Four Compass Points for the Months Ahead

Welcome and Opening Reflection

The August bank holiday arrives at an interesting moment in the year.

For many families, it is the final holiday weekend before children return to school. Students will soon be leaving home or preparing to return to college and university. Parents may be thinking about uniforms, timetables, journeys and the routines that have been set aside during the summer.

After seven or eight weeks in which families may have spent more time together, September brings another period of change.

Some will welcome the return to familiar routines. Others may feel apprehensive about what lies ahead. For children entering a new school, young adults leaving for university, parents facing a quieter home, or anyone beginning a new chapter, this can be a season filled with several emotions at once.

The end of summer also reminds us that only four months of 2026 remain.

That does not mean we need to rush or create another demanding list of resolutions. It simply gives us an opportunity to pause, consider where we are, and ask where the Lord might be inviting us to place our attention next.

Throughout each month, LDS Compass follows four recurring themes: temple worship, faith and discipleship, General Conference, and family history. Perhaps these can become four compass points as we prepare for the months ahead.

Not four large goals.

Just four gentle directions that can help us continue moving towards Jesus Christ.

The Temple - Turning Intention into Action

It is easy to say that we would like to attend the temple more often.

We may sincerely intend to go, but daily life fills the diary remarkably quickly. Work, family responsibilities, health, travel and other commitments gradually occupy the available days. Before long, another month has passed and the visit we intended to make has still not happened.

Spiritual intentions become much more powerful when they are turned into practical decisions.

Booking a temple appointment is now easier than it has ever been. We can go online, find an available session and place it in our diary. That simple act changes a vague hope into a definite commitment.

I have already booked my own temple appointments through to the end of December. I do not know everything that those months will bring, but those appointments are now established points in my calendar—times set aside to step away from the noise of everyday life and enter the house of the Lord.

Of course, circumstances can change. An appointment can be rearranged if necessary. But having something to rearrange is very different from hoping that a suitable day will somehow appear.

If there is one practical invitation to take from this edition, let it be this:

Book your next temple visit.

Do not wait until life becomes quieter. Choose a date, make the appointment and begin preparing for it.

If attending the temple is not presently possible, you might still choose a meaningful step towards it. That could mean speaking with a Church leader, learning more about temple worship, preparing a family name, or simply placing a future date in your heart and prayers.

The important thing is to turn intention into movement.

Faith and Discipleship - Beginning Again with Christ

September often feels like a second beginning to the year.

Schools reopen, organisations resume their normal programmes, and many of us return to routines that became less structured during the summer. This transition offers an opportunity to consider the place that faith occupies in our daily lives.

Discipleship is rarely strengthened through dramatic changes. More often, it grows through small acts repeated faithfully: a sincere prayer, a few verses of scripture, attending sacrament meeting, checking on someone who may be struggling, or taking time to listen before responding.

We do not need to repair every weakness at once.

Perhaps we simply need to ask which small spiritual practice would help us remain closer to Jesus Christ during the busier months ahead.

For one person, that might mean returning to regular scripture study. For another, it could mean praying with greater openness. Someone else may feel prompted to become more attentive to a family member, neighbour or person at church.

As family routines change, there may also be someone who needs a little more encouragement than usual. A child beginning a new school, a student leaving home or a parent adjusting to a different household rhythm may not always say that they are anxious.

Walking with Christ includes noticing those quiet transitions and offering reassurance.

General Conference - Listening with Expectation

The April General Conference messages have accompanied us for several months. Some talks may have encouraged us immediately, while others may have become more meaningful as our circumstances changed.

Before October Conference arrives, this is a good moment to return to one message that stayed with us.

Perhaps there was a sentence you underlined, a principle discussed in a Sunday lesson, or an invitation you intended to act upon. Revisiting that message is not about completing an assignment. It is about giving the Spirit another opportunity to teach us through words we may now hear differently.

We can also begin preparing for the next General Conference.

Preparation does not need to be complicated. We might prayerfully consider the questions we are carrying, the decisions we face, or the areas of our testimony in which we need greater strength.

Conference is not simply a weekend of talks. It is an opportunity to receive guidance from the Lord.

When we listen with a question in our heart, a familiar message can become a personal answer.

Family History - Moving One Person Forward

Summer gatherings often provide unexpected openings for family history.

A name is mentioned during a meal. Someone remembers a story from childhood. An old photograph appears. A relative speaks about a person or event that younger family members have never heard about before.

Unless those memories are captured, they can easily disappear when normal routines resume.

This is a good time to make a note of the people, places and stories that surfaced during summer conversations. You do not need to investigate an entire family line. Begin with one person or one unanswered question.

FamilySearch and other family-history services can help us discover records and relationships, but finding information is not the end of the work. Where appropriate, the names we discover can be prepared and taken to the temple.

Research, remembering and temple service belong together.

The movement may begin with something very small: writing down a story, checking a date, uploading a photograph, contacting an older relative or reviewing a name already present in your family tree.

One small action can preserve something precious and begin moving another person’s story forward.

Is there one name, memory or family story from this summer that you should record before it is forgotten?

August has reminded me that slowing down does not mean that nothing is happening.

There are times when we feel that we must constantly push forward, organise the next project or make something happen. Yet the Lord is still at work when we pause. His purposes are not dependent upon our hurry.

During this quieter period, an unexpected door opened for me with the offer of another book contract. It came at a time when I had deliberately stepped back rather than forcing the next stage.

That experience has reinforced something we recently considered in LDS Compass: the Lord keeps His promises in His own time.

Rest and progress are not always opposites.

Sometimes a pause allows us to recognise what the Lord has already been preparing.

As we move out of the summer and into another busy season, I do not want to fill every available space simply because it is there. I want to keep making room for temple worship, discipleship, inspired counsel and family history—and to trust the Lord with what I cannot yet see.

This Week’s Invitation

Take a few quiet minutes during the bank holiday and consider the four compass points: temple worship, discipleship, General Conference and family history.

You do not need to create four new goals.

Choose one practical next step that feels most important—and if you are able to attend the temple, begin by booking your next appointment.

A date in the diary may be the small decision that makes the visit happen.

A Thought to Hold On To

The closing months of the year do not have to be approached with pressure.

We can move forward calmly, one faithful decision at a time, trusting that Jesus Christ will guide us through every changing season.

Wherever the coming months take you and your family, may you feel His peace, recognise His direction and know that you do not walk alone.

Welcome and Opening Reflection

Summer often creates opportunities for families to spend time together.

There may have been holidays, family meals, weddings, anniversaries, reunions or simply longer conversations around a table.

Stories are shared.

Names are mentioned.

Someone remembers an aunt who moved overseas, a grandparent who served in the armed forces, or a relative whose story has never been written down.

We may enjoy these conversations without realising that they are also opening doors into our family history.

A passing comment can provide the clue that solves a mystery.

An old photograph can introduce us to somebody whose name is missing from our family tree.

A story remembered by an older relative can preserve something that no official record will ever tell us.

As summer begins to draw towards its close, this could be a good time to think back over the conversations we have shared.

Which family members were mentioned?

Which stories caught our attention?

Was there a name, place or event that we would like to understand more fully?

Family history often begins not with a complicated search, but with the decision to follow one small clue.

Before the Story Is Lost

The people who know our family stories will not always be here to tell them.

That does not mean we should approach every family gathering with a list of formal questions. It simply means learning to notice the moments when memories naturally surface.

Perhaps somebody remembers what a grandparent was like, where a family member lived or why someone left home. They may recall a nickname, an occupation, a wartime experience or a family tradition.

Write down what you can while the conversation is still fresh.

Record who told you the story and, where possible, ask whether anyone has a photograph, letter, certificate or other document connected with it.

The details do not need to be complete. Even a name, an approximate date and the name of a town may provide enough information to begin searching.

It is also worth remembering that family history is about more than dates and records.

A family tree can tell us when somebody was born.

A story can help us understand how they lived.

Both matter.

Turning a Conversation into a Discovery

Choose one person or story that came up in conversation this summer.

Begin with what you already know. Write down the person’s full name, any alternative spellings or nicknames, the places associated with them and the approximate period in which they lived.

Then look at what is already recorded in your family tree. There may be missing information, an unexamined record hint or a relative connected to the wrong person.

Search one question at a time.

Rather than trying to discover everything about somebody in a single session, begin with something specific:

Where were they born?

Who were their parents?

Whom did they marry?

Where were they living at a particular time?

One answer will often lead naturally to the next question.

Family history becomes much less overwhelming when we concentrate on one person, one question and one step at a time.

The connection between family-history research and temple service has become especially real for me during the past few weeks.

Through family-history research, I was able to prepare names from my own family. The youth of my ward then carried out baptisms for ten members of that family, including my mother and father.

That was a deeply moving moment, but it was not the end of the journey.

I have since completed the initiatory ordinances for my father and my maternal grandfather, and further temple work is now being prepared and scheduled.

The experience has reminded me that finding a name is only one stage.

The work moves forward step by step, ordinance by ordinance.

Research reconnects us with those who came before us. Temple service allows us to offer them something that only the house of the Lord can provide.

This is what gathering Israel can look like in one family.

It may begin with a conversation, a record or a half-remembered name. It can continue through patient research and careful preparation until somebody enters the temple on behalf of a person they may never have met in this life.

The entire journey is an expression of love.

As President Russell M. Nelson taught:

“Anytime you do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel.”

That gathering does not always happen through something large or visible.

Sometimes it happens one remembered story, one verified name and one temple ordinance at a time.

What Is New in Family-History Research?

The resources available to us continue to grow.

FamilySearch added millions of free historical records during August, including records from the Philippines, Ukraine, Italy and several other countries. Its July update also included records connected with England. Even if you have searched for an ancestor before, it may be worth looking again because new material is being added regularly. Explore the latest FamilySearch records.

FamilySearch has also introduced an improved process for merging duplicate profiles in Family Tree. This is designed to make it easier to compare two profiles, understand what information will be retained and avoid accidentally losing valuable details. It is a helpful development, although every suggested merge should still be checked carefully before it is completed. Read about FamilySearch developments for 2026.

MyHeritage added 152 million historical records across 23 new and updated collections during July. These include birth, marriage, death and parish records, obituaries, military records and historical newspapers. The update also included more than 31,000 additional pages from British newspapers. Some records require a paid plan to view, but the collections may still provide valuable clues for further research. See the latest MyHeritage collections.

Ancestry has also continued expanding and updating its historical record collections, including school yearbooks and other records that may reveal more about an ancestor’s education, community and everyday life. If an earlier search produced no results, it may be worth repeating it, as newly indexed material can make previously hidden information searchable. Explore Ancestry’s latest family-history updates.

Different websites may hold different records or interpret the same information in different ways. A search that produces nothing on one site may lead to a useful discovery on another.

Technology can help us find the records.

We must still take the time to make sure that the person in the record really belongs in our family.

From FamilySearch to the Temple

Finding a name can be exciting.

Adding a date or attaching a record can feel like genuine progress.

But for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, family-history work can lead to something even more significant.

It can lead us to the temple.

Research and temple worship are not separate activities. They are parts of the same continuous journey.

We discover.

We check.

We prepare.

We reserve.

Then, where possible, we take those names to the house of the Lord.

Not every search will immediately produce a name ready for temple ordinances. Some family lines require patient research over many months or years. Some information must be carefully verified. Permission may be required in particular circumstances.

The purpose is not to rush through names.

It is to serve real people.

Each name represents somebody who lived, loved, struggled, hoped and formed part of the family into which we were born.

Searching Questions

Which family story have I heard recently that should be preserved before it is forgotten?

Is there one person mentioned during a summer conversation whom I could begin researching?

Do I have a family name that has already been prepared but has not yet moved forward to the temple?

Who could I ask to help if I am unsure how to take the next step?

Think back over one family conversation from this summer.

Choose one person or story that stayed with you and write down everything you can remember.

If possible, contact the person who shared it and ask one further question.

Then spend a few minutes checking FamilySearch or another trusted family-history resource to see where that clue might lead.

If you already have a family name prepared for temple ordinances, consider what the next step should be. You may be able to complete the ordinance yourself, arrange a temple visit or share the name with somebody who can help.

The important thing is not to complete everything this week.

It is simply to keep the journey moving.

Start with your own family tree and look for one of the following:

A green temple icon - This may indicate that temple work can be prepared.

A blue record hint - This may help you add or confirm information.

A family with missing dates - A birth, marriage, or death record may help complete the picture.

A name you recognise - Start with someone familiar. Familiar names often help us feel connected.

A small gap - Do not try to solve the whole tree. One small gap is enough.

The goal is not to become an expert. The goal is to begin.

Closing Reflection

Gathering Israel is the Lord’s work, but He allows each of us to take part.

Sometimes our contribution begins with a search.

Sometimes it begins by listening to an older relative.

Sometimes it means carefully checking information that somebody else has found.

And sometimes it means entering the temple carrying the name of a member of our own family.

Whatever stage we have reached, there is usually one more small step we can take.

May we recognise the clues placed before us, preserve the stories entrusted to us and continue helping our families move towards the blessings of the house of the Lord.

Welcome and Opening Reflection

“Come unto Christ.”

It is one of the simplest and most important invitations in the gospel.

Yet the way in which each of us responds to that invitation will be deeply personal.

Some people seem to recognise the truth of the gospel almost immediately. Others need time to ask questions, watch the example of faithful disciples and discover for themselves what they believe.

Some grow up surrounded by faith. Others find Jesus Christ after years of searching. Some remain close to the Church throughout their lives, while others follow a more complicated path that includes periods of uncertainty or distance.

In his April 2026 General Conference message, Elder Taniela B. Wakolo invited us to “come unto Christ—together”.

That invitation does not mean we must all arrive at the same moment, progress at the same speed or experience conversion in the same way. It means that while each journey is personal, we can still encourage and strengthen one another along the way.

As we discussed Elder Wakolo’s message in our elders quorum lesson, three important principles emerged.

Every person comes unto Christ differently.

Love changes hearts more effectively than pressure.

And the Lord keeps His promises in His own time.

Together, those principles offer reassurance to anyone praying for someone they love—and guidance for all of us as we seek to help others draw closer to Jesus Christ.

Every Person Comes unto Christ Differently

Elder Wakolo began his message by speaking about the clarity of road signs.

Whether a sign says “Stop”, “Full stop” or even “Really you gotta stop”, its meaning is unmistakable.

The gospel invitation is equally clear: come unto Christ.

But while the invitation is the same for everyone, our responses are not.

Our lives, relationships, experiences and understanding are different. Even within the same family, people may respond to spiritual truth in very different ways.

One person may receive an answer to prayer quickly. Another may need to pray for months or years before recognising how the Lord has been answering.

One person may feel at home in the Church almost immediately. Another may take much longer to feel that they belong.

One person may be ready to make covenants. Another may still be trying to understand what those covenants mean.

We can sometimes make the mistake of comparing another person’s spiritual journey with our own. Because something came clearly to us, we may struggle to understand why someone else cannot see it. Because we feel ready to move forward, we may expect them to be ready as well.

But the Saviour never treated people as though they were all standing in the same place.

He knew them individually. He recognised their needs, their questions and their capacity. His invitation remained constant, but His way of reaching each person was personal.

That raises an important question for us:

Do we sometimes expect people to come unto Christ in the way that we did, rather than allowing the Lord to guide them along their own path?

Coming unto Christ together does not require uniformity. It requires patience, understanding and a willingness to walk beside people whose journey may look very different from ours.

Love Changes Hearts More Effectively Than Pressure

One of the most reassuring statements in Elder Wakolo’s talk was:

“The temple stands as a symbol of hope, not pressure.”

For many families, the blessings of the temple remain a deeply held hope rather than a present reality.

Some Church members have spouses who do not share their faith. Some have children who no longer attend. Some are the only members of the Church in their family. Others may be endowed or sealed but, for personal reasons, have not returned to the temple for some time.

When we love someone and believe that the gospel will bless them, it is natural to want them to experience those blessings. But sincere hope can sometimes become pressure without us realising it.

Repeated invitations may begin to feel like demands. Concern can sound like criticism. Our desire for someone to change may leave them feeling that we are disappointed with the person they are today.

Elder Wakolo reminded us that “the gospel of Jesus Christ is not a wedge to divide families but a bridge to unite them eternally”.

The way we share the gospel should reflect that purpose.

A bridge is built through love, trust and respect. A wedge is created when someone feels judged, hurried or accepted only on condition that they change.

The Saviour invites, but He does not force. He teaches truth, but He also honours agency. His love is not withheld from those who are not yet ready to respond.

Elder Wakolo illustrated this through the story of a seven-year-old boy in Brisbane who wanted his father to join the Church so that his father could baptise him. Although the father had attended church for several years, he had not chosen baptism.

When Elder Wakolo extended the invitation, the father gently declined.

The story did not end with an immediate conversion. The father’s agency was respected. The invitation remained open, but so did the relationship.

Elder Wakolo observed that sometimes a seed is planted long before it breaks through the soil.

We cannot force a seed to grow by repeatedly digging it up to see whether anything is happening. We prepare the ground, plant carefully, provide light and water, and allow growth to take place.

Love creates the conditions in which change becomes possible.

Pressure may produce outward compliance, but love reaches the heart.

Perhaps this is the searching question we need to ask:

Does the way I treat the people I hope will change help them feel loved—or does it leave them feeling that they are not yet good enough?

The Lord Keeps His Promises in His Own Time

Elder Wakolo also shared the story of Denny and Alex, childhood friends in New Zealand who attended different churches.

After their friendship developed into marriage, their different religious backgrounds created a difficult question: which church should they attend?

Denny, who was a member of the Church, felt increasingly uncomfortable living in a way that seemed divided. His father gave him simple counsel:

“Keep going to church. They are your family.”

Denny followed that counsel.

Two years later, Alex chose to be baptised. In time, they were sealed in the temple.

The words “two years later” are easy to pass over when reading the story, but those years must have required faith and patience. Denny did not know at the beginning what Alex would eventually choose. He had to remain faithful without attempting to take control of her decision.

That is often where discipleship becomes difficult.

We may believe the Lord’s promises, but we also have our own ideas about when and how they should be fulfilled.

We pray for someone we love and watch for immediate change. When it does not happen, we may wonder whether our prayers have been heard.

We invite someone to return and feel disappointed when they are not ready.

We try to do the right things but cannot see the outcome we hoped for.

Waiting can feel like nothing is happening, but the Lord may be working quietly in ways we cannot yet see.

He may be softening a heart, arranging an experience or preparing someone to recognise truth when the time is right. He may also be using the waiting period to teach us greater patience, humility and trust.

The Lord keeps His promises, but He does not always fulfil them according to our timetable.

Faith means trusting not only what the Lord has promised, but also trusting His timing.

It means continuing to love when there is no visible progress. It means remaining hopeful without becoming demanding. It means recognising that another person’s agency is part of God’s plan, not an obstacle to it.

Waiting upon the Lord is not passive resignation. We continue praying, loving, inviting and living the gospel. But we release our need to control the outcome.

The searching question may therefore be:

Can I trust the Lord with someone I love, even when His timetable is different from mine?

Reflection

As we consider Elder Wakolo’s message, perhaps we might carry these three questions with us:

Do I allow people to come unto Christ in their own way, or do I expect their journey to resemble mine?

Does my love create space for change, or has my concern begun to feel like pressure?

Can I trust the Lord to keep His promises in His time, even when I cannot yet see how He is working?

These are not questions to answer quickly. They may require honest reflection and prayer.

Our elders quorum discussion about Elder Wakolo’s message developed into one of those conversations that seemed to move naturally under the influence of the Spirit.

Almost everyone contributed, and what stayed with me was the recognition that we cannot manage someone else’s journey towards Jesus Christ.

We can teach, invite and encourage, but ultimately everyone must choose for themselves.

That is not always easy when the person is someone we love. We want the best for them. We may feel sure that we know what would bring them happiness. But even a loving desire can become pressure if we are not careful.

The lesson helped me see more clearly that my responsibility is not to control the outcome. My responsibility is to love, remain faithful and trust the Lord.

People come unto Christ differently.

Love changes hearts more effectively than pressure.

The Lord keeps His promises in His own time.

That does not mean we stop hoping or praying. It means we allow our hope to be shaped by faith rather than anxiety.

Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is place someone we love into the Lord’s hands and trust Him to continue the work we cannot see.

Closing Reflection

Elder Wakolo’s invitation to “come unto Christ - together” is both personal and collective.

Each of us must decide whether we will follow Jesus Christ. No one can make that choice for us.

But we can create families, friendships and Church communities in which people are given the time, love and freedom they need to make that choice for themselves.

We do not all begin in the same place, progress at the same speed or recognise the Lord’s hand in the same way. Yet Jesus Christ continues to invite each of us. He does not withdraw His love when we hesitate, abandon us when progress is slow or give up when a seed remains beneath the soil longer than expected.

He continues to invite, love and wait - and He fulfils His promises according to His perfect wisdom and timing.

And He fulfils His promises according to His perfect wisdom and timing.

Our responsibility is to reflect that same patience and love in the way we treat one another.

Every person comes unto Christ differently.

Love changes hearts more effectively than pressure.

And the Lord keeps His promises in His own time.

Perhaps that is what it truly means to come unto Christ together: not forcing everyone to move at the same pace, but loving one another faithfully as the Lord guides each person home.

Whatever the answer, let your actions communicate that your love for them is not conditional upon their spiritual progress.

Welcome and Opening Reflection

There are weeks when the world feels particularly unsettled.

Across different parts of the world, people are living with conflict and uncertainty.

Communities are facing drought, extreme heat and the consequences of changing weather.

Families are worrying about the cost of living, their health, their work and what the future might hold.

And into all of this comes the constant flow of news.

Another headline.

Another warning.

Another crisis.

Another reason, perhaps, to worry.

We cannot pretend these things are not happening. Nor should discipleship make us indifferent to the suffering of others.

But there is an important difference between being aware of what is happening around us and allowing it to determine what is happening within us.

Jesus Christ never promised His followers a world without storms.

Instead, He taught us where to turn when the storms come.

Perhaps one of the great challenges of modern discipleship is learning how to remain informed without becoming overwhelmed, concerned without becoming consumed, and compassionate without losing our peace.

Because the world may be unsettled.

But Christ is not.

Where Are We Looking?

There is a familiar moment in the New Testament when the disciples are crossing the Sea of Galilee.

A storm arises.

The waves beat against the boat.

The disciples are frightened.

And Jesus is asleep.

Eventually they wake Him and ask:

“Master, carest thou not that we perish?”

Christ rises, rebukes the wind and says to the sea:

“Peace, be still.”

Then He asks His disciples a searching question:

“Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?”

The storm was real.

The danger felt real.

The disciples’ fear was real.

But so was Jesus Christ.

And He was in the boat with them.

That may be worth remembering when our own world feels uncertain.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking at the storm that we forget who is travelling with us.

Faith Does Not Require Us to Ignore Reality

Christian faith is not pretending everything is fine.

It does not require us to close our eyes to suffering or avoid difficult questions.

Jesus Himself experienced grief.

He wept.

He knew hunger, exhaustion, rejection and pain.

He showed compassion towards those who were struggling and asked His followers to do the same.

But He also repeatedly taught His disciples not to live in fear.

“Let not your heart be troubled,” He told them.

“Be of good cheer.”

“Fear not.”

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.”

Those words were not spoken because life was easy.

They mattered precisely because it wasn’t.

The peace Christ offers is not dependent upon everything around us becoming peaceful first.

It begins somewhere deeper.

It begins with knowing whom we trust.

What Are We Allowing to Shape Our Hearts?

Most of us cannot personally resolve international conflicts.

We cannot make rain fall on drought-stricken land.

We cannot control governments, economies or world events.

And worrying about those things for another hour will not necessarily change them.

But there are things within our reach.

We can pray.

We can worship.

We can serve.

We can check on somebody who is struggling.

We can speak kindly.

We can forgive.

We can spend less time scrolling through things that increase our anxiety and more time listening for the quiet influence of the Spirit.

We can open the scriptures.

We can go to the temple.

We can minister to the person in front of us.

And perhaps that is how disciples of Jesus Christ respond to an unsettled world.

Not by withdrawing from it.

But by bringing a little more of Christ into it.

I have been thinking recently about how easily we can feel that we always need to be doing something.

Fixing something.

Planning something.

Moving something forward.

Finding the next answer.

Sometimes even our prayers can become requests for God to hurry things along.

But faith also involves waiting.

There are seasons when perhaps the Lord is not asking us to push harder.

Perhaps He is asking us to trust Him more.

I am increasingly learning that waiting does not necessarily mean that nothing is happening.

We may not be able to see what God is arranging.

We may not yet understand what He is teaching us.

We may simply need to allow His timing to unfold.

That isn’t always easy for those of us who like plans, deadlines and visible progress.

But perhaps there are moments when discipleship means saying:

“Lord, I don’t know what comes next, but I trust You enough not to force it.”

And there can be surprising peace in that.

You are not walking it alone.

Faith Is Often Lived One Day at a Time

Sometimes we want God to show us the whole journey.

We want to know how something will turn out.

When circumstances will change.

When an answer will come.

When a difficulty will end.

But discipleship rarely works like that.

The Israelites travelling through the wilderness received manna one day at a time.

The Lord did not give them a warehouse containing forty years of provisions.

He gave them what they needed for that day.

Perhaps there is wisdom in that for us.

We may not know what the world will look like next month.

We may not know what our own circumstances will look like next year.

But we can ask a much simpler question:

What does following Jesus Christ look like for me today?

Perhaps today it means being patient.

Perhaps it means making a telephone call.

Perhaps it means praying when we would normally worry.

Perhaps it means apologising.

Perhaps it means resting.

Perhaps it simply means continuing faithfully when we cannot yet see where the road is leading.

Small acts of discipleship still matter.

Especially in uncertain times.

Some Questions to Sit With

There are no right answers required here. Simply take whichever question stays with you.

How much of my peace am I allowing circumstances outside my control to determine?

When life becomes uncertain, where do I instinctively turn first — towards Christ, or towards worry?

Do I sometimes ask God to change my circumstances when He may be trying to change something within me?

What might following Jesus Christ look like in one small, practical way today?

This Week’s Invitation

Sometime this week, find ten quiet minutes.

No news.

No social media.

No notifications.

No list of things that need doing.

Read one short passage from the Saviour’s teachings.

Then simply ask:

“Lord, what would You have me notice today?”

Don’t force an answer.

Don’t expect something dramatic.

Simply make room to listen.

Because in a noisy and unsettled world, one of the most important habits of discipleship may be learning again how to recognise the quiet voice of the Lord.

A Thought to Hold Onto

The storm does not need to disappear before we can experience the peace of Jesus Christ.

Sometimes we pray for Christ to remove the storm.

Sometimes He does.

But sometimes the greater miracle is discovering that He can give us peace while the storm is still around us.

The question may therefore be less:

“Lord, when will this storm end?”

and more:

“Lord, help me recognise that You are here with me while it lasts.”

Wherever This Week Takes You

There will almost certainly be more headlines this week.

There will be things we cannot control.

There may also be challenges in our own lives that nobody else knows about.

But none of those things changes who Jesus Christ is.

He is still the Saviour.

He is still the Prince of Peace.

He is still inviting us to come unto Him.

And He is still in the boat.

Whatever storms may surround you this week, may you find moments when you recognise that you are not navigating them alone.

Welcome and Opening Reflection

Some places become sacred because of what happens there.

Others become sacred because of the faith that has been lived there over many years.

The Preston England Temple is both.

Long before the temple was dedicated in 1998, Lancashire held a special place in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was here that some of the earliest missionaries found hearts prepared to receive the restored gospel. Families embraced the message of Jesus Christ, branches were organised, and the foundations were laid for generations of faithful disciples.

Today, thousands of members still travel to Preston each year to worship in the temple.

Some come from nearby wards.

Others travel many hours from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales or across Europe.

Each arrives carrying different experiences, different challenges and different hopes.

Yet we all enter for the same purpose.

To come closer to Jesus Christ.

To remember our covenants.

To strengthen our families.

To serve those who cannot yet serve themselves.

Perhaps that is one of the beautiful things about the temple.

In a world that never seems to stop, the temple invites us to slow down.

Outside its walls our thoughts are often filled with work, family responsibilities, financial pressures and the countless demands that compete for our attention every day.

Inside, everything changes.

The pace becomes gentler.

The noise fades.

The distractions of the world are replaced by an atmosphere of peace and purpose.

The temple reminds us that while many things are important, only a few things are eternal.

It gently lifts our eyes beyond today’s concerns and helps us remember who we are, whose we are, and what we are preparing for.

Perhaps that is why so many people leave the temple feeling different, even though nothing in their circumstances has changed.

Peace is not always found by changing where we are.

Sometimes it comes from remembering where we are going.

Temple Focus: Preston England Temple

A Place Where History and Faith Meet

Dedicated on 7 June 1998 by President Gordon B. Hinckley, the Preston England Temple serves members across much of the United Kingdom, Ireland and beyond.

Its location is especially significant.

Only a short distance away lies the Ribble Valley, where Elder Heber C. Kimball and the first missionaries to Britain preached in 1837. The remarkable success of those early missionaries helped establish Britain as one of the great centres of early Church growth.

Many of those first converts eventually travelled to America, strengthening the young Church and helping build Zion.

Nearly two centuries later, the temple stands as a quiet reminder that their faith continues to bless generations they never lived to see.

Every ordinance performed today is another link in that same chain.

Planning Your Visit

Whether you are travelling for a single session or planning a longer stay, a little preparation can make your temple visit even more enjoyable.

Many members choose to arrive early enough to spend a few quiet moments walking around the beautifully maintained temple grounds before their appointment. Others stay overnight, allowing time to visit local Church history sites and enjoy the surrounding Lancashire countryside without feeling rushed.

Temple worship often becomes even more meaningful when we allow ourselves time to prepare both spiritually and physically.

Getting There

The Preston England Temple is located in Chorley, Lancashire, just a few minutes from Junction 8 of the M61 motorway, making it easily accessible from much of England, Scotland and Wales.

Preston railway station provides excellent rail connections from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, with taxis readily available for the short journey to the temple.

Visitors arriving by air will usually find Manchester Airport the most convenient, approximately forty-five minutes away by car.

If travelling some distance, consider arriving the evening before your temple appointment. Removing the pressure of a long journey often allows you to begin your worship in a calmer and more reflective frame of mind.

Where to Stay

There is a wide choice of accommodation within easy reach of the temple.

Many members choose hotels in nearby Chorley for convenience, while Preston city centre offers a broader selection of hotels, restaurants and cafés to suit a range of budgets.

If you are making a weekend of your visit, it is worth booking accommodation well in advance, particularly during school holidays and busy travel periods.

Giving yourself an extra day can transform a hurried temple trip into a peaceful spiritual retreat.

Places Worth Visiting Nearby

One of the delights of visiting Preston is discovering the rich history surrounding the temple.

The River Ribble remains one of the most significant Church history sites in Britain, where many of the earliest converts entered the waters of baptism after hearing the restored gospel.

The attractive Avenham and Miller Parks provide peaceful places for a reflective walk alongside the River Ribble.

Samlesbury Hall, one of Lancashire’s finest medieval manor houses, offers an enjoyable glimpse into the region’s history and architecture.

Preston city centre provides excellent shopping, cafés and museums, while the surrounding Lancashire countryside offers beautiful scenery if you have time to explore a little further.

Many visitors also find that one of the most memorable experiences is simply sitting quietly on the temple grounds before or after their appointment.

Sometimes the greatest blessings come during those unplanned moments of stillness.

Walking in the Footsteps of the Early Saints

One of the unique blessings of visiting the Preston England Temple is that you are also visiting one of the birthplaces of the restored gospel in the British Isles.

In 1837, Elder Heber C. Kimball and a small group of missionaries arrived in Lancashire, uncertain of what lay ahead.

What followed surprised everyone.

Within months, hundreds accepted the restored gospel.

Many of those first converts were baptised in the nearby River Ribble, and branches of the Church began to flourish throughout the region.

Those early British Saints sacrificed enormously for their faith.

Many left family, employment and familiar surroundings to gather with the Saints in America. Others remained, helping establish the Church across Britain for future generations.

Today, almost two centuries later, members from around the world worship in the Preston England Temple because of the faith of those early pioneers.

As you drive through Lancashire or walk around the peaceful temple grounds, it is worth remembering that this is more than simply another temple location.

It is part of the living story of the Restoration.

This week has reminded me once again why temples matter.

Recently I received the wonderful news that ten members of my own family have now received their baptisms.

Among them were my mother and father.

It is difficult to put into words how that felt.

Those ordinances happened because family history research was carried out, names were prepared and reserved, and then some wonderful young people from my ward willingly gave up their time to attend the temple.

It struck me that temple work is never just about names on a screen.

Every name represents someone who laughed, struggled, hoped and loved.

Someone who mattered.

As I thought about Preston and the remarkable faith of those early British Saints, I realised something else.

None of them could possibly have imagined the generations that would follow because of their faith.

Likewise, we often have no idea how far the blessings of our own temple service will reach.

Perhaps one family.

Perhaps many generations.

The Lord sees the whole picture, even when we can only see today’s small act of service.

A Mid-Year Invitation to Gather Israel

We’re now more than halfway through 2026.

For many of us, the year seems to have disappeared almost before we noticed.

Life has been busy.

Families have needed us.

Work has demanded our attention.

Health, finances and everyday responsibilities have filled our diaries.

Meanwhile, the world itself has seemed increasingly unsettled.

Wars continue to dominate headlines.

Natural disasters affect communities across the globe.

Political uncertainty remains.

Economic pressures continue for many families.

It would be easy to look at all of this and simply feel overwhelmed.

Yet for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, these events remind us of something important.

The Lord has never asked His people to become distracted by the world.

He has invited us to help prepare it.

President Russell M. Nelson repeatedly taught that the gathering of Israel is the greatest work taking place on the earth today.

That invitation has not become less urgent.

If anything, it feels even more significant.

As we reach the halfway point of the year, perhaps this is a good moment to pause and ask ourselves a simple question:

Am I gathering Israel as intentionally as I could be?

We cannot control world events.

But we can choose how urgently we respond to the Lord’s invitation.

Every week that passes is another week in which someone could have moved one step closer to receiving temple blessings because of us.

The question is not whether the work is moving.

The question is whether we are moving with it.

The gathering of Israel is not waiting for a better time.

Neither should we.

Why Family History Matters More Than Ever

Family history has never simply been about building a family tree.

It is about preparing real people for sacred ordinances.

Every name represents someone known and loved by Heavenly Father.

Every ordinance completed brings another soul closer to receiving the blessings He has prepared.

This week I received wonderful news.

Ten baptisms for members of my own family were completed by youth from our ward.

Among those names were my own mother and father.

Seeing those ordinances completed was a quiet reminder that this work moves forward because ordinary members quietly keep finding names, preparing ordinances and attending the temple.

Sometimes we imagine gathering Israel requires extraordinary effort.

Often it begins with simply finding one more person.

One more record.

One more relationship.

One more temple visit.

Those small acts become eternal blessings.

Earlier this year I set myself the goal of becoming more intentional with family history.

Not simply collecting names.

Not simply adding people to a tree.

But helping move individuals all the way through the temple process.

Receiving the news this week that ten family members had now received their baptisms was deeply moving.

It was especially personal because those names included my own mother and father.

It also made me realise something.

Those ordinances only happened because, at some point, somebody did the research.

In this instance, that was me.

Somebody checked the records.

Somebody reserved the names.

And somebody went to the temple.

In this case, it was the youth from my local ward.

Bless them.

The Lord’s work moves forward because ordinary people each do their part.

As I look towards the rest of 2026, my own goal is simple:

Find more names.

Prepare them more efficiently.

Keep returning to the temple.

And never forget that every green temple icon on FamilySearch represents a real person waiting.

Perhaps your next ancestor is waiting too.

Five Ways to Move the Work Forward During the Rest of 2026

1. Review Your Tree Again

Many of us assume we’ve already found everyone.

FamilySearch is constantly adding new records.

New hints appear every day.

Spend thirty minutes reviewing the hints you’ve ignored for months.

You may be surprised what has changed.

2. Use Multiple Sources

FamilySearch is excellent.

But it isn’t the only tool available.

Websites such as Ancestry often contain records, census information, photographs and family connections that can help unlock difficult lines.

Once verified, those discoveries can often be added back into FamilySearch, helping everyone benefit.

Different tools often solve different puzzles.

3. Work One Family Line at a Time

Trying to research dozens of ancestors at once quickly becomes overwhelming.

Choose one grandparent.

Follow one surname.

Complete one generation before moving to another.

Focused work usually produces better results than scattered searching.

4. Prepare Ordinances Regularly

Don’t wait until you’ve found hundreds of names.

Prepare one.

Reserve one.

Take one family name to the temple whenever possible.

Small, consistent progress builds lasting momentum.

5. Let Technology Help You

Today’s tools make family history easier than ever.

Record hints.

Relationship suggestions.

Historical maps.

AI-assisted handwriting transcription.

Digitised archives.

Search improvements.

These aren’t replacing inspiration.

They’re removing unnecessary obstacles so we can spend more time discovering people rather than searching for paperwork.

Used wisely, technology allows us to gather Israel more effectively than any previous generation.

Five FamilySearch Features You May Not Be Using

Sometimes progress in family history does not depend on working harder.

It depends on using the tools already available to us more effectively.

FamilySearch continues to develop features that can help us discover records, identify relationships, organise our research and find new ways forward when a family line appears to have stalled.

The five features below are worth exploring during the second half of this year.

You may already use some of them.

Others may open an entirely new route into your family history.

Create a Simple Family History Rhythm

Enthusiasm can begin a family history project.

A simple rhythm is more likely to sustain it.

Rather than waiting for a free afternoon that may never arrive, try building a regular pattern into the rest of 2026.

You might spend thirty minutes each week reviewing record hints.

You could choose one evening each month to work on a particular family line.

Before each temple visit, you could check which ordinances are ready and which names still need more research.

You might also keep a short list of your next three actions.

For example:

• Check a census record.

• Confirm a marriage date.

• Review a possible duplicate.

• Contact a living relative.

• Prepare the next available ordinance.

This helps prevent the familiar experience of opening FamilySearch, looking around for a few minutes and then wondering what to do next.

Family history becomes easier when each session begins with a clear purpose.

The goal is not to do everything at once.

It is to keep the work moving.

One record.

One relationship.

One ordinance.

One family at a time.

A name you recognise - Start with someone familiar. Familiar names often help us feel connected.

A small gap - Do not try to solve the whole tree. One small gap is enough.

The goal is not to become an expert. The goal is to begin.

It is ours.

There are moments in life when we stop and ask ourselves an important question.

Not, “What have I achieved?”

Not, “How much have I done?”

But something far deeper.

“Who am I becoming?”

The world often encourages us to measure success by visible results. Careers. Possessions. Recognition. Even within the Church, it can be easy to judge ourselves by callings fulfilled, meetings attended, scriptures read or names taken to the temple.

All of those things matter.

But they are not the destination.

They are meant to help shape something far more important.

Our character.

The Lord has never been interested merely in changing our behaviour. From the beginning, His work has always been to transform hearts.

That transformation rarely happens quickly.

It comes through thousands of ordinary choices.

Choosing patience instead of irritation.

Choosing forgiveness instead of resentment.

Choosing honesty when nobody else would know.

Choosing faith when certainty seems absent.

Little by little, almost unnoticed, the Holy Ghost begins reshaping us into something different.

Into someone different.

That is why Elder D. Todd Christofferson’s General Conference message is so timely.

He reminds us that the ultimate purpose of discipleship is not simply to become better church members.

It is to become more like Jesus Christ Himself.

It is the willingness to recognise our dependence upon God.

When we stop trying to prove ourselves, we become more teachable.

The Lord can guide a humble heart far more easily than a proud one.

Choosing God’s will brings lasting peace

Perhaps the greatest characteristic of Jesus Christ was His complete devotion to His Father’s will.

Even in Gethsemane He chose obedience over comfort.

As we learn to trust the Lord’s timing and purposes, we discover a deeper peace than simply getting our own way.

Christlike Character Begins in the Heart

One of the most striking ideas in the talk is that character always begins internally before it is seen externally.

People see actions.

God sees motives.

That distinction matters.

It is possible to perform good deeds for recognition.

To serve while quietly hoping someone notices.

To appear faithful while our hearts remain divided.

The Saviour never lived that way.

Everything He did flowed naturally from who He was.

His compassion was genuine.

His obedience was wholehearted.

His kindness was never calculated.

That is why people were drawn to Him.

Not simply because of what He did.

Because of who He was.

The gospel invites us to seek that same inward conversion.

The scriptures repeatedly point us towards this deeper change.

“...the Lord looketh on the heart.”
(1 Samuel 16:7)

This should encourage us.

The Lord is not waiting for flawless disciples.

He delights in willing disciples.

Each sincere prayer.

Each act of repentance.

Each quiet effort to improve.

All of these become part of the lifelong shaping of our character.

Reflection

Perhaps the question this week is not:

“Did I do enough?”

Perhaps it is:

“Did I become a little more like Christ today than I was yesterday?”

Charity – The Defining Characteristic of Christ

If there is one quality that shines throughout the Saviour’s life, it is charity.

Not simply kindness.

Not merely politeness.

But pure Christlike love.

Charity notices people.

It forgives.

It listens.

It serves quietly.

It hopes.

It believes.

It stays.

Jesus constantly looked beyond crowds to individuals.

A blind man.

A grieving widow.

A woman at a well.

Children others dismissed.

Disciples who repeatedly misunderstood Him.

Even those who crucified Him.

His love was never dependent upon whether someone deserved it.

It flowed from His divine character.

Moroni reminds us:

“Charity is the pure love of Christ.”

That means charity is not simply something we do.

It is someone we are becoming.

When we begin praying for greater charity, we often expect the Lord simply to make us more loving.

Instead, He usually gives us opportunities to practise loving difficult people.

That can be uncomfortable.

But it is how character grows.

Practical Thought

Who needs your patience this week?

Not because they have earned it.

But because Christ has shown it to you.

Humility – Making Room for God

Humility is frequently misunderstood.

The world sometimes thinks humility means thinking less of ourselves.

The gospel teaches something different.

Humility means thinking more of God.

The Saviour possessed all power.

Yet He washed feet.

He accepted correction from no one because He was perfect, yet He willingly submitted Himself to His Father’s will in everything.

He never needed to prove Himself.

Humble people are teachable.

They listen.

They apologise.

They forgive.

They recognise they still have much to learn.

Pride closes hearts.

Humility opens them.

The Lord can guide someone who says,

“Teach me.”

Far more easily than someone who says,

“I already know.”

Scripture

“Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart.”

Christ never separated greatness from meekness.

Neither should we.

Devotion – Choosing the Father’s Will

Perhaps the greatest evidence of Christ’s character came in Gethsemane.

Facing suffering beyond our understanding, He prayed:

“Not my will, but thine, be done.”

Those words reveal everything.

Jesus did not merely obey occasionally.

Obedience had become His nature.

His entire life reflected complete trust in His Father.

For us, devotion rarely means facing Gethsemane.

Instead it appears in ordinary moments.

Remaining honest.

Keeping covenants.

Serving when tired.

Forgiving when hurt.

Praying when answers seem delayed.

Trusting that the Lord sees further than we do.

Each act of obedience quietly shapes who we become.

Thought to Hold Onto

Christlike character is not something we create by ourselves. It is something the Saviour patiently forms within us as we choose to follow Him.

Keep that thought in mind as we explore three characteristics Elder Christofferson invites us to develop.

Questions for Reflection

As you ponder Elder Christofferson’s message this week, you might ask yourself:

• Which Christlike attribute is the Lord currently helping me develop?

• When people experience me, do they experience something of Christ?

• Am I more concerned with appearing righteous or becoming righteous?

• Where is the Lord inviting me to trust His will over my own?

Don’t rush these questions.

Sit with them.

Pray about them.

Sometimes the Holy Ghost speaks most clearly after the reading has finished.

Preparing and teaching this talk in Elders Quorum last Sunday gave me a fresh appreciation for what Elder Christofferson was really inviting us to consider.

The discussion was thoughtful and honest. As different brethren shared their experiences, I noticed something interesting. Very quickly, the conversation stopped being about the talk itself and became about our own lives.

We spoke about patience, forgiveness, pride and learning to trust the Lord. No one was pretending to have mastered these qualities. In fact, quite the opposite. There was a quiet recognition that becoming like Christ is lifelong work.

That encouraged me.

Sometimes we can become discouraged because we still see weaknesses within ourselves. We notice where we fall short and wonder if we are making enough progress.

Yet perhaps the better measure is not perfection.

Perhaps it is direction.

Are we facing towards Christ?

Are we allowing Him to shape us, even slowly?

When I left the lesson, I wasn’t thinking about how much more I needed to do.

I found myself praying instead that, over time, my heart might become a little more like His.

For me, that was Elder Christofferson’s invitation.

And I suspect it is an invitation that will last far longer than a single Sunday lesson.

And He walks with us.

Closing Reflection

There is something wonderfully hopeful about Elder Christofferson’s message.

The Lord already knows the person we can become.

He is patient when our progress feels slow.

Merciful when we stumble.

Faithful when we begin again.

Every act of repentance, every quiet prayer, every decision to forgive, every effort to love a little better is part of His sacred work within us.

Character is not built in moments of ease.

It is formed, often quietly, in ordinary days as we repeatedly choose to follow the Master.

One day, if we remain faithful, we will discover that the question was never simply whether we believed in Christ.

The deeper question was whether, through His grace, we allowed Him to make us a little more like Him.

May that be our desire this week.

Welcome and Opening Reflection

The calendar tells us we have reached the middle of another year.

Six months already behind us.

For many of us, they have passed more quickly than we expected.

Yet if we pause for a moment and look beyond our own routines, it is hard to ignore how unsettled our world continues to feel.

Wars continue.

Communities recover from floods, wildfires and extreme weather.

Economic uncertainty remains for many families.

Across the world, millions of people wake each morning wondering what the day will bring.

It would be easy to allow all of this to shape our outlook.

To become anxious.

To become discouraged.

To begin believing that peace belongs only to another time or another place.

Yet disciples of Jesus Christ have always lived in uncertain times.

The early Saints knew uncertainty.

The pioneers knew uncertainty.

Our own generation knows it too.

The difference has never been the absence of difficulty.

The difference has always been where we choose to place our trust.

As we begin the second half of 2026, perhaps the question is not whether the world will become calmer.

Perhaps the better question is this:

Am I becoming more like Christ, whatever the world around me is doing?

Every quiet decision to follow the promptings of the Spirit.

None of these things make the evening news.

Yet they are changing the world one disciple at a time.

Steady Disciples

Faithfulness is often quieter than we imagine.

We naturally notice remarkable stories of courage and sacrifice.

But most discipleship happens in ordinary moments.

It is choosing patience when we feel tired.

Offering encouragement instead of criticism.

Serving without expecting recognition.

Returning to the scriptures after missing a few days.

Turning up to church even when life feels heavy.

The Lord has always built His kingdom through ordinary people quietly striving to become a little more like His Son.

Perhaps that is exactly what our world needs today.

Not louder opinions.

Not greater fear.

Simply steadier disciples.

One of the blessings of writing LDS Compass each week is that it encourages me to pause.

Most mornings, before work, I’ll spend time in a coffee shop writing, planning, or simply watching the world go by.

People arrive carrying laptops, shopping bags, pushchairs, work uniforms and takeaway coffees.

From the outside, everyone looks as though they know exactly where they’re going.

Yet experience has taught me that every one of us is carrying something unseen.

A worry.

A disappointment.

A prayer that hasn’t yet been answered.

A hope for someone we love.

It reminds me that the gospel was never intended only for life’s peaceful seasons.

It was given for ordinary Tuesdays, uncertain Fridays, difficult conversations and unexpected setbacks.

Whatever the second half of this year brings, I hope we each discover again that Christ walks beside us, not only on our best days, but on every day.

Welcome and Opening Reflection

Some temple journeys begin long before we arrive at the temple doors.

They begin with a thought.

A quiet prompting.
A name remembered.
A prayer offered.
A diary checked.
A route considered.
A heart prepared.

For some, the temple is close enough for a familiar journey. For others, it requires planning, sacrifice, travel, accommodation, and time away from ordinary routines.

But perhaps that is part of the sacredness.

Temple worship is not only about what happens when we arrive. It is also about what happens as we prepare to go.

The Lord can soften us in the planning.
He can teach us in the waiting.
He can bless us in the journey.
He can steady us as we return home.

This month, our Temple Edition takes us to West Africa and to a temple that speaks beautifully of gathering, patience, and sacred access: the Accra Ghana Temple.

Temple Focus: Accra Ghana Temple

The Accra Ghana Temple is located in Ghana’s capital city, at 57 Independence Avenue, North Ridge, Accra. It was dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley on 11 January 2004 and became the first temple dedicated in West Africa. It was the 117th operating temple of the Church and only the second temple on the African continent at the time, after Johannesburg South Africa Temple.

That history matters.

For Saints in Ghana and across West Africa, Accra was not simply another temple on a list. It represented sacred blessings coming closer to home. It stood as a witness that the Lord remembers His children in every nation, every language, and every family line.

Before its dedication, many faithful members had to look far beyond their own country for temple blessings. With the dedication of the Accra Ghana Temple, a sacred centre of covenant worship was established in the heart of West Africa.

There is something deeply moving about that.

A temple in Accra reminds us that the gathering of Israel is not abstract. It happens in real places, among real Saints, in real cities, with real families making real sacrifices to come unto Christ.

Getting There

For international visitors, the main arrival point is Kotoka International Airport, Accra’s principal airport.

One of the practical blessings of this temple destination is that the airport is relatively close to central Accra. Cantonments and nearby central districts are only a short distance from the airport, although traffic in Accra can vary significantly depending on the time of day.

The temple itself is in North Ridge, near important civic and central areas of the city. That makes it more accessible than some temple destinations where the temple is far outside the main arrival point.

For visitors planning a temple trip, that means the practical preparation can be fairly simple:

Arrive in Accra.
Stay in a central district.
Allow generous travel time because of traffic.
Confirm temple appointments and opening details in advance.
Build in enough quiet time around the temple visit so the day does not feel rushed.

That last point matters.

A temple trip can quickly become crowded with logistics. Flights, taxis, meals, bags, timings, and local transport can fill the mind. But the purpose of the journey is worship. Good planning helps protect the spiritual centre of the visit.

Where to Stay

The Church’s official temple information notes that temple housing is available for the Accra Ghana Temple. Visitors should check directly with the temple or official Church sources before making plans, especially as availability, eligibility, and booking arrangements can change.

For those using hotels, the temple’s central location means that nearby areas such as North Ridge, Osu, Cantonments, Airport, and central Accra may all be worth considering.

Each area has a slightly different feel.

North Ridge places visitors close to the temple itself.
Cantonments is close to the airport and has a calmer embassy-district feel.
Osu is lively, with restaurants, shops, and access to well-known parts of the city.
The Airport area can be practical for shorter stays or early departures.

The most important thing is not simply finding the cheapest accommodation, but choosing somewhere that supports the purpose of the trip.

For a temple visit, it can be worth asking:

Will this location make the temple day peaceful?
Can I get there without unnecessary stress?
Is it safe and practical for the people travelling?
Is there space to rest, pray, and prepare?

Sometimes the right accommodation is part of the worship, because it allows the heart to arrive quietly.

What Else Is Nearby?

Accra is not only a place to pass through on the way to the temple. It is a city with history, culture, faith, memory, and life.

For visitors who have time beyond the temple visit, there are several places that may add meaning to the journey.

Independence Square, also known as Black Star Square, is one of Accra’s most recognisable civic landmarks and connects visitors with Ghana’s national story.

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park offers a deeper sense of Ghana’s modern history and independence.

The W.E.B. Du Bois Centre provides another reflective place connected with history, identity, and the African diaspora.

Osu is a lively district with shops, restaurants, and a different side of city life.

For a gentler visit, some travellers may prefer time in a café, a quiet walk, or simply resting after the temple rather than trying to see too much.

That is worth saying.

A temple trip does not need to become a sightseeing schedule. Sometimes the best use of extra time is to sit quietly, write a few lines in a journal, talk with family, or let the experience settle.

The purpose is not to rush through Accra.

The purpose is to let the temple be the spiritual centre of the journey.

A Temple in the Heart of West Africa

One of the most beautiful things about the Accra Ghana Temple is what it represents.

It stands in a city that is full of movement: traffic, markets, business, politics, families, noise, heat, colour, and energy. Yet within that busy setting is a house of the Lord.

That contrast can teach us something.

The temple is not removed from life because discipleship is not removed from life. We do not come to Christ by escaping the world entirely. We come to Him so that we can return to ordinary life with more light, more peace, and more covenant strength.

Accra reminds us that sacredness can stand in the middle of a busy city.

It can stand near roads and offices.
It can stand near airport journeys and hotel bookings.
It can stand near history and modern life.
It can stand among Saints who have waited, served, sacrificed, and believed.

And perhaps that is part of the message for us.

The Lord can place sacred things in the middle of our ordinary lives too.

A prayer before work.
A scripture read on a tired morning.
A family name prepared quietly.
A decision to forgive.
A desire to return to the temple.
A small act of covenant faithfulness when no one else sees.

The temple gathers all of that and points it towards Christ.

The Journey as Worship

Because Accra is part of the Temple Travel Compass focus, it invites us to think about temple travel in a fuller way.

A temple journey is practical, but it is also spiritual.

We may need to think about flights, hotels, transport, temple appointments, clothing, documents, health, cost, and timing. Those things matter. Poor planning can make a sacred trip feel unnecessarily stressful.

But beneath the practical planning is a deeper invitation.

How will I prepare my heart?
Who am I taking with me in memory or family history?
What burden do I want to place before the Lord?
What promise do I need to remember?
What kind of person do I want to be when I return?

Those questions can turn travel into worship.

The journey to the temple can become a time of preparation. The journey home can become a time of reflection.

Sometimes the Lord teaches us not only inside the temple, but on the way there and on the way back.

What struck me most as I reflected on the Accra Ghana Temple was not simply that it is a temple in another part of the world. It was the thought of what it must have meant for faithful Saints in West Africa to have a house of the Lord closer to home.

For many of us, temple worship still takes planning. It may mean an early start, a long drive, time off work, family arrangements, transport, meals, tiredness, or cost. But for some Saints, the coming of a temple represents something even deeper: years of waiting, praying, hoping, and continuing in faith.

That made me pause.

Sometimes I think we can become so used to having sacred things available that we forget what a blessing access really is. A chapel nearby. Scriptures in our own language. A temple within reach. Family history tools on a phone. A recommend interview available through local leaders. A covenant path we can keep walking, even if life itself feels complicated.

The Accra Ghana Temple reminds me that the Lord’s work is both global and deeply personal. He gathers nations, but He also gathers individuals. He remembers continents, but He also remembers families. He builds temples, but He is also building faith in ordinary people, one quiet decision at a time.

This week, I find myself asking a simple question:

Am I treating the blessings within my reach as blessings?

Not with guilt. Not with pressure. Just with gratitude.

Because sometimes the first step back towards the temple is not a journey across a city or a country. Sometimes it is simply allowing our hearts to remember what the Lord has already placed within reach.

You can still turn your heart towards the house of the Lord.

You can still participate in gathering through family history.
You can still seek the peace that points you towards Christ.

The Lord sees both the journey and the desire.

Whether the temple is close to home or across an ocean, every faithful step towards the house of the Lord is also a step towards Jesus Christ.

Opening Reflection

Some weeks do not arrive with great drama.

There may be no major announcement, no obvious turning point, no powerful experience that immediately feels worth writing down.

There is just life.

Work to do.
People to care for.
Appointments to keep.
Meals to arrange.
Messages to answer.
Heat to endure.
Tiredness to manage.
Prayers that may feel brief.
Scriptures that may be read in small portions.
Faith that sometimes feels quieter than we expected.

And yet, much of discipleship is lived there.

Not only in the moments that feel spiritual, but in the ordinary hours where we choose, again and again, to turn our hearts towards the Lord.

Sometimes we imagine spiritual growth as something dramatic. A breakthrough. A clear answer. A sudden change of heart.

Those moments do come.

But more often, the Lord shapes us through small and simple things.

A little patience.
A quiet prayer.
A kind word.
A choice to keep going.
A decision not to give up.
A moment of gratitude in the middle of an ordinary day.

Alma taught:

“By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.”
Alma 37:6

That is a hopeful truth.

It means that an ordinary day is not a wasted day.

It means that quiet faith still matters.

It means that the Lord can be present in the middle of normal life — not only when everything feels peaceful, prepared, or profound.

This week’s LDS Compass is a Special Edition because June has a fifth Monday. Rather than treating that as a spare week, perhaps it gives us space to pause.

To breathe.

To look back.

To notice.

To ask where the Lord has already been walking with us, even in places we may not have recognised at the time.

Finding the Lord in Ordinary Days

Faith is not only found at the pulpit, in the classroom, or inside the temple.

It is also found in kitchens, cars, workplaces, waiting rooms, school runs, hospital corridors, supermarket aisles, quiet bedrooms, and tired conversations at the end of a long day.

The Lord does not only meet us when life feels perfectly ordered.

He meets us where we are.

Sometimes that is in a peaceful sacrament meeting.

Sometimes it is in the temple.

Sometimes it is beside a hospital bed.

Sometimes it is in a car park, a coffee shop, or a hot and weary afternoon when we are simply trying to gather ourselves.

Ordinary discipleship may not always look impressive from the outside. But heaven sees it.

The parent who stays patient when they are exhausted.
The member who comes to church carrying private worries.
The person who prays even when they do not know what to say.
The friend who checks in quietly.
The disciple who keeps a small commitment when a large one feels too much.

These things matter.

They may not feel like grand spiritual achievements. But they are often the very places where faith becomes real.

The Lord is not waiting for us to have a perfect routine before He can bless us.

He is not waiting for our lives to become calm before He can guide us.

He is not waiting for us to feel strong before He can strengthen us.

He works with willingness.

He works with small offerings.

He works with ordinary days.

A Gentle Mid-Year Review

As we reach the end of June, this is a natural time to pause and look back over the first half of the year.

Not as a performance review.

Not as a reason to feel guilty.

Not as a long list of everything we meant to do but did not quite manage.

A spiritual mid-year review can be much gentler than that.

It can be a quiet moment with the Lord.

A chance to ask:

• Where have I felt His help this year?

• What has He carried me through?

• What have I learned about myself?

• What has strengthened my faith?

• Where have I felt stretched, refined, or humbled?

• What small blessings have I overlooked?

• What would I like to carry more carefully into the second half of the year?

Some answers may come quickly.

Others may come slowly.

And some may not feel clear until we look back much later.

But there is value in pausing.

The pace of life can make us move from one thing to the next without ever noticing what the Lord has already done.

A mid-year review helps us remember.

It helps us see patterns.

It helps us recognise quiet growth.

It may also help us adjust.

This kind of review is not about measuring ourselves harshly.

It is about noticing the Lord’s hand.

It is about asking Him to help us walk into the next six months with a little more faith, a little more clarity, and a little more trust.

Faith When We Feel Tired, Overwhelmed, or Overheated

There are times when we are not only spiritually tired.

We are physically tired.

Emotionally stretched.

Mentally full.

Overheated by the weather, by pressure, by family needs, by work, by uncertainty, by the constant noise of modern life.

In those moments, even simple things can feel harder.

Prayer can feel scattered.

Scripture study can feel beyond us.

Patience can feel thinner.

Our capacity can feel smaller than usual.

And when that happens, it is easy to mistake tiredness for spiritual failure.

But they are not the same thing.

Being tired does not mean we are faithless.

Feeling overwhelmed does not mean we are failing.

Needing rest does not mean we are weak.

Even the Saviour recognised the need to withdraw, rest, pray, and be renewed. He showed compassion to the weary. He noticed hunger, sickness, grief, and exhaustion. He ministered to people as whole souls, not simply as minds to be taught or duties to be completed.

So perhaps one act of faith this week is to be honest about our limits.

To slow down where we can.

To drink water.

To rest when possible.

To pray simply rather than perfectly.

To read a verse rather than abandon scripture entirely.

To offer the Lord what we have, even when what we have feels small.

A tired prayer is still a prayer.

A short scripture is still scripture.

A quiet act of kindness is still discipleship.

A small turning towards Christ is still a holy thing.

Faith does not always sound confident and strong.

Sometimes it sounds like:

“Lord, help me through today.”

And that is enough to begin.

This edition began in a very ordinary way.

A hot Friday.

A sense of having no clear idea what to write.

And perhaps that is exactly why this theme matters.

We do not always begin with inspiration fully formed. Sometimes we begin with willingness. Sometimes we begin by showing up. Sometimes we begin by asking, “What might be useful? What might encourage someone? What might help a reader feel that the Lord is still near?”

That, too, is part of discipleship.

The Lord can work with our ordinary moments.

He can work with our tiredness.

He can work with our half-formed thoughts, our simple prayers, our small efforts, and our desire to do some good.

As we reach the middle of the year, I hope we can each find a little space to look back with gratitude and forward with faith.

Not because everything is easy.

But because Christ is steady.

And because even in ordinary days, He is still there.

This week, take ten quiet minutes for your own gentle mid-year review.

You may wish to write down three simple things:

1. Where have I seen the Lord’s hand during the first half of this year?

2. What is one burden I want to place more fully before Him?

3. What is one small and faithful step I can take into the next six months?

Then, during the week, try to pause once each day and ask:

Where did I see the Lord in something ordinary today?

It may be a conversation.

A moment of peace.

A small prompting.

A practical blessing.

A little strength when you needed it.

A reminder that you are not walking alone.

The Lord is not only found in the extraordinary. Very often, He meets us quietly in the ordinary places where we are already standing.

Strengthening Testimony Through FamilySearch

FamilySearch can begin very simply.

We may log in to look at a family tree.
We may check a hint.
We may search for a missing date.
We may prepare a name for the temple.

But as we keep going, something begins to happen.

The work moves from the screen to the heart.

We begin to feel that these are not just records.

They are brothers and sisters.
Parents and children.
Husbands and wives.
Families who lived, worked, struggled, hoped, loved, and endured.

And slowly, our testimony can deepen.

Not because we suddenly understand everything.

But because we begin to feel the Lord’s hand in the work.

FamilySearch is not just about building a tree.

It is about recognising that every soul matters to God.

When a Name Becomes Personal

Recently, I was reminded of this in a very simple but powerful way.

I had booked to attend three endowment sessions in one day and printed three family name cards in preparation.

At first, I did not look too closely at the details.

But the day before, I realised something that moved me deeply.

The three names were not random.

They were three brothers.

The same parents.
The same family.
Three sons.

There was something deeply touching about that.

It changed the way I saw those temple visits.

This was not simply three separate ordinances.

It felt like part of a larger family story.

Three brothers being remembered.
Three brothers being served.
Three brothers being brought closer to their family.

And this week, the hope is to continue that work by sealing them to their parents.

That is what makes this work so sacred.

It is not simply about completing a name.

It is about helping families come together.

Gathering Israel, One Family at a Time

President Russell M. Nelson has repeatedly taught that gathering Israel is the most important work taking place on the earth today.

Sometimes we may hear that phrase and think of missionary work.

And it certainly includes that.

But gathering Israel also includes temple and family history work.

It includes those who came before us.

It includes those whose names have been forgotten by the world but remembered by God.

It includes those whose stories may never have been written down, but whose lives still matter eternally.

When we search, prepare, and serve in the temple, we are participating in something much bigger than ourselves.

We are helping to gather the family of God.

One record.
One name.
One ordinance.
One family.
One act of love at a time.

A Quiet Testimony Builder

One of the great blessings of FamilySearch is that it can strengthen testimony quietly.

Not always dramatically.

Not always with a great spiritual experience.

But steadily.

It teaches us that the Lord is organised in His work.

It teaches us that no one is forgotten.

It teaches us that families matter beyond mortality.

It teaches us that covenants reach across generations.

It teaches us that we are connected to something much larger than our own immediate circumstances.

One of the things I am learning is that family history work changes when we stop seeing it as a process and begin seeing it as people.

There is a difference between printing a card and remembering a person.

There is a difference between completing a task and helping gather a family.

There is a difference between looking at a name and wondering who they were.

That is what touched me as I realised the three names I had prepared were brothers.

Suddenly, the work felt more personal.

More connected.

More sacred.

And it reminded me again that the Lord is in the details of this work.

Sometimes we may think we are choosing names.

But perhaps, more often than we realise, we are being gently led.

Best Days and Worst Days - The Message in Brief

President Freeman’s message begins with a deeply human contrast.

A moment filled with anticipation.

And then, almost in the same breath, the return of serious illness.

It is a reminder that mortality often holds joy and sorrow close together.

Life does not always arrive in neat chapters. Sometimes the best days and the worst days overlap. Sometimes gratitude and grief sit in the same room. Sometimes we are trying to celebrate one blessing while quietly carrying another burden.

That is not a sign that faith has failed.

It is part of mortality.

President Freeman’s message invites us to see that discipleship is not built only in peaceful seasons. It is formed as we keep walking with Christ through changing circumstances.

On our best days, we can recognise His goodness.

Peter and the Making of a Disciple

One of the central threads in President Freeman’s message is the Apostle Peter.

Peter’s story matters because it is not simple.

He was faithful, courageous, impulsive, teachable, afraid, bold, and human.

And yet the Lord did not define Peter by one moment.

The Lord is patient with the process of becoming.

Eternal Truths

One of the most helpful parts of this message is the reminder that we need eternal truths to steady us.

When life becomes difficult, we need something deeper than mood, circumstance, or emotion.

We need truths that do not move when everything else feels uncertain.

Truths such as:

• Jesus Christ lives.

• He knows us personally.

• Repentance is real.

• Covenants connect us to divine power.

• The Holy Ghost can guide us.

• Our worth does not rise and fall with our circumstances.

• God keeps His promises.

• Mortality is not the end of the story.

These truths do not always remove the difficulty immediately.

But they can give us somewhere firm to stand.

On good days, they help us remember where blessings come from.

On hard days, they help us remember that we are not abandoned.

President Freeman’s message gently reminds us that testimony is strengthened as we return to truth again and again.

Not once.

Not only when life is calm.

But day after day.

Best days and worst days.

When Invitations Become Harder

The Lord’s invitations are not always easy.

Sometimes:

• He invites us to forgive when hurt still feels close.

• He invites us to trust when the future is unclear.

• He invites us to serve when we feel tired.

• He invites us to repent when pride would rather explain things away.

• He invites us to keep walking when we would rather stop.

That is one of the searching questions in this talk:

What invitations from the Lord become harder as life becomes more difficult?

It is worth sitting with that question.

Because discipleship is not only about what we believe when life is going well.

It is also about what we choose when things are uncertain.

Do we still pray?

Do we still open the scriptures?

Do we still come to sacrament meeting?

Do we still look for the hand of the Lord?

Do we still try to be kind?

Do we still hold onto Christ?

These are not dramatic acts.

But they are holy ones.

They are the quiet evidence of faith.

A Thought to Hold Onto

Because of Jesus Christ, our worst days do not get the final word.

That does not mean every sorrow disappears quickly.

It does not mean every question is answered immediately.

It does not mean discipleship becomes easy.

But it does mean that hope is never foolish.

It means that the Saviour is present in the middle of real life.

It means that the promise of redemption is stronger than the pain of mortality.

It means that no difficult season has power to cancel the love of God.

President Freeman’s message is not shallow optimism.

It is covenant hope.

• The kind of hope that can sit beside hospital beds.

• The kind of hope that can walk through grief.

• The kind of hope that can steady ordinary disciples on very ordinary difficult days.

Because of Christ, our story is still unfolding.

And because of Christ, the best is not behind us.

Where have I seen the Lord help me through both good days and difficult days?

Which eternal truths have steadied me most in recent months?

What invitation from the Lord am I currently finding harder to accept?

That is not failure.

Sometimes the miracle is that we keep walking with Christ through it.

I think many of us need that reminder.

We do not need to pretend every day is wonderful.

We do not need to have everything neatly resolved before we come to the Lord.

We come as we are.

On the best days.
On the worst days.
And on all the ordinary days in between.

And He walks with us.

Faith That Helps Us Flourish

One of the blessings of the gospel is that it gives shape to ordinary life.

It does not remove every difficulty.
It does not make us immune from grief, anxiety, disappointment, illness, loneliness, or uncertainty.

But it does give us a way to live through those things with Christ at the centre.

Faith gives us a reason to pray.
A reason to repent.
A reason to forgive.
A reason to serve.
A reason to hope.
A reason to believe that today is not the whole story.

In the Book of Mormon, King Benjamin taught his people to “consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God.”

That phrase is worth sitting with.

A blessed and happy state does not mean a life without trouble. King Benjamin’s people still had real lives, real families, real weaknesses, and real pressures.

But he was teaching that covenant living brings a kind of steadiness the world cannot easily give.

There is peace in knowing who we are.
There is strength in knowing whom we follow.
There is hope in knowing that Jesus Christ is real, present, merciful, and involved in our lives.

Welcome Corner

If you are new to the Church, returning after time away, or simply exploring faith, please do not feel that you have to understand everything immediately.

Faith often grows gently.

You may begin with one prayer.
One scripture verse.
One Sunday meeting.
One honest question.
One conversation with someone you trust.
One small step towards Christ.

That is enough for today.

The Lord does not ask us to become fully formed disciples overnight.

He asks us to come unto Him.

And then He walks with us.

A Quiet Reminder from Recent Research

Recently, some attention has been given to the Global Flourishing Study, a large research project involving Harvard, Baylor, Gallup, and the Center for Open Science. The study follows around 200,000 people across 22 countries and looks at areas such as happiness, health, meaning, character, relationships, and financial stability.

Commentary on the study has noted that Latter-day Saints appear to score strongly in several areas of flourishing, particularly where faith, family, belonging, and religious practice are part of everyday life.

For us, this should not become a moment of pride.

It should become a moment of gratitude.

Not “look how good we are,” but perhaps:

Look what the Lord is trying to build among us.

A community where children are prayed with.
A people who gather weekly to remember Jesus Christ.
A faith that encourages service, family, repentance, covenant, sacrifice, and hope.
A pattern of life that keeps pointing us back to the Saviour.

That does not mean every Latter-day Saint family is perfect.
It does not mean every ward feels easy.
It does not mean every member is thriving all the time.

Many are carrying hidden burdens.

But it does remind us that the small, repeated practices of discipleship matter.

Family prayer matters.
Scripture study matters.
Church attendance matters.
Ministering matters.
Temple worship matters.
Teaching children that they are loved by Heavenly Parents matters.
Helping new members feel they belong matters.

These things may seem ordinary in the moment, but over time they shape souls.

The Gospel Is Not Just Believed. It Is Lived.

There is a difference between admiring the gospel and living it.

We can admire kindness without forgiving.
We can admire prayer without praying.
We can admire scripture without opening the book.
We can admire service without noticing the person beside us.

Discipleship invites us to move from admiration to action.

Not perfectly.
Not all at once.
Not with guilt or pressure.

But steadily.

Perhaps the great strength of the restored gospel is that it gives us a pattern for everyday faith.

We worship each Sabbath.
We renew covenants through the sacrament.
We pray in homes.
We learn from prophets and apostles.
We serve in callings.
We minister one by one.
We seek our ancestors.
We prepare for and return to the temple.
We try again when we fall short.

The world often celebrates speed, noise, image, and achievement.

The gospel quietly forms people through consistency, humility, love, and grace.

That may not always look dramatic.

But it is deeply powerful.

I have been thinking this week about the quiet power of ordinary faith.

Not the kind of faith that always feels dramatic or certain.

But the kind that keeps showing up.

The prayer offered when we are tired.
The scripture read when our mind is busy.
The sacrament taken with a humble heart.
The small act of kindness no one else sees.
The decision to keep trusting the Lord, even when life still feels unfinished.

Sometimes we may wonder whether these small things really make a difference.

But I think they do.

One thing I have noticed over the years is that I often leave the temple with a single word in my mind.

It might come from something I hear.

It might come from a scripture.

It might arise during a quiet moment of reflection.

At the time, the word often seems quite simple.

Often, I do not fully understand why it stands out.

But over the following days, I find myself returning to it.

Thinking about it.

Praying about it.

Reflecting on what it might mean.

And then, that single word becomes part of a much larger message.

A reminder.

An invitation.

A prompt to make a change.

Or simply reassurance that I am on the right path.

I have learned not to dismiss those small impressions.

At other times, we hear brief glimpses of people’s faith journeys.

We may know very little about their circumstances.

Yet those moments can remind us that the Lord is working in the lives of His children everywhere.

The temple is not simply a place where ordinances occur.

It is a place where faith is strengthened, hope is renewed, and hearts are lifted.

After You Leave

The temple experience does not end when we leave the building.

Nor does it end when we arrive home.

Many of the impressions we receive need time to settle.

Understanding comes later.

The message becomes clearer over the following days.

An answer arrives in a completely unexpected way.

That is why it can be valuable to reflect after each visit.

• What did I feel?

• What did I learn?

• What stood out to me?

• What should I do differently?

FamilySearch Is Changing Faster Than Many People Realise

One of the most interesting developments in recent months is how quickly FamilySearch is improving its search and discovery tools.

Many members may still think of family history as slow manual research.

Hours scrolling through records.
Complex searches.
Difficulty reading old handwriting.

But that is beginning to change significantly.

FamilySearch is now expanding its AI-assisted Full-Text Search technology, allowing old handwritten records to become searchable in entirely new ways.

This means records that were previously extremely difficult to find may now appear much more easily in searches.

And importantly, this is helping ordinary members, not just experienced genealogists, make discoveries much faster.

Some of the recent developments include:

• Expanded full-text search across historical handwritten documents

💛 Keith’s Corner

Today turned into a very special day at the temple.

Originally, I wasn’t even planning to go this weekend. I normally attend once a month, but a friend hoped to come today, so I scheduled an additional visit - it’s a 120-mile round trip I schedule on my day off. A few days ago, he had to cancel because of family commitments, and I could easily have cancelled too.

But I decided to go anyway.

I’m very grateful that I did.

Today I completed two endowment sessions and six sealings in one session, and several of those sealings were deeply emotional for me.

One involved children being sealed to parents after being separated for generations. Another involved tiny children who died before they were old enough for any other temple ordinances. Their only ordinance was to be sealed eternally to their families.

As I sat there today, I realised again that family history is far more than simply connecting names and boxes on a computer screen.

Temple work is about spiritually reconnecting families.

It is about gathering Israel.
It is about healing separation.
It is about bringing husbands, wives, parents, children, brothers, and sisters back together eternally.

That feels incredibly sacred to me.

Over recent months, I’ve felt more and more strongly that this work connects deeply with my patriarchal blessing, ministering one by one, strengthening people, helping reconnect what has been lost or separated.

I left the temple today spiritually energised, peaceful, and very grateful that I still chose to come, even after the original plans changed.

Sometimes the days we almost cancel become the days we most need.

You do not have to solve everything this week.

Opening Reflection

Easter has now passed us by.

Over the last few weeks, many of us have paused to reflect on the Saviour’s resurrection - what it means, and why it matters.

At the same time, we’ve been taught and reminded through the General Conference that coincided with Easter this year.

And now comes the quiet question that follows both:

What does it actually mean to live differently because of Christ?

President Dallin H. Oaks invites us into that question with a simple but searching phrase:

“Alive in Christ.”

Not just believing in Him.
But living because of Him.

The Message in Brief

This talk unfolds in a clear and powerful progression - one that moves from belief, to perspective, to action.

It is not complicated.

But it is deeply challenging.

It reflects on three key phases.

1. The Resurrection Changes How We Live

President Oaks begins with something we already believe:

The literal Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Not symbolic.
Not selective.
But complete - and universal.

This is settled doctrine. And yet, he gently asks us to consider:

Do we fully appreciate what this actually means?

If death is not the end…

If identity continues…

If relationships endure…

Then everything about mortality shifts.

• Challenges become temporary

• Loss is reframed with hope

• Family responsibilities take on eternal meaning

Being “alive in Christ” begins here:

Not just believing in the Resurrection, but living as if it is true.

Because if we are honest, it is possible to believe in the Resurrection…
and still live as though everything depends on this life alone.

We worry as if outcomes are final.
We carry burdens as if they will never lift.
We sometimes measure success as if eternity were not part of the picture.

The doctrine is settled.
The question is whether it has settled in us.

2. Seeing People Differently

From belief, the talk moves into something more searching.

How we see people.

Christ’s teaching is clear - we are to love not only our neighbour, but even our enemies.

Or, as President Oaks reframes it for our day:

Our adversaries.

The story of the nurse and the difficult patient brings this into sharp focus.

Nothing about the situation changed.

But in a single moment, her perspective did.

She no longer saw a difficult man.
She saw a child of God.

And everything followed from that.

This is where the talk becomes personal.

Because it is one thing to believe that all are children of God.

It is something else entirely to see someone that way
when they have hurt us, frustrated us, or simply worn us down over time.

The nurse’s situation didn’t change.

But her heart did.

And that is often where the real change begins for us.

So the quiet question becomes:

Who do I struggle to see that way - not in theory, but in reality?

3. Choosing to Be Peacemakers

Finally, President Oaks turns to how we respond.

We live in a world where contention is common.

Not just in public life - but in homes, workplaces, and conversations.

And the question is not whether contention exists.

The question is:

What do we contribute to it?

Not in theory - but in conversations, messages, reactions, and tone.

Because sometimes we do not see ourselves as contentious.

We see ourselves as right.

And in doing so, we can justify words or attitudes
that are neither kind nor Christlike.

Peacemaking does not mean stepping away from truth.

But it does mean asking:

Can I defend what is right without losing what is Christlike?

Searching Questions

This talk invites reflection more than resolution.

You might consider:

• Do I truly live as if the Resurrection is real - or only believe it in principle?

• Is there someone I need to see differently - as a child of God first?

• Where might I be adding to contention rather than reducing it?

• What would it look like, this week, to be a peacemaker in one specific situation?

And ask:

“What would a peacemaker do here?”

Then act on it — quietly, deliberately, and without needing recognition.

Being “alive in Christ” is not something we prove in a moment - or even in what we say.

It is something that quietly shapes how we live.

It shows in how we carry hope when life is difficult.
In how we see people when it would be easier to judge.
And in how we respond when we have every reason to react.

The Resurrection reminds us that this life is not the end.
But this teaching reminds us that how we live this life still matters deeply.

So perhaps the question we carry forward is a simple one:

Not just “Do I believe in Christ?”

but

“Can others feel that I am alive in Him?”
