There’s real science behind this, calming the nervous system before you’re under pressure means you’re trading from a regulated state rather than a reactive one, which directly affects the quality of your decisions.

Two. They work with their subconscious mind, not against it. Most of what drives a trading decision happens beneath conscious awareness. The traders who get consistent results are the ones who’ve addressed the beliefs and patterns sitting underneath their behaviour, rather than relying on willpower alone to override them in the moment.

Three. They treat trading like a business, and protect their life outside of it. This means having a process, reviewing performance properly, and treating the account with the same seriousness you’d treat any business. At the same time, the traders who last are the ones who protect a genuine work life balance, because burnout and obsession tend to undo consistency just as fast as a bad strategy does.

Let’s get into this week’s subject, because I get asked about this constantly.

Why does hypnosis seem to create change so much faster than traditional mindset coaching?

Here are the reasons, and they come down to where the work is actually happening.

Traditional mindset coaching works at the conscious level. This is the part of you that’s aware, that’s thinking, that’s making decisions in real time. Coaching helps you notice your patterns, understand your triggers, and consciously choose a different response. It’s useful, but it relies on you remembering to apply that new choice in the exact moment your subconscious has already triggered the old one. By the time you’ve consciously caught yourself, you’re often trading live capital or trying to pass an evaluation account, and the decision’s already been made.

It also has to travel a long way to actually land. Awareness, then intention, then discipline in the moment, then finally the new behaviour. That’s a lot of stops along the way for a pattern that might be firing in under a second.

Hypnosis goes straight to where the belief, pattern or behaviour actually lives. Think of it like a bus route. Traditional coaching is the bus that stops at every stop along the way, awareness, understanding, intention, before it eventually, hopefully, reaches the destination of new behaviour. Hypnosis is the express service. It goes directly to where the fear, the belief or the habit was originally stored, and works with it there.

That’s why the shift can happen so much faster. Once the subconscious pattern itself has been addressed, the new response doesn’t need to be consciously triggered every single time. It simply becomes automatic, the same way the old pattern once was.

I’ve seen this over and over in 13 years of working with traders. Someone comes to me having already tried journaling, mindset books, coaching calls, all genuinely useful tools, and still repeating the exact same pattern. A handful of sessions later, working directly with the subconscious, that pattern has simply stopped showing up.

That’s the real difference between managing a pattern and actually changing it.

There is a particular kind of frustration that is the hardest to sit with in trading.

It is not the frustration of not knowing what you are doing wrong.

It is knowing exactly what you are doing wrong, seeing it happen in real time, and still not being able to stop it.

You might never make it out cleanly, so you kept going. Taking breaks that lasted three weeks, coming back half-committed, losing again, taking another break. Years passing inside that cycle without ever making a real decision either way.
