easy eyeshadow look.

Merit Cream Eyeshadow: This buildable cream eyeshadow is so easy to use. You can create a dimensional look with just this one product.

ILIA Eyeshadow Palette: It’s the perfect blend of neutrals for everyday makeup. It has matte, satin, and metallic finishes. This larger palette is a new favorite with all the pretty neutral shades.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow Palette: A viral favorite with 4 warm shades that look good on everyone. Perfect for travel or to keep in your purse.

Dior Lash Primer: This is a must-have when you want wow lashes!

Lash serum This is in my routine and makes the biggest difference in my lashes and brows.

Lips

Merit Lip Liner is a sheer and hydrating product if you are looking for one. Love this lip oil too. This is a longtime favorite.

Lawless Lip Gloss: A tried and true lip gloss. It gives you a nice plumping effect, and the colors are beautiful.

YSL Lip Gloss: This will always be in my permanent makeup kit. It’s glossy and leaves your lips looking so full. This is thick hydration with peptides.

Clarins Lip Oil: It’s really hydrating and has a shimmering finish. All the colors are gorgeous!

Clarins Lip Stain: This gives the most natural tint to your lips, which you can wear alone or with a little gloss. It doesn’t dry out your lips and is really long-wearing.

Haircare

Crown Affair Overnight Repair Serum: This lightweight serum is comfortable to leave in overnight, or I use it as a styling cream. If you buy one hair product, this is what I sleep in overnight before a wash. Nothing works better at smoothing and hydrating frizzy hair.

Olaplex Pre-Shampoo Treatment: This treatment not only prevents color fading but also targets hair damage.

Davines LOVE Smoothing Shampoo: This is so hydrating and tames all your frizz. It’s great for all hair types, especially coarse hair. If I want to brighten my blonde, this is what I use.

OUAI In-Shower Shine Treatment: When I’m looking for extra shine and gloss, I’ll use this before my conditioner.

Kérastase Elixir Hair Oil: I have gone through multiple bottles. It’s super lightweight and a heat protectant! This and this are also in my routine. THIS spray made my jaw drop when I applied it before I blow-dried my frizzy hair. I did not recognize my hair!

dae Styling Cream with Taming Wand: I’m sure you’ve seen me rave about this product before, so it had to make the list. This is by far the best way I’ve found to tame frizz and keep your hair in place.

K18 Leave-In Mask: I 100% stock up on the large size of this in-shower treatment I’ve used for years! A must for chemically processed hair.

K18 Dry Shampoo: The hype is justified. It’s actually a wet mist, works crazy well, and it doesn’t leave a white cast.

Crown Affair Dry Shampoo Powder: This powder now comes in this mini travel-friendly container, and I love the mess-free application so much more! I love that you can place the powder directly where you want it, and it works beautifully.

Dolce Glow Self Tan Mousse: Just started using this and love the color. It develops in as little as 2 hours.
