Two month-long crochet blog hops start today, and as mentioned in my last newsletter, I’m delighted to be taking part in both.

Each event features a different designer and pattern every day, with a free PDF available on that pattern’s featured day.

Free Self Care Resources: self care library

Worked lengthways in one piece, it uses an easy-to-memorise double crochet 2 together mesh stitch and just 16 rows to create a lightweight, lacy scarf with beautiful drape.

I used four coordinating colours from my stash, but you can make it your own with fewer colours, different fibres or whatever yarn you already have waiting to be used.

No change here … the mosaic blanket is still in progress as is the tote bag and cross body bag. It’s been too hot to crochet (although it is cooler now!) ☹

This is the resource I teased you about earlier!

With AI-generated crochet and knit images becoming harder to recognise, it can be especially difficult to know whether the pattern behind a beautiful image is genuine – particularly if you’re a newer crocheter who hasn’t yet discovered the designers and websites you know you can trust.

Even those of us who have been crocheting for years are having to look a little more closely these days!

That’s why I’m so happy to be part of the new Crochet & Knit Designer Directory from Snappy Tots.

The directory was created by Heidi after her daughter, who was new to crochet, found herself being fooled by AI-generated crochet. She asked Heidi if she could make her a list of crochet designers she could follow and trust.

What started as a simple list grew into something much bigger!

The new directory brings real crochet and knit designers together in one searchable place, making it easier to discover the people actually designing, making and testing the patterns you see – and to find the websites and places where we share our work.

And this isn’t a static directory. It will continue to expand as more designers are added, so it’s worth bookmarking and coming back to whenever you’re looking for someone new to follow or a pattern you can feel confident about.

I’m proud to be included in the very first group of designers, alongside lots of other talented makers.

Aveline is a relaxed granny square shrug cardigan made from just six oversized granny squares. With simple fold-and-seam construction and no complicated shaping, it’s an enjoyable project to make and a lightweight layer that’s easy to wear.

This has been one of those designs that I played with quite a bit – from the size of the squares to how many squares to get the drape and structure I wanted. I’m so happy with how it finally came together to create the relaxed cocoon shape, and I can’t wait to see the colours you choose. 😊

Working On …

I’m still working on the mosaic blanket and in-between, I’m working on a baby blanket.

And the sunshine and heat continue … my son Alfie (still at home) has just bought an Aircon unit for his bedroom, tempted to base myself there haha.

We haven’t been anywhere near the beach or water as Clover injured his dew claw (which the vet removed) and the advice was to stay away from sand, river bacteria etc for a couple of weeks. It’s healed beautifully (and the claw grew back before a week had passed!). We’re tentatively planning to go to the beach tonight – so lucky to have options like this only a couple of miles away!

Worked in the beautiful Arcade stitch, it features graduated stripes, a lightweight drape, and a simple two-panel construction.

One of my favourite features is that you can assemble it in two different ways, giving you a choice of how the stripes flow.

The free pattern includes the different styling options (and info to help you choose based on body shape), full written instructions, sizing from S/M to 4X/5X, and all the yarn details to make your own.

Working On …

Last time, I shared the loop stitch sweater and the mosaic bag. All the crochet is done for the sweater and I need to seam and finish off the ribbed hem. I haven’t sewn the tube handles on to the mosaic bag yet mostly because I’m dithering about premade bag handles or crocheted tube handles. Do you have a preference for the crochet bags you make?

BUT I have been working on a new tote bag design. I ordered some yarn in the recent Sirdar sale specifically for this design and just had to get going 😊 You know how it is haha. I’m at a place where I can stop soon and then I’ll go back to the sweater (hmmm, probably).

Are you still crocheting for summer or have you moved on to your Autumn makes?

More heatwave weather in the UK. It seems to be all the time at the moment! I count my blessings that I no longer have to dress in business wear and wear closed-in shoes. Some evenings have been too hot to do much crocheting… the new tote bag motif is brilliant to work on, nothing covering my lap 😊

Every evening and at the weekends we’ve been out for Clover’s walks along the coast – much cooler than sat indoors or even over the woods. I need my time out in nature to boost my emotions, lucky that it’s possible to be able to do this. Clover is loving the water more and more and, on the beach, loves surfing the waves and being chased by them! It’s a good way to tire this pup out.

I haven’t researched for any roundups of free crochet patterns this year but it is on my list to do. If you’ve been with me for a while, did you find them useful? Would you like to see the roundup posts return?

Clover Update

He’s just hit 7 months old, where has that time gone!

Clover has had his first weekend away and did really well. Luckily, he sleeps in a travel crate (fabric and folds down) at home which was easy to take with us. And yes, he slept through both nights 😊 We stayed at our eldest son’s home in Windsor and last Friday walked Virginia Water (a man-made lake on the southern edge of Windsor Great Park). There is a waterfall and Roman ruins too. I’ve got to say it was a fab afternoon, just what we needed after the journey there. I’ve had shingles since 1^st June (well, didn’t feel well for about 5 days before that but the rash/spots came out then) but the antivirals helped with the pain a lot. I was tired though and slept really well Sunday night!

Here’s Pete and Clover on Friday afternoon.

He’s learned a lot of tricks and is mostly obedient. One thing left to crack … loose lead walking. If you have any tips, please share 😊

Clover Update:

Well, zoomies are few and far between now – hurrah! He’s still exploring the environment with his mouth but not as much and hardly any dandelion’s now (he tried them when they went to seed and decided he didn’t like the texture hahaha). He loves going out in the rain (although the same can’t be said for his humans 😊) and baths and even goes into the river without any prompts. This little pup is growing up (he’s 6 ½ months now).

We’re working on recall (any tips?) and although let him off the lead in the dog park, not confident enough to trust that he wouldn’t get distracted and go off anywhere else. We have a common on our doorstep but it’s split in two by quite a busy road …

I’m back, this time sharing news of my latest pattern just published on the blog for free.

My Clover Lane sweater design starts with just two granny squares, which are folded to create the yoke and sleeves before the body is worked in simple granny stitch rounds. It’s an easy crochet sweater pattern with no shaping, making it a lovely relaxing project with plenty of room to customise.

The free pattern on the blog is for a cosy cropped Aran version, and the ad-free premium PDF also includes DK and 4ply options in different lengths, neckline options in sizes S to 3XL, so you can create everything from a lightweight layering sweater to a cosy everyday pullover.

Clover Update:

His new favourite thing is … his ball. We’ve been training him how to drop and leave so that it’s more fun (instead of chasing him around, he can run after it time and time again). He also eats a lot less dandelions and daisies when he has a ball in his mouth 😊

Last weekend we had a couple of fabulous local walks. And pub stops 😁 It was great to visit one of our favourite walks at Knowlton Church.

This weekend we’re planning on a couple of beach walks – we’d still like him to be more comfortable around water so making the most of this wonderful weather on the South coast.

Never a dull moment with this pup around!

Free Self Care Resources: self care library

Today I’ve released my Blossom Cottage Granny Square Blanket for free on the blog and I’m so excited to share it with you.

This blanket has been such a joy to design (it’s my favourite!). I’ve combined floral granny squares, circle-in-a-square motifs, classic granny squares and a bobble stitch border to create a cosy blanket with a soft cottage garden feel. The mix of textures keeps the crochet interesting, while the colour palette gives it a beautiful vintage-inspired finish.

If you’re in the mood for a relaxing motif project, this one is perfect for slow stitching with a cup of tea or coffee nearby.

Clover Update: He’s still excited about his daily walks and wants to play with every dog … but he’s a bit wary of water (although very curious). We’ve been giving him opportunities at the beach, harbour and river. Finally at the weekend he got into a stream of his own accord at Delph Woods 😊

His latest fascination out and about is daisies and dandelions – he eats them, even when he’s running by - they must taste awful! And daisies are toxic (they’re everywhere at the moment) but so far, no upset tums. Apparently, dandelions are ok, they contain Vitamins A, C and K 🤷🏻

We still have the ‘witching hour’ but it doesn’t last as long now thank goodness!

If you have a pup or remember when your pup explored everything environmental with their mouths, do you have any tips for me please?

Coastal Breeze Crochet Sweater

My Coastal Breeze Sweater is an easy crochet pullover worked in one piece using double crochet stitches.

The relaxed design makes it a great project for confident beginners so if you want to try crocheting a sweater without complicated shaping, this design is perfect.

My pattern includes six sizes and two length options, so you can choose the fit you prefer.

I used a variegated DK yarn with long colour changes, which creates soft stripes across the sweater without needing to switch colours. Solid colours work too!

I’m sewing ends (and you know how I feel about sewing in ends hahaha) for:

• Cotton sweater (I have started this and the extra yarn I need is being delivered this morning)

Life is a bit more relaxed at home now Clover is out and about – although it’s exhausting watching him every second when we’re out so we’re aware of what he’s putting in his mouth. So far, there’s been spring flowers from our garden, lots of stones from pavements, a 5p and his current favourite is bees. He hasn’t been stung yet and panics at the buzzing in his mouth but that hasn’t put him off! It’s the movement that catches his eye. Apparently, this environmental exploring with their mouths stops around 8 months (he’s 17 weeks now). Please send strength hahaha

Sam (our eldest) and Lily came to stay over the weekend. Clover loved it and I think they left a bit of their hearts behind too 😊

Currently Working On …

• A short sleeve cardigan - I’ve loved working out the stitches and design of this one. The back is worked first and then the fronts directly onto the back so no seam at the neck. I’m all about comfy in my designs 😊

Plans for …

• A couple of short sleeve tops – I have yarn for one of them. I’ve been looking around for a suitable yarn for the other which I think I’ve found and will be ordering later on today.

Life is still a bit topsy-turvy with Clover. It’s so frustrating he’s not allowed out to walk yet - he’s a ball of energy and ready to go out! Second jabs are on Monday and even though we have to wait 2 more weeks after that, the vet has said we can start puppy classes the day after his jab on Tuesday. He’s almost 14 weeks now and seems to grow overnight … Here he is zipped up in Pete’s coat. We’re giving him as many different experiences as we can so he won’t be too scared when the time comes to walk.

As mentioned last time, I’m taking part in the 2026 Lapghans For Charity Blog Hop hosted by Simply Melanie Jane.

On this hop, all PDFs will be free for 24 hours on each designer’s day.

I’m hoping at the end of Feb, I’ll be sharing my hooded shawl pattern in the Selene collection with you. I’m aiming for around 26^th/27^th February and hope to be able to share with you in a newsletter around 27^th.

The plan is to publish the chunky open front cardigan (despite the yarn weight, it’s quite lightweight).

I also have a blanket finished that I’m desperate to share with you! It has a spring theme so March would be a good time 😊

My yarn has just arrived for one of those ponchos I mentioned last time. I can’t wait to get started on this one!

Thank you for your lovely responses about Clover. We’re trying to conquer the ‘witching hour’ right now. Who even knew that existed with puppies! Taz was 10 months old when we rehomed him so a pup is totally different for us.

You won’t be surprised to hear that Clover loves to snatch my yarn and run off with it and tries to grab the project I’m working on. My crochet time is a lot less haha We are training him with all the things, just hope my yarn loses its attraction soon …

A long time ago I bought a course that teaches crocheting socks. I did start to watch the tutorials just before Christmas but have been sidetracked … I often find socks uncomfortable (cotton or bamboo are the best!) so thought I’d give it a go. Have you crocheted socks? Were they worked in the round or worked flat and then seamed? I was hoping to research for a roundup but it might be for next autumn now.

In February, I’m taking part in the 2026 Lapghans For Charity Blog Hop hosted by Simply Melanie Jane. If you’re not sure how a hop works, designer’s are allocated a day and share their design on their day.

On this hop, all PDFs will be free for 24 hours on each designer’s day.

The hop is running from 2^nd to 23^rd February and my day is 19^th. I’ll be in touch on the 2nd when the hop starts with more information so you can check out each design. I’ll send a reminder when it’s my day 😊

I do have another pattern I’d like to publish in February (chunky cardigan) but this might be delayed because …

We’re hopefully picking up a puppy to come join our home tomorrow so life will be chaotic for a while! As a family, we feel that we are ready now (we still miss Taz but it doesn’t feel like we’re being pulled apart in our grief anymore). We do have mixed feelings but that’s only normal. Here he is with Pete on one of our visits.

As well as another pattern (hopefully) in February – I have a hooded shawl and a blanket that’s finished and ready to be shared, 2 sweaters I’m working on (almost finished!) and a cross-body bag. I have ideas for a couple of ponchos and top for the warmer weather. I’ve researched the yarn and am ready to buy. Hopefully my ideas look great in practice 😊 Just hope I get time …
