plan luxury trips for other people. Destination weddings in the Caribbean. Women’s getaways that feel like the kind of exhale you forgot your body was capable of. Group trips for celebrations that become the stories people still tell ten years later.

Becoming Her: Letters by Dani Marie is a reader-supported publication. The professional headshot at the resort. The perfectly lit Instagram story from the villa. The polished narrative that skips the actual middle.

Some of us are in the middle. Building the bridge before we get to cross it. And that is not failure. That is what building actually looks like most of the time.

This is my real story.

Why I Became a Travel Adviser in the First Place

When my husband was alive, we traveled as a family on timeshares. Mexico, Hawaii, Cabo. Those trips were the best versions of us. The ones where nobody was rushing, everyone was present, and the world felt large and full of possibility.

He passed in 2021. And a lot of the structure that made those trips possible went with him.

I am a widow and a single mom of three daughters. I live with my parents right now while I rebuild everything from scratch. And the travel life I want for myself and my girls, the one where we see the world together on my own terms, is something I am actively building toward. Not something I am currently living.

I became a travel adviser because I refused to let the dream die just because the circumstances changed. I plan the trips I cannot yet take. I build the expertise. I learn the destinations, the logistics, the details. And I am working toward a future where my daughters and I board that plane because of something I built, not someone else’s timeline or someone else’s money.

That is the woman you hired when you booked through me. That is the one writing this.

The Business That Is Funding the Dream

While the travel advising side of things grows, I needed something that could actually pay the bills right now. And I found it in something I already love.

I design custom digital invitations. Weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, birthday celebrations, bachelorette trips, milestone moments of every kind. Beautiful, fully custom designs that handle RSVPs, event details, hotel information, and every logistical piece your guests need all in one place.

I market heavily through Pinterest. And it turns out Pinterest, which is one of the most underestimated platforms for small business right now, sends very intentional, purchase-ready traffic to exactly the kind of business I am building. People on Pinterest are not scrolling for entertainment. They are planning. By the time they find your pin, they are already looking for exactly what you offer.

This is not a side hustle. This is not a placeholder. This is my primary income right now, and I am not the least bit embarrassed by that. I chose a skill I genuinely love, I built a business around it, and I am using it to fund the future I want instead of waiting for someone to hand it to me.

That is something to be proud of.

How the Two Businesses Feed Each Other

Here is what became clear to me after spending time building both of these things at once.

They are not separate at all.

I am a travel adviser who specializes in destination weddings, group getaways, women’s retreats, and family travel. And I also design the custom digital invitations for those exact events. The invitation that tells guests where to fly, where to stay, how to RSVP, and makes them feel like the celebration has already started before anyone boards a plane.

When I book a client’s destination wedding, I can also build the invitation. One that handles the hotel block communication, the travel details, the RSVPs, all of it beautifully designed so the experience starts the moment guests open it on their phones.

When I plan a bachelorette group trip, I can build the digital invite that gets every girl on the same page from the very first moment.

I am also developing something new that I am figuring out in real time. The idea of a digital scrapbook, a keepsake of the trip itself, something a couple or a group receives after the celebration that lets them relive the whole experience in a beautifully designed format. I am still working out the details. The logistics are still being built. But the direction feels right because it is the same instinct that started both businesses: people deserve something beautiful to hold onto, whether that is the anticipation of a trip or the memory of one after it happens.

Nobody in the travel adviser space is building this intersection the way I am building it. That is the niche. And I am in it.

What This Space Is Actually For

Every week here I am going to tell you the truth about what it looks like to build toward something before you can fully live in it.

What it is like to plan dream trips for other people while you are still building the financial foundation to take your own. What it looks like to market a digital invitation business on Pinterest while simultaneously growing a travel advising business from scratch. What it actually feels like to do all of this as a widow and a single mom who has everything to prove to no one but herself and her three daughters.

This is not a highlight reel. This is the actual bridge, being built, in real time. And I want you here for all of it.

Talk soon,
Dani Marie
Her Memory Travel Co.

If you have a wedding, a shower, a birthday, or any celebration coming up and you want a custom digital invitation, visit me here: Dani Marie Digital Invites

Becoming Her: Letters by Dani Marie is a reader-supported publication. Or for your finances to line up. Or for some invisible version of permission that never seems to arrive no matter how long you wait for it.

I want to say something that might be uncomfortable. You are not waiting because you are not ready. You are waiting because somewhere along the way you decided that your life needed someone else’s yes to start.

And that is not responsibility. That is someone else’s timeline running your life.

What You Are Actually Waiting For

When women tell me they are not ready to travel alone, I always ask the same question: ready for what exactly?

Ready to sit on a beach and feel the sun? Ready to eat at a restaurant and not share your plate? Ready to wake up somewhere new with nowhere to be and no one to check in with?

None of those things require a travel partner. None of those things require perfect timing. None of those things require anyone’s permission but yours.

What I have come to understand, as a travel advisor and as a woman who has put her own life on hold for longer than I want to admit, is that the wait is not about logistics. It is about believing you are worth going.

The logistics are easy. I handle those every day. The decision is the hard part. And only you can make it.

What the Women Who Go Actually Say

Here is what the research shows and what women who travel solo consistently report: the fear going in is almost never about the destination. It is about themselves. About whether they can do it. About whether they deserve it.

And then they go. And something shifts.

A 2024 survey of solo female travelers found that the most commonly reported outcome was not relaxation or adventure. It was confidence. Women who traveled solo described feeling more capable, more clear about what they wanted, and more connected to themselves than they had in years.

84% of solo travelers are women. Searches for solo female travel have increased five times since before the pandemic. These women are not reckless. They are not irresponsible. They are done waiting for a life that only starts when someone else is ready.

Why I Understand the Wait Better Than Most

I lost my husband in 2021.

Before that, we traveled as a family. Timeshares in Mexico, in Hawaii, in Cabo. Those trips were some of the best memories I have. And when he passed, I thought that version of my life, the version where travel was part of it, was gone too.

I am a single mom of three daughters. I live with my parents right now while I rebuild everything from scratch. And I will be honest with you: solo travel is still on my own bucket list. My biggest fear is the same one I hear from the women I book trips for. What happens to my kids if something happens to me while I am gone?

That fear is real. I will not pretend it is not.

But here is what I have learned from being on the other side of grief and starting over. The things you keep putting off for later have a way of staying there. In the later pile. Waiting. While your life happens around them instead of because of them.

I became a travel advisor because travel was the one dream grief could not take from me. And I book trips for women who are ready to stop letting fear make that decision for them.

The Only Permission You Actually Need

You are not waiting for the right moment. The right moment has been waiting for you.

The trip does not have to be long. It does not have to be far. It does not have to be perfect. It just has to happen. Because on the other side of it is a version of you that remembers what she is capable of.

I book solo trips for women exactly like you. Women who have been putting everyone else first for so long they forgot they were allowed to want something just for themselves.

If you are ready to stop waiting, I would love to help you plan your first solo trip. But for a long time I could not. Because when you lose your person, you do not just lose them. You lose the version of your life that made sense. The trips you planned together. The home you were building together. The future you thought you had time to live.

Becoming Her Letters by Dani Marie is a reader-supported publication. After my husband passed, I made the decision to move back in with my parents. That is where I am writing this from right now. My parents’ house. Starting over from scratch.

I want to be honest about that because so much of what you see online is people writing from the finish line. The dream home. The thriving business. The “I made it” moment. And I kept wondering where the content was for the woman still in the middle of her story. Still figuring it out. Still some days barely holding it together.

So I decided to write that instead.

Why a Travel Advisor Writing From Her Parents’ House Is Still Talking About Travel

I know what you might be thinking.

If your life is still being rebuilt, why are you writing about travel?

Here is why. Travel was always the thing in my marriage that reminded me who I was. When my husband was still here, we used to take family trips. Timeshares in Cabo, in Hawaii, in Mexico. And there was something about those trips, about being somewhere new and free, that made me feel like more than just a wife or a mom. I felt like a whole person who was allowed to want things.

When he passed, I did not stop wanting things. I just stopped feeling like I had permission to want them. Because suddenly every dollar and every decision belonged to survival mode. And the girls. Always the girls.

But I never stopped dreaming about travel. And I never stopped believing it was one of the most powerful things a woman can do for herself, especially a woman who has spent years pouring herself out for everyone else.

So I became a travel advisor. Not because I had everything figured out. Because travel was the one thing I refused to let grief take from me.

What Solo Travel Really Means for Women Who Have Put Everyone Else First

Most people think solo travel is about being alone.

It is not.

It is about choosing yourself. Maybe for the first time in a long time. Maybe for the first time ever.

The women I book trips for are not running away from something. They are running toward themselves. Divorced women, single moms, widows. Women who gave everything to their families and forgot somewhere along the way that they were allowed to have something too. Women who see another woman posting from a beach in Jamaica or the Maldives and feel something stir inside them. Something that says “I want that. I deserve that.”

And here is what the data says, not just what I feel: 84% of solo travelers are women. Searches for solo female travel have increased five times since before the pandemic. Women are not just dreaming about this anymore. They are going.

The only thing standing between most of them and the trip is someone saying “you can do this, let me help you plan it.”

That is what I am here for.

What I Am Actually Building and Why You Should Come Along for It

Here is the bigger picture I want you to understand about why this Substack exists.

I am not writing from the finish line. I am writing from the middle. From my parents’ house. From the debt I am paying down. From the dream home I have not bought yet but will, on my own terms, without anyone else deciding when I am ready. From the travel life I am building for myself and my daughters one step at a time.

I want you to watch me build it.

Not because I have it all figured out. I do not. But because I think there is something real and necessary about watching a woman put herself back together in real time. Not performing strength. Actually practicing it.

Every week I am going to write you a letter. Sometimes it will be about a destination. Sometimes it will be about what a trip actually costs, with real numbers and no fluff. Sometimes it will be about what it feels like to be a single mom who still dares to dream about seeing the world. All of it is connected. All of it is the same story.

And if you have been rebuilding your own life, whether you lost a marriage, or a person, or a version of yourself you thought you knew, then I want you to know this space is for you too. You do not have to have it together to belong here. You just have to want something better and be willing to go after it.

Here Is Where to Start

If you are already subscribed, thank you. Genuinely. You being here means something.

If you just found this letter, here is what I want you to do. Subscribe and grab the free packing list I put together for women taking their first solo trip. It covers everything from your documents to the one thing most women forget that ends up mattering more than anything else they packed.

And if you are ready to stop thinking about it and actually book something, I am a travel advisor and I would love to help you plan your trip. Just reply to this email or find me on TikTok at @dani.breakingfree.

Come back next Thursday. placeholder="Type your email…" tabindex="-1">

And I think this is where a lot of creators get stuck.

Especially now.

Because there is so much information online about how to grow on YouTube, how to monetize on Substack, how to build a personal brand, how to make money with AI, how to become a creator, how to grow an audience, how to build passive income…

But nobody really talks about what happens when you learn all the systems before you actually know what you want to build around.

That was me for years.

I had the workflows.

I understood digital marketing.

I understood affiliate marketing.

I understood content systems.

I understood attraction marketing.

I understood AI workflows.

But I still felt disconnected from what I was creating because I did not yet have the niche that made everything make sense.

And weirdly enough… travel ended up becoming that niche for me.

Not because I suddenly became some luxury travel expert overnight.

Not because I knew everything about the travel industry.

But because travel finally gave my content a real world container.

It gave my storytelling somewhere to land.

The Internet Teaches Strategy Before Identity

One thing I’ve noticed about the online business world is that people are taught systems before they are taught clarity.

People learn funnels before purpose.

Automation before identity.

Growth tactics before emotional connection.

And then everyone wonders why their content feels disconnected.

I think this is why so many people burn out trying to build online businesses.

Because they are trying to force workflows onto niches they do not actually feel emotionally connected to.

Travel changed that for me because it naturally connected multiple parts of who I already was.

Lifestyle.

Storytelling.

Visual content.

Long form writing.

YouTube.

Pinterest.

Attraction marketing.

Real experiences.

Freedom.

Documentation.

Emotional transformation.

Suddenly everything started connecting together instead of feeling like separate random skills floating around in the air.

I’m Still New Enough to See the Problem Clearly

One thing I actually think is valuable about being newer in the travel industry is that I still remember how overwhelming the beginning feels.

Because it is overwhelming.

There are too many vendors.

Too many trainings.

Too many portals.

Too many suppliers.

Too many ways to market.

Too many opinions.

Too many business models.

Too many coaches telling you what you “should” be doing.

And if you are already someone who comes from the online business world or content creation world, your brain almost starts trying to build everything at once.

YouTube channel.

TikTok.

Pinterest.

Instagram.

Email list.

Substack.

Travel business.

Affiliate links.

Booking systems.

Lead magnets.

Content calendars.

It becomes mental clutter very quickly.

And this is exactly why I think Substack matters right now.

Substack Feels Like the Opposite of Internet Chaos

What I’m starting to realize is that Substack is not just a writing platform.

It is a thinking platform.

That is the difference.

TikTok moves fast.

Instagram moves fast.

Even YouTube can start feeling performance based.

But Substack feels slower in a good way.

It gives you space to process ideas fully.

To explain things fully.

To document your evolution while it is happening.

And I think beginner travel creators need that.

Not just travel creators either.

Creators in general.

Because the internet right now rewards fragmented thinking.

Short clips.

Fast hooks.

Surface level advice.

But long form writing forces clarity.

It forces you to actually understand what you believe.

And for me personally, I think that is becoming one of the biggest hidden advantages of building a niche publication.

I Don’t Think People Are Just Buying Information Anymore

This is another realization I’ve been having lately.

I do not think people are paying for information anymore.

Information is everywhere.

AI made information even more accessible.

What people are actually paying for now is perspective.

Context.

Curation.

Lived experience.

Pattern recognition.

Emotional resonance.

That changes everything.

Because suddenly your niche is not just about expertise.

It is about interpretation.

For example, there are thousands of travel creators online.

Thousands.

But not all of them are talking about travel through the lens of attraction marketing, lifestyle design, emotional clarity, content ecosystems, and building a niche media brand in real time.

That perspective is what creates differentiation.

Not perfection.

Why I Think Travel Works So Well for Attraction Marketing

I think travel naturally fits attraction marketing because people already desire the outcome emotionally.

Nobody has to convince people to want freedom.

Nobody has to convince people to want experiences.

Nobody has to convince people to want beauty, rest, connection, escape, lifestyle, memories, or adventure.

The desire already exists.

So instead of forcing sales, the content becomes about positioning.

Storytelling.

Association.

Identity.

Lifestyle.

That feels much more aligned for me personally than aggressive selling.

Because I’m not trying to pressure people into wanting travel.

I’m simply becoming the person they think of when they are finally ready to book, learn, explore, or build something around travel themselves.

That is a completely different energy.

The Bigger Realization I’m Having About Substack

The more I build this, the more I realize this is bigger than travel.

Travel is the niche vehicle.

But the actual framework could apply to almost any niche.

Fitness.

Parenting.

Homesteading.

Finance.

Wellness.

Beauty.

Relationships.

Food.

Fashion.

Creative hobbies.

The real strategy is learning how to turn your niche into a media ecosystem.

Not just a content account.

A real ecosystem.

Where your YouTube feeds your Substack.

Your Substack feeds your deeper ideas.

Your Pinterest feeds discovery.

Your stories feed connection.

Your long form content builds trust.

Your niche becomes the center point that connects everything together.

And maybe that is the part people are actually searching for when they type things like:

how to monetize on Substack

how to grow on Substack

how to make money writing online

how to monetize on YouTube

Maybe what they are really searching for is:

How do I finally build something online that actually feels connected to who I am?

Because I think that’s the question I’ve been trying to answer too.

If you’re building something similar, especially through travel, lifestyle content, or long form storytelling, I’ll be documenting the process here in real time as I learn.

You can also follow along on YouTube where I’m sharing the behind the scenes of building this content ecosystem while learning the travel industry at the same time.
<div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" most people aren’t actually looking for perfection anymore.

They’re looking for honesty.

They’re looking for someone who’s willing to tell the truth about what transformation actually looks like while it’s happening.

Not five years later.
Not from a polished mountaintop perspective.
Not from a perfectly curated “I figured it all out” version of the story.

But from the middle of it.

From the becoming.

And I think that’s why I decided to start this publication.

Not because I have everything figured out.
Not because I’ve reached the finish line.
But because I’m finally allowing myself to document what it looks like to rebuild a life in real time.

This Is a Living Archive

This Substack is not a polished success story.

It’s a living archive.

A real-time reflection of healing, rebuilding, regulating my nervous system, becoming financially stable, stepping into alignment, learning how to trust myself again, creating freedom, building a travel business, changing my lifestyle, healing my relationship with money, and becoming the woman I keep saying I want to be.

In real time.

And honestly?
That part matters.

Because for a long time, I kept waiting for some future version of myself to finally feel worthy enough to speak.

The Moment Everything Started Clicking

I kept telling myself:
“One day things are going to change.”

One day I’m going to make more money.
One day I’m going to feel stable.
One day I’m finally going to feel aligned.
One day I’ll become the version of me I keep seeing in my mind.

But when I really sat with my life… I had to admit something uncomfortable to myself.

I wasn’t actually choosing differently in the present.

I was still saying yes to things that drained me.
Still forcing things that didn’t feel right.
Still ignoring what my body was trying to tell me.
Still trying to “push through” situations that were clearly creating more stress inside my nervous system.

And I kept convincing myself that eventually it would all pay off.

That eventually all the overextending, overthinking, forcing, surviving, and self-abandonment would somehow magically turn into alignment later.

But that’s not how it works.

You do not create a different reality later while continuously choosing misalignment now.

That realization changed so much for me.

Manifestation Is Happening in the Present

Because I started realizing manifestation isn’t just about what you want someday.

It’s about what you continue to tolerate today.

It’s about the decisions you make when nobody’s clapping for you yet.
The boundaries you honor before the external evidence appears.
The way you speak to yourself in the present moment.
The opportunities you choose.
The things you stop forcing.
The way your body feels when you say yes to something.
The moments your intuition whispers, “This isn’t right,” and whether or not you actually listen.

And I think for a long time, I disconnected manifestation from the body.

I thought manifestation mostly lived in the mind.

Positive thinking.
Visualization.
Affirmations.
Mindset work.

And while I still believe those things can absolutely help… I think the missing piece for me was nervous system regulation and alignment.

Your Body Always Knows First

Because your body always knows first.

Your body knows when something is draining you.
Your body knows when something feels unsafe.
Your body knows when something feels forced.
Your body knows when you’re abandoning yourself just to survive.

And I think a lot of us have normalized survival so deeply that we don’t even realize how disconnected we’ve become from ourselves.

That realization alone has been changing the way I move through my life.

Even with something as simple as health.

Lately, I’ve been paying more attention to how my environment affects me.
How food affects me.
How stress affects me.
How overconsumption affects me.
How constantly absorbing everybody else’s thoughts online affects me.

And the more aware I become, the more I realize healing isn’t separate from manifestation.

They’re connected.

Alignment Isn’t Just a Buzzword

Your lifestyle matters.
Your environment matters.
Your nervous system matters.
Your relationships matter.
Your body matters.

Alignment isn’t just some spiritual buzzword.

It’s what happens when your choices stop fighting your body.

That’s a huge part of what this journey is becoming for me.

Not perfection.
Not aesthetic healing.
Not pretending I have all the answers.

Just honesty.

Real honesty.

The kind where some days I feel deeply clear and other days I still feel scared.
The kind where I’m rebuilding while grieving.
The kind where I’m learning how to trust myself after spending so much time disconnected from myself.
The kind where I’m trying to create stability while also creating freedom.
The kind where I’m becoming more intentional about money instead of just surviving from one moment to the next.

Why Travel Became Part of the Vision

And honestly?
That’s also why travel has become such a big part of this next chapter for me.

Not because I’m trying to sell some fake “quit your job and live on a beach” fantasy.

But because freedom matters to me now in a way it never did before.

Flexibility matters.
Peace matters.
Lifestyle matters.
Being able to breathe matters.

I don’t just want to make money anymore.

I want to build a life that actually feels good to live.

And I think a lot of women are quietly craving that right now.

Not just success.
Not just hustle.
Not just more productivity.

But softness.
Peace.
Alignment.
Stability.
Freedom.
Safety inside their own bodies again.

What Becoming Her Means to Me

That’s what “becoming her”
