EAGLE, Idaho — The Legislative District 14 Republican Central Committee unanimously adopted a resolution Thursday opposing Proposition 1, the abortion measure appearing on Idaho’s November 3, 2026, general election ballot.

The resolution formally declares the committee’s opposition to Proposition 1 and urges Idaho voters to vote NO on the measure.

The committee’s resolution affirms that protecting innocent human life is among the first duties of just government, citing the Declaration of Independence, the Idaho Constitution, Idaho law, and the Idaho GOP platform. It states that Idaho’s laws should continue to protect both mothers and their preborn children while providing clarity and certainty in the law.

The resolution also expresses concern about the legal scope of Proposition 1 and its potential effect on existing Idaho laws and protections. It specifically references concerns identified by Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador in his Certificate of Review of the measure, including questions regarding the proposed right to privacy, its interaction with existing Idaho law, and potential restrictions on future legislative action.

The committee further expressed concern that Proposition 1 could weaken existing safeguards regarding parental consent and other statutory protections.

“As Republicans, we value life, including the unborn,” said Brian Almon, District 14 Republican chairman. “By adopting this resolution, the grassroots volunteers of Eagle and Gem County have proclaimed with one voice that Proposition 1 is too extreme for Idaho.”

The resolution directs that copies be provided to the Idaho Republican State Central Committee, members of the Idaho Legislature representing Legislative District 14, Idaho’s congressional delegation, local news media, and other interested organizations.

The Legislative District 14 Republican Central Committee represents Republican voters in Idaho Legislative District 14 and is responsible for supporting Republican candidates and advancing Republican principles within the district.

First things first: The newly-elected precinct committeemen of District 14 came together in May to elect committee leadership. These were the results:

The Idaho GOP is energized from bottom to top, ready to get to work! We had our first full meeting following reorganization on Thursday night in Eagle, and it was a packed agenda!

District 14 is blessed to have three strong Republican legislators—Sen. C. Scott Grow, Rep. Ted Hill, and Rep. Josh Tanner. Click the links at the top of this page to learn more about our three state lawmakers.

We’re also blessed to live in a district that votes overwhelmingly Republican, but our neighbors to the south aren’t quite as fortunate. District 15, covering the west side of Boise, is a battleground, one of the few places where Idaho Democrats are actually competitive. Who wins in District 15 can determine if our Legislature protects children and families, maintains low taxes and spending, and keeps Idaho a great place for faith, family, and freedom.

We were pleased to hear from our Republican candidates in District 15. They need donations, they need volunteers, and they need door-knockers. Check out their websites to learn more about them and how you can help turn west Boise red!

We also had the pleasure of hearing from Brett Harding, current deputy coroner for Ada County who is running for the office of Coroner this year. Brett has more than thirty years of experience in the world of death investigation, which is a highly technical and professional field. Ada County voters have a terrific opportunity to put this important office in the hands of such a highly capable and qualified candidate!

Make sure to visit voteidaho.gov to register to vote, request an absentee ballot if you wish, verify dates for early voting, find your polling place, and see a sample ballot.

We also had an opportunity to discuss campaigns to get out the vote against Proposition 1, the radical abortion initiative that will be on your ballot this November. If you don’t know much about it, the Idaho GOP has a website answering all your questions. PCs took home signs and literature—if you’d like some, contact us or reach out to your PC!

Watch for LD14 PCs and volunteers knocking on doors between now and Election Day. Let’s keep Idaho red, keep Idaho a sanctuary for life, and keep Idaho the best state in the nation—and District 14, covering Eagle and Gem County, is the best place in Idaho!

The reorganization meeting will take place on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the American Legion / VFW building in Emmett, 120 N Hayes Ave.

The Gem County Republican Central Committee will hold its own reorganization meeting at the same location starting at 7:00pm. District 14 will gavel in at the conclusion of that meeting.

If you are interested in serving as a delegate, click here to download the Idaho GOP Delegate Pledge Form. Print it, fill it out, and bring it to the meeting on May 29. Delegates must be registered Republicans 18 years of age or older who reside within the bounds of legislative district 14.

Senator C. Scott Grow remains the co-chair of the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee (JFAC), which is charged with constitutional duty to present a balanced budget to the Legislature. This committee, made up of ten senators and ten representatives, meets every morning at 8:00am to hear presentations from state agencies, deliberate over how to best spend our tax dollars, and vote on proposed budgets.

District 14 is privileged to be home not only to one JFAC co-chair, but both! Representative Josh Tanner was appointed chair of the House side of the committee this year, replacing Wendy Horman who was herself appointed to a position in the Trump Administration.

Together, Co-chairs Grow and Tanner have been working to cut spending this year. In response to lower-than-expected revenue numbers last year, Gov. Brad Little ordered 3% holdbacks in all state agencies except K-12 education. This year, JFAC has codified those cuts, plus an additional 2% off the top, for Fiscal Year 2027.

The JFAC co-chairs hosted a press conference this week to talk about their work:

While Sen. Grow and Rep. Tanner are working on the budget, Representative Ted Hill is tackling some of the biggest social issues facing our state.

Rep. Hill is carrying bills related to what to do about cities flying divisive ideological banners like pride flags, as well as how to handle men who want to use the women’s restroom. He is also working on public safety and protection from foreign adversaries like China.

There are two chances for citizens of District 14 to meet their elected legislators over the next month. The Gem County GOP is hosting a town hall event on Saturday, February 28, at 1:00pm at the Gem County Fairgrounds in Emmett:

The District 14 GOP will be hosting a town hall in Eagle on Saturday, March 14, at 4:30pm at the Eagle Community Hall, attached to City Hall. No flier yet, but make sure to mark your calendars for that event. Stay tuned for more information.

Candidate filing for legislative, statewide, and federal races opens next Monday, and closes on Friday, February 27. Filing for local and county races, as well as for precinct committeemen, opens on Monday, March 2, and closes Friday, March 13. If you are interested in running for office, visit voteidaho.gov for more information. The Republican primary election will by on Tuesday, May 19.

Charlie Kirk loved God, loved America, and he loved Idaho. While many national political figures seem unaware of Idaho entirely, or come out only for the occasional Lincoln Day keynote, Charlie was an Idaho regular. Many of you were able to hear him speak not only at Boise State University, but at numerous small events throughout our great state.

Hours after he was killed, thousands of Idahoans gathered throughout the Gem State for candlelight vigils to mourn Charlie, and to honor him. He left his mark on the people of Idaho.

Charlie was a singular figure in American discourse. Not only did he spend his time traveling to college campuses, sharing political truth and Christian faith, but he invited opponents to debate him face to face. He was not afraid of disagreement.

Charlie Kirk was also a master organizer. He knew that winning political victories required getting people the polls. When President Trump needed to win swing states like Arizona in 2024, Charlie had it covered.

The District 14 GOP honors the memory of Charlie Kirk—a husband, a father, a son, and a great American patriot. We also honor his work, and pledge to carry on the movement that he began. Charlie showed the young people of America that socialism and nihilism were not the answers. May a hundred million Charlie Kirks rise in his place to carry the torch for freedom.

We heard from Republican Party officers, elected officials, and candidates for Eagle City Council. Daniel Murphy took some great pictures of the event and the attendees.

Tables competed to see who would get the first choice of desserts. The ten tables combined to raise more than $2,000 for the LD14 GOP, and took home some great cake, pie, cookies, and more!

We also conducted a live auction of two beautiful paintings, one of our 40th president Ronald Reagan, and the other this terrific piece from a local artist that was donated by PC-1403 Miguel DeLuna.

In all, LD14 Republicans raised more than $5,000 to support precinct committeemen in organizing their communities, with additional funds available to back Republican candidates and causes as determined by the committee.

Thank you again to all who attended, and especially to the volunteers whose many hours of hard work made this great event possible. I heard a lot of people say we should do it again next year—what do you say?

The 2025 session of the Idaho State Legislature came to an end last Friday, and District 14 is proud of our legislators. Sen. Scott Grow, Rep. Ted Hill, and Rep. Josh Tanner all did fantastic jobs representing the people of Eagle and Gem County.

As chairman of the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee (JFAC), Sen. Grow played a pivotal role in crafting a fiscally conservative budget for the state of Idaho. He also sponsored several bills, including the parental choice tax credit.

Rep. Hill carried many important bills this session, including one that prohibits public school classrooms from displaying divisive ideological flags. As Hill says, our schools should be places where we unite together under the American flag instead of promoting certain ideologies.

Rep. Tanner served on JFAC as well as in the role of House Assistant Majority Leader. He carried numerous bills, not the least of which was one allowing the death penalty for the aggravated child sexual abuse.

LEGISLATIVE WINS

Here’s a great example of how everyone can be involved in the political process. The District 14 Republican Central Committee passed two resolutions last fall, both of which were carried by the chairman to the State Central Committee Winter Meeting in January. Both resolutions passed and were endorsed by the Idaho Republican Party. Click here to read all of this year’s resolutions.

Resolution 2025-20 asked for legislation to prevent candidates from dropping out after winning their party’s primary and being replaced by another candidate. Remember how Idaho Democrats swapped their candidate for Attorney General in 2022, or tried to switch candidates in District 11 in 2024? After the Winter Meeting, the chairman worked with Rep. Brandon Mitchell of Moscow to incorporate those provisions in a new bill. Rep. Wendy Horman of Idaho Falls was already working on the same issue, so they combined forces to draft a comprehensive bill reforming numerous election deadlines.

House Bill 278 passed the Legislature and was signed by Gov. Brad Little. It doesn’t prohibit candidates from withdrawing entirely, but parties can no longer fill vacancies that occur after the primary unless it was due to death or disqualification.

The second resolution, 2025-30, asked the Legislature to codify the decision by the State Board of Education to stop public colleges and universities from forcing DEI on students. Sen. Ben Toews of Coeur d’Alene worked all session on this project, which culminated in Senate Bill 1198. It was passed and signed by the governor on the final day of the session last Friday.
