Trump announces 50% tariffs on key Canadian imports - ARTICLE

Just in case you don’t think Trump actually imposed a 50% tariff on Canada or if they are not already having an affect this was my experience on Tuesday. I ordered a raised cedar garden which just so happens to be made in Canada. I got an email today letting me know that due to the tariff placed on Canada they will not be shipping anything to the US. They said when or if the tariffs are lifted they will start shipping again. If the tariffs do not get lifted they will have to raise the price on the goods I ordered. I remember when President Trump was campaigning he said he was going to impose tariffs on many countries and this is how he would fund the lost revenue from ending income tax. So far it looks more like he is using tariffs to get what he wants and when the country complies that tariff is listed. So much for tariffs taking the place of the income tax. I believe we should place tariffs on countries that are charging us inordinate amounts of tariffs while we charge them next to nothing and I do believe it could work to truly give Americans relief. AND truth be known income tax is not constitutional and there is no law requiring an income tax. If I am required to pay more for the product I ordered the order will be canceled and the sad part is tariffs will hurt the small business owner in Canada but like in the US elections have consequences.

Dr. Michael Coffman is a name probably most of you have never heard before. I knew this wonderful man. No, the state of Pennsylvania is not allowed to award direct expansion grants to private schools. State funding for private school tuition is exclusively channeled through tax-credit scholarship programs, specifically the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC).

Under these programs, businesses and individuals receive state tax credits for donating to private Scholarship Organizations (SOs) or Special Purpose Entities (SPEs). These private non-profits then award tuition vouchers to families attending private schools. The state does not directly fund private schools; instead, it forgoes tax revenue, with the 2025-2026 budget allocating $680 million in tax credits to these programs.

In contrast, direct state grant funding for expansion and facility improvements is reserved for public entities. The Pennsylvania Charter Schools Program (PACSP) Grant provides $30 million to support the opening, replication, or expansion of high-quality public charter schools. Additionally, the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG) offers grants up to $5 million for facility improvements to public school districts and area career and technical schools. Private schools are ineligible for these direct state expansion grants.
