That’s right, we have just debuted our new game, The Dealer, at UK Games Expo a few weeks back. I spent the weekend (in between doing many, many shows) playing it with many, many people, and I can safely say with data - this game rules!

The Dealer is designed by Scott Huntington and Shaun Graham, with additional design by Invisible Typewriter, and incredible art by Carly Berry, with direction from our very own Matt.

The Dealer is set in a space casino, and is a combo of Blackjack and Hanabi, where you’re taking cards to get the best hand you can, choosing to draw or bank each time you a new card. But there’s a twist - everyone can see your cards…except you!

One player is The Dealer, trying to make everyone go bust, everyone else gets a cool power (like The Frenemy, who publicly chooses a player, and secretly decides if they’re friend or enemy, and scores points if they bank or bust that round), and at the end of each round, powers go to the left. Game ends when everyone’s been The Dealer once, so you all get to be every role in play once, to even things out.

You’re trying to get your hand to score between 3 and 5 - anything less than 3, you’re bust. Anything over 5, you’re bust. 3-5, you score that many points. And The Dealer gets points if you go bust, so you can bet your butt they’re going to lie their ass off to get your rump busted. Ass! So don’t trust them! Except maybe they know you’re not going to trust them, so they just tell you the truth…and now you’re cooking, Dealer-style!

It was so fun watching friends and stranger immediately click with the game and start bluffing to each other, revelling in their opponents loading up on cards and going supremely bust, or doing a last-minute bank and squeaking through on a clutch hail mary! The Dealer is all about quick, fun, delicious bluffing, accentuated by fun powers that mix things up.

The fact that everyone plays as every role dealt that game makes it inherently balanced, it’s the perfect game to start or end your games night. We love it, and we’re so proud of it.

But before we get to the shows, we have even MORE exciting news! Invisible Typewriter, our board game company that published our first hit You Know It! (more on that in a tick), is preparing to release our SECOND game, The Dealer, debuting at UKGE!

Here it is! Isn’t it beautiful! The Dealer was designed by Scott Huntington and Shaun Graham (with additional design by us at Invisible Typewriter) and it’s a stone-cold banger.

Set in The Starlight Galactic, the galaxy’s most opulent casino, The Dealer has you playing as alien gamblers with special abilities, trying their best to beat the most nefarious of them all…The Dealer! A mixture of blackjack and bluffing, you’re trying to keep your hand of cards within scoring range, while making sure everyone else goes bust. The twist? Everyone can see your cards…except you!

It’s a super rad game, we’re incredibly excited for you to play it, and I think you’ll agree the art by Carly Berry is absolutely incredible!

We’ve had so much fun playtesting it, putting it through its paces, coming up with new characters and making sure it’s as tightly designed as it can possibly be, and now it’s being printed and will be ready to buy for the first time EVER at the UK Games Expo, taking place Fri 29th to Sunday 31st May, in Birmingham!

We mentioned You Know It!, our rad trivia game that we launched Invisible Typewriter with. What we didn’t mention is that You Know It! has been nominated for, and shortlisted for - an award!

That’s right, the Invisible Typewriter team - me, Viv and Matt - have been nominated for Game Designer Of The Year (Party Games) for our debut title You Know It! We’re incredibly proud of this, particularly as we spend a lot of our time working away in a vacuum, so to get this industry approval - particularly looking at the incredibly rad lineup of nominees - is a real honour. We’ll find out on 23rd June if we won!

Over the years I’ve played all of Supergiant’s games, from Until Dawn to The Quarry via all The Dark Pictures games. And now a new one is finally coming out!

Directive 8020 comes out on 12th May, and on Friday 15th May, I’m gonna be streaming it in its entirety! Blogus is with their granny, Viv is gonna drop in and say hi, and this Brave Boy is going to play through the whole thing until his eyes bleed (which narratively, looks highly possible).

First thing’s first: Clockers Con is back!

Clockers Con 2: The Clock Strikes Back!

We’re doing Clockers Con again! It’s going to be 1st and 2nd Nov, and will be all your YouTube faves playing Clocktower in lovely Theatre Deli in Central London.

Our first Clockers Con was a resounding success, and this one will be even better! The Sat night is a smaller, more intimate event, with 84 tix available. You’ll be guaranteed to play 2 x games, each with a different special guest player and storyteller.

The Sunday is more of a free for all, wander around the lovely space and find games to play! Our cast will be roving, so ask them to come and jump in a game!

Awwww shit this is Clockers: Live’s first show at UKGE, and it’s gonna be a doozy! A big, bad show in the big, bad 400-seater, this is Clockers, Jim, but not as we know it. A modified Teensyville script that we worked on with Steven Medway himself, this is a boiled down, super tight 5-player iteration of BotC that, if I’m being honest, kicks ass. This is the same as the other BotC: Live shows, but I wanted to keep the copy interesting. You’re WELCOME.

Clockers Con is made up of two parts—you can attend either or both:

Saturday evening (6pm-10pm)

A smaller number of tickets (capped at 70 people) and a more curated experience, with a welcome drink included and two games over the evening, each featuring a cast member story telling and one playing with you.

Sunday (10am-10pm)

A larger number (250 players), and a more DIY experience, but with many, many hours of Clockers time and loads of cast members around to say hi to, play a game with and grab a selfie with. We will have cast members storytelling in dedicated rooms, with others roaming and joining in games. If you love to storytell, we encourage you to bring a grim and book games in the app ahead of time.

You can also expect:

• A program of panels and Q&As with interesting topics and guests—these will be filmed, and the ticket price includes online access after the day

• Costume competition!

• A newbie room for early-stage players

• A newbie storyteller room for people who want to gain storytelling skills, with a rules lawyer on hand

If you’ve played any of our family-friendly-escape-room-puzzle-games-in-a-box Mini Mysteries games (now known as History Mysteries, we did a little rebrand, keep up), you might be forgiven for thinking we haven’t released a game in ages.

The background: In November last year we put on what was by far our coolest event EVER, hiring out a massive country house to play Clocktower in all weekend, along with all your faves from YouTube and Twitch.

The theme was Gothic Victorian Christmas and we sang carols, ate a feast together, dressed up in our Christmas finery, watched the best/worst play I’ve ever written (performed by the cast) and of course played countless games of Clockers.

It was, I have to say, a complete blast. So we’re doing it again!

It’s going to be at Voewood, a wonderful country house in Norfolk (where Viv and I were going to have our wedding, before that pesky COVID came along and bade us reorganise), and there are lots of rooms of differing sizes, as well as new addition this year: luxury camping!

We’re teaming up with The Canvas Tribe who do luxury yurts for weddings and festivals, they come with comfy beds, lovely bedding, solar powered phone chargers, all the mod cons, so it gives a bit more space and gives us an extra space to hold a circle for even more Clockers!

It’s going to be so much fun. If you’d like to get your ticket, they go on sale at 10am this Saturday (20th July). We’ve already released pre-sales to those who went last year, so some rooms are booked, but there are plenty still available!

In unbelievably exciting news, I’ve made my very own board game! It’s called You Know It! and it’s launching NEXT WEEK on Kickstarter!

Made along with Viv and our friend Matt, You Know It! is a trivia game with elements of bluffing and social deduction and it’s really good! You get points for correct trivia questions answers, and points for betting on players to know or not know the answers. Most points after 3 rounds wins.

And that’s it! We’ve play-tested it approximately a billion times and it’s somehow still so much fun. It comes with 1000 trivia questions so you can play it loads and it really is a blast betting on your friends and seeing what they know.

BAD NEWS!

We’ve had to cancel our upcoming run of my megagame Bring Them Home. Put simply, we’ve stretched ourselves too thin. These Werewolf shows were booked in after we’d confirmed our run and we’ve got big events on before and after and something had to give.

We’re really sorry to everyone who booked, you should have received an email from about refunds or reassigning your ticket to another event. HOWEVER

We already had the theatre space hired and we wanted to do something less stressful with it that we had the time and the energy to plan, so…

Party Game Party!

We’re not allowed to call it this, because the church that runs the theatre space we’re using doesn’t like the idea of us doing a party (the legal name we’re using is the less fun Party Game Hangout), buuuut we’re doing a chill boardgame hang in a cool underground (literally, it’s in a crypt) space on some of the dates when we would have been doing Bring Them Home!

It’s basically a chance to hang and play party games with me, Viv, and some NRB dorks in a cool space. The plan is to start with a big group game (looking at you, Two Rooms And A Boom) and then split into groups to play fun party games the cast. Think: Coup with Ken, Sushi Go! with Holly, Poetry for Neanderthals with me!! (I’ll win)

BAD NEWS!

We had an incredibly exciting event planned for you in Sheffield in July, which Viv has been working on for MONTHS, and we were just about to launch it when we found out the venue that was going to be hosting most of the shows we had planned has GONE UNDER and will no longer be honouring the bookings made.

So that sucks shit.

We still hope to put it on at some point - the festival is called Side Quest and it will feature your fave NRB dweebs doing their non-board game bits, so shows from Dom, Grubbs, Werewolf, Clocktower, RPG and gaming stuff from all of us. It’s with a pretty heavy heart that we have to cancel it, but without knowing for sure we even have the space we’ve booked, we can’t go forward. Sad times. It’ll be back in some form, don’t you worry. But for now, Side Quest has been sideLINED heyooo. More when we have it.

GOOD NEWS! (kind of)

We’re doing a stream this Weds! Yay! It’s to cheer up our friend Carol! Yay! But it’s because we’ve lost a very lovely friend of ours, which has been really really hard. So we’re doing A Cheer Up Carol Stream on Wednesday night at 7pm!

It’ll involve lots of singing, games, fun nonsense to bring a few smiles at a tough time, so tune into that if you’re free. Promises to be lots of fun. Bring Werthers.
