🔍 How to approach an IB question

When you see an IB question, it can be tempting to start writing immediately. At the same time, you might think, “I know this... but what exactly are they asking?” However, taking a few moments to break down the question may help your answer become much clearer.

You can break down the question by these simple guidelines:
- Command Term
Q: What are you being asked to do? Analyse, Discuss, Compare
- Identify the Focus
Q: What specific concept or topic is the question asking about?
- Evidence
Q: What examples or data will strengthen your answer?
- Connect it back
Q: How does each point answer the question?

Most importantly, make sure every answer is tied back to what the question is asking.

Remember: Don’t write everything you know; write only what the question is actually asking.

🎤 IB Youth Advisory Council Open Mic Night: Reflection and Insights

On Saturday, 29th August, more than 500 IB students came together to share their ideas, experiences and opinions for the first-ever IB Youth Advisory Council Open Mic Night, with IBlieve Co-Founder Katie Tracy, also the IB Youth Engagement Lead, helping supervise the event.

Across 8 breakout rooms, the students discussed key themes identified by the YAC: Program & Curriculum, Student Wellbeing, Equity & Access, and Communication & Curriculum, which the council of 12 YAC members identified as key areas for IB students. Each breakout room had a YAC member facilitating, allowing students to share the experiences that they wished would be represented to the IB.

Four IBlieve members - Ecem, Aikal, Faris and Isabella are also members of the YAC, making up one third of the council.
Reflecting on the event, Katie said:
“I had no idea what to expect from bringing 500 IB students together in one room, but I am happy to say it was incredible! The attendees shared meaningful personal experiences and advocated passionately for their schools, countries, and communities. At the same time, they were respectful and graceful to each other– even intrigued, I think, to be in the same space with hundreds of students from other parts of the world who came together because of their shared IB bond, for the first time, ever. I’m super hopeful about future Open Mic Nights, and will be eager to make sure this won’t be the last!”

Start by cleaning your physical and digital space
- Clear your desk
-Organise your notebooks and school supplies
- Rename and sort files
-Close the 20+ tabs you’ve somehow kept open all summer

Check your calendar or planner

Look out for:
-IA & EE deadlines
-Assessments
-CAS commitments

-Important dates

You don’t have to start working on everything immediately. Just know what’s coming.

👋 Welcoming Our New IBlieve Cohort

A huge welcome to everyone who has recently joined IBlieve! Our new cohort brings together IB students from different countries, IB programmes, schools, and backgrounds, all connected by a shared goal: helping make the IB journey more accessible, supportive, and connected for students around the world.

From our expanding MYP team to Design, Social Media, Communications, and many more, our new members are already getting started on projects that we can’t wait to share with you.

We recently held our first All Hands meeting of the new cohort, where everyone had the opportunity to introduce themselves, meet other members, and learn more about the different teams that make IBlieve possible.

💡 CAS Summer Ideas

Summer is the perfect time to make progress on CAS while doing something you genuinely enjoy.

Here are a few ideas:

• Volunteer with a local charity or community organisation

• Tutor younger students in subjects you’re passionate about

• Start a creative project such as photography, painting, writing, or music

• Join a student-led organisation and contribute remotely

• Learn a new skill and teach others through workshops or online content

• Begin a personal fitness challenge and reflect on your progress

Remember, CAS isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about meaningful experiences, personal growth, and reflecting on what you’ve learned along the way.

🎉 Congratulations, M26!

Congratulations to every student who completed the May 2026 IBDP! 🎉 Whether you’ve met your goals, exceeded your expectations, or are still processing your results, completing the IB is an incredible achievement.

The IB is a challenging journey, and every assignment, IA, EE draft, exam, and late-night study session has helped you grow, not just academically, but personally too. No single score can define your hard work, resilience, or potential.

If your results weren’t what you had hoped for, please know that this is not the end of your journey. There are always pathways forward, and many successful IB graduates have faced setbacks before finding the right opportunity for them.

We’ve also shared an Instagram post with advice and guidance for students who may not have received the results they were hoping for. If you or someone you know needs it, we encourage you to take a look and remember that you’re not alone.

No matter where your next chapter takes you whether to university, a gap year, or another exciting opportunity, we're incredibly proud of everything you've accomplished. Congratulations once again, and we wish you all the very best for the future!

🤔 Why Students Choose the IB?

We asked IB students and graduates from around the world why they chose the IB and what they gained from the experience. Their responses highlighted a few common themes:

1. To challenge themselves: Many students chose the IB because they wanted a rigorous programme that would push them academically and help them grow beyond their comfort zones.

2. For a more holistic education: Students appreciated that the IB goes beyond traditional academics by encouraging extracurricular involvement, critical thinking, and personal development.

When asked what they had learned so far, students frequently mentioned time management, organization, communication, critical thinking, resilience, and balancing academics with extracurriculars.

The IB has a reputation for being one of the most challenging high school programmes in the world. While it certainly requires dedication, many of the stories students hear before starting aren’t entirely true.

Before starting the IB, many students hear about endless studying, impossible workloads, and constant stress. The reality is often much more balanced than the stereotypes suggest. One of the biggest surprises for many students is that the IB isn’t just about academics. Through CAS/Service as Action, the Extended Essay, the Personal Project, leadership opportunities, and collaboration with peers, students often develop skills that go far beyond the classroom. Many graduates look back and realize that while the workload was demanding, the confidence and independence they gained were just as valuable as the grades themselves.

The IB experience is different for everyone, but one thing remains true: it is rarely as scary as the myths make it seem. The key is finding a balance that works for you and remembering that growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone.

📑 Transitioning Into the IB: What to Expect

Starting the DP can feel like a big jump, especially for students coming from MYP or other curriculums.

Some of the biggest changes include:

• Remind yourself why you started

Remember: consistency matters more than perfection. Even small progress each day adds up over time.

Exam season can feel overwhelming, especially when balancing multiple subjects and expectations.

A few ways to manage stress more effectively:

• Focus on one exam at a time

• Avoid comparing your progress with others

• Prioritize sleep and rest before exams

📌 Where You Should Be After DP1

By the end of DP1, you don’t need everything perfectly completed, but you should ideally have:

• A clear Extended Essay topic and its action plan

• Initial ideas or progress for your IAs

• A good amount of prep for most key concepts in each subject

If you’re not fully there yet, that’s completely okay. Summer is the perfect time to catch up and strengthen these areas gradually.

🧠 What to Focus on This Summer

Instead of trying to do everything at once, focus on few key priorities:

• Extended Essay - Finalize your topic and start working on your draft

• Internal Assessments - Build strong ideas or complete initial drafts

• Weak topics - Revise areas you struggled with in DP1

• CAS - Try to do as many CAS activities as you can

This way, you enter DP2 with more clarity and less pressure.

🎓 Balancing IB Work with College Prep

For many students, summer is also when college preparation becomes more real and effective.

You can keep this light and consistent by:

• Researching universities and courses

• Exploring your potential career paths

• Starting to think about personal statements or applications

• Building your extracurriculars

Remember, you don’t need to have everything figured out. Small, consistent steps are enough.

One of the most important things to know is that IB exams are designed to test application, not just memorization. Examiners are looking for:

1. Clear understanding of concepts

2. Ability to apply knowledge to new/unfamiliar situations

3. Use of correct terminology

4. Structured and precise answers aligned with command terms and assessment criteria.

Pay close attention to command terms like “describe“, “explain“, and “evaluate“, as they directly impact how you should answer the question. Moreover, make sure you know what each criteria’s highest score band demands from your answer to achieve those 7’s!

📌 Subject-Specific Tips to Score Better

Each subject group has a slightly different approach when it comes to scoring well. Here’s how you can maximize your marks in each:

• Group 1 (Studies in Language & Literature) - Focus on clear analysis, strong textual references, and structured responses. Make sure your arguments are well-supported and directly linked to the question.

• Group 2 (Language Acquisition) - Prioritize clarity and accuracy. Use appropriate vocabulary, stay relevant to the prompt, listen carefully in the listening paper and ensure your writing is well-structured.

• Group 3 (Individuals & Societies) - Structure your answers clearly and support them with real-world examples or case studies. Focus on evaluation and balanced arguments where required.

• Group 4 (Sciences) - Use precise terminology, show working where needed, and practice data-based and application questions. Using the correct keywords is essential for scoring.

With less than a month left, your focus should start shifting from learning new content to applying what you already know. At this stage, you should aim to:

• Have most of your syllabus covered

• Be familiar with concepts in each subject

• Start identifying your weak areas

• Practice applying concepts to exam-style questions

If you still have a few gaps, that’s completely okay. You should just focus on covering them efficiently instead of trying to relearn everything at once.

Remember: progress now comes from clarity and consistency, not last-minute cramming.

A well-structured plan can make a huge difference in how confident you feel going into exams.

Try to balance your revision like this:

1. Content review - Go over concepts and summaries

2. Ability to apply knowledge to unfamiliar situations

3. Accurate use of scientific terminology

4. Logical, well-structured answers

5. Interpretation of data and graphs

One of the most common mistakes students make is focusing only on memorizing notes. While content is important, it’s equally important to understand how to use that knowledge in different contexts.

🧠 How to Effectively Revise For Exams

One of the biggest misconceptions about exam revision is that it simply means reviewing notes over and over again. In reality, effective revision focuses on actively testing your understanding and identifying areas that need improvement.

IB exams often require students to apply concepts, analyze information, and explain reasoning, rather than just recall facts. This means that revision should focus on strengthening your critical thinking and your approach to different types of questions.

A strong revision plan usually includes:

• Reviewing key concepts from each subject/unit

• Practicing exam-style questions to build familiarity with the format

• Testing your understanding through active recall

• Identifying weak areas and revisiting them regularly

Instead of trying to revise everything at once, breaking your revision into smaller, focused sessions can make studying much more manageable and productive. You can also try making summaries of each topic to understand how much you can recall from that topic. Over time, consistent practice will help you build both confidence and clarity in each subject.

💡 5 Smart Revision Strategies That Actually Work!

Here are a few strategies that many students find especially helpful when preparing for exams:

1. Focus on past papers - They help you understand question patterns, identify commonly tested topics, and become familiar with the exam structure.

📌 Complete TOK Breakdown

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is one of the core components of the IBDP, designed to help students think about how knowledge is created, evaluated, and shared. Instead of focusing on memorizing content, TOK encourages students to question how we know what we know.

TOK is built around exploring different Areas of Knowledge (such as natural sciences or the arts) and examining the ways knowledge is formed through perspectives, evidence, and reasoning.

TOK is assessed through two main components:

1. TOK Exhibition 🖼️

   The exhibition asks students to select three real-world objects and explain how they connect to a specific TOK prompt. The goal is to show how TOK ideas appear in everyday life and real-world contexts. For this, you need to write three commentaries based on your objects.

2. TOK Essay ✍️

   The TOK Essay is a 1600-word essay responding to one of the prescribed titles released by the IB. Students are expected to analyze the question, explore different perspectives, and use strong real-world examples to support their arguments.

Both the essay and exhibition focus on critical thinking, clear arguments, and strong connections to knowledge questions, rather than simply explaining information.

💡 Key Tips to Score in TOK

While TOK may seem abstract and broad at first, a few key strategies can make a big difference in how strong your work becomes.

1. Focus on the knowledge question: Whether you are writing the essay or exhibition commentary, always keep the knowledge question at the center of your discussion. Strong TOK responses consistently link ideas back to the main prompt.

2. Use clear real-world examples: These are essential in TOK. Instead of speaking in general terms, connect your arguments to specific events, discoveries, case studies, or real-life situations.

3. Show multiple perspectives: TOK rewards balanced thinking. Strong responses often explore different viewpoints, acknowledge limitations, and consider how knowledge may vary across contexts.

4. Prioritize clarity over complexity: A clear, well-structured argument is far more effective than complicated language. Focus on explaining your ideas logically so that your reasoning is easy to follow.

5. Keep linking back to TOK concepts: Make sure you connect your discussion to knowledge, evidence, interpretation, and perspective. These are the key ideas that TOK is built around.

TOK becomes less about “getting the right answer“ and more about demonstrating thoughtful analysis and curiosity about knowledge itself when you consider these points while writing your essay or commentaries.

But let’s be honest, IAs can feel stressful. Choosing a topic, refining your research question, meeting deadlines, editing drafts… it’s a lot.

📌 Understanding the IA: What Examiners Look For

The IBDP IA is a mandatory, subject-specific coursework project or investigation conducted independently by students. It can contribute between 20%-50% of your final grade, with components like lab reports, commentaries, essays, oral commentaries, etc.

No matter the subject, examiners generally assess:

1. Clear focus and well-defined research questions

2. Strong analysis (not just description)

3. Logical structure and coherence

4. Subject-specific terminology

5. Evidence-based arguments

The biggest mistake students make is explaining what happened instead of analyzing why it matters. Understanding the rubric can dramatically improve your final grade.

If You’re DP1 (Starting Your IA):

• Choose something specific and manageable

• Avoid overly broad questions

• Ensure access to data or reliable sources

• Check that your topic allows for analysis, not just reporting

A strong IA starts with a focused, well-crafted research question.

If You’re DP2 (Finalizing Your IA):

• Re-read your research question and check if your analysis truly answers it.

• Cut unnecessary descriptions

• Strengthen evaluation and critical thinking

• Double-check formatting, citations, and word count

Small refinements at this stage can really improve clarity and coherence.

✍️ From Draft to Final Submission: Key Improvement Tips

Before submitting your IA, take a step back and review it strategically, not just grammatically.

Final-check guide:

1. Revisit your RQ: Check if it’s clearly stated and if every part of your IA answers it.

2. Strengthen analysis (not description): Examiners reward depth of thinking, not length.

3. Improve structure & flow: Clarity is always rewarded.

4. Address limitations & evaluations: In many subjects, evaluation is where top marks are earned. Avoid vague statements like “more data could improve accuracy“ and be very specific.

5. Final technical checks: Check if the word count is within limits, correct citations and formatting, label graphs, tables, and diagrams. Professional presentation strengthens credibility.

Remember: Clarity often matters more than complexity. Sometimes tightening your argument is more powerful than adding more content.

📌 Breakdown of CAS

CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service, which is a core component of the IB DP.

• 🎨 Creativity: Exploring and extending ideas leading to an original or creative product or performance.

• 🏃 Activity: Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle.

• 🤝 Service: Collaborative engagement with the community to fulfill an authentic need.

CAS is not about collecting hours. It’s about demonstrating growth through experiences and reflections.

Throughout CAS, you’re expected to:

1. Engage consistently over time

2. Undertake a CAS project (collaborative and sustained)

3. Reflect meaningfully on your experieences

4. Show evidence of the 7 CAS learning outcomes

Stages of CAS:

• Investigation, preparation, and action that meet an identified need.

• Reflection on significant experiences throughout the process to inform problem-solving and choices. This stage is especially important, as it demonstrates your understanding and personal growth. You should describe what happened, express feelings, generate ideas, and ask questions in order to complete this stage.

• Demonstration allowing for sharing of what has taken place.

The key is intentionality. CAS works best when your activities connect to your interests, values, and long-term goals.

💡 Meaningful CAS Ideas That Create Impact

Instead of choosing random activities just to “complete CAS“, think about impact and sustainability. Here are some ideas that go beyond the basics:

• Skill-based service: Use your strengths by doing activities such as creating study resources, tutoring younger students, coding a website for an NGO, etc.

• Creativity with purpose: Start a blog, art initiative, podcast, or social media campaign around a cause you care about.

• Activity with consistency: Train for a fitness goal, join a sports team, or start a weekly wellness club at school.

• Long-term community projects: Organize a sustained initiative such as a fundraising series or awareness programs.

Key point: Admission officers and university coordinators value commitment and leadership more than scattered participation. Strong CAS projects can also meaningfully strengthen your overall profile.

A fun fact about myself is that, I’ve trained in vocals for over 12 years and actively compete in track and field!

Anna Freire-Gibb

Hi!! My name is Anna, I’m Spanish Canadian 🇪🇸 🇨🇦 and I am currently doing the IB (DP1) in Canada 🇨🇦. I am so excited to be part of the IBlieve organization as an ambassador and my favorite part is definitely brainstorming ideas to develop a project that will help everyone’s IB journey. Some of my interests include reading, cooking and doing ANY kind of sport whenever I have time. As of right now I am doing kickboxing and am really enjoying it. Although I am currently in high school I hope to study neuroscience in Spain or the Netherlands in a year and a half. Hey! My name is Faris Hekal, I’m Canadian with Egyptian roots, and I’m currently finishing IB MYP3 in the UAE! My favourite aspect of being an IBlieve Ambassador is inspiring other students and contributing to global initiatives like and join the Youth Global Move. I’ve participated in conferences including the Global IB Conference in The Hague and was an opening speaker at the IB Conference “Human Reconnect” in Dubai. Sports play a huge role in shaping my character, I’m an international swimmer, licensed diver, certified horse rider, OCR athlete, wrestler, and MMA competitor. Through sport, I’ve learned discipline, resilience, teamwork, and how to perform under pressure. I am also passionate about using my skills for service, including swims for Clean Seas, global runs for Clean Water, ocean clean-ups, coral reef restoration, charity projects, and mentoring younger students, earning a Genius World Record certification for diving in support of marine conservation. I’m an Academy of Excellence Top Achiever with award-winning projects and have earned Best Delegate twice consecutively in MUN. In the future, I aspire to become a global leader who uses science, policy, and advocacy to solve real-world challenges. Fun fact: I balance competitive sports, global leadership, and community service and I genuinely enjoy taking on challenges that push me beyond my comfort zone!

Gabriel Fernandes Steyer

Hi! I am Gabriel, I am from Brazil, and I have started and will finish the IB in Brazil! I am very excited to work as an ambassador in IBlieve, and my favourite part about it is getting to discuss many ideas and implement projects which will actually help IB students! In university, I plan to study Engineering, because it is an area I am deeply interested in. A fun fact about myself is that I have been playing the piano for 8 years.

📝 Breaking Down IB English A: Language & Literature

English A: Language & Literature is designed to strengthen your ability to analyze how meaning is constructed through language, structure, and context. Getting a 7 in this subject is not about memorizing interpretations, it’s about developing clear arguements supported by precise textual evidence.

The course is assessed through Paper 1, Paper 2, Individual Oral (IO), and HL Essay (only for HL students). Across all components, examiners reward focused thesis statement, close analysis of authorial choices, clear paragraph structure, and consistent links back to the guiding question.

Think of English A as a subject of clarity and precision. Strong structure and thoughtful analysis make all the difference!

📖 Paper 1,2 & IO Strategies

📌 Paper 1: It tests your ability to analyze a non-literaray text you’ve never seen before. You should be able to identify audience, purpose, and tone early. Structure your paragraphs around techniques and zoom into specific word choices and stylistic features. Always connect analysis back to the authors intention. Avoid retelling the content and focus on how meaning is shaped throughout the text.

📌 Paper 2: It requires you to comapre two literary works in response to a question. Directly answer the question in your thesis and compare throughout, don’t write two separate mini-essays. Use linking phrases to highlight similarities and differences. Integrate short, precise textural references. The strongest essays show conceptual comparision, not just plot comparision.

📌 Individual Oral: The IO connects one literary text and one non-literary text through a global issue. It is an prepared oral response and approaches a common global issue between the texts chosen. Clearly define the global issue in your introduction and balance analysis between both texts. Stay focused on the issue, avoid drifting into summary. Practice timing and clarity in delivery. Preparation builds confidence, rehearse aloud and refine your structure.

✍️ HL Essay Tips & Structure

The HL Essay allows you to explore one text in depth. It’s a written coursework component of 1,200-1,500 word essay on one literary or non-literary body of work. To strengthen your HL essay choose a focused, arguable research question and present a clear consistent line of argument. Moreover, support every claim with close textual analysis and maintain strong paragraph structure and transitions.

Suggested Structure:

1. Introduction (clear thesis + scope)

2. Analytical body paragraphs (one key idea per paragraph)

3. Conclusion (reinforce argument, not summary)

Don’t take overly broad research question. Make sure you analyze and not write descriptive paragraphs. Weak linkage back to the thesis mostly makes your HL essay weak. Clarity and depth matter more than complexity.

Hello! My name is Aikal, I’m from Malaysia 🇲🇾, currently an IBDP2 Student in Kolej MARA Banting, Malaysia. In my IBlieve role, what excites me most is being able to listen closely to students’ real experiences and help turn those voices into things people actually act on while also collaborating with others to build ideas that feel meaningful and inclusive. I plan to study a life-science related course at university and in the future I hope to do work related with the UN or WHO, especially work that supports the Sustainable Development Goals and creates real impact for communities. Fun fact about myself is that I’m weirdly good at spotting patterns, especially in people! 🎭

Hi everyone, I am Wajiha, currently an IBDP 2 student in Pakistan. I recently joined IBlieve as an Impact Lead and I’m super excited to be working with students from such diverse backgrounds to create meaningful change in the IB community! I plan to study International law/International Relations or Political Science in college since I love advocacy and debate. I also have my own civic organisation called “Sada-e-Haq” (urdu phrase meaning “voice of truth”) that advocates for political and civic rights in Pakistan.

Mahi Shah

Hey! I’m Mahi, I’m based in India, and I’m currently part of the IBDP Class of 2027. As an Impact Co-Lead at IBlieve, what excites me most is working across different teams and seeing all the moving pieces come together. I love figuring out how to present that energy and progress in a clear, meaningful way. I’m especially interested in building thoughtful internal impact audits that create quick feedback loops and help us improve iteratively. After the IBDP, I’m hoping to study economics at university. Outside academics and IBlieve, you’ll usually find me swimming, playing the guitar, or happily disappearing down a completely random rabbit hole just for fun :)

Hey! my name is iván, i’m from spain and currently studying medicine in madrid after graduating from IB in May 2025i’m 18 years old and really enjoy the balance between science and creativity. one of my favorite things about what i do is learning how the human body works in depth and constantly challenging myself academically. outside of medicine, i’m really into streetwear and aesthetic culture, music, and cooking, which helps me disconnect and stay inspired. i’m very curious by nature and motivated to keep growing both personally and professionally. fun fact about me is that i genuinely enjoy relaxing by experimenting in the kitchen or discovering new music.

🧠 Extended Essay Breakdown: How to approach your EE

The Extended Essay is not about writing everything at once, it’s about building your work step by step. It can feel intimidating at first because it’s a 4000-words essay, independent research, and a long timeline. But when you break it down, it becomes a lot more manageable. EE is a core component of IBDP and it is an in-depth study of a focused topic, taken through a subject-focused approach or an interdisciplinary approach.

Start by seeing your EE as a research journey, not a single massive task. The goal isn’t perfection from day one, it’s curiosity, exploration, and steady progress. First understand which subject you really want to write your EE in and then look at the subject criteria, read sample essays, and talk to your supervisor early. From there, focus on building a strong foundation in background research, clear structure, and consistent reflection.

You can choose any topic as long as it is within an IB subject that you are taking. Ideally, it would be best to take on a topic that there is detailed research on, and one that you can access resources for. Make sure your EE topic is not too broad so narrow down your topics. Once you have finalized your topic, frame your research question and you can start writing your EE.

Along with the EE, you need to keep a Reflction on planning and progress form (RPPF) where you have to write a total of three reflection sessions. This must not exceed 500 words in total and is completed after a meeting session with your EE supervisor. This is crucial to show your progress throughout your EE journey.

The EE is graded based on 5 criteria - A (focus and method), B (knowledge and understanding), C (critical thinking), D(presentation) and E (engagement).

The EE must include: A title page, contents page, introduction, body of the essay, conclusion, and references & bibliography.

Remember the EE rewards process, not last-minute pressure.

✍️ Choosing the Right Research Question

Your research question is the backbone of your EE and choosing the right one can make your experience better. The RQ specifies the scope of your essay, what you’ll talk about, the timeframe, relevant events, key concepts, etc. It is the starting point for proper exploration and argumentation, which is why your RQ makes all the difference between a focused critically analyzed paper and a broad descriptive one. A strong EE should be:

1. Focused - not too broad or vague (affects criteria A to C)

2. Researchable - You should be able to find information about your topic through accessible and reliable sources.

3. Personally interesting - There should be a personal interest because you need to write 4000 words on that topic.

4. Structure of RQ - It should start with a ‘To what extent‘ or ‘How‘ to be more focused.

Instead of asking a general question, aim for one that invites analysis, not description. Test your question by asking if you can argue something here and explore different perspectives. Refining your question as you research is not a failure, it’s part of the EE process.

📆 How to Manage EE Deadlines Without Stress

The EE isn’t about cramming, it’s about planning smart. Start by breaking the EE timeline into smaller milestones: research, outline, first draft, revisions, and final submission. Treat these like mini-deadlines and spread them out realistically alongside your IA and exam workload.

A few stress-saving tips:

• Set weekly goals, not daily pressure

• Work on your EE in short, focused sessions

• Check in regularly with your supervisor

• Leave buffer time, things will take longer than expected

• Don’t choose a topic solely for its ease and don’t overcomplicate your topic

• Don’t ignore feedback or neglect your reflections

Most importantly, don’t disappear from your EE and then panic later. Even small, consistent progress keeps you in control.

🧠 Best study & revision strategies that actually work

Effective revision in the IB isn’t about studying longer, it’s about studying smarter. The strategies that work best are the ones you can stay consistent with, even during busy weeks.

Start by revising actively, testing yourself using practice questions, flashcards, blurting, or teaching concepts out loud. Focus on exam-style questions early, as IB asssesments reward application and evaluation rather than memorization.

Equally important is reviewing mistakes. Keep a simple error log where you write down common mistakes, this helps prevent repeating them in the exams. Finally, revisit topics regularly using spaced revision rather than cramming everything at once. Small, consistent review sessions add up over time.

⏰ How to revise effectively during busy IB weeks

During packed IB weeks, revision needs to be realistic. Instead of trying to do everything, identify 2-3 priority subjects or topics for the week and focus your energy there. Break down large topics into smaller, easier chunks of information.

Feynman Technique - Explain concepts in simple terms and teach them to someone else. This way you actually understand topics instead of just repeating them.

Spaced Reptition - Once you’ve actually learnt the content, make sure you don’t forget it! Just review topics at growing intervals.

Pomodoro Technique - Just work for a period of time like 30 minutes with complete focus and then reward yourself with a break for 5 minutes before starting again. This will help you focus and actually remember what you review.

Reviewing - Choose a topic and without looking at your notes, write down as much as you can about it. Then, compare what you wrote with your actual notes and review what you missed.

Practicing - After you understand the content, understand how it’s tested, just do many questions and past papers under timed conditions to see how effectively you could revise.

On especially busy days, switch to lighter revisions, reviewing flashcards, summarizing a topic, or watching a revision video still counts as progress. Consistency matters more than intensity. Showing up regularly, even on low-energy days, keeps you on track without burnout.
