A Little Background…

I’ve always wanted to do an audiobook, but honestly, felt overwhelmed. As someone who doesn’t listen to more than 2 or 3 audiobooks a year, I didn’t feel equipped to make decisions like duet vs single narration or which narrator to choose. But I realized, like everything in Cash City, I get the final say. And I love single narration. It’s what made me first listen to A Court of Thorns and Roses once upon a time. I would take long bike rides on the weekends my kids were with their dad, and listen to this new popular book I was seeing so much about. Little did I know the fire it would stoke inside of me.

I’ve DNFd so many audiobooks for the “radio show” style narration, because of the pauses around dialogue. If I’m going to have someone sitting in my ear telling me a story, I want it to be one smooth talking, honey-voiced woman. Call me a sapphic, women-centered person all you like, but it’s true. So, in the end that’s why I chose Gwen Clearwater. Her voice is outstanding. Her production blew me away. Her attention to detail was exactly what this story needed.

I crawl to the hotel safe sitting on the floor in the hotel closet. I already know how to break in since Rodrigo helped me when mine “suddenly locked me out.” I input the skeleton passcode, and it opens right up to reveal a handgun, magazine of ammunition, bottle of scent blockers, and cash.

I think 2026 will go down as the most productive year. I was laid off from my job in January, and despite all the interviews and close calls, am still a walking funemployed business babe. I have been living off of savings and good luck so far. I’ve had to reevaluate my book stuff to match my new tiny budget, and it’s been tough. I’m a full-time single mom to two teen daughters, and we’ve all had to make sacrifices. Nothing major honestly, and we are happy. I’ve never been more relaxed in my life. I feel like a should be stressed more than I actually am. So far I’ve been able to pay my mortgage and bills, and keep my Crunchyroll and Viki subscriptions. So, life isn’t too bad. I’ll just need to find something soon, or my books have to take off. My vote is for the second one.

I released my novella, Pack Star, last month and holy shit, you guys, it’s doing so damned well. By the numbers, it’s one of my best releases to date. I hoped the genre needed a novella about five beta women in a pack who meet a male omega and a well-behaved alpha, and then they all do it until the end. I know there’s so much more story that I could have explored with Pack Star, but do we not get spicy, brimming with lore novellas, too? Based on the sales, I’d say y’all agree.

I have a surprise—Pack Star is being made into an audiobook! I’ve chosen a narrator and they are producing it as we speak. I always wanted to do an audiobook, but honestly felt overwhelmed. I write books with so many POVs. Did I need to turn into a full cast radio show with sound effects and accents? I finally decided to choose one femme narrator, and do the all three POVs with their voice. They have the smoothest, warmest voice and have absolutely nailed bringing each POV and line to life. Based on how well this going, I feel more confident producing more for future books.

Knotorious Omega

Let’s talk Knotorious Omega release date. Right now, Amazon shows March 2027, but that’s bogus. I set it far out into the future to help reduce my stress. It has helped immensely. I will be setting a real release date soon and it will most likely be August.

Knotorious Omega has been with (9) nine beta readers. That’s the most I’ve ever worked with, and I will definitely do it again. I really want Knotorious to be the best it can be, and having it reviewed by my reader demographic prior to publication was important to me. All the readers brought me great reader insight. I also hired a reader named Yoshi to do a cultural/language beta read on the setting, Puerto Rico. That was fun as hell. If you want to be a beta reader for me, follow my page for announcements on my next project.

Today I sent Knotorious Omega off to Kate Black with Bitchn’ Books for the first round of edits! I’m also still writing the epilogue and a bonus chapter. I wanted reader feedback before writing the epilogue so if there were any lingering questions, I’d get them all answered. This is my first stand-alone Romance and I want everything wrapped up nicely. My readers let me know everything is well wrapped up, but they wanted to see some shenanigans, so I’ve cooked up some fun ones.

I’ve done a few in person events this year and love, love, love meeting readers and talking all things omegaverse. I’m putting together some signings in Utah for September to celebrate the Knotorious release. I’m also going to Maryland for Nest Fest in November. Honey

Plus, she liked it. She liked Honey, dancing, swindling men out of their money, and she loved her friends. She felt her future was there.

Lucy

Lucy always lived alone. Her mother passed away when she was younger, and her father worked all the time. Lucy would spend her days either studying or playing with her toys. She had a vivid imagination that needed to be spent. She made videos of her toys and the dramas they went through. Without adult supervision, she posted the videos online and gained a huge following, tuning in each week to see what would happen next to the assortment of dolls experiencing high-charged drama.

Eventually, a crazed fan found out where she lived and broke in one night. Her father was nearly killed in the melee. She was banned from the internet afterwards.

In college, no longer under her father’s roof, she started making videos again, but this time discovered a new corner of the world she enjoyed. She made more money than she thought a young college girl could make. However, things took a dark turn when another crazed fan discovered where she was and caused problems in her dorm, resulting in her being asked to leave, forcing her to drop out. Lucy needed protection, as the threats and doxing continued, and turned to the local clan leader, Legs O’Bannon, who agreed to house and protect her, allowing her to make videos in the pack house, but now he got a cut. He also fought for creative control.

While she was at the pack house, Lucy learned how to keep herself safe. She learned how to scramble her IP. How to leverage third-party hosting. And she used masks, obscuring her true face. She learned self defense, and how to install and manage security systems. She learned the tells for when someone was behaving in a concerning way, and most of all—she learned where her stalkers lived and paid them a visit.

Her confidence grew under O’Bannon, and so did her circle of protection. The more she spent time with Carmen, Honey, and Sauvignon, the more empowered she felt. She made sure that if anyone threatened her or her new lovers, they’d have to go through her first.

Tara

Tara is a middle child, and the only beta in her family. She’s used to being overlooked and underappreciated. It’s probably how she got so good at learning everyone’s secrets.

When Tara was 18, she told her family she was looking for a job, and when she didn’t come home in the evenings for dinner, they assumed she’d gotten one. Which was partially true. Tara applied to be a door girl at the O’Bannon Pack House, not knowing what that was, only that the hours were after school. Door girls stood next to the bouncer, making club nights look more enticing to potential customers. Legs didn’t want her to leave so late at night, after her shift, so he offered her a room, and more work to cover the rent cost.

“I don’t know what I’d do at a salon,” Lucy says as stabs a piece of apple off a plate and brings it up to her mouth.

“You could use it as a front for your real business—killing off dirty husbands at the bequest of their wives!” Honey again with the brilliant ideas.

Lucy turns to her with her mouth open.

“Honey!” Carmen chides.

“What, what did I say?”

Again, I smile, but it fades quickly. I love these girls with all my heart. I’d follow them anywhere. If they want to get aesthetician licenses and start a salon, I’d do it. Carmen would run it. She has a great head for business and leadership. I’m looking at her now as she’s busy thinking. She probably thinks it’s a great idea.

Reading Update

I read all four of Thea Masen’s Dragons of New York series last week. The first one was free on a Stuff Your Kindle Day, so I had to get it. What an absolute treasure trove that series turned out to be! What really kept my eyes glued to my Kindle was the incredible on-page spice scenes. Thea can write the hell out of a sex scene! What kept me coming back for more was the dragon lore and compelling universe she created.

A dragon hoard lives in New York City, veiled from our eyes, and living large in high rises and working as investors. The Dragon King stumbles into his a mate, a human woman, just days before Goddess Week, a once every seven years event where a human can decide to become a dragon, but if she declines, all her memories of dragons will be wiped and they will have to live separately. The dragon king only has days to convince this woman that she’s the love of his life. In the third book, two rival dragons realize a human woman is their mate, and in the fourth book (my favorite), a young dragon discovers his mate on the last day of Goddess Week, so he lifts her off the street and drops her in the magical Gold and Silver pool without explaining a damned thing.

I highly recommend this series to anyone wanting to read some good shifter romance. And then you can slip into my DMs and we can talk about it!

Any good writer will tell you that it starts with a blank page. You look at its vastness, and take that brave step inwards. For this latest WIP (work in progress) it started with a challenge.

I wanted to write a full-length novel with only one couple—one love story. Up until now, all my published works have been Why Choose romance stories, where one or more people experience several love stories at once. It’s exciting and beautiful, but can I write just one?

I thought about my favorite love stories, and one that kept hopping up and down in my mind was a Ray Bradbury short story buried in a dusty anthology I found in a charity shop in Los Angeles, found in 2006 during my senior trip.

The story is called “The Cat’s Pajamas” and is a short, sweet story about two people in very desperate and difficult places in their lives driving down the highway. They are unknowingly headed towards each other driving on this dark road, and when their headlamps meet, there in the middle of the road is a lost kitten.

They emerge from their cars, each ready to take the kitten and find peace with this new companion, but faced with another person who also claims the cat, they decide to just be together for the sake of the cat.

I think about it often.

I thought it could be a great start to a romance story. Two desperate and broken people who find love on a long, dark road.

Thus emerged Kelya and Tony. Kelya’s character started out as a shop owner, and then through some false-starts with this WIP, she found her footing as a femme fatale and International thief, traveling the world, sleeping with and robbing men.

So, who would Tony be if not the private detective hired to track her down?

One of my favorite shows when I was younger was Veronica Mars, a film noir take on the classic teen serial on the CW. I couldn’t stop incorporating it into the story. The harsh lights coming in through the blinds during late night criminal activity. The fake clients from the film Chinatown. The summer heat, sex, and desperation from Body Heat. I just can’t help but steer all my stories to gritty, neon, and violent settings.

This world has consumed me.

I imagine some details will change between now and publishing, as is the case with writing and rewriting, but the bones are in place, and the page is no longer blank.

La Femme Omegaverse is my world. I’ve written a series called Cash City Omegaverse that exists with all the rules and constraints I’ve built into my universe. It isn’t a standard by any means, to be judged against other authors’ worlds, but has its own absolute truths, scientific facts, and cultural expectations and beliefs. These do not often contradict other omegaverse universes, but if it does, I will do my best to point it out below, so if you read other omegaverse books, don’t call foul.

Cash City Omegaverse is a gritty mafia story set in a contemporary urban backdrop. The first duet follows Ondine, a late-perfuming omega that accepts a temporary contract with a pack of alphas, so she can escape her mistake of sleeping with a Heat Clinic beta manager. Mads is the second duet in the series and is centered on a beta male that has an understandable fear of alphas and can’t be around them. He stands between three alphas and the omega they desperately desire. However, their path to her includes seducing Mads.

I’ve read stacks of omegaverse books, and have a small collection of them. The genre is continually growing. My local bookstore, Lovebound Library, even has a shelf dedicated to the omegaverse.

What La Femme Omegaverse Is Not

Before we begin, it’s best to acknowledge the negative space; what La Femme Omegaverse is not. In this world, the designations do not shift. Meaning, they are not werewolves, wolf shifters, or other animalia in disguise. While they have traits associated with these cryptids, they are not them.

Also, there is no overarching origin story. Other omegaverse stories have given an origin story to why people have designations, like the Chinese television show ABO Desire, which claims that there was a disease that wiped out much of the population and left the survivors with alpha and omega designations. I am especially offended at this because the disease ended all people with AB blood type (like mine!!!) and handed out designations based on the remaining blood types. It’s a really neat concept, but not embraced by the omegaverse community at large. Typically, it is more common to say that people don’t know why some people are Alphas or Omegas, and that is just how it’s been since the beginning of time.

What is the Omegaverse?

The omegaverse as a genre was originally started in the West, and most notably had its origins in Supernatural fan fiction.

It is a world with biological sexes (male/female/intersex) but there exist designations of alpha, omega, and beta as well.

Ratio of population:

Betas make up 80% of the total population1. They are considered “regular” humans like you and me. 20% are alphas and omegas, with a small percentage of that being just omegas. Here is the important part: omegas give birth to alphas2. Additionally, omegas are uniquely designed for procreation with alphas. Omegas need alphas during their heat. Since the numbers don’t add up for a one-to-one relationship, alphas and omegas form packs: one omega to a group of alphas. The omega is the sun upon which their alphas orbit.

In some communities, the omegas are treated as special creatures to be cared for and practically worshipped, and on the flip side, other communities treat omegas as a property or even a liability.

Alphas

Most alphas are male. They are natural-born leaders, are blessed with height, strength, and good looks. They are aggressive and tend to exhibit predatory behavior. While often thought of as handsome, it could be all the natural charm they have to lull their prey to submission. Most have an “alpha bark” which is a unique voice they can use on omegas and other alphas to bend them to their will.

An alpha also has an influence, which is a strong overpowering force they can use on others around them to get them to submit. The more powerful the influence, the greater hierarchy the alpha has.

Alphas present during a second puberty, typically at 18 years-old. Presenting is a type of maturation when their biology presents itself as its designation. For male alphas, they develop a knot at the base of their penis and showcase their elevated levels of testosterone, emitting alpha pheromones, and can now use an alpha bark. This is not a rule. For boys, they are easily identified as possibly presenting as alphas at a young age. For girls, this comes much later. They do not develop a knot, but rather a lock, to trap penis inside of her after climax.

Omegas

Omegas have a unique ovulation cycle called a heat, and while typically female, an omega of any sex can become pregnant during their heat and eventually give birth. Omegas often present when they are in their early 20’s, developing anatomy that can accept a knot, slicking in both their vagina and anus, and emitting pheromones that affect alphas and betas, calming them or arousing them. Omegas are known for being smaller than the average person and exhibiting qualities that compel their partners to care and coddle them, mistaking them as submissive when it is usually the opposite.

Omegas are rare. Often, they are mistaken as betas up until the moment they perfume. Perfuming is the term used for when an omega presents, because of the intense pheromones they emit when presenting. This perfume also showcases their unique omega scent, either deterring or attracting a biological partner.

Betas

Betas are just like you and me. They are not affected by an alpha bark, and rarely find themselves entranced by an omega’s pheromones. While subtle, they still posses their own unique smells that alphas or omegas notice. They do not have any of the unique biological drives as the other designations. If a beta is seen with an omega, it is considered strange and often met with hostility. This is because there are so few omegas, and society feels they should first be with alphas since they are more biologically compatible. This is a highly problematic way of thinking.

Bonds and Packs

A bond is a special, intentional bite done by an alpha that ties two or more together in a unique and permanent connection. While omegaverse is not considered paranormal, there are supernatural elements and influences in the lore. For example, in a bond the bonded members can feel each others’ emotions and even communicate on a primal level.

When alphas bond, the alpha with the strongest influence will be the “pack lead.” They will be able to enact their influence and desires upon the pack. It is a great responsibility.

Bonds are permanent. They are for life. Dissolving a bond is possible, however, the ramifications are severe. Often it can lead to psychosis or death. In the best-case scenario, they can never bond again. Alphas and omegas are driven by their primal selves when choosing partners, attributing these feelings to Fate, and then acting on them rather than using logic. Choosing a partner to bond is often left to biological reactions rather than logical conclusions.

Silver Bond

Any alpha can bond another person, but if they are bonded to someone else, it daisy-chains them together in a silver bond3. The alpha with the most influence will still be their lead. Bonds done in the pack not by the pack lead are called silver bonds. They do not differ at all from a regular bond, but some report them not being as strong. They also have a silver hint to their healed bite. This serves no real purpose, but it shows how packs can be brought together in diverse and unique ways, not just bonded by the pack lead.

Dark Bond

For a bond to form both parties—the biter and the bitee—must be consenting. If one party, often the person being bit, does not want the bond, it will still take place but as a dark bond. These are harmful for both parties, both during the biting and residual pain. The bite heals poorly and is prone to infection. The connection is raw and unpredictable. With time and distance, it can be healed.

Dark bonding often leads to psychosis or death.

Packs v Clans

Bonded alphas, betas, and omegas form a pack, usually under ten members. There are larger groupings called clans. Clans can be made up of many packs that are not connected by a bond, but rather by conscription to the rules, community, and culture. Clans can be old or even ancient, and being born into one means growing up with all their rules and authority, as well as privilege and protection.

Clans can also be loyalty bonds between a clan leader alpha and many other alphas and beta. These often look like organized societies with rigid hierarchies. A clan leader dictates bonds among members as well as their occupation, and even demand servitude.

Heat

Omegas have a ovulation cycle that ends in a every 6-8 weeks. During this heat, they are overcome with the need to mate, letting their inner omega take control, and demand sex from their alphas for several days. They do not require food during this time and are sustained by their alpha’s cum. Water is helpful, however.

Once knotted, the omega’s temperature will drop enough to be satiated as well as sleep for a time. Alphas do not have the stamina to assist an omega on their own. Most omegas need multiple alpha partners during their heat.

If an omega becomes pregnant during their heat, their heat will end suddenly. An alpha can scent the change in the omega immediately.

If any one alpha is on birth control, the likelihood of any partner getting an omega pregnant during their heat becomes very low. Omegas can only become pregnant during their heat.

Heat Spike

Before an omega goes into heat, she may experience a few heat spikes, these are sudden bursts of fever where she must receive sexual satisfaction as soon as possible. These spikes hit without reason and demand attention. If she experiences a climax, the heat spike will cool off, if she doesn’t, the heat spike will take hours to run its course.

Heat Clinics

Heat Clinics are wildly popular in the modern era. They match omegas with hired alphas based on biology and scent to assist during their heat. These alphas are well trained. Heat Clinics have rentable nests, or rooms, with all the materials for a nice time. Alphas are given a birth control shot so as not to impregnate the omega during these heats.

While there are government sponsored free clinics, for the best experience, private clinics are preferred among omegas.

Nesting

Omegas have many habits that they must embrace, and one of them is nesting. It’s most important for an omega to create a nest for her heat, but having a nest available at all times is also important to care for her inner-omega. It cannot be in the same space they sleep in, but separate, often a closet or a closed-off room with plenty of ventilation. They let their primal desires take over in order to create a space that gives them what they need. If an omega invites someone into their nest, it is a great privilege.

Scents and Smells

Scents are extremely important to alphas and omegas. They are driven by them on a primal level. Every person has a unique scent profile that others are aware of. It can attract or deter the right partners.

They also have pheromones that communicate to others around them their emotions or intentions.

Scent blockers, or descenters, are important for community spaces to not result in infighting or violence. Scent blockers can be sprays or ingested medicine, to either mask the scent or stop the body from producing.

Scenting is an act where one person rubs their scent onto another, using their concentrated scent from their scent glands. This scent has connotations of being claimed. It illicits sexual desire in both parties, and is considered very primal.

Scent Matches

A scent match can also be referred to as a fated mate. It is a pair whose scent is intensely suited for each other. These pairs tend to be fairly matched in more ways than scent compatibility, and are often an omega and an alpha pair. Scent matches are rare to the point that they are considered unbelievable by most modern folk.

Not bonding a scent match that has been discovered can lead to health concerns including bond sickness.

Animalistic Behaviors

• Purring and Growling: Alphas and omegas purr and growl. It’s a response to their innate and primal feelings. Growling is to show displeasure, and purring shows satisfaction. These acts are not done consciously. Purring can also be a way for an omega to relax her partners.

• Teeth baring: Alpha teeth are sharp and animalistic looking. They are used for biting, after all. Baring their teeth at someone is a sign of disrespect, like flipping them off. Omegas also have sharp teeth, but are not dangerous. They also mimic this behavior to show offense.

Inner Omega/Alpha

Alphas and omegas war with their natural selves, especially being in the modern world where one must have control over their natural impulses. Being overly possessive, sexual, and territorial is in direct opposition of being in polite society. This natural side of themselves they refer to as their “inner omega” or “inner alpha.” Often this hindbrain will manifest as an entity, even taking over their body. When an omega goes into heat, for example, she is letting her inner omega completely take over.

For alphas, their inner alpha takes over when they are in rut or feral, two states that alphas need to avoid at all times. It is dangerous to let this side take over, as he may never regain control. It is viewed as animalistic and not human.

Health Concerns

It is dicey being an omega. She needs to be knotted during her heat in order to bring her temperature down and not die. While an omega can survive a heat on her own, it is not recommended. She also must be touched, petted, stroked, and cuddled. She must have access to a nest that is fully under her control. If she does not have these things, she may develop a disorder that will lead to psychosis or death.

Touch-Starved

If an omega is not cuddled or touched with affection by her alphas, she can develop a disorder called Touch Starvation. It will erode the omega’s sense of self, disrupt her heat cycles, and even turn her feral.

Bond Sickness

Bond Sickness is a serious disorder. If an omega does not get a bond her inner omega desires, either a scent match or desired alpha, the absence will wear down her psyche. She will lose gross motor skills, often times have seizures, and can expire. Bond sickness can also develop if alphas within a bond do not care for their omega, or deny her during heats.

If an omega experiences prolonged touch starvation, she will develop bond sickness.

Nest Waning Syndrome

NWS effects omegas who unnaturally bond with their nest, and if they are no longer able to return to their nest, they become sick and could die. This is highly serious disorder created from extreme stress, unwanted alphas, and abuse. NWS symptoms are easy to identify—she will vomit, lose gross motor skills, experience seizures, and experience nose bleeds. If the omega is unable to return to her nest, she will continue to decline. Creating a new nest is not possible for an omega with NWS.

Alpha Rut

An alpha is susceptible for going into rut if they are near turning feral. It’s similar to an omega’s heat, but can be avoided their whole life. Typically an alpha has low stamina when it comes to meeting an omega’s needs during heat, but an alpha in rut will be able to go much longer, possessed entirely by his inner alpha. It’s a dangerous state to be in, because it can tip an unhealthy alpha into turning feral, a state one can never escape from.

Feral

An alpha (or omega in rare cases) can become feral. It’s when their animalistic primal self becomes their default state. They are possessive, hypersexual, violent, and unreasonable. It is near impossible to come back from it.

Omegaverse Culture

There is an entire world of alphas and omegas, and while it can look a lot like our world, it comes with its own cultural differences. Some things are subtle, like who is served first at meals (the omega) and others are more obvious, like beta and omega pairings are met with suspicion and prejudice.

Clans are often religious, believing in a being of Fate that dictates their lives. They are notably against interpack relationships, believing the pack should only be intimate with their omega.

This is the modern world, and things are changing. Interpack relationships are more common. Betas forming packs without bonds are seen more and more. Additionally, omegas taking longer to choose alphas to bond is becoming more and more commonplace.

Handlers

Alphas and omegas oftentimes will have handlers for very different reasons. An omega will have a handler after she has perfumed and before she is bonded in a pack. This handler is usually an older alpha or omega who offers both protection and legal guidance. They are in charge of their well being and safety. This can be a paid or volunteer position.

Alphas often have handlers to remind them to be civilized. They are usually assigned, and administer medication. Alphas need omegas to stabilize their wild nature, and without one they need to do this with medication, meditation, and early intervention.

Male Omega Pregnancy

In the omegaverse, any omega can give birth, regardless of primary sex. How does this happen? Wouldn’t you like to know.
