At 19, I was in school studying musical theatre, and I was pretty sure I knew what the next ten years of my life were going to look like. I couldn’t have told you exactly where I’d be living or what I’d be doing on a random Tuesday, but I had a picture in my head. A career I had worked toward for most of my life. A relationship that would probably be turning into a proposal soon. And, above all else, the general sense that by 29, I would have figured it out.

Ten years later, I’m sitting in my apartment in New York City, working in fashion, writing a newsletter called Martini On A Tuesday, and preparing to turn 29. It is a life that 19-year-old me never could have predicted.

Not better. Not worse. Just different.

And lately, I’ve had a harder time accepting the “different” part than I’d like to admit.

There’s something about approaching 30 that makes it very easy to start taking inventory of your life. You look at the things you have, but somehow, your eyes always seem to linger on the things you don’t. The milestones you thought you would have reached by now. The plans that changed. The timelines that quietly slipped away. And then you open your phone and see someone getting engaged, someone buying a house, someone having a baby, someone announcing the career move of a lifetime, and suddenly it feels like everyone was handed the same schedule except you. I’ve spent a lot of time recently wondering if I’m behind.

Behind who, or behind what, I’m not entirely sure.

Because when I actually stop and look at the last ten years, almost none of it happened the way I thought it would. The life I was so certain I was working toward at 19 is not the life I’m living at 29. And maybe the most surprising part is that I don’t wish it were. I think I’ve spent so much time worrying that my life doesn’t look the way I thought it would at 29 that I almost forgot to look at the life I actually built.

And there is so much of it I don’t want to miss.

So, as I head into the last year of my twenties, I’m trying something that doesn’t come particularly natural to me. I’m trying to stop checking the clock. To stop treating 30 like a deadline. To stop measuring my life against an imaginary version of myself who only ever existed in the mind of a 19-year-old girl who, as it turns out, had absolutely no idea what was coming. She couldn’t have predicted the last ten years.

Maybe I don’t need to predict the next ten either.

I wish I could say that realizing all of this has suddenly cured me of comparing my life to everyone else’s. It hasn’t.

I still catch myself doing the mental math. If this happens by this age, then maybe that can happen by that age. I still see someone else hit a milestone and, even when I’m genuinely happy for them, wonder for a second what it says about me that I haven’t hit it yet. I still have moments where 30 feels less like a birthday and more like a deadline I somehow forgot I was working toward.

But I’m starting to realize how exhausting it is to live that way.

There will always be another milestone. Another person who seems a few steps ahead. Another version of my life I could convince myself I should be living instead. If I keep waiting until everything falls into place to feel like my life has officially started, I could spend a very long time waiting.

And the funny thing is, so much of what I have now was once something I wanted.

I wanted to live in New York. I wanted a career that excited me. I wanted to work in fashion. I wanted to build something that was mine. I wanted a life filled with great friends, dinners that go too late, trips I talk about for months afterward, clothes I love, and a city that somehow still makes an ordinary Tuesday feel like something could happen.

Somewhere along the way, those things stopped feeling like dreams I had achieved and started feeling like the background of my life.

Maybe that’s the part I want to change at 29.

Not my relationship status. Not my address. Not my job title. Not some imaginary checklist of things I need to accomplish before the clock strikes midnight on my thirtieth birthday. I want to get better at noticing.

I want to notice when I’m sitting around a table with people I love instead of wondering where we’ll all be five years from now. I want to buy the dress and actually wear it instead of saving it for an occasion worthy of it. I want to take the trip without thinking about all the other places I should be going. I want to celebrate my friends’ milestones without quietly using them as a measuring stick for my own. I want to let a good season of life be good without immediately asking what comes next.

I’ve always been someone who gets nostalgic for things before they’re even over. I can be in the middle of a perfect night and already feel sad that eventually we’ll have to go home. I can be halfway through a trip and start thinking about the flight back. I can look at the people around a table and wonder what all of our lives will look like years from now.

There’s something beautiful about caring that much. But there’s also something a little sad about constantly standing outside of your own life, watching it become a memory before you’ve finished living it.

I don’t want to do that with 29.

I don’t want this year to be one long countdown to 30. I don’t want to spend it trying to become some imaginary version of myself who has checked all the right boxes by the right age. And I definitely don’t want to arrive at my next birthday only to realize I spent the entire year thinking about where I should be instead of appreciating where I was.

At 19, I thought I knew exactly what 29 would look like.

I was wrong. And, for once, I’m glad I was.

Not because this life is better than the one I imagined, but because it’s mine. It was built out of a million decisions, accidents, changed plans, heartbreaks, opportunities, friendships, risks, and moments that 19-year-old me never could have accounted for. There was no timeline I could have written then that would have gotten every part of it right. So maybe I can stop trying to write one now.

I’m not making a “30 before 30” list. There will be no frantic race to become a more accomplished, more settled, more adult version of myself over the next 365 days. I’m sure there are things I’ll work toward and things I’ll hope for. I’m still me, after all. But more than anything, I want 29 to be the year I stop waiting for the next version of my life long enough to enjoy this one. I want to be present.

Or at least, dressing according to what the internet told me rich people looked like. Somewhere along the way, my closet became a sea of neutrals. I wanted the perfect white button-down, the perfect pair of jeans, the perfect black sweater, the perfect leather bag with absolutely nothing on it. If an outfit looked like I could casually disappear to the South of France for the summer without telling anyone, I wanted in. And I wasn’t alone.

For the last few years, fashion has been obsessed with looking expensive without looking like you’re trying to look expensive. Logos disappeared. Beige took over. The Row became the blueprint, Sofia Richie Grainge became everyone’s style muse overnight, and suddenly we were all discussing “investment pieces” like we had a standing appointment with our wealth manager.

And listen, I loved it. I still love it. There is something undeniably chic about a perfectly tailored pair of trousers and a cashmere sweater. Quiet luxury gave us an appreciation for great basics, beautiful fabrics, and buying pieces we might actually want to wear for longer than a season.

But lately, I’ve found myself wanting a little more.

I want the weird necklace. The leopard-print shoe. The bag charm that serves absolutely no practical purpose. I want color and texture and prints and pieces that make someone stop and ask, “Wait, where did you get that?” I want to look at an outfit and feel like I can tell something about the person wearing it.

Because maybe after years of everyone wanting to look rich, we’re finally ready to look interesting again.

The funny thing about quiet luxury is that it was never really supposed to be a trend.

The whole point was that these clothes existed outside of the trend cycle. A beautiful coat was a beautiful coat. A perfectly cut pair of trousers didn’t need to be reinvented every six months. The people we were supposedly taking inspiration from weren’t chasing trends because, well, that would defeat the entire purpose of looking like you had never once checked the price tag.

Then the internet got involved.

Suddenly, quiet luxury wasn’t just a way of dressing. It was an aesthetic to achieve. We had “old money” outfit formulas, endless lists of the pieces you needed to look expensive, and entire wardrobes built around cream, camel, navy, and black. We learned which logos were acceptable (none), which fabrics looked expensive, and somehow convinced ourselves that the difference between looking chic and looking cheap could come down to the exact shade of beige.

And like every trend that starts as a rejection of trends, it eventually became one itself.

The irony is that in our collective pursuit of looking timeless, we all started looking a little bit the same. Which might explain why the things that feel exciting right now are almost the complete opposite. Fashion is getting weird again — in the best way. There are charms hanging off bags, scarves tied around waists, belts over everything, brooches where brooches probably don’t belong, and jewelry that would never be described as “dainty.” Leopard print is practically a neutral. Color is creeping back in. Even the most basic outfits suddenly have one thing that makes you look twice.

And I don’t think this means we’re headed back to full-blown maximalism. I’m not suggesting we abandon our capsule wardrobes and start dressing like the inside of a jewelry box. If anything, the best outfits right now still have that quiet-luxury foundation. The difference is what happens after.

Take the white button-down — but add the ridiculous necklace.

Wear the simple black dress — but with the shoe that makes absolutely no sense.

Keep the great jeans and white T-shirt — but add a vintage belt, a silk scarf, or enough jewelry that your wrists make noise when you walk.

It’s less about buying an entirely new wardrobe and more about making the one you already have feel like yours.

And maybe that’s the part of this shift I love most. For so long, the goal seemed to be looking effortless. You weren’t supposed to look like you had thought too hard about your outfit. Everything needed to be understated, refined, and just imperfect enough to suggest you had thrown it together five minutes before leaving your very expensive apartment.

But where’s the fun in pretending we don’t care?

I like getting dressed. I like spending twenty minutes deciding which earrings look better. I like buying something completely unnecessary because it makes an otherwise boring outfit ten times better. I like when my friends show up wearing something I would never have thought to put together myself. Clothes are supposed to tell us something about the person wearing them, and somewhere between the beige cashmere and perfectly tailored trousers, I think we forgot that a little bit.

That doesn’t mean quiet luxury is dead. If anything, it did us a favor. It reminded us that quality matters, that not everything needs to be replaced every season, and that sometimes the simplest pieces really are the best ones in your closet.

Maybe we just don’t need to be so quiet about them anymore.

So I’m keeping the white shirts, the good denim, the simple dresses, and every black sweater I have convinced myself is somehow different from the other twelve in my closet. But I’m also adding the leopard shoe. The oversized earrings. The belt that serves no purpose other than looking good. The slightly ridiculous bag charm. Because if the last few years were about building the perfect wardrobe, maybe this next era is about actually having some fun with it.

Which brings me to this week’s links. I’m not telling you to overhaul your closet or abandon every neutral you own. Maybe quiet luxury isn’t going anywhere — and honestly, I don’t want it to. I’ll always love a good basic and an outfit that looks effortlessly put together. But I think we’ve earned the right to be a little less serious about getting dressed.

Wear the weird shoe. Add one too many necklaces. Tie the scarf somewhere it probably wasn’t intended to go. Buy the thing that makes you smile, even if no one would ever call it an “investment piece.”

Looking expensive is fun. Looking like yourself is better.

It’s the point where summer starts to slow down. The nights get a little cooler, dinner somehow stretches an extra hour, and every weekend suddenly feels a little more precious because you know there aren’t many left. Without even realizing it, everything feels a little more worth noticing.

Somewhere along the way, we decided a reset had to be dramatic. New routines. New goals. A complete reinvention. But I don’t think that’s what August is asking of us.

I think it’s asking us to slow down.

There’s something comforting about realizing you don’t have to wait until January to start feeling like yourself again. Sometimes a reset is as simple as putting your phone down during dinner. Walking instead of taking the subway. Picking up flowers because they’re pretty, not because you’re hosting. Calling the friend you’ve been meaning to see instead of sending another “we need to get together soon” text.

Maybe that’s the gift of August. It’s the last month of summer, but it doesn’t have the pressure of June or the nonstop pace of July. The vacations have mostly happened. The calendars aren’t quite as packed. There’s finally room to enjoy the season instead of trying to squeeze every last drop out of it. So this month, I’m not making a list of things to accomplish…

I'm making a list of moments I don't want to miss.

I want dinners that last a little longer than they should. More mornings without immediately reaching for my phone. More evenings spent outside than on my couch. Buying the good bottle of wine for no reason. Wearing the outfit I’ve been saving.

Maybe none of those things will change my life, but I have a feeling they'll change the way I experience it.

And if that’s not what a reset is supposed to do, I don’t know what is.

The Tomato Martini (because it’s tomato season… duh!!)

• Place 6 cherry tomatoes in a cocktail shaker and muddle.

• Add 2 oz gin (or vodka) and 1 oz blanc or dry vermouth.

• Pour in ½ oz fresh lemon juice and ½ oz pepperoncini brine.

• Fill the shaker with ice and shake until frosty.

There’s something about coming together to celebrate the place you live that is more special than anything else I’ve ever experienced. This was the look that perfectly captured what Knicks fashion has become. Instead of showing up in a jersey, Timothée wore custom Chrome Hearts denim featuring orange-and-blue cross patches throughout the jeans and jacket — a subtle nod to the team while still feeling undeniably cool. Kylie matched the energy in cuffed denim, a white tank, and metallic heels, proving that game-day dressing doesn’t have to sacrifice personal style.

What I loved most about this look is that it felt authentic to both of them. It wasn’t a costume. It wasn’t merch. It was fashion first, Knicks fandom second — and somehow that made it even better.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a witty baby tee.

Beyond the superstition, I loved how effortless her game-day style felt. Rather than leaning into head-to-toe merch, she mixed statement Knicks pieces with her own personal style, making every look feel polished rather than predictable. This vintage-inspired leather Knicks jacket paired with relaxed denim and, of course, the famous orange bag was one of my favorites.

Because if there’s one thing sports fans and fashion girls have in common, it’s refusing to mess with a winning streak.

After weeks of analyzing celebrity row, admiring lucky handbags, and watching New Yorkers turn orange and blue into a personality trait, I started asking myself the obvious question:

Of course, not every look can be a winner.

The best ones are the looks that have everyone texting their group chats, refreshing Vogue’s Instagram comments, and debating best-dressed lists for days afterward. This awards season gave us no shortage of those moments.

From impeccable tailoring to archival references to dresses that quite literally belonged in a museum, these are the looks that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.

Teyana Taylor understands that a red carpet look should tell a story. At the Golden Globes, she channeled Old Hollywood glamour in a sculptural black custom Schiaparelli gown with a dramatic neckline and pixie cut that felt sleek, sultry, and impeccably polished.

For the Oscars, she leaned fully into Hollywood spectacle in custom Chanel. The black-and-white feathered mermaid gown brought movement, drama, and just the right amount of extravagance.

Danielle Brooks brought pure old-school glamour to the Tony Awards in this shimmering Wiederhoeft gown. The liquid-metal sparkle and dramatic off-the-shoulder neckline felt celebratory without being overdone.

And just like that, another awards season comes to a close.

Months of red carpets and custom gowns all culminate with the Tony Awards. While we’ll inevitably spend the next few weeks discussing best-dressed lists and standout moments, what I always come back to is how much fun fashion can be. When a new season rolls around, I always make a Pinterest mood board. Not because I’m planning to buy an entirely new wardrobe, but because it helps me get inspired. I’ll save outfits for work, birthday dinners, vacations, and even running errands. Then I’ll look through my own closet and see how many of those looks I can recreate with pieces I already own. It’s become one of my favorite ways to shop my own wardrobe.

And honestly, I feel proud of the closet I’ve built. Not because it’s overflowing with options, but because it’s full of pieces I can wear season after season.

But I don’t know if I’d necessarily call it a capsule wardrobe — or at least not a traditional one. When most people hear “capsule wardrobe,” they think of a closet filled exclusively with basics: white button-downs, black trousers, and neutral sweaters. And while I love a good basic, I also love a statement piece. The goal isn’t to own only basics.

The goal is to own pieces that actually get worn.

If I can style a bold dress three different ways, wear a colorful handbag multiple summers in a row, or find five occasions to wear the same pair of shoes, those pieces have earned their place in my closet just as much as a white t-shirt has.

That’s when I started thinking about my closet less as a capsule wardrobe and more as a wearable wardrobe.

A closet full of pieces that aren’t just pretty to look at, but pieces that actively participate in your life. The ones you reach for over and over again. The pieces that somehow end up in every vacation photo, every birthday dinner, and every random Tuesday.

And by “posting online,” I mean remembering to take a picture of my outfit before I leave for work, forcing myself to prop my phone up in public for outfit photos, and trying to get over the irrational fear that talking to the camera somehow makes me look insane.

It’s been… humbling.

I’ve always loved fashion and styling, but for the longest time it mostly lived in my own head — screenshots saved to Pinterest boards, outfit formulas mentally archived away, photos sitting untouched in my camera roll. Somewhere along the way though, I started wanting to share it.

Not necessarily because I’m trying to become a full-time influencer, but because personal style feels meant to be seen. Fashion is art. And art feels a little lonely when nobody else gets to experience it with you.

I actually really admire people who fully commit to creating online. Social media can be such a creative space when it’s approached intentionally. But for me, posting has become less about building a brand and more about documenting inspiration, sharing outfits I’m proud of, and letting my creativity exist somewhere outside of my own camera roll.

So lately, I’ve been trying to actually post more. On TikTok, on Instagram, wherever. And honestly? It’s forced me to think a lot about social media as a whole — the good, the weird, the performative, and the surprisingly inspiring parts of it too.

I genuinely think one of the hardest parts of posting online is simply allowing yourself to be perceived.

There’s something deeply vulnerable about putting effort into something creative and then willingly sharing it with other people (me currently as I write this article LOL). Especially online, where everyone is hyperaware of how they come across. Taking my outfit videos in public feels so embarrassing sometimes, and even posting on Instagram can feel weirdly intimate now.

But I also think it’s interesting how quickly people switch up once creativity becomes profitable.

Everyone thinks posting online is cringe until the person starts making money from it. Then suddenly they’re “smart,” “disciplined,” or “building a brand.” The same people who rolled their eyes at content creation suddenly want advice on how to grow a following.

And honestly? I think that mindset stops a lot of people from sharing things they genuinely enjoy.

Because not everything creative needs to become a business to be worthwhile. But at the same time, there’s also nothing wrong with wanting your creativity to open doors for you either.

I’ve started realizing that posting my outfits online isn’t just about posting for the sake of posting. In a weird way, it’s become a creative portfolio.

Fashion and styling are such visual forms of art. If styling is something I genuinely want to explore more seriously someday, then it makes sense to actually put my perspective out into the world instead of keeping it trapped in my phone.

And I think social media has created really interesting opportunities for that. You no longer need one traditional path to share your work or build an audience around your style. Sometimes all it takes is consistently posting what you love and allowing people to connect with your point of view.

One of my favorite things in the world is looking back on old photos and videos from trips with my friends. My friend Alexis has a YouTube channel (go subscribe to her!!), and every time she uploads a vlog from a trip or random weekend, it instantly becomes something we’ll get to revisit forever.

And there’s something really beautiful about that!!

Social media can obviously be exhausting and performative, but I also think it’s become a modern scrapbook in a lot of ways. It lets people document phases of their lives, outfits they loved, people they spent time with, places they went, and versions of themselves they don’t want to forget.

And honestly, fashion deserves to leave the camera roll sometimes.

If I spend twenty minutes putting together an outfit I genuinely love, why shouldn’t I take the photo? Why should creativity only exist privately?

At the end of the day, I think posting online becomes a lot less scary when you stop treating it like a performance and start treating it like documentation — documentation of your creativity, your interests, and maybe even the beginning of something bigger.

Which is exactly what I’m going to try to lean into as I begin my social media journey. Not overthinking every post, not waiting until everything feels “perfect,” just letting myself share things as I’m inspired by them. And honestly, part of what’s made that easier is finding small ways to feel a little more put together when I’m actually filming or taking photos — even if it’s just a quick 7-minute makeup routine or a few go-to pieces that make me feel confident enough to show up on camera.

Suddenly you’re unpacking suitcases instead of boarding planes, and the magic feels over a little too quickly.

I think that’s why post-vacation blues hit so hard in the first place. When you’re traveling, everything feels heightened. Morning coffees feel more intentional, getting dressed feels exciting again, dinners last longer, and even the smallest moments somehow feel cinematic. You’re present in a way that’s harder to be in everyday life.

Then you come home and it’s work, laundry, grocery shopping, and trying to remember what day of the week it is.

But lately, I’ve been wondering if the secret to avoiding the post-trip crash isn’t booking another vacation immediately — it’s learning how to romanticize your life once you get back home.

• ordering yourself a small treat before you get home

At the end of the day, I don’t think the goal is to constantly be chasing the next vacation. As amazing as travel is, eventually we all come home. The laundry still waits for us, the emails still pile up, and real life starts again.

But maybe real life doesn’t have to feel so harsh.

Maybe it’s lighting the candle before answering emails. Maybe it’s the silk pillowcase, the matching pajama set, the dinner reservation on a random Thursday night, or simply giving yourself something to look forward to. Tiny luxuries won’t completely cure the post-vacation blues, but they do make the transition home feel a little softer.

I think romanticizing your life is really just another way of saying: pay attention to it. Slow down enough to notice the good parts, even when you aren’t somewhere glamorous or far away.

Because your life shouldn’t only feel beautiful when you’re on vacation.

Espresso Martini with Tequila

• Reposado Tequila: 1.5 oz

• Coffee Liqueur: 0.75 oz (I prefer Mr. Black)

• Fresh Espresso: 1 oz to 1.5 oz (Must be freshly pulled and still hot/warm before shaking)

• Sweetener: 0.25 oz agave syrup or simple syrup (Optional, depending on your preferred sweetness)

The most exclusive night in fashion. The kind of night where clothes aren’t just worn — they’re engineered, archived, dissected, and remembered. Where a single look can define a career, or at the very least, flood your feed for the next 48 hours.

It’s part spectacle, part strategy. And somewhere in between, a question: if you were invited…

To some, fashion is materialistic — unnecessary, even. But to me, it’s art. Just worn instead of framed. And nowhere is that more obvious than the Met Gala — where the line between fashion and costume disappears entirely. Every look is a form of interpretation, a response to the theme, and a chance to either get it exactly right — or completely miss the mark.

This year’s exhibition, Costume Art, explored the dressed body throughout history, while the dress code, Fashion is Art, left plenty of room for interpretation.

But this year feels different. Beyond the exhibition itself, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is unveiling the new Condé M. Nast Galleries — a new home for the Costume Institute that quite literally puts fashion front and center.

Taking over the former gift shop space, it’s now the first thing you see when you walk into the Great Hall.

Fashion is no longer just part of the conversation, but the main event.

And the Met Gala plays a bigger role in all of this than people realize. In the last ten years alone, it’s raised around $166.5 million for the Costume Institute — funding the very exhibitions it celebrates.

If fashion is art, then the steps are the gallery. Each look becomes a piece — interpreted, exaggerated, and, at times, unforgettable.

Now for the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the Red Carpet.

A nude illusion gown layered in expressive brushstrokes, drawing directly from Garden at Arles by Vincent van Gogh, while subtly nodding to Mugler’s iconic La Chimère gown from the Fall/Winter 1997 collection. The first look I saw — and still my favorite. It’s art translated onto the body — exactly what the night calls for.

Hand-painted by Peter McGough, featuring Eirene, the goddess of peace. The concept is strong, but it walks a fine line — less “wearable masterpiece,” more “gallery piece that wandered onto the carpet.”

Constructed entirely from film strips of Sabrina, the look leans fully into old Hollywood nostalgia. It feels like a natural extension of her recent era — playful, referential, and completely on brand. Love the look, hate the shoes LOL.

A celebration of the body in its most intricate form — beginning with a skin-tone mesh base layered with a diamond-encrusted skeleton, extending all the way to her gloves. Topped with a dramatic feathered opera coat that doubles as a train (and required five people to carry), every detail is deliberate, right down to the fingertips.

A sculptural masterpiece that leans into the idea of fashion as art. The structured bodice paired with the fluid, beaded draping creates a striking contrast — controlled yet effortless, rigid yet soft.

A direct nod to The Creation of Adam, with kinetic, moving hands that steal the show. It’s conceptual, theatrical, and unapologetically strange — in other words, exactly what the Met Gala should be.

The Red Within — 3,000 hours of Swarovski crystals and absolute control. The name alone speaks for itself. Inspired by a piece currently housed at the Met, it’s meticulous to the point of obsession. The way the red dress peeks through the white coat is stunning. High drama, high payoff — Robert Wun doesn’t miss. A very close second of the night for me.

Final thoughts…

If I’m being honest, I was a little bored LOL. This is the Met Gala — why does it feel like no one fully committed? This is the one night where excess is the expectation, and yet so many played it safe.

To be fair, a theme like this can be interpreted in a hundred different ways — but that’s exactly the point. I almost wish we got less red carpet chatter and more clarity. Imagine if everyone just walked up, stated their name, the designer, and the inspiration. Give me context so I can properly judge from my couch, in pajamas, like I deserve.

There’s something thrilling about walking into a room where no one knows who you are. No expectations to live up to, no version of yourself you have to perform. A new job isn’t just a professional shift — it’s a personal reset. The way you introduce yourself. The way you carry yourself. The way you get dressed in the morning. Fashion, in that sense, becomes more than just clothing — it’s a tool. A way to signal who you are before you even say a word, and sometimes, a way to become the person you’re still growing into.

By the time this is posted, I will have just finished my first day at my new job, and I could not be more excited. It really feels like perfect timing. For a while now, I’ve been craving a fresh start. Even before I started this Substack, I felt stuck. Stuck in the same routine I’d been in for what felt like years. I felt like I had nothing to contribute, dramatic I know, but it’s the truth. Starting this Substack has honestly felt like getting a sense of purpose back — a way to create something, instead of just moving through the motions.

Growing up, I always thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be. Then I graduated college, COVID happened, and suddenly I’m 28 wondering how I got here lol. Six months ago, I don’t know if I would’ve been ready for this kind of change, but I knew at the start of this year that I needed to figure something out. And somehow, between starting to write here and this new job opportunity, I feel like things have started to click into place once again.

And what if becoming someone new is just a series of small, daily choices?

What you wear. How you show up. The version of yourself you decide to step into when no one is familiar enough with the old version. I was saying to my therapist the other day, I don’t know how or why, but suddenly I’m starting to feel like myself again. She reiterated — it’s how you show up for yourself in small ways every day that makes the difference.

I’m very into romanticizing the little things in my life, and I can’t wait to do the same with this next chapter. The outfits, the mornings, the commute, the version of me that walks into a room and decides who she is in that moment. It’s these small changes that I feel like have made the biggest difference in my life over the past couple months.

So, now what?

Pretty much since I got the offer, I have been thinking about what I’m going to wear on my first day. Do I want to be the chic New Yorker in all black or the vibrant, fun girl in bold colors? I want to show up looking and feeling like the best possible version of myself.

To me, nothing screams confident, corporate girl like a fabulous blazer. At my last job, I kept at my desk what I called my office blazer. Maybe we had an important meeting that day or maybe it was just cold in the office, but I always had it there as a backup plan. Now I’m not planning on wearing that specific blazer, but I did find a gorgeous Lafayette 148 blazer at a vintage store in Chicago a couple weeks ago that I might just have to pull out of my closet for the occasion. My new dress code is described as stylishly casual, so I think that blazer paired with a great jean and a kitten heel might just do the trick.

Martini of the Week:

Eternal Spring Martini (refreshing and light… just like a fresh start)

• 1 oz Cucumber-infused gin

• 0.5 oz Elderflower liqueur

• 2 oz Martini Bianco vermouth

• 0.25 oz Fresh lemon juice

• 2 Dashes orange bitters

• Fresh basil leaves

• Edible flowers (optional garnish)

  • Gently muddle basil leaves in a mixing glass.

  • Add gin, elderflower liqueur, vermouth, lemon juice, and bitters.

  • Fill with ice and stir until well chilled.

  • Strain into a chilled martini glass.

  • Garnish with a basil sprig or edible flower

It’s finally that time of year where the vacations we planned in the dead of winter start to creep up, and you can start to plan your outfits. On vacation, you can be whoever you want to be. Do you want to be the girl in the flowy linen pants, reading a good book? Or the girl wearing the bright pink sun dress, sipping a Mai Tai? Or do you want to be both??

All of my vacation outfit planning starts the same: I think about where I am going and what I’ll be doing there, and then I head straight to Pinterest.

What kind of person do I want to be on this vacation? What kind of vibe do I want to curate? Last year when I went to Europe, I wanted flowy silhouettes and bright, fun colors. This year, I think I’m going to be leaning into a more neutral base, with funky, bright accessories.

I’m sorry, but how fun is it to be a girl planning your outfits for vacation??

After going to Pinterest for inspiration, I try to look to my own wardrobe and see how I can use what I already own to achieve the vibe I am going for. I have enough clothing in my closet, I’m bound to have something that will work, right?? After that, I start to look for anything I might need to buy to fill the gaps. This way, I avoid having to buy something that isn’t 100% necessary. Even though there is nothing better than buying something new for your trip… but don’t tell my bank account that lol. From there, I take pictures of the full look (even down to the sunglasses) and upload them onto an excel sheet, with a corresponding packing list. By taking all of these steps, it makes packing 10x easier.

I know what you are thinking, and it’s true. I am incredibly Type A when it comes to planning LOL — but sometimes packing for a beach vacation can be stressful!! The idea of being on a beach in a bathing suit after a very long winter is not the most appealing thing lol, but I am not going to let it ruin my vacation!! By spending the time picking out outfits that make me feel really good, it only boosts my confidence.

Some may find all of this silly and unnecessary, but I think the exact opposite — it helps me feel my best on vacation, which in turn makes it very necessary.

Martini of the Week:

Pina Colada Martini

• 2 oz. Vanilla Vodka

• 1 oz. Malibu Rum or Coconut Liqueur

• 1 oz. Pineapple Juice

• Splash of Blue Curacao

  • Chill Martini Glasses

  • Add ice to the cocktail shaker

  • Add all ingredients except Blue Curacao

  • Shake well

  • Use Strainer to pour liquid into a chilled martini glass

  • Pour the splash of Blue Curacao around the rim of the glass so the blue sinks to the bottom.

  • Garnish with an orange twist & enjoy!!

Coachella, or the “Influencer Olympics” as some people call it, has seemingly been all anyone has been talking about recently. Whether people are posting about what they are wearing or what they would be wearing, it’s everywhere.

I haven’t been to a big four-day music festival since I saw Pearl Jam, Dead & Co, and LCD Soundsystem, among many others, at Bonnaroo in 2016. (I’m sorry… but how was that 10 years ago??) I had the absolute best time. I was 18 years old and could not have felt cooler being halfway across the country with 2 of my friends, running around a music festival. Back then, I barely remember even thinking twice about what I was wearing to the festival. To be fair, it was June in Tennessee. The only thing I was wearing was my bathing suit, so I could go in the giant water installation to cool off haha. Rather than the outfits, it was all about the music… and it was amazing.

Don’t get me wrong, the creativity and the talent behind so many of these Coachella looks are incredible. The time and energy alone is honestly so impressive. But also at the same time the whole thing feels just as stressful as it does fun LOL. It seems like there is so much pressure to look perfect that you’re inevitably missing out on one of the most important parts of a music festival… the carefree, liberating energy.

I might not be at Coachella, but I will be at Jazz Fest in New Orleans in a couple weeks, and I could not be more excited. Although this is not a music festival centered around your outfit, I have to bring some sort of drama — practical drama of course.

I’m basically going to be basing all of my outfits around 2 pairs of shoes… my green Hunter rain boots and brown leather + turquoise cowgirl boots — both for practicality and the vibes of course. I want to look cool, casual, and effortless, but also stay comfortable. Even though it’s just starting to get nice in NYC, it’s already 80 degrees and humid in New Orleans, so I need to be smart about what I wear. I’m thinking it will be a bunch of cutoff denim shorts, tank tops, fun sunglasses, and lots and lots of sunscreen.

I cannot wait to be hanging out, listening to great music, and spending time with my family, and I want my outfits for the weekend to only add to that.

As I sit here watching Sex and the City for the millionth time, I can’t help but daydream about NYC in the summer. The energy, the fashion, the late nights — there is just absolutely nothing like it. I have officially had my first note go viral!!! (at least viral for me haha) Is this what famous people feel like??? — I feel like people are going to stop me on the street and ask if I’m the girl with the viral Manolo Substack note!! LOL (don’t worry I know I’m crazy).

Anyway… it’s clear that the girls are loving vintage designer heels for spring/summer, and as I have always said, we have got to bring back the casual heel!! I feel like as I’ve entered my late 20s, I crave dressing up and strutting around the city in my heels. I’m not reaching for my sneakers to go out like I used to. Sometimes I know there’s no other option, but a girl can dream, right? haha

With that being said, I think I have curated a pretty amazing shoe collection for myself — new and vintage. I have spent countless hours scrolling on The Real Real, Vestiaire, Poshmark, etc., and it has definitely worked in my favor. I arguably think buying vintage designer shoes is one of the easier items to source — sizing is pretty straight forward, and, if you know the brand you like, it’s very searchable.

Hannah Montana just might be the reason I fell in love with fashion. As I sit here watching the 20th Anniversary special, I can’t help but reminisce on my 8 year old self watching the premiere. Her closet??? I was in awe. Growing up with Hannah was pure joy — she influenced an entire generation of girls.

You can’t look back on Hannah Montana without acknowledging the fashion. She created a culture. Every girl wanted to be her or, at the very least, dress like her. Hannah was the epitome of whimsy and her wardrobe reflected that. Now, 20 years later, the girls are leaning into it once again — Y2K fashion is so back.

Bold colors and pattern play are just some of the things that make Y2K fashion so joyful. There has to be some study that proves that wearing polka dots, feathers, and sequins skinny scarves forces you to be in a better mood. It makes getting dressed that much more fun. The world can be so dark you might as well bring some light in through your clothes.

An easy way to bring light in through your clothes is through color, and boy, are the girls wearing color once again. Similar to my article from last week, spring is here, but it feels like there it’s more vibrant than ever before. It’s not just a pop of color anymore, it’s color-blocking and mixing and matching to add that joyfulness and whimsical energy to your wardrobe.

I know for me, my outfit can really determine my mood. When I look good, I feel good. (It’s like when people would say you should dress up for a test in school). Leaning into this style is a foolproof way to feel good in your clothes.

There’s a sense of nostalgia around this way of dressing. Growing up with Hannah Montana, we were able to truly just be kids. I so clearly remember making up dances to her songs in my playroom and making my parents watch (really begging them to let my best friend sleepover LOL). There were no phones, no social media, no pressure to look or act a certain way. We were able to just be silly and dare I say… whimsical. I think that’s why so many people are dressing like this again. We are just girls after all!!

Speaking of being girls together… my friend Alexis and I went to a Y2K themed party last week, and I had the best time picking out my outfit. If I were to have purchased something new for the party… here is what I would’ve worn…

If you love bright colors and feathers, wear that. If you love mixing crazy patterns, do it!! If you love wearing all black and having a very sleek look, own it. This idea of bringing back whimsy into your life can look like a lot of different things. For me, it’s finding the joy in the little things and romanticizing my life in every way possible.

Cotton Candy Martini

• 3 oz Pinnacle Cotton Candy vodka

• 2 oz cranberry juice

• 1/2 oz orange juice

• Splash grenadine

• Pink cotton candy — for serving

  • Fill martini glass with cotton candy.

  • In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine vodka, juices, and grenadine.

There is nothing better than that first 70 degree day in the city, meeting your friends after work for an Aperol Spritz outside. But what we wearing now that the weather has finally started to turn?

Spring is my favorite time of year - it’s when the city starts to come alive again. It’s amazing what a little sunshine does for my mood. Walking around Central Park, getting happy hour in the West Village, and exploring a new neighborhood - there’s truly nothing like it. We can finally put our puffer jackets and ear muffs back in storage and take out our skirts and spring jackets.

This is usually around when I start scrolling Pinterest to see what the girls are wearing, and as much as I would love to buy a completely new wardrobe this spring… that is just not realistic for my budget lol. So instead… I look at my closet and think how I can style what I already own to create my own take on the spring trends. This also helps me avoid buying a bunch of random pieces I don’t need. I, of course, will inevitably end up buying a few things to fill in any gaps, but I convince myself it’s more intentional this way to warrant spending the money lol.

After many hours of scrolling, I have concluded that layering is the name of the game. Whether it’s a button down with a sweater draped over your shoulders or a silver cuff layered over a long sleeve blouse… the more pieces the better. (This ties in with my article last week — the accessories are making the outfits this spring).

I’ve seen another version of layering, too… style layering - mixing feminine pieces with more structured, masculine pieces. It’s romantic with a twist. Ballet sneakers, military jackets with skirts, chunky sneakers with sequins mini dresses. It adds an extra layer of interest to the outfit. It’s unexpected and immediately catches your eye. I definitely want to lean into this trend myself this spring. The beauty of this trend is that you really don’t have to buy anything new. It’s about styling your already existing wardrobe in a new way.

A third trend I am so happy to see is here to stay is the whimsical bag. There is nothing better than a fun bag to complete any outfit. It also doesn’t just feel like a bag - it feels like a collectible. I always love to say… I’m not buying this for myself, I’m curating my future daughter’s wardrobe.

This jacket is amazing. The perfect spring transition piece. It would be adorable worn opened or closed.

Mango Ruffled Blouse

I’m obsessed with this blouse from Mango. I imagine wearing this underneath the twill jacket and having the lace peak through the cuffs… chic.

Layering this over the ruffled blouse would be everythinggggg.

Okay I know this is expensive, but I literally had to include it. This is spring in a bag.

There is nothing better than knowing your outfit is missing something and then finding the PERFECT accessory to complete the look. Whether it’s sunglasses, a necklace, or a scarf, the right accessories can truly level up your look.

Look… I get it. You don’t always have the time, energy, or creative brainpower to try and fully accessorize your outfit everyday, but when you do, it can make a world of a difference. Circling back to one of my previous articles, The Bessette Effect (apologies for the corporate lingo lol), I talked about the idea of a Capsule Wardrobe. Similar to that idea, you can also have your capsule accessories - your stack of bracelets or rings you wear every single day. It feels like you. It feels complete.

I think people find it scary sometimes to try and accessorize an outfit to look like the girls on Pinterest, or at least I do. But… it doesn’t have to be. Creating your core accessories you absolutely love can help so much. All of that to say… your core accessories don’t have to be neutral… they could include a maroon and pink polka dot work bag with ruffle straps, like mine does! Thank you, Damson Madder!! I think a lot of the time people automatically assume capsule or core automatically means boring or minimalistic, but if yours means maximalist, fun pieces… I love that for you AND for me. Especially if you have a more neutral wardrobe, the accessories are where you can thrive and have fun. It’s like when my mom would tell me to get a neutral bedding and have fun pillows so you don’t have to always change your entire bedding when you get sick of it.

One way I have been incorporating this idea into my life recently has been through oversized scrunchies. I worked at Anthropologie right out of college and bought this amazing cheetah print oversized scrunchie… very drama. I have been loving wearing it to work with a bun to add a fun pop to my outfit! I have loved my scrunchies forever - I actually won “Most likely to bring back the Scrunchie” in high school. I went to arts school, so we all got our own individual senior superlative… haha. I actually just bought one from H&M last week that I’m obsessed with. I’ll link it down below :)

Martini of the Week:

Lemon Drop Martini

• Ice cold martini glass (very important!!!)

• Prepare the glass

  • Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of the glass and dip the rim into a plate of sugar (the details!!)

• 2 oz Vodka

• 3/4 oz Cointreau

• 1 oz Freshly-Squeezed Lemon Juice

• 3/4 oz Simple Syrup

• Shake vigorously

• Garnish with a lemon twist (the details again!!) & enjoy!!!

As I sat down on my couch to start Harry Styles. One Night In Manchester, I couldn’t help but wonder (see what I did there) how my 14 year old self was feeling getting ready for the One Direction Up All Night tour in Phoenix, AZ. My friends and I each dressed up like one of the boys, and naturally… I was Harry. I have always been and always will be a Harry girl.

Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. feels like a new era. A new era of music, a new era of fashion… and it is a vibe. This album feels like partying in your late 20s in NYC. If I’m going out to dance, I want to be in a hazy club in Brooklyn having just hit my pen in the bathroom and just absolutely vibing. It feels like the older sister of Harry’s House, and I think his styling choices are lending itself to that, as well.

Over the past 16 years, Harry’s style has gone through many different phases. From wide brim hats (lol) and head to toe sequins, Harry has done it all, and we owe so many of these iconic looks to his stylist Harry Lambert. Harry and Harry have been working together since 2014, and it is very apparent. Lambert has been with him through each album and has helped to translate the emotion in his music into his style. The two look like they work seamlessly together - Lambert even made a cameo in the American Girls music video!!

The moment I saw Harry walk onstage at the Grammy’s wearing custom Dior… I felt a shift. It felt grounded. The dark, grey wash denim… the cropped, peplum blazer… still with the touch of femininity through the green slides with little bows on them… I was obsessed. It’s amazing to see how his style has evolved alongside him.

The Love On Tour style was so perfect for that time. It was bright and colorful and freeing. You could feel the joy radiating in the room.

Now, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. feels so authentic to this new era he is in. His outfit for the concert felt so comfortable - high-waisted trousers and a floral button down with a slightly cropped blue crewneck layered on top. He was in it for the energy and the music, and his styling only supported that feeling. After taking some time away from the spotlight, it feels like he is returning in a way that is so authentically himself. His energy is infectious.

I think Harry’s tours have a unique way of bringing people together and getting people excited about what they are wearing. I remember my fyp was flooded with what people were wearing to his Love On Tour shows. It is slowly starting to trickle onto my fyp once again, and I, for one, am LOVING it!!! It is truly peak girlhood. Even tonight, I saw a video someone made of people’s outfits at his Manchester show. He has created such a beautiful community within his fanbase, and I think fashion is the center of it all. There is nothing better than being on the subway after one of his concerts and spotting other groups of friends wearing sequins and boas, debriefing the whole night.

Although I wasn’t at One Night Only in Manchester….. this is what I would’ve worn if I was there!
