I’ll start off by saying Woody is one of my favorite Toy Story characters.

One characteristic I love about him is his loyalty.

He is so loyal that he makes sure whoever he belongs to is satisfied before anything else.

In all of the Toy Story movies, Woody is the toy that ensures everyone is in line.

Growing up I viewed Woody as a toy that didn’t know how to have fun.

He was always giving another toy a reality check.

I’ll also add, I did enjoy his comebacks.

(Especially in the first Toy Story)

Now that I’m an adult rewatching the Toy Story series, I see that he is also very sassy.

Oh and this post will be pertaining to Toy Story 4.

Woody wasn’t Bonnie’s favorite toy.

In fact, he hardly got played with.

But he still had so much ambition to make sure Bonnie remained happy, rather if he was the one making her happy or not.

There was a scene in the movie where Bonnie had to go to school, but she wanted to bring a toy.

Her parents didn’t allow it since it was a rule for her to not bring her toys to school.

She left out her room and came back a few moments later and went to the floor of her bed and started crying.

Woody watched and by the look on his face, he couldn’t stand to see her hurting.

Woody knew that Bonnie needed comfort.

With Woody being Woody, he snuck into her backpack and went to school with her.

While she was there she created something that gave her that comfort.

Which became the character Forky.

Forky thought of himself as being trash.

There are moments in the movie, when Forky kept trying to throw himself away.

To me that kind of symbolized low self worth.

Woody confronted Forky while they were walking, trying to find Bonnie and asked him why do he keep trying to go in the trash?

Forky said because “I’m trash!”.

True enough Forky was made from random stuff, that wasn’t ideally “worth” something.

Woody saw past that.

Woody didn’t see trash.

Woody saw something that made someone he deeply cared for happy.

Woody and Forky had a conversation and Forky mentioned that he liked the trash because it was warm and comforting.

Woody switched the narrative.

Woody brought to Forky attention that the way trash made him feel was the same feeling he gave to Bonnie.

When that clicked, Forky instantly brightened up.

He automatically wanted to get back to Bonnie.

Woody made Forky feel like he was worth keeping.

He gave Forky a reason to stay.

That’s something I admire about Woody.

Woody knows how to get someone to understand their worth.

In the first Toy Story, Buzz lightyear came and he was in the state of belief that he wasn’t a toy.

He thought he was a real space ranger.

Woody tried to bring Buzz lightyear back to reality, but it took some time.

Buzz had became Andy’s favorite toy.

That sparked an insane amount of jealousy in Woody.

Woody felt threatened and replaced, especially because Buzz didn’t even believe he was a toy.

Woody caused Buzz to be separated from Andy.

Woody could’ve easily let Buzz stay away and reclaim his spot by being Andy’s favorite toy.

But he didn’t.

Woody knew how much Andy cared for Buzz.

Woody knew Andy wouldn’t be happy with Buzz being lost.

Woody put his ego and pride to the side to go after Buzz because he believed it was the right thing to do.

To make a long story short, Woody realized his job wasn’t to be Andy’s only favorite toy.

It was to be there for him.

Rather if that meant he was Andy’s favorite or not.

Woody’s desire to keep Andy happy became more important than being needed by him.

That’s the mindset Woody carried with him throughout the Toy Story series.

Now that I’m writing this out, he kind of reminds me of a guardian angel… but lowkey in a father figure way.

Especially with the move he pulled towards the end of Toy Story 4.

There was this doll named Gabby Gabby.

She wanted Woodys voice box because she believed the reason kids didn’t want to play with her was because her voice box was broke.

Woody ended up giving Gabby his voice box after seeing how bad she wanted to be loved by a child.

Gabby received the voice box and placed herself in view of a little girl who always came in the antique shop.

The little girl picked her up and looked at her and heard her voice box, Gabby desperately wanted.

Just to throw Gabby in a box and skip away.

Woody and Forky witnessed the whole thing unfold.

Gabby felt defeated and unworthy, after what had happened.

Woody went to Gabby and reassured her that there was a child out there waiting for her.

Gabby resonated with what Woody said and left the shop.

Gabby seen a little girl who was crying and lost.

Gabby put herself in view of the child. The child instantly connected with her and took her home.

Which was exactly what Gabby wanted.

That wouldn’t have happened if Woody didn’t remind her that even though one child didn’t want her, there were still one in a million that would.

Everything worked out for everyone at the end.

Woody had found who is consider his first love Bo Peep and eventually decided to stay with her.

Bo Peep was sold in Toy Story 2.

Woody reunited with her in Toy Story 4.

When they reunited she was a lost toy.

Something that Woody couldn’t phantom being.

But Bo Peep demonstrated how life could be for a toy without a child.

Woody moved through the Toy Story series wanting to be chosen.

Woody had always looked after everyone with the intention of keeping someone else happy.

His decision to belong to nobody and be free with Bo Peep, is a choice I loved that he made.

Because he finally chose himself.

Interests change.

New toys come out.

Kids grow up.

The cycle of needing validation would’ve just kept repeating.

With the decision Woody chose, he gets to experience freedom, rather than constantly worrying about monitoring someone else’s feelings.

Introduction

Feelings give us information about ourselves.

Especially when that feeling is stimming from a place of not knowing why you feel the way you do.

In this post, I will explain:

• How your feelings give you information

• A scenario on how feelings aren’t accurate

• How to implement using your emotions to better understand yourself

How feelings give information

Sitting and feeling your emotions doesn’t have to be a dark situation.

In fact, it can be a way of listening to what your body is trying to tell you.

Feelings are like a data system.

There’s multiple aspects that go into it, such as memories, experiences, and sensory inputs.

Anxiety may be telling you that you may feel uncertain or unprepared.

Fear may be telling you that you perceive a threat or danger.

Excitement may be telling you that something is meaningful or interesting to you.

Relief may be telling you that the source of stress or danger is gone.

These emotions don’t spawn in on command.

They can sneak up on you.

Adding onto that, our feelings don’t always perceive reality accurately.

Scenario

Imagine a lady and a guy have been getting along well and already decided they wanted to take each-other serious. She sends a late text and doesn’t get a reply. She immediately starts to feel rejected and anxious. She then starts to spam text his phone, believing it would get rid of those emotions. But in reality it’s late. The next day rolls around and she gets a response “Sorry for the late reply, I was sleep.”

Her feelings were real, but the interpretation that she needed to do more to suppress how she felt wasn’t accurate.

You can think of emotions as signals, not facts.

When you are looking to change how you react, you have to find the root to the reason you react that way in the first place.

So the cycle doesn’t repeat.

The lady assumption came from fear and anxiety.

Let’s say she was rejected, ghosted, made fun of and thought the same pattern was repeating itself because she wasn’t met with instant feedback.

Although that’s what she perceived was happening, it wasn’t.

The other person was simply resting.

This can create an unhealthy pattern of having anxiety and fear each time there’s no instant gratification.

How to implement

To implement using your emotions to get a better inner standing of yourself, you would start by observing how you react.

By observing how you react, you see how you truly respond and not how you think you respond.

Referring back to the scenario.

The lady sent message after message, in order to feel relief.

She wasn’t capable of feeling that relief because she was seeking it from someone other than herself.

That other person was incapable of giving her that relief because they were resting.

That lady had choices she needed to make.

Keep sending message after message in hopes of a response or sit with the emotion until it passed, while doing something beneficial.

Judging by her actions we can tell she is reacting from a place of anxiety and fear.

If she wanted to develop a more healthy way to respond instead of spiraling out of control, she would start by not reacting in a way that puts her need of validation in someone else control.

This would consist of her not automatically thinking the worst and being grounded in a mindset of knowing she will be fine regardless of the outcome.

This thought process is beneficial for other emotions not just fear and anxiety.

Many of us have a favorite show, movie, or color.

It’s most likely a favorite because it invokes a feeling.

In part one, we discussed how important it was to improve your self concept.

Now in part two, we will be doing an easy guide that you can use to improve your self concept.

I want you to leave this article with new knowledge you can implement in your every day life.

So we will be doing it together right now step by step.

A lot of us consume instead of execute.

We are going to change that by starting small, so that this doesn’t become overwhelming.

Step #1

Dig into your world

Think of your ideal self concept / identity

Don’t automatically start thinking of someone you admire.

Instead I want you to tap into your younger self.

Ask yourself, what traits do I already portray, that my younger self would admire or disapprove?

Sit with it and be honest with yourself.

Use mine for reference 👇🏽

Building on top of this we are going to flip the narrative.

In specific terms, we are going to use the polarity effect.

The polarity effect is the tendency for people to organize concepts into contrasting pairs to perceive one pole in relation to its opposite.

For example,

Good and Bad

Hot and Cold

Love and Hate

Light and Darkness

The lists goes on.

To sum that up, you can’t have one without the other.

We are going to implement this concept into improving our self concept.

If you can think negative about yourself you can think positive about yourself.

If you can recognize traits about yourself, that’s a sign you are self aware.

That’s more than enough feedback that should let you know you are capable of making this change.

We are going to leave the traits that we admire alone.

That list is a sign that we already have a foundation to build on.

For the traits we disapprove of we are going to not focus on how we don’t like them.

Instead we are going to focus on its opposite.

Step two

One of my disapprove traits was “Okay with being late”

The opposite of mine would be “I am always on time.”

We are going to write or think about the opposite of what we wrote down for disapprove.

Here is mine for reference 👇🏽

We now created a list of affirmation for ourselves.

An affirmation is a positive statement, a formal declaration of the truth, or emotional support.

These will be used to rewire our subconscious to embody the new identity we are affirming ourselves as.

The goal is to use repetition, to default our brain into automatically believing the new belief, without faking it until you make it.

Although “faking it until you make it” might work for some people, I don’t believe it’s sustainable for the long run.

That put me in the mind of adding something new on top of something old; instead of cleansing out the old to make room for the new.

We are starting off by acknowledging what we already identify as and using that as a stepping stone.

The disapproval we have ourselves will be flipped and used as evidence that our actions, back up our affirmations.

Action + mind shift = new self concept without abandoning who we once were.

Step three

Create your affirmations and practice them daily.

When I say daily, I don’t expect you to have perfect days when you do every affirmation all day, everyday.

That could be overwhelming for some, so instead you can start off with one at a time.

Or with however many you can manage without feeling like you are putting on an act.

Use mine as reference to write your affirmations 👇🏽

In due time, as you speak these affirmations, you will naturally believe you are who you affirm yourself to be.

You will no longer feel like you have to do a certain action to be, who you say you are.

Your new self concept becomes the default.

That doesn’t mean your old self concept disappeared.

It has just become something that will carry you further.

Two Reading Suggestions

Have you ever been up late night and randomly decided to change your whole life?

You create the Pinterest board.

You watch and save the self improvement videos.

You write down your new goals and even take the time to map out, exactly how you’re going to reach them.

You’re consistent for the first few weeks, maybe even months.

Then all of a sudden, things slow down.

The goal starts to slowly become a background character to the life you were trying to plan your way out of.

If that resonated, then this post is for you.

The problem isn’t that you’re inconsistent or undedicated.

It’s because you’re skipping one crucial step that a lot of people skip when trying to shed their old identity.

Imagine someone wants to become an actor, but they are a very shy person. They create a YouTube channel to upload their scenes.

They do research on acting schools and upcoming auditions. They create a vision board for what they’ll purchase when they start earning money.

When it comes time for this person to put themselves in the position to be seen as an actor, they crumble and believe that they are incapable of doing it.

They believe they are too shy to put themselves out there. They believe shy people don’t come out their shell.

The result of this ends up being that person stays the same, even after the planning and actionable steps.

I gave this example, so that you can see the importance of your self concept.

Self-concept is the perception, understanding, and beliefs that a person has about themselves.

This includes how an individual view their abilities, personality, values, appearance and even roles in society.

In the scenario above the disconnect between the individual and the goal was the self concept.

The individual was still attached to their old self concept, which included being shy and not putting themselves out there.

This lead to them not being able to go to auditions or take opportunities that aligned with what would require a different self concept.

If that same individual told themselves a different story, the outcome wouldn’t be the same.

For example, “I’m someone who is capable of doing new things” Or “I’m someone who puts myself out there, even when I’m nervous”

That mental switch would’ve carried that individual to the finish line.

Why?

Simply because when you change your self concept, it pours into every aspect of your life.

You start to look at opportunities and situations from a different point of view.

Your self concept is tied into your identity.

You can’t expect to level up your life, if you can’t even level up the way you view yourself.

Improving or changing your self concept doesn’t have to be hard.

Also there is not one secret formula to magically changing your self concept.

There’s many ways to improve your self concept.

Find one that works for you and stick with it.

Next week, I will be going into more details on ways to get your desired self concept.

It’s important to challenge yourself to be better and see how things shift.

One thing I will add, when I say shift, I don’t mean in the aspect of switching worlds and dimensions.

I mean it in a way of flicking a light switch on or off, but keeping the light on.

Go from having a poor self concept or maybe not one at all, to flicking the light on and seeing yourself as light.

Don’t fall into the trap of believing you have to research and plan your way to reaching a goal.

Only to reach it, and be unable to hold it.

Acknowledge that you have the capability of identifying as someone who is worthy of their desires.

Two Reading Suggestions

There has been many posts talking about how to regulate your nervous system circling the internet.

I am going to sharing five tips that are currently keeping me grounded and hopefully they can help you as well.

Disclaimer these results didn’t magically occur overnight, but it didn’t take months. Be patient with yourself and remain consistent.

Waking Up Grateful

Have you ever caught yourself waking up, worried about what needed to be done for the day?

Only to arrive at work and be thinking about what needed to be done, once you clocked out.

Then go home and be thinking about what needed to be done for the next day.

Our mornings can set the tone for the rest our day.

Waking up and recognizing what you are grateful for can put you in a positive mindset.

Creating a list that you can read in the morning can be beneficial.

For example:

I’m grateful to wake up with a roof over my head

I’m grateful to have a car to drive to work

I’m grateful to make money and be able to save towards my goals

I’m grateful to have people who love me

Repeating these affirmations consistently helps reinforce a mindset that’s grounded and ready to receive more positivity.

Hobbies

Hobbies have to be a cheat code to enjoying life.

Having something to do that is not a responsibility is freeing.

Recently I’ve been doing different activities that I wouldn’t normally do.

One of those activities being making DJ remixes and drawing.

Honestly, I’ve been enjoying it.

I love music and being able to manipulate sound to what I want to hear, scratches an itch in my brain.

I’ve created a mix using The Weekend, so I will share how to listen at the end!

I used to think that in order to draw you had to be good and I was not that great at it.

Until one day I decided I wanted to try to get better.

I will also add a photo at the end.

Getting back on track.

Set a side time to get to know yourself. Figure out what you enjoy doing that doesn’t feel like a chore.

Watch how your body shifts from surviving to just being.

Also pay attention to how you don’t have to use so much brin power (unless your hobby requires it lol.)

Step by step

Doing one thing at a time.

Just one.

Picture someone in the kitchen cooking, washing their hands, cleaning up after themselves, making their plate, with a book in their hand.

That would be me.

I have no shame about it.

Looking back, that was a lot going on.

Now I do one step at a time.

Which has lead me to slow down, and be more precise and present in what I’m doing.

If you relate, tell yourself, “I don’t have to do all this at once” or ask yourself, “Am I delaying myself by doing everything at once?”

Be honest with yourself, nobody is judging except for you.

Water my plants

Not literally, but I do aspire to have a small flower garden.

I don’t entertain negativity.

I don’t revolve myself around anything or anybody that would stop me from growing.

Having little to no negativity around me has gave me a lot of clarity.

The people close to me contribute to me being calm and happy.

That allows me to remain in a positive mood and head space for the majority of my day.

Surrounding yourself by the right people is really important. Being with the wrong crowd can come with unnecessary problems and unwanted stress.

Adding onto that, I make sure to give out the same positivity that I am receiving.

Pour into myself

If none of the tips listed are helpful, hopefully this one is.

Pouring into myself has allowed me to manage where my energy goes.

This is what mainly keeps me grounded.

Since my energy is getting poured into bettering myself and succeeding, very little bumps along the way, can threw off my energy.

After a long day of thinking.

I have made a decision.

Reaching our full potential is something we don’t want to do.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not because I believe we can’t do it.

If I’m being honest, it’s because reaching our full potential means that we have reached a limit.

We would be maxed out.

And why would we want to do that?

We would be limited to whatever our “full potential” may be.

Ask yourself , “what do I see my life consisting of, if I was at my full potential?”

My answer would be… having everything that I’ve been working for, but living in it, instead of working towards it.

After we achieve that, then what?

For me that is still unknown.

What I know for sure is I’ll want to progress further.

Another question, if we are constantly striving for more, will we ever reach our full potential or would we still be becoming?

I’m in a season of becoming right now.

Glancing into the past, I was also in a season of becoming.

I work towards a goal.

I reach the goal.

I set another goal.

I work towards the goal.

I reach the goal.

It’s safe to say that there is a repeated cycle occurring.

Let me add, I do not have a problem with that.

It’s just happens to be different levels to development.

For example, saving money.

Imagine someone has a saving goal of $200. Once they reach $200, they move the savings goal to $500. After that, they reach $500, so they move the savings goal to $1000.

The individual keeps raising the amount since they are constantly building.

They are able to raise the goal because they are capable of meeting that goal.

So they strive for more, instead of settling at the limit they initially had.

That’s what I can see myself doing in life,—even if I have reached the status of living in my “full potential.”

This would consist of

Raising the bar higher.

Looking for a new skill to learn.

Sometimes we often mistake temporary limits for permanent ones.

But we get to decide how to approach a situation differently and how to further develop in what we endure.

Going back to the scenario, if that individual decided to stop at $1000, would that mean they reached their full potential because they decided to limit themselves to that number?

The evidence shows that they are capable of reaching for higher and higher.

So the decision to stop would put a limit on what they are capable of achieving.

That’s not something we should participate in.

If I’m being honest, the whole concept is interesting to me.

People say to act as if you’re already your higher self, but why embody an identity limited by my current imagination?

What if my full potential exceeds what I presently consider “more”?

Trying to rush into your future self is like skipping to the end of a movie just to see one scene.

You miss the character development, the inside jokes, and the plot that made the ending meaningful.

Maybe growth isn’t about becoming who you think you’re supposed to be.

Maybe it’s about experiencing the story long enough to be surprised by who you become.

That’s what makes the becoming phase special.

It’s not that you are constantly becoming more, but the fact that you get to experience building on top of each moment that you’ve became.

You get tested with different experiences that pushes you past, what you first believed could’ve been your full potential.

Around two weeks ago I announced that I was doing previews for my Self Check Saturdays on Fridays.

I am no longer doing that, but I still enjoy creating edits for my work.

Two Suggestions:

Today I will be revealing one of my characters from my novel.

Her name is Amara Bennett, and she’s the first main character from my debut novel.

This story starts with a move into a new town, but what it turns into… is something she doesn’t fully understand yet.

That’s all I’ll say for now.

I used to think I had to wait until everything was “ready” before I shared anything from my book.

More chapters.

More clarity.

More certainty.

But I’m learning that building something in public is part of becoming the person who finishes it.

So this is me not waiting anymore.

You’ll meet more of her world soon.

This month makes 9 months of consistency in the gym. Some days I wanted to go, some days I didn’t. I showed up anyway. My body is slimming down, I’m stronger, and I’ve learned that progress looks boring until one day you realize you’ve changed.

These are five things I’ve noticed, while being nine months consistent in the gym.

1. Overnight Effect

One day I woke up and I was different. I was like wow, my waist is really smaller. My stomach is really slimming down. At first I was like this must’ve happened overnight. It’s said that results come, with rest. I had just woke up that morning, so I believed the results came in after a nice eight hour rest. In reality the results came after showing up for nine months straight.

2. Confidence Boost

My confidence has definitely increased. Working out hasn’t only improved my physical appearance, but it also improved my mental state. I’ve built more self trust within myself because being consistent is something I wanted to improve on this year. Fast forward, I am still keeping my word. I’ve started to no longer worry if something will fit me right and started to accept that I will look good regardless.

3. Becoming noticed

The people closest to me have started to realize that I take the gym and my health very seriously. They say, “She not going to eat that, she working on her figure.” Or “You know it’s okay to take a break from the gym.” It honestly makes me laugh. In a way, it motivates me to keep going because i’m seen as someone who participates in healthy habits.

4. Needing more

I noticed that the more results I see, the more results I need. It’s a different feeling watching your body change, to how you pictured it. Although I’m not completely where I want to be, I have proof that I’ll get there. That’s also fueling me to keep progressing. As I mentioned in my previous post, being patient is something I’m still working on. But I’ll say slow progress is better than no progress.

5. Stretching

Stretching has become something I always do. I can safely say, I love to stretch. I didn’t realize how stiff my body was until I started stretching. Stretching has also improved my workout sessions. I will admit I used to workout without stretching. Yes I know, terrible. On the other hand, I no longer do that. Also stretching is very relaxing, depending on the pose.

Something changed in me the day I realized I wasn’t a soft girl.

If someone would’ve ask me if I was, my answer would’ve been yes.

I enjoy beautiful scents.

I love the color pink.

I invest in my hygiene.

I take care of myself.

Somehow doing all of that still didn’t make me feel soft.

I still felt rough around the edges.

Something still felt hard and tough about me, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

Until it hit me.

There wasn’t nothing I could physically do to make myself more soft.

From the skin care routine

To girl maintenance

To shopping for a new wardrobe

I was maxed out on trying to appear as a soft girl.

What was causing me to still feel this way was the fact, I was hard on myself.

That rough feeling wasn’t stemming from lack of self esteem— it was coming from criticizing myself before anyone else could.

I thought if I criticized myself first, no one else’s words could hurt me.

That’s a very unhealthy mindset to have.

Hurting yourself first, before someone else can is not only a survival method— it’s also a coping mechanism.

It’s possible to get stuck in an unhealthy coping mechanism because it’s comfortable.

It’s something you become used to.

It’s something you fall back to when stepping outside your comfort zone gets scary.

What triggered me to realize this was happening, was due to me feeling stagnant.

The truth was that I was never stagnant to begin with.

Momentum is always happening whether I see it or not.

Something is always changing.

For example, I am nine months consistent in the gym this month. I recently felt like I looked the same or back tracked. That was discouraging since I go to the gym, do all this work and healthy eating to be met with no visible results.

Recently I put on a pair of my old clothes and my body looked completely different in them.

It was that moment, I knew I wasn’t doing anything for no reason.

Zoomed out, I go to the gym three or four times a week and eat healthy daily.

Zoomed in, I put myself through all this and see nothing.

“Where are my results? I must not be doing enough.”

“What I was doing was enough, I just needed to be patient and see.”

Do you see the switch?

How could I be so soft on the outside, but yet so hard on the inside?

That backfired since I started to feel rough around the edges.

Negative people and energy are impossible to dodge all of the time.

Being able to shine without waiting for external validation is a gift.

Don’t paralyze yourself because you can’t physically see what you desire.

Being hard on yourself when something is taking some time or not going your way, isn’t going to make anything better.

On the other hand, being soft and giving yourself grace, will help you get through what you are going through.

Don’t believe you’re losing strength, just because you’re vulnerable with yourself.

No matter the situation coming at you, looking at it from a regulated perspective, will make things work in your favor.

I’m currently working on this myself.

When I do something I go all the way.

When I dream, I dream big.

But when something interferes, I get to thinking, what could I have done to avoid this?

When in reality, it wasn’t something I could control or avoid no matter how much I planned for it.

I know I’m not the only one who thinks this way.

That’s when I realized I wasn’t an overall soft girl, but a girl who was soft with internal firmness.

Anything we think of ourselves can be flipped.

So I’m flipping the pattern.

Trading anxiousness for calmness

Trading urgency for patience.

But like I stated earlier, I’m still working on it, but I most definitely have started to see the benefits.

It’s easier to know things will be alright, rather than spiral.

Because when it turned out to be alright all along, the spiral was unnecessary.

Being a soft girl isn’t all about appearance.

It’s about being able to be soft to yourself and allowing things to work itself out—without regretting putting yourself down first.

A Small Milestone Worth Celebrating

I’m excited to share that I’ve officially completed 19 chapters of my upcoming novel.

There is still work ahead, but reaching this point feels special. What started as an idea has slowly become a story filled with late nights, countless words, and a lot of trust in the creative process.

I’m keeping the details under wraps for now because I want readers to experience the story without spoilers. What I can say is that every chapter has brought me closer to the world and characters I’ve spent months getting to know.

Writing a book has taught me that progress isn’t always loud. Sometimes it looks like showing up, chapter after chapter, even when the finish line is still out of sight.

Thank you for following along on this journey and for supporting my dream of becoming an author. Your encouragement means more than you know.

Two reading suggestions:

Discouraged but never defeated is one of my favorite lines.

Discouraged can mean to feel a loss of hope or confidence, often due to a perceived lack of progress.

Discouragement puts me in the mind of a roundabout.

Just because you miss your exit doesn’t mean you can’t go through a different one—or even go all the way around again to get to the one you missed.

Meanwhile, being defeated is to be overcome or vanquished.

Defeat can put you in the mind of failure.

The key difference between defeat and failure is that failure is attempting something and not succeeding, but with defeat, you surrender and stop trying.

Once I distinguished the difference between the two, I realized I couldn’t be defeated in any aspect of my life.

Neither can you.

A perfect example of this would be the movie The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith. He played the character Chris Gardner.

He was a single father who endured many hardships.

Some examples would be financial hardship and homelessness.

Despite everything that discouraged him, Chris Gardner had a dream.

He strived to have a better life for his son and himself.

There’s this specific scene that sticked with me.

It was the scene when Chris Gardner was at his lowest.

He had an awful and tiring day and went back to his apartment with his son, just to find out they were evicted.

With nowhere to go, Chris Gardner and his son went and slept in the bathroom at a train station.

Chris could’ve easily given up on himself.

As much as I write about positivity, you would believe I’m a positive person.

Not to say that I’m not, but there do come times when I’m the opposite.

If I’m being honest, being positive all the time is unsustainable and unrealistic.

Sometimes I crave the energy of destruction.

Not to ruin someone’s life or anything, but to destroy the life that’s holding me from the life I want.

To destroy the old identity that keeps me from entering the identity that I want to embody.

To burn down obstacles that try to come in between myself and the dream, that I’m trying to turn into reality.

For me, that’s more than enough reason to be crashing out.

“Trust the process.”

Why is there a process?

“Good things comes to those who wait”

I’ve been waiting. How much longer do I need to wait?

Don’t get me wrong, the advice works—sometimes. But I need to actually see change and not just be hoping.

If you relate or simply need advice on how to be more patient during the becoming phase, these are the tips that has helped me.

1. Let it out

Literally, let it out.

Scream. Run. Dance.

Do whatever you need to do to release the tension. The only thing beneficial about tension is the feeling of relief once it’s gone.

I will add, do not cause harm to yourself or others.

Taking the time to unleash built up emotions, promotes mental clarity.

So don’t be afraid to express how you really feel because putting on a mask during the becoming phase— shouldn’t be an option.

People enter their isolation phase for many different reasons.

Some do it because something tragic occurred, or they decided they wanted to take some time to better themselves.

And others enter this phase by accident.

They one day look up and see that they’re no longer surrounded by people they used to see or speak with frequently.

Something we can agree on, is that a lot of healing goes on in the isolation stage.

All that time spent alone, cancels out the noise that was distracting an individual from what really mattered.

But what really mattered?

The belief that giving more than receiving felt like it would maintain a secure connection.

Keeping your thoughts to yourself because nobody seemed to know how to listen when it was your turn to speak.

Seeing mischievous looks, but over looking it, because people with secret agendas aren’t supposed to be from the people closest to you.

Let’s be honest, removing yourself from all that noise strips someone of an identity.

It exposes them.

If you aren’t in a room filled with people who “knows” you by a social status or personality traits.

Then what makes you, you?

The isolation phase shouldn’t just be a form of escape, it should be a tool in discovering who you really are.

That doesn’t include; a job title, a wealth status, or someone else’s opinion.

That’s the type of questions that come with the isolation phase. It forces you to look inward, rather than mirroring what could be directly or indirectly influencing you.

Without constant external feedback you’re forced to use your own judgment and intuition.

You begin to build self trust and self confidence within yourself.

With that you ignite this desire to reach the higher version of yourself.

Proving to yourself that you can cancel out what has nothing to do with you and focus on where you want your life to go moving forward.

It gives room for creativity to grow, while allowing your inner child to still live.

Because when you take the time to heal and do the shadow work you’re proving to your current and past self, that you are the type of person that does the work to become the person you envision yourself to be.

With that you become the version of yourself your child self needed.

That’s what builds momentum for you to succeed.

To succeed without it stemming from anxiety, trauma, or fear of failure.

Its success rooted in protecting your peace, releasing control, and healing to the point of realizing that old belief systems or timelines don’t limit what you can achieve.

Because we are only a decision away from being whatever we aspire to be.

You learn to no longer rely on someone giving you a green light.

You don’t seek a pat on the back or a shake of the hand to believe that you are going somewhere.

Because with self trust and self confidence, you know who you are.

You know without a doubt that the vision that you see for yourself is only a process away.

With that there’s no limit to what you can do.

Isolation doesn’t have to be cutting the whole world off, but instead cut those who don’t align with who you are becoming.

Becoming aware of who you currently are, will show you what you need to work on in order to better yourself.

You can’t change without knowing change is needed.

You can’t water a dead plant and expect it to be same plant that once was.

You can’t shatter glass and expect each piece to fit together perfectly, but what you can do is decide what you want to do with the pieces.

Whether that’s trying to remake the original or recycle those pieces into something new.

Despite the cause or reasoning for stepping into isolation, the end goal is to come out ten times better.

To be able to use self preservation as an act of protection.

Making the conscious choice to pause, guard your energy, and heal isn’t shameful.

Shedding the old identity that was given to you by society, or those close to you, isn’t ungrateful.

It’s the version of yourself that is on the other side, shouting that it’s time to turn your attention inward.

To tune out the noise and be the best version of yourself, you know you can be.

I’ve previously announced that I was writing a book. I currently have the first 15 chapters done!

The process has been messy, but fun! I’m getting more into the thrill of things in the book, so that has been fueling me to finish.

It’s still an unnamed project, but I plan to drop details about the plot, characters and many more details when I am closer to finishing!

The Backstory

The other day I was on TikTok and I came across this video about a man creating a portal with frequency.

The video was blurry and looked as if it was taken in the early 2000s.

You may be thinking what’s so special about that?

To answer that, it was the comments that I came across.

People were actually confused on if the video was AI or real.

It’s been moments in the past when AI has tricked me.

The videos itself and the people in the video looked so real.

Theres challenges with AI being used. For example, the dancing baby trend.

Even trends that involve adding other “people” in them.

Circling back to what I saw in the comments, it was someone saying they seen that video before.

As someone who is always laughing harder at the TikTok comments than the actual video, I’ve seen this happen multiple times.

Someone posts a video that looks ”old timey”, but looks like it could be AI.

After that they debate in the comments if it’s real or fake.

Then there’s someone who “remembers” seeing the video or photo.

I’ll also add, I’m not saying whoever says this is lying.

It be a collective that agree, they’ve came across something specifically before.

The Global Glitch

What is the Mandela effect?

The Mandela effect is a psychological phenomenon where a large group of people collectively and vividly misremember the same detail, event, or historical event.

For example, the fruit of the loom symbol and Curious George.

Some people remember there being a cornucopia behind the fruit, some remember there wasn’t.

Some people remember curious George having a tail, some remember that he didn’t.

Which one do you remember?

AI does the same to an extent. A known AI tool is ChatGPT. ChatGPT is known to be more agreeable and helpful to the user. It’s prone to mirror the users stated beliefs or past shared information to provide an answer that’ll satisfy the user.

This gives AI the advantage to amplify misinformation.

If someone strongly believes they remember a particular logo or event a certain way, it may have been repeated back to them.

For instance, Uncle Sam’s hat. There’s plenty of commercials and pictures of him that come out around the 4th of July.

So of course repeatedly seeing something a certain way would lead you to believe that it is, the way you see it.

Right?

The Creepy Rise of the Tech Human

It’s crazy to watch all this unfold. AI is evolving and it’s evolving quick.

People are even getting scammed by AI over the phone because their voices sound real and convincing.

It even take pauses, like it’s taking a breath.

Which in my opinion is creepy, because AI is starting to mimic human imperfections to gain trust.

AI was created to be used as a tool to assist humans. It was made to replicate human intelligence and problem-solving abilities in a machine.

AI can easily change an original photo to fuel false memories, which means, it can also dissolve them by showing the original source.

In a way, it makes it a tool to manipulate human memory and perception.

The Ultimate Question

That’s what AI and the Mandela effect share in common.

The fact they both exploit the human memory.

We are not our phones, our brains don’t remember memories like a video.

It remembers them in pieces.

Where there are no pieces, there is space for imagination or manipulation.

If our memories can be shaped this easily, by repeated observations, a persuasive algorithm, or a synthetic voice, we are looking at the wrong threat.

The real question isn’t just “what is true?”

The real question is who decides what we remember?

Here are two suggestions:

As I rewatch my favorite childhood tv shows, I began to realize something about Hannah Montana.

Hannah Montana is a Disney TV show that first premiered March 24, 2006. It’s about this girl named Miley Stewart who lives a normal teenage life by day, but by night she transforms into the famous pop star Hannah Montana.

She hides her celebrity identity from her friends and school to maintain a simple life.

In summary, she’s a girl with a double life, who wants to keep her two worlds separate.

Miley didn’t want those around her to see her as Hannah Montana, or treat her differently because she was a star.

Miley was different from Hannah.

Yeah they are the same person, but Hannah is most definitely her alter ego.

Miley was teased in school. Had school rivals, Amber Addison and Ashley Dewitt.

They made fun of Miley and her best friend Lily popularity status, and constantly called them “losers” and “nobodies.”

Little did they know she was a whole pop star by night.

The same “A-list” pop star they adored.

Hannah was adored, not to say Miley wasn’t, but Hannah was seen to be more valuable because of her status.

There has been times, people almost caught on to the fact Miley and Hannah were the same person.

In the midst of that she would be scrambling and panicking, like her life would be over if someone found out the truth.

Imagine constantly switching identities to maintain a persona. It looks as exhausting as it sounds.

Something to ask yourself is, what actually kept her life separate?

Was it her taking on and off a wig?

Was it her changing from regular clothes to pop star attire?

Or was it her carefully hiding a version of her self from the rest of the world?

To later find out, the people close to her loved all of her— not just the versions of herself she kept unhidden.

How could she allow herself to be loved fully, by those around her if she wasn’t even comfortable enough to let that version of herself shine.

In the Hannah Montana Movie there was a scene, when she was trying to be at two different places at once. Trying to get the best of both worlds, all pun intended. Hannah is supposed to be at dinner with the mayor and Miley is supposed to be on a date with Travis, her childhood best friend. At the same time and location. After switching back and forth, she gets tired and lets her guard down. Travis witnesses her transitioning and becomes heartbroken. He felt betrayed because he believed Miley lied about who she really was and how she really felt.

That alone showed that her secret wasn’t protecting her, but causing damage to the ones who cared about the real her.

When Miley finally came to terms that balancing two worlds was unsustainable, she found peace.

The two worlds within herself, who were kept by separation, disappeared.

That goes to ask, what if what we hide to be accepted ends up preventing us from being known?

Details

A realization I had is that I’m improving on adding more details into my writing. When someone reads my work, I want them to feel what I have to say. To accomplish this I started to add more details or explain a topic further before moving on. I’ve been writing poems and I feel like it really challenges me to think in a different perspective. It pushes me to want to learn how to take a simple sentence and make it better.

Long vs short

Something that I had learned is that there are two different forms of writing, especially when it comes to substack. There are long and short forms of writing. I’m still unsure what category I fit into, but I’m not aiming to fit one form of writing. I don’t strive to have a certain amount of words or read time. I have heard that there is a decrease in long form writing, due to peoples attention span. Don’t quote me on that.

Editing

Me and editing have a love, hate relationship. I say this because I catch myself over editing instead of letting my words be. Sometimes when I change a sentence, it makes me want to change the whole concept of the paragraph. It might even nudge me to change the post or go with a different storyline altogether. I’m currently writing a book and one of the struggles I face, is leaving the chapter alone. So I’d say it’s harder for me to stop editing, than to stop writing.

Creativity

My creativeness is expanding. Writing has shown me that you can do a lot with words. Creativity has poured into different aspects of my life. When it comes to problem solving and reframing my boredom, creativity gave me the curiosity and flexibility to express my inner self. Something I acknowledged about myself is that it’s hard to switch out of my creative mode. I can be shopping and I’ll be thinking about what I can create or talk about next.

Growth

Growth is inevitable when you’re consistent. I’ve been writing and posting on multiple platforms, and one thing I can say for certain is that my growth is compounding. If I don’t see growth on one app, that’s fine because I’m growing on another. If none is moving, that’s okay as well, became I’m progressing with my book. I love to grow. I also love the support I receive from people who read my work. Every comment, message, or tag, genuinely makes me feel happy.

Something I can admit is that I am a person who moves with urgency.

Almost all the time.

When my alarm would go off in the morning, I’d snooze it and lay in bed longer.

After the first, two snoozes, and I actually decide to get up, I’m up and moving from there.

I’m in the bathroom washing my face and brushing my teeth, almost as if I’m in a race I didn’t sign up for.

Even though sometimes I would be late for work that wasn’t really the point.

I’d get in the car and travel to where I need to be and think about what I have to do when I get there.

As soon as I get there, I start to think about how I want to go home. Just to arrive home that night and go to sleep.

To wake up and do it all over again.

Until one day I asked myself, what am I rushing for?

Whatever I’m rushing to get to will still be there, when I get there. Nobody’s going any where. The building I need to get to isn’t just going to up and move.

Something about that regulated me.

I realized as long as I was going to arrive on time, there was no reason for me to be moving that fast.

So instead of automatically shifting into “go mode”, I’d linger in the slow awakening.

My version of “slow awakening” is basically doing something, but also doing nothing.

Waking up at a good time, not worried about what needs to be done later in the day. Getting up to get dressed, but also listening to my favorite songs. Pausing to sit on the bed and get caught up laughing at TikToks. Going to the kitchen to make breakfast, without moving like a tornado in a storm.

I have a busy life, so when my day starts, my time is getting poured into other things.

Taking time to myself has been a priority. And I don’t only mean, doing things for myself, but as well as giving myself time to be.

Something about slowing down has also enhanced my feminine energy. Not in a dramatic way, but in quiet ways.

The way I take my time getting ready instead of rushing through it.

The way I allow myself to enjoy moments without feeling like I need to earn them.

It feels like moving throughout my day instead of being pushed.

Slowing down my pace, has also slowed down my mind. Which has given me the mental capacity to actually enjoy being present; instead of thinking what’s next?

Because why rush? It’s not going anywhere. It’ll meet me when I arrive.
