I’ve had the idea for this Substack for MONTHS, honestly, maybe even pre-engaged, and I’m finally putting pen to paper (aka: fingers to keyboard).

the self-care favorites:

• Lymphatic drainage massages: the best one I’ve ever had was at Sage & Sound in NYC, and I haven't found one in Florida yet. Selfwel in Nashville is amazing, too!

• Brazilian blowouts: this is a recent discovery and quite a game-changer for a woman with naturally wavy & frizzy hair. This is, however, a beauty-is-pain sitch: as the product is blow-dried into your hair, it makes your eyes burn. You’ve been warned! There’s a version that doesn’t do this, but imo, it doesn’t work as well. I’ve tried both.

• STEPS! Since Jan 1, I’ve averaged 10k steps a day, and it’s made a huge difference in my body and mind. Admittedly, I’ve slowed a bit since it’s really hot out now, but I am doing my best to keep it up.

• gold infusion + PRP at Skin Pharm in Nash or Tampa (there are locations in a lot of cities, so check to see if there’s one nearby!)

• The Diamond Glow Facial. A ton of places offer this, but I love The Brightwood and recently discovered the Med Spa near my home offers it as well.

When you plan your own wedding, you have to be organized, which means a comprehensive spreadsheet and a Canva with all inspiration, designs, and vendors detailed so in theory, nothing is left to chance (although things will still go wrong).

Being in the wedding industry myself (albeit a side hustle), I had a pretty strong idea of what I wanted and didn’t want going into this 6-month engagement-to-wedding time period. I didn’t have a full-scale planner or coordinator, but I did have a 90-day coordinator through Mostest, which proved helpful in getting all the vendors there on the day without me really needing to lift a finger. If we want more details about all of that, let me know, but for now I’m going to share my favorite choices and what I’d do differently.

My Favorite Elements:

• The ‘Guest Book’

  • I knew I wanted to do something different in this department, and it seems I may have had a unique idea here, given the virality of my reel highlighting what I did. If you want all the links to what I used, you can find those details here.

• The slider & milkshake bar

  • This was the nightcap that had everyone giddy as our evening came to a close. We got these cute little burger boxes, and I used the J&J monogram I made to create stickers and custom tossware cups for the shakes.

The Evergreen Reminders:

We get to look at several parts of our wedding every day:

• Our photos

  • I was so excited to get photos printed, and when I discovered this company, it felt like the perfect route. Given that they’re frameless and printed directly onto glass, they’ll work in any space for the rest of our lives. I got this gallery, and also this duo of larger prints.

• My bouquet

  • Since it’s silk, it’s currently on our coffee table in a beautiful opaque vessel, and I get to think of our wedding all the time. This is the bouquet I got!

• Our ‘guest book’

  • I had all our napkin notes framed with Framebridge, and it came out so perfect. It’s in the main hallway of our home, and I smile every time I look at it and read a note from a loved one.

What I wouldn’t do again:

• I used beautiful pearl-encrusted invitation jackets within a beautiful velvet envelope, and I (wrongfully) assumed they wouldn’t need to be hand-canceled at the post office since they were still thin. They all arrived at our invitees' mailboxes looking like they'd been through a battle. Whoops.

• I didn’t do a hair trial. Probably should have. I didn’t dislike my hair, but I just don’t think it was the right choice in the Florida humidity/Spring break heat.

I was recently looking for new book recs and decided to export my Goodreads data and upload it to Claude so it could analyze what I’ve read and enjoyed and provide me with relevant suggestions. It suggested the Windy City series, so I would say it’s done a good job thus far (currently on book #2). Doing this, though, I realized that my Goodreads wasn't tracking everything I had read since I started reading again in late 2022, and I suddenly felt desperate to know how many books I had read.

I reopened the same conversation with Claude, informed it of the authors and series I could rattle off the top of my head, and had it generate checklists so I could select all the books I had read, then create a list for me. It took a bit of back-and-forth, and I consulted my Amazon orders and wound up with a beautiful, customized list of everything I had read. Once that was done, I provided what I currently have rented on Kindle Unlimited to be put on a separate tab as my reading wishlist. Below is the output!

It was exported as HTML, so I easily bookmarked it in Google Chrome. Once I check something off my TBR, I let Claude know, and it’ll update my reading list (and I can update the bookmark).

Maybe this was more work than simply updating my Goodreads, but to be honest, my little export is so pretty and makes me happy, lol.

For a few years now, I have been on the hunt for those quintessential French-girl denim. Fit through the waist and hip, but perfectly tailored. One pair that sits right at the ankle and another that is full-length, making them the perfect option for ballet flats or Havianas. I’ve now found both.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I also love a wide leg, a low-slung boyfriend fit, and something a bit more tailored. We’ll go over these as well. Let’s get into it.

The perfect, tapered ankle-length jeans (if you’re 5’6” like me)

I found these on my last trip to NYC, and I will be buying them in every color. These are the classic wash, and I have worn them three times already. True to size. Perfectly higher rise, vintage fit. You can’t see it, but I’m wearing this tank top. I’m obsessed with the texture, and it has adjustable straps.

The effortless French-girl jeans

These were the only pair on the rack in a cute boutique in Los Angeles. They happened to be my size, and I wore them out. That is how perfectly they fit. True to size. Wearing this tank top. Love.

The slouchy, cool-girl jeans

There is something so effortless about a pair of jeans that looks perfectly loose & low-slung. I sized up one to get this vibe, and I’m so happy I did. So chic with a belt of choice and a strappy heel. We’ll go over this later, but rocking this white t-shirt here. Under $50!

The softest wide-leg jeans

Discovered this brand a few months ago and instantly fell in love. High rise, snatched waist & booty, wide-leg. Perfection.

Light-wash, stretchy, straight-leg jeans

I bought these after being served one too many Instagram ads, and I was not disappointed. The wash is perfect, and they’re an ideal work/travel day denim, as they look put together but are easy to sit in for long hours. Sorry, this is the only photo I have of them. Lol. Hotel room fit checks!

As a micro-influencer, I am prone to a lot of beauty gifting, as it’s naturally a lower-cost, lower-value category than clothes, beauty, and handbags, but I’m definitely not complaining. I’ve discovered a ton of beauty favorites this way, and I wanted to share my honest thoughts on every lip product I own & use right now.

Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm: 9.7/10

Starting out strong here, I know. I genuinely think it’s the perfect lip balm/gloss mix. It hydrates without feeling sticky. Once it’s dried down, my lips feel plump and hydrated. Some have shimmer, some do not. It pairs perfectly with a lip liner or stain. No notes. Always in my bag.

Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment: 7-9.2/10

This gets a range because, honestly, it depends on which one you’re using. I think the non-tinted version works best as a hydrating lip product (an 8.9). I love the dark brown-tinted one for color & hydration (I use it often in my regular makeup routine) (the 9.2). I find that any with shimmer clump up and leave a residue on my lips after a while (the 7). These also kind of explode/gush on airplanes if you try to use them in-flight.

The Outset Lip Oasis: 8.5/10

For what it wants to be, it’s gorgeous. It’s a glossy lip treatment with over-time results in as little as 4 weeks. It’s got a higher shine than any of the others on the list, which is amazing if you like a higher shine, glossy look. I personally don’t, so that’s why the rating is a bit lower, but I love how it looks on others. Not sticky, and keeps lips moisturized for a long time without any off-putting taste. Also, it doesn’t handle airplane cabin pressure well.

Dior Lip Oil: 7.5/10

It’s definitely the stickiest of the bunch, but I have used it for years and am so obsessed with it. You either love it or hate it, but I love it so much, especially with a clean-girl makeup look. I use cranberry for that perfect ‘kissed’ color. Do not keep this in a handbag. You’ve been warned!!!

Tatcha Lip Mask: 10/10

I couldn’t live without this, truly. I use it every night. When I go on vacation and forget it, I am lost. I slather on a generous amount every night, and each morning I wake up with the most hydrated, plump lips. My holy grail lip product.

Clairins Lip Perfector: 8.8/10

Classic Parisienne lip product (recommended to me by a friend who literally lives in Paris). Goes on like butter and is more of a gently tinted lip product that happens to be hydrating, versus the other way around. I don’t use it as much, mostly because I have so many options and kind of forget about it. But it’s fantastic.

fresh Sugar Melt Lip Cream: 7.2/10

My newest addition to this group. Goes on really smoothly (silky as they describe it) and without stickiness; however, it’s got the strongest scent of the group with a punchy watermelon fragrance. It’s also slightly tinted, and I love everything about it outside of the scent, which is where it loses points for me. Fantastic otherwise.
