Spring smells like sweet honeyed clovers

Sweet smell of purple lilacs wafts through the air

Soft scent of lilies of the valley accompanies one along the lane

As warm rain awakens the earthy scent of fresh soil

Fresh mown grass transitions from spring to summer

Smells of summer blend with sun-dried sheets swaying on a clothesline

Inviting smokey aromas of backyard charcoal grills calls all to dine

Coconut sunscreen fused with chlorine from pools, captures summer’s essence

Musty smell of damp, falling leaves tells of autumn approaching

Warm notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove blend together

With harvest time scents of pumpkins, fresh picked apples and hot cider

Whiffs of smoke fill the air as fireplaces are lit to ward off evening’s chill

Air fills with crisp, clean fragrance of falling snow as winter quietly arrives

Warm chocolate, marshmallow sweetness of hot cocoa mingle

With essence of holiday candles and spicy fragrance of cookies baking in the oven

Together with aromatic scents of pine, spin the tales of festive joy

Each season carries special fragrant traces of it’s own

Scented memories of past times and blessings of those yet to come

From first floral blossoms of spring to piney aromas of winter

Life’s fragrant, sweet moments drift gently through our senses

Morning’s Cacophony

There are moments stillness in the air

As a new day begins to share

Faint hum of distance cars, begins to grow

“Urr, urr, urr, echos the rooster crows

Cars rush by with a “vroom, vroom”

“Cheer-up, cheer-up” the robin sings his tune

“Squawk, squawk, squawk’’sings the bluejay choir

Finches “twitter, twitter” the pitch much higher

“Rumble, rumble “as a truck rolls past

Quietness moments briefly last

Rooster crows. “urrr, urrr, ur” once more

Signaling morning is at the door

“Twitter, twitter” the house finch’s refrain

A gentle song breaking the quiet chain

Nature’s melody mingles with the noise

Quiet moments of gratitude for the joys

Welcoming this gift of a new day

As a cacophony of sounds starts to play

There is a seed within one’s soul
Gentle guidance will let it grow
On the path of life as you stroll

Nourish it daily with morning’s sunrise
Doing what is right, unseen by other’s eyes
With the courage where true strength lies

Water it your whole life through
With words of truth in all you say and do
So, when keeping promises others will think of you

As this seed begins to quietly sprout
Let it shine with actions and a quiet shout
Patiently let it grow and blossom without a doubt

With petals of respect, humility, honesty, grace
Fairness, trust, patience all finding their place
This integrity seed will bloom within your heart space

Abundance is more than gold in hand
Numbers that rise or fall at the market’s call
More than a sprawling mansion on acres of land
Or a vault filled with valuables or material goods

Wealth can be counted and spent on items to display
Or is abundance more than something just to view
Is it coming from within, knowing your worth each day
From the seed in the soul as it steadily grows

There is a special wealth in the gifts from above
When the heart and soul open to listen, to accept
As wisdom, guidance, inner peace flows in with divine love
Filling the heart with gratitude for blessings received

Hold My Hand

Tiny hands come quietly to Grammie’s hand
Sometimes only one finger is just enough
Knowing we can stroll together is the plan

As the years pass, those hands have grown
Yet they still quietly seek Grammie’s hand
Finding comfort in the warmth of the known

Now hands come to act as guide
Knowing love always fills the heart
While strolling with Grammie side by side

Alone in the stillness of dawn

Sun breaks the dark of night

Am I truly alone in the morning glow

Be still

Listen, hear

Quiet the mind

Calm the soul

Divine is near

Let guidance fill my heart

Feel the presence of the divine

When I feel alone

Pause, take in breath of life

Given at birth from heavens above

Feel the presence of creator

Always with me walking beside

Delicate snowflakes
Softly drifting down, down, down
Hush of snow blanket

Blizzard
Swirling, twirling, snow
Howling winds build drifts that soar
Winter rages on

Sleet
Glaze of ice frosting
Branches groan, crack, heavy weight
Sidewalks gleam as footsteps slip

Tornado
Dark clouds, pelting rain
Twirling cycle, spinning, spinning
Shelter in safe place

Fog
Clouds of mist engulf
Hiding nature in shroud of gray
Makes mystical world

Spring Rain
Gentle drip, drip, drip
Plop, plop, plop, puddles gather
Refreshing showers

Summer Heat
Sultry, sticky air
Clammy skin, sweltering day
Frizzy hair, hot, hot

Thunderstorm
Loud claps, lightning flash
Dark skies, downpour, rain soaked
Saturated earth

Butterflies flutter in flower gardens bright
Lacy colorful wings shimmer in morning light
From blossom to blossom they quietly roam
Eating and pollinating before heading home
Where do butterflies go when rain clouds are in sight?

As darkness descends fireflies dart through the air
While their bodies blink with bursts of colorful flare
These glowing insects create a luminous display
Flickering flashes to mark the close of the day
Where do fireflies go when rain falls everywhere?

Quick wingbeats create the bee’s buzzing sound
Shaking loose the flower’s pollen it has found
With honey stomach full, buzzes away to the hive
Turning nectar to honey, it’s food to survive
Where do bees go when rain falls to the ground?

Delicate creatures with wings like lace
Fly with remarkable speed and grace
Dragonflies, hummingbirds, fairies too
Darting, dancing, fluttering, in and out of view
But where do they hid when rain falls in their space?

My granddaughter, Aubrey, was my proofreader offering suggestions for rhyming and descriptive words. A joy creating with her!

Summer days pedaling bikes down the gravel paths
Dust on our legs, sun on our faces, chasing the wind
Creating imaginary adventures along the way
Dreaming of days we would go further down the road

Teen years came, bikes gave way to cars
Cruising on the familiar paths and roads
Drive-in movies, dances, school events
Summer night celebrations with friends

The day arrived to embark on the drive to adult life
Off to begin first job, driving very first car
Stealing glances in the rearview mirror
A bittersweet sense of adventure filled my heart

That drive down the road into adulthood
Lead to countless more road trips
New paths, opportunities, challenges
New life experiences, cherished memories created
Growth, changes, new friendships, blessings
All started with a journey down the road

Every day is a gift, by being present

Moments become more precious

Smiles, laughter more precious

Hugs-big and small- feel more precious

Makes sharing life’s stories more precious

Expressions of love become more precious

Tomorrow is not promised

Be present in the moments of this day

And fill your heart with gratitude

As you travel down life’s road
Your mind will always believe
Everything you tell it.
Fill it with hope and joy.
Fill it with truth and calm.
Fill it with peace and love..

Hope for the world to see the light.
Joy to cherish the view.
Truth to be you.
Calm to carry on each day.
Love for yourself and others.
Peace in your heart.
