As a leader, when faced with challenges, one must keep moving and not give up , when you give up , it shows that you do not have the inner power to fight challenges that come your way, as a leader, one must be versatile, one must be agile and diverse, in that if plan A fails, then you are able to use plan B and C respectively and one must also be able to think critically especially coming up with new ideas and also come up with new solutions to real life problems, Not giving up saw Elon Musk come up with Tesla cars despite almost going bankrupt in his innovation bid, one of the best technology savvy cars, resilience saw Oprah Winfrey become one of the most renown Global Media Moguls, despite losing her first TV job , and not giving up saw Steve Jobs grow Apple ,one of the most valued company’s globally, and he came up with revolutionary products and was able to redefine modern Technology , Do not give up ! Keep fighting

It has been a minute since we last had a conversation on here !

I hope you are doing well , I am well too and excited about starting the new year !

My mantra this year is accepting the things that I cannot change and having gratitude for the things that I can actually change and working hard towards creating the change and impact I want to see in the community .

As a person who is pro change , pro development , pro - impacting lives , I want to be more active in activities that create social impact in the lives of people I interact with on a day to day basis .

I want to hold conversations that will transform people’s lives .

I want to talk more about mental health and how we can prioritize and be open about saying, look am struggling mentally and I need therapy ,no victimization, we need to create awareness , create avenues of accessing therapy and social and mental support .

We need to do more about Menstrual hygiene now that the governemnet has not yet implemented free sanitary towels for our girls , despite all the lobbying !

We need to do more talks about academic excellence in our schools ,Education still remains the key to success , even if they changed the padlock !

We need to provide guidance and counselling to our teans who are still re-discovering themselves

And most importantly we need to preach the gospel of Jesus to all who want to hear the good news of the savior !

As we gear up to a great year ahead , May we all aspire to have work life balance, as we work, let us create time for exercise, for rest , for entertainment for social time and most importantly for family .

Remember when all is said and done , Family is all you got !

Treasure your family, give them all that they need and you can afford .

Empower and motivate our employees , that way they feel appreciated and are able to give the effort for the business and thus boost profitability and business growth .This is achieved through proper remuneration and rainings and teambuildings and rewarding good work and compensating them for going the extra mile.

1.Proper remuneration - pay them well and early , not late salaries, ensure rates are compeitive with current market rates for similar jobs , this can be attained by comparing salaries with consultants data at your disposal .

2. Create a conducive working enviroment for your employees , don't be a toxic boss

3.Avoid micro - managing your employees ,Don't be Manager By walking around (MBWA),Be a Manager by Objective (MBO)

4.Offer incentives to best performing employees, this helps have a motivated work force,it makes others work hard .

5.Training - offer free traunings for your employees to help upskill them , it can be on the job or off the job training .This shows the employees that you care and it boosts productivity and performance.

6.Promote from within for roles other than external recruiting - it gives employees hope of career growth thus boosting retention .

7.Do job rotation - This helps you as a suervisor identify and nurture talents amongst your employees and position them for career growth .

When you have your goals and objectives well laid out then achieving them becomes easy , because you have internalize what you need to achieve at the end of the day and therefore you put in the work ,the effort and the hours .

When we talk of goal setting the acronym SMART comes up , Goals should be Smart ,Measurable,Achievable ,Relevant and Time bound .

Have a time frame in which you intend to accomplish your goals ,this helps you remain focused and avoid distractions .

Goals should also be accurate and realistic, not far fetched ,they should be something within your performance capability .

Stay committed to your goals and objectives and your good performance will shine bright !

In as much as you strike and create a relationship because the client feels vulnerable and open to you,you as a therapist should draw boundaries and avoid being carried away by a client's feelings . Know how to respond to such advances.

Have empathy on the client,put yourself in their shoes but do not show sympathy .

Don't judge the client harshly ,help them feel valued ,respected and listened to.

Uphold confidentiality,don't diverge a client's issues to third parties .

Help people battling stress, depression and mental health issues around you .

Let them know they can trust you and share in their problems .

Build complete appreciation of the clients triggers and behavior.

Do all this with a smile and kindness.

Being prepared at all times is one thing that we should all aspire to achieve.

Be prepared as you wait for that job offer, for that promoton , equip yourself with all the necessary skils that are required for the job you are praying for .Don't be the person who is praying for a car and yet you do not have a driving licence ,you don't even know how to drive a car .

Don't be the person praying God for a job outside the country and you do not even have a ready passport !

Go get the qualification needed ,do it now do not procrastinate !

Don't let opportuities pass you because you were not ready .

Some opportunities come only once in a lifetime ! Always be ready !

In life you go through stuff that teaches you to be intentional in life and to prioritise yourself , draw healthy boundaries in your relationships .Among all this, Celebrating Milestones is one thing I am so deliberate about !

I will celebrate Milestones however small because it's these victories that fuel my motivation and keep my momentum to achieve more going !!

Yesterday I started a new class and as we were doing introduction my new classmates were wowed at how many courses I have done and finished and I still have the zeal, energy and motivation to add some more !

Why you may ask ?It is because Academics is one thing dear to me and adding an extra feather to my already colourful crown feels good , satifsfying and fulfilling !

Hearing my classmates say wow ! as I finished my introduction was one of the AHA moments of my life !

And since Rome was not built in a day ,I continue to build the Rome I so deserve for myself !

I cant wait to use the Prefix Dr. on my name ,slowly we are getting there !

Happy new year my readers ! What new course do you wonna pursue this year ?

Some m3n are not comfortable sending child support without some unreasonable demands et cetera .So to avoid emotional manipulation from the other gender , make peace and let him stay with the kids as you get yourself together instead of struggling vending for the kids in event the man aint manning up .

This issue of coparenting needs very sober , mature adults , which is not common in our African set up , ours is a competition , who has more money , how can I frustrate you more by not supporting you financially , it's a western concept that we are copying and we seem not to get the basics correct .

While at it , innocent kids should not suffer because two adults cant agree to support them if the mum stays with them or if the mother refuses to be intimate with the father .

The moment you are not able to respect each other and put boundaries in your relationship ,it hinders speedy healing and it can be traumatising ,It also pauses a challenge of either party being able to move on with their life due to soo much emotional baggage .

Take time to heal ,so that you do not bleed on people that did not hurt you .There is more to life than being in a struggling relationship for the kids sake, they also notice you are not happy and this affects them even in academic performance .

In a co-parenting set up , both parents ought to spend quality time with the kinds with no condition whatsoever, you just have to ensure the kids are safe and the other parent is 100% responsible for their wellbeing .No hurting innocent kids .

Do you get the drift ?

Such selfishness is why we are having bleeding parents extending their frustration to innocent kids .

Kindly try and balance the two side for the wellbeing of innocent kids .

Navigating grief, after loosing my dearest Cucu

The loss of a loved one is painful, it’s a deep sting that pinches hard! And we all hope that we humans would be immortal , if only we were .

I did not know the more you love a person when they are alive the more their demise hurts .

I loved my Cucu so much , in fact   I adored her and losing her never crossed my mind .When she fell ill and had to be caged in the house without much mobility ,I made it my duty to visit her every month ,some months even twice , because I loved to see her, hug her , laugh with her and even cook chapati for  her when she missed some .

She was this happy Soul, always loving and generous .

Each time I got a moment to pray , the first person I always prayed for even before I pour my problems to God was my Cucu , My prayer always began with ..’’Heavenly Father I thank you for a new day and for the breath of life, good health and family ,In a special way I pray for my Grand mother ,Lord may you restore her health, for the glory of your Holy name !’’ Amen . That was religiously my starting phrase each and every moment  I prayed .I was always grateful that God always heard my prayers .

However on 22 nd January after a very jolly Christmas with Cucu, she rested , away from  pain she slept to eternity .Well it was not easy for me receiving the devastating news , but with time I have learnt to accept and learn to live with the loss .

You know one thing people do not know, however old someone was, she still  meant the world to people that loved  her .You know that moment  someone learns of the loss and they think saying ahh ‘’ huyo alikuwa mzee’ or ohh that one had exceeded the life expectancy age, well those are not the kindest words to tell a grieving person .Sometimes all they need is a hug and no words at all .

Navigating through grief is hard , at times you wake up crying ,other times singing the songs the departed loved, memories here and there , so really the best thing to do is avoid solitude, avoid being alone , because when you are alone that is when you slide into sadness .

Keep yourself busy , keep your mind occupied , always pray for God to grant you peace and to help you accept and get closure because it’s not easy . some people say it gets better with time, yes it is true for some but each person has their own healing journey, respect that and allow them heal their way without castigating them ,it’s a very personal journey for different people  .

My prayer for all that have gone through grief in one way or the other, is that ,may we always extend grace to ourselves, our families and to all people at Large .

We continue being hopeful that indeed resurrection is real and one day we will be re-joined with our loved ones .

I love my Cucu even when she is in heaven.

Each day I remember her and pray that her soul rests in eternal peace .

The aspect of goal setting and setting new year resolutions has kind of become cliché.

This is because of how many people make fun of setting goals that are never met.

However, this is a very important bit of the year, because if you do not know  where you are going, then any way is the right way!

On the contrary, when you know where you are going, you always remain focused on getting to your destination. This is to mean that for you to get results for the new year, then you need to lay down goals and objectives that you anticipate to attain come December.

It is important to write them down, so that you always have a reference point and also it helps you hold yourself accountable and also aids during self-evaluation.

This cuts across all sectors of your life, be it in business, be it in academics or even in your job. Always set goals, and then stay focused to see them to accomplishment.

While at it ,always remember that procrastination is the thief of time, always handle tasks as they fall due and in order of priority, that way you avoid  work piling up and consequently avoid backlog .

Most of the time when setting goals, finances are a major hindrance especially when aspiring to start a business or a project. However it is advisable to start with what you have and grow gradually and progressively.

If for example you want to start a business with a capital of Ksh 500,000 and at hand you have Ksh 250,000, start with what you have and grow from there. Once you have active income flowing into your account then you have a good cashflow history that can guarantee you to be credit worthy and you can access credit funding to grow your business.

If you need to start a course and finances are a challenge, pay in instalments and before the term or semester is over then you will have managed to clear fees .

Remember a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step !

Get a note book , write down your goals and work towards achieving each and everyone of them !

I went to boarding school in class 6, well it was my decision because I thought to myself ,I would have more ample time to read and concentrate which I did .

Perhaps I had a good experience because it was a private school near home and my sister was a day scholar at the same school so homesick was not rampant .

My dad would occasionally drop my baby sister to school in the morning and I would see Elnino ( my Dad's Nissan ) from the gate and run like a deer to go give my dad a hug ( how sweet )

Visiting days my whole family would come and my grandparents would not be left behind, wueh ( my cush would give me 20 boob pocket money and the feeling of gratitude was immense .My maternal cush was sonkore ,she would even give me 200 and that felt like a fortune heheheh.

My mother would bring a buffet of all delicacies and she never came late , what am trying to say is that it was a memorable experience .

The downside of it which was traumatic is how the teachers would ransack our metal boxes after visiting days and carry all our snacks yawa !!

on this particular day Elnino passed by , daddy brought me a loaf of bread and Quencher 1 litre orange juice, as fate would have it ,the check up happened same day and my juis was abducted !

Ladies and gentlemen that day I cried a river, at least I had eaten half the loaf, but still I crode and crode for my juis and cursed that Teacher. To date , I think I still hold a grudge against that mwalim

We performed well, and our school was a well balanced,christian , holistic institution

Proud alumni ,Betty Academy ...In pursuit of excellence God is good !

Business is booming when it comes to money lending .However desperate you are for money , may your desperation never lead you to these quick fix lenders , because they are just sophisticated , polished Shylocks ! merciless shylocks in make up !

Yes , I have said it !

These are people who have no good intentions with you , some lend with interest rates as high as 30 % per month , folks that is 360 % per annum ! That is how you end up paying thrice the principal borrowed .

These People will promise you Instant cash , but when you look at how much you repay ,you will get high blood pressure and depression combined !

The catch is that these ''Credit only microfinances have MOUs with some employers,so their paperwork is in order and you cannot jump out of the trap !

I know you all know those 24 hr loans anga logbooks loan outfits !

When you see them run like a cheetah !

Only borrow from a sacco , bank or a friend !

Ni hayo tu kwa sasa

Financial Literacy awareness .

What you may not know is that these guys depend sorely on tips from tourists or kutandika those beach beds.

On occasions that i travel to the coast, i always like to hear their stories, while in Watamu one guy narrated how he was married to an Italiano who later left with their 2 kids, now he farms korosho which is not really a lucrative venture due to lack of ready markets, rather market linkage.

If you go to the coast, especially in the rural coastal towns and villages, you will be shocked so many people cannot afford even 1 dollar a day, the place is semi arid if not arid and so farming is not viable there and most result to doing small businesses like selling viazi karai.

I don't know how diverse your opinions are about this issue , but I genuinely think the coast being one of our main tourist attractions, and one of the boosters of our economy, the locals should really benefit and get a share of the national cake, how? Is the big question that needs to be answered.

It's good that now we have county governments that know the root cause of problems ailing the grass root mwanachi, how i hope resources can trickle done to help the beach boy, to help the korosho farmer, to help the woman selling madafu na vitumbua by the streets.

Sometimes you listen to stories from these people and really empathize with them, and just hope that one day they will smile in abundance.

One day I hope their lives will be transformed

Pse:I know this narrative cuts across board to the waru farmer with no ready market, to the muguka farmer looking forward to value addition to their products, to fish sellers in kisumu with no proper refrigeration equipment etc.

We all have that one thing that you hope could be implemented for a better tomorrow.
