Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, especially when it comes to fashion. I love a good autumn color palette. Unfortunately, we’re currently in that weird “in-between” period where every store you walk in is putting sweaters on the racks, yet it’s still 90 degrees outside. I honestly cant’t even think about a wool sweater right now. So how do you dress for that weird in-between? Transitional pieces of course! I took it upon myself to dig through pages and pages of The RealReal so you don’t have to…and I’ve come up with some pretty good finds if I do say so. You can be the judge of that. Also a note that this post is not in any way sponsored by The RealReal, I am just an avid scroller and wanted to share my finds.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a good dress is the easiest way to look put together: and for between-seasons, it’s the perfect base. My first pick is this plaid Jenni Kayne number. The print feels like the perfect way to signal Fall, but the light cotton blend fabric and spaghetti straps say “it’s still hot as hell out here”. Moving on to the SEROYA dress of my dreams. I was dying to style a client in this for her son’s birthday, but it’s an old season and only available in a S or XS on resale sites. Big sigh for me also because I wanted it for myself too. I’m picturing it being worn to an Autumn winery visit paired with chocolate flats, or maybe strolling a farmers market with a big raffia tote bag and an ivory sweater thrown over the shoulders. Oh, the possibilities for a dress I may never own. Next up, we have another Jenni Kayne favorite. I’d pair this with an off white cardigan (specifically a duster style) and a pair of flats. This olive beauty is from Ganni, which transparently, is a brand I find myself forgetting about until Fall/Winter rolls around. Shame on me because I always love their pieces. I actually grabbed a dress very similar to this last Winter and had it hemmed into mini dress! Many of the Ganni items on TRR are marked significantly lower than retail price, this one coming in at $82.50 USD. Lastly for dresses, we have this Lauren by Ralph Lauren scoop neck. The ruffle hem is what did it for me. She would be perfect for a nice dinner or even to the office.

Next up, we’re talking black mock neck tanks/tops. Although I don’t personally love this style on my frame (broad-shoulders, sigh), I do love it on others. Starting at the far left, we have this Toteme asymmetrical knit top. While of course I love the overall shape of this top, I was primarily drawn to the little notch at the bottom corner. Do I think this is worth the original $520 price tag? No, I do not. Do I think it’s worth the insane markdown? Yes! Now, onto this DISSH top. While I personally have a tough time with tanks that cut off right at the shoulder combo’d with the mock neck, this I could probably get behind for my frame! In the middle, we have this one from Marni. I love that it’s nylon so it works for the heat but can still transition into the cooler weather. Onto the last two, we have a turtleneck tank from Frame and a cashmere version from Ralph Lauren Black Label - both perfect for early Fall!

Onto skirts! We’re starting off with this brown sheer midi from The Frankie Shop. This is one of my favorite styles of skirt right now. I’m imagining it styled for the end of summer with a tight fitting black tank or an oversized button down. Then it can be carried into fall with an oversized sweater. Next, I’ve pulled this off white Tibi midi. I am such a fan of Tibi, but I will admit some of their pieces are a bit out of my price range. Luckily there’s a large assortment on TRR for a fraction of retail price. I can totally picture this styled with a black cotton or wool sweater that hits a little below the waist. Onto this stunning vintage Jil Sander find from the Spring/Summer 2001 Collection. I love this rich, dark olive green color for Fall. Now for my favorite of the bunch, this Simkhai plaid skirt. The print! The frayed edge! It’s just too good. I can see this paired with a dark brown knit mock neck/turtleneck tank, similar to the ones I mentioned earlier.

Lastly, we have bags and shoes. Starting with one of my favorite Staud bags of all time, which I’m realizing has now unfortunately been marked sold. Congratulation to the lucky person who scored this for under $200. SIGH. We’ll move on to these Gucci canvas mules that are at the tippy top of my wishlist (if only I could find them in my size). I’ve learned that there’s a subset of people who this type of print, but the GG canvas has a permanent spot in my heart. These mules would be the cutest statement piece to add to a monochrome outfit. These Jamie Haller slip ons are my next find. Now, I for one cannot bring myself to buy a full price pair of Jamie Haller shoes right now. A girl can dream…or buy a pre-loved pair for $200 off. We’ll see. I’ve been into leather sandals all summer but am especially into a fisherman style for the end of the season, partly because it feels a little less exposed than a flip flop. This A.P.C. suede bucket bag is staring at me from my TRR hearts as I type. She looks to be in pristine condition other than a few minor scuffs on the bottom, but who is looking there anyways. She’d pair nicely with any fall look. Finishing off with the sickest snakeskin clutch. If you have a trip out West coming up, I would grab this before it’s gone.

No, I’m not literally dressing like my 12-year-old self (thankfully, since my divorced dad used to let me go to school on dress-down days wearing boys’ basketball shorts🫣). In my adolescent years, I yearned to have ‘LOVE PINK’ splayed across the waistband of my yoga pants despite my mom calling it “trashy.” I wanted to dress like the “cool” older girls I saw, with their crop tops and the shortest Hollister denim shorts you’d ever seen. Instead, I settled for Aeropostale graphic tees and Eastlands until my feet finally stopped growing and I convinced my mom to cough up the $90 for a pair of Sperrys (my shoe size matched my age until I was in the 7th grade, so I understand her thought process now.)

Although I’m not into giant logos across my backside these days, I do have the autonomy and funds to dress how I want. So how does this thought process work now? The most recent example I can think of was last week at the beach, when we wandered into Bert’s Surf Shop. Among the surf boards, wetsuits, and flip flops was a rack of women’s Roxy tees. I grew up vacationing in OBX and various Florida beaches, so naturally I was into surf brands like O’Neill, Roxy, and Billabong. I also spent a lot of time in the Pacsun store in my local mall. Not to mention this was peak 2013 Tumblr and Instagram (see penny boarding and mint green Vans).

I found myself in Bert’s Surf Shop thumbing through the colorful graphic tees just like 12-year-old me would’ve done years ago. The difference is, while she would’ve begged her parents for a singular Roxy tee, 25-year-old me scooped up a whole armful of my favorites, headed straight to the fitting room, and ended up at the checkout counter with the winner.

I’ve learned that when you look through the lens of what younger-you would like, shopping and getting dressed become a lot more fun. The takeaway here isn’t to literally wear 2013 crop tops and Hollister shorts, but to buy what makes you and your inner child happy. Be that “cool” older girl that middle school you looked up to. So the next time you’re on the fence about a purchase, ask yourself: Would my twelve-year-old self be absolutely thrilled by this? If the answer is yes, add to cart.

I have been wearing these nonstop, seriously. I loved my first pair so much that I had to get another color. I’ve worn them to the airport, coffee runs, lounging around the house, running errands, you name it. I typically pair mine with a tight tank or a shrunken tee. Just throw them on and go.

BUCK MASON | Pima Boxy Crew

I must preface that the Leset Margo tee is my tried and true. This here is a very very very close second, and that is only because it’s a lighter tee than the Margo. This tee is cut from 120 GSM Supima cotton, which means it’s intentionally designed to be more semi-sheer and airy (for reference, a standard t-shirt is usually around 150-180 GSM). All that to say it’s the perfect “throw on & go” tee for hot summer days.

DÔEN | Bea Dress

Every year when Spring and Summer roll around, I find myself scrolling Dôen’s site to see what’s new and what’s returning: and year after year they deliver. I’m currently obsessing over the Bea, for good reason. I actually just styled a client in this for her upcoming trip to Europe, accompanied by a pair of vintage Chanel ballet flats (also on my wishlist btw). As I mentioned in last week’s “Quit Overthinking Your Outfit”, a casual dress is one of, if not the most low-effort way to still look and feel stylish: throw on & go, if you will.

If you’ve been around here a while, you know I won’t shut up about this tank top. I have it in five colors because it’s just that good. One thing about me is I love love love a good crewneck sweatshirt. I’m actually typing this article while wearing one (yes, it’s 80°F outside but 🤷‍♀️). I’m especially digging the exposed flatlock stitching here and the heritage/vintage look. The Great is one of those brands that cannot release a bad piece IMO.

Ok, listen. I see the price and I hear you, I do. I may be a bit biased because I have a $210 Donni credit from a past return that is burning a hole in my pocket, but these are to die for. We all know silk taffeta is all the rage this summer and I am definitely on board.

One thing about me is I love to rewear my clothes. Wear them into the ground, even. When I find a top that really flatters me, I will no joke find a way to pair it with 10 different pieces in my closet. The joy in finding a really good staple piece is that there are endless ways to style it (or add it into the equation, if you will). I feel like I’ve really nailed down what works for me when it comes to my personal formula(s), so what better to do than spread the knowledge. Let’s talk a little bit about how to nail down a few outfit formulas and spend less time stressing over your wardrobe.

Ok, enough with the intro, I bring you formulas!

Formula #1: tank, button up/down, relaxed pant

This formula is a personal favorite for Spring/Summer weather - fitted tank, oversized button up/down, and relaxed pant. Add in a slouchy bag, sunnies, and some mules or sandals. To me, this reads ‘I’m effortlessly stylish and I don’t have to try too hard’. Perfect for running errands, grabbing coffee, or even swap the shoe to a loafer for a more casual office day.

Formula #2: dress, sweater around the waist (bonus pts if colorful), slouchy bag

The easiest outfit formula in the book. A casual dress is one of, if not the most low-effort way to still look and feel stylish. On the right, I’m pairing this simple Buck Mason black rib dress with brown/tan accessories and throwing in a pop of color with a kelly green sweater/sweatshirt tied around the waist. On the left, I’ve got another casual dress from Venroy paired with black sandals/bag and adding a pop of color with the hat and sweater combo. I love tying a colorful sweater around the waist to bring some fun to an otherwise simple look.

Formula #3: fitted tank, maxi skirt, sandal

This combo feels very Southern California to me—the type of girl who wakes up in the morning and takes a beach walk, comes home and throws on a tank, maxi skirt, and leather sandal because she wants something casual, but wants to look and feel put-together.

If this is your first time being introduced to PQ Swim, you’re in for a treat. While a PQ set may run you ~$200, that’s nothing compared to the $600+ you’d be spending on a Missoni bikini. My personal fave is the green zigzag but you really can’t go wrong with any of these patterns.

Monday Swimwear

We all know and love the iconic Monday Swimwear, but I want to talk about a specific print: Porto Cervo Multi. This is by far my favorite print I’ve seen from them. From dresses, to swim, to coverups, to everything in between. Cover me in this print.

Other Misc. Missoni-Coded Finds

Siempre, Ramy Brook, Hill House, 12th Tribe, even Edikted. These are just a few of the brands pumping out Missoni-coded prints this season. My personal favorite from this group is the Ramy Brook swim coverup.

All in all, I’m here to say I’m SO down for the colorful zig zags and stripes this summer, just not down for the price tag. And if you’re a loyal Missoni customer reading this, more power to you. I wish that were me, but it’s not. For now, I’ll stick to these finds. ;)

The thing no one tells you when you’re building? Growth often brings a shadow: those who would rather run with your ideas than come up their own. It sucks, but I’ve learned that sometimes that’s just part of it. That’s how you know you’re doing something special. I keep coming back to one specific quote, thanks to a sweet commenter who put it perfectly (if you’re reading this, shoutout to you): ‘They can steal your recipe, but the sauce won’t taste the same.’ While it’s been extremely frustrating dealing with a specific account ripping off my signature video style and attempting to recreate some of my exact looks for profit, that quote has been the perfect reminder to me that authenticity and originality cannot be replicated.

Creatives do just that, create. If they take inspiration, they give credit where credit is due. If your idea of ‘creating’ is replicating someone else’s work and putting your name on it, well, you’re not a creative. Let’s take the Parke mockneck sweatshirt, for example. You know the one. You can probably also name ten other brands that have completely knocked off the design following Parke’s rise in popularity. And before anyone says it: yes, I’m aware they use a manufacturer. That’s not what this is about. Parke is the brand who coined that specific mockneck look with the signature font and style. Point. Blank. Period. In my opinion, you can’t take the mockneck, replace ‘Parke’ with ‘Your Brand Name’, and seriously call yourself a fashion brand or designer. The same goes for any other industry.

If you’re truly passionate about something, great. If you want to turn that passion into a project or a business, great. But if you want to build something that lasts, you have to start with your own foundation. Attempting to profit off of someone else’s ideas or signature style is never a good look, especially if you’re just starting out. And if you’ve ever been on the receiving end of it, you know it doesn’t feel good. My advice? Be yourself. If your own ideas are good, you’ll succeed. Otherwise, you’ll be another ‘Parke mockneck’ knockoff. Same recipe, but missing the sauce.

PURCHASE STYLE GUIDE

I spend about 70% of my time (give or take) in athleisure, so naturally I’m always on the lookout for brands to try. Here are three on my radar right now:

Wear One’s At

This brand popped up on my FYP recently, so obviously I must share with the class. Let me just say I’m not typically a unitard girl, but I may just become one after seeing their pieces. Tell me you can’t imagine yourself sweating in a Tracy Anderson class wearing one of these. To top it off, their branding and overall vibe is off the charts.

H-O-R-S-E Sport

If you haven’t heard of them, strap in (or saddle up?). From their website,

H-O-R-S-E is a line of classic workout essentials made from natural materials. Inspired by P.E. uniforms, vintage silhouettes, and heirloom college basketball shorts siblings steal from each other when no one’s looking.

Their pieces are unisex and are designed and manufactured in the USA. If you’re in the market for 100% cotton active and loungewear, it’s time to check out H-O-R-S-E.

Sculpt Society Equipment

Move over Bala bangles (sorry I still love you), Sculpt Society is absolutely killing the game. From their ankle weights to their collab with Stakt, TSS is definitely the place to find sleek workout equipment. I finally had the chance to try out a few of their products - the ankle weights, hand weights, and the pilates ball. To sum it up, I don’t think I’ll go back to buying any other brand’s equipment after using TSS—it’s that good. Did I mention I’m a sucker for aesthetically pleasing workout equipment?

Q: What sneaker do you think will be trending in 2026?

A: I want to preface this by mentioning that I have never claimed to be a trend forecaster. I don’t think too too hard into trends or style looks based on what I think will be trending. But ANYWAYS, to answer the question: I’m going with anything chunky/vintage-inspired. With the rise of the late 90s/early 2000s activewear, I can’t help but think styles like the Nike Air Max Moto 2k and the Reebok Premier Road Ultra will be everywhere.

I do think Salomons are here to stay (for now), and we’ll continue to see more colorful pairs as opposed to the plain black/white XT-6s. Other styles to note are the Nike Shox R4 Sneaker (you’ve got to be fully bought-in to the aesthetic for these IMO) and the Golden Goose Lightstar, and the HOKA U Stinson One7 Sneaker (I personally like this particular color way).

Q: How to style triangle scarves?

A: Triangle scarves are some of my favorite accessories this season because of how versatile they are! Love the look of the lace scarf over the trench or throwing a cashmere one over a leather jacket. These stripes from Aritzia are incredible as well. Now is a great time to shop with winter items heading to brands’ sale sections (look for 100% cashmere if you can).

Q: Best 90s inspired straight leg jean (under $200)?

A: I’ve got three picks for you (L to R):

Levi’s 501 ‘90s Women’s Jeans - most cost effective option (& on sale right now!), five different washes, and two different lengths.

La Ligne Mol High-Rise Straight Jean - closer to the $200 mark but I’m in love with this wash. There are currently only two sizes left so hopefully they restock.👀

Banana Republic Mid-Rise 90S Loose Jean - the loosest style of the three, comes in three different lengths, and six different washes (one of which is on sale)!

Q: What are the best brands to shop for basics?

Swapping out polyester for high-quality, natural fiber basics is truly a game changer—and when I say some of these brands are changing the game, I mean it!

Q: I’m a 5’2 short torso’d girly and feel like all the jean options swallow me…any recs?

A: I love this question because I have the opposite issue - 5’11, long torso, & 33” inseam aka nothing is ever long enough. So in this case I’m going to tell you the opposite of what I look for myself:

• Look for mid rise or slightly high rise - For the most part, mid-rise is going to look the most balanced on the short girls. Some high-rise options will work, but you’ll want to avoid anything ultra high-rise that sits too far above your natural waist line. You’ll want to avoid most low-rise as the waistband sits lower, essentially “cutting” your leg line sooner/visually shortening your legs.

• Go for a straight leg or a slight bootcut - these styles will work to create a clean vertical line which elongates your legs and balances everything out. In my experience, a barrel leg can work if proportioned correctly, but for most people that’s going to require some trial-and-error.

• Brands doing “petite” right: Banana Republic, Mother, Pistola, Paige, and last but certainly not least, vintage Levi’s (I envy the petite girls when it comes to vintage denim shopping).

Get Inspired

The first step is a quick Pinterest search of “vintage athleisure” and “2000s sporty style”. What you’ll find are loads and loads of catalog clippings circa 2003-2004, paparazzi pics of celebs post-workout, and so much more inspiration to pull from.

Find some common themes: I’m seeing a lot of tracksuits, nylon pants, chunky gym shoes, and matching (or mix-and-matching) vintage workout sets.

Where to Shop

Get familiar with Ebay, Poshmark, Depop, Grailed, even Etsy for some good vintage shops.

I am back from my Substack hiatus to bring you Friday Finds. Blah blah blah, I know the word “obsessed” is overused — but I’m sorry, there is no other word to describe my feelings towards this bag. Is she pricy? Yes. But she’s fun, trendy, and the perfect statement piece.

We all love the 1906R, but this colorway?! Absolutely. I could only find them on Farfetch and they’re selling out FAST.

Ok, maybe I’m being a bit dramatic, but I’m just being honest. If you’re anything like me, you’re not a size 0-2 and clothes don’t hang off you effortlessly like the girls on Pinterest. For starters, I’m 5’11, which means most jeans & pants hit above my ankles, I can’t bend over in skirts & dresses without flashing everyone, and to top it off I wear a size 11-11.5 shoe. Did I mention I’m also very picky when it comes to the fit of my clothes?

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve looked in my closet and envisioned a capsule wardrobe filled with neutrals, maybe a few dark hues, and some jewel tones sprinkled in here and there (color analysis says I’m a true winter, sigh). For years, I’ve fallen for gorgeous earth tones that completely wash me out, and pieces that drape beautifully on the size 2 model on the website, only to try them on and wonder if I accidentally slipped into the bag it came in instead. I’m so sick of having the same thought when it comes time to pick out an outfit for the evening. So I’m holding myself accountable. If this sounds like you, I invite you to do this challenge with me: GET RID OF SH*T YOU DON’T WEAR OR LIKE.

Ok, I’m not here to reinvent the wheel but here are my rules for what goes:

1. If I haven’t worn it all year, goodbye.

2. If the color is not flattering on me, goodbye.

3. If it doesn’t fit (whether that’s too big or too small), goodbye.

4. If I have another version of it that I wear more (black and white tank tops in my case), goodbye.

5. If I’m saving it for *insert random event/occasion I’m never actually going to*, goodbye. STOP BUYING STUFF FOR THE FANTASY VERSION OF YOURSELF.

6. If it’s pilling, worn down, damaged, etc, goodbye.

7. If I straight up just don’t like it anymore, say it with me: goodbye.

I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I just purged 5 white tank tops…and kept 3. I had EIGHT white tank tops. In my defense some of them had different necklines. Some.

My criteria for what stays:

1. If I’ve worn it more than twice this year, keep.

2. If I feel good in it, keep.

3. If it looks good on me, keep.

4. If it can be worn more than 2 ways with other pieces in my closet, keep.

5. If it’s comfy to wear around the house, keep.

6. If I need it for my job/extracurriculars, keep.

7. Last but not least, if I truly love it, keep.

Now that I (or we if you’re also following these steps) have cleaned out what is no longer wanted and/or needed, it’s time to dispose of and fill in the gaps.

Step 1: Poshmark, local consignment shop, local donation center.

Step 2: Fill in the gaps. What pieces am I missing? What pieces do I need to replace (if they were damaged, didn’t fit, etc)? What can I add to fill in my wardrobe gaps and complete outfits?

…

The goal is to get to a point here where we don’t look in our closets and say “I have nothing to wear”, and instead have endless options that we actually like.

“Fisherman Core”

We’re starting off with a low here, because, pardon my french but WTF was this? In theory, I think this could’ve been executed really well if gone about in a more timeless way. Take the J.Crew Roll Neck Sweater, for example — love it. Vintage. No notes. Or the Boat & Tote — never goes out of style. Even a Hunter boot! I bought mine in the 8th grade and have pulled them out every year since.

I’m a firm believer that most trends have the potential to be executed tastefully. And aside from sustainability, I do sometimes like a micro-trend. Does that mean I will buy into it? No. But I need you to listen to me just this once: You will not catch me dead in a sweater with a GIANT FISH on it, or so help me god, in a pair of Sperry Top-Siders. I’m aware that everything comes back around eventually, but I for one place them in the same category as chevron print and Southern Tide circa 2015. Trust, I wore them too along with my monogrammed quarter zip. Seeing these make a comeback under the whole ‘fisherman core’ trend honestly gave me a visceral reaction.

Polka Dots

Yes, 1000x yes! I loved what I saw this summer. My personal favorites include Posse’s Aurelia top and shorts in Black White Polka Dot and any polka dot kitten heel or mule. I love how feminine and classy it is, along with how it was styled this summer —lots of white tank + polka dot midi skirt combos, silk polka dot mini dresses, even printed bags and scarves. This one gets a 10/10 from me.

“Quiet” Luxury

Somehow, everything is “quiet luxury” now — even H&M according to TikTok. But is it really “quiet” when everyone knows what The Row Margaux 10 looks like and everyone who doesn’t want to spend the $3,650 (😳) has a dupe?

Here’s the thing: I still like the idea of quiet luxury. I like the focus on timeless, quality pieces. But somewhere along the way, we lost the plot. Buying a top because you genuinely love its cut and fabric? Sure. Buying it because it looks like the $2,500 version? That’s not really the same thing.

So, what is quiet luxury actually supposed to be?

• Subtle > Flashy (no loud logos)

• Quality materials (cashmere, silk, wool, and please no polyester)

• Luxurious fit and craftsmanship (it drapes, it lasts)

• Classic, neutral palette (black, navy, beige, ivory)

• Timeless silhouettes (tailored trousers, structured coats, simple knits)

And what has it turned into this summer?

• “Old Money” But Make It Fast Fashion (Mango, Zara, and H&M “quiet luxury” edits full of synthetics)

• Designer Dupes Sold as Minimalism (We all know what The Row 90s bag looks like. Buying a $20 knockoff doesn’t make it quiet…or luxurious)

Just because something doesn’t scream MIU MIU across the front doesn’t make it quiet luxury. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with a $35 Mango handbag (I for one love popping into Zara). But let’s call things what they are: affordable, trendy, maybe even classic-looking, but not “quiet luxury.”
