See, I told you I wouldn’t ghost you! Look at me being timely! (Let’s just pretend this arrived in your inbox July 1st okay?) I know you love me flaws and all! Now that we’ve got in the swing of things after my first and (slightly delayed post of 2026), I figured we should get back to us. I’m going to do this Seven Things slightly differently, in the spirt of My Stuff and include what I’m watching, reading, listening to etc at the end so we can kiki in the comments.

Not to be dramatic…

And I know you appreciate my honesty. This July is low key not the cutest and she and I are barely on speaking terms. Between the Legionnaire’s outbreak on the UES, Mercury in retrograde, the parasite scare having me question every salad, heat waves and now wildfire smoke…she’s trying me. And to top it off England just lost in the semi-finals of the World Cup! ‘Summer should be fun!’ Thank God for Love Island UK, otherwise it would have been completely dire.

Despite all this, we will keep calm and carry on. With the help of a little retail therapy of course. In case you need reminding, every month I share seven things I’m not ashamed to say I want, need, or would even donate an organ for if necessary. You know I love to get carried away, so it’s always more than seven actual items because that’s what works with my reference. Strap in!

1. ABRIL BARRET Charm Necklace

As you know, I’m a firm believer that jewelry should reflect your personality, spark joy, and, above all, not look like everyone else’s (or be a Cartier Love bracelet). Ahem! Enter LA based fine jewelry brand ABRIL BARRET. The sister design duo create everything by hand and lean into color in the best possible way. Their aptly named Jamboree collection lets you choose everything from your chain, whether that’s 18kt gold or paracord, to colorful gemstones, beads, and charms. Naturally, I spent far longer than I’d like to admit creating my dream combinations. Who said you only need one? And look, I know charm necklaces aren’t exactly new, but the craftsmanship and colorful materials feel genuinely fresh, especially for summer. Safe to say I need one...or five.

2. Westman Atelier Hydrobalm Sheer Tinted Lipstick

You know I’m a loyal girl and obsessed with my Fenty Beauty Heat gloss, so the fact I’m recommending a lipstick should tell you everything you need to know. Westman’s new Hydro Balm Tinted Lipstick has officially earned its place in my makeup bag. I love that it behaves more like a tinted balm (minus the shine) than a traditional lipstick. The color is sheer, softly blurred, and virtually impossible to overdo. I was initially skeptical because Violette FR's Bisou Balm promised a similar effect, but I returned it almost immediately because I couldn't stand the texture. Thankfully, the Westman is the complete opposite. It glides on effortlessly and feels incredibly comfortable. I bought the shade Glogg first, which looked mildly intimidating in the tube but somehow becomes the perfect your lips, but better shade. I loved it so much I went back to Sephora for English Rose, that’s my personal favorite and pair it with my HUNG VANNGO lip liner (or Makeup by Mario’s). However, it’s equally chic on its own when you want to look effortlessly pulled together. (Which is always my goal, obviously!)

3. The Chic Heeled Thong Sandal

Yes, I know…thong sandals for Summer? Groundbreaking. I actually bought this Manolo pair last month in black and I’m low key annoyed at myself. They’re undeniably beautiful, but perhaps just a touch too classic (for me.) At the moment, I’m craving something a little more directional. Naturally, I’m obsessed with Christen as a brand, and the Helix 75 is my current favorite. I could very much picture our girl RHW wearing them with a pair of Phoebe Philo trousers. The flat version is just as chic. A very fashionable friend of mine (who also happens to wear my shoe size, which is rather convenient) owns both the Saint Laurent Sue Mules and the ALAÏA Infradito and swears they’re equally comfortable. For evening, Magda Butrym’s satin thong sandals are perfection. And if you’re in a more is more mood, the embellished version takes things up another notch.

4. Schostal Linen Pajamas

I firmly believe that pajamas shouldn’t be confined to just the bedroom. Obviously, that would be too predictable. Since many of us are in the midst of a heatwave and I’ve just returned from Italy, it felt only right to mention Schostal, especially their linen pajamas. I discovered the 150-year old Roman heritage via my best friend Simon, when we were in Rome six years ago, and it’s remained my favorite ever since. Their motto is, “Everyone can wear pajamas, but only few can style them.” I couldn’t agree more. I’ll happily throw their linen pajama shirt over a bikini on holiday, or pair this one with a simple skirt for a summer in the city moment à la Prada FW25 (even thought I disliked ninety-eight percent of that collection.) And who doesn’t love a versatile linen pant? Further proof that pajamas should rarely make it anywhere near the bedroom.

5. By Terry TEA to TAN Face & Body

If there's one thing you can trust me on, it's a good glow. I've tried what feels like every glow enhancing, bronzing product on the market, so given we're in the height of summer, this feels particularly timely. I’ve seen plenty of chatter around Victoria Beckham’s (always sold out) Color Wash and, while I can see the appeal, I still find myself reaching for By Terry. Despite their similar lightweight, watery textures, the By Terry spray is simply easier to use (and cheaper!) It’s versatile enough for both face and body and, unlike so many bronzing products, dries down completely, so you never have to worry about transfer. I mist it onto a dense brush (I use Patrick Ta’s Body Brush) before buffing it over my body. For my face, I spray a little onto a makeup brush and sweep it over my forehead, cheeks, jawline, and neck after moisturizer but before makeup. This tutorial breaks it down perfectly. There’s no shimmer, no glitter, and no fake-tan look. Just that subtle, “I may or may not have spent the weekend at Il San Pietro” kind of warmth. Ideal.

6. Sofie Buhai Evening Flask

I know we’re not quite at the “I do” stage of our relationship yet, but we are very much in wedding season. Sophie Buhai’s Evening Flask might just be my favorite wedding guest accessory (or, really for any event). The perfect blend of fashion and function, the sculptural sterling silver flask presents more like an evening bag making it impossibly chic. You can pop off the jade stopper for a cheeky sip of your drink of choice. Or water if you’re parched, and trying to be a good girl. I know the price tag is a little steep, but I’d argue this is the sort of piece that’s worth collecting and quite the conversation starter.

7. Hyunsung Cho Cocktail Glass

I recently had lunch with my husband at Marcel, Roman and Williams’ new restaurant at the base of Sotheby’s on Madison. While the food didn’t completely win me over, especially for the price, my Cosmopolitan arrived in a cocktail glass so beautiful I spent the rest of lunch thinking about it. Naturally, I tracked it down the moment I got home. Hand blown by Korean glass artist Hyunsung Cho, the sculptural glass feels more like a work of art than something you’d hide in a cabinet. And yes, I know it’s wildly impractical for everyday use, and the price tag certainly reflects that, but life’s too short for boring glassware! Perfect for a summer soirée or, if you're anything like me, elevating an otherwise ordinary Tuesday night in the bath. Ideal.

• OBSESSING… Over Zendaya’s looks for The Odyssey press tour styled by Law Roach. JUST WOW, especially this look and the makeup! Her makeup artist spilled the tea and shared that she was wearing this Prada blush (which I own and is amazing by the way) in the shade Caffee.

• WATCHING… Nineties rom-com She’s The One (Cameron Diaz, Amanda Peet, Jennifer Aniston, Leslie Mann, Maxine Bahns and Ed Burns all in a movie together, need I say more?!) Also obviously, Love Island U.K (NOT U.S!!!)

• READING… Substacks! Wear Mail, Best Served Chilled, No Sale. I worked with all the authors either at Moda or Saks and they are all extremely talented.

• FOLLOWING… @MadisonDowd - She owns the UES boutique Ludivine and is incredibly chic. She also gets her hair done by my stylist (and friend) and kiki’s with my best friend, so we can clearly trust her taste.

• LUSTING OVER… This Schiaparelli long skirt. I’m obsessed with the fact you can hold the skirt up with the gold chain and padlock. Sadly I’ll have to donate an organ to afford it. (Remind me to send this to my husband.)

• VISITING… I just was at Passalacqua but hoping to visit Switzerland at the end of August.

• BURNING… The Votivo Red Currant Candle. I smelled this in KALLMEYER on the UES recently and was instantly taken back to my early twenties when it was permanently lit in my apartment. It's just as good as I remembered and, unlike many candles these days, it won't cost a small fortune.

• LISTENING TO… Lots of variation here and not necessarily new but… For background noise Hotel Costes A Decade Album. Always on repeat: The Birds Don’t Sing, Clipse (makes me miss my Mum). Hot girl walk song: AWGAZI. Gym song(s): 3x / Body Getting ready song(s): Six Feet Under / Cozy (obviously.)

• BUYING… I just ordered the new HUNG VANGGO BEAUTY Serum Foundation. Will report back once I try it, but I have high hopes.

Shocking, I know given my absence all of 2026, but you know me…timeliness isn’t exactly my strong suit. Did you miss me? For God’s sake don’t answer that, but just know I missed us. Not to age myself here…

But growing up in the early 2000s, one of my favorite features in Vanity Fair was ‘My Stuff.’ Every month, it was one of the first pages I’d turn to. I loved getting a peek into the lives of celebrities, designers, and other fascinating people through the things they couldn’t live without. Their favorite sheets, beauty products, snacks, hotels, perfumes, and all the little bits and bobs that make them who they are. Of course I want to know where Rihanna shops for lingerie!

Obviously, I’m not Riri…

Just little old me, but since I’ve been a bit MIA around here, I thought this would be a fun (and slightly nostalgic) way to reintroduce myself. As you may remember, some would say I’m picky. However, I personally prefer the term ‘particular’! If I’m buying something or going somewhere, trust and believe I’ve done the research. Or ‘due diligence’ as my husband would say. After all, there’s a reason this Substack is called Low Key High Maintenance.

Naturally, I’m excited to skip hand in hand into our next chapter together. Sans your Cartier Love Bracelet and Van Cleef Alhambra, of course. Speaking of, what would a new chapter be without old receipts? Never one to say I told you so, but the Financial Times recently declared the “death of the branded wrist stack,” arguing that the once-ubiquitous Love and Alhambra bracelets are giving way to more personal, individual pieces.

INSPIRATION

Okay, so I can already feel you judging me…

For the number of baths I take, but as Tom Ford revealed back in 2012, and more recently confirmed at the Met Gala, he takes three baths a day as well! Need I say more? Also, I’d like to add that Clueless should get a notable mention as it’s my favorite movie to watch on a plane. In the words of Cher, “You see how picky I am about my shoes and they only go on my feet.” I love a girl who gets it. Finally, please note that I’m a January Aquarius, not a February Aquarius. Yes, there is a difference.

BEAUTY

This section could have been an entire post, let’s be honest. Also, I truly believe gatekeeping your signature scent is actually quite chic. I mean, you know how I feel about Baccarat Rouge 540. No judgement! However, since we’re finally back together I thought I’d share one that’s permanently in my rotation, even if it’s not the one. Also, I standby the fact that the shade Fu$$y in every lip product (like this one) by Fenty Beauty is universally flattering. Ideal.

CLOTHES

Okay, to be real when I said Saint Laurent jeans I was referring exclusively to these ones, as ninety percent of their styles don’t fit me properly. The V Waist is exceptional, especially if you’re tall. Painfully expensive, yes. Worth it? Also yes. Otherwise, I’m always in some variation of Levi’s 501’s.

Despite my love affair (don’t be jealous) with corsets and vintage (90’s) V.W, Alaïa, Thierry Mugler and T.F’s Gucci, I’m currently loving what Haider Ackermann is doing at Tom Ford. As for Schiaparelli, not only would I like half the collection in my closet, I’d also quite like Daniel Roseberry to adopt me as a friend. A girl can dream! If you’re lucky enough to be in London, I highly suggest you go to the Schiaparelli exhibit at the V&A.

If you’re curious, the Mombasa bag, originally designed by Tom Ford when he was at YSL, I happened to ‘borrow’ from my Mum as a teenager. Luckily I found it in my storage a few years ago and naturally Saint Laurent just released a new version. Between that and Celine’s new Luggage tote, consider this permission to ignore anyone who tells you to declutter your handbag collection.

HOME

Obviously, Sloane The Shih Tzu had to make an appearance since she believes that my world revolves around her. (It does.) She’s a little bit of a drama queen, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Additionally, it has come to my attention that Percy Pigs are currently sold in the U.S at Target. My friend kindly bought me a packet, and after a taste test, I’ve convinced myself they are not identical to the ones from M&S in the U.K. If anyone has reliable intel, please report back, as this is a topic I’m very passionate about. Oh, you should also know I’m a beverage girl and there will almost certainly be three different glasses on the table at any given time. Don’t say I didn’t warn you for our next date!

You should already know, our relationship is important to me and I’m glad we’re back on track. I’m not planning on ghosting you again, and have our next date scheduled for a couple weeks from now. Pinky promise!

Oh, hi. Did you miss me? Were you worried? I’d hope so given we’ve built such a strong relationship over the past nine months. I basically birthed Low Key High Maintenance, and then left you on ‘read’ with no warning or follow up post. It’s not you this time. It’s me! It wasn’t a break up, just a little pause. A moment when I needed to collect myself and come back better than ever. Next time I’m gone for this long let’s collectively hope I’m at Lindsay Lohan’s plastic surgeon. Where was I you ask? That’s a secret I’ll never tell. If you saw me in Paris a month ago, no you didn’t.

Naturally, I’d love to rekindle as if this were our first date, and skip in to the sunset - preferably in the new Saint Laurent sling backs. If you’ll have me? That’s a rhetorical question. Oh, and to clarify, I’ve missed you too. And before you start, yes I realize it’s the last day of November but you know I’m not exactly timely.

Now that we’ve kissed and made up it’s time to move forward. We’re literally (and figuratively) in a whole new season. Before I forget, this holiday, why not give yourself (or someone else) the gift that keeps on giving? Go on…

1. TRONQUE Firming Butter

As the weather gets colder, I instinctively want to lather myself in body cream. You know I love a good glow. Thankfully, I recently discovered TRONQUE’s Firming Butter. If you must know, TRONQUE and I had a meet cute at Sage & Sound and now I’m obsessed. Don’t be jealous. Normally, I’m cautious about trying new products, but when I opened the jar and was greeted by a thick, luxe cream that smelled like an expensive spa I was intrigued. I tested a little on my hand and noticed it instantly melted into my skin (in part I’m sure due to the combo of mango and shea butters). When I got home, I couldn’t stop thinking about how soft and hydrated my skin felt without being greasy. So, as any self respecting woman would, I went back and bought an entire jar. Shortly after a quick peruse on their website, I also discovered it’s made with non toxic ingredients and plumps, smooths, firms and tones. I’ll take what I can get in that department, okay?

She’s a little on the pricey side, but to quote TRONQUE’s own ethos: “Self-indulgence is one of the better sins.” I knew we had something in common!

2. Modern Heirlooms - Fine Jewelry by Lucy Delius

You know I’m a jewelry girl, and despite the astronomical price of gold right now, the heart wants what the heart wants. Or rather, the heart needs what the heart needs. (Remind me to send this to my husband.) With the holidays approaching, I tend to get a little sentimental and am gravitating towards jewelry that feels like more than just an adornment. Rather, modern heirlooms. A couple of weeks ago, I had the lovely treat of viewing pieces by London based jewelry designer Lucy Delius, who blends vintage heritage with an elegant, contemporary twist. This isn’t your basic designer jewelry! We’re unique after all.

At the top of my jewelry wishlist is her new Baby Persephone Diamond Necklace featuring a mariners link with a Victorian inspired clasp. It’s perfect worn casually with a white T-shirt or dressed up and layered with her Mega Muff Chain and Diamond Portrait Pendant, for example. We may be just getting reacquainted, but if you’re in the mood to spoil someone (ahem, me), I’d nudge you towards an engravable piece like Athena’s Mirror Ring. Oh and not that you needed another reason to go to London (other than my beloved Percy Pigs), Lucy just opened her first boutique on Ledbury Road. It’s a space that feels like stepping into a richly textured Victorian parlor transformed into an opulent jewel box. Ideal.

3. Violet Grey Candles - The Zodiacs

So, what’s your sign? Calm down, I’m not flirting! I’m asking because Violet Grey just launched a series of Zodiac candles. If you’re wondering, I’m an Aquarius sun, Libra rising and Aries moon. Do with that info what you will, but Google told me I’m “a charming troublemaker with visionary tendencies and zero patience.” Not…no?

Anyway, after the success of Violet Grey’s donate an organ worthy Madame Grey fragrance, the brand launched astrologer approved candles. I know this seems a little ‘woo woo’ but the fact is, these candles smell delicious no matter what your cosmic destiny. Yes, candles are usually the “I didn’t know what else to buy” gift, but these feel a bit more personal. The twelve candles, scented with astrological temperament in mind, are housed in sustainably made vessels topped with a pewter talisman that reads “your moment is coming.” Given we’re finally back together I’d dare to agree! I love when the stars align.

4. Extreme Cashmere

As the temperature cools and cozy season is in full swing, I figured you should know about the cashmere brand you’ll want to wear on repeat. Amsterdam based Extreme Cashmere, just opened their first NYC store on Mercer Street in Soho. Even though I’ve worn the brand for years, visiting the new space felt like a rediscovery. The store itself feels like walking into a friend’s beautifully designed apartment, where you can chat with the knowledgeable sales staff to find your perfect cashmere pieces. The pieces aren’t displayed on racks or shelves the moment you walk in, making the experience feel far more personal, which is a rarity these days.

Extreme Cashmere is for someone who appreciates quality and thoughtful design with a hint of quirk. The pieces hold up through delicate wash cycles, and the genderless, unisize knitwear even comes with a brush and wash instructions. My personal favorites in my closet are the n°152 Chérie, or the N°300 Little 2 cashmere cardigan paired with the N°353 Relax cotton and cashmere wide-leg pants. The sets are perfect layered with fabulous jewelry or paired with their cotton blend tank tops. I promise you, good cashmere is worth the investment. When have I ever led you astray?

5. MG & Co Matchbox Sleeves

Admittedly, this is a slightly random addition to my Seven Things, but I appreciate unique home decor that ignites a little joy. (See what I did there?) I also love the idea of taking something completely ordinary and turning it into a chic moment. Matilda Goad’s MG & Co does exactly that with their brass and silver matchbox sleeves, which you can engrave with text, initials, or even a meaningful date. My favorite is the brass Wave Matchbox, which I’d have engraved with 01.31.25. That was our first date, in case you needed reminding.

And as if we needed another reason to move to London: if you live in the U.K., they offer even more options, like the Tiger’s Eye Matchbox Sleeve, which essentially qualifies as coffee table jewelry. In all seriousness, they make the perfect hostess or holiday gift for the person who has everything and somehow still manages to be impossible to shop for. A perfect match, if you will?

6. Maison Ernest Mules

If you know anything about me, you know I love a good heel. And by good, I mean borderline impractical. Fortunately, that’s where the 121 year old Parisian footwear brand Maison Ernest steps in. The brand has been something of a well kept secret in the U.S., but in France they’re known for bold, sensual shoes worn by our favorite girl R.H.W. and even the dancers at Crazy Horse Paris. Frankly, that’s all the endorsement I require. So naturally, when I found myself in Paris over the summer, I went straight to the shop and was pleasantly surprised by the quality, aesthetic, and comfort level of the shoes.

Why am I sharing this now? Well, thankfully Maison Ernest has officially landed in the U.S. They offer lots of colors and demure heel heights of the mule depending on your mood. However, my favorite pair is the classic Lidylle 120mm Patent Leather Mule: sleek, and powerful in a slightly seductive way. I’m nodding.

7. The Breuer Building à la Sotheby’s

Some would say the Upper East Side is well known for Gossip Girl, but as a local I personally believe the neighborhood has become known for facelifts. Sadly, not the kind by Dr. Steven Levine, although he is firmly part of my fifteen year plan. First, The Frick unveiled its $220 million makeover, and now the old Whitney Museum has completed a $100 million transformation. The new Sotheby’s headquarters at 945 Madison Avenue of course has auction halls, and if you happened to have a casual $236.4 million and a couple of organs to spare, you could have bid on a Gustav Klimt painting last week. Fortunately for us, there are also public galleries filled with fine art and objects that require no bidding paddle, only curiosity.

If you’re in the mood to see some lust worthy jewels, Luxury Week begins December 5th. My personal favorite? This JAR diamond and ruby ring, worthy of even a Samantha style bidding war.

1. Celine SS’26 - The Phantom Is Back!

I know, technically this is old news since Michael Rider’s debut Spring/Summer 2026 collection for Celine happened on July 6th, and we collectively lost our minds. However, it’s still July and we are still going to talk about it. Namely, because the Celine Phantom is back and as Cassie put it, we’re all going to be Celine girls by next summer. For background, the Phantom was released in 2011 by none other than our dearest Phoebe Philo, after the success of the Luggage the prior year. Not to age myself, but I remember the Phantom being that girl with waitlists galore and every celebrity and their mother lusting over one. The Phantom’s return feels a lot like Lindsay Lohan’s recent resurgence back into the spotlight: once the ultimate It girl, she took a well earned break and came back cooler than ever (with some minor upgraded tweaks). Unexpected, iconic, and somehow she hasn’t aged a day! If you’re impatient like me and can’t wait until next summer, I urge you to dig your Phantom out the closet and bring her back in all her glory. Luckily, there are still some great early 2010s options floating around on Rebag and The RealReal, like this striking blue python version and a stunning one in deep red. My puppy, Sloane, decided to use my python Phantom as her new bed (see above), so I’m actually in the market myself. We need to calm down, though, because I really don’t want to end up writing It’s Not You…It’s Your Celine Phantom someday. Don’t let me down!

2. Holiday Jewelry

You know I’d donate an organ (or two) for a huge diamond, and while we’re not quite at the marriage stage of dating, I’ve got a long list of fine jewelry that tickles my fancy. That said, holiday jewelry (vacation, for the Americans) should be fun, textural, bold, and/or colorful. It can make an outfit but shouldn’t break the bank. I’ve been living vicariously through Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s travels and obsessing over her chic summer jewels (and body and hair). My favorites include Julietta’s Drop Pearl Necklace, worn by Rosie herself, that can effortlessly be dressed up or down. Alternatively, Rat & Boa’s Marina Necklace pairs perfectly with a bikini (à la Rosie). Also, nothing says summer like Yassy’s evil eye beaded bracelet. I got mine from a friend, who got his from a friend. I then spotted the same bracelet on the wrist of a very chic Greek girl who, naturally, got hers from a friend too. In many ways it’s become the new and unofficial friendship bracelet of summer. Distribute yours accordingly.

3. Perfumer H Salt Candle

I know Perfumer H has been around for ten years, but I feel like it’s still under the radar, especially in the U.S. It’s more of an ‘if you know you know’ fragrance house by British perfumer Lyn Harris. When it’s boiling in July, I find myself dreaming of the ocean. By that I mean, sitting on a quiet beach under an umbrella sipping a spicy margarita, not actually swimming. Needed to clarify! Anyway, the Salt Candle is a beautifully unique scent that avoids the typical “beachy” scent. It captures breezy, salty air with herbaceous notes like rosemary, wrapped in warm spices like cardamom. It’s the perfect candle to burn on a hot summer evening that’s subtle and elevated. The candle comes in two sizes with the larger version encased in hand blown glass. Also, if you happen to be in London, I highly recommend visiting one of the stores for the full experience. You can even have your initials engraved on the glass, which makes it the perfect summer dinner party gift. Yes, that was a hint. Invite me, and I’ll RSVP as…pending. I like to keep you on your toes after all!

4. Woera’s Matching Summer Set

Okay, full disclosure: the founder and designer of Woera, Natalia Georgala, and I went to Marangoni in London together back in the day. I’m very particular about what I wear, so I promise I’m not biased! Based in Athens, Woera is that girl you spot and wonder, Why is she so effortlessly chic and put together? God, she’s cool but in such a chill way. Who is she? Or maybe that’s just me when I see Natalia. (Don’t get jealous!) The pieces are incredibly wearable, easy to mix and match, and truly capture the spirit of high-summer dressing. Trust me, I’ve worn Woera all over the Greek islands and felt comfortable, cool, and put together. In July, I don’t want to overthink my looks in the heat, so a perfect summer set is all I need. Traveling to Europe and want something you can wear to lunch and then to the beach that isn’t a swimsuit? Look no further than Woera’s Tartan Skort and Triangle Bralet Top, with their Signature Button Up draped over your shoulders. If you can’t escape and need a little style inspiration, the Boxer Shorts and matching Signature Button Up are perfectly polished for a summer in the city moment. Ideal.

5. MD SolarSciences Mineral Crème SPF 50

Calm down, this isn’t a boring suggestion! Do you want to protect your skin while looking like a spring chicken? That’s a rhetorical question. Remember, I’m trying to age gracefully. I also have rosacea of all things, so have become even pickier with what I put on my skin. I’m constantly checking the Sofie Pavitt Ingredient Checker for any products that could clog my pores as well as SkinSort. Well, what I’ve found is mineral sunscreens contain a lot of rubbish! Therefore, it became a mission of mine to find a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast, doesn’t clog my pores, doesn’t contain ingredients that make my sensitive skin worse and also looks good under makeup. Finally, I stumbled upon MD SolarSciences Mineral Crème SPF 50 at Madison Apothecary and bought it on the spot. I can proudly say it fulfills all my mineral sunscreen needs. Not to get too scientific, but according to MD Anderson Cancer Center, mineral sunscreens offer the strongest protection because they form a physical barrier between your skin and the sun. The more you know!

6. The Waldorf Astoria New York Reopens

Is this the year of facelifts? No, I’m not talking about Kris Jenner or Linsday (allegedly). First came The Frick, and now The Waldorf Astoria New York has finally reopened after eight years and billions of dollars spent. Talk about an upgrade. The interiors are rather dramatic especially the Park Avenue lobby which features a marble mosaic floor made of 148,000 individual stones. My favorite spot, unsurprisingly, is the Peacock Alley Bar. She’s glamorous, over the top, and hard to pin down. In other words, expect to wait for a seat, but the people watching makes it more than worth it. I rarely drink vodka (strictly tequila), but I tried the “Dr. Cook” and it was surprisingly delicious for a citrus forward cocktail. If you happen to be in Midtown I highly suggest you take a peek or stay a little longer. The rooms are larger, more luxurious than before and designed by none other than Pierre-Yves Rochon. They also start at $1500. I never said an upgrade was cheap! Actually, I’ve been needing a staycation. (Remind me to send this to my husband.)

7. Sensai Bronzing Gel

I know what you’re thinking. Bronzer for summer? Groundbreaking. Actually…this one is. In July, I want a barely there makeup look but as we know I don’t love going in the sun. Sensai’s Bronzing Gel to the rescue! It’s water based so is super lightweight, holds up in the heat, and gives the perfect warmth without weird undertones or slipping off your face. You can wear it on its own, mix it with your moisturizer or layer under makeup. I discovered it years ago through my best friend, who always looks suspiciously radiant. Naturally, I stole it from him. Please do not get this confused with any sort of bronzing drop, liquid bronzer, or cream bronzer! (I love all of those too, but they are not created equal.) Sadly, it’s not available in the U.S., but you can buy it directly from Harrods online. If you’re looking for something with similar energy, Makeup By Mario’s Softsculpt Bronzing Serum is a good alternative. The texture is similar to Sensai’s, but I tend to use it more on my cheeks and forehead for additional glow. Gorgeous.

There comes a time in every relationship when one person needs a little space. It’s not you…it’s me? I’d love to say I took a fabulous holiday, but I sadly saw the inside of a dentist’s office more times than I’d like to admit. 1. Jessica McCormack’s New Madison Avenue Store, NYC

If you’re even partially interested in the jewelry world, you’ll know that everyone and their mother (and the New York Times) have been talking about Jessica McCormack’s new jewelry store on Madison Avenue. To be honest, calling it simply a store feels a bit rude. Following the aesthetic of her London location, it’s more like a diamond and jewelry mecca in the form of a grand townhouse layered with books, art and curiosities. I was there on Thursday with a friend, and I think I’m still high on a rush of diamonds. My puppy, Sloane, spotted the velvet four-poster dog bed, and we both felt quite at home. In a dream world fantasy land, I live there. Upon entering, you can’t help but admire the detailed interiors, but then out of the corner of your eye, a 15-carat diamond ring catches your attention. In case you’re in the market, the 15-carat ring is a casual $3.8 million. Yes, I tried it on. And yes, I am still fully unwell. Who needs a townhouse when you can wear the cost of one on your finger? Actually, I’ll take both. (Remind me to send this to my husband.)

2. Jimmy Choo Archive Collection

And just like that, I’m yearning for simpler times. I’ve noticed recently in both the fashion and beauty space, nostalgia is ever present. Look at Lancôme relaunching Juicy Tubes! I won’t lie, the millennial in me was tickled by Ed Westwick reprising his role as Gossip Girl’s, Chuck Bass, to promote the Y2K era lip gloss. Now, Jimmy Choo is back with a special Archive Collection featuring iconic styles from the brand’s early years between 1997 and 2001. Naturally, the collection includes a few shoes (or should I say Choos) made famous by Carrie Bradshaw herself from when Sex And The City first aired over twenty years ago. As Carrie once questioned, “I couldn’t help but wonder, can you get to a future if your past is present?” Well, in this case, the answer is yes. I’m not alone in this, as a lot of the styles are currently sold out. Ugh! Naturally, I’m drawn to the 72138 sandal in lilac suede with the feather embellishment. Let’s also not forget the Leo strappy leopard print sandal, worn in the opening credits of Sex And The City. Even if you aren’t a SATC fan, there are some famous styles, like the Archive Bow Slingbacks, that helped shape the brand’s legacy for years to come.

3. I Heart You…Jewelry

Relax, we’re not at the I love you stage of dating. To be fair, this also has nothing to do with the month of June. However, I recently finished the new Netflix show, Sirens. (If you’ve watched it please comment below, so we can discuss the ending!) Back to jewelry, I couldn’t help but notice the character Simone’s heart ring. Upon further investigation, I found the exact one she was wearing. It got me thinking about heart motifs in jewelry. They sometimes get a bad rap for looking a little young, or dare I say, a little naff. But it all depends on the setting and how you style it. Therefore, I’ve rounded up a selection of heart jewelry that fits my criteria. With hearts, a little whimsy is key since jewelry should be fun, right? A perfect example is Nadine Ghosn’s playful collaboration with Gübelin. If you prefer something more subtle, look no further than the Lucy Delius Chubby Love Diamond earrings. The pavé huggie is shaped like a heart and can be layered with their smaller version. In the words of Gossip Girl, “you know you love me!”

4. Body Oil With Benefits

In the past month, I’ve been asked about my favorite body oils more times than I can count. My go to is always L’Occitane Almond Oil but I’ve recently broadened my horizons. In New York, we’ve seen hints of summer weather so perhaps this sparked the sudden interest. As someone who refuses to show skin without some layer of oil, cream, or sunscreen, my mission is always to find the best body oil that doesn’t feel sticky or look like you’ve been sweating. No thank you! As a pale girl, I love anything with a hint of shimmer (not sparkle), so when I saw supermodel Jasmine Tookes had launched a body oil line, BRUNEL, I gave in to the marketing. Do we need another supermodel slinging beauty products? No. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the texture, scent and it doesn’t leave you sticky, just glistening. Plus, it’s packed with skincare ingredients for a little extra payoff. Speaking of skincare, all the cool U.K girls seem to be loving de Mamiel Salvation Body oil, which promises firmer, glowier skin. Love that for us, but also the fact it feels super rich but soaks in to the skin really nicely. You know I can’t resist a good glow.

5. Hair Jewelry

As the weather gets warmer, I tend to put my hair up a lot more. The idea of sweating out my blowout stresses me out, so I opt for interesting hair clips and accessories to help the matter. My favorite French beauty brand, Officine Universelle Buly, just released four different hair clips that add a touch of elegance without being overdone. That’s the French way after all. Even better, the hair accessories can be personalized with your name or initials. As someone who uses their combs, the quality is also excellent. I’m heading to Paris next weekend, and the Valiant chignon hairpin is high on my shopping list. If you want something a little more fun, you could try Emi Jay’s “Big Effing Hairclip,” which comes in an array of patterns and colors. I have one myself, and at first, I didn’t really get the hype. But compared to the cheap version I bought at CVS that broke after three wears, the Emi Jay clip actually grips your hair and feels substantial. Ideal.

6. Bottega Veneta Travel Fragrance

On our first date, I told you the importance of smelling good. So naturally, you should know that extends to travel as well. Bottega Veneta launched their fragrance collection last October, with bottles that truly look like a work of art. Luckily, they recently launched a travel size version that’s housed in a super chic gold-finished refillable bottle in their signature Intreccio motif. Perfect for upcoming summer travel! My favorite scent is the Colpo Di Sole that’s supposed to capture ‘the warmth of the Mediterranean sun’ with notes of bergamot and orange flower absolute. Imagine opening your bag on holiday, the warm sun on your skin, and spritzing this as the gold bottle glimmers in the light. A girl can dream right?

7. KHAITE Resort ‘26 Collection

Okay, I know it’s summer and the idea of leather and boots is not top of mind, but bear with me for a moment. Since we’ve been dating, I’m sure you’ve realized I’m not exactly a timely girl. But, I do love a planned purchase, especially if it includes the KHAITE Resort 2026 collection. When this newsletter hits your inbox, there will only be four days left of Moda’s trunkshow so run don’t walk - preferably in their extra long thigh highs in leather and suede. However, if you’re not in the mood to add to cart, you can always save your favorite looks for next year. Naturally, my favorite pieces are mostly outerwear, in particular this long leather coat. The prices are not for the weak, but neither is this collection. Strap in!

I know you’re used to me picking a fight over Cartier Love bracelets or your favorite Van Cleef Alhambra, but I’ve calmed down this week in the spirit of Mother’s Day. Don’t get used to it! I assume most of you are aware that Mother’s Day is coming up in the U.S on May 11th, thanks to the countless promotional emails you’ve probably received in your inbox. (This is not one of those.)

It’s Complicated.

If you must know, I was hesitant to even discuss the topic of Mother’s Day, given my relationship with the holiday. Sadly, my Mom, Marcia, passed away in March 2020 and every year as Mother’s Day rolls around I have feelings of sadness and grief. To be honest, I find the whole thing rather overwhelming. I always try to honor her on the day, whether it be buying flowers or sharing memories of fun times together. If you’ve lost a loved one, these ‘milestone’ days can be really difficult. Of course, I’m not the only one who has a complicated relationship with Mother’s Day. I realize it can be hard for those who have a difficult relationship with their Mom, may not know their Mom, those who have lost children and those trying to be a Mom. I’m more of a two kisses on each cheek kind of girl, but I’m sending you a virtual hug. Don’t worry, I’ll get to the fun stuff in a moment but felt the need to acknowledge.

You would have loved my Mom and to be honest, I think a lot of my friends preferred hanging out with her over me! Out of all her extraordinary qualities, I’d like to think I inherited her strength, cheeky sense of humor and unwavering loyalty.

Luckily for us, I’ve also inherited my Mom’s impeccable taste!

With all that in mind, I thought I would reframe this newsletter. My Mom was exceptional at giving gifts and extremely thoughtful. She would always remember small details about a person. When my husband and her first met, my Mom had Marcona almonds as a snack and he took a liking to them. A week later, all different types of Marcona almonds arrived at his door. She loved making others feel special, and gift giving was her way of showing appreciation and bringing a smile to someone’s face.

However, the time has come to discuss designer fine jewelry. The market is saturated with pieces from what I like to call the Big Three: Tiffany & Co., Cartier, and Bulgari. There is so much on offer, yet everyone keeps buying the same pieces! Of course, I understand the brand positioning behind promoting the bestselling collections, but we don’t need eighteen iterations of the same bracelet.

I get it. The desire for designer fine jewelry is not lost on me. Despite the fact it’s a weird time economically and the price of gold keeps sky rocketing, it’s always good to be in the know. Before we begin, I tend to get carried away and hate the B word: budget. Obviously in a fantasy dream world the Bulgari Serpenti Viper Necklace would adorn my neck. I also may or may not have stumbled across this insane necklace in the back room at Cartier. (Don’t send this to my husband.) However, I’ve capped all my selections to a maximum of $20,000 which I guess seems slightly over budget, but designer jewelry is not cheap and neither are you! It’s actually quite a hefty investment and the pricing is getting a little crazy, so it’s important to buy accordingly. (Most of my selections are well below this benchmark but I wanted to present a range.) We love options.

To be clear, if a brand, collection or piece isn’t included it’s for a reason. Here’s looking at you Van Cleef. (However, I do like their mega high jewelry.) I thought about including some of my favorites from Boucheron and Chopard but I already covered that here.

Did I take this as an opportunity to try on jewelry, just for you?

Of course I did. In my head I secretly worked as a jewelry detective searching for the best pieces. I wasn’t able to try on all the items at every store, but I thought it would be helpful to see things IRL. However, the one thing I did walk away with was this:

At Tiffany and Cartier, I felt like one of many.

At Bulgari, I felt like the one. Do with that information what you will.

I brought along my assistant, Sloane (who also happens to be a very opinionated puppy) and we served as your boots (and paws) on the ground. She found a Tiffany bracelet that caught her eye. However, she’s still figuring out the fine art of outdoor bathroom etiquette. I kindly reminded her that a luxury purchase is something we can work towards once she gets a handle on that. Goals are important after all. Also, apologies if the photography is not the most gorgeous. We all have our strengths.

Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany has really expanded its HardWear and Lock collections, but not all pieces are created equal. Personally, when it comes to HardWear, I believe the chunkier, the better. Therefore, I’d opt for the Large Link bracelet in yellow gold. It stands out but still pairs well with your existing collection. The same could be said about the Lock bangle which I tried on with my own tennis bracelet. Naturally, I’m partial to the diamond and yellow gold bangle but I also love the yellow and white gold version. When it comes to Elsa Peretti, of course you could go for one of her cuffs. However, the open bottle pendants in yellow gold and silver are such a statement especially when worn together. If you’re feeling daring you could even wear them as back necklaces. I’m also fully obsessed with her Snake Necklace. The silver makes it more wearable during the day and feels like such a collector’s item. Speaking of, if I could walk into Tiffany and buy something right now I think it would be Paloma Picasso’s Melody ring. Yes, the interlocking bands may look similar to the Cartier Trinity, but overall it feels more substantial and unique. The five bands glide with the finger, so you can choose which way the diamonds face. The dimensions and width of the ring make it really stand out, and there are multiple stone and gold variations. Sadly, the collection is being discontinued so in my mind, this is a need not a want! (Actually, remind me to send this to my husband.)

Bulgari

Candidly, out of the Big Three, Bulgari is my favorite. There, I said it! As per my text above, I’d already spent thousands of dollars in my head. (In reality I spent zero but a girl can dream.) Overall, the pieces are exceptionally well made and despite being a well known name, aren’t totally overblown. Hands down if $10,900 was gifted to me tomorrow I would buy the B.Zero1 Bracelet. It’s something I hadn’t seen before, has serious weight to it and looks chic paired with just about anything. Another need, not want. I also was surprised by the Cabochon ring in yellow gold with pavé diamonds. (The plain yellow gold version is chic, too.) It looks elegant on the pinky and a unique alternative to a traditional signet ring. Now, I know the Serpenti collection is popular, and to be honest I understand why! My favorites are the Serpenti Viper Ring in white gold and pavé diamonds and this version. It would also be fun to layer the white gold and yellow gold band. We love a stacking moment.

Cartier

Okay, I went to Cartier and was informed there was a thirty minute wait. In case you didn’t know, lines are not my thing, especially for jewelry! This is not Disney World, this is a luxury shopping experience. The whole vibe felt very transactional, but I guess that’s what happens when you make the most googled bracelet in the world. No judgment!

My selections are a little all over the place, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Most are from the Panthère collection, which I’m sure you expected. The Maillon Panthère ring would look really elegant stacked with the small Panthère de Cartier ring. On the subject of Maillon, the three-row bracelet is a staple that you could easily pair with an everyday gold watch. You know I love a bit of drama, so for more of a statement ring, à la Erika Jayne, the larger caged version is that girl.

If you must know, I’m not really a fan of the Clash collection or rose gold. However, I saw the rose gold small model necklace at the store and was humbled. I love the fact it sits on the neck almost like a collar or choker. It feels a bit more special than the average gold chain, while not being too dressed up. Look, the Reflection de Cartier earrings are quite the investment, but I love the mix of diamond cuts and the overall shape. On the subject of earrings, the Les Berlingots de Cartier sleeper earrings in malachite, yellow gold, and white diamonds add a bit of color and don’t feel too serious. We love that.

Honorary Fine Jewelry Mentions:
Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Dior. (Shocking I know.)

Calm down. Before you start a fight, I know these brands are luxury houses and not designer jewelry houses, but I think some of the pieces are worth a look.

To be honest, I don’t really love most of the Hermès fine jewelry, but the Chaine d'ancre Calypso ring really stood out to me. Half of the chains move and create this layered chain effect with delicate diamonds on the top and bottom. Sorry to do this, and it’s slightly over budget, but the Chaos Fancy Anchor Chain bracelet in white gold is delicate and would pair nicely with a tennis bracelet.

Regarding Dior Fine Jewelry, one collection I’ve loved for most of my adult life is Bois de Rose, in particular the rings. My mom actually gifted me the gold and diamond one and I’ve worn it every day since I was 18. Don’t do the math on my age. (Whatever you’re thinking, subtract five.) I like the thorn detail and saw someone layer a number of them in different metals and stones and it looked quite cool. The bracelet is harder to wear than the rings, but I love the aesthetic. Speaking of a bracelet, the GEM Dior bracelet comes in different metals and stone colors. I’ve hardly seen it out and about, and dare I say, it could be a unique alternative to your favorite Love bracelet. Ahem.

I mentioned the Damier Collection by Louis Vuitton on our first date, but felt the need to bring it up again. My former boss at Tiffany actually designed the collection using the House’s Damier motif in a mix of metals and diamonds. My favorite is the yellow gold and diamond bracelet as well as the white gold and diamond small ring. The pieces are slightly edgy, but still feel polished and modern at the same time. I’ll take one of each!

1. Phoebe Philo Bamboo Sunglasses

Despite the fact that Phoebe’s Bamboo Sunglasses were just released on the 8th, I’m hopeful they won’t sell out by the time this hits your inbox. If you must know, when Phoebe first launched her namesake brand, I spent three months trying to get my hands on the Peak sunglasses. Despite multiple texts from a friend who was also on the hunt, I always missed the ‘drop’ online. Luckily, a very kind man at Bergdorf’s sourced them for me and the rest is history. Now of course they’re readily available so I guess the joke’s on me. The cat-eye shape is my personal favorite and reminiscent of Phoebe’s signature sunnies from her time at Celine. Therefore, when I saw the Bamboo shades that have her signature cat-eye profile with the chic bamboo detail, I immediately added to cart.

2. Statement Sea-Inspired Jewelry

I’m not exactly a statement jewelry girl, but ocean-inspired jewelry with shell motifs are having a fashion moment. For a less literal approach, I love Tiffany & Co’s vintage Elsa Peretti High Tide earrings, that mimic the movement of waves in 18 karat yellow gold. They feel like an earring that could easily be added to my jewelry collection, without feeling too ‘on trend.’ For a statement pendant, look no further than Juju Vera’s vintage inspired Petra shell necklace. It feels versatile enough to wear on and off the beach, even layered over a cashmere sweater in the cooler months. On vacation I don’t want to take any precious jewelry with me, and find myself willing to experiment more with color and shapes. With spring break on the horizon and the promise of warmer days ahead, Eliou’s Mar Necklace feels perfect for a holiday. Imagine pairing it with a strapless dress for dinner or with a bright colored bikini for lunch by the pool. Ideal.

3. Florals For Spring? Fleur Éclair Eau de Parfum by Régime des Fleurs

On our first date, I told you I would smell good and encouraged you to do the same. (As long as it’s not Baccarat Rouge 540.) Enter Fleur Éclair, launched late 2024 by Régime des Fleurs. I know floral fragrances for spring have had their moment, but Fleur Éclair smells different enough to actually be groundbreaking. With spring in full bloom, April is the perfect time to add a floral infused scent to my rotation. Before you get mad at me, I know Fleur Éclair is not a typical ‘floral’. If anything it’s more of a gourmand with sweet, edible notes of cardamom sugar and cocoa butter. However, Fleur Éclair redefines the gourmand category with the addition of notes like orange blossom and jasmine sambac, leaving a sweet floral scent on the skin. Delicious.

4. Tavi Dinner Trench by KALLMEYER

Carrie Bradshaw once said, “In New York, you're always looking for a job, a boyfriend, or an apartment.” Well, in April I’m always looking for the perfect trench. The weather is rainy and unpredictable and I want a trench that’s transitional and can be easily layered. Yes, I realize April is a little late in spring to be thinking of a trench, but as we know I’m not exactly a timely girl. Last year, I loved Khaite’s Mazlow Trench, but given that it’s basically sold out everywhere, it’s on my list of things I regret not buying. Currently, I don’t know if I’ve found the one, but KALLMEYER’s Tavi Dinner Trench comes close. I’m not a traditional trench girl, so I always look for coats that have unique details. Normally I opt for more structure, but the Tavi Dinner Trench is elegantly draped with gathering at the back of the coat. Perfect for when people do a double take as you walk by.

5. Danielle Frankel’s Bridal Collection X

Here I go talking about weddings again, but don’t worry I know we aren’t at that stage in our relationship yet. However, if you did just get engaged and are planning to say, “I do”, look no further than Danielle Frankel’s latest bridal collection. I typically wouldn’t discuss a bridal collection, mainly because it tends to feature the same silhouettes over and over again. However, Collection X is show stopping, even if you’re not planning on ever being a bride. There’s a hand painted floral gown, along with architectural shapes and cocoon like fabrics that create a collection both dramatic and wearable. You know I love a cinched waist, and of course Frankel delivers with a corset mini dress. Despite the fact that I had a micro wedding and bigger event, this has made me think we need a third celebration!

6. AERIN x D. Porthault

On our first date, I told you I was picky about bed linens and that my favorite sheets are from none other than D. Porthault. Yes, they’re an investment but since we spend so much time in bed wouldn’t you rather look chic as you nod off? I’m in the mood for a spring home refresh and luckily D. Porthault recently launched a capsule collection with AERIN, featuring Porthault’s Fleurs du Vent design. Known for their prints, Porthault’s wild rose motif in blues and greens is perfect for spring, with an array of products for the home. I personally love the wash bags and jewelry cases but also could see myself using the cocktail napkins at my next dinner party.

7. Reopening of The Frick Collection

Spotted: A comeback five years in the making. Your favorite ladies of the Upper East Side aren’t the only ones getting a makeover. After a $220 million facelift, the Frick is finally reopening on April 17th. As your favorite Upper East Sider, the corner of 70th and 5th Ave is about to be lively once again. I've already booked my tickets for next week to see the renovated Beaux Arts mansion and the new extension. My friend was lucky enough to get an early look and said even the bathrooms were dazzling, covered in green marble. MoMa could never!

• Buy this iNNBEAUTY Project Extreme Cream Moisturizer…Instead of the Augustinus Bader Face Moisturizer.

  • I know AB has its fans, but iNNBEAUTY’s moisturizer wears better under makeup and the price point is a lot easier to digest.

• Buy this Saie Glowy Super Gel Illuminator…Instead of the Iconic London Underglow Blurring Primer.

  • I tried to love the Iconic London primer, but it didn’t sit well under makeup and had too much shimmer. The Saie adds luminosity without shimmer and sparkle.

• Buy this Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation…Instead of the Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation.

  • I do like the Armani but find myself using the Pat McGrath a lot more for evenings out. It doesn’t feel as heavy as the consistency is thinner, but still provides coverage that enhances your skin.

• Buy Westman Atelier Hydrating Bronzing Drops…Instead of the Drunk Elephant Bronzing Drops.

  • The Westman doesn’t have any shimmer like Drunk Elephant’s and leaves a natural tan glow, instead of an orange shimmery sheen. Sorry, I think the Drunk Elephant drops are over hyped. There, I said it!

• Buy this Makeup By Mario Setting Spray…Instead of the Charlotte Tilbury Airbush Setting Spray.

  • The Makeup by Mario sprays out more evenly than the Tilbury and feels more lightweight on the face.

Makeup: Cheeks

• Buy this Patrick Ta Major Sculpt Crème Contour Bronzer Duo…Instead of the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Cream Contour Duo.

  • I used to have the TF option, but prefer the shade range from Patrick Ta’s duo. The inclusion of bronzer powder allows for extreme sculpting.

• Buy this Haus Labs Powder Blush…Instead of the Rare Beauty Soft Bouncy Blush.

  • I prefer the pigment of the Haus Labs and for it’s a bit more blendable than the Rare Beauty. My favorite shades are Fire Moon and Pomelo Peach.

• Buy this Hourglass Unreal Liquid Blush…Instead of the Saie Liquid Cream Blush.

  • We’ve already discussed this product, and I find the Hourglass lasts longer on the skin and looks more natural than Saie’s cream blush.

Makeup: Lips

• Buy this Lawless Lip Plumping Mask…Instead of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

  • I know the Laneige is popular, but a friend told me to try the Lawless and I loved it! It plumps your lips overnight, leaving them hydrated without feeling like you’ve been stung by a bee.

• Buy this Fenty High Shine Gloss Stick…Instead of the Yves Saint Laurent Lip Gloss Stick.

  • I have the Fenty gloss stick in the shade, It’s Fu$$y, which I guess sums me up. I prefer it to the YSL because of the price point, and it doesn’t look too glossy and fully accentuates the lips.

• Buy this Makeup By Mario Lip Pencil…Instead of the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner.

  • I always used the Tilbury but got a sample of the Makeup by Mario and liked how it felt creamier and easier to apply, while still having Tilbury's lasting power.

Makeup: Eyes

• Buy this Ilia Cream Eyeshadow…Instead of the Hourglass Eyeshadow Stick.

  • I bought two of the Hourglass sticks and as much as I liked the formula, both sticks broke immediately. Ilia has more shades and is easier to use.

• Buy this Make Up For Ever Mini Artist To Go Eyeshadow Palette…Instead of the Huda Beauty Nude Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette.

  • I actually use both, but over time found myself picking up the Make Up For Ever palette more. It has the perfect collection of nudes and shimmer for a natural eye look.

• Buy this Armani Liquid Eyeshadow…Instead of Merit Cream-To-Powder Eyeshadow.

  • The Armani has been my go to and adds a wash of color. The Merit delivers a similar texture when it dries down, but the Armani is fool proof application wise.

Not Makeup

• Buy this L’Occitane Shower Oil…Instead of the Sol de Janeiro Shower Oil.

  • I personally don’t love the smell of the Sol De Janeiro and find L’Occitane’s almond oil isn’t overpowering, and fully nourishes the skin.

• Buy this Dr. Idriss De-Puffer Roll On Serum…Instead of the Clarins Depuffing Face Mask.

  • I have both, but the Dr. Idriss is a lot less messy and I like keeping mine in the fridge, so the roll on applicator gets cold. It actually de-puffs and doesn’t break the bank.

• Buy this Patrick Ta High Shine Body Crème…Instead of the Fenty Parfum Body Crème.

  • I love the Fenty, but Patrick Ta just released this glowy body cream that’s perfect for when you want to go out and glow. There is a slight shimmer but it doesn’t look sparkly. Ideal!

In case you were wondering…

I didn’t include anything hair care related because I only trust my stylist and friend with his recommendations. I barely do my hair myself because I’m terrible at a blowout, so it didn’t feel authentic to speak on the topic! If you want my recommendation on highlighter, which to be honest is my favorite product, we already covered that topic in our date a few weeks ago. Everyone is picky about brushes and I didn’t want to bore you. However, if you’re in the mood I would highly recommend Makeup By Mario’s F4 and F1 brush as well as Saie’s Foundation brush.

You know I love a receipt, so I’ll start with the facts.

Created in 1968, the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra collection was coveted by female tastemakers and celebrities as a symbol of luck, freedom and femininity. Alhambra was that girl. There was a slow burn in its popularity until about five years ago, when the iconic motif started popping up on influencers’ social channels and on the wrists and necks of male celebrities. Yes, I blame TikTok. In 2022, Drake even name dropped Van Cleef in his song, BackOutsideBoyz, only fueling the hype. Today, the four-leaf clover design is approaching the Cartier Love bracelet's peak of oversaturation. I’ve even seen a few of you pair the two popular bracelets together. No judgment!

Before we get into a lover’s quarrel…

If you happen to own an Alhambra design, I’m not judging you! Whether you love it or hate it, we can agree that the motif has become a recognizable luxury status symbol in the world of designer jewelry. The appeal of the statement motif is not lost on me. The designs are extremely wearable, playful, and collectible with hundreds of variations in different stones, metals, materials, and colors. I’m also not totally opposed to the Van Cleef Vintage Alhambra long necklace with 20 motifs if you have a spare $20k. Imagine it worn as a back necklace with a low back dress? I’d even consider donating an organ for this Van Cleef 1950’s watch bracelet that would glisten as I type this love letter to you. (Remind me to send this to my husband.)

However, can we move on? I think for $2800+ we should open our eyes to new possibilities. Similar to when we discussed Baccarat Rouge 540, the Alhambra motif is everywhere and on everyone! How do I say this nicely? When it comes to the Vintage Alhambra bracelet with five motifs and the Vintage Alhambra single pendant, I’m over it!

Let’s be clear…

If you’re looking for dupes, I’m not your girl. But you already knew that. However, if you want interesting alternatives that share a similar concept with the Van Cleef Alhambra motif, whether in symbolism, array of colors, or motif style, keep scrolling. Don’t you love it when I’m a bit bossy?

To be transparent, my alternatives are based on a comparison of the Vintage Alhambra bracelet with five motifs and the single pendant. The Vintage Alhambra collection is actually one of six collections under the Alhambra ‘umbrella’ and these two styles are arguably the most popular. The more you know!

An Exclusive Cartier Moment

Calm down. I told you I don’t dislike all Cartier, I just have a teeny issue with the Love bracelet okay? Similar to their competitor’s motif, Cartier claims that the design is charged with emotional power, acting as a lucky charm to carry with you. That is only if you’re lucky enough to find one. Sorry to break your heart (again) but the Amulette de Cartier collection is being discontinued and not available online in the U.S. However, the necklace is still available in France and the U.K. Yet another reason to move! Luckily, 1stdibs carries a collection of bracelets and necklaces in different precious materials and colors to quench our thirst. To be honest, I love when jewelry plays hard to get.

A Decorative Statement

Before you come for me, I know the Opera Collection by Buccellati is the most obvious alternative. It’s also coincidentally owned by Richemont, the same parent company as Van Cleef. I debated whether to include it given the very distinct similarities to the Van Cleef Vintage Alhambra collection, in motif, price point and design. However, the Opera Tulle bracelet and necklace offer a more decorative and vintage feel that are different enough not to be a dupe. The textured gold and colorful enamel elements are statement making without feeling over the top.

More Luck

Messika’s Lucky Move collection captures the same idea as Van Cleef’s Alhambra. The concept of adorning yourself with a symbol of luck is offered in a range of metals, colors and stones such as lapis, onyx and turquoise, making them perfect for stacking. The motif feels contemporary without trying too hard. Simply, if Alhambra is at the club in Mykonos, Lucky Move is at the villa pool in Serifos. Purchase accordingly.

Lucky Charms

The idea of a lucky motif à la Alhambra can also be applied to a lucky charm à la Foundrae. The bracelets and necklaces can be completely customized depending on your chosen talisman with a range of symbols and colors. I love the idea of collecting charms over time to add to your neck or wrist. I’d like to think the three pillars of our budding relationship are faith, hope and love. Luckily Foundrae’s four heart clover charms symbolize just that. You see, I’m always thinking of you.

Colorful Motifs

Part of Alhambra’s appeal is the the array of colorful stones that can be mixed and matched. Jenna Blake’s Mariner necklaces and bracelets modernize a vintage motif and are offered in different hues such as lapis, rose quartz and malachite. If you’re not feeling as bold, Sauer offers a smaller, but still colorful motif with their Frames pendant and bracelet. I’ll take one of each, thank you.

First I go and mention Victoria Beckham’s fifteen engagement rings and now wedding talk. I’m calm, don’t worry. Obviously we’re nowhere near that point in our relationship, but since we’ve hit the two-month mark I thought I’d share a personal moment. Why begin with the topic of my wedding after-party dress, not my actual wedding dress? If you must know, the story of my after-party dress is a bit more dramatic and in the process, I ended up creating my dream dress. Also, party dresses don’t have to just be for the bride! Marriage may not be for everyone, but fashion should be. There are lots of life events worth celebrating that don’t include two people professing their life long commitment to each other.

The process of choosing a party dress can be a bit overwhelming—whether it's for your wedding or not. I searched and scoured the internet all in the name of love (for you.) I’ve rounded up my favorites below, from sheer and sexy, to embellished and mini.

Okay, back to me.

My wedding dress design process began in 2019, and my Mom and I met with the couture studio at Vivienne Westwood in London. At the same time I (stupidly) hired another designer to create my wedding after-party dress.

I won’t go in to lengthy detail about my wedding but if you’re interested you can read Vogue’s play by play. My original wedding was scheduled for June 2020 at Borgo Santo Pietro in Tuscany. In March of that year, my Mom suddenly passed away. Then, there was the Covid of it all, so like many couples we postponed until May 2022. We actually had a small marriage ceremony in 2020 but that’s another story.

In a turn of events, two months before my wedding, the designer—who shall not be named—informed me that the after-party dress wouldn’t be ready in time.

The tea is they actually never started making it, despite taking a hefty deposit. Luckily, the Vivienne Westwood team stepped in and we created the literal dress of my dreams.

Before you start…

I’m fully aware of how incredibly privileged I was to have the opportunity to wear a custom couture Vivienne Westwood dress in the first place. I know this is not the norm and totally O.T.T. Some would say, high-key high maintenance. I don’t ever take that for granted and working with the Vivienne Westwood team on my wedding looks was something I’ll forever cherish.

Creating a custom couture dress in less than two months is pretty much unheard of. Especially since I wanted a dress that fully felt like me and was totally unique. I pulled a lot of inspiration images and meshed together ideas from existing Vivienne Westwood dresses. It’s safe to say I was a ‘hands-on’ bride. As you know I love a corset, and this is Vivienne Westwood for God’s sake, so that was obviously a non-negotiable. I didn’t want anything too ‘bridal,’ so I opted for pink instead of white and chose a sheer design with visible corset boning—because why not? We went through rounds of dyeing different underwear options to match the exact pink hue of the dress, aiming for a bodysuit-like effect. The knickers that made the cut were from the U.K grocery chain, Marks & Spencer. I didn’t try on the dress (or the underwear) until two days before the wedding due to the time crunch. I audibly gasped when I saw the dress on the hanger, and the goal was to make everyone else gasp when they saw me. I’d like to think my Mom would have approved.

For my brides, forget the trends.

If you’re lucky enough to have an outfit change at your wedding, own it and stay true to yourself. No matter what your budget, you’ve got to pick outfits that feel like you. I’m begging you to forget the trends and forget what your friends wore to their wedding. I know someone close to you will give their input, but wear whatever will make you feel best. The location, the weather, and type of event will partially dictate what you wear, but please make sure you’re comfortable. I threw off my shoes five minutes in to dancing so I’m not one to talk on the shoe front, but you get my point.

Even if you never want to say, ‘I do’…

I’ve found twenty unique dresses that are perfect for both a wedding after-party or just a really fun event. Be sure to send me an invite, okay?

Sheer and Sexy

I know this may not be for everyone, but if you’re feeling bold take a page out of Camille Charriere’s book. Of course, there are variations in how sheer you can go, but I personally loved the idea of a semi-sheer fabric for my dress. Sheer fabrics can range from delicate lace, like Vivienne Westwood’s Lace Minerva dress, to shiny sequins, like Stella McCartney’s maxi dress. Please just make sure you're wearing the right undergarments à la my Marks & Spencers knickers! Also, try the dress on before the party, under all different lighting conditions and with a camera flash. Trust me.

Cinched, Draped, Sculpted

Arguably my favorite category, but you already knew this. Whether it’s draped or corseted or all of the above, these silhouettes are extremely flattering and accentuate your figure. We love a bit of body. For a more casual draped option, try Paris Georgia’s Remmy Dress. I think it would also be perfect for a daytime party. If you want a bit more drama, Danielle Frankel’s draped tulle mini dress leans in to bridal without feeling too on the nose.

The Little White Dress

I know some of you would prefer to wear all white for wedding related events. Calm down, I’m not judging you. Even if you're not the marrying type, I love the idea of wearing an elegant little white dress to a summer party or pairing it with flats for dinner on holiday. For a more minimal look, try Khaite’s Mags dress. However, if you want something a little more feminine I love Magda Butrym’s Rosette mini dress. Just be sure to try it on at home and lift your arms above your head to gauge whether you can actually party in it without giving everyone a show.

O.T.T Embellished Minis

This is for when you want to go full on and be the center of attention. What better time to do that than at your wedding? To be honest, even if you’re not a bride these dresses deliver statement making party attire. Channel nineties Naomi and party the night away in a Versace chainmail dress. If you’re more of a Blair than a Serena, Oscar’s pink scalloped mini offers just the right amount of whimsy.

Sleek and Slinky

Not every party dress has to be a mini and there’s something effortless about wearing a long slip dress style. It feels sensual without feeling too much. Famously worn in the 90’s by Kate Moss, slip dresses move with the body which make them perfect for dancing. If you feel like donating an organ, look no further than vintage Dior’s crepe halter dress. Ideal.

In every relationship there comes a time when your true self shines through and some of the mystery fades away. Did I ‘forget’ to mention that I got a weekly at-home spray tan every Thursday during the first year of dating my now husband? Yes, I did. He surprised me one Thursday evening and found me rather exposed in just my shower cap mid spray.

I know we’re not at the year mark quite yet, but date seven is when the veil begins to lift and you realize I’m a lot more high maintenance, less low key. Shocking, I know. Therefore, in the spirit of openness, at the beginning of each month, I’ll share seven things I’m not ashamed to say I want, need, or would even donate an organ for if necessary. Strap in, because some are more ‘I see it, I like it, I want it, can’t buy it,’ but it’s good to have goals, right?

Full disclosure, there are technically more than seven things on this list thanks to my deep dive in to emerald jewelry, but seven things is what worked with my reference. You’re welcome.

1. Haus Labs Bio-Radiant Glassy Balm Highlighter Stick

Easing in with the first on our list, I actually bought three of the six highlighters when they launched on Monday. I had to do the research for our date after all. Assuming you read my post on pearlescent makeup, you know I’ve tried just about every glowy product on the market. Admittedly, I’m married to my Westman Atelier Highlighter Stick in the color Lit because it adds sheen without looking shimmery. However, I fell in love with the Haus Labs highlighters immediately. Both the Glassy Opal and Glassy Champagne Quartz sit on top of the skin, without disturbing makeup underneath, achieving a glassy iridescent glow. The balm texture is best applied with your fingers or a beauty blender, tapping on to the high points of the face, eyes and lips. I also bought the clear Pure Glass stick which I wouldn’t recommend unless you’re a pro makeup artist trying to do a wet look. There is no pigment and you could probably just use a lip balm to achieve the same effect.

2. Emerald Jewelry

If you want an inside look at my brain on jewelry, I think about Angelina Jolie at the 2009 Oscars in her 115 carat Lorraine Schwartz Colombian emerald earrings at least twice a week. Something must be in the air—I’ve received about five texts in the past few days from friends about emerald jewelry. As your resident GIA Applied Jewelry Professional let me nerd out for a moment and give you a helpful tip on emeralds. Emeralds are considered to be a ‘soft’ stone meaning they can scratch and break more easily than diamonds. Therefore, with emerald stones over a certain carat weight you see a lot of earrings and necklaces instead of rings and bracelets. If you decide to get a ring or a bracelet, make sure the stone is protected by a substantial setting, like this vintage emerald ring, or set in pavé, like the Lucy Delius signet ring. Lucky for you, I’ve put together a selection of emerald jewelry that I’d love to adorn myself with if I’m ever that lucky. You could go all in with Shay’s Emerald Pendant Necklace or opt for more subtle every day earrings like Spinelli Kilcollin’s Zahra Earrings. See, I never said I didn’t like the brand I just was a little over the rings. Calm down.

You know I love a pajama set that works both in and out of the bedroom. March is the perfect time to fantasize about warmer days. I’ve pictured myself wearing these Yaitte pajamas on my Summer holiday mixing and matching the shirt and boxer shorts as I sip my ice cold Vermentino. How cute is the little dust bag as well?

4. Chic Dogs Coffee Table Book By ASSOULINE

This really should be called my favorite things because we’ve already covered jewelry, pajamas, makeup highlighters and now dogs. I need Assouline’s Chic Dogs book for my coffee table purely so I can look at imagery of cute dogs throughout history, culture and fashion. Also if you happen to be in New York, Palm Beach, Paris or London this weekend my friend told me about the launch event that includes a portrait of you and your dog with the purchase of the book. 5. Sangre De Fruta Garden Of Earthly Delights Botanical Hand Wash

My friend texted me the other day and asked for suggestions for hand soaps other than the obvious Aesop, Byredo, Loewe and Diptyque. I’m not saying I don’t love the more obvious options but for an even more unique recommendation I’m lusting over Sangre De Fruta’s Garden Of Earthly Delights Botanical Hand Wash. It's 100% organic, refillable, and formulated with shea butter to nourish while cleansing the hands with rosemary extract. I also want the matching hand lotion. The scent of cedar, sandalwood and bergamot doesn’t overpower and perfect for every day. I understand having a luxurious hand soap isn’t a priority for most people but our relationship is based on no judgement! Sometimes an upgrade to the most basic of items can feel like such a treat. Spring is the perfect time for dinner parties and when your guests wash their hands, this is sure to be a conversation starter. Think of it as jewelry for your bathroom or kitchen.

6. Vintage Tom Ford For Gucci Fall/Winter 1999 Leather Coat

On the heels of Haider Ackermann’s Tom Ford FW25 debut on Wednesday, I thought let’s take a trip down memory lane. I’m also in the mood for a lighter coat now the temperatures are slightly rising. The most recent TF collection was full of leather in black and white and reminded me of this Tom Ford for Gucci coat that was seen in white on the FW99 runway. A lot of you agree with the sentiment that girls don’t want flowers, we want Tom Ford back at Gucci. We may never get our wish, but at least we still have (overpriced) vintage to dream about.

7. The Henson, Catskills

I know we’re not in the ‘going away together’ stage of dating yet, but hear me out. If you’re in the mood for a mini-break outside of New York, I’d try The Henson. Spring getaways are my favorite, and this new 16-room boutique hotel in the Catskills is beautifully designed and rumored to have exceptional food. Don’t worry I’ve done my research and the inn has a fine dining restaurant run by acclaimed chefs. I can’t go anywhere where the food is just mid. I’m hoping it doesn’t get overrun so if you do go, don’t tell anyone. My favorite place closer to the city has gone up in price so I’d rather save the funds for items one through six above. Look at me budgeting! (Remind me to send this to my husband.)

Obviously I know you all love Spinelli Kilcollin rings. I’m not saying I don’t like them! I understand the interconnected rings, mix of metals, and the customizable options are appealing. I think Spinelli rings are so popular because they work for a number of different personal styles and feel unique without feeling over the top. I was lucky enough to get a custom one in 2017 and still wear it to this day and pair it with my Shay chain ring. However, in the past couple years I feel like every fashion girl has one and the non fashion girls want one. I’ve seen a lot of dupes and while I don’t think we’re at the Cartier Love bracelet level of popularity by any means, I think there are other gorgeous stackable options. If the funds for a Spinelli ring just happened to fall off a tree and in to my wallet I probably would buy one of the options below instead. See? Only a little bit of drama this week.

There are no rules.

When it comes to rings and stacking there is no equation as to how many you should wear or the perfect combination. Let’s be honest, numbers aren’t really my thing and the only math I’m good at is girl math. It’s really about how you feel that day, and I think it’s fun to mix and match rings depending on your mood. However, a math equation I can always solve is: rings plus more rings equals happiness. See above re: Victoria Beckham.

In this case, the math is mathing.

Similar to Spinelli, Rainbow K has done most of the stacking work for you. In the Versus ring you get a mix of metals and textures with a tiny pear diamond wrapped in to one. For a slightly more casual and customizable option the double Piercing ring would work well with a number of other rings. If you’re like me and don’t like to be told what to do, play around with a few and see what works. My favorite stack is pairing the Illusion and Wave rings together. A winning combination.

For An Elegant Approach…

Try By Pariah. Their rings are not as decorative as the Rainbow K stack above but that doesn’t make them any less special. The unique combination of the moss agate ring paired with more traditional yellow gold and diamond bands creates an overall look that feels modern with a little twist. What I also love is if you can’t decide on a stack, you could just buy one and continually add over the years. It’s always good to have something to look forward to.

Add A Gold Band.

Sauer’s Theodora ring doesn’t necessarily need to be stacked. The onyx band, paired with the rainbow gemstones speaks for itself. Why limit ourselves though? For fun, I love pairing a yellow gold band with a more decorative ring to add another element of texture and color. I actually wear my gold wedding band, which matches my husband’s, with a diamond signet ring on my pinky and wear my engagement ring by itself. I told you there are no rules! Sidney Garber’s Dome band adds curves and a little height to the stack and is a step up from a simple gold band.

More is More.

Don’t be scared to mix metals and take a cue from stylist Coco Schiffer by creating unexpected stacks with different rings in your collection. You notice she even stacked her Spinelli’s? Coco showcases her Lucy Delius Smartie ring with diamond and silver bands. Personally, I love the combination of layering Kamyen’s Disco pavé ring with Kat Kim’s yellow gold Éternal Cloud ring. This bold stack is sure to be a conversation starter.

Hopefully you’re now well versed in ‘ring math.’

It’s all about creating a combination of textures, metals and gemstones. Most importantly it’s about expressing yourself. Fine jewelry is a monetary commitment and even if you’re not in the market to invest just yet, I’d like to think this added a little inspiration and fantasy to your life.

On the topic of donate an organ worthy jewelry, if a casual $23k happens to be laying around look no further than Nadine Ghosn’s stackable Hamburger ring. Perfect for our next date? I love a burger with no calories. Don’t worry, there’s also a veggie option since you should know I don’t eat red meat even in jewelry form. Therefore, I’m making “Its Not You…It’s…” a series where I recommend unique alternatives to products that have become a little too…mainstream. I promise, no judgement!

Between us, I blame Tik Tok.

As Samantha Jones from Sex and The City once said, “First come the gays, then the girls, then the industry.” In this case, first came the Baccarat devotees, then the celebrities, then the masses. In 2014 Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Baccarat Rouge 540 was originally created as a limited one-off 250 bottle release for the luxury crystal house Baccarat’s 250th anniversary. She was exclusive but that didn’t last long. More than ten years later, Baccarat Rouge 540 (BR540) has quickly become one of the most famous and viral fragrances in the world. Dare I say, the Cartier Love bracelet of fragrances. Currently, the hashtag for the fragrance on TikTok has received 432 million views to date. See my point?

The year was 2023 and I knew things were dire. I was at the gym pretending to workout and what did I smell from the stair master next to me? Baccarat Rouge! I understand the woman in question wanted to smell good but for $335 a bottle we can do better. Preferably outside of the gym. The point is Rihanna’s (alleged) favorite scent is everywhere and on everyone. I’ve smelled it in elevators, doctors offices and even the subway.

Before you break up with me again…

I admit that the appeal of BR540 is not lost on me. Okay fine, it smells delicious, luxurious and intoxicating! Amber, jasmine and saffron unite in a unisex fragrance that’s warm, slightly sweet, a bit floral and mildly woody with hint of spice. It’s sensual without being too sexy. Ideal.

You caught me!

I’ll admit, I used to wear BR540 in 2017. I even stepped it up a notch and bought the extrait version. Eventually, I stopped wearing it in 2019 when my neighbor recognized the scent. I knew at that moment I had to move on in the same way I hope you have all moved on from Le Labo’s Santal 33. I’ll save that for another post.

Obviously if you love Baccarat Rouge, continue wearing it! As you know, I’m all for smelling good but fragrance should be personal and highlight your identity. Why smell like everyone else?

My recommendations are not dupes.

I explored a number of different perfumes, some of which I have and some which I discovered when I left behind the iconic perfume in 2019. I’ve spent hours at Bergdorfs and Scent Bar. I needed a shower by the time I came home, but it was worth it for you! I’m extremely picky and eighty percent of the options I tried did not make the cut. I sprayed the winners on various body parts, smelled, waited for them to dry down and wore them all over the Upper East Side.

Let’s be clear, my suggestions do not smell like BR540 in the literal sense…

Because nothing does. However, they are similar in spirit. When you wear BR540 people are immediately drawn in. I looked for niche fragrances from a scent profile perspective that were warm and had a touch of sweetness without being overpowering. Notes of wood, amber, spice with hints of white florals are present in many of my selections. What the scents below and BR540 also have in common is they are unique, memorable, luxurious and happen to be unisex. They all have depth—meaning, you may not know what notes compose the perfume, but you know it smells good. I guarantee these fragrances will have people asking, “What are you wearing?” It’s up to you if you tell them. (Don’t!)

If you find yourself in the Maison Francis Kurkdjian section of the store…

Do me a favor and try Gentle Fluidity Gold. In my opinion, this is the older more sophisticated sister of BR540. On initial spray the vanilla and amber shine through with warmth and sweetness. As it dries down you get a trail of coriander and woody notes that create a very elegant scent. Perfect for a first date!

Angélique Noire by Guerlain

You should remember how much I love Guerlain fragrances from our first date. Angélique Noire is probably my favorite from my BR540 list and I bought it on the spot. Admittedly, I have no idea what angelica flowers smell like but the scent is intoxicating and sensual. If BR540 was a trendy restaurant full of influencers, Angélique Noire is the hidden gem with twelve seats that your chic friend (me) told you about.

Spiky Muse by Ex Nihilo

Overall, Spiky Muse is a little sweeter and more floral than BR540 but the woody spice adds warmth and depth that combine perfectly. The rose note initially concerned me but you hardly notice it’s there, purely providing a richness and elegance.

Hibiscus Mahajád by Maison Crivelli

I was completely surprised by Hibiscus Mahajád in the best way possible. The 32% extrait concentration means this fragrance will last and projects beautifully without being overpowering. I got so many compliments throughout the day and similar to BR540 this fragrance doesn’t mind being the star of the show.

La Cautiva by Fueguia 1833

I love Fueguia 1833 perfumes because they use high quality raw materials that blend with the person’s skin PH to accentuate the scent. Similar to BR540 La Cautiva is flirty, captivating and honestly, quite yummy.

Don’t we all smell better now?

Well if you take my suggestions you will. I don’t know how Maison Francis Kurkdjian will feel but I think we can collectively agree BR540 has had its run.

Between us, I almost added the new Parfums De Marly Valaya Exclusif to the list but held back because it was slightly too powdery compared to BR540. I’m also worried it will become insanely popular but I urge you to try it.

To be honest, I could have added a couple more to the list so leave a comment and we can discuss further. Debating in the comments really takes our relationship to the next level.

Of course that begs the question, “Why devote an entire post to the topic?” Since you like to be nosy, I do believe there are always exceptions to the rule and pearls have taken on a whole new identity. I’m talking pearlescent angelic makeup to irregular shaped pearl jewelry mixed with gemstones.

These Aren’t Your Grandmother’s Pearls.

No offense to your grandmother of course, but pearls have got a bad rap. I know we’re not in the ‘meet the family’ stage of dating yet so let’s keep that between us.

Regarding jewelry, it’s not about the perfect strand of shiny pearls paired with a twinset. No thank you! Think more Vivienne Westwood, less Vivian Kensington. I love a Legally Blonde reference.

Before we continue, there is something I need to address. It will make us closer, I promise. Okay, so there is a little part of me that thinks some modern pearl jewelry can look a little naff.

I can feel you judging, but let me continue. You know those pearls that look a bit…plastic? I’m going to assume you’re nodding. Luckily, I’ve found fabulous options in the fashion and fine jewelry world that are worth lusting over. Plastic not included.

Pearls can be interesting!

No matter what type of jewelry girl you are, there is a pearl for you. One of the newly opened jewelry stores on Madison Avenue is Brazilian heritage brand, Sauer. If you find yourself uptown I highly recommend you go. You may even be lucky and see me at Sant Ambroeus. I personally love when pearls are mixed with diamonds in a unique way like their Agni necklace. Speaking of, my favorite drink and my favorite stone (champagne diamonds) unite when paired with tiny pearls set in a hefty yellow gold setting a la Nada Ghazal. If you want an edgier diamond option, try the Tiffany Titan pearl ring designed by Pharrell.

For a moodier vibe, I adore the rich dark grey color of Prounis’ pearl earrings. I could see myself wearing them with a black leather trench as they catch the candlelight in a dimly lit bar. Yes, I did just create that faux scenario for myself but it sounds appealing. Maybe our next date? Actually, remind me to send this to my husband. If you’re already engaged however, I suggest Sophie Bille Brahe’s pearl earrings. Perfect for during and after the wedding. There will be more on wedding jewelry in an upcoming newsletter, so strap in! Finally, you know I’m not one to succumb to trends but baroque pearls punctuated the Bottega Veneta SS25 runway so if you are a fashion girl I suggest you get ahead. Their pearl pendant necklace adds a sculptural element to your neck. If you prefer an earring, At Present’s lapis and baroque style earrings make a statement that won’t break the bank.

Pearlescent makeup isn’t a trend, it’s a state of mind.

I’m sure you’re wondering where I’m going with the makeup aspect of this. Remember on our first date when I told you that I would smell good? Well I would also look luminous. We’ve all heard of dewy makeup, but particularly for Winter I love pearlescent makeup enhanced on the skin, eyes and even lips. Yes, it was trending on Tik Tok last year and while I was annoyed the world caught on, I’m happy to report this type of makeup isn’t just a trend. It’s a lifestyle.

Who wouldn’t want to look radiant every day of the week? Sign me up.

So how do we achieve peak pearlescent luminosity?

The goal is to add makeup that creates a reflective and slightly iridescent finish that gives a pearl like effect. I’m sure you’re thinking this seems a little O.T.T but calm down for a moment. Pearlescent makeup can adapt to your existing makeup routine and works for all skin types and skin tones. For textured or mature skin, I would focus on adding luster to the high points of the face, like the tip of the nose, brow bone and cupid’s bow. If you look at my Substack profile picture you’ll get a sense of what I’m talking about. My little secret part on the face to highlight is on the inside of the orbital bone. Quite chic. For darker complexions pick products with warmer iridescent colors like gold, copper and bronze like Fenty’s Killowat Highlighter in Afternoon Snack/Mo' Hunny. Since we’re visual learners, makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes’ tutorial beautifully illustrates how to get pearly, radiant skin for a more everyday look.

I’m sure even your grandma would approve.

Did I spend my whole evening putting together the below graphic? Yes, I did. I also currently use or have tried all of these products. I’m the girl at Sephora with nine different color swatches on her hand figuring out what looks best in different lighting. You should know some products did not make the cut! • When I want you to leave my dinner party, I will in fact kick you out. However, during the meal we can play nice with Miss Manners napkins.

• I’m not one to play Mind Games except when it comes to this scent. It will have everyone asking what you’re wearing but it’s up to you if you want to share.

• The number of times I’ve gifted this monogrammed lip balm is too many to count. The packaging is also divine.

• Designer lip balm is a little O.T.T but this one from Hermès is fun to give to your friend because they probably won’t buy it themselves. It also really moisturizes your lips. Perfect before a kiss.

• When you want to look flushed without it being too much, try Hourglass’s liquid blush. I have the color Vision and tap it on my skin with their No.15 brush.

• I bought these Chanel eye patches and while they’re not the cheapest ones on the market, they are the most fun to wear around the house.

• My daily nightmare is being puffy, especially on Valentine’s Day. I use this OMAD sheet mask on a weekly basis because it’s one of the very few sheet masks that actually works. Keep it in the fridge for extra de-puffing.

For The Bedroom (And Beyond)

• The floral beaded mesh on this Kiki blindfold is a bit more fun over function but isn’t that the point in the boudoir?

• Olivia Von Halle’s pajamas are beautiful even for outside the bedroom. I wore mine on an Italian road trip. If sleep is really important to you look no further than her silk eye mask.

• Tom Ford boxer briefs are the perfect gift for any guy because you know he won’t buy them himself. (I did in fact gift this exact pair to my husband. No you don’t get to see photos, relax.)

• Did you think I would get through this email without an AP corset? Just make sure you take the time to lace it up properly.

I realize the title of this post is a rather bold statement but before you break up with me, hear me out. I know it’s early days and our first date was only last Friday, but honesty is important in any relationship. Despite the fact the original Cartier Love bracelet was inspired by real heartbreak, I’m in this relationship for the long haul. Jewelry is my love language after all!

Stop giving me those judgmental looks.

Relax, this isn’t our first fight. I know you were startled by my last post when I said we weren’t buying Cartier Love bracelets in 2025. I’m not judging you for buying or lusting over one. Of course, buying and wearing a piece of jewelry you love should always be celebrated. If that’s the Love bracelet then go for it. However, relationships are about trying new things and we need to broaden our horizons.

How do I say this nicely? Over the past ten years the Cartier Love bracelet has become a little mainstream. There I said it! Okay I feel better. I’m not trying to stir the pot but I’m also the housewife who would bring receipts to the reunion. So let’s start with the facts. In 2016, the iconic Cartier Love bracelet was the most Googled piece of jewelry in the entire world. See where I’m going with this?

Today, whether you love it or hate it, the bracelet has cemented its place in the luxury world as a recognizable status symbol.

Can we move on though?

If you find yourself at Cartier, I’m begging you to explore a little. Contrary to what you might think I actually like Cartier. Many of their pieces, like the Reflection de Cartier watch we spoke about on Friday, are truly exceptional. The Baignoire watch is perfect for everyday. If you gave me five minutes and $78,000 (not including tax) I would come out the store wearing the Panthère de Cartier ring. In reality, I’m more likely to buy the Maillon Panthère ring. If you remember, I already gave up an organ for a corset last week but a girl can dream. Don’t get me started on vintage Cartier. I’ve been fully obsessing over this vintage Cartier Trinity band in yellow and rose gold, adorned with diamonds, rubies and pink sapphires. It was just my birthday, but remind me to send this to my husband.

Before you get upset with me…

My suggestions below are not replicas or dupes. Between us, I don’t believe in that concept. I’ve included a selection of alternatives inspired by the bracelet’s unisexuality and sleek bangle form. Okay, I tried a little pun. In my opinion, the Tiffany & Co Lock bangle is the most obvious alternative. I stacked a few of them on my wrist and found the bangles a bit younger and sleeker than your Cartier favorite. I’ve also seen less of them out and about which can only be a good thing. The Tiffany option has the same stackable, collectible effect without all the hype. A little tea you may not know, but many years ago Aldo Cipullo, the designer of the Cartier Love bracelet worked at Tiffany. They rejected his iconic bracelet design so he left and presented it to Cartier. The rest is history! I love a bit of drama with my jewels.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

Sure, you could buy the Love bracelet but wouldn’t you rather look a little more grown up? If Boucheron’s Quatre Classique were a man he would have attended Le Rosey, be seen in head to toe Loro and ski in Andermatt. He would also buy you Chopard’s Ice Cube geometric bangle as a gift just because.

Subtlety isn’t my strong suit but Dinh Van’s Pulse bracelet and Serrure bracelet say a lot without saying too much. If you want options, Nouvel Heritage has a large collection of bangles. Just, do me a favor and buy the one I like, because we’re still in the dating phase where you’re trying to impress me. Finally, if you prefer The Row over Hermès, Viltier’s Edge bangle is unique without trying too hard. We love that.

The gatekeeper in me didn’t want to share this.

If this were our first date…

Without a doubt I would smell good and I encourage you to do the same. Would I tell you exactly what my mystery scent was? Obviously not. I’ll be gatekeeping that for life. However, I may give you a little hint if the need for a gift was ever to arise.

If you must know a scent that I’m obsessed with it’s Guerlain’s Vanille Planifolia Extract 21. I know scents are very personal, but even if you’re not a vanilla guy/girl, this one is the holy grail. My husband is partial to vanilla, and I’ve tried every vanilla scent in existence. Vanille Planifolia isn’t sickly sweet or synthetic. It’s a delicate balance of vanilla and amber and has a slight woody dry down that lasts beautifully on the skin because of the extract formulation. It doesn’t overpower, so the only person that can smell it is the one you want close to you. Please just don’t bother with any of their other fragrances unless they’re a part of the L’Art & La Matière collection. As a bonus, you can customize the bottle so you’re also getting jewelry for your bathroom. I love a win, win.

If you must know, I’m a bath person.

Hopefully you’ve made it through my essay of an intro email or my about page and learned that I grew up in London where baths are common. I know the Americans reading this are disgusted by the idea of soaking in ‘dirty’ water but before you stop reading let me entice you.

I’d also like to note that at some point in 2012 Tom Ford claimed to take four baths a day. Now he is allegedly down to just one. What I’m trying to say is I’m in good company. Further proof you can look hot, while you rot.

If you’re not taking a bubble bath in full glam and diamonds a la Christy (above), what are you really doing in life? I know the Americans like to be cozy so at least be chic in a monogrammed Aman robe. Okay, back to smelling good. Perfume the atmosphere with Officine Universelle Buly’s Alexandrie Candle that looks elegant in a personalized marble holder. They also make an amazing comb like this fun colorful one. To be honest, I love all their products so please keep this between us. Regarding skin, I’ve recently gone through a whole tube of Adipeau’s Active Face Cream. Don’t be startled by the word active. I use it as an overnight moisture mask on my extremely sensitive skin and wake up my real age - twenty-seven. Just do me a favor. If you buy it please make sure you pat it on to your skin like kids finger painting instead of rubbing it in. If you do choose the rubbing method just don’t tell me! To top it off, soak in 1000 Tuscan flowers in the form of a lush bath oil made by the estate where I happened to get married. You could also go there for the full experience if your heart desires. Again, a win, win.

Okay, I know it’s just the first date…

But we’ve got to set the tone with good bed karma. For the future of course. We’re ladies after all. The most elegant woman I know also owns the chicest luxury linen company in the world, D. Porthault Paris. I may be biased, but once my husband slept in these sheets he could never return to normalcy. A common theme when married to me. Yes, the sheets are an investment, but we spend a lot of time in bed so why not look elegant while dozing off. Even the Queen of all things bed related, Samantha Jones, rolled around with Smith in the first Sex And The City Movie in Porthault sheets. Not to rip off Sabrina Carpenter, but that sounds like ‘really good bed chem.’

Now I guess we need to move on to what to wear. It’s the first date after all. Since you’ve made it this far you must have realized I’m far from chill when it comes to anything in life. I mean, this newsletter is called Low Key High Maintenance for God’s sake!

So, a first date means it’s time to pull out a corset.

I wore a corset when I met my husband and wore at least three when I married him so I feel like it’s tradition at this point. I’ll eventually do a whole newsletter on corsets but for now I’ll just tell you my favorites are from Wiederhoeft, Vivienne Westwood (duh) and Schiaparelli. Sadly, I would need to donate an organ to buy these brands. Luckily, I’m willing to give one up in order to suck it in so I have no waist. A win, win? I’d say so.

This would be the part of the date where you ask if I want to have another drink.

The answer is yes, and champagne (not prosecco) please. Given it’s the first date with no proposal in sight we can settle for some gold and diamonds but I’ve got my eye on the prize here. Or, you could just upgrade to a paid subscription. If you haven’t subscribed what are you waiting for?

My grandmother once told me, it’s good luck to mix metals like silver, white gold and yellow gold. I’d like to think she was on to something and I feel lucky when I’m wearing Rainbow K’s Nano Gold Ball Huggies. So really, lucky you. The French brand makes jewelry with a little redefined twist, like the ring I’ve been lusting over for three years and counting. Hint hint.

Remind me to send this to my husband.

Speaking of, he proposed with a marquise diamond so if you’re in the mood for my favorite shaped stone you can be like Carrie and wear this Kat Kim version around your neck. Between us I’m usually five minutes late, but I would be early if I had the new Reflection De Cartier watch. Finally, why not try my former boss’s new design for Louis Vuitton? The Damier collection showcases the House’s motif in an extremely wearable way without being too in your face. I’m going to hold your hand when I say this, but we aren’t buying Cartier Love bracelets in 2025. I never have, but I know at least three of you are currently staring at yours locked on your wrist. No judgement, but we can do better and luckily I’ll guide you.
