Now that I think about it, I’ve been here before, at a “low point” in my career.

My first real job out of college - I was a receptionist for about a month before finding a job in the fast growing industry of Advertising Technology.

(Low) Once I got there my manager had a small vision for me. She wasn’t malicious like some of those that were coming soon but it was super annoying. She never gave me any opportunities and squashed every attempt at growth that I had.

• (Clap back) I saw a job opening in another city that allowed me to change departments and up and left her team.

(Low) Once I got in this new sales role, in a new city, I had a leader who had it out for me. I couldn’t understand it, I was still so niave that it really hurt. He was so hateful that I kind of blacked that whole part of my career out.

• (Clap back) My next job was the most fun ever and was quickly acquired by Google. The craziest 9 months ever.

(Low) For a decent amount of time at Google, I had a terrible time adjusting and ended up on performance plans because there was a performance curve and someone had to be the scapegoat and it was more than once me. And to be fair, it took me a while to learn the big corporate game.

• (Clap back) Before I left Google, I was on a very elite team preparing highly-confidential work for the C-Suite.

(Low) I interviewed several dozen times for a start-up role in consumer the whole time I was at Google and never got one.

• (Clap back) An executive coach leaked to me that there are many companies that want my background. I called her back the next day and asked what she meant by that? It was Starface.

(Low) A woman quit in my face once she realized I was about to run Starface.

• (Clap back) The business and internal cultural speak for themselves there.

My current career point isn’t quite a low but I definitely won’t describe it as a high. (Ok fine it is a bit low haha)

How can I approach this with the same…. lightness? Ingenuity? Inner knowing?

It’s almost like I know too much now. I’ve seen a new peak to my game. I know my power - both to manifest what I want and to create a huge high-vibe kickass business. I’m way more plugged into the metaphysical laws that create the experiences you want, and yet I’m still pretty flabbergasted (not in a good way) on a regular basis.

When you’re at the bottom of your personal spiral, what do you lean on?

Here is what this new phase of life is asking me — hope its helpful to you —

1. Trust. Where are you waiting for permission to step into a new version of yourself? What can you create with what is available to you today?

   1. I guess I did try to create my escape route from these low points before and it never really worked. The escape route came on its own time. I had to be ready and available, but I didn’t force it.

2. Don’t rush the process of transforming into this new version of yourself. Are you over-planning or over-doing anything in order to control the outcome? Slowing down to allow each moment to speak for itself has been one of my most powerful tools.

   1. Most of us are taught that productivity, the act of moving forward in life, is one of the most important things of all. It does feel SOOO good but I’d argue that 70% of the time its busy work that we’re doing to satisfy that unseen cultural acceptance of up-and-to-the-right.

3. Are you trying to force that one door to open? And missing all the windows and escape routes that keep trying to get your attention?

4. We’re all gonna die. Where is it all feeling too serious?

   1. I had to throw this in, because sometimes it feels so HUGE and HORRIBLE and WOE-IS-ME. But babe, this lifetime is a quick run. How will you live your one wild and precious life?

Here I am again, becoming a whole new version of myself.

I haven’t felt this way since I was promoted to President of Starface and needed to fully become that woman, slowly transforming into a different version of myself that was bigger and braver and so awesome.

I’m sharing how I’m handling this, just in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation —

Socially: Hermit Era

I’m protective as hell of this current space I’m in.

I’m really only talking and socializing with people who get me and/or who get the essence of what i’m up to. While New Juice Studios is growing and getting its baby legs under it, it’s lame for me to spend a lot of time answering people’s questions about what, how, who, when, etc etc etc. They are valid questions but they’re just wack and boring.

People are very linear and need to ground things in what they can see and feel. I am the exact opposite. Nothing about me is linear and I exist best in the world people can’t see yet. Neither is good or bad but I need to operate from my sweet spot right now.

It goes without saying but I have not been on social media much. I want all ideas and vibes to come from myself not from the algorithm. You’d think this would be dumb for business, which yea it is. But also! When I do post, it’s so real and true and that’s when the best responses come my way.

I haven’t been drinking or smoking much lately because I want to feel clearer. Gosh, all of this sounds so fucking boring doesn’t it? I think i’m reaching the end. I definitely need a party.

Anyone in Cannes at the end of the month and want a drink?

Spiritually: We’re out here!

If you’re new here, hi, I was the girl reading A NEW EARTH by ECKHART TOLLE in highschool with my friends. I learned about Bhuddism from my childhood nanny, and was instantly intrigued. I’ve been on this. And lately I’ve been called to see where else this path can go.

Ultimately I want to become the most powerful version of myself. And that includes fine tuning all of my unique gifts. And several of my unique gifts include a connection to a world-unseen. I don’t have a name for this yet but call it intuition, knowing, gut feeling…

Now that my days aren’t spent on back to back zoom calls, I’ve been reading all kinds of crazy ass books that make me feel a little uncomfortable.

I’ve been reading about the world that was ruled by woman before organized religion came into play, the science of our energy field and how to leverage it to get clarity and make things happen. I’ve been reading about the magic of sex, the chakras, ancient practices of the American South, herbs and their ancient purposes, protective energy affirmations. Listening and learning about spirit guides and finding out who mind are.

You name it, I’m learning and I’m taking what works and leaving the rest. All of this makes astrology look like child’s play and WOWOWOWOWOOWWO yall.

And yes, I did my first big girl psychedelic journey after 25 years of this. And it taught me so much about myself and was just a ton of fun.

Mindset: Allowing this to be the beginning

We are officially in roll-out season of our first two productions and I am so excited to learn and grow in this process.

Beginnings are tricky, and you (I) need to protect the purity of that before all of the worlds opinions come rushing in.

The problem is, my beginnings are on the internet.

As our first couple of episodes are released, here is what I know to be true:

1. I am not building anything for the algorithm.

   To really lock in and watch something meaningful on your phone is new behavior. It’s so tempting to manipulate the content to make it work better for the algorithm but I don’t want to. I’m not saying that we can’t improve on 1000203123 things but making it more clickbaity is not my goal.

3. MANMADE makes my nervous system feel good while also introducing me to a different view of humanity.

   When I can’t put down my phone because I’m too bored and I decide to watch MANMADE, it’s like watching a rerun of Friends or something. It’s soothing to my nervous system but at the same time, I’m taken out of my bubble of the same people and conversations. #goals.

So, for that, regardless of what anyone else says. We get an A+ for our first swing at bat.

1. I miss the practice of sitting down to digest my thoughts, and then sharing them on the internet. It felt like shit when no one responded but now I realize this practice was mostly for me and I miss doing it.

While the vision for New Juice was forming I was glitching internally at the thought of raising any capital.

The vision was so pure - the boom in shiity AI content, the rise of storytelling as every brands new thing, the fall of almost every major media company, the insane talent that is out-of-or-under-worked right now, the rise of people actually wanting to feel something, learn and grow but not be preached to.

I didn’t necessarily want to be caught in a growth at all costs flywheel.

But this vision became too real. It’s big. and It needed Juice to get out to as many people as it possible can.

So here I am fundraising

Bootstrapping something would have been cute but it wouldn’t have given the vision legs to reach the right people, the ability to test and learn, and bring on the best collaborators.

I built a culturally rich and financially successful business once, I can do it again.

So here I am in the belly of the beast.

Having been an important part of a few fundraising processes, I thought I knew something.

I knew very little.

There are a ton of parallels between raising money and channeling the future you want to create for yourself and others.

It’s a spiritual, psychological, absolute mental mind game and you know I love those.

When I started this process, I thought I’d raise from Family Offices and High Net Worth Individuals - people who, in my head, would be more aligned with the pace, values, and vision of what I’m building.

But the truth is, most of my actual network is in Venture Capital. And it’s not just about who I know, it’s the people who know me. Who saw what I built at Starface and who already understand the nuance and brilliance of my work.

I almost forgot we all have to lean on the strategic advantages we’re given.

One of my advantages is that I have an amazing network and many people are ready and willing to help me but I realized I didn’t necessarily know how to receive.

Are you ready to receive the support that’s already there?

Do you feel like everything needs to feel like a transaction?

I feel like a child again

I’ve made a bunch of mistakes already.

i came into January thinking that my word was “focus” and any conversation that wasn’t directly related to me raising capital for New Juice needed to be punted.

DUMB!

every conversation is helpful right now. one conversation can lead to another, can lead to an interesting insight into how to make this thing pop.

few conversations lead directly to a check but its about my ability to connect the dots between what people are saying. it’s about practicing putting my vision out into the world.

i’m very good at this. what one person said about advertising helps me think about how a producer failed at his first vertical series.

but guess what?

i totally screwed up.

i was supposed to have a coffee with a close connection but deprioritized it because i didn’t think it was in my “direct focus area”. i missed an opportunity to learn, get advice, and ultimately they wrote a check in a competitors business even though i had NO idea they cared about media.

Yikes.

A set of experiments

i was having drinks with co-founders of billion dollar venture capital firms and they all shared their stories of how many companies they’ve built and failed.

one dude gave me some unsolicited advice -

“i started to think about every aspect of this process as an experiment. the business, the calls…everything.”

it takes the weight off and makes it like a game.

each time i meet someone new or go into a pitch its about an experiment between this moment and my dream.

I’ve learned a lot in the past few weeks - about fundraising, about people, and about myself. Behind the paywall, I’m sharing:

or that your mom is really proud of that big job you have, but you’ve been over it.

people, you don’t need permission anymore.

you don’t need permission to go do what you know you want to do.

that uncomfortable feeling in the beginning? totally normal.

this is permission to start. permission to keep going. permission to take up big space.

permission to be seen trying.

to stop rationalizing everything. it’s keeping you stuck.

you’re waiting to take action but for what? you’re prepared.

the path opens as you start to walk it.

you’re smart. you’ve done the work. its go time.

perfectionism has been dead.

we’ve been over that.

doing what it is you want to do, is a radical act of loving this one life

our life truly is an expression of our deepest desires.

what’s yours saying right now?

what is the greatest expression of yourself today?

Ok so this is what happens when you start to listen even closer to yourself

• first your brain will revolt, saying, “no!!! thats a dumb idea!!! that doesn’t make any sense.”

• then you will find 100000 ways why it doesn’t make sense (i saw this one person fail, i need to save more money, but that person looks dumb…)

• but then you remember, how much you want it or how you’ve had this same vision since you were a kid…

• so you decide to try a small version of the thing.

• and boy that will feel good.

• then something will come out of the blue, reinforcing how good it felt.

• then you will do it again, consistently.

• even when you didn’t know the next step, it came.

• and then you look back and you can’t believe how far you’ve come.

• now you are so proud of yourself, you believe you can do anything.

this is permission to go after it.

There are a couple of new people here 🤍 and I wanted to give us all a refresher of what you can expect from this weekly Sunday newsletter.

First of all, I do have to say that “Target Market’s” feel a bit archaic to me personally. A concept that I think is dying and is mostly used to please investors, TV sales people, or put in a digital ad campaign.

But whatever. Who do I probably resonate with most?

• Offering up how I think about things which usually offer different perspectives to mundane topics. I write a lot about what I’m digesting all week and hoping some of it entertains, informs, or inspires all of us to be the curious and interesting people we can be.

• “Building out loud” because it helps me process this founder journey but ultimate connects many of my interests that it seems are helpful to others — mindset, spirituality, making money with integrity, taking risks, being a mom, creative inspiration.

Today’s newsletter is a reflection of a big question —

“What is my role at this point in history?”

Over the past 5 years I have had 3 different vantage points of watching horrific things happening in real life play out online —

1. The Brand President

Early at Starface, I became the go-to to help the company think about how we responded online to hate crimes happening across the United States. I needed to grapple with questions like -

What is a very online, culturally in tune brand’s role to play during political turmoil?

How do we show up for our audience, which is largely being adversely affected right now?

Is it important to signal our commitment to the causes we care about every time a tragedy happens?

Ultimately, we did and I am proud of us but it was exhausting for all of us, and for me specifically. Exhausting is ok but I’m just saying.

2. Everyday Person Who Cares

Last year, I was a normal person passively absorbing the news while actively thinking about how I could help. People’s homes were burning down and all I could do was give money.

Over the course of the year I became dear friends with true activists and abolitionists, artists who were pouring their pain into poetry. I was so inspired but also probably felt like… guilty? shallow? That I needed to do my part too. I wasn’t interested in sitting on the sidelines but I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be doing.

And this is where I left myself.

I will not suffocate by trying to stay super informed.

I will not watch the news or consume most video content aimed to sensationalize the pain. When I want to learn, I will talk to other people or I will read.

I will admire my activist friends and ask how I can support but feel no pressure that this is my specific calling.

I will go out of my way to talk to people in different social classes, in different religious groups. I will not retreat into the safety of one community.

I will live and build towards all of my wildest dreams, paying attention as they come and change, for this is the ultimate revolution against any oppressive system. (in my opinion)

I will actively become a better person and participant to myself, to my loved ones, and to any communities I find myself.

I will bring my truth. I will tell stories that illuminate the nuances and the beauty of this life as I see it.

I will bring the light whenever I have it.

2. Founder Growing an Online Presence.

   Today I am actively building my business and my personal brand online. My voice is clear and I am finally having fun being online without overthinking it too much.

   but now im talking about Entertainment and making short form TV series while the rest of the world suffers?

   Yes. Yes I am. And you know why? My work is giving opportunities to people. My dreams are inspiring many in despair to shine their gifts brighter, I know because they tell me.

   But I come back to the work I’ve done over the years. This is my role in the revolution. My Say It Out Loud Podcast. Starting my lifelong dream company New Juice Studios. Sharing what I learn and what I know and what I don’t know. Loving on myself. Loving on others.

What we pay attention to, what we say No to and what we double down on in 2026 will be important.

It seems that there will be a lot of transformation this year and what we focus on will matter a lot.

Honestly I was overwhelmed by all of the reflect and prepare content this year so I debated if I wanted to contribute. I pretty much shut my brain off which made me very uncomfortable. Like all of the momentum that’s been building in and around me is gone.

But come on, Kara??

What was all that work you did if not to remind yourself that with the right intentions, consistency, mindset, and relationships, everything will come together.

So here we are, back in the saddle, sharing things that I stumble upon and think about in hopes that it serves you.

Watching

I love my Masterclass membership and use it regularly. On my self-imposed slow Fridays or other times when I’m procrastinating but still want to feel productive, it’s perfect. This break I watched Kim K’s, and while I’m not naturally a huge fan, it’s undeniable, her genius. I certainly got some tips on being one consistent brand for people to digest. Something I need to work on for sure.

The Holdovers was awesome!! For my new media company, New Juice Studios, I want to make content that speaks to boys. I’m not sure if what I’m being fed about “young men being depressed, etc etc” is true but I buy it. I also have a son and a husband who I care about deeply. I fell in love with characters I didn’t want to and it was such a lovely coming of age story.

Speaking of, if you like independent movies, I learned that Metrograph has a Watch Now feature. I watched a cute little french movie on my phone in 10 minute increments. Highly Recommend. [Shameless plug for upcoming New Juice content]

Spirituality

Guided by the unseen is now and forever a part of my process. I paid for Nadine’s 2026 Astrology reading and she has you focus on your rising sign. For me it’s a nice tool to have in my toolkit to think about what’s happening with the planets and how it might affect me.

I’m not sure if you’re tapped into this or the Year of the Horse that is coming our way on February 17th but it appears 2026 will reward the intentional.

Over break I finished The Wayfinders book and listened to (some of) Lex Fridman’s episode on Ancient Civilizations. This shit is so interesting to me. Do you understand how much wisdom there was/is all over the world that we’ve replaced with our very recent modern way of life? AND the wisdom that has made it to us is only from a select few who were able to get their messages past all the hurdles (people systematically removing work that went against the grain, etc etc etc). I can’t get enough.

Playing

On New Years Eve, I went to a kid and parent party at a friends house in CT. We played this old ass game and it was the most fun. I’m definitely buying it. I love board games. I used to make them a lot when i was a kid. Should I make one again…

Alright, now we’re back and its focus season.

Focus is big 2026 word for me. Checking leaky energy. Intentionally stepping into each day.

Ok! Here’s how its been going this week:

Listening

I know I’ve mentioned this before but I turn to voices and practices that ground me when I’m feeling super fired up. Building this business is bringing out my most energized, chaotic-in-a-good-way self so its important that I stay really spiritually grounded.

I also just want to back up for a second. For me spirituality means being connected to something bigger than me, or bigger than what we can see and touch and feel. Periodt.

At the beginning of this week it was Michael Beckwith’s podcast that was the calming voice in my ears.

Two points stuck out to me on his latest episodes:

• What if your top was actually the bottom of your potential?

  • I love this so much. It’s how I feel. Starface was/is a dream job. But I know that there is no ceiling for me.

• Like Astronauts we hold our own atmosphere and our only job is to control what we radiate.

Reading

Reading delightful fiction is also something that takes me out of my own universe and catapults me somewhere else. It’s so tempting for me to turn to non-fiction to learn and grow, etc, but sticking to fiction when I need grounding has always saved me.

This week I’m reading Salt Houses by . Whew, y’all. Her writing is pure poetry. I don’t know much about family dynamics in the Middle East so diving into that world is absolutely a treat.

Dreaming

My dreams have been off the chain honestly. I don’t even know what to say. It’s been annoying actually.

Also, my old coworker from 20 years ago DMed me and said he had a dream I needed his help with something. Which actually, I kind of do.

Eating

So I have a woman named Stefania that cooks for me and my family. I found her on craigslist during Covid times when the restaurant industry was cooked (ha, get it) and many chefs were out of work. She’s amazing, its amazing.

I’m on my “try to lower my cholesterol” diet and am eating a lot of beans. She made a version of this, and wow, yummerton.

Places

Monday was an ideal day for me - workout, meeting with a dope new advisor, then took a 10 minute bus to McNally Jackson and spent 2 hours there pulling references of ancient societies that might inspire my brand, the stories, and the IRL events around it. Dreamy

On Wednesday I took some meetings at Moss and tried out their new sauna, bathhouse and it was such a treat. It’s in Midtown which is not convenient nor fun for me but it is convenient for the lawyers, investors and advisors I’m meeting with!

If you’re in NYC and want to come with me one day, I’d happily take you. Especially if you’re a person who is silly but also likes to have deep conversations

Learning

I went to a lunch where i heard diplomacy expert - Mickey Bergman - speak. And WOW. Hearing from someone who has to deal with such high pressure stakes with so many different personalities was right up my alley. Here are some take aways.

• Take negotiation tips and apply it to your own personality. People can feel when you are trying to be someone you aren’t.

• Good/Evil exists in all of us and circumstances can bring out either one. Empathizing with a “bad” person, doesn’t mean you are honoring their behavior but it provides a productive floor to shift to another place.

• The diversity of personalities within a team in politics or otherwise is super important because you can deploy whichever one you need for the specific task at hand.

Giving

My giving looks a little different this year, less big checks and more 1:1 support. I bought coffee, hot chocolate, and lunch for three people who asked me for help on the street this week. That felt like something.

Me chatting, doing my thing

is a whole treat. I haven’t gotten to do a podcast where I’ve felt just so free and matched on my creative and spiritual realm. This was a fun one and it is really resonating with people!

This week’s episode of Say It Out Loud was with Rev Jacqui Lewis. I haven’t spent much time with Preachers/Ministers/Rabbi’s/etc but her take feels like a breath of fresh air for a population that feels disconnected from brave love. I think you’ll love it.

My Rampage Audio Note:

Do you know who Abraham Hicks is? Well, she does these “rampages” where she channels all of these beautiful positive feelings into audios that feel like momentum-in-a-bag. The goal is to shift your perspective and energy into the best possible thoughts you can muster.

I listen to some on YouTube when I need a kick. I keep wanting to make one. So f it. Here is one I recorded for myself and maybe you.

Socially

I needed to laugh more though. More laughing and being silly. I saw a bunch of friends this weekend, thank goodness. Otherwise it was just me and the kids and that SHIT WAS NOT FUNNY.

What’s !@(!#&!@# annoying is that just when I got clear on exactly what business I’m building, all the old demons and trash thoughts came roaring back.

Now I find myself mentally in the same place as I was back on the couch — talking to brilliant minds, exploring what it means to make brave decisions, and how those choices ripple through our lives and relationships.

Here are my takeaways:

First up, Episode 9 with Michael Ventura is all about empathy and bravely choosing paths that suit you. We touch on how rare it is these days to hear from a leader, “I don’t know the answer” and how transformative it is to build from that place.

These days my most helpful meditation on empathy is that empathy for yourself is the very first step. Ugh. This conversation feels like a cup of tea with an old friend.

“Kara, you’re doing something new, you’ve never done this before - how brave, how strong, how exciting.”

Episode 10 features Keren Eldad, a world-renowned coach who knows how to lovingly blow your mind. She’s gifted at helping you see how your own thoughts either support your dreams or quietly squash them. We unpack how easy it is to cling to judgment or security when what we really need is expansion.

I always turn to Keren to expand what I know to be possible. You’ll leave this conversation feeling like you can do anything.

“Kara - if you can dream it, it can become a reality. As you become friskier and friskier you take more risks, and babygirl, enjoy feeling frisky.”

Episode 11 with Content Creator and Author, Chad Sanders, was a reflection on what it means to be seen and what to do when your community doesn’t reflect your values. It was a reminder to me and my nervous system that it’s safe to be seen for who I truly am. If it’s not, whats the alternative? Pretend to be something I’m not?

It’s gonna be an interesting ride raising capital, leading from my own creative vision and organizing my personal view of the world through storytelling. I can’t hide behind a big job or someone else’s vision. I gotta buckle up but I’m ready for the ride.

Alright, how are y’all doing? I got a wisdom tooth out on Friday and I haven’t been able to do much of shit for the whole week and its been ok I guess.

Honestly, I have so much to pop off about I don’t even know where to start. I’m frozen in absolute knowledge and general wild shit to share. It’s too much.

2026 is the year I learn how to properly take every wild thought and wisdom I have and distill it for other people. I’m not there yet.

What was the vibe in January?

• What was your intention for the year? Did you have one? How’s that going?

• What stuff were you doing in January? How did you feel doing it? Is that the same vibe in November 2025?

Who made you feel the best?

Who nurtured the greatest, most intimate parts of you. Are you spending enough time with them? Who do you want to attract in 2026?

Do your daily habits support who you want to be?

I didn’t like how I sounded here so I decided to change it. I want to be the kind of person who knows their neighbors, who learns from strangers. Tada - now I am!

How do you describe yourself?

When someone asks you about yourself, what do you say? Do you like how it sounds? I found myself describing myself and patterns and habits that really don’t even feel like me anymore.

Practice a reframe. How can you tell this story/habit/history in a new way that reflects the power of your new ideal reality?

What were your favorite experiences this year?

Did you have an experience or two that made you feel more yourself than anything else?

Allowing what you’re feeling now to take you to where you want to go

I’ve learned to take many “bad” things that used to drive me crazy — moods, weird energy, hard thoughts — and translate them into something more useful to me.

For me, the friction annoyed feeling that I get sometimes means that I’m on the way to what is coming.

Questions I’m reflecting on as I enter 2026:

• Who do I want to attract into my life?

• What new experiences and adventures would blow my mind?

• How can I make what I’m building as fun and easy as possible?

• What can I let go off? What are the distractions that aren’t even that bad but are taking me away from focusing on what I want?

• How’s your wild side? Your silly side? Who and what brings out all of this.

• How can I share all that I’m learning? Who can I support?

Y’all already know this is the vibe for ever moving forward. Now that everything is crystal clear my biggest challenge will be focus. More on all that later.
