A lot of people are saying that Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants from Mexico and points south is being done by the simple technique of looking at people on the street, seeing if they look like people from Mexico and points south, and asking them if they’re in the country legally.

This is something they’re calling “racial profiling”.

Here’s an example from Twitter:

And here’s immigration lawyer Aaron Reichlin-Melnick reacting to it:

Here’s another one: David J. Bier, who turns out to be the pro-immigration Cato Institute’s immigration guy, says

Watch Bovino, head of Border Patrol’s racial profiling operation, approach a random Hispanic guy at what looks like a bus stop and demand to know if he speaks English.

And Chris Hayes rejoins:

The idea that this is in any way constitutional is insane.

David J. Bier thinks it’s “unconstitutional” for Mexican-Americans to be afraid of being mistaken for Mexicans.

The idea that “racial profiling” is unconstitutional is based on what I call “The 56th Amendment” There are in fact only 27 Amendments to the Constitution, but this is what you get when you multiply the 14th Amendment (citizens of all races have equal “privileges or immunities”) by the 4th Amendment (“The right of the people to be secure in their persons…against unreasonable searches and seizures.”) and 4 times 14 is 56.

That means that differential racial crime rates, no matter how true, are not evidence that can be used by the police to stop and search an American citizen for evidence of a crime.

Under the weird, and morally perverse “exclusionary rule” this means that if black defendant says that the murder weapon/pound of cocaine found on his person was only found because the police thought that he was likely to be the criminal they were looking for because he was black, then a judge has to “exclude” this evidence, and not show it to the jury, frequently allowing people to get away with murder. I call this the “right of the guilty to be found not guilty.”

Ann Coulter is also a lawyer, and her 2007 book Godless she wrote

The exclusionary rule is among the strangest policies ever concocted by the Court: In order to vindicate the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures, the criminal goes free. How about punishing the misbehaving policeman? How about docking his pay? Why do random citizens have to be raped, robbed, and murdered because of a policeman’s misconduct?

The exclusionary rule really only protects the right of the guilty to be found not guilty—which is not what the Founders intended.

One of the things that leads to complaints of racial profiling is the fact that more blacks are stopped for speeding or other traffic infractions. Activists believe that cops are stopping blacks “disproportionately” because they know that black are “disproportionately” likely to have drugs, illegal guns, warrants out for their arrest, and in extreme cases, kidnap victims and dead bodies—which is true.

However, it turns out that the same group that does all that is “disproportionately” likely to break the traffic laws—who knew? (Well, I knew, and wrote about in 2003, and Heather Mac Donald knew, and wrote about it in City Journal, but the people who didn’t know that included George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder.)

Still, as John Derbyshire pointed out in February, 2001, the imaginary “56th Amendment” doesn’t really apply to illegal immigrants.

In U.S. vs. Montoya De Hernandez (1985) for example, Chief Justice Rehnquist validated the detention of a suspected “balloon swallowing” drug courier until the material had passed through her system, by noting previous invasions upheld by the Court:

[F]irst class mail may be opened without a warrant on less than probable cause … Automotive travellers may be stopped … near the border without individualized suspicion even if the stop is based largely on ethnicity …

(My italics.) The Chief Justice further noted that these incursions are in response to “the veritable national crisis in law enforcement caused by smuggling of illegal narcotics.”

While the exclusionary rule may protect the “right of the guilty to be found not guilty”, it can’t protect the right of the illegal alien to remain illegally present in the United States, and even if there were such a thing as “56th Amendment”, it wouldn’t protect illegal aliens.

As a result of the attack on Nathan Cofnas after he exposed Jason Arday, people have been talking about “Eugenics” on Twitter. Cofnas is aware of the difference in average IQs between whites and blacks, and this is what is called “eugenics” nowadays.

The guy who Tweeted that isn’t a scientist, and responding to him, Steve Sailer said that the men who invented the ideas of evolution (Darwin) and the idea of eugenics (Galton) were cousins, and I pointed out that when you Google Darwin + Galton one result you get is this guy:

Wikipedia says that

Darwin was born at Newnham Grange in Cambridge,^[3] England into a scientific dynasty. He was a son of mathematician Sir George Darwin and a grandson of Charles Darwin. His mother was Lady Darwin, Maud du Puy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Darwin’s elder sister was the artist Gwen Raverat, and his younger sister Margaret married Geoffrey Keynes, the brother of the economist John Maynard Keynes. His younger brother William Robert Darwin was a London stockbroker. Darwin was educated at Marlborough College (1901–1906) and then studied mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating BA in 1910, later promoted to MA by seniority.

What this means is that talent is hereditary and runs in families. “Eugenics” is one thing, but what many people are refusing to believe in is heredity and genetics.

This is an opportunity to repeat what I’ve said before: “Eugenics” is what happens when cousins don’t marry.

Eugenics gets a very bad rap because of its association with (a) Nazism, and (b) American Progressives of the 1920s. Jonah Goldberg argued in Liberal Fascism, there’s not always that much of difference. (Goldberg once denounced the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show as “racist”.)

Discussing this in 2005, Steve Sailer wrote

“[E]arly supporters of eugenics tended to be…secular centrists and leftists who enthusiastically endorsed Darwinism without actually knowing much about it. Eugenics’ opponents were primarily religious, led by the brilliant Catholic controversialist G.K. Chesterton, author of Eugenics and Other Evils.

“Chesterton pointed out that the ‘positive eugenics’ of society arranging marriages among the most fit was self-defeating. If arranged marriages actually succeeded in breeding better men and women, the first thing these healthier, smarter, more robust individuals would do would be to tell society to butt out of arranging their marriages, and they’d go back to choosing their own mates!”

The Nazis had a whole weird ideology of race, and Eugenics Laws and Courts telling their citizens who they could marry and not marry. (They also had socialized medicine which determined how much treatment you were going to get based on your “social worth”—what Sarah Palin has called, in a different context, a “death panel”). All this was in addition to anti-Semitism, invading Poland, France and Holland, bombing London, and other ways the Nazis had of making themselves unpopular. (The Hungarian-born British comic writer George Mikes wrote “Hitler was a naturalized German subject. He was the worst bargain in history. No other naturalized person has ever caused half as much trouble to his new fatherland.”)They were doing this Eugenics Court stuff to their own citizens.

In America, Progressive thinkers of the kind decried by Chesterton were passing laws allowing for the compulsory sterilization of the mentally retarded, and people with “hereditary mental illness.” The victims here were often poor whites.

The problem was that they didn’t really understand retardation or heredity (DNA hadn’t been discovered at that time) and could easily sterilize the wrong people. The larger problem is that government can’t be trusted with that kind of power. (Although in 2009 Obama appointed as the White House “science czar” a man named John Holdren, who was on record as thinking it could. )

This is a point made, at the time, by G. K. Chesterton, Herbert Spencer, and Francis Galton, who may be said to have invented the concept of eugenics.

That’s what’s wrong with coercive eugenics laws—but there’s nothing wrong with the concept of eugenics, as such.

Comedians will squelch a heckler by pointing and saying “This is what happens when cousins marry!”

Eugenics is what happens when cousins don’t marry.

The reason for the ban on incest is basically eugenic. There are other reasons, of course, but the Tables Of Kindred And Affinity in the back of the Book Of Common Prayer, often quoted as saying “A man may not marry his grandmother”, are intended to prevent, among other things, the inbreeding which frequently reinforces recessive genes. That’s eugenics.

Tay-Sachs disease is caused by genetic reinforcement—if both parents have the gene for it, any children they have may get it. It’s often thought of as exclusive to Jews, but this is wrong—Cajuns get it, too. An Orthodox Jewish organization named Dor Yeshorim exists to provide a registry which will anonymously tell courting couples if their marriage is likely to reinforce the gene for Tay-Sachs, so that they can refrain from marriage. That’s also eugenics.

In 2000, Steve Sailer pointed out that both Melissa Etheridge and Jodie Foster had chosen sperm donors based on heredity. Ms. Etheridge had gotten David Crosby of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young to father her girlfriend’s child because of his musical talent. Ms. Foster had, according to the British tabloids, gotten a “tall, dark, handsome scientist with an IQ of 160”. That’s eugenics, too.

Gordon Liddy wrote in his autobiography, Will, that he had chosen his wife at least partly on eugenic grounds, seeking a wife he described as a “highly intelligent, tall, fair, powerfully built Teuton.”

Liddy’s decision to choose his own wife and the mother of his son on eugenic grounds is of course exactly the opposite of what the Nazi Eugenics Courts and the Virginia Mental Health authorities were doing. But, to show you how crazy people get on the whole concept of eugenics, this decision caused columnist Johann Hari to ask in an interview: “Isn’t that behavior at the very least in the shadow of Hitler?”[My Interview with G. Gordon Liddy, October 13, 2008]

That’s “eugenics craziness”—Liddy is a free man, in a free country, choosing his own wife, and it’s “in the shadow of Hitler?”

Basketball star Yao Ming, who was born in China, is believed to be the product of a state-ordered or encouraged eugenic marriage—his parents were the tallest couple in China when they married in 1979, and China is not a free country. Yao Ming is 7’5” tall. That really is eugenics.

But since I’ve spent so much time telling you what coercive eugenics has meant in history, now let me tell you that there are in fact still eugenics laws in the United States—because every law or policy decision that affects fertility has either eugenic or dysgenic effects.

A combination of welfare and tax policies mean that high-IQ couples will work two jobs and have no time for more than one or two children, while their taxes go to support single women on welfare who are having multiple kids. This is not only a white-vs.-black issue—the most famous two-lawyer couple in the United States is Barack and Michelle Obama, who have only two kids.

This leads down the road to Idiocracy, Mike Judge’s movie about a dumbed-down future.

The other obvious case of eugenics and public policy is immigration. Steve Sailer’s article about Melissa Etheridge and Jodie Foster mentioned above was titled What Feminist Celebrity Eugenics Teaches Us about Immigration Policy, and followed by Part II: How to Keep Immigrants from Regressing to the Mean.

What can immigration do to the genetics of a country?

Well, for one thing, it can make it dumber, on average. (Yes, I know about Albert Einstein and John von Neumann. I said “on average.”) Different nations have different average IQs. Under current policy, the US is not getting mass immigration from the smart nations. They tend to stay home and bloom where they’re planted.

Immigration can also make a country drunker. “Alcoholism doesn’t run in my family, it gallops” is an often heard cliché among recovered alcoholics, and a racial group is a “partially inbred extended family.”

Here I’m looking straight at Mexico, where much of the population is wholly or partly Indian. North American Indians have very high levels of alcoholism, and so do Mexicans. Their children will continue to have this problem, even if they assimilate to the beliefs of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

There’s also the Idiocracy factor—the poor construction workers and farm workers who immigrate tend to have more children than Americans do. Not only that, they have more children than they would have had if they’d stayed home in Mexico, because they can afford more children—with the aid of the taxes paid by the two-income American households.

And finally, dysgenics is what happens when cousins do marry.

I see a lot of references online to “inbred rednecks.” There’s an actual 1998 movie called Inbred Rednecks, which got a respectful review in the New York Times.

This is not true, if it ever was. There’s been a lot of internal mobility in the United States since it was founded, people have never needed to marry into their own family.

These countries, and immigrants from these countries, are not operating off the tables in the back of the Book Of Common Prayer, but out of a different playbook altogether.

Not only does this lead to clannishness, in its literal sense—“I and my brother against my cousin“ etc.—but it leads, obviously, to literal inbreeding.

There’s a British documentary about the dangers of inbreeding called When Cousins Marry—both the victims and the people supporting cousin marriage are "British Asians” I.E. Pakistanis.

So until the immigration authorities decide to focus on encouraging the Swedish Women’s Beach Volleyball Team to immigrate—because it is what G. Gordon Liddy would call highly intelligent, tall, fair, and yes, powerfully built—immigration is going to have a dysgenic effect—and immigration restrictionists are going to be called “eugenicists” for not wanting immigrants from Haiti and Pakistan.

But the laws of heredity will still be what they are, no matter how un-PC it is to say so.

Disgraced (and now dead) Cambridge Professor Jason Arday was in a way a victim of the DEI policies that let him get away with massive academic fraud, and placed him in a Cambridge professorship that he was unable to handle.

There’s a point of view called the “mismatch” theory that says DEI/affirmative action is bad for the blacks and other “underrepresented” minorities it’s supposed to help.

This was the point of the 2012 book Mismatch: How Affirmative Action Hurts Students It’s Intended to Help, and Why Universities Won’t Admit It and may explain Michelle Obama’s attitude towards white people…and America.

But bad as affirmative action may be for its intended beneficiaries, let’s take time to spare a thought for its intended victims: whites, especially white males, and in general the people who can pass tests.

Frederick R. Lynch'wrote a book in 1992 called “Invisible Victims: White Males and the Crisis of Affirmative Action”—Peter Brimelow reviewed it for the American Spectator.

The Invisible Victims were the white males replaced by less competent minorities, or who had less competent minorities promoted over them—and they didn’t want to complain, because men don’t want to complain.

Peter Brimelow wrote

A further factor in the paralysis: the peculiar male personality itself. These victims seem really to have believed that grown men don’t cry. A considerable number did not even mention their disappointment to friends, relatives, or fellow-workers.

Their wives almost never felt such inhibitions. “My wife is mad as hell; she’s angrier than I am,” said one man. Some wives absolutely insisted on being interviewed for Lynch’s study. One woman pointed out that discrimination against white males injures not only the men themselves, but their wives and families. “This ‘hidden’ or latent conflict generated by affirmative action between career women and homemaker wives has gone virtually unnoticed in the affirmative action literature,” Lynch notes.

Lynch’s book includes an appendix of anonymous personal stories of “reverse discrimination”—there are six pages of these, and I note that on the first page, there are two men who were able to take retirement from their unpromoted jobs in corrections because they had been physically injured by inmates: most likely black.

The “Invisible Victims” of Jason Arday are the white males who would have had Arday’s job as professor of sociology of education at the University of Cambridge, and all the other academic jobs he actually had. (He falsely claimed to have others, but while white guys wouldn’t have gotten away with that kind of lying, they mostly don’t have to.)

Other invisible victims—until he was exposed—were his white students. Publication of this story is being held up as evidence of racism on Twitter (a woman called Carole Cadwalladr calls it “monetised racebait”) but it’s a true story from a female victim.

Student victim Fiona Brown was invisible at the time and wants to stay invisible, for her own safety:

Fiona Brown is a pseudonym for a former student at the University of Roehampton. This article was first published by UnHerd.

A spokesperson at the University of Roehampton told The Times that Arday was employed by the university as a senior lecturer in the School of Education from September 2017 until February 2019.

The university has reviewed its student casework records and identified no complaints relating to Arday during his period of employment.

I presume the reason that this is being called “monetised racebait” by Ms. Cadwalladr is because it’s a white female victim, but if she read the article by “Fiona Brown” she’d see that not all Arday’s academic victims were white:

But even more than his lectures, what really disappointed me was how Arday failed his students. Roehampton is a very diverse university, both in terms of racial background and neurodiversity, and takes inclusion seriously. More than two thirds of the class were either black or from other non-white backgrounds. Most were women and most had come straight from sixth form as the first member of their families to attend university.

Other victims are the journalists who didn’t expose Arday, either because of being threatened with libel lawsuits by an expensive English law firm, or because they were investigated by the British police for “racism” or “harassment”.

And of course, the final victim is the man who did expose him: Nathan Cofnas.

Arday, who resigned after his various lies and plagiarisms were exposed, was “found dead” (a possible suicide, although police haven’t released a cause of death) and everyone is blaming Cofnas, who works for the University of Ghent—which has just suspended him.

I’m familiar with Cofnas, because he writes about race and IQ, and his previous firing (from Cambridge, the university where Affirmative Action case Arday had a professorship) was covered on VDARE.com: See Cambridge University Fires Nathan Cofnas For Mentioning Racial Gaps In IQ.

What Cofnas, who was a Leverhulme Trust research fellow at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, said was that

‘In a meritocracy, Harvard faculty would be recruited from the best of the best students, which means the number of black professors would approach 0 percent.

‘Blacks would disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment.’

This is probably true. Steve Sailer did a post on this called Has Any Supporter Of Affirmative Action Admitted Why It’s Necessary?

This chart, showing what admissions would look like at elite colleges shows blacks at 0.76 percent. But that’s students, not professors.

How many black professors would Harvard have if they were held to the same standards as whites and Asians? Probably zero.

Cofnas is academically everything that Arday pretended to be. When, four days ago, Wilfred Reilly predicted that they were coming for Cofnas, a popular anonymous account on Twitter summed it up this way:

Arday: Not smart, not qualified, purveyor of popular banalities, plagiarizer, pathological liar, coward, beneficiary of white guilt.

Cofnas: Smart, qualified, purveyor of unpopular ideas, no plagiarism, no lying, courageous, victim of white guilt.

The contrast couldn't be clearer.

Whittaker Chambers has been quoted as saying that the great failure of conservatives is that they do not “retrieve their wounded” by which he means that while the Left always has jobs for people who’ve been fired (or jailed!) for leftism, conservatives tend to let people like Cofnas just suffer. (Jason Richwine, who suffered a similar firing, now has a job with the Center For Immigration Studies.)

I hope that if Cofnas loses his job, that someone finds him another, for the sake of truth.

And while I hate to do this—see what Frederick Lynch said about white male victims above—I myself am in the same boat as Cofnas as a result of Letitia James forcing VDARE to suspend operations.

Virginia Dare, after whom the now-suspended VDARE.com was named, was the first child of English parents born in what is now the United States of America, on August 18th in 1587, 439 years ago today. She may be considered the foremother of the Historic American Nation, which is not descended from such rival claimants for the title of First Child as Snorri Thorfinnsson (allegedly born in “Vinland” (possibly in what is now Canada) in the eleventh century) and Martin De Arguelles, born in a part of New Spain which is now St. Augustine, Florida. They were earlier, but they were not what America today is descended from—culturally.

As a settler in a land full of what Thomas Jefferson would later refer to as “the merciless Indian Savages, whose known Rule of Warfare, is an undistinguished Destruction, of all Ages, Sexes and Conditions,” Virginia Dare was a white minority.

And as far as we know, she, and her whole family, were either massacred or enslaved by local Indians.

VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow wrote in 1999, when he founded VDARE.com, that

I have always been fascinated by the story of Virginia Dare. She was the first English child to be born in the New World, in August 1587, shortly after the founding of what was to become known as “The Lost Colony” on Roanoke Island off the North Carolina coast. It says something about the mettle of those settlers that any pregnant woman would cross the Atlantic, the equivalent of a lunar expedition at that time—and Virginia’s mother Elenor was no less than the daughter of John White, the colony’s governor.

Perhaps you have to have a daughter yourself to appreciate what White must have felt three years later, when he finally returned from a supply trip to England, much delayed by the Spanish Armada. The smoke he took at first to be proof of occupation turned out to be brushfires. The settlement stood abandoned. Over a hundred settlers, his daughter and granddaughter among them, had vanished. He would never see them again.

There’s a sort of tradition that Virginia Dare may have survived, assimilated into a local Indian tribe, and even had descendants. There’s a legend, as distinct from a tradition, that she was transformed by shamanic magic into a white doe.

This may or may not be true (Wikipedia gives her birthdate and says “date of death unknown”). But if it is, it’s kind of horrifying.

Tamar Jacoby once smeared us, criticizing VDARE.com’s immigration restrictionism in the Wall Street Journal, that ”Virginia Dare is thought to have eventually married into a local Indian tribe, or to have been killed by it—almost equally unfortunate possibilities [emphasis added] in the minds of VDARE[.COM]’s writers, who make no secret of their concern about the way America’s original Anglo-Saxon stock is being transformed by immigration” [Too Many Immigrants? No. America needs more foreign workers, by Tamar Jacoby, April 4, 2002].

At that time I replied that I didn’t think, like John Wayne in The Searchers, that Virginia Dare would be off better dead, but that ”yes, it would be unpleasant to be kidnapped from a massacred colony, and forced to marry into an Indian tribe.”

That’s why, in subsequent years, I wrote columns titled Virginia Dare, White Minority? and On Virginia Dare’s Birthday: Will Her Fate Be The Fate Of America?

We still don’t know happened to Virginia Dare, or any of the other people in the Lost Colony, but a Time Magazine list of Top 10 Famous Disappearances put Virginia Dare on the same list as Jaycee Dugard, which reminds us reminds us of what could have happened to her.

Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped by Philip Garrido, a California Hispanic sex offender, when she was 11, and held prisoner for 18 years. During her captivity she bore two daughters, who were 11 and 15 at the time of her reappearance.

Something like that may have happened to Virginia Dare. That is, even if all the adults were killed, she may have been kept and raised by an Indian tribe, and even had children. She may have descendants living on the North American continent now.

In 1999, Peter Brimelow pointed out that Heather Locklear is related to the Lumbee Indians (actually “tri-racial isolates”) of North Carolina, and that if

“through some miracle of genetic recombination, Virginia Dare is reborn in Ms. Locklear’s beautiful face, [Lost Colonist and Virginia Dare’s grandfather] John White might well have recognized her.”

In 2021 we learned that, according to the Census, America’s white population is declining in absolute terms and that, according to various Mainstream Media thinkers, this is a Good Thing, because it means that evil whiteness is declining.

That’s why we shouldn’t forget that if you’re a “white minority,” you face serious challenges. However, from the Lost Colony of Virginia rose the American Nation, and it’s been kind of hard to suppress since.

Sophie Cunningham, the 6’1 blonde WNBA player, has spoken out against men (even if they call themselves “trans women”) being in women’s locker rooms and endangering women by playing contact sports against them.

Here’s the quote

“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,’” Cunningham told ESPN. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

Some people have pointed to the fact that Cunningham was a place-kicker on her high school football team, which is true, as some kind of gotcha on hypocrisy grounds:

Of course, the whole point of girl placekickers in high school football is that no one is allowed to touch the placekicker:

In 2020, Vanderbilt University did what Steve Sailer described at the time as "the publicity stunt of dressing the school’s women’s soccer team goalie as their placekicker" and I explained that the reason they could get away with that is that no one is allowed to touch the (normally male) placekicker when he’s kicking a field goal. This is why football teams can hire European soccer players who walk on the field, kick the ball, and walk off.

Placekickers in the NFL are smaller and older than regular football players, because they don’t get hit, although occasionally they get bumped into during a kick return. Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller was not doing a kick return, and it would have been irresponsible of Vanderbilt to let her do so.

Here’s what happened in 1989, when 17 year old Tawana Hammond was allowed to play high school football for the Francis Scott Key Eagles as a fullback, notoriously one of the most brutal positions in the game—the job requirements involve “shedding tackles.

She was tackled in her first scrimmage, got internal injuries that required removal of her spleen and half of her pancreas and was in the intensive care unit for ten weeks, where she received 22 units of blood.

She and her parents sued the school, on the theory that they “failed to warn” her that football was dangerous.

None of these stories, by the way, make the obvious point that they should have warned her that football was dangerous for girls.

Basketball, men’s or women’s, is not supposed to be a contact sport, but in fact, there’s enough fouling in both leagues to make it one, as both Cunningham and her team mate Caitlin Clark could tell you:

Of course, supporters of the transgender craze simply refuse to admit that men (even if the call themselves trans women) are more dangerous than women, or that women, however athletic, are more fragile than men. Steve Sailer has written about the most obvious case of this—transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox, who fought and injured women in women’s mixed martial arts:

To quote Steve:

Ray Rice beating up his fiancé (now wife) is the worst thing in the history of the world because Rice is a man, but Fox beating up women for money requires our You Go, Girl approbation because Fox is an ex-man.

Now there are male players agitating to get into the WNBA in what people are calling a stunt, because they’re actually normal men, not sincerely mentally ill trans women, the WNBA is having to decide what the rules are, and they may wind up doing what Sophie Cunningham called for, and protecting women from male violence.

But the people organizing sports have spent a lot of time these last ten years refusing to protect women, and it’s almost surprising while there are have been many injuries of female players by “trans women”, that there have been no actual fatalities on the field. It’s time this was stopped.

The case is the Wichita Massacre: a black-on-white rape and murder attack on five people 10 days before Christmas in the year 2000. The victims (four of them pictured below—one woman amazingly survived) were all white, the rapists and murderers, brothers Reginald and Jonathan Carr, were both black.

Here’s what Scott McConnell wrote about it in January 2001, on VDARE.com, in a column titled Unfit To Print:

The news reached me over New Year’s weekend. A horrible murder took place in Wichita, KS, 10 days before Christmas. It had received virtually no coverage beyond the local news.

The victims–three men and two women, white and in their 20s–were gathered in a home in a middle-class neighborhood. Two were teachers; two were engaged; one intended to become a priest. At 11 in the evening, two black men, Reginald Carr, recently released from prison, and his younger brother Jonathan, allegedly forced their way into the house, abducted the five at gunpoint, drove them around in two cars, forcing them to withdraw money from ATMs. Then they took the victims to a soccer field and forced them to kneel in the snow. They undressed the women, and raped one or perhaps both of them. Then they shot all five execution-style in the head. Four died, but one woman lived. Bleeding from her wound, she ran naked through the snow for a mile, miraculously reaching a house where she got help. The suspects were arrested the next day.

Wichita is shaken and mourning. A thousand people turned out for the funeral of one victim, Jason Befort. Rev. James Dieker, celebrant at the funeral Mass, told those gathered to look not for vengeance, but to the wisdom of Jesus on the cross: “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what to do.”

Assuming that the criminal justice system will do its duty, those words may be the right ones. [More]

And of course, the criminal justice system didn’t do its duty, largely because of the left-leaning, unelected Kansas Supreme Court.

For a long time, this case was something that only conservatives with an interest in race and crime even knew about, so I was a little surprise to see Kris Kobach doing an interview on it, but then I realized that he’s Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, and the death penalty in Kansas is his responsibility.

In 2002, I did a VDARE.com column called Remember Wichita - One Year Later and in 2014 John Derbyshire did a column called The Wichita Horror, Year 14.

American Renaissance did a detailed report on it in August 2002, which was reprinted in 2020 on the anniversary of the attack with the subhead “20 Years Ago Today”

There have been no executions in Kansas since 1965, although the death penalty was reinstated by law in 1994. The reason, as explained by Kris Kobach on video above, is the unelected Kansas Supreme Court, which has, in effect, been standing in the courthouse door chanting “Murder today, murder tomorrow, murder forever!” (But no executions.)

The Kansas Supremes set aside the Carrs’ sentences for the usual specious liberal reasons in 2014, but an appeal to the US Supreme Court had the sentence reinstated in an 8-1 decision, with some strong remarks from Alito and the late Antonin Scalia. (If you’re wondering who the 1 in the 8-1 decision was, it was Sotomayor.)

However, tomorrow, August 4, there’s an election in Kansas with a ballot measure that will change the Kansas Supreme Court from unelected to elected.

Politico calls it “The sleeper referendum that could reshape the national judiciary”, which judiciary in my view (not Politico’s) badly needs reshaping.

Politico seems to feel that, as this guy puts it, that “Too much democracy will be the death of democracy.“

However, if you live in Kansas, this a change worth voting for. Unelected judges have been siding with murderers for too long.

“Taco Bell Diarrhea” is making Americans sick all over. The NY Post says 7,000 people are “suspected to have gotten sick across 34 states since May.”

It’s not caused by eating Taco Bell food, it’s cyclosporiasis, a parasite that you get in lettuce that is prepared, or harvested under unsanitary conditions that seems to be rife at Taco Bell, which has taken “Lettuce, Cilantro Onion, Pico de Gallo, and Guacamole“ off the menu in response.

How did Taco Bell get lettuce harvested under unsanitary conditions? By buying it from Mexico.

In 2003, Taco Bell was accused of buying lettuce picked (in Florida) under slave labor conditions by Mexican “migrants” I.E illegals. That was probably also unsanitary for the same reason. Also, of course, Taco Bell, like all fast food chains, employs a lot of illegal aliens.

Mexico is famous for its unsanitary conditions, such that drinking Mexican tap water can cause explosive diarrhea, and Mexican immigrants, as I covered repeatedly during my years writing for VDARE.com, do not know about, and if told, don’t believe in, the Germ Theory of Disease.

I’ll reproduce, slightly edited, part of the second one of those articles.

You all know what germs are, but do you remember where you learned? I learned about germs many years ago, in both in school and at home. There was some kind of Golden Book of the History Of Medicine for children that I read, and it had the history of the Great Men of Medicine.

Hippocrates and Galen, in in ancient Greece, Vesalius who invented anatomy, in spite of medieval objections to dissecting human bodies, Morton and Liston who performed the first operations with ether, Van Leeuwenhoek, the Dutch inventor of the microscope who saw “little animals” crawling about on scrapings from his teeth, Pasteur, who invented microbiology—and Joseph Lister, who invented antiseptic surgery. (These all seem to be white men, so maybe that book isn’t used today).

The Germ Theory of disease is a basic fact of life to you—but it didn’t just happen, someone had to discover it. Occasionally you will hear that whites committed genocide against “Native Americans” by giving them diseases. But in 1492, and for many years after, whites didn’t know much more about germs than the Indians did.

Similarly, we now have immigrants from primitive countries who don’t know that germs exist—and who, when you tell them, don’t believe it.

This is not a new problem. In the middle of the 19^th Century, ships bringing the Famine Irish brought cholera with them, because of the crowded ships and the squalor of the receiving slums in America. I wrote about this in 2001 for VDARE.com: I called the article The Camp of Saint Patrick.

A later 19^th century immigrant, an Irish woman from County Tyrone named Mary Mallon (1869 – 1938) who worked as a cook, became famous for being a typhoid fever carrier. She was asymptomatic, so she was never sick, but 53 of the people she cooked for got sick, and three of them died. She was confined for a while by the New York public health authorities, released and given a job in a laundry, where she wouldn’t infect people. Apparently she didn’t believe she was infectious, so she started cooking again under a false name.

After that, she was locked up for the rest of her life. She’s known as “Typhoid Mary”.

Mary Beth Keane, author of Fever, a novel about Typhoid Mary, wrote an Ebola-era piece in Time magazine, The History of Quarantine Is the History of Discrimination, [October 6, 2014] retroactively excusing Mallon and condemning the New York Public health authorities, saying they should have “educated” her.

Well, they tried to educate her—but Mallon refused to believe them. And Keane says essentially the same thing about Ebola carrier Thomas Duncan, who lied his way on to the plane from Africa:

“But when one moves the camera back and takes in the culture out of which that lie was born, including but not limited to the widespread denial among West Africans that Ebola is a disease at all (as opposed to a curse), it becomes far more complicated.” [Emphasis added]

Right! This is premodern thinking. Apparently women born in County Tyrone in 1869 couldn’t comprehend the Germ Theory of Disease, and neither could a Liberian—or a lot of current immigrants from primitive countries.

Mary Mallon from County Tyrone was a lot more modern than a Somali Bantu immigrant, who, according to refugee advocates, have never operated a doorknob until they came to America.

She was also more modern than an Indian from the Mexican state of Chiapas, who in spite 500 years of Spanish colonialism, still haven’t even learned Spanish, let alone English.

In 2007, almost 20 years ago, I noted that an outbreak of listeriosis caused by insanitary home-made cheese (known as “bathtub cheese” ) in South Carolina involved “Latinas” who, according to focus groups, were unaware “of listeriosis, of other infections related to unpasteurized milk products, or of the association between infection and pregnancy complications” and many of whom were unwilling to “accept the idea that health risks are associated with unpasteurized milk”.

That’s why I wrote in 2018 about E.Coli And Immigration—Your Lettuce Is Picked By People Who Don’t Know What A Germ Is, And Won’t Learn.

So if people are complaining that “Taco Bell Diarrhea” is caused by Trump cutting the CDC—and they are—they can be cheered by the fact that Trump is lowering the number of fast-food workers who refuse to learn what a germ is.

So it is not monolithically white, but they do have a number of white players, including all three goalkeepers—see below for why that might be.

Which is why this is something of an exaggeration

What Steve is talking about in this paywalled post is the difficulty of making the African-Americans who make up the majority of the NBA and NFL get interested and in, and skilled in, the game the rest of the world plays.

What stands out about these We Get the Best Athletes demands is that I haven’t yet heard a single plan for how to persuade African Americans to care about soccer.

It’s the usual confused conventional wisdom imposed on American discourse by the taboo on public discussion of human biodiversity.

Everybody in America sort of knows that when we talk about “the best athletes” we are basically talking about blacks. But we aren’t supposed to say that because it implies that there are significant racial differences, which is a no-no.

And because they aren’t supposed to talk about Nature, their opinions on Nurture tend to be unrealistic.

European soccer teams are the products of a disciplined farm team system, and the incentives of possible professional success in English, Spanish and German pro teams like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

American blacks aren’t that interested, not typically that disciplined, and if they have the “athleticism” to succeed in soccer, would be throwing millions of dollars away by not going into American sports. But there are still a lot of people who feel soccer is “too white”.

Also, they may have the wrong kind of athleticism. For example, Richard Sherman, seen below in the interview that slightly terrified interviewer Erin Andrews is 6’3 and weighs 195 pounds.

When football players run, it’s in 40 yard sprints—if they’re lucky. English soccer icon David Beckham is 4 inches shorter, thirty pounds lighter and would run up to ten miles in the course of a soccer game.

When I asked Google how far a soccer player runs in a game, it told me:

Professional soccer players run an average of 6.5 to 8.5 miles (10 to 14 kilometers) during a 90-minute game. The exact distance covered varies based on the player’s position, with central midfielders generally running the most and center-backs running the least. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Distances can be broken down further depending on the player’s position and the specific demands of the match:

Midfielders: Typically the highest mileage players, frequently covering between 7 to 9.5 miles (11 to 15 km) per match as they transition between offense and defense. [1, 2]

Forwards: Average roughly 5 to 7 miles (8 to 11 km), incorporating bursts of high-intensity sprints. [1, 2, 3]

Defenders: Usually cover between 6 to 7.5 miles (9 to 12 km), though this depends on how much their team is under pressure. [1, 2]

Goalkeepers: Log the lowest distances, generally covering only 2 to 3 miles (3 to 5 km) since they are restricted primarily to the penalty area. [1, 2, 4]

Blacks are always winning the 100 meters, but Usain Bolt has apparently never run a mile in his life.

Another factor that helps blacks dominate the NBA is “wingspan”—irrelevant in soccer where you’re not allowed to use your hands on the ball

The star player on a soccer team is the “striker”. This is a position involving scoring with accurate kicks, a skill practiced for years. It’s the same kind of skill as pitching a baseball. (MLB pitchers are disproportionately white.)

The same kind of skill as throwing a forward pass—NFL quarterbacks are very much disproportionately white.

It’s the same kind of skill as hitting a golf ball—except for that one guy, pro golfers are almost all white.

And all of that skill, whether it’s striker, pitcher, quarterback, or pro golfer is developed by focused, unremitting practice.

South African pro golfer Gary Player, above, is said to have once met a fan who said “I’d give anything to hit a golf ball like you”.

Player’s reply (allegedly, this is one of those stories that gets repeated over and over again) was:

“No you wouldn’t. You’d give anything to hit a golf ball like me if it was easy. Do you know what you’ve got to do to hit a golf ball like me? You’ve got to get up at five o’clock in the morning every day, go out on the course, and hit one thousand golf balls. Your hand starts bleeding, you walk up to the clubhouse, wash the blood off your hand, slap a bandage on it, and go out and hit another thousand golf balls. That’s what it takes to hit a golf ball like me.”

That kind of attitude is not really typical of the African-American athlete.

I should also add that what makes a good striker, pitcher, or quarterback is also coolness under pressure…which is also what makes a good pistol shot. I did an article on why blacks typically can’t shoot very well, as seen in Sailer’s Law of Mass Shootings:

In that article I wrote that in his well-known Principles Of Personal Defense, [Full text] self-defense and combat marksmanship guru Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper claimed that “Coolness” was necessary for winning gunfights started by other people:

The ability to remain cool under pressure comes more easily to some people than to others. But it is in no sense out of anyone’s reach. In fact, it is the first qualification of a man that Kipling calls for in his immortal poem If. It is illustrated beautifully every time you see a quarterback calmly select and hit his receiver while under the threat of more than one thousand pounds of rock-hard, cat-quick muscle only a step away.

The quarterbacks Cooper was talking about are almost all white—funny thing, that.

So based on that, I don’t think American blacks are likely to join American soccer in any great numbers—or lead the American Team to victory if they do.

Robert A. Heinlein was born on July 7, 1907, in Butler, Missouri. That means he’s part of America’s vanished past. He was born not only before the Immigration Act of 1965, but before the Immigration Act of 1924, and he lived much of his life during America’s great Immigration Pause.

Heinlein’s 1957 book, The Door Into Summer, is set in the future of 1957, but it’s really about the past—the protagonist is designing something very much like the Roomba automatic vacuum cleaner, and explaining why it’s necessary:

What was the last thing to go automatic? Answer: any housewife’s house. I didn’t attempt to figure out a sensible scientific house; women didn’t want one; they simply wanted a better upholstered cave. But housewives were still complaining about the Servant Problem long after servants had gone the way of the mastodon. I had rarely met a housewife who did not have a touch of slaveholder in her; they seemed to think there really ought to be strapping peasant girls grateful for a chance to scrub floors fourteen hours a day and eat table scraps at wages a plumber’s helper would scorn.

That’s why we called the monster Hired Girl—it brought back thoughts of the semi-slave immigrant girl whom Grandma used to bully. Basically it was just a better vacuum cleaner and we planned to market it at a price competitive with ordinary suck brooms.[Robert A. Heinlein, The Door Into Summer, 1957]

The point is that in 1957, Heinlein had foreseen the possibility of an automatic vacuum cleaner, not actually marketed until 2002, but he had not foreseen the Immigration Act of 1965—he was living during the Great Pause.

In 2022, Steve Sailer wrote a post about women and work and said

A century ago, middle class women typically had a servant or two to help out around the house. Then immigration was cut back in the 1920s and when servant girls went off to work in factories during WWII, lots of bourgeois matrons had to learn in mid-life how to do numerous household chores. (In Heinlein’s The Door Into Summer, the inventor of the first home robot chooses as the brand name of his mechanical maid “Hired Girl—it brought back thoughts of the semi-slave immigrant girl whom Grandma used to bully.”)

But this was taken on mostly in a spirit of supporting a more egalitarian America. In Professor-Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison’s Oxford History of the American People, from around 1970, he inserts a page of praise for matrons like his Boston brahmin wife, who had to learn how to keep house in midlife due to the democratization of American life.

Here’s how that would play out in popular culture: this is Shirley Booth as Hazel, a white American live-in maid to a suburban family with one child, in 1961-1965 show called Hazel.

How could the family afford her? Well, according to IMDB, ”George Baxter was a highly successful corporation lawyer” and partner in a law firm.

This is Samantha Stephens (the blonde), a stay-at-home wife and mother who has magic powers (Bewitched, 1964-1971) but does not have a maid. She keeps house using normal human methods, and when she has a dinner party, below, it’s a small one that she cooks for herself. Her husband is a junior executive in Madison Avenue advertising firm.

What it shows is that during an immigration moratorium, Americans can do without foreign servants, and prosper besides.

Next weekend is White-People Independence Day, you know if Juneteenth is Black People Independence Day, well, that means that we get to claim July 4th as our Independence Day. So we’ll call it White Independence Day, you know, “WID.”

White People’s Independence Day is what Chris Rock called it in a notorious Tweet during the Obama Administration:

Back before the Civil War, escaped slave Frederick Douglass asked “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” His answer: not much. And to the slaves’ descendants, apparently, less.

We might now ask “What To The White Man, Is Juneteenth?”

Juneteenth, as many people only learned in 2020, is the day, two months after the surrender at Appomattox, that slaves in Texas finally learned, from Federal troops, that the Confederacy had lost, and they were now free, thanks to the wartime 13th Amendment. (Not the Emancipation Proclamation—that applied only to slaves in states that were in rebellion, so that, for a brief bizarre period, one person legally enslaved in places where General Grant was campaigning was a maid owned by Mrs. General Grant, who often accompanied her husband and was not required to free her slave because she herself was not a rebel.)

It’s clear that Juneteenth is about black people. That allows us to be clear that the Fourth of July, like most of American history, is about white people. Although black people refuse to accept it, most of American history (including the Civil War) is not about them.

This is the whole point of the New York Times’s much-refuted, but not withdrawn or apologized for “1619 Project.” Their idea—their crazy idea—is that the American colonists only rebelled against Britain because they could see into the future, and realized that 19^th Century Britain would become abolitionist, and free their slaves.

Be that as it may, one of the reasons many blacks have been refusing to stand for the anthem is that they’re not loyal to the United States of America because the Historic American Nation is white.

That doesn’t mean that no one but white people can be American, just that the symbols of the American nation—George Washington, Uncle Sam, even Lady Liberty—are white symbols and that’s why many blacks (like Chris Rock) and non-white immigrants are aggressively anti-patriotic.

For the rest of us, well, John Adams, discussing the vote that had just been taken by the Continental Congress in favor of independence, said that it

“will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this Continent to the other from this time forward forever more.”

Thanks to the minor miracle of the 2024 election, America has a President who agrees with John Adams.

Do you think Kamala Harris would have sincerely celebrated America’s 250th? She would have apologized for America all year.

Gavin Newsom’s Circle of Corruption

Across nearly three decades in politics, the governor has assembled a roster of criminal connections.

I would have said “Newsom’s MULTI-RACIAL Circle Of Corruption”—Heritage Americans are rare among the criminal associates of Governor Newsom.

The first on the list is Dana Williamson, who is, in fact, a white woman:

but she worked for Mexican-American politician Xavier Becerra (Joe Biden’s Secretary of Health and Human Services) whose mother was from Guadalajara.

One of the many crimes she’s accused of is stealing $225,000 from Becerra’s “dormant campaign fund.”

Next is London Breed, the black Mayor of San Francisco.

Newsom served as San Francisco mayor from 2004 to 2011. One of his most enduring “accomplishments” was boosting the political career of London Breed, the future city mayor who proceeded to commit multiple ethics violations and is reportedly under federal scrutiny for alleged corruption.

Newsom repeatedly promoted Breed. In 2005, he appointed her to the city’s Redevelopment Agency Commission. In 2010, he named her to a post at San Francisco’s Fire Commission. These appointments likely helped Breed win San Francisco’s 2018 mayoral election.

One corruption scandal in Breed’s administration—one you wouldn’t get from Nancy Pelosi—is using her Mayoral office to appeal (successfully) to Governor Jerry Brown for a reduction in sentence for her criminal brother, Napoleon Brown:

Next on Newsom’s multicultural list of cremini associates is Mohammed Nuru:

Mohammed Nuru was a public works official under Mayor Newsom. For years, Nuru was a major figure in city politics, exercising “substantial power and influence over” San Francisco’s “business and policy, including its public contracts, permits, and construction projects.”

In 2020, Nuru was arrested for his role in a massive bribery and corruption scandal. For more than a decade, he had orchestrated a bribe-and-kickback racket, exercising his political power in exchange for cash and gifts. In 2022, Nuru pleaded guilty to federal charges and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Newsom’s ties to Nuru predate his mayoralty. Nuru had reportedly volunteered on Newsom’s first mayoral campaign while serving in city government. In 2003, Nuru allegedly helped orchestrate a coercive voting scheme through the San Francisco League of Urban Gardeners (SLUG), a city-funded nonprofit under contract with his department.

Nuru was born in England, and apparently raised on a farm in Nigeria, before coming to the US to study and never going home. I’m not sure exactly what his ethnicity is, but let’s say “Nigerian”. He once dated Mayor London Breed.

Here are some more corrupt San Franciscans associated with Newsom and the San Francisco Democrats:

“Permit Expediter” Walter Wong: born in Hong Kong in 1948 and immigrated to San Francisco at age 23, I.E. as a result of the Immigration Act of 1965;

Melahat Rafiei, born in Iran:

Mark Ridley-Thomas, a regular black American, like London Breed:

Rodrigo Santos, a native of Ecuador:

Rudolph Dwayne Jones, a black American:

There are a couple of white ethnics in Newsom’s circle of corruption, but most of them are some kind of minority.

City Journal says

California’s culture of self-dealing and corruption stretches back decades. As mayor of San Francisco and now governor, Newsom has had ample opportunity to change it. Instead, he has spent nearly three decades in politics surrounding himself with many of the people responsible. As the old saying goes, “You are the company you keep.”

In fact, San Francisco corruption goes back more than a hundred years. Dashiell Hammett, a real-life detective before he became a novelist, had Sam Spade say “Most things in San Francisco can be bought, or taken,” and even then it was ethnic mobs that were in the forefront of crime.

But to the extent that California Democratic Governor Newsom, who may actually run for President on the Democratic ticket is the “company he keeps”, that company, aside from being corrupt, is mostly minority and foreign.

It’s one more example of Peter Brimelow’s thesis that the Democratic Party is reaching a ““tipping point”—becoming so dominated by minorities that the remaining whites suddenly stampede for the exit, a phenomenon well-documented in neighborhoods and schools” as you can read here on VDARE.com

It’s June 19th, and that means it’s only about two weeks until the Fourth of July, which John Adams said should be ”solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations.” Certainly that’s what President Trump has planned.

That’s not good enough for America’s black population, though.

They tend to consider the Fourth of July to be “White People’s Independence Day.”

Blacks have their own Black Independence Day—“Juneteenth,” today as prominent a national holiday as Martin Luther King’s Birthday is and as George Washington’s Birthday… isn’t. (We’re supposed to call it “Presidents Day.”)

In 2024, the Washington Post published an article titled What to know about Juneteenth and its historical significance by Indian immigrant reporter Niha Masih.

Whenever I see the words ”What to know” in a headline, I get the feeling that the reporter has some things we’re supposed to know, that she’ll tell us, and there are other things not to know, which she’s keeping from us for our own good.

Here’s something to know about Juneteenth: It’s dangerous.

A while back, I asked “What, To The Historic American Nation, Is Your Juneteenth?,” based on a similar question asked by black Abolitionist Frederick Douglass before the Civil War.

I concluded that it wasn’t very important historically and is basically an anti-white hate fest.

What Juneteenth means in practice, however, even before it was an official Federal holiday, is a huge summer street party in black neighborhoods. And what that means, this year as much as in earlier years, is rioting and gunfire. Badly aimed gunfire, true, but frequently lethal.

Here’s a typical report from four days ago, in Jacksonville, FL:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mikayla Hooper [Pictured]was invited to the block party on Norfolk Boulevard Saturday night. She didn’t go.

“My first thought was there’s gonna be shooting,” she said. “And to think that you can’t even just go have some fun, just doing what teenagers do, and you could possibly lose your life. That’s just sad.”

Four people were shot Saturday night at a large block party outside the Prime Time Food Store on Norfolk Boulevard in Jacksonville’s Sherwood Forest neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

So what is Juneteenth to you and me? A day to stay inside, or if not, at least to avoid large crowds of blacks, obeying Derbyshire Rules (10a) through (10e) from John Derbyshire’s 2012 The Talk: Nonblack Version:

10a) Avoid concentrations of blacks not all known to you personally. (10b) Stay out of heavily black neighborhoods. (10c) If planning a trip to a beach or amusement park at some date, find out whether it is likely to be swamped with blacks on that date (neglect of that one got me the closest I have ever gotten to death by gunshot). (10d) Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks. (10e) If you are at some public event at which the number of blacks suddenly swells, leave as quickly as possible.

And remember, only fifteen days to the Fourth of July, which I called in 2020 Juneteenth For The Historic American Nation.

People on Twitter have been talking about the Civil War and Reconstruction. Northern and Southern whites had reconciled by 1900, and then things got less reconciled during the Sixties, and are almost worse, in some ways, today. Some people have called the Civil Rights Movement a Second Reconstruction, and the Leftist, Trump-hating NATION Magazine (founded in 1865 after the Civil War) has just called (again) for a THIRD Reconstruction.

However, I‘m putting some of the history of the reconciliation of white Americans after the Civil War below the paywall, partly to remind people that I need paid subscriptions, and partly to give something special to the people who have paid to subscribe.

Recently the Justice Department issued a statement saying that the use of “disparate impact” theory in employment law was unconstitutional.

In 1971, the Supreme Court made a ruling in Griggs v. Duke Power Co., 401 US 424, which was about an electric company that had employed blacks as laborers and whites as operators of the complicated machinery at the Dan River Steam Station, which is full of complicated machinery that, if not carefully watched, will explode all over the place…or catch fire.

Because of the Civil Rights Act, they abolished all explicit racial discrimination, and substituted standardized tests. Wikipedia says

On July 2, 1965, the day the Civil Rights Act of 1964 took effect, Duke Power added two employment tests, which would allow employees without high-school diplomas to transfer to higher-paying departments. These two tests were the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test, a test of mechanical aptitude, and the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test, a cognitive ability test created in 1939.

White people were almost ten times more likely than black people to meet these new employment and transfer requirements. According to the 1960 United States census, while 34% of white males in North Carolina had high-school diplomas, only 18% of black males did. The disparities of aptitude tests were far greater; with the cutoffs set at the median for high-school graduates, 58% of white people passed, compared to 6% of black people.^[4]

Which is kind of what you’d expect, given that the average black American has an IQ of 85, and the average white American has an IQ of 100. If you want the scientific evidence for that, it’s here:

There’s a theory that this is caused by racism in the education system (segregation, underfunding and so on) but the theory we’re dealing with here is that the “Black-White Test Score Gap” is caused by the tests itself.

As I've said before, "The message of Griggs and 'disparate impact' theory: if minorities fail tests at a higher rate than whites, it's the test that's wrong."

Blacks (and other non-Asian minorities) didn’t fail the test—the test failed them. This is known as the Standard Social Science Model, in which all races are presumed equal in intelligence.

Google puts it this way:

The Standard Social Science Model (SSSM) is a theoretical framework that dominated 20th-century social sciences, asserting that the human mind is a "blank slate" (tabula rasa) at birth. It posits that human behavior, personality, and differences are shaped almost entirely by culture, socialization, and environment, rather than by biological or genetic factors. [1, 2, 3]

It’s not just IQ—any way in which minorities behave worse than whites (criminal records, dishonorable discharges) is presumed to be a result of racism. For example, I wrote in 2007 that these two stories are part of the same phenomenon:

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas—Some residents of this Dallas suburb that tried to ban apartment rentals to illegal immigrants now want the city to regulate which colorful hues people can paint their homes.

Although the City Council hasn’t decided whether to consider any house paint restrictions, Hispanic leaders say it’s yet another effort to target Latinos in the city.

“I believe controlling the color you paint your house is basically profiling the Hispanic community,” said Elizabeth Villafranca, whose family owns a Mexican restaurant in Farmers Branch. “We all know who paints their homes tropical colors.”

Two residents requested the council discuss mandatory exterior color standards for buildings.

I could prove that a red or pastel house may annoy neighbors even in a community where the people are all white and the houses are all kind of house colored. Or read, as Virginia Postrel suggested, the classic children’s book Mr. Pine’s Purple House.

Nor is the rule against associating with felons uniquely a problem for the black community–if you saw the movie Prince of The City, (based on the real-life experiences of Detective Robert Leuci) you may remember it features a character named Daniel Ciello who’s a policeman, and whose family includes a bunch of crooks. Everyone is Italian, and very white.

But it’s the “disparate impact” theory again, in which any complaint about social pathologies which “happen” to be worse in a minority community must be attributed to racism.

When I wrote that, the late Kathy Shaidle (1964-2021) asked for more examples.

I pointed out that as a legal theory, “disparate impact” gave the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) tremendous power to mess up both civil service and private sector hiring, requiring them to hire ex-convicts and people with incomprehensible accents, because they’re more likely to be members of minority groups.

Politically, there’s felon enfranchisement, seat belt laws,credit ratings, menthol cigarettes, mortgage lending, statehood for the District of Columbia, and the complaint by Haitian-American Councilman Jacques Despinosse, of the City of North Miami, Florida, which is right on the Atlantic Ocean, that is was unfair to ask the City’s police officers to know how to swim:

“North Miami City Councilman Jacques Despinosse created a bit of a stir Tuesday when he asked the police department to rescind its swimming requirement for recruits because it eliminated many black candidates,” the Miami Herald reports. “ ‘We can’t swim,’ said Despinosse, a Haitian American. ‘Most of us didn’t come on the Mayflower. We came on slave ships.’ “[Swimming Requirement Called Unfair, By David Ovalle, Miami Herald , February17, 200]

In April, 2004, the North Miami PD dropped the swimming requirement.

When they did, the Sun-Sentinel printed this little table:

And until 2004, police who could swim well enough to rescue a drowning child—100 percent.

Note that this wasn’t caused by EEOC legal pressure, it was political pressure, based on the second kind of “disparate impact”, where the failings of minorities are used to blame American laws and lawmakers for racism. Here are some examples:

• Felon Enfranchisement—felons can’t vote in many states. Democrats want them to be able to vote. This is disparate because more blacks are felons, color blind in the sense that people don’t want white felons voting.

• Seat Belt Laws—disparate because blacks buckle up less often than whites, so if a state doesn’t have tough seatbelt laws, more blacks get hurt. Not the lawmakers’ fault, and when seatbelt laws are enforced, it’s racial profiling.

• Credit Ratings—insurance companies that set rates based partly on credit ratings are disparately affecting blacks. Do you really think insurance companies want to give white people, or any people at all, a break?

• Slums—the idea that an anti-crowding ordinance trying to prevent 10 unrelated laborers from sharing a two-bedroom apartment “targets families based on their nationality.” Disparate because Americans don’t want to live that way, but Mexicans do.

• Menthol Cigarettes—this one is weird. Black people smoke menthol cigarettes because they like them. A matter of personal taste, like Texans and chicken-fried steak.

  

  That means that the tobacco companies are accused of “marketing to them” and this is bad because “the soothing effect of menthol enables deeper inhaling, menthol cigarettes have a disparate impact on black smokers health.” A lawsuit based on that idea was filed under the Civil Rights Acts of 1866 and 1870. Who the Texans are supposed to sue for chicken-fried steak, I can’t say.

• Statehood for the District of Columbia—Obviously, the federal status of the District comes from the Constitution, but because blacks are the majority of DC’s population, not making them a state is considered racist. I’d merely like to add I distinctly recall that blacks moved to DC in the pre-civil rights era specifically to escape States’ Rights, and that the decline in the white population of the district was caused by black crime.

• Teacher Competence—blacks and Hispanics pass these tests at a lower rate than whites. But people don’t want their kids taught by stupid white teachers either.

• Mortgage Lending—fewer blacks per capita can qualify for mortgages, and this is considered racist. Peter Brimelow pointed out in 1993 that default rates tended to be the same, which means that banks were using color-blind measures of ability to repay (banks want to lend money, but of course, they want it back, too). But in the 2007 presidential primary race, John Edwards was crying “racism” at the idea that blacks pay higher rates on average.

There’s a pattern here—any standard at all that Americans may want to maintain is considered to be racist if minorities, on average, don’t measure up. Broader examples would include

• The whole idea, popular in the 70s, that “law and order” was a “code word” for bigotry.

• The similar idea, twenty or thirty years later, that Giuliani’s war on crime in New York was caused by the same bigotry. But really, the experience of crime in the nineteenth century and later during Prohibition showed that people really didn’t enjoy being robbed and beaten by white criminals.

• The idea, promoted by Hispanic “conservative” Linda Chavez, that “immigration enforcement” is a code word for similar bigotry. But earlier mass immigration of Irish and Italians showed that whites could be just as disruptive. Besides, is America responsible for the fact that it’s Mexico that’s next door to the U.S., or for the fact that the Mexican caste system makes for more Mexican Indians wanting to leave the country?

An exchange between Matt Yglesias and Richard Hanania in 2022 showed that although the Griggs underpins a lot of America’s Affirmative Action regime, left-wing pundit Yglesias had never heard of the thing.

The number of things Yglesias has never heard of is quite large. The Twitter exchange—while Biden was President—did end on this cheerful note:

It turns out that for now, it doesn’t even have to make to the Supreme Court, the Trump Administration can just not enforce it. You can just (not) do things.

The Immigration Act of 1965 abolished the National Origins quotas of the 1924 Act, which had favored European immigrants. As a result, America has had a flood of non-European immigrants…and Europeans were in effect discriminated against for Visas.

In 1990, the late Teddy Kennedy instituted the “Diversity Visa Lottery” with the specific intention of allowing more Irish immigrants to the US.

Since then, it’s been a source of many overly diverse immigrants, some of whom were terrorists or mass murderers. Recently the Trump Administration paused it after a diverse guy from Portugal, Cláudio Manuel Neves Valente, killed two students and wounded nine other students at Brown University.

The 29-year-old man detained after a flatbed truck drove down a popular lower Manhattan bike path, killing at least 8 people and injuring more than a dozen more, has been identified as an Uzbek national living in New Jersey.

In a report like this, the words “Uzbek National” are, in effect, a euphemism for immigrant.

After it transpired that Saipov was an Uzbek immigrant here on the Diversity Visa, the New York Times found an Uzbek Rhodes Scholar (now at Stanford) to do an Op-Ed saying, as Steve Sailer blogged at the time: Why the Zeroth Amendment Obligates USA to Have the Diversity Visa Lottery: “No Person Has a Greater Claim to the American Dream Than Any Other”

The Op-Ed was titled We Need the Diversity Visa Lottery By Machmud Makhmudov November 2, 2017, and I suppose by “we” Mr. Makhmudov means the citizens of the United States.

By the way, the fact that Makhmudov, now an American citizen, got a Rhodes Scholarship, which Cecil Rhodes intended “to promote unity among English-speaking nations” is just one more example of high-skilled immigration displacing a better class of American.

At the time of the Uzbek mass killing, Steve Sailer pointed out that he’d called out the Diversity Visa as long ago as 2002 in an article for UPI:Analysis: The curious immigration lottery, UPI, July 29, 2002.

Oddly enough, the diversity lottery originated as a way to bring more whites to the United States. White ethnic politicians in America felt that their distant relatives in Europe had been squeezed out by chain migration from the Third World. So, natives of the 14 largest sources of legal immigrants -- such as Mexico, India and China -- are banned from participating. In particular, Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., saw a diversity lottery as a way to boost the number of legal Irish immigrants.

[Center for Immigrants Studies head Mark] Krikorian explained, “It was cooked up in the 1986 law to provide a way to amnesty Irish illegal aliens, since the main amnesty in that law primarily benefited Mexicans. In fact, to this day the lottery is often referred to by congressmen and their staff as ‘The Irish Program.’ But as the program evolved, and as there were fewer and fewer Irish illegals, its emphasis changed, and it’s now more accurately described as the Middle Eastern, East European and African program.”

Only 331 visas were awarded to Irish applicants this year.

But the reason Sailer was writing about this crazy visa in 2002 is because of another immigrant atrocity—when Hesham Mohamed Hedayet , below, shot up the El Al counter at Los Angeles International Airport.

The late Sam Francis wrote at the time:

If it’s proof of the sheer, homicidal insanity of American immigration policy you want, consider the case of the late Hesham Mohamed Hadayet, who achieved immortality of a kind when he shot and killed two people at Los Angeles International Airport last week on July 4. Mr. Hedayet may or may not have been a “terrorist,” actually connected to some formal terrorist organization. But he certainly was an immigrant.

Mr. Hedayet, himself shot down by an El Al security guard after he began blasting by-standers at the El Al ticketing area on Independence Day, was in this country legally, through the grace of a program known as 245(i), which is supposed to let in aliens who meet certain work qualifications and which both President Bush and a bipartisan coalition of the Open Borders lobby have been trying to expand. But the only way that Mr. Hedayet was even able to apply for legal status under 245(i) is that his wife won a lottery.

The lottery in question awards a green card, the Immigration and Naturalization Service’s ticket of legal immigration status, on the basis of “diversity” to some 55,000 foreigners every year. Once she got her green card and became legal, then her husband could apply for legal residency himself under 245(i) and stay here if he paid a fine of $1,000.

The New York Times is complaining about the redrawing of formerly black-majority districts in Southern States like Louisiana and Tennessee.

The thing about these districts is that, given the nature of American politics and the tendency of blacks to vote at 90 percent Democratic, these districts don’t necessarily promote black politicians, supposing that to be a worthwhile goal, they are gerrymandered safe seats for Democrats.

In Florida’s 20th District, which is 21 percent white, the Democratic candidate for Representative is former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

As a result, the Washington Post is asking Who should represent a historically Black district?.

The 20th, which includes parts of Broward County, is “historically” black, but not majority black. This is result of mass immigration—more than a third of the people Wasserman Schultz is running to represent were born outside the United States.

The demographic breakdown is

• Black / African American: ~48% to 49%

• Hispanic / Latino: ~24% to 27%

• White: ~18% to 21%

• Asian: ~2% to 3% [1, 2, 3]

The Hispanic population is not only very large, but something like a quarter of the “historically” black population aren’t even “historically” American blacks, according to Data USA:

• Foreign-born: About 36% of the district’s residents are born outside the United States, which is more than double the national average.

• Languages spoken: While English is widely spoken, significant non-English households rely on Spanish (over 21%) and Haitian Creole (approx. 11%). [1]

The Washington Post points out that the District did have a black representative…until she resigned in disgrace after being caught stealing.

The 20th District is nearly half Black and contains several historically Black communities in Broward County. It was drawn to ensure Black Floridians in the area would not have their votes diluted under the Voting Rights Act. Former representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick last held the seat from 2022 until her resignation this year. She stepped down following allegations she stole FEMA funds.

If you’re wondering what kind of a name Cherfilus is, it’s Haitian. Representative Cherfilus-McCormick was born in Brooklyn to two Haitian parents. Her decision to run in the “historically” black Florida district was probably based partly on the Haitian factor.

The man she replaced was Alcee Hastings, 1936–2021, who was a genuinely American black legislator, who before running for Congress had been one of the few Federal judges ever impeached and removed for bribery.

When Hastings died in 2021, I wrote that

Alcee Lamar Hastings, September 5, 1936–April 6, 2021, was the Congressman for Florida’s 20th congressional district. Wikipedia points out [April 2021]that this district “includes most of the majority-black precincts in and around Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach”—that is, it’s the result of a Voting Rights Act gerrymander intended to produce a majority black district.

It also produced voters who don’t care that their Congressman was impeached and convicted, while a Federal Judge (he was a Carter appointee...of course), of soliciting a bribe.

Steve Sailer talked about Voting Rights Act gerrymanders and the politicians produced by them in 2010:

Indeed, the VRA has been terrific for the careers of low-level black and Hispanic politicians. There will be 42 blacks in the House of Representatives, or 9.6 percent of the 435 total.

This included black Republicans Allen West and Tim Scott, elected by overwhelmingly white constituencies, which shows why we no longer need Voting Rights Act gerrymanders.

Nevertheless, forty are Democrats, generally of less than edifying quality: Maxine Waters, Alcee Hastings, Bobby Rush, and the like. (One reason the MainStream Media boosted Obama so shamelessly in 2007–08 is that, for all his shortcomings, he’s a much classier product than the typical black politician of the 21st Century.)

Maybe now that Trump has upset years of the GOP’s and Conservatism, Inc’s losing policies, and the Supreme Court has declared that racial gerrymanders are illegal even if they (theoretically) benefit blacks, the GOP can stop cringing whenever its racial makeup is mentioned.

A post by Wall Street Apes on Twitter with Matt Walsh about the Rosa Parks arrest in Montgomery, AL and subsequent Montgomery Bus Boycott (featuring Martin Luther King) has caused a kerfuffle online.

The text of this is

“The Rosa Parks story you were taught in school was fake too. This was not just some woman on her way home from work. Civil rights leaders thought Parks would make a sympathetic face for their lawsuit and then told her, a longtime NAACP volunteer, to create a situation where she'd be arrested.

This gets sold to the public as totally organic when actually it's playacting to create ideal conditions for a court case or scandal.

The iconic photo of Parks on the bus was staged months after the incident as part of a press campaign. (The photo is shown in the clip)

The white man, sitting behind her in the bus photo was a journalist, which you probably didn't know.”

A women's shelter worker in New York says she was fired for "transphobia" after warning about the obviously dangerous nature of a trans-identified man, recently released into the shelter from a prison sentence for murder The man then murdered and dismembered a woman in Brooklyn.

The story is from 2022: Worker: NYC shelter fired me for warning about transgender serial killer Marceline Harvey By Joe Marino and Jorge Fitz-Gibbon, NY Post, December 5, 2022.

Just now, Harvey Marcellin (his real name) has just been convicted of killing a woman for the third time:

In 1963, a man named Harvey Marcelin killed his girlfriend in a Harlem apartment. He was eligible for the death penalty, which New York still had that year, but was sentenced to 20 to life instead, and actually did 20 before being paroled in 1984 and killing again.

Released again, in 2019, Harvey Marcelin was arrested for killing again, this time with horrifying details; victim dismembered, head found in Harvey’s apartment.

However, at some point after his release from a men’s prison, Harvey Marcelin |became” a woman, and so all reference to his past by the NYT were now her past, as with the Wikipedia entries that say Caitlin, rather than Bruce, Jenner won Olympic Gold in 1976:

An 83-year-old Brooklyn woman convicted twice of killing women she lived with was charged with murder on Thursday, after investigators found a head in her apartment that, officials said, belonged to a body discovered in a shopping cart last week.

Harvey Marcelin, who had served decades in prison for murder and manslaughter before her release in 2019, was arrested March 4 and was initially charged with concealment of human remains.

Ms. Marcelin — who was listed as male in earlier court records but now identifies as a woman, according to a law enforcement official — was indicted on second-degree murder charges on Thursday in the death of Susan Leyden, 68. She is accused of dismembering her and hiding her body parts.

Harvey Marcelin was charged with murder after a head was found in her Brooklyn apartment. Officials said it belonged to a dismembered body discovered in a shopping cart.

Here’s Harvey Marcelin’s record via New York State’s Inmate Locator. You notice Harvey is not only identified as a male, but as a black male.

Harvey doesn’t look really black, but also doesn’t really look like a woman. Harvey might have been a fairly light skinned black, who got paler with age, or may have been wearing a lot of make-up, as Michael Jackson used to.

The victim was Susan Leyden, below, apparently a white woman. (His 1963 and 1984 victims are not named or identified as to race.)

Winston Moseley, the black serial killer who murdered a white girl named Kitty Genovese a year after Harvey Marcelin killed for the first time, never did get released. Possibly the parole board in 1984 had heard about the Harvey Marcelin case. Moseley died in prison in 2016, aged 81.

A 2022 NYT story said

Note that his new name, Marceline Harvey, is used by the NYT, and the authors of this write “Her life was defined by a tormented relationship with women and herself — and a simmering anger.”

He never went through a legal change of name—not easy to do when you’re on parole for murder—nor did he have any surgery. (Reduxx reports him taking a hormone called Premarin in prison—at the expense of State of New York.) He just started calling himself a woman, and the New York Times went with it.

The person before the parole panel in June 2019 was tall and slim, in far better shape than 81 years of life might have suggested. Mild and polite, the supplicant seemed nothing like the murderer who had spent decades in prison, first for shooting a girlfriend dead in 1963, and then for stabbing another in 1985, stuffing her corpse into a bag and leaving it in Central Park.

“I’m no longer that person,” the inmate told the parole board commissioners. Despite misgivings, they would rule in favor of release.

Two and a half years after leaving Cayuga Correctional Facility, Marceline Harvey was accused again, charged with killing Susan Leyden, 68. Parts of Ms. Leyden’s body were found in March inside a shopping cart in East New York, stuffed in a bag. In Ms. Harvey’s apartment, investigators found a bloody mop, a tub full of towels and a box for an electric saw.

It really is too bad that Harvey Marcellin wasn’t executed when he committed his first murder in 1963.

More from the NYT:

The records include several examples of her harassing or attacking women throughout her life. She was accused of attempted rape at 14; the victim was an 8-year-old girl. Ms. Harvey, who by her own account struggled with her mental health, said she had to choke down rage when women challenged her manliness before she transitioned — making fun of her soft voice, for example.

A homeless shelter worker and people close to Ms. Leyden questioned whether, despite her gender identity, Ms. Harvey should have been placed in a homeless shelter for women, given her history of attacking and murdering them. Speaking from Rikers to The New York Post, Ms. Harvey referred to herself as having two personas: one, a violent male named Harvey Marcelin — the name she used for most of her life and is included in court records — and the other, a soft-spoken woman named Marceline Harvey.

Well, they should both have been locked up. The homeless shelter worker is probably a black woman named Monica Archer who was suing over being fired for “transphobia”—after the third murder, from the NY Post story at the top of this article:

An ex-case worker at a Manhattan senior shelter claims she was fired for warning that twice-convicted murderer Marceline Harvey threatened her at the facility — even after the alleged serial killer was charged in the grisly slaying of a former resident.

Now he’s been convicted, and there’s a report in the New York Times that identifies him as a man:

A Brooklyn jury found Harvey Marcelin guilty of the 2022 murder of a woman. He’d been convicted twice before for killing women, starting in the 1960s.

They allowed themselves to use that headline because:

Mr. Marcelin, who was listed as male in earlier court records, identified as a woman at the time of his 2022 arrest. But at the start of his trial last month, Mr. Marcelin told the court that he identifies as a man.

In spite of this, Reduxx reports that

Due to Marcelin’s self-identification as a woman, he was quietly placed in a women’s housing unit at Rikers Island while awaiting trial. For the past four years, Marcelin had been held at the Rose M. Singer Center, but he is currently being held at the Bellevue Hospital Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units, likely due to his failing health and advanced age.

Despite having an erratic “gender identity” that has changed multiple times, Marcelin has been recorded by the New York City Department of Corrections as a “female” inmate.

And for all I know, when they send him back to state prison for this latest murder, they may very well send him to a women’s prison.

But as the mention of Kitty Genovese and Winston Moseley above makes clear, this is not only about transmania, but about the State of New York abandoning both the death penalty and any commitment to criminal justice because of things like disparate impact.

Andy Serkis (who played Gollum in THE LORD OF THE RINGS) has gotten hold of George Orwell’s great anti-Communist fable ANIMAL FARM, and is issuing a bowdlerized anti-Trump, anti-Musk animated version:

According to the USA TODAY story linked above:

When [Orwell]wrote “Animal Farm,” he intended it as an allegory for the Russian Revolution and rise of Stalinism. Barnyard animals overthrow their farmer to build a utopia, but by the end of the novel it has devolved into a corrupt power structure in which “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

Serkis approached the adaptation by asking himself what Orwell would write about if he wrote “Animal Farm” today. He didn’t want it to be a story about Stalinist Russia. Instead, he gravitated toward themes of capitalism, wealth and overconsumption. The billionaire antagonist, Pilkington (Glenn Close), drives what closely resembles a Cybertruck.

The USA TODAY story goes on about Serkis making it lighter and more comical:

Serkis scrubs the story of its violence, at least in any graphic manner. Snowball (Cox), for example, is escorted off the farm rather than chased by hounds and torn to pieces like in the book. Boxer’s (Harrelson) horrific glue factory death is largely implied. It didn’t stop Serkis’ team from giving me a promotional bottle of craft glue with the horse’s face on it, though. I’m not sure how this bit of dark humor will go over with the kiddos.

In fact, Snowball doesn’t die in the book. Snowball (who represents Leon Trotsky ) is chased away Napoleon's [Stalin’s] dogs, resulting in Napoleon [Stalin] “effectively assuming supreme command.”

In real life, on the other hand, Leon Trotsky was assassinated in Mexico in 1940—not torn to pieces by dogs, but killed with an ice axe by a KGB agent.

In 1945, when Orwell was trying to publish Animal Farm, he had difficulty doing it, on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, because the publishing industry was controlled by Stalin’s friends.

Publishing is nominally a capitalist industry, like Hollywood, but both will reject an obvious bestseller if it goes counter to the Narrative.

On January 21, 2015, literary agent Jonny Geller tweeted

How can we not mark George Orwell's death this day in 1950 by recalling Knopf's priceless rejection of Animal Farm?

And added that image:

The text of that says

Stupid and pointless fable in which the animals take over a farm and run it, and their society takes about the course of the Soviet Union as seen by Westbrook Pegler. It all goes to show that a parallel carried out to the last detail is boring and obvious. Even Pegler gets off a few smart lines now and then but this is damn dull. Very very NFK. [Not For Knopf]

The point of this is that Knopf, a major publishing house which had at least one actual Communist editor, Angus Cameron—when a New York Times obituary is headlined “forced out during McCarthy era” (November 23, 2002), that generally means “Communist”—rejected Animal Farm because it reflects “Soviet Union as seen by Westbrook Pegler”.

If you’ve forgotten, or never learned, about Westbrook Pegler, he was the 1940s equivalent of Glenn Beck, an anti-Communist, anti-New Deal syndicated columnist who worked for William Randolph Hearst. And in those days the pro-Communist Left (sometimes they would call themselves anti-anti-Communist) was very powerful.

Slate thought it worthwhile to attack Pegler posthumously in 2004, [Dangerous Minds | William F. Buckley soft-pedals the legacy of journalist Westbrook Pegler in The New Yorker, By Diane McWhorter, March 4, 2004] and it was weird to see how when Sarah Palin quoted something innocuous Pegler said (about growing “good people in our small towns”) Leftists went and dug up hateful quotes Pegler said to attack her with.

The point here: Knopf knew, institutionally, that it was supposed to reject books that challenged the Narrative.

T.S. Eliot, not an actual Communist, also rejected this book in 1944 on behalf of British publishers Faber and Faber, on the principle that Stalin was Britain’s wartime ally:

In a letter from 1944 explaining why he would not be publishing the work, Eliot told Orwell that he was not persuaded by the “Trotskyite” politics which underpin the narrative. To publish such an anti-Russian novel would jar in the contemporary political climate, explained the poet.

“We have no conviction ... that this is the right point of view from which to criticise the political situation at the present time. It is certainly the duty of any publishing firm which pretends to other interests and motives other than mere commercial prosperity to publish books which go against the current of the moment,” wrote Eliot, before going on to say that he was not convinced that “this is the thing that needs saying at the moment.”

Eliot was also rejecting a book that challenged the Narrative, although he had the excuse that the Soviets were technically a wartime ally of Great Britain.

But publishers enforcing the Narrative is very powerful.

Thus in 1995, Jacob Weisberg, reviewing VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow’s Alien Nation in New York magazine, complained that Random House had failed in its duty protect the Narrative:

Not so long ago, the literature of egregious bigotry was treated like pornography. You had to send for it by mail—from backwoods presses that advertised in the classified sections of conservative magazines—or frequent the political equivalent of dirty bookstores. Today, you just walk into any Barnes & Noble. The Free Press set the precedent last fall with Charles Murray and Richard Herrnstein‘s The Bell Curve, which argued that blacks are genetically less intelligent that whites. Now comes Random House with Peter Brimelow’s Alien Nation., another expression of intellectualized white rage that attempts to do for immigrants, and Hispanics in particular, what Murray did for blacks. Odds are it will enrage sensible folk, convince no one, and earn a small fortune. [Links added—the original was on paper.]

Wait: “earn a small fortune”? Don’t publishers like a small fortune?

You wouldn’t believe how many copies of Animal Farm the people who did publish it sold (20 million Signet paperbacks, and that’s just one edition) and both Alien Nation and The Bell Curve were bestsellers.

I noted this when American Renaissance’s Jared Taylor published his 1992 book Paved With Good Intentions as a Kindle book—now the only format in which it is available. (The original publisher regrets having published it and won’t reprint it.)

In the 90s, there was what we at VDARE.com called an “interglacial” period in which many books were published that couldn’t be published today, or previously, for that matter, in the 70s and 80s. Animal Farm shows what couldn’t even be published in the 40s. (They could have been published in the 1920s—in fact, they more or less represented the conventional wisdom. See historical examples like Madison Grant, and Lothrop Stoddard.)

Many of them earned small fortunes, as Weisberg suggested, and they did convince people.

The most recent case is Ann Coulter’s great book Adios, America: The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole, which convinced Donald Trump to run for President in 2015.

The New York Times is being sued by the EEOC for anti-white discrimination in employment, on behalf of one of their white victims.

I saw a Tweet with their defense (which is that it’s politically motivated prosecution by Trump) to which Mollie Hemingway caustically replied:

On a scale of “Kavanaugh smears” to “Russia collusion hoax,” how accurate would you say your response is?

In the meantime, over at New York Magazine, Charlotte Klein reports [The White Man Suing the New York Times for Discriminating Against White Men, archive link] that New York Times reporters are trying to doxx the alleged victim in this discrimination lawsuit, leaking their guess to New York Magazine, where the TimesCorp legal staff can’t scream at them “don’t do that”.

The paper itself was first to break the news of the suit but did not name the employee who made the complaint. Reporters at the paper have been scrambling to figure out the employee’s identity, driven in part by bafflement that one of their own colleagues would sell out the paper to the administration, which has used tools of the federal government to attack the press.

“This has been kind of a shitshow behind the scenes — people trying to figure out who the aggrieved person is,” said another ‘Times’ staffer. The release of the complaint on Tuesday narrowed the speculation to Bryant Rousseau, a senior editor and producer on the ‘Times’’s international desk who has been with the paper for more than a decade.

The New York Times’s discrimination against white males reminds me that in 2003, we had what was known as the Jayson Blair scandal. A young African-American reporter on the New York Times has been found to have lied again and again, without being fired—apparently for reasons of “affirmative action,” compounded by Times Editor Howell Raines’ “white Southern guilt.”

Blair not only made things up, and plagiarized, but he lied about his whereabouts, telling editors he was calling from Virginia and Maryland, when he was still in New York. Part of this was drug use, and the other part was him being over his head as an NYT reporter—a classic affirmative action case.

He eventually wrote a book called Burning Down My Master’s House: My Life at the New York Times, in which he blamed white people. The blurb looked like this:

The reporter who caused a scandal at the New York Times when it was discovered that he had been faking his stories recounts his youth as an African American in the South, his abuse of drugs and alcohol, and their role in his acts.

When he talks about being an African-American in the South, he means a privileged African-American in Fairfax County, VA, according to Jeremy Lott in the then American Spectator Online,

JAYSON BLAIR GREW UP IN FAIRFAX COUNTY, Virginia, in a much more upscale neighborhood than this Fairfax-based reviewer can afford. His father was a bigshot at the Smithsonian and his mother a local schoolteacher. The family was heavily involved in a local church.

In an article in 2003, I called Blair the “Son Of SULLIVAN” recalling the story behind New York Times v. Sullivan, the famous 1964 Supreme Court decision that effectively rewrote libel law for American public figures.

Sullivan has been cited as a prime example of “judicial realism”—the cynical view that judges just make up their minds and then adjust the law to fit their personal vision of how things should be.

In Sullivan, the “Committee to Defend Martin Luther King and the Struggle for Freedom in the South” was sued by a white southern public official, L. B. Sullivan. He contended that he had been defamed by an ad in the New York Times, which became a co-defendant.

Justice William Brennan said in the decision that “It is uncontroverted that some of the statements contained in the two paragraphs were not accurate descriptions of events which occurred in Montgomery.”

Which is to say that the statements weren’t true.

The advertisement was signed by Hollywood stars, and also by several black clergymen in the South (who said that they had not authorized the use of their names.)

But “Judicial Realism” meant that there was simply no darned way that the Supreme Court was going to rule for a white Southern segregationist, and against the Civil Rights Movement. Justice Brennan decreed public figures had to prove “actual malice” , i.e. that the untruths were deliberate. This “Actual Malice Standard,” combined with later decisions that made almost anyone in the news a “public figure”, effectively meant the end of libel protection in the United States.

It effectively gave the Mainstream Media a Constitutional Right To Lie.

This is a good thing for those of us who like to criticize politicians. But it cuts both ways: the SPLC could call VDARE.COM all the names it wanted to, and when VDARE.com tried to sue the NY Times for libel, we failed (due to Sullivan) as did the equally libeled Tulsi Gabbard and Donald J. Trump.

I don’t think that the government should be in the business of enforcing the truth. Blogger Jeff Jarvis viewed with alarm in 2003 the fact that the U.S. Attorney was looking into the Jayson Blair case. (I’m sure it would be possible to call Blair’s conduct “fraud.”) Someone has even suggested suing the Times on a class-action theory.

But was fascinating to see the Times suffering the consequences of affirmative action, a system it has defended, and tried to deny using in this case. (Possibly because affirmative action is illegal.)

And you have to wonder: why is it OK the New York Times to lie but not its employee?

Finally, lest we forget: there’s one young reporter whose name we don’t know, who hasn’t been mentioned in any report of the Blair scandal. That’s the young white reporter Jesse Helms was anticipating in his famous “white hands” ad:

The young white reporter who needed a job, but they “had to give it to a minority. Is that really fair?” as Helms put it.

In 2003, I wrote that the young reporter displaced by Jayson Blair may be better off working on the city desk at the Toledo Blade—or, more probably, outside the media business altogether—than working in New York for the “paper of record.”

But neither that invisible victim—Frederick Lynch’s term for the white males displaced by affirmative action—nor the nation he might have served will ever know.

Thanks to the EEOC, which under Trump is actually interested in prosecuting discrimination against whites, one white male New York Times employee may get justice.
