1. Go to the campaign

Open the website. You will land on the By Blood + By Bone world hub, where you can see what other people have already built before you make anything yourself.

Hit Start Your Engine to enter the campaign.

2. Choose your district

Nova Prime has five districts. Each one produces a visibly different citizen from the same source image, or a different source image, you choose.

You get five free builds, three, then two others you earn. It is one per district if you want the full set.

3. Upload your image

Drop in a JPG or PNG. Your face, your dog, your baby picture.

4. Hit IGNITE

Your image goes through processing.

5. Get your card

Your citizen card renders with your own citizen number.

The card lands in two places at once: your Garage, where you collect all your builds, and the public wall, which is live from your first build and visible to anyone.

You have two builds left, plus two more. Same image, different image, as you wish, different district, different citizen. Register in all five to complete your file.

The border opens September 1. It closes September 3.

That is not a metaphor.

His practice was to model in clay. Around him, highly trained practitioners, plaster casters, carvers, bronze foundry specialists and studio assistants translated those models into other materials and other scales. A practitioner could use a plaster model, a pointing system and Rodin’s markings to carry the form into marble under his direction.¹²

And the marble was still Rodin.

That fact unsettles a belief we still carry: that authorship resides in the hand that physically makes the object.

But if Rodin’s chisel never carved the stone, where did the work begin?

It began with seeing.

Before there was marble, there was an image held in the mind of an artist: a body turning, a shoulder carrying weight, flesh appearing to emerge from stone. Rodin’s authorship did not reside in performing every physical action required to produce the sculpture. It resided in the vision, the decisions, the corrections, the refusal, and the recognition of when the work had become itself.

That does not diminish the practitioners who carved it. Their skill was real, interpretive and essential. Their skill did not negate Rodin’s authorship, and Rodin’s authorship did not negate theirs.

The atelier held both truths at once: many hands could participate in making while one vision gave the work its coherence.

Rodin was not an exception.

Rubens established a large workshop in Antwerp. His drawings and oil sketches could carry the design of a composition into paintings executed with the participation of assistants.³ The boundary between Rembrandt and his workshop became so complex that generations of scholars have continued to reconsider which paintings belong to the master, his pupils or the studio around him.⁴ Bernini designed sculptural and architectural visions whose execution often involved assistants.⁵ Warhol made the system explicit: the Factory brought artists, poets, filmmakers, musicians, technicians and assistants into an environment built around experimentation, collaboration and serial production.⁶

The image of the solitary genius is powerful.

It is also incomplete.

Much of the art we have inherited was created through ateliers, workshops, foundries, studios and houses in which vision moved through many minds and many hands.

The camera never imagined a photograph.

The piano never intended a symphony.

The brush never saw a painting.

Neither does AI.

Tools do not originate the human need to make meaning. They give form to it. Creativity does not begin when the image arrives. It begins earlier, in perception: in a human being seeing something that does not yet exist, or seeing what already exists in a way no one else has seen it before.

This is the distinction we keep losing in the argument about artificial intelligence.

We confuse making with imagining. We confuse generation with vision.

We look at the speed with which an artifact can now appear and assume that the speed produced the idea. It did not.

The image is the visible surface of a much longer human process.

Behind it are years of looking, loving, losing, remembering, studying, desiring, failing and becoming. There are films absorbed in childhood, places that no longer exist, private griefs, inherited mythologies, moral convictions, sensual memories and obsessions that will not release their hold.

These do not enter the work as data points.

They enter as a lens. That lens is the artist.

Until now, human beings could imagine far more than they had the means to make visible.

That gap has shaped the history of art.

Imagination might be limitless, but its material expression was not. A vision could require marble, pigments, apprentices, foundries, orchestras, stages, cameras, laboratories, crews, capital, distribution and permission. It could require proximity to a patron, a court, a studio system or an institution willing to grant access to the machinery of creation.

The master atelier was therefore more than a production system.

It was imaginative infrastructure.

It allowed an interior vision to exceed the physical capacity of one body. Rodin could conceive at a scale that depended upon modelers, mold makers, bronze foundry specialists, carvers and enlargers because he had built a structure through which his imagination could travel.

The privilege was not simply having people to perform labor.

It was having a world capable of answering an idea.

Cinema has always depended upon such structures.

George Lucas did not personally fabricate every miniature, engineer every camera system, paint every matte or animate every creature in Star Wars. When he found that no existing effects company could achieve what he wanted for the film, he created Industrial Light & Magic and assembled a group specifically to make that vision possible.⁷

ILM became a modern atelier: not a substitute for imagination, but an apparatus built because imagination had outrun the available tools.

AI changes this relationship.

It gives imagination an atelier.

That is the leap.

It is not merely that AI can make production faster or less expensive, although it may do both. Production is downstream from the deeper transformation.

The artist no longer has to hold the entire unmade world in suspension while waiting for the money, the crew, the studio, the technical training or the permission to begin seeing it in form.

For generations, we have spoken aspirationally about being limited by nothing but our imagination.

For most people, it was never true.

I’ve written about this extensively in earlier articles, for instance:

They were limited by the cost of materials. By the years required to master a particular instrument. By geography, disability, education, class, time, gatekeepers and access to specialized collaborators. A person could see a sculpture vividly and still be unable to carve marble. A person could hear a score and have no ability to orchestrate it. A filmmaker could carry a civilization in her mind and have no practical way to place it before an audience.

The vision was not absent.

The route from vision to form was.

AI begins to change that. Not absolutely: rights, resources, material realities and the limits of the technology still matter. But the historic distance between imagining and making visible is narrowing.

For the first time, being limited by nothing but our imagination begins to describe a practical creative horizon rather than a fantasy.

This does not mean that skill disappears. Skill relocates.

The trained hand remains extraordinary. The great cinematographer, actor, composer, designer, sculptor, animator and craftsperson bring human intelligence, history and interpretation that cannot be reduced to mechanical execution. Collaboration remains one of the great generative forces in art.

AI does not remove skill. It removes technical skill as the only gate through which imagination must pass.

The person who sees a sculpture but cannot carve marble may finally begin to show us the sculpture. The person who hears a world but cannot orchestrate it may begin to let us hear it. The filmmaker who sees a city, a creature or an entire civilization but cannot command a hundred-million-dollar production may begin to bring that world into view.

AI does not make imagination unnecessary. It makes technical execution less capable of imprisoning it.

That distinction may also explain one current beneath the anxiety surrounding these tools.

When execution was difficult and access was scarce, technical virtuosity could be mistaken for imagination because the two often arrived bundled together. The difficulty of making conferred authority on the artifact. Control of the machinery could be confused with possession of the vision.

AI begins to pull those things apart.

That is not an argument against virtuosity. Great craft is not sleight of hand; it is knowledge made physical, and it deserves admiration. Nor does it erase the urgent questions surrounding labor, consent, copyright, provenance, attribution and compensation.

But once the mechanics of producing an impressive surface become widely accessible, technique alone can no longer guarantee meaning.

The question moves closer to its origin:

What do you see?

What is inside you that did not exist before you imagined it?

What can you perceive that another person, carrying another life, would never perceive in quite the same way?

When the mechanics recede, the imagination is exposed.

And the first image is rarely the work.

Artistic vision is not always a completed blueprint delivered intact from the mind. Sometimes the artist sees clearly from the beginning. Just as often, the artist discovers the work by making it.

A line reveals the next line.

An actor changes the meaning of a scene.

A piece of music exposes the emotion the filmmaker had not yet named.

Clay resists the sculptor’s first intention and offers another.

AI enters that ancient creative loop.

The artist externalizes a fragment of the vision. Something appears. It is wrong. It is generic. It is too beautiful, too literal, too empty, too familiar.

Or amid everything that fails, there is a gesture, a shadow, a strange relationship of scale that suddenly opens the work.

The artist recognizes it. That recognition is not passive.

It is authorship.

The artist knows that the unexpected thing belongs, understands what it changes and follows it into the next decision. The imagination does not merely command the tool. It thinks through the encounter with what the tool returns.

AI does not replace imagination.

It allows imagination to become visible to itself.

This is why the abundance of generated images does not prove that imagination has become abundant.

Generation can produce an artifact without a compelling reason for that artifact to exist. We can already see the result: images that are polished but interchangeable, technically plausible but emotionally vacant, assembled from familiar signs without a point of view behind them.

That flood is not evidence that the artist has disappeared.

It is evidence that making and seeing were never the same faculty.

When the mechanics of making become more widely accessible, vision becomes more visible, not less.

Taste becomes visible. Judgment becomes visible.

The difference between choosing an attractive image and constructing a meaningful one becomes visible.

The scarce thing is no longer access to the first artifact. It is the capacity to know what the work is, what it is not and why it must exist. This has always been the differentiator between everyone can create and the artist.

The model can generate possibilities.

The artist creates necessity and meaning.

It can give those things surfaces. It can offer materials through which they may be expressed. It can surprise you, provoke you and expand the field in which you search.

But meaning does not reside in the mere arrival of an image.

This is why the future of AI and art should not be framed only through fear, replacement or efficiency.

Something joyful is happening.

There are people carrying films they could never have financed, worlds they could never have constructed, creatures they could never have animated, performances they could never have staged and images they lacked the conventional training to render.

Their imaginations were not deficient. Their access was.

There are stories we have never encountered because their authors never acquired the resources, education, institutional approval or command of every technical discipline required to make those stories visible. The loss is not only personal. Culture has been deprived of worlds it never knew were waiting.

Now some of those worlds can reach the surface.

Their makers can move through image, sound, language, space and time with a responsive creative apparatus beside them. They can experiment before an institution validates the experiment. They can develop a visual language before anyone grants them a budget. They can discover whether the thing haunting them can become a story, a character, a universe, a work of art.

This does not make every person a master.

Access to marble would not have made everyone Rodin. A piano in every home did not make everyone Mozart, or his sister. The power of a tool does not guarantee the power of the vision behind it.

But it allows the vision to try.

That is not a small thing.

How much human imagination has disappeared because the person carrying it could not draw, carve, compose, animate, finance or persuade an institution to believe in what only they could see?

We cannot know.

What we can know is that more of it now has a chance to become visible.

The atelier, once available to the artist who could command a workshop, a foundry, a factory or a film studio, is becoming available to imagination itself.

Not as an obedient army of invisible hands, and not as a replacement for the human collaborators whose intelligence and artistry make ambitious work possible, but as a new layer of creative infrastructure: immediate, iterative and capable of meeting an idea before the world has decided whether that idea deserves to exist.

Rodin’s marble teaches us that the hand performing the final act was never the whole story. Rubens’s workshop, Bernini’s studio, Warhol’s Factory and Lucas’s ILM tell us the same thing across centuries and mediums.

Now that structure can begin with one person looking into a screen and seeing, perhaps for the first time, a world that until that moment existed only inside them.

As the mechanics of making recede, something else comes sharply into view.

Imagination.

Technical mastery can create a remarkable surface. It can produce polish, fluency, spectacle and control. That mastery is real; great craft is not fraudulent, and it remains worthy of admiration.

That is what will separate the endless volume of generated artifacts from art.

Not complexity. Not speed. Not finish. Not the appearance of skill.

Imagination.

Some work will be exposed as having had little behind its technique. Other work will reveal minds and worlds that never before possessed the means to reach us.

That distinction may be unsettling, but it is also clarifying. The tool cannot provide the thing that matters most.

Imagination is where art begins, and what finally distinguishes it.

I do. I came up through that lineage. And the conviction running through every part of it is the same simple thing: give people the IP components, and trust them with the work.

Now, Leviticus proves that instinct is alive in cinema.

Adrian Chiarella’s upcoming queer horror film took the unusual step of releasing an official “scene pack” before theatrical release. Instead of forcing fans to wait for trailers, cam rips, or post-streaming screen grabs, the film handed over curated footage, atmospheric shots, charged moments between the leads, landscape material, a trailer stripped of text and music. The message was simple: edit your heart out. Go nuts. Make the fancams, the reels, the compilations, the little internet artifacts that turn a film into an emotional object people want to share.

It’s a beautiful thing. It looks like clever marketing, and it is. But it’s also something deeper: a studio recognizing that fandom is no longer downstream of release. Fandom is part of the release architecture.

The scene pack is the film equivalent of stems. Here are the fragments. Here is the emotional language. Now show us what you feel. And it matters, because fan edits aren’t random internet noise. They’re emotional distribution, micro-trailers made by the people closest to the signal, who often understand the chemistry, longing, and subtext of a story faster than any marketing department can package it. Especially for queer stories, genre stories, and identity-driven work, the fan edit is frequently where the audience first recognizes itself.

But here is the turn.

An instinct is not an infrastructure. A folder of clips is not a system.

And right now the rest of the industry is walking, deal by deal, and check by check, toward the exact architecture we’ve already built and are shipping in beta.

Invitation is not infrastructure

I love fan fiction. I’ve been subject of it with my character, Julia Walker, in Poltergeist: The Legacy. This is a wonderful use of UGC - a scene pack gives fans permission to play, informally. A folder of clips. A friendly note. But, then what? Who made what, from which source? What rights attach to the edit? Can the studio find and surface the best work? Can the editor be credited, rewarded, licensed, invited deeper? Can the fan work become part of an ongoing IP graph instead of vanishing into a feed? Can authorship integrity, canon, and rights boundaries be respected without suffocating the very energy that made the fan work valuable?

A scene pack can’t answer any of that. It was never built to.

That’s the gap enGEN3 closes. Not as a concept, but as a system, in beta, built on five principles I’ve been operationalizing since long before the industry started reaching for them. Provenance. Protections. Permissions. Participation. Persistence.

Here is what each one actually does, and what’s already running:

And this is not happening in isolation. In the last few months alone: Disney publicly moved to put 200-plus Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters inside OpenAI’s Sora, a three-year licensing arrangement backed by a signaled billion-dollar stake, before the whole thing collapsed this spring when OpenAI abruptly shut Sora down. Warner Music Group settled its litigation with Suno and moved toward licensed AI music models with artist opt-ins for name, image, likeness, and voice. And just last week Hasbro launched Sixth Wall, an AI studio built on a proprietary system, CharacterOS, that preserves a character’s personality, canon, voice, and safety guardrails across interactive experiences, with a talent participation model that compensates performers.

Read that last one again. Personality. Canon. Voice. Guardrails. Talent participation. That is the language of the five Ps, arriving as a Hasbro press release.

Different companies. Different categories. Same direction. These are some of the most sophisticated IP holders on earth, and they are all converging on the same conclusion I built enGEN3 around: participation has to be authorized, protected, and persistent. When Disney, Warner, and Hasbro all publicly move toward the same architecture inside a single season, the thesis is no longer theoretical. It is the direction of the industry.

I’m grateful for that, genuinely. Every one of these deals makes the case easier to make.

But notice the shape of them. Disney’s characters were headed inside Sora. Hasbro’s characters inside CharacterOS. Warner’s music, voices, likeness rights, and compositions moving into Suno’s licensed-model framework. Each is a single catalog licensed into a single tool, one company’s IP, one company’s platform. They are powerful vertical answers to what is fundamentally a horizontal problem.

And Disney’s experience shows exactly how fragile that shape is. When OpenAI killed the Sora app, that specific participatory play vanished with it, overnight, reportedly with under an hour’s warning, no money ever having changed hands. Tie your fans’ access to your world to one vendor’s product roadmap, and you inherit that vendor’s mortality. That is not a knock on Disney. It is the structural risk of building participation as a deal instead of as infrastructure.

That's the layer enGEN3 occupies. Not a deal between one rights holder and one platform, but the operating system underneath, the full stack, all five Ps, IP-agnostic by design. It works across the whole landscape of entertainment and media: film, games, music, art, brands, advertising, public figures and their likeness and voice, at every scale. The billion-dollar players and the independent creator alike. And it doesn't disappear because someone else sunset an app.

Because here’s the part I keep coming back to. Disney signaled a willingness to put a billion-dollar stake behind this direction. Warner settled litigation and moved toward licensed models. Hasbro stood up an entire new studio. That’s what it took the giants to reach for this future, and in Disney’s case, the reach didn’t even close. We reached the same future bootstrapped, built by filmmakers, in beta now, and built for all of it: the giants and everyone they can't reach, across every form entertainment takes, and durable enough to outlast any single platform.

The walls are not coming down. They are being rebuilt.

For decades the business treated fans as an audience to capture, market to, and monetize after the fact. But the internet changed the shape of culture. Fans don’t wait politely at the edge of the story anymore. They clip, remix, subtitle, meme, theorize, ship, translate, archive, and circulate. We call it Fan Fiction on Steriods. They create the emotional metadata around the work.

The old system called that infringement, nuisance, or free marketing, depending on whether it felt threatened or flattered. The new system has to call it what it is: value creation.

That doesn’t mean open season on IP. It doesn’t mean chaos or stripping authors of control. The opposite. The more participatory entertainment becomes, the more provenance, authorship, and guardrails matter.

Participation without protection becomes exploitation. Protection without participation becomes stagnation.

The opportunity is the middle path, authorized participation, where fans are invited into the creative economy with clear boundaries, creator control, rights transparency, and durable recognition. That is the entire thesis I’ve been building through the Film3™ brand and business model, and it’s the exact thing enGEN3 was engineered to run.

The Film3™ model was never just about new tools. As the flagship brand of The Squad, it’s a new business model for how IP gets created, financed, expanded, marketed, distributed, and monetized. Creator-led ecosystems where the community is part of the architecture, not an afterthought. Participation with ownership logic, licensing logic, and protection logic built in from the beginning.

Nine Inch Nails gave fans the tracks. Radiohead gave fans the stems. Leviticus gives fans the scene pack. enGEN3 gives the industry the system, and it’s running now.

Hollywood is learning to invite participation. But invitation is only the first step. The next step is infrastructure: a place where the source is registered, the rules are embedded, the permissions travel with the asset, the creators are protected, the fans are credited, and the work persists beyond the scroll.

Because the future of IP isn’t watch, like, share.

The industry is walking directly toward the future I named, and I couldn’t be happier to have the company. The difference is only this: we didn’t wait for permission or a war chest to build it. We came up through a lineage that never did, the multitrack, the stem, the DV camera, the conviction that you give people the components and trust them with the work. The full stack, all five Ps, is in beta now. We saw this future early, and we built it to be open to everyone.

The giants are proving the thesis. enGEN3 is the answer.

The animator behind The Book of Life and Maya and the Three, a filmmaker with decades of work, a genuine creative voice, and real industry standing, pulled out of an Amazon animated series after receiving death threats. His family was targeted. The pile-on was coordinated and relentless. And when he stepped back, parts of the internet called it a victory.

Let me be direct: it was not a victory. It was a purge.

What Actually Happened

Amazon had launched an initiative to fund creators using AI to produce animated series, a program built across AWS, MGM Studios, and Prime Video. Jorge was one of the creators involved. The project, Punky Duck, would have employed writers, animators, composers, editors, producers. Real jobs. Real work.

The technology made it possible. The harassment made it stop.

And the people who did the harassing, who sent the threats, coordinated the shaming, and celebrated when Jorge walked, they are calling themselves advocates for artists.

They are not.

Gatekeeping With a Progressive Costume

There is a particular kind of dishonesty at work when people destroy opportunities in the name of protecting them. The jobs that would have existed on that production are gone. The artists who would have been employed are not employed. The work that would have been made will not be made.

What was accomplished? A talented person was bullied into silence. That is the whole of it.

This is gatekeeping. It has always been gatekeeping. The entertainment industry has spent a century perfecting the art of keeping people out, through access, through capital, through networks, through the quiet consensus of who gets to call themselves a real filmmaker. What’s new is the packaging. The language has shifted from “we don’t think you’re ready” to “we are protecting the craft.” The mechanism is the same.

Less than 0.3% of pitches ever get developed. Less than one in fifty developed projects gets greenlit. Most shows that do get made never reach air. A single season of an animated series can take two to four years to produce and require agents, managers, lawyers, production companies, studios, and networks all saying yes at the same time. That is the traditional pipeline the critics are defending. That is the narrow door they want artists to use.

AI opened a different door. And the response was to threaten anyone who walked through it.

The Barrier Was the Product

Here is the part nobody wants to say plainly. People are not mainly angry that AI takes away entry-level jobs. They are angry that the path of least agency, the long, gatekept, permission-based climb, is no longer the only path. Creative people with high agency are not the ones panicking. AI gives them more options, not fewer. The panic comes from a different place.

One working artist put it about as honestly as it can be put. His objection to AI, in his own words: there is no barrier to entry. Your aunt in New Jersey can now learn to do what you learned to do. The kid up the street can do what your aunt can do. And if everybody is an artist, he concluded, then nobody is.

Read that again, because it is the whole argument laid bare. The complaint is not that the work is bad. The complaint is that other people can now make it. The barrier was never protecting quality. The barrier was the product, the thing that kept the competition out and the prices up.

Barriers make sense for surgeons. They do not make sense for painters. Telling people they cannot make art unless they cleared the right gates is the same logic that says outsider art should not exist, that you should not pick up a brush if you did not go to the right school. It has never been about protecting art. It has been about protecting a kingdom.

And the honest version of the counter-argument is simple: more people with access to tools that let them build their ideas is good. Yes, it means more noise. Of course it does, every democratized medium begins with noise before it finds its voice. But if you cannot distinguish your work from a sea of slop, that is not an argument against the tools. That is a skill problem. The artists who are actually good are not afraid of more people being able to try.

Tools Are Not Ideology

Every generation of artists internalizes the standards of its moment and then experiences those standards as self-evidently correct rather than historically contingent. Cinema should be shot on film. Animation should be done with particular software. Good stories follow a three-act structure. These were choices made by particular people in particular circumstances. They became conventions. The conventions became doctrine. The doctrine became, in the minds of some, a kind of natural law.

Picture this scene running 150 years ago:

This is satire. But it is not far off.

In 1874, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Pissarro, and Sisley exhibited independently of the Paris Salon, the official institution that decided what counted as real art. The critics were vicious. The work was called unfinished, unserious, an affront to the standards that had served painters for generations. The very name Impressionism started as an insult.

We would have lost Impressionism to a pile-on. We would have called it a victory for real art. And we would have been wrong in exactly the way the people cheering Jorge’s exit are wrong now.

And here is the tell about who actually panics. This week, Martin Scorsese, the living embodiment of cinema as high art, the conscience the purists invoke when they want to define real filmmaking, backed an AI image-generation company and described using the technology in preproduction on a new film. He was careful and specific about it: he used it for storyboarding, to share what he sees in his head with his cast and crew more clearly. Not to replace anyone. To communicate. He said:

“I'm interested in the intersection of technology and storytelling, and seeing how that can push the bounds of creativity to create deeper and richer experiences for audiences"

“Remember, cinema is a young medium, only around 125 years old, so we have to be open to how it can evolve.”

“Now with this tool, I can share what I’m visualizing more clearly and efficiently to my creative team, the production designer, art designer and cinematographer.”

Sit with that. The most revered living defender of the craft is not afraid of the tool. He is curious about it, and disciplined about how he uses it. The people sending death threats are not protecting Scorsese’s art. They are protecting a story about art that Scorsese himself does not believe.

It is not natural law. It is accumulated tradition. Opinions are not facts, and tools are not moral positions.

A hammer does not carry the ethics of what it builds. A camera does not carry the ethics of what it photographs. AI tools do not carry the ethics of how they are used. Those questions, of attribution, of provenance, of who gets paid and for what, are governance questions. They are solvable problems. They are being worked on. But they are separate from the question of whether a creator has the right to use a tool to make something they could not otherwise make.

Jorge Gutierrez was using AI to tell a story. A story that, by every honest assessment of the traditional pipeline, would not have been greenlit any other way. He was expanding what was possible for himself and for his audience.

The people who drove him out were not protecting artists. They were protecting a system that has never been particularly interested in protecting artists either.

The Human Imagination Is Not Under Threat — It Is Being Tapped

I want to say something that gets lost in this conversation: the work coming out of artists using these tools is genuinely human work. The imagination driving it is human imagination. The stories being told are human stories. The tools are faster, more accessible, less gatekept, but the source of what matters in any of it is still the person behind it.

I have been building in this space since before it had the name most people use for it now. I have had the vile comments. I know what it costs to stay public about this work. The vitriol is getting worse not because the work is getting worse, it is getting worse because the argument that this is all slop is running out of road. The work is getting undeniably good. And when people are cornered by reality, they do not always respond with grace.

I understand the fear. Twenty years of building a craft and watching the ground shift underneath it, that is real, and it deserves a real conversation. But threatening artists, canceling shows, and keyboard-bullying creators into silence is not a response to that fear. It is a displacement of it onto people who did nothing wrong.

What the Right Response Looks Like

You can disagree with AI. You can criticize it publicly. You can refuse to use it in your own work. All of that is legitimate.

What is not legitimate is threatening someone’s family because they made a different choice.

The technology is not going away. The studios investing in it are not going away. The appetite for new stories, new voices, and new ways of making them is not going away. The only thing that changes when you drive someone like Jorge out of a project is that one fewer voice is in the room, one fewer person bringing decades of craft and perspective to what this technology becomes.

That is a loss. Not a win.

The conversation about what ethical AI use looks like in creative industries, about attribution, about compensation, about labor, is one worth having. It is an important conversation. But it cannot happen when the loudest voices in the room are making death threats. And it will not be advanced by people who would rather burn the project down than be part of shaping what it becomes.

Jorge Gutierrez should not have had to quit. And the artists who are still in the room, still building, still creating, still using every tool available to them to tell the stories they need to tell, they should not back down either.

The disrupters take the most arrows. That has always been true. It does not mean the arrows are deserved, and it does not mean you have to stop.

The first: Disney, through Josh D’Amaro and the “One Disney” framing, is publicly acknowledging that the future value of entertainment is no longer just content. It’s persistent fan ecosystems, Disney+ as a lifestyle portal, gaming integration, AI-powered storytelling, monetizing relationships rather than transactions.

The second: builders across AI and infrastructure are recognizing that AI breaks the old assumptions around rights, remix culture, and IP monetization. The constraint set, portable rights, on-chain provenance, automated licensing, programmable revenue participation, is shifting, and that shift is unlocking latent consumer behavior the industry has spent years pretending didn’t exist.

The third, and this is the signal almost no one is articulating clearly:

That’s the layer enGEN3 was built for.

The Architecture Itself Is Changing

Disney still operates primarily through franchises radiating outward from centralized ownership. Studio → Audience. The rights conversations happening across the industry modernize the licensing layer around that same architecture: making fan-created content legal, trackable, profitable.

Both are recognizing the pressure. Neither fully addresses the architectural shift underneath it.

The architecture is the question.

Traditional entertainment was Studio → Audience. Web2 creator platforms became Creator → Audience → Platform Monetization. What’s emerging now is IP Owner ↔ Community ↔ AI Systems ↔ Participatory Creation ↔ Shared Value Layer.

That last one isn’t a content business. It’s an operating system.

Once you see the architecture, you see why the conversations about distribution, monetization, and even fan licensing are downstream of the actual question.

The Remix Economy Is a Subset of the Participatory Economy

The behavior is already here. Fans remix. They clip, cosplay, roleplay, fan-cast, create lore, build communities, generate memes, produce fan films, generate AI-derivative media, build games inside existing worlds, construct social identity around IP they love. But, the infrastructure hasn’t existed.

Most of what’s being built right now treats this as a remix problem, how to make derivative creation legal, attributable, and profitable. That solves a real slice. But remix is one behavioral expression of a much larger transition: the participatory economy.

The participatory economy includes remix. It also includes governance, attribution, canon stewardship, persistent engagement, programmable rights, AI-assisted co-creation, and lifecycle management of IP, across both emerging and established intellectual property. Across films, TV, books, brands, games, music, public figures, sports, franchises, consumer products, virtual identities, legacy studios, creator-led IP, and AI-generated universes.

That is the category enGEN3 was built for.

Why Now

This transition isn’t theoretical, and it isn’t ahead. It’s already underway.

AI has collapsed the cost of creation to near zero. Consumer-grade generative tools put production capability in the hands of anyone with a phone. Persistent digital identity is mainstream. Disney is still approaching it from a centralized franchise mentality: IP expands outward from the studio.

enGEN3 approaches it as programmable participatory infrastructure: IP evolves through governed participation.

Those are fundamentally different futures. And the shift D’Amaro is now naming is the same shift that’s been driving the Film3™ brand’s business model since 2022, and that enGEN3 was built to scale.

The industry keeps describing AI as a production tool, faster, cheaper content. That misses the structural shift.

When creation scarcity disappears, the constraints move. Suddenly the questions become:

In the last week alone, Sandra Bullock said;

while also warning that people will use it “for evil and not good.”

Reese Witherspoon wrote;

Steven Soderbergh put it just as plainly:

That is not noise. That is signal.

These are not marginal technologists on the edges of culture. These are established figures at the center of it. They are not all saying the exact same thing, but they are all acknowledging the same reality: refusal is not a strategy anymore. Engagement is. The debate has moved from whether AI is coming to what kind of role it will play, who will shape that role, and who will be left reacting to terms written by someone else.

And this is where I align strongly with James Cameron. Cameron’s view is not a simplistic “pro-AI” take. It is a governance position. He argued that the legal and creative focus should be on the output, not the input. In his words, “You can’t control my input,” because creators absorb influences from everywhere throughout their lives. What matters is whether the final work is “too close, too plagiaristic.” That distinction is critical, because it moves the discussion away from panic and toward the real question: how do we judge originality, authorship, and lawful use in an age of machine-assisted creation?

Christopher Nolan strengthens that case from a different angle. Nolan said that “any tool, whether AI-generated, whether it’s computer-based or whatever, it’s all another tool for filmmakers to create with,” so long as we retain faith in the human beings using those tools. That matters because Nolan is not speaking as a techno-utopian. He is speaking as a filmmaker obsessed with texture, realism, and the irreducible complexity of the real world. Even his skepticism is useful: he has argued that digital systems eventually hit limits because reality itself is infinitely complex. That supports a view I share deeply: AI does not replace art. It joins the long line of technologies artists use selectively, intentionally, and under human direction.

That is also why this moment is bigger than the tool itself. The harder question is not just whether AI can make something. The harder question is who controls it, who benefits from it, and what kind of system sits around it. I wrote recently about the Ben Affleck/Netflix move in exactly those terms, because that deal is not just a story about AI adoption. It is a story about control, specifically the control that comes from owning an exclusive. Netflix acquired Affleck’s InterPositive, an AI filmmaking-tech company, on terms that give Netflix the edge and leave every other studio racing to develop or acquire their own. That is not a tooling story. That is a gatekeeping story. Whoever locks up the AI infrastructure of the next era controls who gets to use it, on what terms, and at what cost. The creators and the audiences sit at the end of that chain, taking whatever terms the gatekeepers decide to offer.

And while all of this is happening on the creative side, the financing logic is shifting too. The piece on A24, MUBI, and IPR.VC says what many people in film still do not want to fully admit: entertainment financing is moving away from backing discrete assets — a film, a series — and toward continuous IP systems that build audience, engagement, and monetization across multiple formats. Money is going to whoever owns an idea with an audience, along with multiple ways to make money from it. The language investors are now using is specific: portfolios, audience relationships, repeatable ways of creating IP that stays culturally relevant. Brand systems built for depth, resonance, and longevity with a specific audience. Audience value that compounds and can be extended. Audience and attention built earlier across platforms and formats. Monetization that is layered and continuous rather than tied to a single release window. Audience as sustained engagement over time, not reach at release.

Read that list again.

Every item on it is a description of enGEN3.

Audience-first. Multi-platform. IP ecosystems. Continuous audience engagement. Diversified revenue. IP that compounds over time. A governed system around generation that lets creators expand story worlds without destroying ownership or coherence. A permissioned sandbox where fans acquire the asset and co-create with the creator, under attribution, with revenue sharing, at scale. Disney is searching for ways to utilize its IP in a permissioned way. Studios are racing to build or acquire AI infrastructure. Because the people with the largest platforms in the business are finally acknowledging what some of us have been building toward for years. Because the financing is moving toward the exact systems we built. Because the creative leadership is arriving at the posture we have held for three years. Because the governance question the industry is only now naming is the question enGEN3 was built to answer.

And yet, the prevailing wisdom says Disney should double down. Go bigger. Spend the $30 billion to acquire Epic Games outright, own the sandbox, and let fans run wild with Disney I.P. inside a platform Disney controls.

I think that’s exactly wrong.

Not because the problem is wrong, the problem is urgent. But because the solution confuses owning a destination with building infrastructure. And that confusion is about to cost the entertainment industry its most valuable untapped resource: its fans.

The Problem Everyone Sees

The fan economy is massive, ungoverned, and accelerating.

Every day, millions of people create memes, remixes, fan art, fan films, edits, clippings, in-game builds, and derivative works using characters and stories that belong to someone else. They do it on Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and with a growing arsenal of generative A.I. tools that are putting studio-quality production capability in the hands of anyone with a laptop.

The unlicensed fan economy generates an estimated $100 billion to $300 billion in annual value. And there is no system, none, governing who has permission, who gets credited, and who gets paid.

Disney knows this. Everyone in entertainment knows this. The question is what to do about it.

The Acquisition Fallacy

The current thinking, articulated most clearly in Julia Alexander’s recent piece on Disney’s A.I. future, goes something like this: fans are already building with Disney I.P. inside gaming platforms, so Disney should own the platform. A former Tonight Show producer told Alexander, “You would have to have your own actual distribution platform. That’s the only way to do this right.”

I’d push back on the word “only.”

The instinct to own the sandbox is understandable. Disney got burned by Maker Studios, half a billion dollars and a PewDiePie scandal. They’ve watched YouTube and TikTok monetize fan creativity while I.P. holders got nothing. Now they’ve invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games and the partnership is still finding its footing while the company sheds a quarter of its workforce. The logic says: stop renting, start owning.

But that logic confuses where creation happens with how creation gets governed.

Fans don’t create inside one sandbox. They create everywhere, and “everywhere” is expanding exponentially as A.I. tools proliferate. Buying one sandbox doesn’t solve the licensing problem across all the others. It gives you a very expensive walled garden while the unlicensed fan economy keeps growing outside the walls.

Disney doesn’t need to own the place where fans create. Disney needs to own the system that governs how its I.P. gets used, credited, and monetized, wherever fans create.

What Disney Actually Needs

Think about what Stripe did for payments. Before Stripe, every company that wanted to accept money online had to build its own payment processing or cut bespoke deals with banks. Stripe didn’t become a bank. It didn’t become a storefront. It built the rails that let any storefront process payments. That infrastructure layer unlocked an entire economy.

The fan economy needs the equivalent, but for I.P. licensing. A system where a rights holder sets terms, a creator gets permission, and revenue flows back automatically. Where a fan making a Marvel edit on YouTube or building a Star Wars environment inside Fortnite is operating inside a structure, not a legal gray zone.

Not a gaming company with licensing bolted on. Not a billion-dollar bet on someone else’s platform. An operating system purpose-built for participatory I.P., with the licensing, attribution, and revenue infrastructure as its foundation.

That’s what we built at enGEN3.

How the Operating System Works

enGEN3 is the platform and infrastructure that makes licensed fan creation, derivative works, and shared monetization possible at scale.

An I.P. owner, whether that’s a studio like Disney, a comic book publisher, an indie creator, or an estate, plugs their IP into enGEN3. Three Forces Converging

This operating system is not just possible now. It’s urgent. Three forces are converging that make the status quo, millions of unlicensed fan works, no attribution, no revenue, untenable.

Generative A.I. is democratizing creation at a speed no one predicted.

Even the most uncanny A.I. content, deepfake Boomer slop on Facebook, surreal “fruit dating” videos dominating Reels and TikTok, is racking up hundreds of millions of views. And that content overwhelmingly uses existing I.P. without permission. Every new A.I. tool that makes it easier to create with someone else’s characters widens the licensing gap.

The legal landscape is shifting.

The Supreme Court’s 2023 decision in Andy Warhol Foundation v. Goldsmith narrowed fair use protections for transformative works, the same protections the fan economy has been operating under for decades. Rights holders have more leverage than ever, but no system to exercise it at scale. The choice is between mass enforcement [impossible] and mass infrastructure [enGEN3].

Audiences are participatory now.

More than half of Gen Z feels a stronger connection to creators than to traditional actors. Grow a Garden on Roblox surpassed 20 million concurrent players and is being adapted into a film. Skibidi Toilet, a surreal YouTube phenomenon made by a single creator inside a game engine, is becoming a Michael Bay movie. These aren’t passive consumers. They’re co-creators. They’re the most underused talent class in entertainment.

The Math

Disney’s $1.5 billion Epic investment bought a minority stake in a company now cutting costs and shedding employees. A full acquisition could run $30 billion or more. And even then, Disney would own one sandbox, with one set of tools, serving one slice of the fan economy.

Disney’s Marvel bench is 7,000 characters deep. Most of them are, as Alexander puts it, “collecting dust.” An operating system doesn’t require Disney to build theme parks inside a video game to activate that I.P. It lets millions of creators build with those characters, anywhere, with permission and revenue flowing back through the system automatically.

The acquisition play is vertical: own one destination, control what happens inside it. The operating system play is horizontal: govern how I.P. gets used across every platform, every tool, every creator. Vertical is expensive and fragile. Horizontal scales.

Fans Are the Most Underused Talent Class

Here’s what the acquisition conversation keeps missing: the value isn’t in the sandbox. It’s in the fans.

All of the fan creation Alexander and others describe is already happening, without Disney’s involvement, without permission, and without anyone getting paid. The industry’s only response has been to either ignore it or send lawyers. Neither captures value. Neither builds loyalty. And neither works in a world where A.I. is putting professional-grade tools in the hands of everyone.

The right answer isn’t to buy a sandbox and hope fans show up there instead of everywhere else. It’s to build the system that turns fan creativity into a shared economic engine, one where rights holders earn, creators earn, and the ecosystem grows instead of getting policed.

That system exists. We built it.

We’re Ready

Josh D’Amaro said it himself at Disney’s annual shareholders meeting: the company’s connection with fans has “never been more relevant or more powerful than it is today.” He’s right. But a $1.5 billion investment in someone else’s sandbox isn’t a fan strategy. It’s a distribution bet. And distribution bets don’t capture the $100 to $300 billion in value that fans are generating right now, today, without permission and without payment.

The fan economy doesn’t need another acquisition. It needs an operating system.

On March 19th, a16z dropped a podcast with Christian Catalini, MIT economist, former Chief Economist at Diem/Meta, one of the most cited researchers at the intersection of blockchain and economics. He had just published a 113-page economic framework for the AGI transition. It’s called Some Simple Economics of AGI and it’s been tearing through San Francisco, crypto, and VC circles since it dropped.

Phil McKenzie, my business partner, listen to it. I listened to it. Then we read it.

The Paper’s Core Thesis

Catalini’s argument is deceptively simple: as AI drives the cost of creating things toward zero, the scarce resource in the economy is no longer intelligence or execution. It’s verification. Can you prove where something came from? Can you prove who made it? Can you prove who stands behind it?

The paper models this as two racing cost curves. The cost to automate (what AI can produce) is collapsing exponentially. The cost to verify (what humans can confirm is real, authorized, and trustworthy) is biologically bottlenecked. That gap between what can be generated and what can be verified, Catalini calls it the Measurability Gap, is widening every day.

In an economy flooded with synthetic production, value doesn’t accrue to whoever generates the most output. It accrues to whoever can make output provenance-verifiable, rights-composable, and liability-insurable.

The Three Economies — and Where enGEN3 Sits

The paper describes a radical bifurcation of the global economy into three tiers:

The Solvable Economy. Everything that can be reduced to a metric gets commoditized by compute. The cost of execution races toward zero. This is where every AI production tool lives, Runway, Midjourney, Veo, Kling, and the dozens more arriving every month. They’re competing in a tier that the paper argues is structurally heading toward commodity pricing.

The Verified Economy. Where value equals the ability to verify outcomes, underwrite liability, and maintain ground truth. This is where the paper says economic rents migrate, to whoever builds the infrastructure that makes verification cheap and scalable. Catalini formalizes a “provenance premium”: any credible signal that something is verified, authorized, and traceable commands a structural price premium over unverified output.

The Status Games Economy. Where value is determined by social consensus, path-dependent legitimacy, and community coordination, not objective metrics. The paper argues these coordination equilibria are the most defensible economic tier because they can’t be synthesized by AI agents. The code is forkable, but the community that treats it as canonical is not.

enGEN3 doesn’t sit in one of these tiers. It sits at the intersection of all three.

The Slop Problem Is the Entertainment Industry’s Existential Threat

Here’s where the paper gets surgical, and where it maps directly onto what we see happening in entertainment right now.

Catalini describes what he calls “The Slop Problem”: when AI agents can generate synthetic content at zero marginal cost, they flood every network with plausible output that passes automated filters but fails human intent. Reviews that look real but aren’t. Engagement without relationship. Content that satisfies algorithmic metrics while destroying actual signal.

The paper proves, mathematically, that this creates an inversion of network effects. More participation doesn’t mean more value. It means less. The more open a platform is to unverified content, the less valuable it becomes. Signal-to-noise collapses. High-quality participants exit. The platform becomes what the paper calls a “dark forest” — where real creators retreat to private, high-trust channels to escape the synthetic flood.

This isn’t theoretical for entertainment. It’s happening now. AI-generated content is flooding every platform. IP owners can’t distinguish authorized derivative works from unauthorized ones. Fan creation that could be a massive growth engine is instead a legal liability. Every takedown notice kills a super-fan. Studios see the engagement and capture zero revenue.

The paper says the defense against this isn’t better filtering. It’s better identity and provenance. Networks that can certify real participation recreate scarcity. The paper calls this a “verification membrane”, costly provenance infrastructure that makes the signal expensive to fake, protecting the coordination equilibrium from being diluted by zero-cost imitation.

Why Rights-First Changes Everything

Most platforms in our space are trying to verify content after it’s been created. That’s what Catalini would call “shaky verification”, checking is structurally harder than the thing being checked. You’re playing whack-a-mole with infinite synthetic output.

enGEN3 does something fundamentally different. We establish the verification architecture before the content exists.

When an IP owner brings their universe onto enGEN3, they define participation terms, licensing rules, canon governance, and revenue splits before a single fan creates anything. Every asset gets a rights profile. Every derivative work carries embedded attribution. In Catalini’s framework, this is what expands the “easy verification regime.” It shifts creative IP transactions from unverifiable to verifiable. It doesn’t retrofit provenance onto a broken system, it makes provenance the founding architecture.

The paper formalizes this with a precise inequality: when cryptographic provenance infrastructure reduces the cost of process verification below a threshold, it expands the domain of what can be safely deployed at scale. That’s not a nice-to-have. That’s the structural precondition for participatory IP to exist as an economic category.

Canon Governance Is the Moat the Paper Describes

One of the paper’s most striking sections argues that in a world of infinite synthetic production, the most defensible competitive position is what Catalini calls being a “stable Schelling point in a social coordination game.” The product isn’t measurable attributes, it’s socially agreed interpretation. What counts as quality. What we stand for. What community I belong to.

Read that again and think about what canon governance does.

On enGEN3, everything fans create is sandbox by default. Nothing becomes part of an official universe unless the IP owner explicitly pulls it in. Canonization flows downward, never upward. Sandbox assets can still be traded, used, and monetized, they simply aren’t official canon.

This is exactly the “coordination equilibrium protected by costly-to-fake provenance and path-dependency” that the paper describes as the most durable form of competitive advantage. An entrant can replicate features. They can replicate content. They cannot replicate the social contract that determines what’s canonical within an IP universe. That’s a Schelling point sustained by path-dependent legitimacy, the paper’s own language for what we’ve been building. And that’s enGEN3.

And here’s the kicker: canonization is one of the most powerful incentive mechanisms on the platform. A fan seeing their character become part of an official universe is cultural recognition that drives creation volume, which drives the entire flywheel. It costs the IP owner nothing to grant. In the paper’s language, it’s a coordination device that generates verification-grade network effects without additional verification cost.

The Flywheel the Paper Formalizes

Catalini ranks network effects by defensibility in an agentic economy. From most vulnerable to most defensible:

1. Execution-grade liquidity (listings, content volume) : fragile, because AI agents can manufacture apparent scale at zero cost.

2. Data flywheels (matching, ranking) : contested, because user-side agents can disintermediate the platform’s algorithm.

3. Systems of record : bifurcated, because switching costs that are just labor can be automated away.

4. Verification-grade network effects : durable, because each tracked attribution and signed receipt builds a precedent library that makes the next verification cheaper.

5. Coordination equilibria : most defensible, because community identity, norms, and legitimacy are path-dependent and can’t be synthesized.

enGEN3 operates at tiers four and five simultaneously.

Every IP piloted. Every rights attestation logged. Every derivative chain tracked. Every canonization decision recorded. That’s verification-grade ground truth accumulating, what the paper calls a “trust-and-safety flywheel”: more verified participation leads to cheaper adjudication, which creates safer markets, which attracts more high-value participation.

And every IP universe that builds its community on the platform, with its own canon, its own governance, its own social contract about what counts, that’s a coordination equilibrium that no amount of compute can replicate.

What This Means for Investors

The paper gives us a formula that should be in every investor deck in entertainment and creative IP: NV ≡ ρN.

N is gross participation — accounts, listings, content volume. AI agents can inflate N at zero cost. ρ (rho) is the share of that activity that is credibly authenticated as real, high-quality, and non-synthetic. NV — verified network scale — is what matters.

Every platform competing with us on production volume is competing on N. enGEN3 is competing on ρ. Our entire architecture, rights-first infrastructure, on-chain attribution, automated licensing, canon governance, exists to maintain a high ρ. That’s the metric that determines whether a platform is building durable value or just accumulating synthetic noise.

The paper argues that as AI content floods every network, value migrates to platforms with high verification infrastructure. In Catalini’s language, the defense against slop is not better filtering, but better identity. enGEN3 is the only platform building that identity layer specifically for IP, whether that IP belongs to a studio, a brand, an independent creator, or a public figure protecting their likeness.

Platform economics, not production risk. We don’t finance, own, or bet on individual content. The Timing

The paper has dropped in the run up to Cannes Film Festival in May, where we will be publicly launching.

The entertainment industry is about to face the full force of what Catalini describes. AI-generated content flooding every platform. No infrastructure for provenance, rights verification, or liability. IP owners watching uncontrolled derivative creation happen at scale with zero revenue flowing back and zero governance over what gets made.

The paper calls this the “Trojan Horse” externality, plausible output that satisfies measurable proxies while violating unmeasured intent, accumulating hidden debt until the system breaks.

enGEN3 is the answer. Not because we read this paper and reverse-engineered a solution. Because this thesis has been developing in layers for years.

I started exploring the intersection of blockchain, filmmaking, and media in 2017 and began speaking publicly about it in 2018. By 2021, I was developing what would become the Film3™ brand and business model. Years of conviction. Four months of building at full speed. And a public launch at Cannes in seven weeks.

And here’s what the paper doesn’t describe, because it’s an economics paper, not a product thesis. Catalini formalizes the verification layer the economy needs. But verification without creation infrastructure is an empty promise. You can’t verify what no one is creating. You can’t attribute rights on content that has no place to be made.

Within days, I hosted my regular Twitter Space to formally introduce the Film3™ term to the community that had been forming around The Squad since I founded it in February 2021. That was the planned debut. And what came next was strategic brand building in every direction.

I went to the Cannes Film Festival and spoke about Film3™ as a developing business model. In June 2022, I produced Titans of Film3 in New York, my first live experience under the Film3™ brand. An educational and social gathering that brought together leaders who were each solving different pieces of the puzzle: funding, distribution, ownership, access. My closest partner at that time, Julian Flores, said to me: we need to plant a flag in the ground for Film3. And so he and I co-founded the Film3 Summit in Los Angeles, continuing the conversation in the real world through curated panels, leaders unpacking how blockchain and decentralization could serve the entertainment community, as well as streaming of films, music, poetry, and celebration. I followed quickly, producing and curating the Quantum Film3 Art Exhibition with my adviser and close colleague, Stephen Murray, again in Los Angeles, another live experience amplifying those building within the growing community around the Film3™ brand, and extending it deeper into experiential culture.

Four months later, I launched the global MetaCannes Film3 Festival in partnership with Theta Network, the first and only on-chain, on-demand virtual film festival in the world, and returned to Cannes to speak once again about Film3™. Then came my Film3 OG and the Next Wave of Cinema podcast, an ongoing platform for the conversations, creators, and ideas shaping the future of entertainment and technology.

None of this was accidental. Each initiative was a branded extension of a single source: The Squad, and myself. And along the way, we had the joy of amplifying our colleagues, intentionally extending the reach of the Film3™ brand to the brilliant people building alongside us.

While building these touch-points, I was simultaneously developing and refining the Film3™ business model alongside Stephen Murray. I invited people to become Ambassadors of The Squad and produced 4 twitter shows a week. I spoke at festival after festival. I built partnership after partnership. I was invited by the Italian government’s Ministry of Culture to speak on Film3™ and its business model in Italy. I spoke two years in a row at the NFC Summit in Lisbon on Film3™. I was invited to speak at Sotheby’s on Film3™. Just to name a few.

For the last several years, I have been focused on scaling the Film3™ business model into my original vision - actionable business model — its engine. Thus, enGEN3 — an AI-powered, participatory IP and protections operating system and infrastructure, built to operationalize everything the Film3™ brand and business model represents.

And here is the beauty of today. Four years to the day, I am shipping the alpha of enGEN3, my first product, and the Film3™ business model in action, to our Ambassadors for testing. Unlike everything else around the Film3™ brand, shipping on this day was not planned. But what a beautiful irony it is.

Four years of continuous, founder-led, strategically built brand architecture. And there is so much more to come.

This is serious infrastructure built by early movers in the GenAI ecosystem. And it validates the entire thesis behind enGEN3.

Last week, the company walked away from an $83 billion bid for Warner Bros. Discovery. Wall Street cheered. The stock jumped 14%.

And then, quietly, Netflix acquired InterPositive, an AI company built in secret by Ben Affleck, registered under a shell entity called Fin Bone LLC, with patents filed under his legal name and a proprietary dataset trained on closed soundstage footage.

InterPositive takes raw dailies from a film shoot and trains a custom AI model on them. That model can relight scenes, reframe shots, remove stunt wires, fix missing angles, color-correct entire films, and generate visual effects , work that currently employs thousands of people in post-production.

Netflix now owns all of it. Exclusively. No other studio gets access.

Think about the timing.

SAG-AFTRA’s contract expires in June. AI is the single biggest issue on the negotiating table. The last fight over AI shut Hollywood down for 148 days in 2023. And Netflix just acquired an AI production company right before the next round of negotiations begins.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria framed the acquisition as a creative empowerment play, saying the company believes new tools should expand creative freedom rather than replace the work of writers, directors, actors, and crews. Affleck echoed the sentiment, describing built-in restraints designed to protect creative intent and keep decisions in the hands of artists. That's what they always say.

The Two AI Futures

Here’s what nobody is saying yet: this acquisition just made visible a fork in the road the entertainment industry has been approaching for years. There are now two distinct AI futures for this business, and they lead to radically different places.

Future One: AI that replaces.

This is the InterPositive model. Train a machine on your footage. Automate post-production. Cut headcount. Reduce costs. Lock the technology behind exclusive ownership so no competitor can access it.

One studio benefits. The workforce absorbs the disruption.

This is extraction: fewer people, same output, concentrated ownership.

Future Two: AI that expands.

This is the model I’ve spent the last four years building.

Use AI not to replace the people who make stories, but to activate the people who love them.

Build infrastructure that lets fans and creators produce licensed derivative works inside IP universes, with rights holders compensated, creators credited, and participation governed by consent.

This is expansion: more people making things, new revenue streams that didn’t exist before, and value flowing back to creators and rights holders through licensed infrastructure rather than away from them through automation.

One model shrinks the pie and concentrates who holds it. The other grows the pie through participation.

The Walled Garden vs. Open Infrastructure

Netflix locked InterPositive behind exclusive ownership. No other studio, no other rights holder, no independent creator gets to use it.

It’s a competitive moat designed to give one company a structural cost advantage over everyone else. That’s a tool. And it does one thing for one buyer.

What we’re building with enGEN3 is the opposite: infrastructure that any rights holder can plug into. A participation layer where IP owners set the rules, creators and fans build within those rules, and the economics are shared.

Thirteen IP projects are already participating in our Test Pilot Program, thirteen rights holders who looked at the landscape and chose the participation model over the replacement model.

Ownership as the Guardrail

There’s a layer to this conversation that most people in entertainment are only beginning to understand.

Matthew McConaughey recently put it bluntly:

AI systems are already capable of reproducing voices, faces, performances, and creative styles. Without clear ownership structures, creators risk losing control over the very thing that defines their value.

And here’s the part most people haven’t fully grappled with yet.

Traditionally, if a studio wanted to change something after a film was shot, a performance, a shot, a lighting setup, even the tone of a scene, it required reshoots. That meant reassembling actors, rehiring crews, booking stages, and spending real money. Those logistical barriers acted as a kind of guardrail around creative decisions.

Tools like the one Netflix just acquired change that equation.

If a model trained on a film’s dailies can relight scenes, reframe shots, generate missing coverage, or alter visual elements after the fact, the barrier to changing a finished film drops dramatically. What used to require a full production effort becomes a post-production adjustment.

That shift doesn’t just affect budgets. It raises real questions about creative control, and who ultimately has the final say over a finished work.

This is where ownership becomes the real guardrail.

If creators, actors, and rights holders control their IP, their likeness, and the licensing terms around how their work can be used in AI systems, those tools can’t simply rewrite the rules after the fact. The technology may make change easier, but ownership determines who has the authority to make it.

That’s the principle behind the Film3™ business model, and the reason I built enGEN3.

Through enGEN3, creators and rights holders control how their IP, likeness, and creative assets are licensed into AI systems. They can collaborate with fans and brands in new ways while maintaining ownership, attribution, and monetization rails.

The alternative model already exists in Silicon Valley: AI companies offering large upfront payments in exchange for training rights while retaining long-term control over the models and the economic upside. Who Built This — and For Whom

InterPositive is an efficiency tool, and I’m not against it. Just like the digital camera democratized who could shoot a film at a fraction of what it cost to shoot on celluloid, and Photoshop democratized who could design, tools that streamline post-production have a legitimate place in this industry. Some jobs will be displaced along the way. But history shows that when creative tools become more accessible, more jobs are created than lost. That’s a pattern I believe in.

Where I differ is on extraction, ownership, and creative control.

I’m a filmmaker. I’m a SAG actor. I’ve spent years in rooms, on sets, and in edit bays. I developed the Film3 business model to address the pain points I kept running into; broken revenue models, opaque distribution, and creators steadily losing ownership of the very IP they built.

enGEN3 was built to solve for those problems: ownership, revenue, and DTC participation. But it also delivers budget efficiency and production acceleration for creators who never had the resources to access these tools in the first place. This isn’t black and white. Efficiency and empowerment aren’t opposites, the question is whether the system is designed to extract value from creators or to share it with them.

What June Is Going to Look Like

When SAG-AFTRA sits down at the negotiating table this summer, AI will dominate the conversation. Netflix acquiring an AI post-production company weeks before that fight begins will attract enormous attention, and likely significant backlash.

But here’s what most people don’t know: SAG-AFTRA has already engaged with the generative AI model. Kavan Cardoza secured the first-ever SAG-AFTRA contract for a hybrid AI-assisted production with his piece Echo Hunter. That’s a precedent, proof that the guild framework can already accommodate AI-driven creative work when it’s built on consent, compensation, and clear terms.

With the true power of AI unknown, the talent community is going to need more than opposition to AI. That ship has already sailed. They’re going to need a model that demonstrates how AI can work with creators instead of against them, a consent-and-compensation framework that treats participation as a feature rather than a threat.

That model already exists. We built it.

The Choice

Every investor, every rights holder, every guild leader, and every creator is going to have to decide which AI future they’re backing.

One future looks like a machine that makes the same things cheaper with fewer people.

The other looks like infrastructure that makes new things possible with more people, and shares the value.

Netflix just made their choice visible.

When I branded Film3™ in 2022, it was because I saw a structural gap in how entertainment was evolving, and no one was naming it. Film3 wasn’t a slogan. It was a framework.

The Film3 business model was built around eight pillars: financing, development, production, amplification, distribution, revenue-sharing, built-in audiences, and original IP ownership, designed as a full-stack framework for how stories should be created, owned, and monetized in a participatory era. Not a theory. A working model tested in real-world hybrid productions, including my short film Red Flags, which I wrote, directed and produced, and Julie Pacino’s I Live Here Now, where I served as Associate Producer.

But a business model is only as scalable as the infrastructure behind it.
That’s where enGEN3 comes in.

Storytelling Belongs to the People

The instinct to tell stories, to gather around them, to build identity through them, is ancient. It’s biological.

For most of modern history, scale required gatekeepers. Participatory culture changes that.

The first large-scale community to truly understand that shift was Web3, not because of speculation, but because of ownership, belonging, and co-creation. That’s why signing original community-driven IP projects like Ordinauts and Oni Force matters. These are communities built around shared creative worlds where members already participate in the storytelling. They’ve been practicing participatory culture at a structural level before the tools caught up.

But Web3 was never the ceiling. It was the signal.

Participatory culture is far bigger than any single technology or movement [see Swifties]. It is human. And GenAI expands who gets to build, lowering the barriers that once confined storytelling to those with capital, proximity, or institutional access.

And yet, it still comes back to story. It still comes back to taste. It still comes back to the human.

The Real Breakthrough Isn’t the Model. It’s the Studio.

Most AI companies optimize generation. We optimize narrative ecosystems.

This is not about flooding the market with content. It’s about advancing storytelling. It’s about giving fans a legal pathway to co-create inside the worlds they love, turning fan fiction into structured participation, rewarding exceptional contribution with canon, and protecting IP owners in a GenAI world instead of leaving them exposed to chaos.

This is not rebellion against Hollywood. It’s evolution.

AI Panic Isn’t New

When SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America went on strike, AI was a flashpoint. Fear dominated the discourse. Some of it was justified. Some of it was misinformation.

Hollywood has done this before.

In 1982, Tron was disqualified from Academy Award VFX consideration because computer graphics were considered an unfair advantage, effectively “cheating.”

Today, that decision feels almost surreal.

Especially when you remember what Tron was about: a human pulled inside a machine, navigating a digital world from within. A story that, in many ways, prophesied the direction storytelling itself would take.

The industry rejected the very inflection point it would later depend on.

Filmmaking evolves. Tools evolve. The form expands. GenAI is simply the next tool. The danger isn’t the tool. The danger is failing to build the rails around it. And that, interestingly enough, was part of Tron’s warning too, when systems evolve without governance, chaos follows.

The question has never been whether technology advances. The question is who builds the architecture that shapes it.

Collaboration Is Cinema

Collaboration isn’t the future of cinema. It is cinema.

No auteur makes a film alone. Not without a cinematographer shaping the frame. Not without actors breathing life into words. Not without editors discovering rhythm in post. Not without sound designers, composers, production designers, each interpreting, refining, elevating.

Cinema has always been collective.

And cinema has always been collaborative with tools.

We collaborate with the camera. We collaborate with lighting. We collaborate with VFX. We collaborate with compositing software. Illustrators collaborate with Photoshop. Musicians collaborate by comping vocals and layering tracks.

Even in 1982, when Tron was dismissed for using computer graphics, filmmakers were already collaborating with machines to expand the frame.

GenAI is not a rupture in that lineage. It is the next tool.

Joint intelligence isn’t a revolution against cinema. It’s a continuation of it. Humans guiding tools. Professionals shaping output. Taste remaining the arbiter. Meaning remaining human.

What is evolving isn’t whether we collaborate with tools. It’s the scope of who gets to participate in the process, and under what structure.

A writer in Karachi who never had access to Hollywood infrastructure can now prototype a world. A screenwriter who lacked the resources to develop a comic can visualize one. A fan who once wrote in isolation can now contribute within canon, permissioned, structured, legally.

Not chaos. Not replacement. Structured participation.

Creators working alongside GenAI to accelerate vision, not replace it, guided by professionals who understand craft, tone, and story.

Fans who want to consume can consume. Fans who want to build can build.

IP owners retain control. Canon is protected. Studios gain structured engagement instead of unlicensed derivative culture.

And storytelling advances.

That is the north star.

A year earlier, it had become clear that the Film3 business model I’d been developing since 2021, proven on an indie level, had stalled. Not because it didn’t work. Because no one else had the vision to scale it.

I did.

GenAI had unlocked the one piece that was missing: production. Suddenly we could make projects at a fraction of the cost, at speed, without sacrifice. The Film3 business model was finally complete. A new economic model where IP owners don’t need to break the bank, wait years, or lose control. [I’ve written about this extensively—link.]

Hat tip to my friend and advisor Stephen Murray When I shared what I was building, he said: “You are sitting on the very thing that proves what you’ve been talking about with Film3 since 2021.”

By late 2024, I had developed the infrastructure to execute. Same playbook I’d always used—bootstrap. No outside funding. No institutional backing. Just a determination to prove a model works.

Then Phil McKenzie had an idea.

Phil saw my operating system—the thing I’d built for myself to execute my vision—and said: “I think this is bigger than you know.”

He was right.

Now, entering 2026: world-class IP lined up around the block. A growing advisory board across entertainment and tech. Team members working globally in London, Los Angeles, and Cairo. Out for a seed round to support the vision. And this month, we launch our Creative Partner Program, a small, curated group of early believers who will receive equity. Because as we grow, they should grow.

To understand why this is inevitable, you need to understand what converged.

This is institutional muscle. Global infrastructure. A decade of world-class execution.

The Squad and Film3: The Innovation

On my side: five years of building the future, bootstrapped.

The Film3 business model was framed explicitly as an economic and operational framework for redefining ownership, creator-led studios, direct-to-consumer relationships, and the removal of unnecessary intermediaries. The Film3 business model was rooted in the full lifecycle of filmmaking—finance, production, community, and distribution. This was not theory for theory’s sake. It was designed to be functional, something that could be tested, stressed, and applied in the real world.

That work began in early 2021, but in January 2022 with the minting of the short motion picture RED FLAGS [Deadline], alongside Julie Pacino’s feature film I LIVE HERE NOW [Hollywood Reporter], and later that year with Miguel Faus’ Goya nominated CALLADITA, distributed through Bingeable, proving the model. Those efforts attracted an expanding circle of extraordinary collaborators: Sundance winners, Goya nominees, Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated and winning partners, and Emmy-nominated talent—artists operating at the highest levels of global cinema.

Laying the Foundations (2021–2024)

Between 2021 and 2024, the work was foundational.

During that period, Film3 evolved as a brand through a growing set of initiatives: the Film3 Summit, the MetaCannes Film3 Festival [Decrypt], the Film3 OG and Next Wave Cinema podcast, the Film3 Substack. As generative AI emerged and matured, the Film3 business model reached coherence, not because of the technology alone, but because it completed a system that had already been forming across finance, production, community, and distribution.

The Film3 brand became not only a cultural hub—through events and media—but also an active production engine alongside The Squad. None of this was incidental or ornamental. Each initiative functioned as a real-world test of the Film3 business model across production, distribution, community engagement, and financing.

In January 2025, I wrote, directed and produced ᏌᎪᏂᎨ—an award-winning AI-hybrid short. By then, MetaCannes Film3 Festival was in its thrid year as the only on-chain, on-demand film festival but had also planted the flag as the first traditional film festival to curate AI cinema in the world [2023].

I’ve been invited to share the Film3 business model at NAB, the Italian Ministry of Culture Producers A/V Summit, NFC Summit, Rhode Island Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and more. The world was paying attention.

When I was coming up as an actor, years before originating and developing Film3 or earning awards as a filmmaker there was a well-understood path.

You built a career incrementally. Guest stars. Recurring roles. A co-star that turned into something steadier. If you were lucky, and good, you might land a series regular, and alongside that, you’d do films, theatre, or indie work to deepen your craft. It wasn’t easy, but it was a system that, at least in theory, created opportunity. Sustainable work. Union protections. A ladder.

Then reality television hit.

I watched it happen in real time. Networks realized they didn’t need scripted shows to fill time slots. They didn’t need SAG actors. They didn’t need writers’ rooms. They could produce unscripted content with non-union performers for a fraction of the cost—and audiences watched. By the mid-2000s, reality programming had exploded from a handful of shows to dominating prime time, and those scripted slots we’d all been climbing toward? They disappeared almost overnight.

What was lost wasn’t just jobs. It was careers that never had the chance to begin.

Entire ecosystems of working actors, writers, and directors were quietly erased, not because audiences rejected storytelling, but because economics changed faster than culture could respond. And as always, marginalized and underrepresented performers, already fighting for fewer slots, lost the most.

That’s the moment I keep thinking about now.

Because we’re here again…. but not exactly.

This time, the tools point in a different direction. Not toward fewer opportunities, but more. Not toward erasure, but expansion, if we build it right.

The AI Debate Is Missing the Point

Even James Cameron, one of the most technologically forward filmmakers of our time, has been clear that AI will play a role in the future of filmmaking. He has spoken openly in multiple interviews about its potential to reduce costs, accelerate workflows, and expand what’s creatively possible in production.

At the same time, Cameron has been explicit about where he personally draws a boundary. In an interview with Variety, he said, “I’m not personally interested in using those tools, in using any pathway that uses technology to replace human creativity.” He continued, “We may be able to replace an actor [with a generative character]. I say ‘we’, but I wouldn’t do it. Is it desirable? Does it create that unique character that is based on two sets of unique human experiences, the screenwriter’s and the actor’s?”

I understand the instinct. We all do.

As an actor and a director I can tell you, there’s something sacred about human performance. The breath. The unpredictability. The presence you can’t manufacture. That’s worth protecting. Cameron isn’t wrong to feel protective of it. I feel protective of it.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth: we already crossed that line decades ago.

Mickey Mouse didn’t kill acting. Motion capture didn’t kill acting. Voice acting didn’t kill acting. Games didn’t kill acting.

They expanded it.

An actor performing motion capture for a game is still acting. An actor voicing Moana is still acting. A performer bringing life to a digital body is still doing the work… emotionally, physically, creatively.

What’s new now isn’t the idea of digital performance.

It’s the fidelity.

A New Medium, Not the End of One

We now have characters that are animated but read as live-action. That’s the shift. That’s what’s unsettling.

But conceptually? This isn’t unprecedented. It’s a new vertical - new tools, new workflows, new economics, not the death of performance.

In fact, I suspect the opposite may be true.

Live-action human performance may become more special, not less. More intentional. More meaningful. More scarce in the best way.

And paradoxically, this could make great actors more available.

If some production shifts toward AI-driven or animated-live-action work, it lowers barriers for writers and directors who historically never had access to top-tier performers. Actors who once relied exclusively on legacy gatekeepers may find new pathways, through voice, motion capture, hybrid performance, or collaborations that didn’t exist before.

I’m living this right now.

I’m creating digital animations that read as live-action. I sometimes voice the performances myself, I’m a SAG actor, and this is what is in budget. [Quick aside: Walt Disney himself provided Mickey’s iconic high-pitched voice and other sound effects in Steamboat Willie, making it the first synchronized sound cartoon for the character.]

Sometimes, I perform the voice work and then license a different voice through the platform ElevenLabs, paying both a performance fee and a voice license. The work is split differently, but it’s still work. Still human. Still compensated. That’s not replacement. That’s more roles, not fewer.

So when conversations flare up around AI-generated characters like Tilly Norwood, I can’t help but think: she’s Mickey Mouse. Literally. She’s a digital character that still requires human creators, human directors, human writers, human voice performers. The fidelity is new. The concept isn’t.

And the system can work. SAG-AFTRA’s approval of Kavan Cardoza’s Echo Hunter proved it. Actors were compensated. Models were trained on their likenesses, with consent. They did motion capture. They did voice work. That’s the future functioning correctly: consent, credit, compensation, opportunity. It’s already happening.

Is it democratizing? I don’t know yet.

It may actually become more exclusive at the top, and if history is any guide, that exclusivity will look familiar. The same systemic barriers that have always determined who gets the biggest budgets, the greenlit franchises, the seats at the table, don’t disappear just because the tools change. They adapt. The danger isn’t just consolidation. It’s consolidation that looks like progress while reproducing the same patterns.

Or it may fracture into multiple sustainable lanes instead of one impossible bottleneck.

What I do know is this: more content will be made. And more content - done responsibly - creates more opportunities, not fewer.

The Actor’s Perspective No One Is Saying Out Loud

From an actor’s perspective, this moment isn’t clean. There is loss. Anyone pretending otherwise isn’t being honest.

But there’s also continuity.

In the past, I’ve voiced projects I also directed and edited. I’ve been a one-stop shop - not out of novelty, but necessity. That’s the reality for most independent filmmakers. We’ve always had to be hybrids. Multi-hyphenates.

This isn’t radically different. It’s an extension of the same survival logic creatives have always used.

Some people will adapt faster. Some will become hybrids. Some will resist entirely. That’s not new either.

Framing the Moment Correctly

The question isn’t whether AI replaces actors.

The real questions are whether we protect consent, protect compensation, and design systems that expand opportunity instead of concentrating power.

Because technology doesn’t decide outcomes. Business models do.

If we frame this moment honestly - as the emergence of a new medium rather than the erasure of an old one - we can shape what comes next.

If we don’t, someone else will.

The Structural Shift

Disney’s decision to integrate generative AI into its creative ecosystem confirms what many of us have already understood: AI is no longer an experiment at the margins of storytelling. It is becoming foundational.

And Disney isn’t alone in seeing this.

Ari Emanuel recently put it plainly: IP is going to be huge business—infinite distribution, many forms of content. That’s the bet.

By licensing its IP for generative use and integrating AI tools into internal workflows, Disney is acknowledging a structural shift. Audiences will increasingly generate, not just consume. Engagement will increasingly be participatory, not passive. Creative workflows will increasingly be AI-native, not AI-adjacent.

This is not a philosophical shift. It is an operational one.

And it validates the direction enGEN3 was built for.

Where the Models Diverge

Confirmation is not evolution.

Disney’s partnership operates, intentionally, within a traditional studio framework. IP ownership remains centralized. Governance remains top-down. Participation is framed as engagement, not economic collaboration.

That model reflects the realities of a legacy studio stewarding global franchises, navigating regulation, scale, and entrenched economics. It serves their needs.

But it is not the only model AI makes possible.

The Signal Flows Both Ways

Disney’s move unlocks something powerful: signal at scale.

Every prompt using Disney IP becomes data, revealing which characters resonate, which worlds audiences want to explore, and where emotional energy actually flows. That signal informs future decisions, product strategy, and creative direction.

enGEN3 generates that same signal.

The difference is what happens next.

enGEN3 is a production engine, a studio operating system for IP, that runs from idea to screen. Because everyone has a story. And enGEN3 is built to help them tell it.

Here’s the design: fans can earn from what they create.

enGEN3 is built on a simple idea. Shared co-creation should lead to shared revenue. If people help expand the cinematic universe, they should share in the economic value. It’s fan fiction on steroids.

That architecture wasn’t added later. It was in the design.

Disney has announced protections for creators. The specific terms remain unclear. enGEN3 was built with those terms as a core feature, not an afterthought.

Infrastructure for Participation

The difference between confirmation and evolution is incentive architecture.

Disney’s model uses AI to extend reach and engagement. So does enGEN3. But enGEN3 also uses AI to enable the ongoing expansion of IP worlds, and gives IP owners the tools to share value back with the people who help build them.

enGEN3 was designed from the outset as infrastructure for participation… at every level.

It makes revenue participation possible by design. The capability is native to the platform - not a bolt-on, not a promise, not something to be negotiated later.

Crucially, IP ownership remains centralized. Governance remains with the IP owner. enGEN3 allows IP owners - corporate, legacy studio, independent, brand, or sports - to decide whether fans can co-create, what they’re allowed to co-create, and how revenue is shared when those creations are monetized.

We’ve seen this before. Every time a new artistic medium emerges, the self-appointed gatekeepers panic. When Photoshop arrived, analog purists said digital tools were the death of art. When cinema was born, the theatre elite dismissed it as a parlor trick. “Real art,” they said, lived on the stage, on the boards. They believed film could never carry the soul of live performance. But time proved them wrong. The motion picture didn’t destroy art. It expanded it.

The camera captured something the stage could not: truth through intimacy. The distance of the theatre allowed for a kind of honorable deception, broad strokes, projection, technical craft substituting for genuine feeling. In the close-up, only truth survives. The lens collapsed the distance, it could capture something profound, truth through intimacy too delicate to reach the back row of a theatre.

The same actors who once rejected film discovered they could no longer hide behind craft. What the stage allowed them to conceal, the camera demanded they reveal.

The pattern never changes. Painters dismissed photography. Photographers sneered at digital. Cinephiles derided video. The refrain is always the same: new tools threaten real art.

But what’s really threatened is privilege.

The False Prestige of Difficulty

Every generation of artists faces this moment: a technological shift that threatens the illusion of exclusivity. Art’s “prestige” has been protected by its barriers, “difficulty” a code for exclusivity. You needed money, gear, training, resources historically limited to a narrow class. Those barriers didn’t protect art. They protected privilege.

So when someone says, “There’s no barrier to entry anymore,” they don’t mean that as celebration, but lament. For those who’ve always had access, the rise of democratized creation feels like chaos, because barriers weren’t meritocratic. They weren’t filtering for talent. They were providing cover.

When digital cameras became accessible, the gatekeepers panicked because anyone could suddenly tell a story without asking permission. Difficulty was mistaken for authenticity. Scarcity for excellence.

Removing the barrier doesn’t cheapen art, it liberates it. It delivers the mic to voices that were systematically silenced. Marginalized voices. Othered voices. The ones who were never meant to breathe that rarified air.

“AI Slop” and Historical Hypocrisy

Now we hear those same voices dismissing AI-assisted work as “AI slop.” But the irony is rich: the industry has long been powered by decades of mediocrity, most often from the same privileged class. But that mediocrity was curated, funded, distributed.

What’s new now is access.

The truth is, these tools don’t replace creativity, they amplify it. With AI, creation becomes possible for those who couldn’t afford a camera, crew, or budget And yes, chaos comes with democratization. Every new medium begins with noise before it finds its voice. Early digital photos looked flat compared to oil paintings. Early film felt crude beside theatre. The first GenAI experiments will not have the polished look 125 years of cinema has developed. That’s predictable. It doesn’t discredit the form. It reminds us of the evolution curve every art form goes through: chaos → imitation → innovation → craft → mastery.

We are simply watching that curve unfold again, at light speed.

Hollywood Knows This Isn’t the Apocalypse

And some of Hollywood’s most respected storytellers are already saying the quiet part out loud. I wrote about it in my article “AI Isn’t the Threat, It’s the Tool” and its worth noting again, James Cameron believes Hollywood is approaching artificial intelligence from the wrong angle, arguing that the real issue isn’t what AI is trained on, but what it ultimately produces. He draws a parallel to human creativity: just as artists are inspired by existing works but can’t simply copy them without facing legal or cultural consequences, AI should be judged by the originality of its output, not by the data it learns from.

Now the great Ron Howard weighs in:

“It’s going to help filmmakers get more of what’s in their mind’s eye onto screens in very efficient ways… just as digital effects were.”

These are filmmakers whose movies shaped modern storytelling. They’re not afraid of the tool, they’re clear-eyed about its role:

AI won’t replace soul.
It will replace friction.
It will eliminate inefficiency.
It will make the craft more accessible.

So those purists who claim that using AI means “selling out,” or diluting art, they may not see what’s coming. Because the industry isn’t debating philosophy anymore. The machinery is already shifting.

The Human Story

AI is not divine or dangerous; it’s a mirror of the human behind it. Because the soul isn’t in the tool. It’s in the human. AI doesn’t create meaning; it reflects it

AI does not understand love, betrayal, loss, humiliation, pride, or desire. It doesn’t know what it means to ache for a thing. It doesn’t know death or the fear of it.

It can only reflect. It absorbs, learns, recombines… just like the human brain. The art comes from the one who wields it: The artist decides what to see, what to feel, what to say. The artist still shapes meaning, through taste, intention, rhythm, and intuition. Prompting is not a shortcut. It’s a new literacy. It demands intuition. It demands sensitivity. It demands choice. It demands vision. It demands taste.

The artist remains. The medium evolves.

Those claiming AI “steals soul” aren’t defending creativity, they’re defending control, and projecting a fear: not of technology, but of obsolescence.

The Myth of Selling Out

Early in my career I was offered a television role. My manager told me not to take it, that it would be “selling out,” because TV wasn’t prestige. Because being an “artist” required purity.

That same snobbery is back now, “artists” whispering that using AI is selling out. That these new tools somehow dilute your integrity. But purity is just another word for elitism. For gatekeeping. For control.

“Selling out” has always been a phrase used by people afraid of change.

Artists don’t sell out when they evolve. They sell out when they stop feeling. When they start thinking: “What’s cool? What’s exclusive? What’s elite?” instead of “What’s true?” When they guard the gates instead of opening them.

The Point — More Urgent Than Ever

Art evolves. Technology democratizes. Power shifts. Every time.

The arrival of AI doesn’t signal the death of art, it signals its rebirth. Access widens. Gatekeepers crumble. Walls fall.

If your creative identity depends on excluding others, calling their work unworthy, calling their tools illegitimate, you’re not an artist. You’re a gatekeeper of a dying hierarchy.

That era is over.

It wasn’t until my twenties that I realized why I had fallen in love with these rugged beasts. I came across an old photograph, that same Scout, my father’s, glinting in the sun, and it seemed like these cars, these first SUVs, were some lost treasure. A secret that no one harbored. Something shifted in me then, I had to have one of my own.

Not long after, I found myself behind the wheel of one. A white 1972 Scout II that I tooled around Santa Monica in, restoring it piece by piece. I sold the white one and bought a beast, a green 1976 Scout II with a 345 motor, full roll cage, soft top, and a six-inch lift. It was a sight to behold, raw power, loud, unapologetic. That truck became a legend on Sunset Boulevard: a young woman with chestnut hair flying behind her, roaring down the strip in a machine that looked born of both desert dust and rebellion. In a city obsessed with sleek cars and quiet luxury, the Scout was something else entirely… a declaration. A story to tell.

When I moved back to NYC, I had to let it go. Salt and snow aren’t kind to old steel, and even legends need the right home. But my love for Scouts never left me. The original SUV. Those who know, know.

So, when I learned that Scout Motors had resurrected the brand, after International Harvester shuttered it back in 1980, I felt something stir. Excitement. Destiny. The world felt right again. It’s more than nostalgia. It’s a full circle moment.

Now, as a filmmaker, with the power of GenAI tools and my memories, I have a story to tell. This is my homage, to freedom and rebelliousness, to my father, to that little girl on the bench seat, to the wild young woman tearing through Los Angeles, and to the machine that carried them both.

Because legends never die.

But I need to take you back to the future.

In that same article, I wrote about fan fiction and dropped my AI-powered concept teaser trailer in honor of all the fans who had wanted my character, Julia Walker, in Poltergeist: The Legacy, resurrected. The power of GenAI gave me the ability to spin up my own fan fiction based on someone else’s IP.

After my young actor experience on Poltergeist: The Legacy a couple of decades ago, I wanted to continue telling stories in ever-expanding worlds with deep and complex character arcs. So, I decided to write the world I want to inhabit. At the time, I called it a Series Bible, and at the time, no one was going to let a young actor and budding writer just go make a TV Series. So, it languished in my hard drive.

In 2021, when I began to put together what is now the Film3™, even before we even had a term for it, I knew that my Stealth project would find life in Web3. I wasn’t entirely sure how, but by 2023 I had a sense that my project was going to prove the Film3™ business model. I showed the project and my vision for it to my close friend and Film3™ advisor Stephen Murray. His response was immediate: “This is how you scale your vision of Film3™.”

And while I’ve been building that project in stealth since 2023, and we have yet to announce it, enGEN3 was ignited by it. But here is the thing. I built enGEN3 for myself, as a way to manage a solo project, and an interactive franchise.

It was exactly one year ago when I showed it to my now partner in enGEN3, Phil McKenzie, founder of Goldfinch Entertainment, that he realized, as he says now, “Jordan doesn’t know what she has here.” To be fair, I didn’t.

Now, I think it’s important to note that I’m not alone in seeing the brand-to-participant model emerge in this way. As a film director I’ve always known that while my film may say, “A Film By Jordan Bayne”, and indeed it is my vision… there are several to hundreds of people, depending on the size of production, who make a film, cast and crew. In fact, I wrote another article on a visionary model called InDigEnt, which was a precursor by 20 years to the Film3™ business model and I argue is the DNA behind much of what I am building. Upon the shoulders of greatness I stand…

So for me, it’s the next iteration of what NFTs promised to be in 2021, call them assets or collectibles, is what I believe many of us are working out. These Digital assets are digital keys that unlock worlds, rewards, quests, gamifying cinema in a way that, prior to this moment, was a power only studios held because all the resources flowed through them via IP ownership and gatekeeping.

But Web3 has changed that. And the Film3™ business model, where IP ownership is a core principle, puts the power back with creators and how they want to engage with their communities. In traditional terms, fans, like the Swifties have shown us, we can cut out the gatekeepers and build worlds and IP economies alongside and directly to our communities.

This is enGEN3. We’re beyond collectible-driven crowdfunding, and beyond a blueprint for cinematic world expansion. We take fan engagement to the next level. We co-create and evolve IP economies. Interactive cinematic franchises, expanding with shared revenue generators. It’s not extractive. Its expansive.

Let’s unpack this a little bit more, starting with Claynosaurz, a true innovator in the Web3 space. It’s been nothing but thrilling to watch them build, and I’m, sadly, not even a holder.

Claynosaurz proved what many of us have been saying for years: Web3-native IP can compete with the majors. What they’ve built is nothing short of groundbreaking. Claynosaurz showed that a Web3-first franchise can hold its own culturally with Disney, Netflix, and Pixar. They didn’t wait for permission. But here’s the thing: what Claynosaurz achieved in 2022, in the middle of the bear market, makes them a unicorn.

Claynosaurz is one of one, a trailblazing example of what happens when vision, experience, and resources align to form a single, expansive IP. They built a standalone ecosystem from scratch. With a team of DreamWorks and Disney veterans, deep technical partners, and a collector base that showed up early and strong. That’s not common. That’s not replicable. That’s not most people’s story.

Nic Cabana, founder of Claynosaurz said something that stuck with me: “Distribution is free.” He’s right, the internet eliminated the cost of reaching audiences. But what about the fan who makes a viral remix? The creator who builds a game mod? The artist whose fan art becomes canon?

Free distribution is powerful. But without infrastructure for permissioned monetization, it’s still one-way value flow. enGEN3 is building the rails that let creators and fans not just share content freely, but also track, license, and monetize the remixes that add real value to the IP ecosystem.
