patterns in human perception that existed before there was a social media campaign and continue to exist regardless of how much money, or influence is spent promoting the message.

Research into evolutionary psychology has shown that visible skin provides an immediate read-out of health, age, and genetic integrity. Tattoos cover up this information with non-intrusive (and sometimes non-communicative) permanent additions that may be seen by many observers as background “noise” rather than as enhancements.

In addition, research on facial symmetry and complexion has also demonstrated the importance of the same visual cues and the poll is simply measuring the application of those cues in real world situations. The men responding to the poll did not create new rules on the fly.

Rather they were acting upon universal preferences which have appeared across cultures and throughout time when artificial markings (such as tattoos) are not considered.

The fact that these preferences remain constant in spite of all attempts to promote them through media, celebrities and social influencers, contradicts the idea that beauty standards are nothing more than arbitrary social constructs.

Beauty is Skin Deep

If beauty standards could be changed arbitrarily then by now many years of social media and millions of dollars spent in advertising would have had some effect on changing preferences.

However, the data continues to reflect the same thing year after year. Dr. Jordan Peterson has argued that fundamental characteristics of humans and physical signals that are indicative of those characteristics cannot be altered ideologically. The poll demonstrates that he is correct in his argument.

While preferences based upon observable biological indicators may be declared to be irrelevant by advocates for change in name only, they do not go away.

The Woke movement frames its opposition to tattoos as old-fashioned judgments or as efforts to control women’s bodies. Advocates frame body art as a means of gaining freedom and empowerment for women. However, the data tells a very different story.

For many viewers, the explosion of tattoos represents no less than just another method of group signaling. Stylized designs are transmitted through the same platforms and celebrity networks that reinforce other trends. Thus, the trend appears to be little more than an effort for individuals to gain approval within very limited social circles.

What happens when the short-term social credibility associated with being part of such a trend wears off and the longer term realities become apparent?

Subscribe now

Get 64% off for 1 year

Jordan Peterson said it anyway.

It’s not surprising that people don’t want to know the truth about IQ because it’s quite nasty, Peterson said. There are huge differences between people in their intrinsic ability to learn. And that has walloping economic and social consequences.

Subscribe to the Jordan Peterson Substack. Readers get 64% off for a year.

Get 64% off for 1 year

An Inconvenient Truth Nobody Wants To Touch

That is not a comfortable thing to say out loud.

It is also, according to Peterson, simply true, and true things do not stop being true just because both political tribes would rather look away from them. Conservatives and liberals have each built an entire worldview around avoiding this particular reality, and Peterson is not interested in letting either side off the hook.

Where Both Political Sides Get It Wrong

IQ does the liberal and the conservative political perspectives incredible damage, Peterson said. Conservatives are likely to say there’s a job for everyone if they just get up and get at it. The liberals like to say everybody can be trained to do everything.

Both of those are wrong.

Two comfortable stories. Two easy explanations that let each side avoid a much harder conversation. The conservative version blames laziness. The liberal version blames a lack of training or opportunity. Neither one actually grapples with the deeper problem sitting underneath both explanations.

The Problem Nobody Has A Plan For

Here is where Peterson lands the real point. There’s a large number of people who have enough trouble with abstraction that finding a productive job in a complex society has become extraordinarily difficult, he said. And that’s a huge problem. And we have no idea what to do with it. We won’t even look at it.

Sit with that for a second.

An entire category of Americans is struggling to find a stable place in a modern economy that increasingly demands abstract reasoning, complex problem solving, and constant adaptation, and neither political party has a real answer for them. Not a jobs program. Not a training initiative. Not even an honest acknowledgment that the problem exists in the first place.

Why Pretending The Gap Isn’t There Doesn’t Make It Go Away

Pretending the gap is not there does not shrink it.

That single line captures exactly why Peterson’s willingness to say uncomfortable things matters. A society that refuses to look honestly at a real problem cannot possibly design a real solution for it. You cannot fix what you will not name, and right now, according to Peterson, almost nobody in political life is willing to even name this one.

That is not cruelty. That is clarity, and clarity is the first step toward actually helping the people both parties currently pretend do not exist.

Why This Conversation Deserves More Attention, Not Less

This is exactly the kind of conversation most public intellectuals avoid entirely, because saying it out loud invites accusations from every direction. Peterson says it anyway, because avoiding the truth has never actually solved a single problem it was meant to hide.

Subscribe to the Jordan Peterson Substack today and get 64% off for a year.

Get 64% off for 1 year

Jordan Peterson Took On The Mob And Never Once Raised His Voice

Peterson

America Reborn

Screaming protesters with air horns. Watch it and you get a masterclass in staying calm while an entire mob tries to shout you into silence.

There Is No Such Thing As Social Justice

Peterson opens with a line that lands like a wrecking ball. There is simply no such thing as social justice. Whatever those who rely on this clichéd phrase are aiming at has nothing whatsoever to do with justice. Justice is meted out at the level of the suffering individual.

That single sentence is the entire philosophical argument in miniature, and it echoes something Thomas Sowell has been proving with data for fifty years. Sowell showed the numbers. Peterson supplied the moral clarity. Individuals suffer and individuals deserve justice. Groups do not.

Get 64% off for 1 year

Standing Firm Against Compelled Speech

Around 49:01, the compilation shows exactly what it cost Peterson to say that out loud. When Canada proposed a law making it illegal not to use someone’s preferred pronoun, Peterson refused to comply, and hundreds of his own university colleagues signed a petition demanding he be fired.

His response is worth remembering. The government has absolutely no business whatsoever ever governing the content of your voluntary speech. He goes further too, making clear he was never against basic human courtesy. If I personally said, I’d like you to call me Z or Zen, we could have a conversation about that. The issue was never kindness. The issue was compulsion.

That distinction matters enormously, and almost nobody in public life was willing to draw it as clearly as Peterson did while protesters blew air horns in his face.

Calm In The Middle Of The Storm

There is a moment around 51:36 where the video shows protesters surrounding Peterson, screaming, following him even after he moved outdoors to escape the noise. He stayed composed through all of it, and later explained why. Better to be calm. Best to let the unreasonable opposition speak because they manifest themselves as unreasonable and then everyone can see it.

That is not weakness. That is discipline. Sowell has made a similar point his entire career, that data and patience outlast noise every time, and Peterson lived that principle in real time while a mob tried to drown him out.

The Data Behind The Conviction

From roughly 52:44 onward, Peterson takes on the gender wage gap directly, explaining that natural differences account for most of it, a conclusion backed by research spanning tens of thousands of people across dozens of countries. He does not flinch when a television host tries to twist his words into something he never said. He simply restates the research and moves on.

This is where Peterson and Sowell overlap most clearly. Both men built their reputations refusing to let feelings override evidence, even when the evidence was deeply unpopular. Sowell did it with poverty statistics and immigration records. Peterson did it with psychological research and blunt philosophical honesty. Different fields, same backbone.

Individual Sovereignty Over Group Grievance

Peterson closes out the segment with a defense of individual sovereignty, arguing that free market principles built on that idea have lifted more people out of poverty than any government program in history. Everyone is doing better here than anybody has ever done on the face of the planet throughout recorded history, he says, and calling that a tyrannical patriarchy reflects a historical ignorance so profound it becomes indistinguishable from willful blindness.

That is Peterson at his sharpest, and it is the same conclusion Sowell reaches from an entirely different angle. Free people making free choices, judged as individuals rather than sorted into groups, is not oppression. It is the only system that has ever actually worked.

Get 64% off for 1 year

Citizen Watchdogs Force Action on State Fraud Networks

What kind of country are we living in if ordinary Americans have to track down the fraud that government and the press are refusing to acknowledge?

American First

This type of thing happens across many states. Regular American citizens have found out about scams that use tax dollars and erode confidence in voting and social services.

Nick Shirley recently posted all the ways he documented this happening to him, and his posting illustrates what happens when no one in authority wants to see anything.

How All Over America This Happens

Shirley used various states as examples of “coordinated” misdeeds (that no agency would call coordinated), where he showed how an area could contain a variety of different types of intentional misrepresentations of the truth and the submission of numerous false claims.

Each of these acts were part of a larger scheme. But, each time the public exposed it, the government would respond slowly, and always defensively.

It wasn’t until citizens presented some very powerful evidence (collected via FOIA and database searching) that they would finally allow them to testify during legislative hearings.

As citizens did all of the legwork, the system produced results. There were new bills created based on what they had discovered; and there was also additional momentum generated for similar actions elsewhere.

Other states were soon pressured into doing audits of their systems as well.

Why We Can’t Trust Them

All of this happened due to the predictable consequences of trusting our system to regulate itself. The press covers this selectively; focusing on the things that distract from reality, and ignoring real evidence which goes contrary to the prevailing narrative.

Therefore, it comes down to a decision for the public: believe what they tell us or find out the facts ourselves.

According to Shirley, individuals take up this task. Individuals fill the void that exists when captured institutions fail.

When those responsible for reporting the news and enforcing laws view fraud as a political annoyance instead of an attack on available resources, then those who want accountability must step up and do something.

An interesting point came out of this whole situation. The systems that were originally set-up to protect against such abuses, are currently rewarding those that take advantage of them.

Why?

Subscribe now

A conservative identifies the casual cruelty with which the left assaults the right, and the left responds not with acknowledgment -- but with rationalization.

This is not merely a single mistake. Rather, it is the operational code of a movement that views its opponents as morally inferior beings whose actions are unworthy of even minimal constraint.

Thus, such episodes reveal the deception. The exact individuals who labeled all forms of disagreement with the right as “hate,” “violent,” etc., have spent years branding large swaths of Americans as dangers to democracy, bigots, etc.

And when these targeted groups point out the Hypocrisy in this double standard — using evidence — their reaction is usually just more vitriol disguised as critique.

Civility as only one-sided expectation.

Subscribe now

He said plainly, “the public school system was set up by fascists on the Prussian military model,” adding without hesitation that the goal was to produce what he called “thoughtless worker drones.”

Become a paid subscriber for the full archive and early releases.

Subscribe now

That’s not a passing insult thrown out for effect. Peterson has made this argument repeatedly across interviews, and this conversation reinforces it with even sharper language than usual. The exchange continued with a rapid back and forth naming exactly what kind of drones the system was engineered to produce. Desk workers. Bureaucrats. Factory workers. Peterson even noted the etymology directly, pointing out that the word bureaucrat itself traces back to this exact function.

Why does a system originally built to manufacture obedient labor still shape how millions of children are educated today?

Both Totalitarian Threads Run Through the Same Root

Peterson’s fascist framing isn’t the only dark thread historians have traced back to the Prussian model’s origins. The system’s own architects described it in terms that sound just as authoritarian from the opposite ideological direction. Early accounts of the Prussian reforms describe the model as carrying what one historical analysis called a “Democratic and State-Socialist element,” built directly into its founding design by the philosopher Fichte, who envisioned schooling as a tool for molding the population toward the state’s collective purposes rather than the individual’s own.

That’s the uncomfortable overlap Peterson’s critique points toward, whether he uses the word explicitly in a given conversation or not. Fascist and socialist regimes rarely agree on much, but both have historically converged on the same instinct when it comes to education: a centralized system built to produce compliant citizens serves either ideology equally well. The label on the ruling philosophy changes. The mechanism for producing obedience doesn’t.

The Industrial Logic Behind the Classroom

Peterson doesn’t dismiss the entire premise of industrial era schooling outright. He acknowledged in this conversation that training a workforce for an industrializing economy wasn’t inherently unreasonable given the moment in history. Countries needed workers who could show up, follow instructions, and perform repetitive tasks reliably. That much, Peterson conceded, made a kind of practical sense at the time.

But here’s where his argument sharpens into something far more damning. Peterson identified what he sees as the real cost buried underneath that industrial logic, the part nobody wants to examine closely. He explained that sitting right beneath the goal of producing reliable workers was a second, quieter objective: actively suppressing anything resembling creative entrepreneurship in the students moving through the system.

That’s the sharp distinction Peterson keeps returning to across his public commentary on education. It’s not simply that schools failed to cultivate creativity by accident, through underfunding or bureaucratic inertia. Peterson argues the suppression was closer to the point. A population trained to follow orders efficiently doesn’t need to be taught how to question the orders themselves, and a system built around obedience has little use for students who might grow up to challenge it.

A Pattern Peterson Has Documented for Years

This wasn’t an offhand remark made in the heat of a single conversation. Peterson has built this argument out repeatedly, in interviews specifically dedicated to examining education reform, and it consistently traces back to the same historical thread: the Prussian model of universal schooling, adopted broadly across Western nations in the late nineteenth century as industrialization accelerated.

Peterson has framed the consequences of that origin as still visible today, arguing that modern schools continue functioning less like institutions built to develop independent thinkers and more like systems optimized for compliance. Sit still. Follow the schedule. Wait for permission. Those are the actual skills a Prussian-modeled system was built to instill, and Peterson contends those same instincts still get rewarded in classrooms generations after the original military logic that inspired them.

Here’s the sharp point that deserves serious consideration rather than dismissal. If the foundational architecture of a system was built to produce compliant labor rather than independent thought, why would anyone assume that architecture naturally evolved into something designed to cultivate the opposite?

What This Means for Parents Right Now

Peterson’s critique isn’t purely historical or academic. He’s connected this argument directly to the modern push for school choice and alternative education models, arguing that parents deserve options outside a system whose founding purpose was never actually centered on their child’s individual potential. If the underlying structure was built to standardize and suppress rather than cultivate, Peterson suggests, then reform efforts that simply tinker around the edges of that structure are unlikely to address the deeper problem.

That’s a challenging conclusion for anyone who assumes public education, whatever its flaws, is at least fundamentally oriented toward the child’s benefit. Peterson’s argument asks parents to consider something more uncomfortable: that some of the friction their children experience in traditional schooling, the boredom, the resistance to rigid schedules, the creative instincts that get quietly discouraged, might not be a bug in the system at all. It might be exactly what the system was built to do.

How many genuinely creative, entrepreneurial minds has a century and a half of a system built on both fascist and state-socialist instincts quietly filtered out before they ever had the chance to develop?

Jordan Peterson Never Said What the Headlines Claimed. That’s actually why monogamy emerges.”

The New York Times ran with a profile calling Peterson the “custodian of the patriarchy,” framing the comment as though he were proposing some kind of government-mandated redistribution of women to violent men. That characterization spread across social media within hours, and it wasn’t remotely what Peterson had actually argued.

Why does a nuanced anthropological point about social structure keep getting flattened into the most inflammatory possible reading available?

What Peterson Actually Meant, in His Own Words

Peterson addressed the distortion directly in a lengthy response, laying out the actual anthropological basis for his comment rather than backing away from it. He explained that it’s been a settled point among anthropologists and biologically oriented psychologists for decades that every human society faces two central tasks: regulating reproduction and controlling male aggression. Socially enforced monogamy, meaning cultural norms and social pressure rather than legal mandate, has historically functioned as one of the most effective tools for addressing both problems simultaneously.

That’s a genuinely different claim than the one attributed to him. Peterson wasn’t arguing that society should assign women to violent men to prevent future attacks. He was arguing that cultures with strong social norms around monogamous pairing tend to produce fewer high-status men monopolizing large numbers of partners, which historically correlates with lower rates of male violence overall. The mechanism he described was social pressure and cultural expectation, not policy or coercion.

Here’s the sharp point worth sitting with. Peterson’s actual argument was a critique of unrestrained status-based mating hierarchies, the very dynamic where a small number of men accumulate outsized romantic attention while larger numbers of men are left with none. That’s not a defense of patriarchy. It’s closer to an argument that certain forms of social structure protect against exactly the kind of male rage and violence Minassian represented.

The Deeper Argument Feminist Critics Sidestepped

What makes this controversy relevant to a broader critique of modern feminism isn’t just the media distortion. It’s what happened in the substantive disagreement that followed. Critics on the left pushed back by arguing that monogamy had actually increased since the 1970s even as incel violence emerged, suggesting Peterson’s framework couldn’t explain the phenomenon he was describing.

That’s a fair empirical challenge, and Peterson never fully resolved it in his public responses. But the critics’ own explanation reveals the blind spot Peterson was gesturing toward in the first place. Their answer treated incel violence purely as a “misogynist backlash against feminist change,” a framework that explains the violence entirely through ideology rather than considering whether any actual social or structural conditions, isolation, status competition, changing mating patterns, might be contributing factors alongside ideology.

Isn’t that exactly the kind of oversimplification Peterson has spent his career warning about, reducing a complex social phenomenon to a single morally satisfying narrative rather than examining the underlying mechanics?

A Pattern That Extends Beyond One Controversy

What the enforced monogamy episode reveals about modern feminist commentary is a consistent unwillingness to engage with arguments about male social dynamics on their own terms. Peterson wasn’t defending incels. His own comment implicitly criticized their worldview, describing monogamy as the actual cure for the rage that produced Minassian’s violence, not a validation of it.

Yet the response treated any attempt to explain male alienation through social or anthropological terms as inherently suspect, something to be discredited through mockery rather than engaged with directly. That reflex, treating explanation as endorsement whenever the subject is male frustration or male violence, is precisely the pattern Peterson has spent years arguing prevents any honest conversation about what’s actually driving young men toward isolation and radicalization in the first place.

The controversy blew over in the news cycle within a week. The underlying question Peterson was actually trying to raise, about what social structures either mitigate or accelerate male alienation, never really got answered by his critics. It got dismissed instead, which may be the more revealing outcome of the entire episode.

Fathers Matter: Don't Let the Leftists Fool You

Jordan Peterson Has Spent a Career Making One Argument Nobody Wants to Hear: Fathers Are Not Optional

America Reborn

Not a bonus. Not an accessory to a mother’s love. Peterson has built an entire body of work around a claim that sounds obvious until you look at how completely modern culture has abandoned it.

Jordan Peterson has said a lot of things that made headlines for the wrong reasons. But underneath the controversy sits an argument he has never backed away from, one that is almost embarrassingly simple and yet somehow still radical to say out loud. Fathers matter. Not symbolically. Not as a nice-to-have. Structurally, psychologically, and in ways that show up in crime statistics, school performance, and the mental health of an entire generation.

Become a paid subscriber for the full archive and early releases.

Peterson has put the stakes of this argument in some of the starkest terms he’s ever used. “All the responsibility you abdicate will be taken up by tyrants.” That line wasn’t written specifically about fatherhood, but Peterson has applied it directly to men who walk away from the role, arguing that the vacuum a father leaves behind never simply stays empty. Something always moves in to fill it, and it’s rarely something good.

What exactly is filling that vacuum in millions of homes across the country right now?

The Argument Nobody Wants to Say Out Loud

Peterson’s position on fatherhood grew directly out of his clinical work, not out of a culture war talking point. As a practicing psychologist, he spent decades sitting across from patients whose lives had been shaped by absence, and he became convinced that the modern instinct to treat fathers as interchangeable with mothers, or worse, as unnecessary altogether, was a catastrophic mistake dressed up as progress.

He’s been blunt about the mechanism. Fathers, in Peterson’s framework, represent something distinct from maternal care. Mothers provide unconditional comfort and protection, the foundation a child needs to feel safe in the world. Fathers provide something different but equally essential: structure, discipline, and the push out of the nest into a world that will not always be kind. Peterson has argued that a child raised without that second force doesn’t simply get less parenting. They get an incomplete one, missing a piece that no amount of extra love from the other parent can fully substitute.

He put the logic plainly in 12 Rules for Life, writing that you can discipline your children yourself, or you can hand that responsibility over to a world that will discipline them without any of the love attached. That’s not a minor stylistic preference between parenting philosophies. That’s Peterson describing what happens when structure disappears from a child’s life entirely, and it’s rarely gentle when the world delivers that lesson instead of a parent.

The Data Behind the Conviction

Peterson doesn’t rest this argument purely on clinical intuition either. He’s pointed repeatedly to a body of research showing just how measurable the consequences of father absence really are. Children raised without present fathers show higher rates of school disengagement, weaker relationships with teachers, and lower academic performance on average. The pattern extends into adolescence and beyond, showing up in elevated rates of substance use, earlier onset of risky behavior, and diminished capacity to form stable relationships later in life.

The criminal justice data is even harder to look away from. Researchers and youth justice workers who have spent years inside detention systems have repeatedly observed the same pattern Peterson has spent his career highlighting. Youth justice board member Dr. Tony Sewell, reflecting on years of work with young offenders, put it in terms that echo Peterson’s argument almost exactly, noting that boy after boy in the system traced their troubles back to the moment their father left, or to a father they’d never known at all.

Here’s the sharp truth that Peterson keeps returning to, and it’s one that cuts against decades of cultural messaging. The absence of a father isn’t a neutral variable in a child’s development. It’s one of the single most predictive factors for the outcomes society claims to care most about preventing, from youth violence to addiction to the quiet, invisible collapse of a young person’s sense of purpose.

Structure as an Act of Love, Not Cruelty

What separates Peterson’s argument from a simple call for stricter parenting is his insistence that discipline and love are not opposites. He’s warned fathers against two equally damaging failure modes. One is total absence, physical or emotional, a father who is present in the house but checked out of the actual work of raising a child. The other is a father who swings too far in the opposite direction, becoming so controlling and judgmental that he crushes the very confidence he was supposed to be building.

Peterson has described the right posture as something closer to a demanding ally than either a permissive friend or a domineering authority figure. A good father, in his framing, sets standards high enough that a child has something worth striving toward, while remaining unmistakably on that child’s side through every failure along the way. That’s a much harder balance to strike than simply being present or simply being strict, and Peterson has never pretended otherwise.

He’s also been clear that this isn’t just a private family matter with no broader consequence. Peterson has connected the collapse of fatherhood directly to some of the largest cultural fractures of the last several decades, arguing that a generation of young men raised without a clear model of responsible masculinity is a generation more vulnerable to resentment, isolation, and the kind of ideological extremism that fills the space where guidance used to be.

Why This Argument Refuses to Go Away

Critics have spent years trying to dismiss Peterson’s focus on fatherhood as nostalgia for a bygone social order, or worse, as thinly veiled hostility toward single mothers doing their best under difficult circumstances. That criticism misses the actual shape of his argument. Peterson has never claimed single mothers fail their children. He’s argued something narrower and, in some ways, more uncomfortable: that a father’s absence is a real loss, not a neutral rearrangement of family structure, and that pretending otherwise doesn’t protect children. It just leaves the problem unaddressed while everyone agrees not to mention it.

That’s ultimately the core of why this argument has proven so durable, despite years of attempts to move past it. Peterson isn’t asking anyone to romanticize a particular decade or family model. He’s asking a much simpler question, one that data keeps answering the same way no matter how many times it gets asked. When a father disappears from a child’s life, something measurable disappears with him. Peterson has spent a career insisting that society stop pretending it doesn’t.

Conservatives Shoulder Burdens While Liberals Embrace The interview is remembered today mostly for a meme, Newman’s repeated phrase “so you’re saying,” used to mischaracterize nearly everything Peterson said back into a more extreme version of itself. But underneath the meme was a serious argument Peterson made that deserves more attention than the joke it spawned.

Peterson explained plainly why he spends so much time discussing hierarchy in nature, including his famous references to lobsters. He said it directly: there’s a widespread idea that hierarchical structures are simply “a sociological construct of the Western patriarchy,” and he called that claim “so untrue that it’s almost unbelievable.” His point wasn’t about crustaceans for their own sake. It was that hierarchy predates humanity, predates capitalism, and predates every ideology claiming to have invented oppression. If dominance hierarchies show up in species separated from humans by hundreds of millions of years of evolution, they can’t simply be a modern feminist myth about Western civilization specifically.

Why did an argument this straightforward require fifty million views and a viral meme before it actually got heard?

The Deeper Argument Beneath the Meme

Peterson’s disagreement with mainstream feminist theory goes well beyond hierarchy alone. He’s been direct about rejecting one of the movement’s foundational historical claims, stating flatly that the idea women were oppressed throughout all of history is, in his words, “an appalling theory.” That’s not a dismissal of the real struggles women have faced throughout history. It’s a rejection of the specific claim that history can be reduced to a single continuous narrative of patriarchal domination, a framework Peterson argues flattens enormous complexity into a simplistic morality tale.

He’s also been candid about what he sees as feminism’s damaging effect on young men specifically. Peterson has described how a certain strain of modern feminist and social justice rhetoric tells young men they’re inherently “patriarchal oppressors and denizens of rape culture and tyrants in-waiting,” language he’s said fails to distinguish between a young man’s competence and some inherited collective guilt. Peterson has called that message not just inaccurate, but genuinely destructive to an entire generation of young men already struggling to find purpose and direction.

Here’s the sharp observation worth sitting with. Peterson isn’t arguing that inequality or historical injustice never existed. He’s arguing that reducing all of human social organization to a single oppressor-oppressed framework, whether applied to hierarchy in general or to relations between men and women specifically, oversimplifies reality to the point of becoming actively misleading.

Why the Argument Keeps Resurfacing

Peterson’s critique of feminism has never been about denying that women faced real historical obstacles. It’s been about challenging the theoretical framework increasingly used to interpret every modern social interaction, one he argues treats hierarchy, competence, and disagreement themselves as inherently oppressive rather than as natural features of any functioning society.

That distinction is exactly why the Cathy Newman interview still gets referenced years later. It wasn’t really a debate about lobsters. It was a demonstration of what happens when a complex, evidence-based argument gets repeatedly flattened into a simpler, more extreme version by an interviewer determined to prove a predetermined point. Peterson calmly refused to accept the flattened version of his own argument, over and over, and audiences noticed.

That same tension runs through the broader debate over modern feminism happening across plenty of other voices right now, including the range of commentators featured in the compilation video above. Different arguments, different audiences, but the same underlying question Peterson raised back in 2018: whether complex social reality can be honestly reduced to a single story about oppression, or whether that framework itself has become the thing standing in the way of an honest conversation.

Do you think modern feminism has flattened a complex reality into an oversimplified story of oppression? What's your reaction?

Jordan Peterson Spent Years Dismantling the Communist Manifesto Line by Line, and It’s More Relevant Than Ever

Long before socialism became fashionable again in American politics, Peterson sat down with the actual text and found something almost nobody expected: the argument falls apart on its own terms.

America Reborn

Long before socialism became fashionable again in American politics, Peterson sat down with the actual text and found something almost nobody expected: the argument falls apart on its own terms.

Jordan Peterson didn’t wait for socialism to become trendy in American politics before taking it apart. He went straight to the source material years ago, and what he found should worry anyone cheering on the current wave of self-described democratic socialists now winning elections across the country.

During his widely watched 2019 debate with Marxist philosopher Slavoj Žižek in Toronto, Peterson didn’t rely on vague ideological talking points. He opened with a direct textual critique of The Communist Manifesto itself, and his verdict was blunt. He told the audience, “I’ve rarely read a tract that made as many errors per sentence as the Communist Manifesto.”

Become a paid subscriber for the full archive and early releases.

Subscribe now

That’s not a throwaway insult from a man looking for a viral clip. Peterson backed it up by walking through roughly ten specific axioms baked into Marx’s foundational text, arguing each one collapses under basic scrutiny.

Why does a document with that many fundamental flaws keep getting handed to a new generation of politicians as though it were settled truth?

The Core Flaw Peterson Keeps Returning To

Peterson’s central objection to the Manifesto isn’t a minor technical quibble. He argues Marx reduced the entirety of human history to a single binary struggle between an oppressed proletariat and an evil bourgeoisie, treating one group as purely virtuous and the other as purely corrupt. Peterson has called that exactly what it is: classic tribalism dressed up as economic theory.

He didn’t stop at diagnosing the problem either. Peterson pointed out the fatal flaw in what comes next, the idea that a so-called dictatorship of the proletariat would somehow avoid the corruption that concentrated power always produces. History already answered that question, and not kindly. The people who rise to the top of any revolutionary hierarchy, Peterson argues, are rarely the selfless heroes the ideology promises. They’re often simply the next version of whoever was in charge before.

Here’s the sharp point Peterson keeps making that deserves more attention. He argues that hierarchical structures didn’t originate with capitalism at all. They predate capitalism, and they predate humanity itself. Tearing down one hierarchy in the name of equality, Peterson warns, doesn’t eliminate hierarchy. It just replaces the old one with a new one, usually run by people even less accountable than before.

The Numbers Peterson Says the Left Won’t Discuss

Peterson doesn’t just fight this battle on philosophical grounds. He leans on hard data that he argues gets conveniently ignored in the socialism debate. He’s pointed out that the global rate of absolute poverty fell by roughly fifty percent between 2000 and 2012 alone, a staggering improvement in human welfare that took place precisely as more of the world embraced market economies rather than centralized planning.

That’s not a coincidence Peterson treats lightly. While socialism keeps rebranding itself for each new generation, promising to finally get it right this time, the actual data on global poverty reduction tells a very different story about which system produces results.

Isn’t it worth asking why the ideology with the most documented track record of failure keeps getting a fresh coat of paint every twenty years instead of getting retired for good?

A Warning That Applies Directly to Today’s Democratic Party

Peterson has also been candid about why socialism keeps finding new believers despite its track record. He’s explained that the appeal isn’t really about economics at all. It draws on genuine human compassion, a real and admirable instinct that gets hijacked by an ideology promising to solve inequality through government control rather than earned prosperity.

That psychological insight matters enormously right now. The same democratic socialist movement Peterson has spent years critiquing philosophically has produced real political victories in 2026, from Zohran Mamdani’s mayoralty in New York City to a wave of Democratic Socialists of America backed candidates winning primaries nationwide, with figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez standing directly behind that movement’s momentum.

Peterson’s critique was never really about one politician or one election cycle. It was about the underlying ideas these politicians keep recycling, the same axioms he picked apart line by line years before any of them held office. The Manifesto’s errors didn’t disappear just because the movement found new spokespeople and softer branding.

The Argument That Still Hasn’t Been Answered

What makes Peterson’s critique so durable is that his opponents have spent years attacking his credentials and his tone without ever fully dismantling the substance of his ten core objections. Critics have called his analysis incomplete or accused him of misunderstanding Marxism’s broader body of work. What they haven’t done is explain away the basic contradiction Peterson identified from the start, that an ideology built on eliminating hierarchy inevitably produces a new hierarchy, usually a more dangerous one than the last.

That contradiction didn’t disappear because a new generation of politicians started using friendlier language about equity and collective action instead of revolution. The same fundamental problems Peterson diagnosed in a nineteenth century pamphlet are still sitting underneath every modern promise to finally make socialism work this time.

How many more election cycles will it take before voters ask the same question Peterson asked years ago: is any of this actually true, or does it just feel good to believe?

Peterson’s Rules Cut Through the Absurdity When Everything Falls Apart

Jordan Peterson’s Rules are rules such as standing tall (shoulders back), taking responsibility and striving to do the right thing.

The author made direct connections between those three specific rules and the ability to pull order from chaos versus allowing oneself to be consumed by chaos.

The blunt reminder has an added kick of irony because of how much nonsense modern life continues to serve us with day after day and still expects us to accept all of it as if it makes perfect sense.

Why is Peterson’s work so important?

I was able to cut through the noise using Dr. Peterson’s words to demonstrate his argument that the true purpose of life is to take upon yourself the heaviest burden you possibly can.

\No, this is not a gentle nudge towards self care. This is a direct attack on the entitled mind-set that currently defines modern public discourse.
