Quick thoughts on not responding so quickly to what we see from imperialist media on their related social platforms, especially when real revolutionaries’ names appear in support.

Sometimes, no investigation, no right to speak, means don’t say or post anything until you know more.

A lot of us haven’t learned that well, either.

But that’s only true if you’re a certain kind of person. Because we’ve all seen others do all kinds of wild, illegal, immoral stuff and either not be punished at all or, if they were found out, receive slaps on the wrist, if that much. For one of them to be relieved of their position for these kinds of acts that Dr. Jason Arday was accused of is not necessarily rare, but compared to how we are unceremoniously escorted out of professions because of mere allegations of wrongdoing...

The really difficult part of this conversation is that all that scrutiny does not always come just from the media and your opponents. It can also come from your own community, viewers/fans/listeners, and even mentors and people who say they want to help and support, but don’t know how to talk to people and see training and mentoring like military boot camp. So their help and support can sound and feel like attacks, blaming, and shaming, because that is how they were taught not to make the same mistakes again. But maybe making people feel like shit because they did something that was not the precursor to the opening of the Seventh Seal is a whole other form of abuse that nobody deserves ever for any reason.

Then again, a lot of these folks are the same ones who say they were beaten by their parents and they turned out fine. Then you watch them struggle to handle personal conflict without lashing out and belittling people. So you realize they’re very fucked up by those abusive beatings and every other colonial dysfunction that most of our parents and grandparents did not realize they were copying when they disciplined us and tried to keep us safe from the brutal “correction” of lynch mobs and racist law enforcement and judges and whatnot.

Then there is the public aspect of it all, which Dr. Arday didn’t experience the way we analysts and journalists who do online work do, with constant snipes and smears from anyone with access to your content. Every time you are online, which can be every day for some people (not me; I do stuff off this platform, a lot of stuff, fun stuff, and sometimes dirty stuff, but I do offline stuff), someone is in your comments hijacking your conversation for whatever bug they have up their butt. Viewers complain about your content but do not consider or even think about the time you put into the content you did provide. Viewers dismiss your entire analysis because they don’t agree with your use of a word that they don’t think means exactly what they want it to mean (like the word “fascism”, and refusing to believe fascism is here right now and always has been unless it’s ushered in by well-dressed, young, blond, jackbooted thugs marching down the street). People want to argue about a topic you are not discussing, and then start attacking you personally because you’re trying to maintain your discussion about the issue you prepared and are presenting on your platform or show. And those are the people who call themselves political and want to engage!

Then after that, you have the typical trolls who come in with all caps and cuss words or racist or gendered or weird slurs, trying to get a rise out of you. For example, the other day I did a live, and somebody commented from somewhere that I look like I’m a demon, and they had to block me because I look evil. I kid you not. I was hoping they would stick around so I could say some things to them in Slipknot to test my Demonic Delivery, but they robbed me of that joy, and I’m a little mad about it; I had the perfect Slipknot song to respond to them with and everything!

I call this the Hierarchy of Online Harassment, and I’ve been navigating it since 2015. It’s a cesspool sometimes, honestly, and the people in it can really distract you from all the rest of the support you do get, because our brains just work to hold on to the things that stand out the most, and personal insults can grab us faster and hold us longer than 20 chat messages in support. Or maybe that’s just MY brain. Maybe your brain is more cooperative with you than mine. My brain and I are in constant conversation about it not doing this. Yet, sometimes it persists.

Of course you can and should block people; and I absolutely will block people, because I don’t care how much you want to share information, nobody is obligated to endure anybody’s abuse. If you wouldn’t tolerate people talking to you like that in real life, I have no idea why people think we should tolerate it online. But realistically, you simply cannot block every asshole who makes it their day job to harass you because they just don’t like what you have to say. So part of this struggle is also training yourself to pay as little attention to them as possible and just keep doing your thing. SSRIs help a lot with that! But again, maybe that’s just my brain on my trauma needing a little help to stay on track and not crash out at every slick, racist, sexist, nasty comment.

That is also easier to do when your paycheck and livelihood do not depend on what those people have to say about you, though. The difference between what I have experienced and what Dr. Arday did is that the detractors aren’t keeping me from paying my mortgage. Capitalism is making that hard enough. They aren’t getting me fired from a job. They don’t threaten my livelihood and my ability to survive. Oh, it is absolutely true that as an African, Leftist, Liberation Theology-focused organizer, journalist, and commentator, growing my platform has not been as dynamic and successful as others; so I have NEVER been able to “make a living” off of this online commentary thing. I made real money when this online commentary thing got me the job at Sputnik Radio on By Any Means Necessary, but it has not before and does not now provide enough support for me not to worry about how I am going to pay my mortgage without SSDI since we were fired in October 2023, and I had my kidney transplant in November 2023. I might be able to pay a couple of utility bills with the proceeds from these videos and articles, but that’s it. OK it might keep me able to buy a few cute outfits and dog treats and garden supplies from Temu and Shein (shut up, keep your opinion on them to yourself). But YouTube, Patreon and Substack revenue ain’t giving me an influencer lifestyle, I’ll tell you that.

And yes, that’s a whole separate conversation about who is able to benefit financially from these fascist tech platforms and what they have to do in order to do that, but that’s for another day. And honestly, that conversation has been had before. We should all know by now that controversy is how a lot of platforms grow, and that picking fights with other content creators, along with only talking about trending topics that appeal to an established audience, is how that growth is facilitated. Feed the algorithm what it says is trending, or the algorithm ignores you and relegates you to the shadowy corners of the innanets.

But I’ve never been willing to chase celebrity, clout, and clicks from controversies that many had no problem doing. And I’ve been involved in a few of them as an unwitting target or an unwilling witness. Abdus absolutely WOULD NOT. That man said, “Baby, we are going to have real conflicts with real people enough as organizers. I promise you, we do not have to cook up some shit to get more views and subscribers.” He ain’t never lied. Regardless, the scrutiny I get in the public eye stresses my mental health, but doesn’t threaten my ability to survive.

What was done to Jason Arday, however, is much, much worse, more insidious, and obviously more deadly than anything we may endure on these political internet streets. And the broadcasting of his story to the world is another aspect of that coordinated attack that we should note, as I believe it is a warning to the rest of Africans, leftists, progressives, non-white Christian Nationalist Zionists who are still in academia: this is how we are going to get rid of all of you. And it should be the evidence that the forces working to entrench and institutionalize fascism in the U.S. are part of a global, organized effort to do the same around the world. You don’t really think all those right-wing presidents being “elected” in Global South countries this year that had progressive leaders is a coincidence, do you? They are all the result of U.S. election interference as part of this global coordinated effort to take control of all the resources of the Western Hemisphere for the glory of White Western Civilization through neo-colonialism and expanding imperialism. And both political parties support this as nearly everyone in them are avowed and proud capitalists, imperialists, and Zionists.

Plymouth CUCC is in a progressive denomination, is a Liberation Theology-influenced congregation, and has begun a political education series to understand the primary contradictions that prop up this system that Christians are absolutely called to not only challenge with our spiritual practices, but to fight with the power of the divinity we say we believe in.

We in BoSA have been working on putting something like this together for years, having held several standalone teach-ins on specific issues such as defense vs. social spending and Palestine in the past. I will post those videos, too, since the teach-in on Palestine was particularly wonderful, bringing together leaders from the three involved Abrahamic religions to dispel zionist lies. We did that several years ago before this recent genocide, and it was one of my beloved Abdus’s proudest accomplishments. Abdus and I were welcomed into the church and this work by the late Senior Pastor Emeritus Graylan S. Hagler and other ministers and members who were just as excited that we wanted to do this work in the Christian community. We’re anti-imperialists, Abdus and I, you see, and we’re also people of deep and unshakable faith. We were concerned about our politics being welcomed in a church, since the church we left, which I had been a member of for years and even served in youth ministry there, was not a welcoming place for radical Black Christians who believe the Bible commands us to do much more than we are to defend the poor and oppressed from empire, and to challenge it.

The first session of this new political education series focuses on Understanding Capitalism. This video is of that session. The language used might not be typical Marxist or Leftist language, but I’m learning to teach these concepts to an audience that is neither and still have them understand the realities of these exploitative systems. Which seems to be going really well, judging from the engagement in the sessions. A pivotal question is asked at the end of this session, and the audience's engagement in the next session is even more dynamic!

If you like this video, why don’t you share it with your Christian friends and family who need to know that capitalism isn’t Christian? Because that’s what I’m ultimately saying here. Capitalism, despite what many Christians would have you believe today, is the farthest thing from God’s idea of economic activity and policy, and it needs to be made clear why. Capitalism’s growth itself is anathema to Biblical principles, and the refusal to contend with the real history of its development on the backs of oppressed people needs to be exposed; the whole bloody, evil affair of white Christian Nationalists claiming that Christianity is God’s economic preference (and Christians of other ethnicities somehow believing this bullshit) is actually an idea from the minds of fascists and genocidaires.

Did you think I was going to say Satan? Man, Satan said he wouldn’t have thought up THIS kind of evil. He may be the Devil, but he said he doesn’t exploit humans for profit! Just for fun sometimes…because we’re so gullible….and I mean, I can’t be mad at him for that because it’s true.

Community members from the Summer Community Organization and Political Education (SCOPE) group had been meeting at the church for several months, working to promote Black voter registration in Alabama and the rest of the South. According to the 1960 census, Black residents made up over 75% of the population of Wilcox County. However, because of established practices and laws passed with the intent of suppressing the Black vote—which were enforced in discriminatory ways—no Black people in Wilcox County were registered to vote during the 1964 election.

When people at the Antioch Baptist Church began registering Black voters, they were quickly targeted by the white community. Two days before Sheriff P.C. Jenkins evicted people from the church, a group of white men had broken into the building and beaten two Black teenagers, inflicting injuries so severe that they were both hospitalized. Rather than providing protection from this violence, on July 1, Sheriff Jenkins announced that the church had been the cause of “too much disturbance,” and gave people only a few hours to clear out their belongings before putting a padlock on the door.

Though Sheriff Jenkins claimed that at least one church leader had expressed opposition to having the church involved in civil rights activism, the following day the chairman of the Board of Deacons denied that claim, and two weeks later the congregation and board of the church unanimously voted to support the church’s involvement in registering Black voters.”

On July 1, 2026, the police aren’t locking church doors because of organizing for rights going on inside, but the ideology that drove white people to violate the sanctity of the houses of worship of Black people continues to affect us today. As much as white Christians in this country claim to believe in the same God as the people whose churches they attacked, the truth is that they didn’t consider Christianity, the Gospel, or church sacred. They considered their white supremacist version of those things sacred. That then and now, what many white people who claim Christianity believed was a perversion of it, that we now call white Christian nationalism. It is not a faith doctrine but a political and cultural ideology, very much like its little brother, Zionism. And although it is not an explicitly stated policy, its impact is felt in politics that affect society both past and present.

The lawmakers influenced by this ideology frequently introduce legislation intended to reflect their moral worldview, not actual Christian ideology based on scripture, or even the idea of the Golden Rule, treat others like you would want to be treated. Their worldview is shaped by POWER AND WEALTH as expressions of Godly anointing, even though the Bible itself says that the pursuit of both is evil.

They use the concept of a “Christian nation” to make arguments for stricter immigration laws, based on concerns about cultural or demographic changes. They say it’s “crime,” but it’s really racial and “cultural/ideological” purity. And the ideology is white Christian nationalism. There are MILLIONS of white Christians sitting in churches in the very cities and towns where violent ICE raids and kidnappings are happening, giving alleged spiritual approval for the actions under the guise of the natural consequences for the illegality of their presence, if they say anything about it at all. If you were wondering why there aren’t more protests by more people every single day, this, I think, is one reason. But we must be clear that not opposing racial repression, or responding to uppity Blacks Christians organizing for equality and justice by locking Black church doors to stop it, is the very least violent thing that many white, Christian-identifying citizens did. They believe the violence is sometimes necessary to achieve their vision of a “godly” America. For them, if it’s not clear by now, that means a largely white one.

So the push for having the Ten Commandments in courthouses or state capitols or public schools, and official proclamations like the National Day of Prayer – that is a white Christian Nationalist concoction (see Netflix documentary The Family) – that are used both as flashpoints for the culture wars these weirdos wage, and as tools of indoctrination for the next generation of holy race soldiers they want to raise. It’s funny in a terrifying way that these people make a big deal about Muslims “forcing their Sharia Laws!!” on America, but it’s actually white Christian nationalists who are forcing their white racist moneygod law on the rest of us. And that is what they worship, power and money. Not whatever any actual spiritual entity may or may not be. And for the record, I think there are a lot of them, and they all probably hate these people.

So that you’re not confused that I’m advancing a solely religious/spiritual conversation here, politically, much of what they have wanted to do for decades has been accomplished. And that is largely because, aside from the organized and legally accepted suppressive violence committed by white racial terror mobs that were part of the enforcement apparatus of the white supremacist apartheid state, the alleged opposition Democratic Party of today has ceased to operate on behalf of the downtrodden and oppressed targeted by that violence. This has resulted in their complicity in many legislative efforts pushed by white Christian nationalists, or their refusal to mount a real challenge to them, because the money tied to their outcomes is just too good for many Democrats to turn down. For many Christian Democrats, calling out moral evil against the oppressed from the House or Senate floor is done less and less. The language of bipartisanship and compromise has been their message since at least the 1980s, with the Democratic Leadership Council and their “Third Way” politics of adopting conservative economic and social policies to appeal to more middle-class and “moderate” Republican voters. Not only did the Democratic Party abandon the Black and white working class and the poor, LGBTQIA+, disabled, elderly, youth, and other vulnerable people for a bigger paycheck and more power for themselves, but their colluding with the right made today’s policies not only possible, but morally acceptable among white Christians who are not conservative-leaning or blatantly racist.

What a time to be a Liberation Theology-focused Christian living in the beating heart of modern empire that is the driving force behind white Christian Nationalist apocalyptic domination ideology and its promotion of capitalism at the center of its beliefs. Basically, yes, capitalism and imperialist domination and hegemony are really at the center of white Christian Nationalist thought and action. So their worship is not of the God and Jesus of the Bible, but of their god of conquest, control, power, and profit.

This is something I have been thinking about deeply over the years as I have struggled with my faith, and something I tried to synthesize in a Lenten season message I was asked to present for my church last week. Because I am not a pastor, preacher, theologian, or Biblical scholar, but an anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, internationalist, Pan-African organizer who is personally a socialist, I thought about the practice of Christian fasting for Lent, or for any reason, against the backdrop of today’s horrible, murderous, genocidal events. What does our faith mean in the context of so-called Christians carrying out these acts? What does it mean for us “lay believers” that the people in power claim to be standardbearers of this same faith, while carrying out actions that are contrary to what the faith itself dictates?

As confusing and contradictory as modern translations of the Bible are (it is not the “infallible, inerrant word of God;” rather it is a collection of translations of translations of translations of mistranslations of stories, allegories, and ancient apocalyptic prose that does not mean literally what many claim it does, and was not meant to be taken literally in the first place, but that’s a whole different set of essays), the miracle of the text is that there are valuable, relevant, and very important ideas within the verses that do matter to the world we live in today.

Say their names.

Cynthia, Carole, Addie, and Denise were all murdered today in 1963, when the Ku Klux Klan bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. 22 people were also injured. The church was not only home to a predominantly Black congregation, but it was also a meeting place for civil rights activists. In fact, many of the civil rights marches in Birmingham began on the steps of that church.

The bombing that took their lives was not uncommon in the city; however shocking it was that children were the victims. Because in Birmingham at the time, racist bombings of Black homes and churches were so common that the city was nicknamed “bombingham.” And bomb threats against the 16th Street Baptist Church were common as well because it was a meeting place for civil rights organizing and mobilization.

Of course, Birmingham’s white supremacists were immediately suspected in the bombing. But for more than a decade, nothing was done to pursue the murderers until 1977, when Alabama Attorney General Bob Baxley reopened the investigation, and Klan leader Robert E. Chambliss was finally tried for the bombings and convicted of murder. He died in prison in 1985. The case was reopened again in 1980, 1988, and 1997, because there were always other accomplices, and two other former Klan members, Thomas Blanton and Bobby Frank Cherry, were finally brought to trial. Blanton was convicted in 2001, and Cherry in 2002. A fourth suspect, Herman Frank Cash, died in 1994 before he could be brought to trial.

It was later revealed that the FBI had information concerning the identity of the terrorist murderers as early as 1965 and did nothing. Although officials claimed that the agency did not intentionally withhold the information, there was also no reason given for why the information was not shared with prosecutors during the original trial. One of the pieces of discovered evidence was a recording of Thomas Blanton admitting that he planted the bomb. Because the FBI withheld this evidence, the terrorist murderers were allowed to live freely after taking the lives of four little Black girls for decades. The families of those children and that community tirelessly pursued justice that the FBI denied.

When I saw "Hands Off NATO" on the list of demands for the anti-Trump demo, I said eff them bammas because how are you going to defend the white supremacist international gang of imperialist thugs that oppresses and slaughters people around the world at the command of the US while demanding this particular administration keep its hands off YOUR stuff? Tell me you don’t care about how many people around the world die at the business end of US imperialism without saying the words.”

Other people around the world don't deserve to have NATO keep their hands off THEM? Oh those folks at that march don't care about what NATO does to the rest of the world, just as long as we get to keep our Social Security, everybody else's human rights and dignity be damned, let the former colonizers go on and keep their neocolonial operations going in the countries they colonized previously.

This is why being ANTI-IMPERIALIST and not just "anti-war" is CRITICAL. You end up making stupid, self-defeating demands like Hands Off NATO, then wonder why the endless wars never stop.

I saw one lady with a sign that said RESIST and I commented to my comrade that Trump tells his followers to FIGHT, but liberals tell each other and themselves to "resist." I suppose their idea of resisting is celebrating Cory Booker saying absolutely meaningless words for 25 hours, which did nothing to deter Democrats from immediately voting for another Trump appointment after the last word was spoken, and it sure didn’t stop Booker from voting to send more weapons to Nazrael to continue the genocide of Gaza.

Fight is pretty unambiguous even if you're not sure which kind of fight is needed, but what exactly does resist mean? How are you going to resist? What are you going to resist? Who are you going to resist? Trump? You know the genocide, the warmongering and child slavery in Congo, the foreign invasion of Haiti, the horrible abuses in Ecuador, El Salvador, the sanctions and political attacks on Cuba, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and a 3rd of the globe by the US was all going on under Biden. Where were folks resisting any of that and all the domestic economic degradation and repression of organizers and protesters unleashed under Biden/Harris?
